Engineers are fine so long as you don’t camp flamethrower. Use your grenades, bombs, mines, riffle 3 & 5 and you will be doing great. Heck when pre stacking might you can use shield offhand for the might and switch to riffle before running in.

Or you dare to step out of the stereotype meta and support your group with green.. rather white numbers and dont care to be uber dps to prove a point.. that you could better prove with other classes. I dare to use a flamer as my main “weapon” in dungeons. Without a doubt the flamer is inferior to bombs or nades dps and condi wise, never gonna argue that point. But it is an aoe weapon and if you trait right and tinker a little arround you got an easy time with it in pve, i use the flamer since i play engi.. and i started out with this class. I get laughed at so many times when i pull out my flamer.. or e-gun in a dungeon, but at the end im the one who laughs inside if im the last one standing and heal\rez my group.. or plain and simple keep em alive while they dps while i apply some conditions with the e-gun, blind em with the flamer, lay down a fire field or spawn healing\regen stuff till the cows come home. While my skills cool down i use flamer 1 and 2 (and flamer 2 can pack a punch if you detonate the fire ball right after it went through the enemie. Sure.. dps wise my build might suck, but what good are dps if you cant do em in the first place.
Here.. thats the build i use for dungeons.. as for “solo non dungeon\fractal” stuff i switch the elixir-r with elixir-b.

Flamethrower doesn’t heal anyone but yourself, and only to the extent that you have lifesteals proccing. If your party dies while you were off being useless I don’t think that’s really anything to brag about. Might as well sit at the entrance of the dungeon RPing with your guild and laughing at anyone who downs.

if you look at my build.. you will notice things like the e-gun(especially skill 5), the healing turret, the elixir-r… and the toolbelt skills that come with it. Now lets play a game of guessing what i do with them. If you guessed i stand in a corner and pick my nose with the barrel of the flamer you are wrong.. sadly. I prever the flamer cause i am right where (most) of the damage to the team happens.. the “front line” (cept its some ranged dps thingy). All 20 seconds the healing turret gets deployed for the sake of the team NOT my own.. i shove that thing out even if i got full hp and blast it to the moon to get the area heal and condi removal for the team. The 10 seconds the e-gun 5 skill needs to cool down (that also gets right on the team or if somebody is ranged and wounded) gets used to (depending on the enemie) slap some conditions on the enemie or switch to the flamer to do some chip damage, blind the enemie or just put down a fire field. If a team mate gets beaten on the floor the elixir-r gets tossed over and also the healing mist gets instantly spammed right away its cooldown is done.. cept its a boss that likes to knock me on my kitten .. then i save that thing for my sake and thats actually the ONLY selfish thing i do.. and also only if neccesary. Yea.. i even if im close to death i run to my team mates before i do a healing galore to also let them benefit from it. Yea.. healing is also a part of teamplay…weird huh?

Assistance: Medic Engi Build

in Engineer

Posted by: Basaltface.2786

Basaltface.2786

From my personal experiences as engineer lover and also running one as my main char i really have to say beeing a “medic” rather then a DPS beast helped my team out in fractals or dungeons many times. For my (personal) choice of skills i run the flamethrower, the e-gun and elixir-r and obviosly the healing turret for its sweet waterfield and combo blast. Well needless to say that the flamer isnt really much of an effective kit compared to grenades or bombs (that i really dont like myself).. but if you spend some points in firearms you can trait the juggernaut trait and also the Fireforged Trigger trait what really raises the effectiveness of the e gun and flamer quite a lot. I also maxed out the alchemy traitline for obvios reasons and traited there the deadly mixture, protection injection and cleaning formula 409 trait.. but i switch back and forth now depending on the situation to the experimental turret trait if a boss or something requires a lot of dodge rolling. The rest of my trait points i threw into inventions and traited protective shield and power shoes.. ya know just in case my team splits up and i gotta run from one side to the other to ensure some party member dont kicks the bucket with the elixir-r toss or rubbing him\her back on the feet. I use a rifle as weapon cause to have a net to keep an enemie in place is pretty nice, same for some awesome bleed stacks and a knockback that also removes anything that might keep myself in place…and hey the rifle jump got its uses and i wont complain about the auto attack and 1000 range on it lol. I do just fine in PVE and can even roam alone in wvw and take down some enemies or take out guard or reactor or something… just takes a bit longer with the lack of dps but that gotta be expected and i personally dont mind at all to take my time and slowly shrink the life meter of the enemies with the e-gun condion galore and the flamer . I prolly will never win any awards or getting into any top whatever lists with the way i do my stuff.. but it works for me, and usually i got somebody with me that does the dps while i take care that he keeps doing em by dropping super elixir with the e-gun, deploying the turret all 20 seconds and blasting it for healing aoe, using the healing mist to keep the regen on and even play the meatshield if needed (what works pretty good with my high thoughness and live points). Im by all means not a pro.. but whatever.. it works out XD

I guess the op just got his kitten handed by an engi and now throws a kitten fit. I mean how much you wanna nerf the engi till you “respect” them? How about we replace the class right away with a tree that does nothing? Or wait.. how about we right away give the engi 10 perma torment stacks? Would that nerf it enough to get your “respect” (that probably nobody cares about anyways)? Or should a-net just put in a script to make em drop dead right away if you are about to loose? Geez.. i SUCK in pvp related stuff specially if i come across a necro.. i guess i gonna go over to the necro forum and post something to nerf em…

a toggle on/off can not be hard to implement.
Show it or not show it… I’m sure any game can handle this much of a visual parameter.

They don’t want to… can’t draw any other conclusion.

How to figure out you’re fighting an engineer dropping bombs: run behind him and focus on his backpack! It’s a foolproof recipe to fight him.

God forbid that engineer throwing stuff from far away, with red cirkles under your feet, would be unrecognisable without a hobo sack for being grenade specced.

And yes: you need that backpack to see it’s a flamethrower! Once you see beyond the sea of fire in your face at all, of course.

Engineer with a melee weapon? Dam, if only i could see his backpack to see if he’s using toolkit or not! I have to know! What if he is using another melee weapon?

Frankly: only Elixir Gun might be less recognisable by it’s shot, give or take a green smoke jet… but in all honesty: why would you care if he’s shooting you with an Elixir gun?

Ey dont diss the e-gun lol

Speaking only for myself here… i hate bombs and grenades. They are stupid, feel stupid to play and are annoying to look at aswell. Before i use them myself i rather just quit playing engi alltogether. The new traits left a sour taste in my mouth aswell. Cause yea.. its hard to belive but not everybody likes to be bag of bombs and grenades that got a hole somewhere and looses one all few feet. I also gave completely up on getting any dps together and turned my engi to a full time medic… that seems to be the only real purpose for me anyways. I do fine in dungeons.. and nobody complains about having a healer that can pretty much heal almost constantly and keep regen on them all the time, aswell remove boons and remote revive and here and there add some conditions on the enemie. I will never, EVER be able to do anything solo related with my engi anymore.. but heh i gave up on beeing a battle beast anyways. Gonna keep ppl alive to kill kitten and then get my piece of the loot. Thats it gonna be for me as engi on gw2. Call me stupid if it makes you feel happy.

I personally drift arround in the “not sure if i like it or not” zone. A shame that the flamer didnt get anything usefull. Some more dps or a permanent flame jet trait would be all i personally need. Yea sure.. shield bubble is nice and all. But how does it act against aoe? Does it only protect itself or me aswell if i stand in it? Turret “buff fields”.. sure nice and all, but are the hitboxes fixed, is the survivability granted to make the turrets actually be helpfull in combat now? Do the turrets now atleast fire at the enemie atleast ONCE before they get instantly smashed like a vase at an houseparty? How about the buffs of the turrets? Do they actually change the outcome of a fight or does sipping some potions and just nuking the healing turret instantly after placement still gives me what i need?
Well.. ill just wait and see how the turrets work with the patch.

I guess the most “simple” fix that would satisfy the mayority would be :

- An Icon for each kit like the attunements of the eles
- A button to hide the kit´s backpack if the player wants it
- The ability to colour the basic packs to atleast go colour wise with the armor
- Different stlyed skins on the gem store and\or lion ticket vendors

and maybe:

- An ability to holster the kit´s weapon

Its just that its already quite some long time, over a year already and people get impatient or feel ignored. Im pretty sure there should be some time to sneak some fixes in or just a “yea.. yea we work on it.. whatever lol” from the devs cause its already half a year since one posted. The “have patience” doesnt fully cut it anymore, specially not for those who dump a lot of gems into apperance to have nice looking engineers. I mean yea.. sure its clearly not issue #1 that needs to be adressed but it IS in the top ten for engineers besides the usual culprits that are beaten to death. Sure.. the devs can only do so much at one time… but it is a sour taste for those who spend a lot of time to forge ascended backpieces, spend a lot of gold and gems for armor skins and colours or just go insane and forge a legendary..or more of them whatever. The kits just never fit colour wise or, design wise or cover up the beautifull backpieces. A small tiny button to turn em off, maybe an option to colour them to fit colour wise to the armor of the engineer and if you wanna go full out some skins to make them dont look this poorly made.

Is there an argument against axing toolbelt skills and replacing them with a selection of four kits?

F1 – Flamethrower
F2 – Elixir Gun
F3 – Bomb Kit
F4 – Grenade Kit

The last trait line would lower the amount of time it takes to switch to another kit, and Tool Kit would replace Flamethrower at the F1 position if you spec so far into that same trait line.

basically…“Eleneer” then. Meh.. i think it wouldnt be good…id rather be able to pick my toolbelt skills independent of the stuff i put into the skill slots and so pick what i need and when i need it.

If you play a bear Ranger, you’ll need to use a bear (duh).
If you play a Staff Necro, you’ll have green stuff everywhere.
If you play a Guardian, you’ll have blue particles and flames.
If you play a Mesmer, you’ll have purple particles and effects.
If you play an Elementalist, you’ll have Fire, Water, Electricity and Earth animations and particles.
If you play a Thief, you’ll have black/grey animations.
If you play a Longbow Warrior, you’ll have fire and smoke animations and particles.
AND IF YOU PLAY A KIT ENGINEER, YOU’LL HAVE KITS. DEAL WITH IT.
Either choose a class/appearance that matches the MANDATORY effects that EACH CLASS has, or don’t whine about it.
With the same logic, we should be able to change almost every cosmetic aspect of our classes. What if I want my Mesmer to have a green color theme? The purple animations would look terrible on her. Oh, I know, I’ll make a forum thread to request the option to change my particles’ colors!

You don’t seem to understand. Green/Blue/Purple particles, Pets and fire/water/.. animations don’t hide your armor and your weapon.

If we spend hundreds of gold to acquire a nice weapon and a nice back piece, we want to show them as much as possible. Don’t you think that’s normal ?

With kits, even legendaries lose their particles effects and their footprint. Do you have this problem with your pet ? I think not…

And to add to this we also spend a lot of time aquiring armors that often cost a lot of transmutation gems and colours to get the way we want. My armor alone including everything from colours, transmutation gems and gem store gems is worth about 120 gold just to clash colour wise with the kits AND clip with my new winged backpiece. I gotta deal with looking kitten? Think again mate.. NOT in a game where visuals are a mayor part of the gameplay…

but then how would engi be different from warrior, guard, mes, ranger, thief, or necro? homogenized gameplay gets stale.

It’s funny, I’m…pretty sure all those classes actually have different weapon and utility skills, as well as traits and class mechanics, from each other. They also each have different niches they fill to a greater or lesser degree.
How are they homogenized? I’m actually curious as to what the answer will be.

Variety for the sake of variety is a mistake; it might be the spice of life, but I’ve overseasoned steak before, and that was not pleasant.
You want to be moderate with your spices, not slap them on just because you can.

Or you can spice it all wrong right away…
That out of the way i wouldnt consider having a proper melee weapon a flaw at all. That way you would save one valuable skill slot in that you would use your tool kit or your bombs for the “sacrifice” of your rifle or pistol and so your default “sorta ranged” weapon and get a melee weapon that can by far excel any kit stat wise…cause kits are exotic rating at best while a weapon can be ascended. I for once ALWAYS find myself on the front lines cause i prever the flamerthrower as main weapon, dont trust bombs and grenades myself. The only times you see me away from the enemie is when i lick my wounds and heal up cause my e-gun and elixir couldnt balance the incoming damage anymore or just heal up my comrades like enjoy to do a lot. With a proper melee weapon like a brute of a hammer i could do MUCH more physical abuse on the front…since i seem to be an aggro magnet anyways for some obscure reason. Needless to say it also would broaden the possible builds and the overall utility of the engineer. Cause not every build is a bomb\grenade build…and whats the harm of having a melee weapon using engineer? Isnt like you could switch your weapons. And if you enjoy your pistols or rifle then just stick to them

I play since about 2 weeks mesmer… my ONLY other char is engineer. Thats the char i started out with, know the best and actually like the best aswell overall design and idea wise. THOUGH engineer compared to mesmer is dps wise, playstyle wise, buff wise etc like day and night. I am usually a pve only player.. but with the edge of the mists update i tried some wvw and had some chances to have 1 vs 1 battles with other players. And i am i complete and utter noob if it comes to that, with my engineer i had most humiliating and mood destroying days in the time i tried WVW with my engineer, yet with the mesmer i had actually a good time and even won 3 of the 5 one on one fights. Dont ask me for any specific build stuff… i dont look through all this things, i skill like i think its right and screw anything else. So yea.. back to the theme. Like i mentioned my first char is an engineer, basically the class that made my buy guild wars. Before i tried anything other then engineer i just thought “hey thats not that bad…well the turrets suck, the flamer is weaker then i think it should be.. but hey if i run it together with the e gun it works quite well”. Now that tried the mesmer (what is also a class meant to support from what i gather) im almost a little bit mad. The only clear weakness of the mesmer i can make out (with my own experience) is that it feels like you play a ming vase with cannons strapped to the sides. The seconds between the heal spell charging are intense as kitten…other then that the mesmer feels VASTLY superior to the engi to me. Much more range, much quicker replaceable “minions”, awesome and easy ways to interrupt the enemie and really cool stun attacks.

Nerfing the engineer even more? In my humble opinion… no.
In fact id encourage to buff kits like the flamethrower and the potions and fix\combine some gadgets to make them halfway on par with what other classes can do.

Disclaimer: Thats the opinion of a guy who does NOT run any “elite builds” (like all this auto attack grenade stuff or bomb kits things that are boring to play), does pvp or fully understands\enjoys wvw at this moment.

Lot customization?…. Yeah?… And? Maybe some people dont enjoy to carry fugly coloured hobosacks on their backs while wearing ascended gear… or using legendaries…or just dont want to colour their whole darn armor brown to atleast sorta dont clash with those things. Id like to see the hissy fit if other classes would regardless of level, experience and equipment need to use kit based skills (that can be clearly count as weapons) with very little to zero visual appeal (and really low damage output even if you skill specially to use specific kits but thats a different theme). Imagine your warrior (if you got one) needs to run arround with a lvl1 sword design ALL the time, or your mesmer with a lvl1 scepter or staff. Doesnt look good? Would you demand more visual appeal? Im sure you would. Those kits NEVER should have looked that ugly in the first place, hell they should had started the class out right away with an option to colour them and an option to hide the backpack. I mean.. you use this things prolly more then anything if you play engineer (doesnt go for everybody obviosly) and so you SEE them more then anything, means they gotta look good in a game where vanity is an important part of the gameplay.

You always could argue “but the ele weapons cant be changed either”. So what? They look like high end equipment that represent their element and look like they can dish out some massive abuse (what they can) and are not mandatory in most builds.

Well.. i recently made my 2nd char, a mesmer and im just stunned at the underperformance of the turrets compared to the phantasms. The speed you can dish em out (not a pro at all but i get 2 “attack phantasms” and a normal one out faster then i could deploy 2 turrets) , the dps they deliver (specially the duellist and the berserker from my current personal experiences) and the nice addon that they are to the very end usefull (shatter em in the face of the enemie)..and smart enough to target the enemie you point them at. They also distract the enemie quite effective while you stand back in peace and throw your ranged stuff… or charge the next load of phantasms to throw at the enemie. I used to think i just suck with turrets on the engi… but thats only partly true as i felt now on my own. I used to dismiss the underperformance of the turrets greatly… but man.. they utterly blow like they are atm…

Of course its not fair to compare one of the engineers many “ways” with the main mechanic of another class…but really, even if the phantasms would be half as good as they are.. the turrets would still utterly blow…

Razer Naga has been perfect for me for GW2. I use all 12 of the thumb buttons in combination with the shift key such that my left hand never has to leave WASD. This allows me to maintain full mobility optional at all times while also having access to all my skills.

I kind of hate to recommend buying additional hardware just to use skills effectively in a game, but I’ve definitely not regretted using a mouse like the Naga. There’s usually an adjustment period where you have to get used to playing with it, during which you might play worse than usual, but after that it can work really well.

All depends on your individual style though. Some people I’ve talked to much prefer clicking skills and push the number keys on the keyboard than using something like the Naga. Mind you, none of them were engineers, so… yeah.

EDIT: Razer keyboards on the other hand… stay away. Very, very, very far away. They will only bring you misery.

what he said… including the keyboards XD

In my opinion buying a 100$ / 15-button mouse for GW2 only is not smart use of your money.

Ever played quake? Not a mmo but pvp, 1/1 or team was very popular. Going up against top Swedish and German players and teams was not something you would win. Ever. These guys played the 100k tourneys round the world. And still it was kitten fun to play against them because you will get better and once in a while you will kill them.
I do not think that winning is the only way to have fun, putting up a good fight is way more important for me.
From all the complaints on this forum I just see one thing, people affraid to die in the game and on top of that you get corpsedanced or something similar.

Loosing a fair game is fair play, thats out of question and this CAN be fun. MY issue are people who get their kitten if they can dominate others in “unfair” (if i may use that word for the moment) ways… such as spawn killers, strategic point campers and zerks that specifically target small groups or single players that got no chance in hell or heaven to take anything…ANYTHING away cept a bruised kitten and probably verbal humiliation or just plain simple class racism that i experience almost everyday due beeing an engineer and liking it..but thats a different theme. You can be as good as you want you CANT stand a chance against tactics like this. Specially if you are not even familiar with the concept of wvw like many people are belive it or not. I am familiar with quake actually.. and i enjoyed it a lot so i can say that its a little bit out of place to compare it to gw2…what not means gw2 isnt fun or stuff. The issue with this comparison is that quake is a shooter and follows shooter rules. I cant just headshot you with my (back in the days) impressive rail gun aim in gw and then use the next bumper to jump the next enemie with the shotgun into the face…but i do get the point and you are certainly not wrong at all. Not gonna blow your mind if i say i utterly suck in pvp related stuff and i gladly avoid it cause it simply clashes way too much with my way to play my engineer and the game in general. Im sure wvw in general can be a lot of fun (maybe not to me personally) but “dirty” tactics that specially aim to humiliate others are not fun…cept you are the one who does it and you get your kitten through that.

I’m far from being a good PvP player, I get killed a lot yet still enjoy myself. People just need to not take their deaths seriously, laugh it off and get back out there.

Its just like The Dragon Ball Arena, Sanctum Sprint, Southsun Survival, Keg Brawl, Snowball Mayhem… all are pvp places outside of WvW and Spvp.

I think this is a great idea from Anet, it might open a few eyes to those that never considered pvp to be fun. If they still don’t like it a couple of weeks isn’t going to ruin the entire game for them.

couple of weeks huh? Yea great idea.. know what? Lets actually put you a couple of weeks into a game mode\place you dont like…as best somewhere where people can grief or zerk the living kitten outta you and you got as best zero experience in what you do, and after the couple of weeks comes the question. Still like it? No? Thought it was fun. Come on its just a game and fun time. Dying is amazing.. specially if you fight organised people who know exactly what, where and when to do it to slowly twist your cheerfull smile to a distorted face of despair and self doubt till you simply quit the game cause you really just dont like this way to play or just the need to rebuild your entire char just to survive.

I know i am not a rare snowflake here when i say that i left a LOT of mmo games that pretty much allowed pvp at any given time, specially when not asked for it. Middle of a quest? Nope buddy.. you gonna get a nice little enema with my sword and i gonna wait here.. you will come back cause that quest is over there and you gotta go either this way.. or the other ways where the rest of us waits.

That out of the way…

The new map for wvw looks amazing and seems to be a lot of fun, wvw guys.. really have fun with it. You needed something new for once, some breath of fresh air and nice new surroundings to play in and enjoy yourself. Hey maybe they even cranked up the loot drops for you guys
