Me after watching the daredevil POI.

Hahahaha xD

Wow, I thought the staff would be mediocre in damage but I was wrong. It’s probably does the highest damage from any other weaponset. From that 5 k plus (3 hits) whirl damage 7 k Leap not to mention our awesome auto-attacks. Staff is like a combo GOD with the new physical skills. I’m truly impressed.

Yeah the staff looks absolutely amazing! My only problem with it right now is that I wish the skill 2 had evade frames but that’s just me. Skill 3 looks great for survivability and skill 4 is a whole lot better than I thought it would be. Skill 5 is a godsend.

My only problem with it is I can’t play it now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The 4th can’t get here fast enough;-)

Why spec into Dragonhunter?

in Guardian

Posted by: Bandit.8279

Bandit.8279

So a whole spec for traps and a longbow that is not even a great improvement from the usual scepter+offhand. And they don’t even have good sinergy, traps are melee and longbow is ranged.

Funny how I don’t read about “synergy issues” in ranger trap threads. There is a weapon swap for a reason and part of the play to using traps is to ambush, space denial or lure your prey into them and then either stay ranged or weapon swap and go in for the kill.

I do concur with your thoughts on condi taken out. I actually enjoyed playing a condi trapper in the last bwe.

With regards to why to take LB, as others have stated, for soft CC and supposedly better damage over scepter/offhand. We shall see in bwe2 and bwe3 if the LB does shine in these areas.

I felt a straight up zerker DH build was rather lackluster in the first BWE so here’s to hoping the next BWE gives us reason to be optimistic. fingers crossed

Dragonhunter Changes for Next BWE!

in Guardian

Posted by: Bandit.8279

Bandit.8279

Also I hate how Dragon Hunter is no longer condi friendly, it’s just another Zeal clone now. No more bleeds, no more burning, I thought one of the goals of the Dragonhunter was to make condi guards viable? This trait line is loosing its unique flavour.

I concur with this^^

I ran a rampager’s build (would’ve loved to try Sin if I had the gear available) during the last bwe and thought it had some promise but now with these recent changes it doesn’t make much sense to put condi into a DH build:/

The bag expansions ARE account bound not soul bound OP. Only soul bound if you use them ofc. These two packages are a great deal for newer accounts and can be for some older ones. Got several ticket scraps, some new minis from the keys and more boosters.

“This is not account wide, each character must get their own expansion slots.”

Yes, of course I know that when you get the consumable you can pass it around any character you want and use it there.

But the item doesn’t mean anything until it’s used. But, as soon as you use it, only the character you use it on will have the benefits. That’s precisely my point.

I don’t think you understood my point. We are both correct but about different things. My point was that once purchased you could pass it to any character and than like any consumable, once used, it becomes soul bound. The OP made it sound like it was soul bound once purchased which is incorrect.

Bag space is always precious and more = a more fluid and enjoyable playing experience imho.

Dragonhunter Changes for Next BWE!

in Guardian

Posted by: Bandit.8279

Bandit.8279

The complaint is that they are not thematically appropriate for something called a “Dragon Hunter” that fights with a Longbow. Everything about the longbow encourages ranged combat. It’s counter intuitive to have a spell that is essentially melee/PBAoE.

I agree with most of what you listed but I need to comment on this.

We can’t take the name “Dragonhunter” too literal. It’s a theme like you said and one that would match that of a big game hunter. Hunters hunting a Stonehead for ex will need to lay traps and lure the enemy into them. Much like The Predator movie. So focus more on the hunter part rather than the dragon part. Plus, we don’t know what HoT will bring.

Also, I found GS to be a great second weapon and this allowed me to get in close and when the moment felt right to lay down more traps before I backed off and swapped to the LB.

I like the new changes but I share the concern with others that we still can’t ground target behind us like other classes can:/

Bandit.8279

I don’t agree with this at all. If you complete harder content you should get better stuff, end of story.

Absolutely this. People shouldn’t get a ribbon just for showing up. Ribbon’s should always be handed out to those that deservedly won them.

Luckily this is an MMO meaning even those that don’t have good gaming skills or even the free time can eventually get the rewards they seek. Make friends and/or find a good guild that suits you and everything is attainable. I have one of the worst players I have ever seen in my guild and she has some of the coolest skins in the game because we all help each other out.

Difficulty and large time investments need unique rewards.

In my opinion mobs difficulty was good. when i played the story istance for the first time with an elementalist running a build similar to my main character, I even thought they were easy… people should realize that they were fighting against new mobs and probably their characters weren’t running optimal builds. and, well, we are going into the jungle’s deeps to fight an elder dragon, a bit of difficulty even in the open world is well accepted.

Exactly. We were using new unfinished specializations in a new area against strong opponents. Patience must be used to learn the new mob mechanics and our new builds. In time these mobs won’t seem so strong just like those in SW.

Fools N Gold has been together since the very first BWE three years ago and the core of the guild has been gaming together for several years now. We are a small guild and plan to stay that way.

Our focus is on evening dungeon/fractal runs even though we do WvW and late night PvP occasionally. The mornings/early afternoons can be quiet as most of our active members log in after work in the evenings. Because of this we don’t have any real rep requirements other then rep when you do things with us.

Our current schedule is meeting up for a world boss tour at 3:55pm PST starting with Karka Queen and ending with Tequatl. After Tequatl I begin to plan evening group activities mostly focused around dungeons and fractals. There is sometimes a 2nd party doing the same or planning to do their PvP dailies together as well. Sundays, after reset, we do guild missions. Saturday evenings will be our PvE raid nights when raids come out later in the year.

We are a Casual-Adult environment meaning immature kids and elitists are not welcomed. We teach and do not scold players. We do not do speed runs (unless a party member is short on time) meaning my groups tend to have the mentality that all must die! We prefer not to use stacking techniques unless the situation demands it (looking at you high level fractals).

We do make heavy use of our Mumble server as I believe VOIP to be essential in creating real bonds between gamers and in helping to teach and coordinate for the more complicated group activities. It is by no means mandatory but it is encouraged. We do communicate via guild chat as well.

So if your looking for a laid back adult environment for evening activities where a good alcoholic beverage is always welcomed then come give us a shot!

(Didn’t play beta) but if mob difficulty is hard enough to make people QQ. GOOD! Keep it hard, make it harder! This game needs challenging, rewarding content. I love this game to death.

The thing is .. its not rewarding .. its just trash mobs that drop the same trash
than other mobs, they are only harder to kill.

We don’t know what the rewards are yet.

Not to mention I was having heaps of fun taking on hordes of Veteran Spiders on my Reaper. Ripping through stalkers and Veteran Stoneheads on my Assassin Revenant. And that first solo kill from my Reaper on the deadly Veteran Smokescale was absolutely sublime.

No greater reward in a video game then having fun!

Posted by: Bandit.8279

Bandit.8279

Revenant:
Shrio – both dual swords and shiro’s slot skills are fun, but leave the user pretty glassy, and it’s easy to die.

Use Rolling Mists Grandmaster trait along with the fury traits and with mostly Valkyrie gear to get a 20% crit chance you can not only get a nice health pool of almost 24k but can get 100% crit chance as well! If you can get your paws on some Superior Runes of Rage that might sweeten the pot.

Also, your heal (sorta) acts like the rangers Troll Unguent in that you want to trigger it prior to taking damage. Enchanted Daggers along with Impossible Odds can fill the health up pretty quickly.

I am currently really enjoying the Assassin Stance on the Revenant today. Got my teeth kicked in at first (a lot!) but now I can take down groups of foes within seconds:D Just be careful of that sword #3 skill…it can get ya killed quickly sometimes!

I am also enjoying the fact that we are given large amounts of gear to try out different builds. That is pretty cool indeed.

There was one part in the personal story where I entered this cave-like zone (before you walk up the stairs to face the boss), and there was some enemy archer. It 1 or 2 hit me (can’t remember but it was so quick), and I was like WTF. My Revenant was wearing ascended celestial too, so for the enemy to 1 or 2 hit me, I thought was quite OP.

Other than that particular enemy, and despite thinking the little raptors deal quite a lot of damage, I think it’s fine, because I can kill the raptors with my elementalist with ease, and if I have trouble there surviving, I can always use a different character.

Or you could learn more about playing your new class and use hammer #4 or sword #4 to block the ranged attacks along with some timely dodging. Not to mention once you can get dps on those pesky Hunters/Snipers they die pretty easily so always focus on them when you can. NPC’s can take a hit so let them engage first if you want to play it safe.

i find sword 3 to be really underpowered, i think the damage may need to be increased a bit, other than that i find that the class really lacks mobility skills such as leaps and some defensive options would be nice. other than that its a decent class. thats just my opinion though.

Sword #4 is your block and Phase Traversal is your gap closer. The elite is a powerful CC. You can weapon swap too meaning go to hammer for more CC and blocks.

Bandit.8279

Been running a straight up zerker build with strength runes using Reaper/Spite/Blood Magic (sometimes swap Blood Magic for Death Magic) all afternoon in Verdant Brink and here are my 2 cents:

First off, I love the animations and sounds. Spot on!

Reaper’s Shroud is pretty solid as is. Love the #2 as a gap closer (especially on ranged opponents). #3 is perfect for stability or a quick interrupt with fear. #5 is perfect for CC and of course more chill!

The GS skills seem ok. Not going to get a lot of spike damage like other classes but I found opening up with #4 for blinds/cripple then #3 for vuln followed by RS#1 is a great opener and it gets the might stacked up to 25 pretty quick and then back to GS and the awesome Gravedigger for the finish.

The GS by itself is slow but I found by weapon swapping back and forth between my 2nd weapon set (Dagger/Warhorn) and Reaper Shroud I was able to get the best out of what each has to give. And Gravedigger always for the finishing move just because it’s AWESOME.

I did not find the shouts to be optimal for a zerk build. Only the elite was worth carrying and is pretty rock solid as is. The shouts do look like they may have some utility on other builds though.

Overall I am very satisfied with the Reaper from a PvE perspective and look forward to trying it again in the future with different builds and in different gaming modes.

I’m loving the Chronomancer and Reaper. Just can’t get enough of those two so far.

I’m loving the new mobs!

Veteran Stoneheads that force you to dodge/stab/block/use blinds.

Hunters/Snipers that melt like butter but hit like a ton of bricks need to be focused on early with blinds/blocks/reflects but a few hits on them and they go poof.

Veteran Tigers bug sometimes and get “stuck” and they also don’t hit very hard. They seem a little underwhelming.

Veteran Spiders only hurt if you allow them to keep stacking poison on you and that cone of poison misses half the time. They are not too hard to deal with and may need a few tweaks. They remind me of the drakes out in SW…kind’ve worthless.

The Mushroom Soldiers feel just right. Allow them to swarm and hit you and you will die quickly.

The Mushroom Poppers (awesome name btw) have slick animations and sounds. They feel just about right.

The Veteran Beetle we have experienced before in DT and they are perfect as is.

The Veteran Spotted Beetle is new and they have some funny…errr I mean cool animations. Bring some stab/blinds/condi cleanse. They are a challenging opponent (especially with adds) and feel just right.

Stalkers (like assassins) are a good fight and some timely dodging and dps makes quick work of them.

Smokescales are the one mob that I haven’t figured out yet. They seem to kill my zerker builds in a blink of an eye (especially those veterans and if they sneak up on you!) and fighting them alone is rather suicidal. I will continue to experiment on tactics vs the Smokescale but so far it’s the only mob that gets the better of me consistently out in the beta so far.

Final note: Stepping out into a new level 80 area with new yet played specializations is challenging. The more time I spent learning my specializations and the enemy mobs tells/skills the easier the fights got. Happy hunting!

Edit: Just had my first solo Veteran Smokescale kill on my zerker reaper and it felt so good! Lure them out of their mists, blinds/blocks/CC and good damage worked pretty well. Now to refine this and try it on a mob of them:P

Got to play for a few more hours this morning and here are my 2 cents:

The longbow damage can’t beat the Ranger’s and it shouldn’t. So I think it’s in a good place. Big Game Hunter with Spear of Justice spam and True Shot spam can do some good damage.

Initially I was unimpressed with the zerker build damage but once I traited properly, learned some combos and how to bait enemies into my traps I began to enjoy it much more. I really like the Rampager condi build I was running as well. A Guardian naturally puts out soo much fire condi that re-traiting and gearing for a condi spec and things were melting pretty quickly in the jungle.

I like all the longbow skills minus a few tweaks needed. Deflecting Shot felt clunky at first but I was getting better at landing it with practice. Symbol of Energy could use a slightly larger aoe radius. My BIGGEST frustration came from SoE not working if I was looking the wrong way. This needs to be fixed please. I really enjoy True Shot as it reminds me of the GW1 version and Hunter’s Ward is just fine. HW just needs a little forward thought to put it in use properly.

The traps feel ok and I really like their cool animations. The elite Dragon’s Maw is really fun and it has such a good 60 sec cd. The traps do need to be used carefully though as they do go down a bit slow but mastering how to bait enemies and than pin them in your traps makes for a fun experience. It’s nice to have pure damage traps too where as the ranger needs to go condi to get good use from their traps.

It took me a while to catch on as I was initially disappointed in the Dragonhunter but with a Big Game Hunter mentality and practice I was beginning to enjoy it as I began to take down Veteran Stoneheads and Veteran Tigers with ease. I play a sin trapper build on my condi ranger and I can’t see this beating it in damage but it makes up for it in support and survivability.

Skill #3 should be auto target (your selected target). Your not going to be able to see, target, and cast in time to stop a projectile coming from the sides or flanks. Its really hard to do even with the enemy is right in front of you. I’m pretty sure most people will never even bother with it as its just troublesome with no real benefit.

I’d like skill #4 to be auto target as well but its more of a personal preference then it being absolutely terrible, like skill #3. It feels like it should either auto target your enemy and get everything else around as a bonus or you make it stronger and larger and make it the #5 skill. If it was stronger and larger then being a target effect would make sense.

I agree that skill #3 is tricky to land as is. You either have to change settings to fast casting ground targeting skills (which is tricky to use with 100% accuracy) or just hope you can line the shot up fast enough to block the incoming attack. I did find it a must use skill though when those uber Hunters/Snipers are around.

I play a staff ele a lot so I found skill #4 to be just fine. Maybe a larger aoe but I thought everything else on it was just fine.

If you really want an auto-target you can change your ground target settings but you better keep track of where your mouse cursor is! lol

The virtues were no better than the original virtues. Which means the activation ability was never worth the loss of the passive ability. Basically, continue to not activate your virtues until you have to.

The traits were the worst part. They felt weak and uninteresting. This alone killed the spec for me. I don’t think it was worth going into DH just for a longbow to lose better traits elsewhere.

Traiting Big Game Hunter and activating Spear of Justice followed by True Shot is actually a nice little combo. In the heat of the battle when aegis has been lost, out of endurance and you see a big attack coming from a Veteran Stonehead or Hunter activating that Shield of Courage can be a difference maker for you and your allies. It’s a good oh-crap button in a pinch not too mention the best way to deal with the Jungle Tendrils when several of them are spitting poison at you.

Really see the potential in a mace/axe condi build. The mace 2 allows for almost constant fire fields which the mace 3 can blast. The shadow step-like #4 skill is fun and is a good opener with chill. The corruption trait line synergizes well with this type of build with crit procs and increased crit chance. Can’t wait to try this with sin gear and the finished product.

The ability to swap utility groups via F skills adds some fun utility. Cool looking art, sound and design.

Exactly this. Been running with a condi build using a mix of rampager/carrion gear and it’s working rather well. Wish I could test it with sin gear but sadly we don’t get that option.

You might consider it good but one look at what condi builds can do on other classes and this falls far short of it.

Crit chance at 100%, condi dmg at around 2k with sigil and might stacking and the ability to spam torment and might makes it pretty decent. Demonic legendary synergies well with it and I can swap legendary stance to dwarf for more support utilities.

All that on an unfinished profession makes it look promising for a condi build imho.

We brought in a healing guardian (as mush as a celestial build could provide anyways) and that helped a lot. We also used stab and Ironfist elite to buff him. The biggest problem is we would taunt the enemies away from the soldier only to have him run right back into the foes.

So I agree that maybe he needs to be tweaked a little to stay in one place so that we can peel enemies off of him and have it mean something. We did manage to get a couple in safely.

Guild bonuses, food/maintenance oils, boosters galore and bonus xp from straying off the beaten path are just a few easy ways to boost one’s xp gain.

Putting xp and grind in the same sentence is so laughable with GW2. Just play the game and the xp will come. The demo was a very small area with a limited amount of xp gain. XP in gw2 should never be complained about. Just too easy to come by!

I have also purchased several off the tp and got a lucky forge drop. But only those two open world drops.

Even if you dislike pvp the wolf is very easy to grab. There is this thing called map chat, friends and guilds. Use these social instruments to aid you in difficult content.

That being said here’s to hoping for more legendary options in the next xpac.

They’ve told us there would be new legendaries

Yes. New longbow legendaries is what I wanted to say. Thanks for the correction.

Male Legendary Bow?

I totally agree Draaconis. I think you could’ve worded your argument better. A lot better in fact but I too would love to have a masculine legendary longbow option.

Cathulu above makes a good point though that there are other good options out there. You can go to a major bank and see all your options via the wardrobe tab. I think the spider and Tequatl skins are pretty slick as well as a few others.

That being said here’s to hoping for more legendary options in the next xpac.

It’s also about finding the right guild for you. Sure you can play the game on your own but it is an mmo. Making friends and contributing to that community is what seperates an mmo and a single player game.

Their knowledge and understanding can help you and than you can pass that knowledge down to new players entering the guild.

When I was a young pup and my best friend got a new toy given to him by his parents I would ask my mom for it too. She would tell me that if I really wanted it I should work for it.

So I went around my neighborhood and did the odd job until I reached my goal. Then with much glee my mom drove me to the toy store and I purchased the toy I wanted.

I felt like I appreciated what I worked so hard for more than my spoiled friend and I took really good care of the few things I had.

I carry this lesson with me to this day. If you want something than go out and work for it. Nothing is out of reach if you set your mind to it.

Zaklex is on the money. I try to do SW once a day. I roam going where I might be needed and along the way farm nodes and chests. The loot is crazy good. On top of that soloing veterans and taking part in defenses can be very challenging and fun.

I had over 4k crests in my bank the other day and purchased the two ascended Sinister accessories for my necro and spent the rest on loot bags and more keys. The zone has a lot to offer even w/out the final events.

Edit: That was an enjoyable read!

Map Completion & WvW - why?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Indigo, to make mapping WvW more bearable for you here are a few tips:

1. Find a guild, group of friends or advertise in the LFG and map WvW as a group.

2. Start mapping WvW early in your world exploration. Maps rotate and different weeks and differents times of the day net different results. Doing it this way you can map what your server controls and most likely not even see an enemy player.

3. Use mobility, defensive and invisi like builds to make mapping faster. This can also help you escape most fights. Sometimes a friendly wave will allow you safe passage if all else fails. Just don’t expect kindness in return;-)

Ranger sounds like the right fit for you. Go Power Ranger which is a bezerker build using the Longbow and Greatsword.

You can rebind the F keys to something else to allow more control over your pet. In difficult content I keep my pets on passive which gives me more control over them. Other classes have much more demanding F key setups.

The Ranger is not wanted when it comes to the dungeon meta. That being said there are casual lfg’s, more open minded casual guilds or you can always set up your own lfg. I have never had any issues here because I run with a fun laid back crowd.

Also, just because you love ranged combat keep in mind that the greatsword can come in handy. It has great mobilty, some CC and good damage. So mastering it will make you a more well rounded player.

Ranger can also give some support and in group play you should look out for your teammates. Healing Spring is a strong water field, pets can buff allies or help CC and you get Entangle and some good utilities as well. So when you do open world pve you can go selfish and in group play you can be more team oriented without needing to change the core of your build.

Go go Power Ranger!
