I believe this may be more in line with what players were hoping for. Also note, many of the tasks are BELOW the level where you will unlock a trait tier – this is intentional. I believe you will see better results if people can have immediate access to the content and use that to fuel growth, rather than being gated by their level for content they should have access to already.

Notice that most of these tasks are vague and open-ended, designed to compliment a “play as you want” style. Traits are gained in progression without having to force too much checklist style exploration. If a trait is not listed here, it’s because I personally consider it to be at least feasible. Others should comment as necessary.

Suggestions for new trait unlocks:

1-I: Obsidian Sanctum. Complete three jumping puzzles. Any puzzles.

1-II: Inferno’s Needle. Help the Charr fight the flame legion! Complete 10 Flame Legion-themed hearts

1-III: 100% Gendarran Field. Complete five “combat” skill challenges in Kryta

1-V: 100% Blazeridge Steppes. Defeat a Champion creature in Brisban Wildlands

1-VII: Ogre Camp. Locate 10 “camp” POIs

1-VIII: Citadel of Flame Defeat a Champion creature in Fireheart Rise

Problem: Trait unlocks are tedious (line 2)
2-II: Twilight Arbor. Help the Sylvari fight the Nightmare Court! Complete 10 Nightmare Court-themed renown hearts.

2-VI: Lornar’s Pass. Complete five “commune” skill challenges in the Shiverpeak Mountains

2-VII: Hylek Camp. Defeat a Champion creature in Sparkfly Fen

2-X: Personal Story Forging the Pact. Complete one group event in five of the following: Sparkfly, Maelstrom, Timberline, Frostgorge, Iron Marches, Fireheart

2-XI: Crucible of Eternity. Secure Infinity Coil

Problem: Trait unlocks are tedious (line 3)
3-II: Battle for Claw Island. Complete level 28 personal story (racial arc)

3-III: Stonegaze Spire. Complete five “combat” skill challenges in the Maguuma Jungle

3-VI: Victurus the Shattered. Locate 10 “ruins” POIs

3-V: 100% Fields of Ruin. Defeat a Champion creature in the Fields of Ruin

3-VI: Giant Blood Ooze. Help the Norn fight the Sons of Svanir! Complete 10 Sons of Svanir-themed renown hearts.

3-VII: Dredge Camp. Defeat a Champion creature in Bloodtide Coast

3-VIII: Sorrow’s Embrace. Defeat a Champion creature in Timberline Falls

3-X: Battle for Fort Trinity. Locate Vizier’s Tower

Problem: Trait unlocks are tedious (line 4)
4-I: Light in the Darkness. Complete five “combat” skill challenges in the Shiverpeak Mountains

4-II: Tytone Perch. Find Beaker

4-IV: 100% Harathi Hinterlands. Help the humans fight centaurs! Complete 10 centaur-themed renown hearts

4-VI: Krait Witch in Timberline Falls. Complete five “commune” challenges in the Maguuma Jungle

4-VIII: Chest in Arundon Vale. Locate Diedre’s Garden

4-X: Source of Orr. Chest in Arundon Vale

4-XI: Honor of the Waves. Defeat one of the Dragon Champion world bosses (Teq, Shatterer, Jormag)

Problem: Trait unlocks are tedious (line 5)
5-I: Caudecus’s Manor. Complete five “commune” skill challenges in Kryta

5-III: Retribution. Complete five “combat” skill challenges in Ascalon

5-VI: 100% Dredgehaunt Cliffs. Help the Asura! Complete 10 Inquest-themed renown hearts

5-V: Champ Ice Wurm. Defeat a Champion creature in Lornar’s Pass

5-VI: Lord Ignius the Eternal. Defeat a Champion creature in Snowden Drifts

5-VIII: Infinity Coil Commander. Defeat a Champion creature in Mount Maelstrom

5-IX: Admiral Taidha Covington. Defeat any of the 50-70 world bosses.

5-XI: Overgrown Grub. Complete 10 “combat” skill challenges in Orr

5-XII: Ruined City of Arah. Complete 10 “commune” skill challenges in Orr

My god this is brilliant and works. Some numbers may need tweeking, but by the Khan-Ur I love the way this is done.

Yes, sadly this makes so much more sense than what the paid help came up with that I may cry. They should just copy-paste and pretend that it was their idea.

If u use both (silver-one for yellows and up and copper for Whites to greens)… Then u actually SAVE Money compared to buy yellow salvage kits (wich I used to do Before). And not only that. It saves space and the running buying new kits all the time too. It IS a handy tool – if u know how to use it.

Not really so hard to do.

Got downed once {at level 3}when I soloed the big elemental at the dam. Rallied, killed him and his minions. He dropped a 0 level blue mighty staff, which sells for more on the tp than most rares.

I still have a lot of mystics too.

Im just frustrated at anet thinking they could get away with posting an item in gemstore which clearly isnt giving anyone a benefit and rather tricking them to waste more of their hard earned gold.

Getting away with?

You need to take step back and take a deep breath. Your using a rudely accusatory tone and terms for a convenience item. The tools for harvesting cost a lot more then the free ones we can buy with karma. Never made them a “rip off”. It is called convenience.

Or maybe because it is an indicator that there’s something messed up about the game’s current direction.

Or maybe it isn’t. paying for convenience is a fairly common occurrence world wide. I like the fact that it takes one inventory slot rather then carrying multiple stacks of the other ones when running around WvW.

All righty. Go ahead and buy one or more.

But in my opinion there are so many more cost effective ways to achieve bag space.

This part that makes me think that new chars will get the email to start the personal story at level 10.

“As another addition with the level-up guide, we’re updating the personal story steps using our new Story Journal so they come in story chunks that unlock all at once per chapter. When a story chapter is unlocked as a level-up reward, you’ll be able to play straight through the entire chapter from start to finish and not have any awkward starts and stops that throw off the storyline. In this way, story chapters become another big moment to look forward to earning and unlocking as your character levels up.”

They want people to be able to play that segment of the story line from start to stop. The awkward starts and stops they are referring to are people stopping the progress of the personal story to level enough to do the next step. In order to remove the “starts and stops” the person has to be of high enough level to tackle the final instance of the segment.

Most people who aren’t familiar with the game are not going to take a level 2 char and play through through the level 10 instance. If you play straight through, you are only level 4 at the end. They don’t know the shortcuts. They don’t know the skills. They probably don’t know how to strafe. They’re noobs. Since ANet wants them to be able to play each section straight through when they get the notification it makes more sense for the personal story to start at level 10. At that level by the time they hit the level 10 instance they should be level 13 or 14.

Yeah, but by that time the content of the personal story chunk will be kind of anti-climatic. Like you said, if you play straight through now, you are level 4ish at the end. You can’t even use the rewards until you level a bit more.

Except for the BL key of course.

Because they need something to complain about of course. Just ignoring stuff that you dislike is apparently impossible on these forums ^^

Or maybe because it is an indicator that there’s something messed up about the game’s current direction.

Good enough, key farming is stupid, and obviously not something they wanted players to do.

Yes obviously anything that stops players from buying gems and keys in the BLTC must be stopped.

I typed a lengthy reply, but my session expired (wtf guys, I’ve been posting all day, there’s no excuse for this). To summarize, key farming is a dumb exploit that allows players to circumvent an entire revenue channel, and it’s surprising they took this long to fix it.

If we do not have any means of converting gold to gems, this would probably have merit.

Point taken, but that doesn’t mean it’s any less detrimental to have hundreds of people getting free keys every 20 minutes. Now the price of BL skins goes up, and more people will buy gems to convert to gold to get them. There’s always more to it.

Not to mention key farming is kind of a huge slap in the face to ANet. “Yeah we like your game, but the only part that’s really worth the time is the first 20 minutes.” I’m sure they appreciated that.

First 20 minutes IS the best part of the game.

Considering there really is no good way to obtain keys currently, if this does in fact remove them from story rewards, it’ll feel like an intentional slap in the face.

1. Pull out credit card
2. Open Gem store
3. Buy pack of Black Lion Keys

Keys are supposed to be their main source of RNG revenue… it was never intended for people to get them for free.

Who in their right mind would pay for BL keys? Or the silver fed salvage-o-matic? Or traits of all things. If that is what they hope to float this boat on, be prepared for the lights going out.

If a player can’t evaluate these items intelligently, how is that Anet’s fault? Nobody is hidding the simple math you just did from anyone. If you don’t feel the convenience of never having to buy a mid level kit is worth that cost….simply don’t buy it.

The real issue is if new players even KNOW about Mystic Kits….

Now that we have that out of the way, make your REAL complaint….that the kit does not fit what YOU want.

The idea here is to help new people (who do not have the experience to evaluate intelligently) to avoid wasting money on a poorly thought out item.

And thank you for bringing up the mystic kits. No one really needs them until they start getting rares and up. The copper fed machine is the one you want for everything else.

Unless you are short of Mystic Forge Stones (or use them for Flusher attempts), I’d say sticking with Mystic Kits is certainly more lucrative.

Why is anyone “annoyed” by this item? It’s available and up to each player to evaluate it’s usefulness for their play-style.

Mystic kits for me. I guess I’m just kinda annoyed that they wasted time on the item in the first place.

I can’t agree with this. Your problem is you have 7 characters. There is no need for so many. It is your choice to have that many, furthermore it’s your choice to outfit them all with exotics. Ya know, I was an altoholic too in GW1 and I was perpetually poor. I’ve since made it a golden rule for myself to keep characters to a maximum of two or three.

Yes. Altaholism can be a serious impediment to account progress.

And how do you roll and maintain 7 with any sort of normal existence?

You been saying that last year.

And last year they were, you saw the results in April. Those kinds of changes aren’t programmed in a week or two.

I’m not the one complaining. Other people are complaining about the lack of content they want. Or the lack of content. Or they think the April patch is lackster.

From April, re-trait on the fly and second slot for 2 handers (which is not a new concept, for instance the late, great WHO).
