I’ve tried. Doesn’t have nearly the same punch as a properly marketed expansion. I hate to point to WoW but they were adding content constantly as well but what draws everyone back time and again? Expansions.
First off, it took WoW almost 3 years to get their first expansion out and they didn’t add any new content like GW2 has all free of charge (if you take advantage of it at the time of release). So perspective and patience might be in order.
Secondly, I fully support the idea and reasons for an expansion. Give it more time and I hope we see a Cantha down the road.
WoW also existed in a vacuum for most of those 3 years. I honestly don’t even think an expansion is necessary, but the CONTENT and the MARKETING is. Usually you throw those two words together and it equals an expansion but as long as you have both in sufficient quantity any form is acceptable.
I totally agree. WoW had no real competition unlike the flooded MMO market today. I am not convinced the current LS method is enough to create the excitement needed to pull in a larger audience (old and new players). Now some of that new audience will surely leave after devouring the new content but many of them may also stay.
Hi Matt!
Fools N Gold [FNG] is a very small tight knit PvX guild (NA) on Tarnished Coast. We focus on an adult casual environment. Most of our socializing is done on our Vent server and since most of the guild works our primary activity is in the evenings. We are always talking on Vent about tv shows, books or something going on in-game. Help, friendship and advice is never too far away.
We currently are working on helping to level our new guild mates, LS2, SW and Catacomb dungeon runs.
I hope you find the right home and happy hunting! If you have any follow up questions please pm/mail me in-game.

As Silvatar pointed out above your best bet is to find a good home (guild). Here you can let guilds know more about you and what you are looking for in a guild:

Good luck and welcome to GW2!

What is this CTRL that you speak of? (Insert sarcasm)
I seriously have it remapped for something else. Learning where the chest spawn locations are, watching other players, using simple sight or more often my mouse cursor I have little issue in finding anything even at great distance. Since I often rely on my mouse cursor for ground targeting and/or selecting targets it is never too far away. Also, my friends and I often target and call out chests when we are grouped.
I concur with the others that “hidden” or “buried” chests should take a little bit of effort to find.

Doing my daily, keeping my LS2 up to date, sometimes a little farming and I always try to hit the more lucrative Meta events like Tequatl and Karka Queen. Besides that I focus on the more social and fun (for me) aspects like assisting new guildies and helping to organize events and so on.

I really enjoyed the fight. Going in solo I knew it wasn’t going to be easy. It was hard to pick out the tells but it was saying the same thing about me;-) This was on my hybrid D/D ele and I did go into the down state that once but was able to get back up. The boss wasn’t so lucky!

I have been successful in growing the guild as I got back from a several month break myself a few months ago but we are still a very small group. We are filled with a few new players that are not dungeon ready yet but if you wanted to add experience to this small growing community we would love to have you.

Hi Shadow,
First off welcome to GW2! Secondly, I want to warn you we are a VOIP focused guild and I know you don’t care for that. But if you wanted to give it another shot we would love to have you with us. I used to not like VOIP as well but after some time I finally broke down and learned to accept it. Now I can’t game w/out it. Every long term gaming friend I have now is due to the bonds created over a voice program and we travel from game to game together. Anyways, here is my “sell”:

Am I missing something here? I know people still play this game at level cap, so what am I missing? Where is the activity and why is it so frustrating to be a new 80?
Yes you are missing something. Even though GW2 can be a pleasurable single player experience it is an MMO. It is meant to be a social experience so you need to make it one. You will have a lot more fun this way.
Content that you find too difficult and frustrating can be fun with a group of like minded gamers. Go the extra mile and have everyone on a VOIP and you might even make a friendship or two that covers several years and several different games. Speaking from experience here.
Other than that the endgame is what you want it to be. It can be a social experience, or one where you pretty up your characters, work on alts and different story paths or get good and excel in WvW or sPvP. For me it is a little of all of those.
Either way I hope you find the “fun” you seek and if not than that’s ok. Not every game is made for everyone.
As the previous posters pointed out you want to stay on top of WvW mapping right away. Just get in the habit of checking the WvW borders from time to time and you shouldn’t have too much of an issue over the long course of world completion.
I focused on completing one map every day or two. If I was tired or wanted to focus on tv (or whatever) I would map one of the primary cities. If you can help guildies, hang with friends and/or participate in map chat with events and so on than mapping can be a pleasurable experience.
Other set than berserker? No. For sure, I will not buy a new armor and retrait myself only for a single new zone. It would be too tedious to reskill/change armor every time I enter or leave the new zone. If it were necessary to do this, I simply would not enter that zone.
If it were possible to do this with a simple mouse click, for example with skill/build/armor templates, this would be a totally different thing and I would do this. In fact, I would like it having different play styles. But changing everything manually on zone change is a no-go. Weapons, armor, accessories, skill points, traits… no.
GW1 allowed us to switch builds on the fly and I do miss it. I use alts specifically built and designed for specific areas. Not all content is built alike. The Labrynth for example really needed me to adjust and learn a new build. Learning more about my class with different builds was a good thing in the long run. It’s also not too hard to swap out a few pieces of equipment, utility or swap a trait or two.
Auto-WP after a set amount of time can be a good thing if players go afk or are showing botting-like tendencies (Dry Top afk-spam healing spring rangers). This can get rid of the trash so-to-speak and allow players to focus helping those that really need it.
Other than that I do not think it is needed. 4-5 players can get a dead player up pretty quickly. More players helping each-other can go a long ways towards success. The issue with SW might be more related to the Zerker meta finally hitting a road block. Maybe it’s time for some players to adjust their builds and playstyles?
Leveling is so easy, fast and there are so many different ways to do it. From crafting, mapping, karma farms, WvW, dungeons, story and EoTM. With boosters, food, guild buffs, tomes and scrolls as well. It is sooooooooo easy to level as it is. As a wealthy veteran I can get a new character to level 80 in a day if I really wanted to.
I also enjoy doubling up on some of my favorite classes because there are so many different builds and weapon configurations. Leveling a new character allows me to practice and learn new build/weapon combos that I may not use on my main(s) as I level.
Speaking as a veteran leveling is still very fast and painless in GW2. After the NPE I decided to level up a 9th alt and I was gaining 20 levels a weekend. Food, guild buffs, boosters (if you have them but not needed) and a fun group of friends to level with makes it a fast and fun experience!
We always take the unbeaten paths so to hit up the mobs that haven’t been touched in a while, do content that is a few levels over our head and never skip a gathering node or event. All this without any crafting, EoTM or tomes.
It’s an MMO. Play with friends and always push yourself by completing content a few levels above you. Soo much xp!
Hiya Knight!
Fools N Gold [FNG] is a NA, casual, adult PvX guild on TC. Our prime activity is in the evenings and we are almost always in our private Vent server socializing and joking even if we are not playing together. We are a small but tight knit group that focuses on fun, helping and just hanging out.
We are currently working on the Living Story over the weekends, meta events and the new map (Silverwastes) during the week. Over the weekends is when we grab a beer, order a pizza and gather for dungeons and WvW mayhem.
Contact me anytime in game via whisper or mail. Good luck and happy hunting!

If you’re a cool cat and we like you I’m sure we can easily be persuaded (I can be bribed with cookies) to start a new lowbie group to help you learn and enjoy this fun game. We have also recently added a couple of new players like you so the more the merrier.

Arah path 4. In the first few months of release Simin, High Priest of Dwayna, was considered one of the toughest challenges in the game. My friends and I spend almost one full night on that path and finally gave up (the sparks would sometimes bug).
The following weekend a friend of mine from another guild asked me to fill in as their group was in hour number 3 and players kept dropping. They needed dps so I brought my zerker Mes and her awesome Timewarp. 2 more hours later (lost a couple more pugs) we defeated Simin! It was so exhilarating that I shouted very loudly at 3am and kittened off my sleeping neighbors:D
The other wow moment would be when I finally, after a full year of trying and hundreds of gold, I finally got a precursor (Dusk) from the Mystic Toilet. I scared the crap out of my roommate with the yelling!
Plenty of smaller moments too with beautiful scenery and other hard fought battles but those two stand out the most.
If they are an AFK ranger with pet and spam their healing spring than I report them as bots and let ANet sort it out.
I am loving it – this is what Orr should have felt like, ie a battle zone.
How it will pan out long term as populations move on, or if we defeat Mordy is a long term concern, but for now I am thoroughly enjoying Silverwastes
As long as the zone continues to be rewarding, then players will always play in it. Just like Orr, the content is old but people farm there all the time. It’s nice to have zones that offer different game play while it is as rewarding as other zones. That way players cycle through different zones if they get bored of one place.
+1
This is how I keep my farming fresh. I just do different rewarding zones like Frostgorge, Orr, Dry Top, South Sun and now Silverwastes.
Soo much goodness in the new map! Thank you ANet on a job well done!
Hiya Trent,

Been playing WvW pretty heavily the previous 5-6 weeks and my experience with WvW players has been very positive. I’ve had maybe a dozen or so whispers over that time-frame and only one was from an obnoxious 14 year old (enemy) who I eventually had to block.
Everything else was very friendly and that’s even counting the several whispers from enemy players wanting duels, congratulating me on a victory or just letting me know they’re reading a newspaper.
That being said there will always be somebody who has anger issues or doesn’t know how to deliver constructive and friendly criticism in all walks of life. I usually see it in dungeons with pugs but you know that’s what the block feature is for!
OP, follow the wise advice from Snowreap and others. If mentored or experienced than being an uplevel in WvW can be a good thing. Play and have fun:D
(edited by Bandit.8279)
If you like small, adult, casual, friendly, joking, cookie eating, PvX, using vent (only when convenient of course) than Fools N Gold would love to have ya. My main is a ranger and blowing things up with RF in WvW with another ranger would be pretty fun;-)
If you like small, casual, adult, using vent, PvX and cookies than Fools N Gold can be a place to hang your hat at night.
As others have wisely pointed out:
- Do not put it off. Start WvW map completion early and check back on it often. I did it the hard way the first time and it can be frustrating. All my other map completions started with WvW and it became much easier and less frustrating.
- Ask for help. Use map chat, friends and guildies to help you get the harder to reach spots. Most WvW players I come across are very helpful and are always itching for a fight. At the end of the day this is an MMO. Treat it like one when you need to.
- Create a mapping build that focuses on mobility, swiftness, invisibility and survivability. This can be just changing a few utilities and weapon sets to creating an entirely new build. This will also come in handy in those pesky Orr zones as well.
- Oh, it never hurts to actually partake in the WvW. Follow your commanders around and let it come naturally. Who knows, you may fall in love with WvW like I eventually did.
Good luck, make friends and stay patient!

I help run a small (very small but active) casual PvX guild on TC. Our population is currently split between west and east coast but we all have weird work schedules so timezones mean little to us;-) Fools N Gold [FNG] was established 2 years ago and even though many of us took breaks from the game we are still here and enjoying the world of Tyria.
We highly encourage our friends to use our vent server when doing group activities. Our focus is also on weekend play as most of us work during the week.
If a small adult laid back PvX community is what you might be interested in then let me know.
Good luck and happy hunting!

Hiya Valk, I help run a small (very small but active) casual PvX guild on TC. Good luck and happy hunting!

My friends and I play on Tarnished Coast and always welcome other fun oriented gamers. We mostly focus on PvE but a few of us also hang out in WvW as well.
We have our own vent server and encourage using it as it is a big plus with connecting and making friends. We actually have 3 members who are living in that frozen tundra you peeps like to call Michigan. Crazy folk indeed!
We all work and only a couple of us might be on during the weekdays but the weekend is when the beer, pizza and laughter is in no short supply. If your looking for a small casual adult guild than I hope we can fill your needs. Good luck:-)
I am happy to announce that our small community has grown. We have some lowbie group play scheduled for the weekend with some dungeon action as well. Our small WvW Havoc team is also growing and learning through it’s successes and hard lumps.
Our modest recruitment quota has not been met yet so the door is still open for beginners and veterans alike who are interested in a small PvX casual/adult environment.
Any questions please feel free to pm me in-game or here in this thread. May the garlic pizza be with you!

WvW Ranger Guide 2.1
Step 1: Equip a longbow
Step 2: Target enemy
Step 3: Press 2 and watch the enemy dodge roll or put up reflects
Step 4: Run for your life before you get smashed over the head
the LB is only good in WvW imo PvE is more close up ( unless it’s a massive boss and you have 50+
Umm…wat? My LB/GS zerker power ranger rips up general PvE content like a 15 year old bully stealing lunch money from 10 year olds. Nothing survives to get close….and if it does there is Point Blank Shot or an up close and personal Maul from the GS to handle the situation.
But for your build I like the SB option as well. Good luck and happy hunting.
One can also make a very strange, but very good support/utility/shout ranger while in small parties. But other than that, you pretty much covered all the build types.
Agreed. I ran a support/spirit ranger for a while. Found it to be pretty fun for general PvE group play.
I also think rangers are not all that selfish when compared to the necro class. Rangers have spirits, pet buffs, war horn #5, healing spring and SoR (along with a couple of other utilities) that can directly aid a party.
I love the epic duel with the first thief. Good stuff!
Bandit.8279 It says that Tarnished Coast is full??? Does this mean I can’t play on that server?
As the above poster pointed out megaservers mean we can still hang out unless we do WvW. It took my friend’s roommate about 2 weeks to finally get into Tarnished Coast. So keep trying and hopefully it’ll all work out. See you in game!
The Norn rock and the larger weapons like the longbow and greatsword look much better on them. They also have a viking feel to them so the axe and war horn feels natural on them too.
The downside is they feel slow so you need a speed buff. Luckily rangers have a signet and war horn for that. The smaller weapons like many of the shortbows also look odd on them.
My friends and I have been gaming together in GW2 for a couple of years now and always welcome other fun oriented gamers. We mostly focus on PvE but a few of us also hang out in WvW as well.

Fools N Gold has been around since beta and our core group has been gaming together for several years now across a few different games. If a small helpful casual adult oriented guild is what you’re looking for then I hope we can fill your needs.
