I had already last year a hard time bring myself to do the achievements even with loot, but now i think i will totally ignore it. Did 2 bosses and was already annoyed to hell.

I’m only happy that i haven’t sold all my T6 mats

5/ cultural armor can have an npc that trades your previous race armor off you and gives you same tire , same class armor

That would be easy to exploit now with the wardrobem so that you just have to buy Cultural Armor for one race, and then chance race and have the next one for free, change race again .. until you have all.

Armor? Not really. Weapon on the other hand offers a flat 5% increase to direct damage, which makes it valuable to everyone except condi damage builds.

However as a newbie you are still fine with exotics, and ascended weapon is more a goal for the future when you don’t know what else to do with your gold and have enough mats

If you won't give us mounts...

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Beldin.5498

Beldin.5498

FYI. the game was made without mounts in mind, and it’s sooooooooooooooooooo much better for it. Mounts ruin MMO’s.

mounts add immersion, it’s the MMO’s that are simply not made to be immerse enough to be worth having a mount.
GW2 is completely immersion free so even if we had mounts, the only thing it does is add immersion in a game that is dead empty.

It is not – and I find mounts DETRACT from immersion. In Rift, I found it annoying when I was doing a quest that players ran right by me to drag mobs to me so that I would die and they could get to the boss I was trying to fight. THAT is detraction!!!

Also, the game is not dead empty – where have you been playing on the Mars servers? Your last statement totally invalidates your argument about mounts. If the game is so dead empty, why are there other threads that say this game has TOO many players at events? It can’t be both….

tell me, what is immersive in this game, just tell me one single thing about this whole game that even has 1% of immersion.

I can list several:
1. NPCs will address the player, and ask them for help when something urgent is happening. NPCs talk with each other, and frequently acknowledge when the player passes by. Merchants hawk wares.

however, the horrible voice acting distracts from that, ruining the immersion.

2. Everyone is on the same page in an as everyone else, and the world revolves around interaction and events. When centaurs are attacking, centaurs are attacking. When you drive them back, you drive them back and take over the area. There are a few renown hearts that break from this, but events generally don’t

and are so generic that it’s more the boredom that makes you see immersion rather then the immersion that might be present.

3. Shifts in the status quo are announced by cyclic events. Unfortunately, respawning kinda breaks with this on the smaller scale.

kinda my point, but ok.

4. You can talk with and engage in conversation with a lot of people.

and you only get text that makes eyes glare of boredom, reading text breaks immersion, that’s why bioware games like mass effect and star wars TOR is so immersive.

5. Personal story works well as a single-player campaign, up until you find yourself guarding a gutted ruin as though it’s a thriving metropolis and hope for the world.

i feel more like i am riding a roller coaster, a bland non interesting roller coaster.

… there are more, but I’m bad at phrasing them. As it is, the dynamic events make GW2 the most rewarding and immersive MMO I’ve ever played in.

pff, keep trying, i’m sure blizzard is really enjoying what you find “immersive”.

But having mounts will of course fix all these problems you have with the game right ?

Horrible voice acting ? No problem .. mounts make it sooo much better .. yeah ..

And Blizzard ? Common .. horrible graphics distract from all immersion .. keep trying.

yay, yet another player that doesn’t even think before posting….it’s really full of blind ppl here isn’t it….. -_-

So, if you don’t have any arguments anymore you just start with insults ?
That makes your “arguments” of course even better

Raids.

Some people enjoy challenging PvE content and the loot that comes with that. Shocker, I know. Seems like in GW2 the only acceptable way to get better gear is to undertake a massive, expensive grind for ascended and legendaries.

Don’t like instanced content? Then don’t do it, but don’t covet the drops because you can always grind.

Why don’t those people then play some of those games out there that fill their needs, but must instead try to change one of the few that are different to be just like all the other games ?
A lot of people simply have chosen GW2 because they just don’t wanted the same old EQ-style stuff again and again.

Because those other games have issues. GW2 is the only MMO where I love the art style, combat system, lore, and pvp. However in order to raid, you are suggesting I go play something like WoW instead; a game which I find abhorrent in every single way. Wow’s combat system is archaic and clunky, the questing is abysmal, the art is ancient, the lore is (or rather has become) stupid and convoluted, it’s got a sub fee and thus chock full of arbitrary limitations designed to get you to play and pay longer (took me over 200 hours to get make a fresh death knight and get it leveled and geared to actually be able to raid with my friends guild during Throne of Thunder), there’s tons of “waiting to have fun” and I generally just dislike the player community there.

People who want raids don’t just want raids. They want a game they enjoy in it’s entirety to include raids. GW2 is a game I enjoy from top to bottom, and I would enjoy it even more if it had raids.

What about EQ2 if you really want hard raids .. or RIFT that is not sooo old ?

I would maybe still play EQ2 ot RIFT if they didn’t had raids, but at some point
i just had enough of beeing always a second class person because i don’t like raids.

Btw.: i’m not against raids directly, but more against the elitist behaviour of some hardcore raiders in other games and their opinion that only they have the right to get better stuff.

Strawman, ahoy!

No-one has said anything about it being better to gate things behind a cash-shop.

Raids as content wouldn’t be too bad, I don’t think. As long as they left behind gear requirements and such.

After all, raids are simply dungeons with more people.

After all Raids give way better items than normal dungeons in every raid-centric MMO i have played so far.

And better don’t ask there why you can’t have better stuff if you don’t raid .. because you don’t need it .. you don’t deserve it since you don’t work so hard ..

Else the problem with Celestial is, that you need to buy receipes for each item from that TP and some are quite expensive. However they may come back with the patch tomorrow, but we don’t know that really at the moment.

Hybrid classes exist in the Trinity, they can often perform multiple roles, they are just less effective than a class that focus on a single attribute.

Thats why i loved Shadowknight for a long time in EQ2, a tank that could do nice damage ,in AoE fights at least, and had quite some self-healing abilities.

In the end i always preferred hybrid characters in trinity based games.

I cannot help but wonder if this is really “bad news”. They basically say GW2 does not require 3rd party support as the game is easy enough and does not require a lot of number crunching and things like that. Isn´t that exactly what Anet aimed at with their farmvilly target audience?

Seems to be a typical raid-grinder page if i also see this :

The end-game of GW2 is not as competitive or high-stakes as other MMOs.

So no .. don’t see it as “bad news”, since GW2 was never announced to be an EQ-Style games.

In trinity system, each classes has their unique strength and individual weakness. It require more cooperation but because of this, they are able demonstrate their unique strength and perform tasks that others can’t. Trinity system make you feel important, it make you feel like you are playing as a team.

I never really felt important as a DD in Trinity Systems where when the tank or healer died all i wanted was a gun to shoot myself in the head, because there was mostly nothing you could do then waiting for your incoming death.

The only roles that feel important are tanks or healers, but they are also the ones that get all the blame if something wents wrong.

I don’t understand how a raid dungeon you can supposely do at most 4 times a month is called a grind. They are usually on a timer.

Some people call them a second job though.

It’s a grind because by the time you get the drops you want, you’re probably well bored of the content. It also forces you to put everything on hold to go raid with your guild (PUG raids…ewwwwwwwwwww), which is quite annoying.

you mean like the guy on the forum complaining he got jack from spending 200 hours doing wurm.

The good thing is that you here can totally ignore Tequatl and Wurm like i do, and i don’t miss anything.
Would i do that in other MMOs, like i did, i will always only have stuff that is maybe just 60% as good as what they have.

On the supposed issue of endgame

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Beldin.5498

other MMORPG have an endgame with a meaningful goal (progression) and a directional grind. GW2 has no meaningful goals and an undirectional grind. I leave it to you what you prefer personally.

Where is the real goal to chase a carrot on the stick, since you know that as soon as you have reached what you wanted the next goal is something that will invalidate what you have reached ?

Lets put it in simple numbers. You have a weapon that does 100 damage and you Boss has 100.000 Hitpoints, now after killing this boss 100 times you get the weapon that does 110 damage, so that you now can move on to Boss 2 that has 110,000 Hitpoints, and that will give you weapon 3 that makes 120 damage, so you can go for Boss 3 with 120.000 Hitpoints.

Whenever you have reached Boss 10 with 200.000 Hitpints to get the 210 damage weapon, you get a new expansion where the normal weapons from the NPCs already do 210 damage, but hey .. Boss 11 is new .. he gives 220 damage weapons.

TP facilitates casual play by allowing players to both buy and sell nearly any gear they could want at decent prices.
If you expect to have everything you want handed to you instantly, you’re playing the wrong kind of game. Try single player, you can look up the cheat codes and make your character rich, invincible and max level in five minutes or less.

I’m much more rich than most players so it is not about any instant gratification bullkitten, my problem is I’m only rich because of the TP, everything I get through normal gameplay is worth nothing…partly because of the TP…so the casual players who dont trade on tp for profit are in far worse position than me

Those casual players would have even less money if there is no TP and when they instead have to sell everything at NPCs since its much easier to sell stuff at least at the TP instead of having to spam the chat all day and also the TP gives you directly an idea what your stuff is worth.

Another person that misses the whole point of the discussion. It is not about “the bad and ugly gem shop”, but rather THE FOCUS on the gem shop rather than the Living Story as evidenced by terrible, quality-wise, LS updates in Season 1, which added no more than 1/50 of the gem shop items.

Seriously, people, try to see the point most of people here are making.

Just because YOU don’t liked the content doesn’t mean that the content hasn’t been created and that it tooks a lot of hours to create them, and that the creators are human beeings that need some money to pay their rent and buy something to eat.

However, i wonder really why you are all still here instead of all those other games that give you sooo much more and better content for free, since it seems there must be so much of them out there.

And of course a game like WoW with monthly subscription also stops taking money from you if they don’t bring out new content or even just content you personally don’t like … ohh .. wait .. they don’t .. while here you are free to not pay anything if your not satisfied.

That would be too hard to implement and I can see that there would be a huge exploit issue. NO

It is the truth – when A.Net brought in the Ursan skill, they thought it would be a hard skill to use and situational. It was exploited for 6 months before it was nerfed into oblivion.

All players want a balanced game but the balance HAS to be in their favor not others. This whole issue smacks of that exact attitude.

I bet the ursan skill was also the reason why dyes are characterbound and that will never be changed, and why you have to buy each skin again and again for every character … and that will never change .. because .. it can be exploited thanks to the ursan skill (whatever the heck that is .. but hey .. a reason for things that will never happen)

Ahh … and now we also now why we will NEVER EVER get trait templates .. because of the Ursan Skill !!!!

Ursan Skill = 42 !!

It’s also the reason why we will never have mounts or go to Cantha

Skills are different than dyes. The more ridiculous your statements are, the more people realize you never really think about anything other than, "I WANT THIS!!’ That is not a reason.

I have given plausible explanations and then my reasons are belittled. Nice argument. Please learn how to debate. Making fun or belittling just takes away from your arguments.

1. I want this is a reason.

2. No .. you don’t have given plausible explanations .. i don’t know what any skill from a totally different game has to do with a weapon swapping mechanism in this game.

I could else also say : Oh .. playing games on windows is something we never should want to do because windows is so full of bugs and can be exploited .. it will never happen. Only games on Linux or nothing else.

Of course you are right, they haven’t added any new grand adventure to go with the loot. simply putting the loot as random drops in the game would not be any more entertaining. however, if they put the loot in a grand adventure, that would be pretty good.

Exactly this!
Why not have these skins tied to some event/adventure-pack? Heck, tie it to Living Story, and then after it goes away ( as it always does ;_; ), wait a month or two to release it as gem store skins. Yes, that will irk the elitist set, but they already got their skin for free and before anyone else, so nyeh.

Or better .. to hell with all those skins .. give us a good P2W gemshop like Runes of Magic and nobody will complain again because there doesn’t need to be a story tp bring your items to +20 for 500 bucks and do that again after each level cap.

I mean .. we see that the attempt to NOT make a P2W shop has miserably failed since the shop here is soooo evil that any P2W modell can just be better.

THIS! Agreed 2000%! Some people just need to learn to take a moment and read before blurting out garbage.

Its not about garbage. If I come into a sPvP match, i don’t have access to my inventory and I can’t change weapons. With my thief I have access to 2 weapons each with 5 skills. When I come with my Elementalist, i have 1 weapon with 4 attunements, each having 5 skills. Its not fair If the Ele can use S/D against a certain professions, then get out of combat and switch to D/D because he see another professions and then engage that guys with a different set. I get that its out of combat, still that give a advantage to the Ele that now have a lot more choice of skill during each battle.

But its fair that every other class can switch between ranged and melee weapons all the time even in combat, but a d/d ele can’t even do that out of combat ?

And the storys about that 20 skills .. most of them are just garbage fillers that you only use because you wait to switch back to fire.

Why can’t anyone at least READ THE FIRST POST before you start to post unrelated stuff ???

It was asked to SWAP weapons OUT OF COMBAT … so its just that you don’t have the hazzle with inventory management.

And i’m all for it .. it plain sucks if i use a staff and want to change to Scepter/Dagger and after that there is a free space in my invisible bag, so that i have to fill it with salvage kit or any other junk that i can’t sale for accident, and when i want to change again i first have again to move that into a normal bag, so that i have again space for 2 weapons.

And for Ele AA .. on Scepter Fire also is bad .. so Lightning is the only decent.

Endgame beeing gemstore isn't good!

It’s one thing to put a lot of armor skins on the gemstore to make money. That helps generate revenue. It’s quite another to put QUALITY armor skins on the gemstore.

The recent Lawless armor put on there is garbage. Awful looking, low res, no imagination. Did they hire fresh out of school designers to save money? Seriously, all the Lawless stuff is horrid, and I’d be surprised if anyone bought it.

It’s as if they aren’t even trying anymore, and put the whole game on auto pilot.

If they put “good looking” stuff in the TP all the time, i bet some people would also make a drama out of it like with the watchwork pickaxe, since they suddenly feel what they bought recently is now garbage and ANet has cheated them.

May sound strange, but when i see how some people on the forums behave, i really believe in something like that

Yeah .. it seems to be on a daily reset like Ori for the total number you can harvest in a zone, but on a 1 hour timer as long as you don’t have harvest the maximum like every normal ore that you can harvest unlimited times.

I did really well with rosemary sprigs. during season 1 they shot up to over 7 silver each I think.

For a while they were even around 16s .. when we had the Queens Palace event. That time i made 12-15g per hour with harvesting wood and herbs in Dredgehaunt Cliffs. Until ascended armor came out it was still ok with around 8g per hour, but then the wood prices went down

Comparing China TP to NA/EU

in Black Lion Trading Co

Beldin.5498

When we started out, we had no clue what was going on. We didnt know what mobs drop which loot, farming techniques that are now common knowledge didnt exist or werent practiced in masses like now and mystic forge recipes had to be discovered by the player base. No droprate research on lootbags and salvage materials.
Seriously, check out the first pages of topics posted in the BLTC and Crafting Forums and you gonna have quite a laugh about what concerned players in the early days.

I am quite sure that there are many players playing the Chinese Version now that played our version before. So they basically start with a (common) knowledge which items are in demand at end game, reward mechanics, forge recipes and the economy in general, so its just natural that their markets find a different equilibrium than ours.

Does the knowledge however really help them much if Platinum sells just for 7 copper there instead of 2 silver like here ? And T6 mats are maybe .. what .. 5s or whatever ?

The interesting question for me is .. how the hell did somebody get 1000g in that short time to set a buy order for that, since you must own those 1000g already, else you can’t setup the order.

WoTLK was over 4 years ago. Some games actually change, and some games get gemshop content.

Oh yes .. of course :

I played WoW from beta. Vanilla beta, that is, in 2004. I was a hardcore raider in Vanilla, TBC, and Wrath. Realm-first kills, ironbound drake, the whole bit. I retired to a smaller family guild shortly after Cataclysm though because I was just burning out. I enjoyed Cataclysm.. then Panda. Panda was pure crap through and through. I found myself doing dailies to unlock more dailies just so I could get kittenty tier armor to try to get into raiding.. one night I just kind of snapped and realized how asinine it all was, and how much I actually dreaded logging in. It had become a job that I hated. I quit that night and never looked back.

I spent some time bouncing around and found my way over to GW2 and pulled it down on a demo. My first character was an Elementalist, and the fact that I could cast while moving and dodging just blew my mind. Combat that is interactive, not just hitting 2,2,3,2,2,4 while standing still? Yes please! I made a mesmer afterward and was hooked.

I still don’t miss WoW. I try out all the new stuff as it comes out just to see if I like it, and nothing compares to the combat of GW2.

Btw.: it took WoW over 2 years for their first expansion (EQ2 was at the third expansion already at that time) and it was already over 4 years old at Wotlk.

Also in EQ2 each expansion at least contained every older expansion and the initial game, while in WoW that never has happend whenever i was looking for that, so you really need to pay for every single expansion if you actually want to play the whole game.

Yepp .. that all sounds soooo much better :

I played WoW from beta to WOTLK, I was raid leader for most of that. GW2 solves all the problems I had in WoW and then some:

1) PvP shouldn’t be primarily gear dependent, like it was in WoW.

2) Raids felt more like a test of getting everyone on the same page and doing their jobs rather that a test of skill. Gathering the right mix of players and getting enough players sucked, too.

3) On the same subject of raids, you had to run it multiple times to gear everyone up. Honestly the raids got boring after the first 2-3 times of clearing it.

4) Dailies sucked, but on non-raid nights they were literally the only reason to log in. Since they were literally the same thing each time (unlike GW2 dailies) they became old very quickly.

5) Content updates took around 6 months to come around and were often delayed.

6) No customization of appearance if you want to be competitive.

I found myself literally logging on just to talk with my friends online, and leading raids I didn’t even really enjoy; I just wanted to get the gear for everyone and get out. It was a very unfulfilling gaming experience at the end.

That being said, I did have a lot of fun going through dungeons/raids the first 1-2 times, probably even more fun than going through dungeons in GW2. But since you would usually run a dungeon 10+ times in pursuit of reputation/drops, it just became a grind.

How I feel about playing Guild Wars 2:

PvP is about 10x better. Combat system is more in-depth, more dynamic, a lot more possibilities. I do wish for more combat modes, but I understand why they haven’t been implemented.

Customization of appearance is 1000x better (because WoW had none in Wotlk, so yeah…)

Dungeons would be worse if it had gear I needed, but they don’t, and even if I want to farm for a skin it would only take 3-6 runs to get it.

Content updates occur at a rate that I am very happy with, with the exception of this last month…that being said, it looks like they’re picking up again so yay.

Dynamic Events actually make the open world interesting…I know that’s an unpopular opinion in this subreddit, but honestly I’ve done 100% clear on two toons and I still come across DE’s that I haven’t done before now and then. And they have a REAL effect on the world. Sure, it’s not lasting, but waypoints get unlocked, merchants get unlocked, toons go to and fro, I freakin’ love it.

You can discover all those armor types where you can buy the receipe for the insignia at the crafting NPC.
