Why do I have to unlock skills again

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Bellizare.5816

Hello, I decided to check out the update on my lvl 80 Ele which had all the skills for it unlocked previously, but now when I look it is asking me to spend points to unlock all my glyph and signets skills again. I already spent the skill points once to unlocked it, I should not have to do so again.

Of course you need to do so again. You should have enough hero points to unlock everything if you are 80.

Or be selective. Point being you actually have been gifted.

Pretty much if you get to 80, you get it all. Kind of anticlimactic after the whole traits debacle.

To be determined, how many hero points for the new masteries?

Yeah what a farce.. All my lvl 80’s had everything unlocked and all had spare SP’s on them… in fact one of them alone had in excess of 1000 SP’s and a stack in the bank.. now all my toons have to spend some of those converted spare SP’s to re spend unlocking stuff I already spent on previous…. unbelievable.

Also.. those shards……. All my lvl 80’s (11 of them) had 100-1000+ SP’s spare on them (plus a stack extra in the bank) so why do I now only have 960 shards to use.. the cost of the forge items haven’t been altered but the exchange rate of SP’s to shards is a complete rip off.. 1SP SHOULD = 1 shard if the item costs are the same.

No you don’t, you’re not spending a single one of your old skill points on anything. Traits and skills are essentially free now.

So why not just unlock them all for existing 80’s? Save us all a few clicks, especially with multiple 80’s.

Because, should you choose to hold off on unlocking everything, then you will need less hero points to unlock all of the elite specialization traits and utilities. You could forgo buying the things you don’t care about right now and use those points for that instead, if you don’t have any/enough skill challenges complete. They added that for the WvW crowd.

By that reasoning, I should be kittened that they unlocked anything at all.

Hmm, I call it thinking like a rational human being rather being following blind emotion unquestionably.

To think is to exist. To think about thinking is to learn.

Yes, I helped them move beyond anger to a better place.

Fair enough but you will probably have to wait another 2-3 years to play it. Meanwhile the rest of us will be enjoying it. See you in HoT in 2-3 years.

You mean you get to playtest it for us. Since ANet fixes the gemstore first and always, the environments will no doubt be full of bugged quests.

I’d rather take my 50$ and play The Witcher 3 for a year, then grab HoT when it’s on sale for 10$.

Why on Earth would anyone slap down 50 bux for what is essentially an empty box with the GW2 logo on it?!

Because they have faith.

I pre purchased the original game, played alpha and betas, contribute regularly to the gem store and bought the ULTIMATE option. Funny how $35 would make some of you happy. 10 is what it would take to make others happy.

Thanks for a great game over 3 years with no required pay walls, Anet. Thank you. You’re so greedy. Not asking for money and all that.

You can mow lawns for 20 bucks where I live. Suck it up.

I can get my extensive lawn mowed for much less. Where the heck do you live anyway?

Not arizona. A cab ride is 70 bucks. A bottle of whisky 50 bucks. A steak dinner with my wife, 120 easy.

Wow. TG I live in CA. But I must ask, what kinda whiskey?

If you’re buying the Ultimate pack, there certainly is reason to preorder. Let’s pretend I was going to buy 4000 gems. By preordering I get them half price, and still get a game I knew I was going to buy anyway.

And that is an excellent reason.

In today’s world most companies idea of customer service and loyalty is defined by the absolute minimum they can do and still retain your business. If they think the masses will pay $50 + $10 for a character slot, that’s what they are going to ask of you. They have employees there who’s sole job is to get a feel for the community to see how far they can bend it before it breaks.

They don’t care about you or me, they care about what is in your wallet, period. Loyal fan who has been with them for 10 years or someone who has yet to give them a dime, means nothing, it’s all measured in dollars and cents. They will pay you lip service and tell you otherwise, but only a fool believes anything a snake oil salesman tells them.

If enough people complain, they will give you a character slot, but believe me, they probably went into this knowing this might happen and are controlling the situation, guiding the community to ask for as little as possible to make them happy enough to spend more money. Marketing and sales teams are taught how to maximize sales, not make people happy, unless it benefits sales.

Yep. They already got that bone in hand to throw to the pack.

You guys should stop playing video games and get better jobs

This is not about money, this is mainly about value. There is a difference.
If you have grown up in a very consumer heavy society like North America, throwing money at over-prized stuff is part of your daily life. The value of a product is secondary as long as it is the up-to-date “thing”.

In other societies the value of a product consists of both, the cost and the degree of satisfaction in regards of expectations. $50 here is a dinner for two, $100 if you want something better than pizza. Even though you could say that is fairly expensive, together with the experience I see enough value to pay for the experience.
I don’t care about the prize tag, as long as I see the proper value in the product.

Which right now I see not in GW2:HoT, and neither does my wife. Two less buyers of the expansion for now.

Value is subjective. Fifty dollars is nothing to an adult. For example…A man with a wife and three kids wants a burger for dinner. He ends up paying about $50 to eat his burger. If he wants an ice cream cone it will cost him around 10-15 dollars. Fifty dollars is nothing.

Yep. Once upon a time I got to spend all the $ from my paper route on stuff because my daddy provided me with all the basics and more. Oddly enough, when I became an “adult” my discretionary income declined.

Why pre order anyway?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Bellizare.5816

It is a matter of perspective.

Not once has Anet said you have to buy this now even though we havent given you much details on it. They are simply providing us with the opportunity to pay for the product in advance, to get it out of the way, to budget for it if that is an issue. they are offering us bonus items for our commitment, bonus items which from my perspective are junk, but I appreciate that others would want them even if I dont understand why.

The pre order results will turn into projections and will fund the project, including promotion for it. If the preorder goes well enough there will be more magazine drops, more articles, more media exposure et cetera because Anet will be able to afford it, using revenue generation to finance even more revenue generation which will finance further developement.

I wasnt going to preorder, after all this debate: Im going to. From my perspective, Anet deserves their money in advance, and I am positive I will not be disappointed

I am surprised that you did not already pre-purchase based on your comments in other threads.

People will still rage but they will save face by being honest, the whole trying to hide it behind edits is doing nothing positive for them. All they are accomplishing now is making themselves look even more shady and dishonest/guilty of false advertising.

It looks stinky, but what other choice did they have? The new answer is true.

Bellizare.5816

I’m happy. This is why i’m happy.

Played lot’s of mmo’s. 50 dollars or more is about average for expansion prices of other mmo’s. Some with less content.

Second, Anet is correct in saying in the Faq that you’ll need the core to play the xpac.

Third, I know i’m not paying for the core a second time. It’s “FREE” apparently that’s a hard concept for some people.

Fourth, when has Anet ever released sale details ahead of schedule. We knew that the preorder was coming. We just didn’t know what was gonna be part of it. Core game “FREE” with preorder. I look at it as a bonus/sale that i have no use for.

For the people who never played mmo’s before. This is throwing them for a loop. This isn’t a steam game, this isn’t a console game, this is an mmo. The amount of “FREE” content that anet delivers is unrivaled by most other mmo’s.

If you don’t want to buy the xpac. I’ll cya next year when anet puts it on sale for 10 bucks. The nice thing about this game is, you can come and go as you please and not feel left out.

FREE: adverb

without cost or payment.

Most likely I will see you in December when the xpac will be selling at $19.99 with a “free” slot thrown in.

And there was this company called America Online that gave you 50 hours of free access to his internet via a dial up conection… (you know.. modems… those things that connected your computer to Al’s internet using a phone line)

Yes, kiddos… we used to get our internet access for FREE! (when you paid your $50 monthly subscription… wait… so… how was that free again? I get these hours free… when I pay… hum… I don’t get it…)

bottom line… marketing is kittening stupid sometimes, but the people that fall for stupid marketing are even more stupid

Stop the white knight.
Two people go into same shop to buy a bundle made out of 2 items, lets call the item BOB, Person 1 already have a BOB and person two dont.
Bundle contains BOB and a expansion for BOB.

The Problem is when you leave the store, a store clerk come running after you and say to the one: Sorry Sir, but i see that you already have BOB at home and takes your BOB away.

Both payed the same amount, How do you think person 1 feels now ?

This is the main reason people are getting so angry. We hate when other steal from us

Only in the mind of MMO players is someone else getting something equal to you having something stolen from you.

Better:
Nearly every day Customer A goes to a cafe that has great coffee and breakfast sandwiches. Some days he gets coffee and a sandwich, some days just coffee. Yesterday he went in and bought a coffee and sandwich. Today customer A goes in and just buys a coffee. At the same time, Customer B walks in and orders the same coffee too. The cafe owner notices that Customer B has never been there before and asks, “Is this your first time here? Our specialty is the bacon and egg sandwich.” Sensing an opportunity to create a repeat customer, the cafe owner offers Customer B a sandwich for free with his coffee purchase.

Normal world thinking: The cafe owner is using a promotion to try to create a new “regular” customer.

MMO forum thinking: Customer A had the sandwich that he ate yesterday stolen from him.

If its a promotion then every person entering that cafe that day should get the same deal not just new ones.

Why? Some deluded idea of what is “fair” or constitutes a “slap in the face”? There are promotions limited to new accounts/new customers EVERYWHERE – bank accounts, cable, phone. Is a business not allowed to promote itself as it sees fit?

Fact is, the loudest complainers here are obviously strongly tied to the game and are probably amongst the most likely to purchase the expansion. There is little need to promote to try to modify their behavior.

Well, I always complain loudly to new account promotions. That’s why my cable, bank and phone fees are probably much lower than yours.

-you bought a sandwich yesterday for 2$.
-today there is a new ingredient on your sandwich, tomato.
-they now sell the sandwich for 3$
-you go and complain you want just the tomato for less than 3$ since you already have the sandwich, but they tell you they only come together, so you can’t get the tomato on its own unless you pay the full prize.
-you complain about being a “loyal” customer. (even though some of those are known to just sit on the place to steal wifi).
-they remind you that they know that and each year for your birthday they give you special freebies. But you want more.

And that is what you people can’t wrap around your head. all you think is “I have been playing a long time, and therefore I need compensation and special treatment. beacuse birthday freebies and stuff isn’t enough.”

They aren’t giving anything to anyone. New players aren’t getting the base game for free. They are paying 50$ for it and the xpac. Saying it is free is just a cheap marketing tactic. Just last week the base game was worth 40$ all of a sudden it is worth nothing?

And to be honest, what new players are beating down the doors to pre-purchase? The $50 price tag is dangling there for vets to be sure.

I think people often times forget that GW2 makes up the lack of sub money in gem store purchases. It isn’t liek theya re missing out on 15 dollars a month from each player. Are you sure about the certainty that all we are known to receive in HOT is all that comes in the xpac? I’ll wait and see until more beta players share info and ANET hopefully releases more tidbits. But as of now, it definetly isn’t worth 50 dollars based on what we know. I just don’t believe the people who come here to justify their prepurchases are truly content with it. If they were, they would be playing the beta and not caring what people who feel differently feel. It is as if they must convert people to their position to validate their purchase so early.

$185.00 over a couple of years.

Try to spend around $10.00 a month as a “subscription” fee. I enjoy the game, and want to express my support. Also, like someone said above, you can get some cool swag, and I used to spend more on monthly subs with other games.

Forgo a couple of large #4 combos with extra cheese and go buy ’em!
