List of zones I’ve found that aren’t megaserved: Lornar’s, frostgorge, queensdale, ascalon, metrica, Caledon, cursed shore, Kessex hills, gendaran, bloodtide, sparkfly. I don’t think that’s an exhaustive list, but it means that most maps have been megaserved. Some role out. Also, the waypoint system has come to every map, even those that haven’t been megaserved. Look at ascalon, and you’ll see every waypoint contest. Port in, and most of them won’t be.

Because if they didn’t people would claim that they lied if not every single map in the game got added to the MegaServers at once.

How do you know it works flawlessly?

I have never claimed that it does.
But you seems to be demanding that they do nothing at all to change their plans if things actually work as they should.

We have known since they announced MegaServers that they would be adding more and more maps until all maps were added. They said nothing about the speed of it nor did they specifically state which maps they would start with.

No, my point was that they said one thing, and then did another. I care what they do, but I just want a straight answer, rather than one that suggests one thing, and gets my hopes up, and then to find out later that they’re doing something else, that they didn’t say. I have no idea how having megaserver working for less than 12 hours in the PVP lobby means that it’s working well enough that they can open it up to 1/3 of all the maps.

I like how Anet said that it would be coming to cities, then to low population maps, then just heart of the mists, then it would be slower than they had announced, then within 12 hours, it’s progressing nicely, and they’ve turned it on in 4 of the 5 major cities, and 1/3 of the total maps. Can we ever get a straight answer?

Yes how dare they make progress?
They should of course stay in one zone for several weeks even if it works flawlessly!

Nice so it’s better than the previous system was.

I agree, but there is a down-side. As you couldn’t use a stone for level 80 gear it did allow me to change the appearance of characters I’m leveling up at will, now I probably won’t change anything until I am 80 and have all my gear.

Price worth paying though, in my opinion.

I bet their metrics showed that most people didn’t bother transmutating low level gear. I think I did it once, myself. I’m sure some people did, but I think most of us never used most of the stones we got.

And now shadow’s bugged on SoS. Portals can’t be damaged. Thanks for making 13 portals that can’t be damaged, so the event fails. This is SO much more fun than before.

yes, the bug was intended to remove your fun. If you don´t realize that a patch of that magnitude touching game core mechanics cannot be implemented flawlessly on the first try… oh well, sorry, I forgot where I am. Yes, they want to ruin your fun.

Oh, I see. I can’t possibly expect anet to actually put out a bug free patch. Well, given their track record, I guess you got me there.

You don’t need to split it. You’ll unlock both skins tomorrow: the skin that you currently have, and the last skin the weapon you "skinned’ had. Ie: if you had, say, a Lyss with it’s base skin, and transmuted that onto an acended weapon with it’s base skin, you would unlock Lyss, and the ascended pistol’s skin. If you transmuted a base lyss onto an ascended pistol that had previously been transmuted with, say, Brandt’s skin, you would get lyss’ and brandt’s skin, but not the ascended pistol’s skin (unless you had another ascended pistol, of course)

So I’ve only read 1 page of this. And admittedly skipped through a bit of the megaserver stuff…so forgive me if this was mentioned, but couldn’t this be solved if there were separate chat channels for your home server? would be like map chat but only seen by people on your specific server.

I believe it is inevitable that the whole “server” concept will disappear. There will be no “select a world” at account startup, eventually. It will just randomly allocate one but it won’t matter because it won’t have any effect in the game.

The trick is how will they get this to make sense WvW-wise?

They won’t. WvW as it is now is on it’s deathbed. It’s just a matter of time. In a year, once megaserver has rolled out, how will anyone be able to tell what server they’re on? For instance, a low population server like Kaenig is probably going to end up seeing mostly people from other servers. How can they maintain a server identity?

Wouldn’t it be fun for gold sellers to be able to target the entire server at once. There’s isn’t anything I’d like more. And a constant stream of useless chatter from everyone else on the server. Won’t that be simply amazing?

I think the stance Anet has taken in terms of discussing Megaservers at this point is “Let’s wait until you’ve actually tried it, and THEN talk about how we can fix it.” is it the best stance to take? probably not. Is it unreasonable? Don’t think so. It’s one more day. I wanna see with my own eyes how it plays out before I make any more suggestions.

Anet’s stance is “We’re going to do this, and you’re going to like it, and if not, who cares, we’re going to do it anyways.”

Before anyone asks, WXP is not being merged by level, but by xp. Remember, the first 5 levels are only 1k xp each. So your total will be slightly less than the sum of your current levels. So, 20 + 40 + 60 won’t be 120, but something like 117, or so.

The toxic seedling events are not a faceroll, even for a fully geared 80. They spawn in several low level zones. Very few people seem to do them.

gee, where are all the he-mans that are BEGGING for hard content? Why aren’t they doing the toxic offshoots? Is it because they don’t want content that’s hard for them, just hard for other people so they can brag that they beat it? YES! I think it is.

I’ve been thinking about the new plan for a “gradual” roll out.

We are now planning on releasing the system starting with the PvP lobby and low population maps, and incrementally moving onto the maps with high populations. With this approach, the behavior on level 1 to 15 maps won’t change until we’ve seen the positive confirmation from the community as well as from our metrics that MegaServer is working as expected on lower population maps.

Now, correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t that how the Megaserver is supposed to work when it’s ENTIRELY implemented? Lower population zones are merged, while medium to high are left pretty much alone. Right? Any overflow, when it first forms, will naturally be a low population map as well.

Are they deciding beforehand which zones are “low population” and which ones are not? Or are they going to have the system deciding as the population levels shift throughout the day? If it’s the second, then wouldn’t that mean it’s pretty much fully live from day one?

No. Megaservers will eventually come to all maps. It’s is unstoppable. They’ve spent far too much time and money on the concept to stop now.

Probably, most people won’t even see the MegaServer effects, unless they go looking for it (in rarely visited mid- to mid/high-level maps).

The megaserver is unstoppable. It will come to all maps, it’s just a matter of time. However, if you want to save money, just have your girlfriend delete her character and reap on anvil rock.

Well, a ‘matter of time’ is not Tuesday, which is what you advised the OP.

I was being slightly flippant. it’s not like they’ve said what maps are included. It’s possible it’s every map EXCEPT the starter areas and the cities.

Servers are not being merged. You will still have a home world.

They basically are. Claims to the contrary are just words to deflect from the fact that all servers are being merged together.

Do instabilities really matter when you only see 1 of them most of the time? I think limiting them to a certain level was a mistake. They should apply randomly, and change every day (so people can’t reroll for a different instability).

Yeah, but if you have a Twilight already, you’ll get the skin on the 15th. then you get Sunrise, and soulbound it, and unlock the skin. Then make Eternity, sell it, and you get the Sunrise and Twilight skin for free.

Frankly, this world boss fiasco just shows that anet’s doing a massive server merge, and there is now only one server, with multiple overflows. They tell us that they’re going to try to keep up with our guild members, friends, party members, people from the same server, but eventually, those concepts will erode, and it will just be one server.

Also, a post in the API forum (soon to be depreciated, cause who needs stuff like apis when Anet can just schedule stuff for us) proves that the megaserver concept, and the fiasco that is world boss timers is a done deal. It cannot be stopped, and will not be stopped. It will come to all maps, no matter what we say or do.

I always love how people refuse to a: go to zones that are level appropriate, and/or b: complain about how easy low level zones are when they’re wearing full ascended zerker gear. Then they come here and say “MAKE IT HARDER!” and don’t give a dang about the new players starting out, and hit the brick wall of content that’s far too difficult for them, and then they quit. If you want hard content, take off all your gear, and go fight. You can make content harder for yourself, instead of just begging anet to make all content harder for everyone.

(If this is a concern, ask for ANet to modify the event, rather than pretend that it NEEDS 150 perfectly coordinated people. The map doesn’t belong to anyone, raid guild, or event group. I frankly doubt they playtested it with such an absurd requirement.)

If the event is made easier, it effectively negates the entire reason for the guild’s existence. TTS and other guilds were organized specifically for these very difficult encounters. Without them, these communities would be destroyed.

TTS killed wurm last night with 5 seconds to spare. If even 5 people out of the 150 map cap were not in teamspeak doing exactly what they were told, it would have failed. Nearly everyone there was already familiar with the fight – if there were even 5 randoms not from TTS who had never done a serious attempt before, it would have failed. The encounter was designed to be this difficult purposefully – go back and read the dev comments on it at release if you don’t believe me.

Beating the encounter as is feels like a huge accomplishment because it is so difficult. Taking that difficulty away would mean that there’s no need for TTS anymore. The stated goals of this update include bringing communities together. Making wurm easier would destroy the TTS community.

You do understand the the wurm is not TTS’s personal toy, right?

I think what he’s saying is that, UNTILL a zone is in the megaserver system, it will not be affected by the schedule. As for zones, I think he means stuff like timberline, and fireheart rise. Stuff no one goes to.

How many cross server guilds are there, anyways? Most guilds want maximum influence, and so they don’t tend to recruit from other servers. This seems like it doesn’t make sense.

The best part? We’re stuck with this. Anet’s spent far too much time and money to let it go now. So, we’re just going to have to live with it till they get around to “adjusting” it.

Not true. I can just leave. I did it when Star Trek Online started time gating content. Sucked those first couple of weeks, but I did indeed “adjust.”

If the goal was to streamline server load, then I guess it will have been a success.

Yeah, might be time to give up on MMOs entirely. You just can’t enjoy them, they gotta be tinkered with, usually for the worse.

I also think this means the CDIs are kind of worthless. They never asked us about world bosses, or megaservers, or anything. They just dumped this on us. Why didn’t Anet ask us about this in the CDIs, instead of useless crap like what features from ETOM to bring into WvW?
