The best part? We’re stuck with this. Anet’s spent far too much time and money to let it go now. So, we’re just going to have to live with it till they get around to “adjusting” it.

Essentially, large guilds (read: TTS) will be able to start the 3 Mega Bosses (and only those 3 (teq, 3 worm, and karka) off timer). These bosses will spawn 3 times a day, because apparently, people had to it too good before. Oh yes, the best part? TTS apparently doesn’t have the ability to start the world bosses because they don’t accumulate influence, and most guilds don’t have NEARLY enough people online to make it worth their while to spawn teq or the worm.

TTS isn’t a guild. Its a community made up of about 12 guilds and over six-thousand members. All from different servers. The guild structure is essentially used for them to organize, but since the member base is so large, varied and spread out, they don’t actually do guild missions, upgrades or spend influence. Tbh, I would be surprised if the leaders of each respective guild even knew what their guilds home server was.

So I wouldn’t be looking for TTS to start kickstarting the raid events for a good while.

If you really want to know “the best part”, it’s that guilds like TTS and TxS exist purely so everyone can get a fair shot at harder world events with no bias towards server or guild. Because some of them require more coordination than your typical map full of random people can get together on the fly. Now, not only do the problems that necessitated those communities still exist, but the new changes reduce their ability to organize and provide community services in a reliable way.

It could almost be viewed as Anet intentionally trying to sabotage players. We know that’s not the case, but consider…

1. They introduce open world bosses that require nearly full maps, high degrees of coordination and communication, are prone to player griefing, and do not scale effectively with consideration to players mapping the zone, harvesting, or just too-ra-looing around.

2. The playerbase reacts by creating large communities of like-minded players, that span across all servers to come together at designated times and run these events for themselves and for the general playerbase.

3. Anet reacts in a “feature patch” by obliterating those communities methods of organizing and puts in a guild system as a concession that is functionally useless for events that require 150 people because the ambient population of the zone has increased by an average of more than 200%. AND now they are limiting the amount of attempts in any given day.

Tell me that despite all reason, it doesn’t feel like we are just repeatedly set up to fail?

Yes, I know. That was kind of the whole point of the second half of my post. My point was that the sole guild (convenience, I know it’s a ton of guilds) that does teq and worm doesn’t have the ability to spawn it, and the guilds that can won’t because they can’t complete it anyways. Anet knows how often teq and worm are done. They know they’re not done very often. I’m actually sure they’ve looked at the metrics, and saw that teq and worm is done at reset, again for oceanic/sea, and again for Europeans. And, oh look, that’s what the schedule’s set up for. But they forget that’s THE ONLY THREE TIMES IT SPAWNS, except for their guild based starters. But they know that guilds don’t do this, servers do. So what’s the point? Guilds don’t do teq or worm now, apart from tier 1 servers, and TTS. Why would they start now?

On the schedule:

  • It is not written in stone. We will adjust it as necessary.
  • There’s lots of ways to go about this, but the current thinking is that it would be more convenient to plan for specific daily times rather than have a “sliding” rotation. We felt this was particularly necessary for larger events like the Triple Wurm and Tequatl.
  • Although the old system had certain advantages, it had some major disadvantages as well:
    • Although non-scheduled events are more dynamic, you have a low chance of encountering events with long cooldown periods. Although it was originally thought that big events would be happenstance and rare opportunities that players would stumble on and become immersed in, we found that many players enjoy this type of content as a mainstay of their GW2 experience. When they can’t access that content regularly, we have a problem.
    • On the other hand, you may be aware of the external event tracking sites and have been using them play on regularly basis. This is a good approach in concept, but there’s some major pitfalls if you miss an opportunity to play because of a new build or encounter an overflow server.
  • The intent of the schedule is to:
    • consistently provide access to large scale content for players who want to play it
    • deliver that content in such a way that players can plan and organize to prepare for it
    • help ensure that there are always enough participants in the content
    • help ensure that there is always enough server capacity to for all of the participants regardless of overflows, megaservers, etc
  • There are still and will always be a large number of meta-events and bosses that are not on the schedule.

At some point, we would also like to introduce a messaging system in-game so that it’s always clear what world event content you participate in without having to utilize a resource outside of the game. I have no guarantee or ETA of when we might actually see this though.

You literally didn’t read a word we wrote did you? How does changing the bosses to a 6 hour schedule mean that I’m MORE likely to play them?

And since you can’t farm world bosses or nodes anymore, you’ll be making WAY less gold. I hope everyone who liked free armor repairs is happy. The price of EVERYTHING is going to skyrocket.

Yeah, sorry, this just sucks. I farm world bosses. I do multiple instances with my alts every day. Now I’m going to fight them once or twice a day. Instead of once ever hour for some events, it’s now once every 5 hours. And bosses start every 15 minutes. So if you haven’t finished Jormag, you can forget about Maw for another 5 hours. This decision is absolutely awful. I can’t believe you think it’s a good idea. No wonder you didn’t want to tell us anything last night. For my part, world bosses are done, and so is this game, perhaps. What do you expect us to do all day if we can’t farm world bosses? You sure aren’t giving us any new content worth playing.

Community isn’t just guild/friend list. Community is essentially everyone on your server, and that is being messed with.

One of the most exciting aspects of the new system is that it gets you playing with members of your home server more often.

THIS. Why do people assume this will seperate them from their own server? The only way that is going to happen (if the system is implimented correctly) is if you have friends/guilds on otehr server AND you are joining an area with MANY overflows. Which is exactly what would happen with the current system anyway.

I play with people from my server ALL the time NOW? How will this system allow me to play with people from my own server MORE often. Explain that, please.

So, to sum: In some zones where the system doesn’t matter, we’ll get to play with people from our server. In overflow maps, which most servers don’t have now, we won’t get to play with people from our own server. So it seems to me there’s a net loss of playing with people from our own server.

What are you talking about?

First of all, there won’t be any overflow maps anymore. Secondly the replacement for the current map system will take server, guild and friends into consideration, while the old overflows did not, and thus we will get to play with more of our servermates, guildies and friends than before.

Of course there’s overflow. In fact, every map is now an overflow map. My POINT was that, currently, I can play with people from my server in any zone I choose 99% of the time (Only during certain world events, like Karka, do I get into overflow) Most servers didn’t have overflow, just the top 3. Now, with the new map system, it CANNOT guarantee that I will get matched up with my friends, party members, and guild members. It will try, but it cannot guarantee that I will be. So, instead of 99% of the time, it will be somewhat less than that. It has to be, because of the way this system is done. Suppose I was on JQ, and I wanted to dp jormag at reset. I go there, and I get overflow, and get a random collection people, most likely from JQ, because Jormag’s only spawned there. With the new system, I get people from all the servers, because there’s NO main map. How does this mean I get to play with more of the people from “my” server?

I’m talking about the emptier maps that don’t have overflows.

Which most likely still will be empty enough to not split up your server.
So not really an issue.

Why wait two days, post the blogs now? What’s the point of coming here and saying “Oh, your concerns will be addressed soon. We’re not going to post the blogs now. But soon.” What is it with anet and their fear of “spoilers”?

Because it is easier to take feedback and give correct information when releasing less information?

If they had released 3 days worth of blogs right now, people would most likely miss quite a bit of the information, and then whine about missing said information.

I think coming on and saying “yeah, we’ll be addressing your concerns later.” is kind of…not helpful.

Its communication and sharing of excitement. I don’t see anything wrong with this, sometimes we need to talk to more than just the computer.

The megaserver system means you won’t encounter overflow maps anymore.

And how we will make organised raids for Wurms? No overflow means no taxi to same map?

Read the entire article please. Here’s a direct quote, " you can still party with a friend by right-clicking on their name and then select to join them in their version of the map"

So, basically, it’s all overflow all the time. There’s no “servers” you just get overflow. I don’t see how their algorithm works. If a map is full, you go to another map. If a map’s not full, you go to that map. What choice does the algorithm make? If two maps are half full, so you can join your friends automatically on one map, what’s the point of this whole system? I assume anet’s going to tell us that the maps are load balanced so that there’s the same number of people on every instance, more or less (to a certain point. Perhaps each map fills up to a similar low number, like 50, and then starts sending new people that port in, if the algorithm feels that there’s no need for them to be there.) And that you get sent to people from your guild/party/home server (what’s that mean, now?)

TwilightStorm, there is one other thing you should be taking into account. While yes, it’s true, after this patch you will have the ability to put your legendary skins on any like weapons… however, those won’t be legendary. The skin is the only thing that applies. You won’t get the ability to change stats on those weapons. You won’t get the particle effects, the footsteps, the weapon skill effects, and so on. Just the skin. Only you’re originally crafted weapons will be truly “legendary” and rightfully so.

But Anet fed the hype by releasing the blogs they way they have. If they didn’t want people to speculate, why release them over a week and a half, and give us vague titles at the start? I think it’s somewhat fair to say it’s not fair to blame anet for not giving us our wildest dreams, but I think the blame is mostly on anet for letting us run rampant with out expectations. It’s their job to temper our expectations so that we don’t get disappointed when the truth comes out.

Step 4: Player rage at Arena.net for “hyping” things and not delivering on players rampant speculation.

Makes sense.

If anet didn’t want us to speculate, then perhaps they shouldn’t’ve made this a week long daily blog update to get the players hyped up about the posts, giving us only vague titles that hinted at what was to come. Anet has no one to blame but themselves.

If so, they are simply stupid. Have they never considered that running a 15min dungeonpath for 1 gold is more satisfying than doing 15 events for 2 silver each?

To be fair, you get a lot of drops from events. You do get some drops in dungeons, but each event gives you more gold then just the 2 silver you get at the end.

I knew some people would respond this way. You simply can’t help it. I’m cool with that. I was hoping a dev would respond, but hey, you guys keep mocking me, and proving my point.

No one is mocking you. But when you make statements like this:

You don’t hunt you enemies down in war. You neutralize targets that are attacking you, and let people retreat if they’re doing it peacefully.

A statement that is terribly wrong. People are going to challenge you and call you out. You are not doing your cause any favors by trying to play the victim now.

So, WvW is exactly the same as a real world war? You’re seriously making that comparison? I don’t think we have anything else to talk about then.

You are the one who brought up real world warfare, not him.

Can we not use this term in blog posts? I think it gives the wrong impression, especially in regards to WvW, and PvP, like you’re supposed to hunt down your fellow players, and kill them for the loot. I think it’s distasteful. The players are human beings, not anonymous, walking bags of loot. Sure, you have to kill people in WvW, and in PvP, but we shouldn’t call it “hunting.”

But, you are supposed to hunt down your fellow players and kill them for loot. They even add finishers to the gem store to make killing them extravagant.

The downscaling in PvE is toxic for the game

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Becka Williams.4978

Why don’t they just go with the easiest solution: nerf the stats a lot more while downscaling so that taking a level 80 character using all exotic gear into Queensdale has the same level of challenge in killing mobs as going into Cursed Shore. If you can’t one or two shot mobs in Cursed Shore, then why should you be able to do it while downscaling in Queesdale? If the level of challenge is the same, regardless of zone, then maybe the population will spread out a little more.

If they do that, what’s the point of having levels, then?

Celestial after the patch

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Becka Williams.4978

Becka Williams.4978

So I decided to run some numbers after reading the critical damage blog post. I know what the majority of responses will be to this. After the patch, crit damage will be replaced with ferocity, and celestial gear will receive a 6% boost to it’s current stats. Due to rounding, I will post a low and high possible value. This is done using ascended quality.

Slot – original value – new low value – new high value

Helm —-——- 21 – 22 – 23
Shoulder —- 16 – 17 – 18
Chest —-—— 47 – 48 – 49
Glove —-—— 16 – 17 – 18
Pants —-——- 31 – 32 – 33
Boots —-—— 16 – 17 – 18
Amulet —-— 54 – 57 – 58
Ring —-——— 43 – 45 – 46
Ring —-——— 43 – 45 – 46
Earring —-— 38 – 40 – 41
Earring —-— 38 – 40 – 41
Back —-——- 22 – 23 – 24
1hander —- 42 – 44 – 45
2hander —- 83 – 87 – 88

Total with 1 handers = 469 – 491 – 505
Total with 2 handers = 468 – 490 – 503

The blog post says at level 80, it will take 15 ferocity to get 1% crit damage. With this in mind the new crit damage according to my numbers will be somewhere between 33.53% and 33.66%. This is in stark contrast to the old 62%. We are losing about 30% crit damage. However, all of the other stats combined are giving 36% more than before.

You may now commence discussion, comments, rage, and other activities.

My problem with this is I used the gem shop and rl money to make a fully ascended celes set with the intent for VERY high crit damage.

So I now no longer have what i purchased – I have something totally different.

Will Anet be giving people like me either a refund or the ability of a 1 time change on celes to a different stat set?

I think anything less would be insulting.

You won’t get a refund. I do think that a one time stat change for celestial gear might be nice. It was done for magic find gear, so the code’s already in the game

So, for instance, the 1-6th rank servers will be 1-6 of the gold leage, then 7-15 are 1-9 in the silver, and 16-24 is 1-9 of the bronze league, thus leading to the EXACT SAME SITUATION as last time, where the winner of the silver league does better than the 2nd place winner of the gold league.

“Mistforged Hero’s weapons can either be purchased directly for tickets or crafted in the Mystic Forge with one Hero’s Weapon, one Gift of Heroes, four bottles of Elonian Wine, and ten Piles of Crystalline Dust.”
Really guys? If you read closely at the reward prices, you’ll see that you can buy the Gift of Heroes for 200 tickets OR 250 badges of honor. So you only have to spend 100 tickets to get one weapon if you buy it with badges, meaning everyone can get 2 weapons.

It’s possible it costs 200 tickets AND 250 badges. We won’t know till the vendor comes out.

Guess the feature thread!

If anet switches to Chinese style dye identification, prepare for an atomic bomb of complaining on the forums.

I really hope this include a massive nerf to certain champs (if not all) like the Krait Witch or Horace. Those are extremely hard to kill even with a lvl 80 in full ascended gear.
Not to mention the Blood Witch or similar champs impossible to kill without either a big group or a small party of extremely good players.

First of all, every champ in the open world is soloable. Second, you’ll be able to retrait instantly and for free to get ready for a specific fight, so it should be no worries. You could even just facetank everything, since almost no enemies can heal themselves.

Solo the champ risen knight in malchor’s leap. Then try to pretend anyone can do that, if a miracle occurs, and you beat him.

Wait so… Players WERE going to be technically weaker overall so ANet tweaks the monsters to make everything balanced again (or atleast the same as before) and some people still see this as making the WHOLE game easier when it’s just restoring the current balance we have in difficulty that was offset by the change? =/

It restores the balance for characters playing on their natural level zones.
For downscaled level 80 characters, however, everything would become easier (and IMHO they’re already a lot more powerful than they should).

If downscaled players aren’t stronger than players of the right level for the zone, what’s the point of leveling?

Why is the feature pack coming during WvW season 2? Wouldn’t that disrupt the tournament as people figure out a: how the new trait system works, and b: how to get the new trait for the build they want. Wouldn’t it be better to delay WvW season 2 to sometime in may, now?
