Potential Rewards for WvW Season 1 Issue

If playing for rewards in WvW is doing it wrong, let’s get rid of rewards. Let’s make winning meaningless! No buffs, no loot, no WxP, no regular xp, no cash, no karma, no ppt. You fight simply for the sake of fighting! Who’s with me!

I just think it’s a bad idea to reward the person who wins the bronze league more than the suckers who come in 6th because they have no chance of winning the gold league.

They let us all know how it would work nearly two months in advance. It gave people plenty of time to make the right choice for them.

So I should just abandon my server, my guild, and all the people I know in the game so I can get better rewards in WvW? If I was rich, I would’ve transferred to JQ when the rate was 800 gems, waited till the league started, then transferred back to my original server.

Season 1 Reward Chest?

Becka Williams.4978

Depends on how your server does. Winners of the various leagues will get a “better” reward. It’s a reason to get out there and fight for your server.

If they offer a major reward for server placement, they will get hoards of people out for season two. If it’s just a skin or finisher, I think season two will flop.

Time is relative. You aren’t being forced to participate in WvW. If you feel you can get better rewards outside of it, then do that.

Otherwise get out there and fight. The only thing the devs have said on reward from Sept. 1:

Community concern is that incentives will be high enough to draw players to transfer up the tiers, killing even more low tier servers, over filling silver tiers with players and so forth for gold. Can you comment on any plans to address community size issues?

I can’t comment at this time as we haven’t finalized anything. In addition, you should look at it this way, if people flee lower league servers to get into the top leagues, it opens the opportunity for people to move to those lower leagues and finish 1st or 2nd, rather than being in the top league and finishing 6th or 7th. The rewards for finishing 2nd in the Bronze League will be markedly better than the rewards for finishing 6th in the Gold league.

I like how he basically destroys the entire concept of leagues in one sentence. Being on SoS, it’s absolutely impossible for us to do any better than fifth place in the gold league. Meanwhile, people who finish first in the silver league, fighting far weaker servers, get better rewards. Thanks, Anet.

It would’ve been better before the ruins, cause then you could’ve done the quaggans in the middle island, but as it is, it’s pointless.

S1 Demolition Expert - How?

in WvW

Posted by: Becka Williams.4978

Becka Williams.4978

Like almost every other wvw achievment, Demolition Expert is bugged. Sometimes you get it with one hit, sometimes you ram it down from 100% to 0% and get nothing.

You get it with 1 hit because the rest of your party did enough damage in total for you to get credit once you had tagged it. You don’t get credit if you ram it down because your character never hit it, the ram did.

…What? That’s wrong in so many ways. I spent the last 10 credits ramming the walls, not in a party, not attacking and getting credit.

Becka Williams.4978

Yes, but that is a fake instance, they are actually just gaming the overflow system. Some open servers are still doing him a couple times a week. We killed him on Dragonbrand last night, and will be doing so again on Friday. But this actually forces people to guest over. The overflow system is just a way to bypass guesting, while removing most of the other issues, like AFKers and BADs.

You have brought up a good point though Becka. TTS is essentially making it an instanced encounter already, so I am unsure why them or Anet would be against making it a properly instanced encounter. Especially you Ursan as a month ago you were posting that Teq should be turned into a Guild Mission, but now according to you it is “Fine as is”.

Possibly becaue a month ago, TTS didn’t exist. Now, it basically IS a guild mission for him. Just pop into the instance, do the event, and hey presto.

The reason why Teq is a failure while Jormag is not, is because Teq used to be easier, then they changed it to make it more “fun”, and it’s not. It’s ignored by the vast majority of people who used to do teq, it’s meant to be open world, but is done as an instance most of the time. Most servers don’t do it. It’s a failure.

I would suggest that when an open world event’s mostly done by one guild, using the overflow system to create private instances for themselves, then that event is a complete failure. Turning an event that most people can do to an event that only 6k people can do isn’t good game design.

Stop blaming the PvE'rs

in WvW

Posted by: Becka Williams.4978

Becka Williams.4978

I do blame the pve’rs. It’s entirely their fault that they ‘heard wvw was a good place to level’ and bring some ress bot fodder toon into the match up, then proceed to ignore the commanders trying to get things done by having an attitude like Verdelet’s- which is a typical selfish pve attitude to have- ‘attack the champ as soon as I get there nevermind others I can see on my map who are still on their way and might not get the kill, as long as I get mine hahahah’.

WvW is about organisation, group builds, proper equipment, and knowing what to do and when – then it is great fun. If you want to roam, then go roam- take a couple of mates with you, and while you’re roaming flip those camps, kill those dollies, etc.

The people who troll the commander for saying stack are usually one of two types- the first to become a res bot, or the one at the back running backwards as soon as the fight starts (who causes others to die, the fight to be lost, but fail to see it that way).

One thing has always puzzled me in wvw- why are people so afraid of pixels? I mean, it’s not like you die when your toon does, why do so many turn tail as soon as they see equal numbers or try and target the front of the enemy’s zerg whilst running backwards?

I’m not afraid of pixels. I’m afraid of having to run all the way back to the zerg, and wasting time. I don’t run all the time, but if the battle’s lost, I try to retreat. I usually don’t make it, but I do try. Also, since I play an ele, I like wasting people time by going to mist form just as they’re about to pound me. So much fun.

Since bloodstone dust cannot be sold, it doesn’t matter how much of it floods into the game. Thus it will never be nerfed.

They added the wallet which solved the problem of all the various currencies taking up bank/bag space, even though those are account bound and cannot be sold. They might come up with a similar fix for dust. I don’t think anyone would mind what they do exactly, as long as they get it out of our inventories/banks.

Even if it wasn’t worth anything on the TP making it tradable would be a big help for me because then I could put it into my storage guild bank instead.

The problem with the wallet is that it’s impossible to get anything out of it for crafting or mystic forge. Some forge recipes used, I think, fractal relics, and they had to be switched out for something else. Besides, I think Anet wants to force us to buy shards to reduce the inventory burden.

Irrelevant. We have to stop thinking this way.

If two servers from 4 – 6 go up against a 1-3 server the 1-3 server is going to win no matter what. Servers 4-6 are going to come in 4th – 6th place no matter what in the final standings in the leagues. It doesn’t matter who gets 2nd and 3rd.

What a 2v1 would allow is a match that is more fun to play. What is the complaint that everyone has? That they get stomped – not in score necessarily but that its not fun to play because the other side so vastly outnumbers them.

Well guess what? If #5 and #6 queue #1’s home BL, they have twice as many people as #1. They can have good fights that way on that BL.

I’m sure the 4-6 servers will enjoy playing for 4-6th place for 7 weeks.

No, see, there’s already a way to make content difficult: play it using white gear. I told someone, who was asking for a dungeon hard mode, to do that. He refused, unless he got a special shiny for doing it. Tell you what, you run around in only white gear for a week, and I’ll actually believe you when you say you want legitimately challenging content, and not just bragging rights.

Well that’s a bizarre thing to bring up. What you are referring to is nowhere close to legitimate challenge, but a self-imposed artificial challenge, also referred to as a handicap. This is actually unrelated to the difficulty of the content itself in that any content can be artificially made more challenging this way regardless of how tough it was to begin with.

I have, in fact, done that, by the way, in a dungeon (AC Story) that had become rote with my guildies in fully-decked out 80s. Not white gear actually, but naked. It was fun, but certainly not at all the kind of experience I’m referring to when thinking of “challenging content.”

So, again, we come down to the fact that people don’t want challenging content for them they want challenging content for other people. That way, when they get their shift-clickable shiny, they can go to lion’s arch, and lord it over the “noobs” that can’t get it.

i think his point is simply ramping up the numbers isnt what makes things a challenge. The Teq fight isnt harder because it needs better gear, or more people, its harder because it needs to be more organized.
Doing gear in whites makes you take more dmg, and do less dmg, but it doesnt really change the actual difficulty, riding a fast bike down a strait road is essentially the same as riding a slow bike down a straight road. He wants a curvy road with hills and obstacles, not a slow bike.

Wait, so better gear doesn’t make the game easier? Is that the point you’re trying to make? Then why does it exist?

It seems to me that the gold league is basically a fight between Jade Quarry, Sanctum of Rall, and Blackgate. The other 3 servers are cannon fodder. My server, Sea of Sorrows, has a good chance of getting into the gold league, and it seems to me that there’s little point of trying if we get in the gold league. We could fight amazingly hard, and come in 6th, or do nothing….and come in 6th. It’s literally impossible for us to win. So it seems to me that it’s just 7 wasted weeks. The gold league should be the top 3 servers, period. Because that’s what it is now.

Nobody likes difficult content, it’s a myth.

There are 2 different sets of players; those that want easy content and those that want exclusive content.

The first set wants the game to be incredibly easy so they can relax, socialize and generally progress with minimal effort.

The second set wants content that is tuned specifically for them so they can beat it and subsequently brag about it to players unable to beat it.

Notice, no where in there did I say either set wants difficult content. When given the option of being handed a $100 bill or being given a days worth of work and being paid $100 for it, no rationale person is going work when they can get the same reward without working.

That’s wrong. In, like, a lot of ways.

First of all, there are way more than 2 different sets of players. WAY more.

Second of all, of course some players want difficult content. Content with some form of legitimate challenge is my favorite in this or any game, and it has nothing to do with “bragging to those who can’t beat it.”

No, see, there’s already a way to make content difficult: play it using white gear. I told someone, who was asking for a dungeon hard mode, to do that. Well, I know it’s not a fully formed idea. I figure that Anet, should they like the idea, has people far more creative than I, and they can figured the nitty gritty details out. I think this would force people into doing more dynamic events, keep precursors hard to get, as my plan requires you to complete 4k events, and that’s just one part. I think this is probably one of the best ways to get people to do dynamic events again.

Tie Dynamic Events to precursor crafting

in Suggestions

Posted by: Becka Williams.4978

Becka Williams.4978

Anet has said in the past that people don’t really do dynamic events. I think the reason for this is that, currently, the DEs don’t really help people along towards their goal, which I think, for most people, is a legendary weapon. So most people skip them. My idea is to make it so that, when you do a dynamic event, you get a token. And you need 250 × 4 tokens, each set of 250 from a different area, to make the gift of resolve (humans) the gift of technology (asurans) the gift of the dream (sylvari) the gift of fire (charr) and the gift of ice (norn). So, to get the gift of resolve, you’d have to do 250 events each in queensdale, kessex hills, gendarran fields, field of ruin and Hirathi hinterlands. And so on. The problem with this is that the asurans and sylvari basically share the same area. So I’d open up either Magus Falls, or the Magumma Wastes, and give that area to the asurans, and then give the sylvari Magumma forest. (ie, Caledon, maelstrom, bloodtide, and sparkfly) The ausrans would get metrica, Brisbane, and whatever areas are opened up. The norn get wayfarers, snowden, lornar’s, dredgehaunt and timberline, and the charr get plains, diessa, blazeridge, iron marches, and fireheart rise. Possibly, we could cut out the starter areas. These aren’t the only mats you might need, but it would give people an incentive to start doing dynamic events in other areas. Eventually, you’d combine 4 of the 5 (depending on the precursor) to get the Gift of Tyria. What do you guys think?
