In Metrica, a chaos magic leak the size of a raisin compared to Zhaitans magic caused an explosion and constant teleporting of random things from across the world. Abbadons magic threatened to destroy at least Elona when he died, and he has equal magic with an elder dragon at the least. Zhaitan is literally a giant magic container. When we killed him, why the hell didn’t insane crap happen from all the magic released?

My theory is that all dragons and drakes are powerful elementals or imps. Some drakes are attuned to elements as well. (River- Air, Ice – Water, Salamander- Fire), so it would really depend on what kind of magic they devour that makes them attuned to a certain element.

Beetle.2476

Correct me if I’m wrong; but according to the lore now that both swords have been obtained, Queen Jenna (Provided Rytlock let’s her borrow his sword… I don’t see that he wouldn’t) is now in a position to undo Adelbern’s curse and free the souls of the Ascalonians and stop the daily slaughter of innocent Charr.

…the fact that she hasn’t seems like a pretty hostile action.

You know… if a nation claiming to be your ally had something set up that killed you citizens on a daily basis, and had the power to shut down that something, but refused to – you’d probably stop considering them your allies in relatively short order

It needs to be someone descended from Adelbern, not just someone of royalty.

Basically a build that lets me tank and do condition damage with fire as well as actual damage from me. To compensate for lack of Beastmastery, I use devourers since they evade the attacks sent at them and get me a stack of might from my elite. My greatsword and longbow help me deal heavy damage, as both are powered up by traits. I get my regen from the food and the signet, as well as constantly using healing spring.

It would be hilarous if the asura think Rata Sum is on the ruins of a long dead race, when it is the ruins of older surface asura.

But what actually drove them down? They had a friendly existance with humans as far as we can tell. They arent a race from the previous dragon awakening. Maybe some sort of Asuran nations existed then, and they went to war, destroying almost everything they made. Why else would they need defense golems to kill anything foreign? The survivors had fled underground, and because of that they will do anything they can to avoid war now, even if they dont have records of why.

Dwarves in guild wars 2

Beetle.2476

So you want everything from Prophecies to be undone?

The Stone Summit, those who had enslaved the dredge, had lost the war they caused. They were nearly annihilated and the remnants exiled to the Far Shiverpeaks where then their last religious leader, Duncan the Black, was killed off (along with even more of their forces). After which, what remained made peace with Deldrimor – a full out surrender.

Even if they make another appearance, you can bet your granny’s kitten that they won’t be going back to how they were in Prophecies. If you want to see that, it’s best to just buy GW1.

And of course, you’re presuming that they’ll even survive in large enough numbers. The civil war did a huge toll on the race, and then there’s the fact that they’ve been fighting Primordus and his minions for 200-250 years (all dwarves underwent the rite to turn to stone within 50 years, starting from 1078 AE) and they had a hard time against the Great Destroyer. Not only that, but their mentality as of turning to stone is pretty much just going leeroy jenkins on the forces – charging head first and fighting til the end.

So what your saying is Killroy Stonekin didn’t change at all mentally?

Dragons are simply uber drakes.

in Lore

Beetle.2476

drakes in Guild Wars 1 were also referred to as “A kind of dragon.”

This is mechanical only. It has absolutely no (confirmed) lore value. Just like how jotun, ettin, and yeti were all called ogres in GW1 – but they are all, very much, 1) not related and 2) not ogres.

Well I would say GW1 concept art…. but that is also not confirmed lore. But a drake in Middle Sweden is a type of dragon. And compare the image of said dragon to drake concept art.

Attachments:

Dragons are simply uber drakes.

Beetle.2476

A couple things.

1. The more magic they eat the more powerful they are, no? And the longer they live the more they eat. And also, judging by the magical beings lifespans in the games more magic = longer life, So if we work with an idea that all dragons absorb magic, some just do a much more efficient job then others, we could assume that all Elder Dragons simply absorb magic and use that as their own.

2. To see that drake are sort of dragons, look at the original concept art for them in Guild Wars 1, and the actual wiki entry that states they are a type of dragon.

3. Never played factions, my bad for getting the Jade Wind stuff messed up.

4. All the dragons in the skies of Arah, yet we never get an explanation on how some dragon champions take dragon-like shapes while others keep old shapes or alter themselves only slightly. If there were dragons in Tyria and Elona before elder dragons reached full potential, that could explain why there are so many, by corrupting all other dragons on the continent. Cantha is a bit too far out for them to bother flying too when they got all that life in Tyria to corrupt already.

Dragons are simply uber drakes.

in Lore

Posted by: Beetle.2476

Beetle.2476

In guild wars 1, dragons were… popular in Cantha, and drakes in Guild Wars 1 were also referred to as “A kind of dragon.” What if the Elder Dragon’s are simply VEERRRYY old dragons or drakes who were corrupted by the sheer amount of magic they consumed. And since,(Im assuming based on lore I read, not actual GW1) the saltspray dragons were the only ones who reacted to the magic from the Jade Wind by being “corrupted”, maybe they simply took in the godly magic released and became corrupted, or rather, much weaker elder dragon.

(Cut off, continuing from where I left off.)

And the reason strong drakes or “dragons” only exist on Cantha while Elder Dragons live on Tyria is because the elder dragons first gathered enough magic on Tyria they began corrupting the weaker dragons like Glint, making them sleep or hide or wherever the unfreed champions went when the dragons slept.

Henge of Denravi and Maguuma Stade was the furthest south the druids went. We were in the further southern areas in GW1, in Eye of the North, with no influence of druids. Nor were there east of the Ullen River where Wychmire Swamp now lies. The Henge was the furthest east the druids really went, more or less
That “calling south” may have been a druidic meeting at Maguuma Stade – we know in GW1 that they can call each other (Bloodstone Fen mission), but most were seen north, which is now wastes, so by your argument they’d be witheredhearts or some such.

Though the Thaumanova Reactor problem calling the druids, who are custodians of nature and thus would work to clean up such problems, does make sense.

But if you’re trying to argue that the druids turned into treants because of Mordremoth, or they’re somehow tied to Mordremoth in some other way in the form of being minions, you cannot pick a more anti-minion group other than sylvari (which the “theory” that sylvari are dragon minions itself is absurd with dozens of counter arguments).

I think he meant druids are being called to PROTECT the jungle from Modremoth.

I was paraphrasing Konig, and how do we know they stopped? They could still be using destroyer power, and I think they are. The ones who undergo the ritual also seem to act similar to those who become Icebrood, becoming constantly agitated, and become obsessed with chaos and destruction. At least the centaurs and Inquest are capable of forming treaties with other lands or using some peaceful approaches to power, IE Lionguard and Arcane Council. And the Nightmare doesn’t want power, they just do chaos to “free sylvari from the dream.” The only 2 who use brute force alone(without being pushed into an alliance) are the Flame Legion and the Sons of Svanir. I don’t think what happened with the alliance was caused by Primordius, but he did get a ton of new people becoming minions, so why wouldn’t he use this to his advantage?

This, along with the fact that the flame legion now worship destroyers instead of titans, makes me think that the Flame Legion are openly working for Primordius, and the living story was his first strike with his new army.

Why ceasefire?

in Lore

Posted by: Beetle.2476

Beetle.2476

1. Never heard of the brand expanding anywhere in the game.

2. Invade Lormar’s Pass and threaten to destroy the HQ

3. They did. Just not with humans. They were not at war with asura, nor was that ever an issue. Sylvari were simply looked down on, and were never going to make war with a clearly superior army. Norn were friendly with them.

4. I meant when the ceasefire was called for.

5. Iron+Ash=Winning. Blood really is just like the Vigil, its nice for recruits and was good seperate, but not entirely needed when combined.

1. There’s comments of the Brand – and the Branded – expanding past the current points in both Iron Marches and Fields of Ruin, iirc. It’s all in dialogue boxes – nothing spoken. I am pretty sure one case is a heart NPC who, of course, doesn’t mention it after completing the heart like 95% other heart NPCs.

2. Gotta get through norn; the mountains aren’t suitable for tanks or most siege weaponry so the charr are down on their best firepower; they’d be kitten off 4 other major races on the way, as well as at least three of the continent’s strongest powers (Priory, Whispers, and Vigil); let’s not forget the other forces along the way (dredge, Sons of Svanir, and jotun); oh, and the Priory has ancient and powerful magic at their disposal for defense. Also, the charr have enough issues that they couldn’t start yet another war. Hell, this is the entire kittening reason why they’re making peace with humans – 5 enemies are too many for them, do you really think they’d make a sixth enemy just for the mere hypothetical chance of removing one enemy? No, they’d do what they’re already doing and finding out a way to remove the ghosts on their own.

3. The norn and charr were initially hostile to each other. They became buddies over seeing each others’ mutual strengths and prowess in battle. Why can’t the same happen with humans? The charr only hate humans because they took their land (Ascalon). Now that Ascalon is theirs again, they don’t have reason to hate humans except generations of hatred not yet dissipated.

Besides, that doesn’t change the fact that humans are still a strong power in Tyria, and again, the charr are looking for allies with strong powers to combat the Elder Dragons and their other many problems. The humans are the easiest of their problems to compromise with.

4. Like I said. When the ceasefire was called in, Ebonhawke has been stronger for five years than they have been in decades if not centuries. Yet they held out when they were weaker. With them being stronger, they’d last longer. They weren’t on the brink of defeat like you seem to think.

5. … No, not really. They’re not like the Vigil at all, to be honest. Yes, both the Vigil and Blood are “straightforward militant fighters” – but the Vigil are also charity, and working to unite with others. Blood hold no charity, they don’t aid others except when commanded by superiors – and said superiors only act in the Blood’s interests.

But I fail to see what that has to do with the fact that the legions aren’t as united as you first claimed.

Read my last post for most of these.

The ash and iron are pretty much solid. Blood is the only unstable nation in the group, and all they have is numbers and brute strengh.

@OP They certainly don’t have booths- The Grove is the only place they have an open presence.

That’s probably due to the fact that once one sylvari joins the Order, the Pale Tree knows and all Sylvari being born from that point forward will know. (I’m surprised anyone trusts a sylvari with secrets…)

Why ceasefire?

Beetle.2476

If worse comes to worst, the charr invade norn, though I doubt it, since they were allowed to pass through shiver peaks in the past, and its not really a nation, since all they do is claim hunting grounds. Simply avoid the homesteads and its wildland. And the other orders were constantly bickering and sometimes hated each other, so there’s that.

Why ceasefire?

in Lore

Posted by: Beetle.2476

Beetle.2476

1) The brand’s still expanding.

2) I don’t think the legions could “force” the Priory to do anything.

3) The charr are wanting cooperation with the world powers too.

4) Ebonhawke was actually reinforced the most in the past five years for the first time in a lont time. Even with Kryta being pushed, Ebonhawke still had plenty of supplies coming in. It stood so long that the charr literally stopped caring about taking it. For generations, the charr treated Ebonhawke not as a threat to overtake, but as target practice.

5) While the legions are united, the unification is still tenious at best, and that unification comes with an agreement in views of Smodur and Malice (Iron and Ash Legion Imperators) – and among those shared views is becoming allies with the humans to take down the threat of all Elder Dragons – not just the Dragonbrand (that’s just the closest threat, but they realize that all EDs are a big threat that the charr cannot tackle alone, with having 5 enemies surrounding them on all sides (enemies being: ghosts, Flame, Branded, ogres, and humans)). The Blood Legion’s Imperator is considered a “wild card” and is only in agreement with the other two just so he’s not facing 3 Legions alone (Iron and Ash combined, and Flame on the side).

It’s very likely they’ll go through with it til the end – at least for Iron and Ash Legions. Blood Legion is, as said, considered a wild card and it’s unknown what Bangar’s wanting to do. Drax has theorized that he may be behind the Renegade faction as well (which wouldn’t surprise me, given the large numbers of primarily fighters and lack of engineers and whatnot among the Renegades).

Charr had superior technology, numbers, muscle power, and focus. The legions were more united than ever(besides flame legion, but who cares about them?) and Kryta was slowly being overrun by centaurs. Ebonhawke was going to fall any day. Yes, branded began to attack and ghosts were still there, but Rytlock found Ruriks sword and could have forced the Priory to simply help find the heir to the throne, and the brand pretty much stayed put, so it was more of a travel inconvenience. So why did they accept the ceasefire, and how likely is it they will abide by it for much longer?

However, going back to the main topic, could the gods powers have existed before humans were brought? Melandru was known by charr beforehand supposedly, so maybe they work in a sort of cycle, New gods replacing every few thousand years like Kormir did, while Melandru managed to survive and remain a God. The charr could remember her, and assume the others are gods as well. I did say silent, not disappeared Kong.

My Theory on the Gods

Beetle.2476

Yup, we like to see things as black and white (Mursaat bad, Seers good) but instead there are just many shades of grey.

I can’t blame folks, since Anet has a habit of doing that to their groups.

Separatists? Yeah, they hate charr, so much they can’t stand peace. But each and every one of them also just so happens to be a family-killing back-stabbing racist kitten who’d be fine stomping on babies to kill some charr. The only exceptions are those two or three who didn’t realize how evil their co-workers were and have “seen the light” and went AWOL.

Take above paragraph, replace Separatists with any enemy faction/race, and put in their own reasons. But they’re all “family-killing back-stabbing racist kitten who’d be fine stomping on babies to kill their enemies” – bandit, krait, Flame Legion, Renegades, Branded, centaur. You name it.

On a completely different note from what you are talking about. I find this the most disappointing part of GW2 honestly. ArenaNet, through GW1, created a world filled with shades of grey. The Charr who were the most feral evil beasts, became a living group of individuals that weren’t all agreed on the path their race was taking. Winds of Change was one of the absolute best forms of shades of grey that I have seen playing out in the Guild Wars universe overall. Members leaving the evil group, having a ministry with good morals turning their power towards evil. Having evil groups fighting other evil groups and having to draw the lines of morality, it was some of ArenaNet’s best writing to date in my mind.

Off topic, but there is one centaur who fought against Ugloth and was exiled to live with the humans. She claims most others were exiled as well when they even considered the war to be going nowhere. Ettins have one area where they are allied, grawl are varied completely, hylek are the same as grawl only more advanced, bandits say they did this only to feed families in a heart where you are disguised as one, and Nightmare is a “disease” according to Caithe, where Faolin literally poisoned her with nightmare in Edge of Destiny. So there are many grey areas in this.

I was pretty tired when I made this thread, so let me rephrase this. We all know gods can be surpassed and overthrown, as this has already happened twice in human history. They fill the same role as the other god, yet they are completely different people. They seem to have the same sort of physical deformities as the previous ones like the tentacles on Kormir in Divinities Reach. These people may have existed beforehand, as different beings. Thruln’s legends would then correspond with the human legends, as they could have favored giants in a past life, but then brought humans to Tyria in different forms. Melandru was most likely the same being previously, due to the charr myths. She “made” Tyria the way it is today.

My Theory on the Gods

Posted by: Beetle.2476

Beetle.2476

I think the gods have gone silent because of the Elder Dragon’s stirring, as well as having been to Tyria before they brought humans. Before someone says: DAT WAS 55 YEARS BEFORE!!! Let me just say I said STIRRING. As in Primordius beginning to hunger. The God’s COULD know this from magic similar to the mystic telescope, which shows the elder Dragon will soon rise. Gods stopped communicating to prevent the elder dragons from approaching humans, as they leave plenty of magic, as seen by Zhaitans corruption of statues. As for them being on Tyria before humans, the game hints at that in several places. First, the Jotun storyteller. He claims that the 6 God’s favored the Jotun and Norn before the humans arrived in Tyria, as well as hinting that the gods were on Tyria after the seers gathered all races magic into the Bloodstone, but well before humans. Not only that, but he also claims the gods did not care for humans much first, implying either the gods did not bring them, or they were brought to simply replace destroyed species after the elder dragons returned to sleep. Secondly, Glint, whom claimed to be created by the elder dragons, predates the Bloodstone. Is it possible she was simply a branded version of something the gods created beforehand?
