Anet is catering and catering to the casual playerbase. This new change just adds to this belief. Granted I don’t have 10 hours a day to sit and play anymore but honestly they’re at the point of taking a 30 year old able bodied person and walking them across a road.

So I just went through using a level 20 scroll after I tried to log into my level 7 Mesmer. Every level unlocked something really important, like Asura gates (they came really late in the process, like.. level 18?!) Skill points! Vistas? This is terrible. Those were all the things I loved doing as a fresh noob. Being able to do those things right away, to go to different starting zones, to earn weapons skills by using the actual weapons… those are what made me love this game. It really set it apart. It feels more confusing and boring now, and more like you are being punished for being new, than being “rewarded.” The rewards came from being bold enough to explore, not afraid to die learning your weapons… so sad.
So they pretty much strip you naked, give you a dull blade\pistol\whatever, put you into a starter zone, ducktape your free arm to your back, your mouth closed and a fishing pole on your shoulder that shows you your arrow where you better go to and give you a kick? Yea.. good, let me reconsider trying the ranger class out…
It makes the mini map almost useless at some times as well. I’m sure new players are also confused by all of the arrows on their screen.

I don’t know what you guys did with the patch but every time I am in stealth, I can barely see my character. Box pixel is covering my character. Wtf is this?
thats the particles of whatever you are wearing. You see.. particles (the sparkly kitten) are made up of tiny little models that look to you like pixels. And thats a sort of glitch that happens cause beeing in stealth changes your char´s textures.. and so also the ones on your particles.. what reduces them to their actual form… beeing tiny planes

In my opinion to get a legendary it should require a sort of… test if you will. Something like a sort of solo dungeon or a trial that tests your skill to the bare bone. A form of quest where you need to prepare and study your class so that you can play it blind and perfect. No help of anybody else should be allowed. Its only you, the equipment you bring with you, the food and buffs you bring aswell your pure determination to get what you came for.
It should test your abilities to fight and use your skills when they are needed. Mobs that are tailored specially against the weakness of the class you play, same for bosses and environment that got a certain…random element to it so that it is never completely the same for each one that strives for his\her weapon. It shouldnt be able to get exploited with “stacking” or bugging. When you are in.. kitten gets serios.
A form of risk should be involved… maybe something like limited lives\trys to get it right and if you fail you need to wait a week to try it again and you need a “ticket” that costs arround 100 gold or something to even enter to make it even more serios so that if you emerge with your legendary weapon you actually can say “thats right, i did it and i claimed my weapon cause i deserve it”.
Though… it wouldnt be fair for those who invest so much money into the game to get their weapon…there should be a whole new set of legendaries with a selection of visuals to choose from. No precursors, no gifts, no crafting mat sink… no grinding…, no rng, nothing but pure skill.
Maybe there should be a sort of training mode too to get used to what you need to face to get what you want.
Maybe even add sort of “kittening arround” mode to it where you get good loot at the end, so it also would serve as a form of end game content where you can polish your skills and a party mode where the “trial” scales accordingly to the group and the mobs\bosses and environment adjusts to the group´s makeup so that there is not a form of meta you can use to casually wander through it.
Well im just daydreaming.. but this would make legendaries actually legendary rather then a money sink. Thats just my opinion to that issue… nothing more
They maybe should go the TF2 routine, make the base body meshes available for download, let the community create armors\weapons and submit them into a sort of voting system and then add the winners each week\month into the gem store for a time..or directly in game for npcs, punchase or random drops. It saves creating time, people can vote on what they wanna see AND a-net makes money(gem sales) with it.

The collections system would kinda be like a scavenger hunt though, wouldn’kitten (ie., go forth and find and collect a number of items)

Same, it would be such a simple thing to add in. Instead they added a looting system which is going to hurt us significantly when it comes to loot value, seeing as we wear leather and use no valuable weapons.
Hopefully they can at least add a 600-gem “Endless Lipstick Tonic” to the store so we engies can at least make ourselves look pretty before we bend over to take the upcoming patch.

Heavy cannon kit
1 Heavy shell (auto attack): Slightly slower then pistol auto attack, heavy impact damage on par with bomb kit´s auto attack with a range of 1200. Projectile explodes after it reaches its range limit or on impact on target with an aoe like bomb kit auto attack and counts as explosion and gets affected by the explosives traitline in aoe radius and damage increase (if skilled for it). Targeted attack like a normal ranged weapon
2 Supercharge shot (CD:10s) : A half second windup attack that locks you in place (and aborts the attack when you should decide to move) to charge the cannon for a slow, in a straight line moving, very heavy piercing projectile attack that can be detonated like flamer #2 for extra damage and 2 seconds of confuse (think crucible of eternity´s asura mega blaster mob just not homing and slightly faster projectile movement). Targeted attack like a normal ranged weapon, triggered detonation counts as explosion and is a blast finisher
3 Cannon jump (CD:14s) : A backwards jump with 520 range that leaves a 4 second smoke combo field behind, damages the enemie with double the force of the auto attack if the enemie should stand in the aoe radius at the start of the attack and a half second of stun.
4 Ground shot (CD:20 s): An aoe attack emitting directly from the cannon user that leaves a 2 second fire field behind that ticks with mediocre fire damage, 250 range pushback for up to 5 targets and 1 second of confuse (counts as explosion)
5 Curtain shrapnel bombing (CD:25s) : A ground targeted big aoe attack that locks the cannon user in place while used that makes the cannon shoot 10 projectiles randomly into the aoe with high impact damage, each hitting projectile applies 3 stacks of bleed. The attack´s range is 1000 and its duration is 6 seconds.
Toolbelt skill: Concussion munition (CD: 40s): Next projectile attack (rifle, pistol, cannon kit) applys 1,3 seconds of stun and a 250 range knockback
That (or something like this) id love to see to have a kitten ranged kit option that allows you to stay ranged and doesnt give you carpal tunnel syndrome like the grenades.

Know what they should do? Make new ascended armors BUT with class specific designs. Ya know.. less generic and more looking like its meant for one class only, obviosly only design wise and restricted only by weight class like usual. There you could get crazy shoving a “prestige” look together and have much more options to show it off and dont look like (lets face it) everybody else who wears ascended and doesnt transmute it. Rather have this then dungeon armor recipes. Well thats my 2 cents to this

I think the best argument is that weapons have different skins, so should kits.
But I really doubt you’re going to get complete invisibility, for the reasons I stated above.
Nobody asks for that lol. We just dont like the backback skins ruining the visuals. The weapons you get with a kit (cept bombs and grenade kit cause you dont hold a weapon while using them) are a whole different theme and nobody asks about removing those.
The reason that you cannot hide the kits is that they need to be visible to other players – it’s a PvP thing.
Just as your weapon is visible to other players, so that they might be able to anticipate what you are going to do based on what weapon you are wielding, the kits serve the same purpose.
It’s about visibility, which is why it will never change.
I suppose they could change it for PvE only, but one can only guess if they think doing the work is worthwhile for one playmode
That said, a general graphic update wouldn’t be a terrible thing.
So you tell me you need a backpack that you only see from behind proper, (or if you fight an asura) or not at all without zooming in to know what the engineer is using?
Last time i checked the handheld flamethrower with that… obvios flame jet that extends your direction MIGHT be a good indicator, or that to the game unique attacking sound of the elixir cannon that also MIGHT catch your eye with its unique to that kit beige coloured rifle and its slow moving projectiles. It MIGHT be also helpfull to take a look at the wrench the engineer is trying to wack into your face that he holds in his hand, or that suddenly AOE cyrcles apear a second after the engineer bends down right arround his feet, also if suddenly round thingies fly slowly your way and leave aoe behind that MIGHT be grenades. If you fight an engineer in PVP you prolly dont got enough time to check his\her backpack before you drop dead from rather obvios and different kit attacks man. The backpieces of tool and bomb kit even look the same and if you wear a bigger back item (like the slickpack) they glitch together and you cant tell at all whats going on back there. They are a cool idea without a question.. and i can understand why people enjoy them… but not all people do and thats why we sorta kinda.. kitten about it. A checkbox to hide em and if it REALLY matters so much to pvp.. add a thingy like the attument eles got with the icon of the kit and done.
I’m just waiting for AK-47 elite. Charrs aren’t that far behind Kalasznikov.

I must point out once again that there is no connection between back items and the hobosacks.
The hobosacks are a visual aspect of a utility skill. much like the elementalist wrist auras are for elemental attunements.
Back items are actually “existing” items with stats and a constant image.
Equipping a kit (activating the utility skill) overrides the shown back item. BUT once you use another skill, that override is gone, thus your back item and your hobosack clip and glitch through each other, because they are two separate entities. Not even the same type.
Thats why connecting this issue with the back item visibility toggle is not as easy as it would seem, i think.
There is. If you got an engi with a visible backpiece (pick one thats good visible.. like the slickpack or fractal backpiece or whatever) draw a kit. The backpiece is gone then…TILL you use any skill\attack you got.. then you got the glitch galore that we complain over in the engi forum since a long time. Try it out
Adding my voice. We need a toggle box with an off option in the character screen please. It’s the very least they can do at this point for making people wait so long to get this done. Seriously, no one in PVP notices which weapon set an engineer is using by what is on his back.
and even if somebody who cant live without seeing the backpiece on the enemie in PVP can turn on the new feature to “normalise” all enemie player models to preset looks
I like the kit backpacks, I think its one of the things that make the engineers different.
And it looks like I have a bit more pride in the profession than the people who want to compare them to homeless bums.

This one is a classic but well known to art collectors, it goes under the name “double pack” and is commonly seen at low level zones. Newer engineers usually cannot understand its beauty… but can you blame them? You need to look close and regard the fine details, the bolt use of two putrid brown sacks and two reddish brown cloth flaps, but the artist pushed the limits…and added a shovel that glitches along in silence.
Many times too much for the newcomer to the trade.. and also an obstacle…a test to prove if you are worthy to venture deeper into engineer uniqueness and art.

thats just a few examples i googled, i dont own any of these chars (though i wish id own the one with the jetpack XD)… but thats just to make a small example. Want to see more? Just look for engies with backpieces and ask em to draw a kit…then ask em how they feel about it. 90% will go sad. A checkbox would fix that…
They couldnt even be bothered to fix the hobosacks… i mean a topic thats 1062 replies and 81838 views aswell since good 1 and a half year perma front page material (and to my knowledge also not really liked since the beta) in the engi forum that BEGS for a simple fix… a small kittening checkbox to hide it for one of the two classes a-net.. and i quote “could NOT ship the game without” (other is guardian if you wanna know).

Elixir gun kit acid bomb cause it catapults you to safety and leaves a nasty puddle of unblockable aoe behind that does decent damage, got a short cooldown and is a blast finisher. Used in a combo field it gives the team and yourself some boons and damages the enemie while you can retreat for a short moment to heal up or assist a ranged weapon user behind you. I just love this skill.

i flat out hate this idea, i already get mad at anet when they release a peice of armor that is usable by any class, it destroys the distinctness of each professions looks
…as you could tell em apart if they dont attack you (or anything) without putting your cursor on them. Only time you actually can is if they happen to use the only weapon(s) the other two (or one) classes in their weight class cant. If you put a double pistol engineer besides a double pistol thief you dont know what is what without looking for example. Or staff mesmer and staff ele, dagger ele and dagger necro. You can carry a skull staff as ele and a scythe as mesmer if you want or a burning armor as necro or whatever…like you can wear the magitech as ranger or the guardian starter pieces as warrior. The distinct look does not come with the class.. it comes with people making it look that way cause they either want it or not. All you really can tell apart now (without looking at the weapons and maybe a present pet) is the weight class Thats atleast my 2 cents to that.

You would be surprised man. Put an engi and a thief in a temple armor and they totally look the same for example. IMO its your business how your char looks, and that said backpack of the engi class got a over 1000 reply strong backlash topic cause it ruins the visuals for many ppl. Some engi might dig that very popular “celestial” look while the other one likes his burning COF armor..and the 3rd might look like he\she escaped from a steampunk convention while the next looks like a “typical” asura. And like i said before as long as the classes dont attack and dont use weapons other classes in their weight class cant use it happens a lot that they look alike. I also cant even count how many times i ran across a magitech using ranger or an ele wearing the trickster armor or a mesmer using these burning swords. Just a matter of taste, to each its own. I personally prefer to adjust the visuals reflecting the class i play, but that doesnt mean other ppl need or should do the same. Something i hope that will happen someday is ascended armors that visually represent professions though (but craft and wearable by all in the weight class obviosly) and more class specific (designed) armors you might obtain with the LS or char story…or gem store whatever.

technically that “cant tell stuff apart” doesnt fly anymore with the upcoming update…you can set all enemy players to “standart outfits” for each class\race\gender… so yea. Thats my two cents to that
more stuff like the magitech armor…seriosly give the engi class (that you quote: “couldnt ship the game without”) some more armors reflecting the profession… heck all medium classes to be honest

- Weapon\backpiece dyes (GOD PLEASE >_<)
- sub classes
-assignable weapon skills (atleast the last 2-3 skills from a pool of “everybody could do that” skills like npcs tend to do a lot)
-interresting pvp modes\maps (so that i can do that stuff atleast once before getting bored to death after a few minutes)
-pve\wvw\pvp seperated at balancing and automated build switching between these modes like already in pvp. For wvw just have a seperate equipment window that allows to assign either completely new items\runes\traits\skills or re-use what you use for pve.
- even if i dont care for it personally cause i dont like the legendaries good enough to bother to make one… but… precursor crafting so that those who want to can do it cause im starting to feel sorry for those who get punished by just not beeing lucky enough to get the only piece that actually is based on PERFECT rng luck or cant (for obvios reasons…check the prices…jesus christ on a bicycle) affort the darn things.

I’m not saying kits are useless. I’m just saying that there are other options. There are too many people who think the meta builds are all there is. But there are other options. As you can see, not everyone uses kits. Because it’s not necessary in all builds. So just know that there are other options if you want to spend time working on a back piece or legendary.
I 100% agree with you, I’m totally against the kit swap “meta”. Hell the kits I do use other people laugh at me for (FT/EG). People rea really underestimating the power of turrets these days, and gadgets has some cooldown issues but can still be fantastic for eclectic builds.
with the upcoming patch the FT\EG combo is nothing to laugh anymore
Some of these look more “down to earth” and “realistic” aswell “usefull” and fun to work into outfits if its your style. Might not be liked by everybody.. but neither are the backpieces we got already. Just a matter of taste… nothing more or less. And technically they are free.. just gotta craft them so ya cant really complain. Newbies will for sure love to have a form of “prestige” item that shows their level of profession, people who like more “down to earth” outfits that are not burning.. or glowing or whatever will probably find a use for them aswell..and so will everybody who likes em. Im certain the rp crowd will appreciate them..and so will i for a few select ones like that bear backpack.. heck it even got the same green like my ranger´s outfit. Specially the backpacks look a LOT nicer then the guild backpacks…and i appreciate “free” (not gem store) skins.
well i usually get “chubby kitty” (whats partly my fault cause my engi is as small as you can make a charr , as “bulky” as you can make em and wears bulky armor together with the huge slickpack what makes her look almost as wide as tall. It doesnt matter to me. I get a joke

Just have two versions of the outfits. One…well outfit like it is AND one skin pack neatly cut up to pieces, people who like the full look can have their costumes, slap their colours on and be happy, especially for leveling a costume can help make yourself a pretty looking char (cause these outfits ARE amazing and well designed), and people who want only parts of it to mix with their other favourite armor pieces to make something more “unique” can get the skin pack. Issue fixed.. all are happy…or would be. I for example would LOVE to have the bloody prince facepaint and parts of the cook outfit seperate. Same for the town clothes tonics while we are at it… it isnt like i bought them or something.. now i cant even colour them. Add a gem store item for all i care that transmutes town cloth tonics to armor skins or something lol.

Sabotaging an entire (sorta) WVW map of (probably many) unaware players (like i was before i read the topic and the reddit link)? Explains so much to me now, was leveling a new char in the edge recently and something really was off with the enemie colours… as for the op… seriosly you deserve it and i guess it was just a troll..sadly, a real staff member would be better. Sabotaging other players with such dirty tactics is the bottom of the barrel. Atleast i know where i will be next time something fishy like this pops up in eotm… not on the map.
