Wow people are really defending this change… I didn’t realize the game had sunk so low that something like this is actually defensible….
You always get this sort of fanboi BS in every game. Personally, I find the new dailies extremely limited, and liked to do the ones we used to have. Adding more options for dailies would have been fine. What really sucks is this edition of Wintersday, as it expands on the “Less is more” BS theme they rolled out. No snowball fighting this year, and the bell controls are screwed up too (used to coincide with my number keys, and now has unusable #1 and #0). – not to mention not getting credit for “participating” in the bell choir at all.
But yeah – Anet does stuff I dont like, then I just wont play. Fanbois are happy, and anet gets less cash. Win-win, right?
I don’t remember the wintersday you are talking about, but last year’s, if I remember right, they had 1-4 and 6-9 inclusive on mine in the bell choir subarea, and they seemed to work ok on mine, so that part is the same as last year, but most of the rest I agree with. It is apparently moreso in their mind that taking away more for the players to choose from and most likely driving more away is to be seen somehow as a good thing.
Somehow, some people are still thinking that less options is to be seen somehow as better than more options.
Less options make many people more comfortable. This phenomenon has been responsible for a variety of social systems.

Queensdale was pretty much clear cut tonight.
inb4 new players @ lowbie zone complaining they can’t play normally when dailies are directed @ that zone.
Wait, wasn’t that the excuse for Queensdale farm train nerf? lol
Yes, I was there on an alt. The huge groups of 80’s in exotic + gear must have looked impressive to actual new players.
On the other hand they casually assisted me in defeating Defeat Franklin Quickblade and his band of rogues while simultaneously protecting the ranchers from bandits.
Queensdale was pretty much clear cut tonight.
The doing of the dailies would also give additional experience. And a little bit each day would likely add up. Especially if they felt like playing the character for longer than it took to get the daily done.
Ah, I’ve never felt like dailies contributed much to my progress.
At this point a lot of the objections to the new system seem unreasonable and whiny, like a person who won a prize and is annoyed that they have to leave home to collect it.
Hard to tell if I’m White-Knighting or ANet really did good with this update. I’m a bit sorry that so many people are bummed about something I think is awesome.
I logged in and got an immediate reward, then ran the table in short order.
I’m really not sure how I feel about it.
To be honest, I hardly recognize the game anymore.
Fortunately I don’t have to pay any sort of monthly fee, and I certainly got my discounted digital deluxe purchase price worth of game.
I kind of feel sorry for you folks that are just starting out. It was so much easier for me.
I typed KITTEN out manually, so this is a legit title.

I am a level 80 mesmer from using tomes and crafting.
I now have some experience on my mesmer in PvP.
I wanted to play WvW with guildmates because I feel decent enough at mesmer now.I have no traits in PvE or WvW.
I need to pay gold that I don’t currently have to unlock traits.
I need a TON of skill points that I don’t have because of buying skills, to unlock traits.I can’t play WvW with my guildmates on my level 80 mesmer tonight.
TY for this new system that I recently got the displeasure of experiencing.
I will probably not be telling my friends to buy Guild Wars 2…Ok so, you skipped your way to 80 without experiencing most of what the game has to offer on your character … .
Is there anything in the game you are no longer able to do once you hit level 80? When I powerleveled my characters to level 80 I had access to everything they had access to at level 2 plus much more. I went back on my level 80s and did the low level personal story quests, dungeons, zones and crafting with zero problems.
I could be wrong now though. I haven’t leveled a character to 80 with the new trait and npe changes.
Traits are now unlocked by purchasing each one from the trainer with skill points and gold OR … completing PVE content. Some of the content is not reasonable for the level of trait but still, you are correct. If you are level 80, there should be NO issue for someone to go out, complete the task to get the traits they need and buy the GM ones they need.
The OP’s complaint is sad. Does anyone actually reasonably think they should have a playable, trained character by powerleveling from sitting around a crafting table? I don’t think so …. unless the whole point of the character is to RP crafting.
OP aside, what I see here is that lots of people liked the old trait system much better.

In case you missed the original massive thread.
“Let’s make this happen! Folks, go on Twitter, facebook or whatever and get attention to this thread. Anet themselves have “told” us that nothing changes unless enough noise is made. We want this to change, right? Let’s start making some noise.”
+1
lol. cops in America are killing people left and right, indiscriminately, without consequence, and you think posting to facekitten and twizzler is gonna change things?
Yes, and things are much worse in Africa and the Middle East for example.
I fail to see how this relates to the topic however.
I may be missing something, but are a bunch of you saying that it should be a painful grind to create a new alt?
2 hours for 1 key is a massive waste of time. Instead:
- spend time farming enough gold using your main so that you can:
- use that gold to level up a new toon to 10 so that you can:
- finish story in less that 20 mins.
If you don’t have a high(ish) level main, step 1 will be the slowest (how fast depends on your main’s level) but this will definitely be faster than your method.
I need to ponder (or try) your idea. Otherwise, this was the best opinion that I received on “modern” bl key farming.

These ones are pretty easy to get.
when I travel to the Altar Brook Trading post, the Black Lion Merchant there cannot be interacted with. (…) I cannot access any of my earned gold or purchased items from the Black Lion. I am currently running a lvl 12 Human Engineer
Yay, the user friendly NPE attacks again… :/ Well, as others have mentioned you can try accessing Trading Post on any racial city, since Trading Post on low level areas has became rare or locked.
Easiest way to get bank and trading post is to just go to the PvP lobby.
Also it is absolutely at no charge.
I can think of a lovely time to use the knockback: At Amber in SW, when the Husk Slingers persist in standing out of cannon range. Get behind the slinger, and fling it into a withering fusillade from the ramparts. (I’ve done that on my thief using the Steal knockback we get from husks, it’s glorious).
I’ve managed to use knock back form time to time to do something similar. I think that the lesson here is that bear bow can benefit greatly from moving. Don’t just stand around and pew-pew. Ranger has great mobility, and the pets are a bonus if used correctly.
The replacement golems were sent out a few minutes ago via in-game mail. Thanks for your patience, everyone!
I did not get the replacement golem in the mail.
Vayne, be more specific please. Where in options would be helpful.
Its the Options tab in the top right corner of your Inventory window.
Thank you.
Vayne, be more specific please. Where in options would be helpful.
Yes, there’s an option in options.
Thx. I’ll check.
Is there an option to turn off the hideous effects that I see when I open my backpack now?
I really don’t need the color coding, glowy, silly stuff.
I really don’t need it, or want it at all.
We’re aware of this issue and our Quality Assurance team is looking into it. Thanks for bringing it up!
Hey GM Talon, do you guyz intend to fix this anytime soon, like today?
Not to ask how this happened at first place lol :/We don’t have an ETA for a fix on this issue at this time.
Talon’s reply looks vaguely familiar.
What can I say, I’m a creature of habit! xP
Oddly enough, my guild banker works flawlessly.
And I made a career out of copy/paste.
We’re aware of this issue and our Quality Assurance team is looking into it. Thanks for bringing it up!
Hey GM Talon, do you guyz intend to fix this anytime soon, like today?
Not to ask how this happened at first place lol :/First question It will get fixed when it get fixed not like they can instantly see whats wrong and say yea this will take 2 hours.
Second question How in hell are they supposed to know that mate stuff happens when you add code.
Yes, the golem banker fix only took two weeks.
People are so impatient.
Talon’s reply looks vaguely familiar.
Hey, they fixed it in this patch. They didn’t
We will be sending one of these Golem Bankers to each account that was affected by the bug shortly thereafter.
yet.
Please fix this one — am really tired of trying to use it and it is costly to teleport to city with a banker — frustrating for a new player
.
You can access your bank at any crafting station. Go to your home WvW (for free). Crafting stations, BL trader etc. When you exit you are returned to where you were to begin with.
To clarify the bug a bit, the first time you use it, it will succeed in creating a banker golem that works. However, any use of the item afterwards will result in creating a golem that does nothing and disappears after a few seconds have passed.
Unless you are under water of course.
Warning, until level 8 you are barracuda bait under water.
In water (not standing but really swimming) it opens at once, no further interaction.
But what you describe happens to me on land.
I also get bank access while under water.
I did not see the actual golem however. A soon as I clicked on the golem in my inventory, the bank window opened.
I have had this off and on for awhile. If I move (even slightly) it seems to correct it.
Still hoping for a change.
The Golem Banker from the gem store is not experiencing this issue, only the one from the CE/DDE upgrade.
I hope to have an update for y’all on this tomorrow when more folks are in the studio. Thanks for your patience!
My patience is wearing a bit thin as a matter of fact.
(edited by Bellizare.5816)
I am using the one that you get with the deluxe digital edition. Is the one you buy with gems broken as well? I don’t want to waste the gems to find out.
I will buy marjory’s dagger and the katana if they ever come back, I’d buy them instantly. The whole point of a microtransaction model is to sell us skins, and yet you refuse.
But… they did come back. Belinda’s Greatsword, Marjory’s axe and dagger, Kasmeer’s staff, Braham’s mace and shield, and Rox’s bow and quiver were all available during the first week of Halloween.
Exactly. Just how exclusive is that?
Talk to any speciality auto manufacturer about exclusivity.. “…making only 300, and they are already sold, at 1.5 million dollars each…”
Be happy the exclusive skins aren’t much more expensive!
Save your allowance next time so you aren’t begging for an advance when something you want shows up on the gem store,
Comparing pixels to an exclusive auto manufacturer is a bit of a stretch in my opinion.
And I’m sure that the “exclusive” skins cost exactly what the “manufacturer” feels that the market will pay.
Still broken : <
I also sent an in-game report several hours ago.
Perhaps they could care less?
My golem banker appears, but the bank window does not open. After a few moments he disappears.
It did work at least once, when I took it from the mail.
Boss 1 – Don’t listen to anything the NPC’s say, it’s a lie. Range DPS cow-dragon-ram thing. When it isn’t up kill the tentacles that span till it goes into super charge and air attack mode. Repeat till it dies.
Boss 2 – Don’t get hit by rocks that stab out of the ground. To avoid them don’t stand where the green circles appear. To avoid the green circles, move away from their location. Again, range the boss if you are squishy.
Mini-purply-wolf Bosses – Dodge and distract them into attack Jori or Caithe. Once you have more than two npcs the wolves will develope attention deficit and you’ll be fine.
Yep. I threw my companions under the bus every time.
Also, I found that it is a good idea to have a level 80 open the loot bags.
yes and no.
for the exotic drops, yes, 80 is best. But for 99% of the time when all you get is greens, ~lvl 50 might be best (for the cotton/linen/soft/seasoned/hard/iron/platinum instead of silk/mithril/elder). It’s up to you which is better, but it’s not as clear-cut as you say. The only thing that’s certain i that level 10 is definitely not what you want to be using. Also, I might recommend that on your key farming character, you also collect a few of the easy skill points (and buy philosophers stones with them). Those can be converted into about 1-4g each. promoting to T2 refined basic materials is usually the best method.
Great advice. Now I need a level 50 lol.
I usually grab those skill points out of habit. Never occurred to me to make gold off of them. I do a couple of key runs each week, just for the heck of it, and I kind of enjoy the NPE.
Thanks
I can easily get a key in a little over an hour even after the run nerf.
I may be missing something here, but does that mean that it is more economical to key run rather than farm gold to buy the key?
It terms of pure cost, yes its more economical to do a key run then farm the gold to buy the key. Why? Well, for each transaction in converting gold to gems, the cost in gold for gems increases. Thus making subsequent gold farming for keys more expensive. Also, unless you are buying gear for your key run character, it’s cheaper then doing dungeons. Doing dungeons requires you to travel. So if you want to do them quickly you are going to be using the WPs, which for a level 80 character, and depending on which order you are doing the runs, can cost at least 2s per WP.
In doing key runs, at least leveling to level 10, there are little to no costs invloved and thus every coin you gain, is profit.
At least thats how I look at it.
Well, that makes sense.

Someone does not understand the concept of “They want your money”.
This will never happen.
Yes. I was amazed to get a key drop in Kessex Hills this week. I get exotic weopons with way more frequency.
almost like exotics are not that hard to get. Exotics have always been easier to get compared to getting a key, which makes sense when you realize that a key actually has value unlike most exotics.
Yes. Just pointing out that the little old keys are scarce as hen’s teeth in real world drops. But they do drop.
Agree that exotics are not so hard to get once you are 80 and have decent mf.
They no doubt have metrics that suggest that more people will impulse buy if an item is listed as limited.
And “Hot!” of course.
The other tried and true retail trick is to keep the item in rotation at a high mark up, then drop the price for a spectacular, time limited sale.

This is probably very hard for all those NPE folks that don’t have enough traits to really try new builds.
Great for me though, since I can re-trait for free anywhere.
Overall, I’m not overly fond of arcade game mechanics being introduced into MMO’s; GW2 appears to implement such things quite often. The Tangled Labyrinth certainly falls into that annoying category; I appreciate that ANet made the “dungeon” optional. (Too bad the silly key is account bound.)
I been playing games since the first arcade opened up in my town back in 84; I never enjoyed sudden death games but those were the only ones out at the time.
My true enjoyment started about the time we were able to save progress in a game; it is especially why I like persistent worlds like MMO’s.
I’m sure some players find the Labyrinth’s arcade style fun, but I suspect the “fun” is more in the completion and less in the doing.
Q: When is insta-death in a game fun?
A: Not often, if ever.
It’s cheap and harkens back to a time when games had far less complex programming.
Far less programming is not always a bad thing. I still have Master of Orion, Wing Commander and Marathon on my hard drive.
And I was pretty good at the arcades, especially Pac Man.
Seriously, the labyrinth gave me a good laugh.
Maybe all these pro players could link up some vids of them speed clearing the content. Help us poor noobies out.
I simply pointed out that I didn’t think it was fair to charge me to use a skin I already paid for.
You’re obviously entitled to an opinion, but I think it’s a weird use of terminology to jump from some items requiring a “start up fee + per-use cost” to “the game is nothing more than a cash shop.” The world is filled with things that require customers to fork out cash up front and then pay for usage:
- World of Warcraft
- Gym memberships
- Mobile phone (although other payment models exist, too)
- Copper-Fed and Silver-Fed Salvage-O-Matics
Are you willing to pay 3-500 gems more to avoid per-use costs? Personally, I prefer the current system, since I tend to change skins only a few times over the lifetime of a character.
Same here.
I do use outfits though from time to time. And once I bought them, they were free to use on any or multiple characters. I think that’s a pretty good value.
Air ship is strictly convenience. Just having everything within one area. This means all crafting tables, bank, trading post, repair, all vendors (laurel, armor, weapon, salvage kits, etc.), forge, and more.
Thanks.
Of course it is free to go to your WvW home, and when you are done go straight back where you came from. Alternately, you can take the gate to Lion’s Arch.
Huh? Am I missing something? How does that relate to anything we talked here?
What is on the airship that you can’t access other where easily and for free? I have the pass. I really don’t use it much.
I guess they fixed the silver fed Salvage thing. Maybe it’s worthwhile now. I have the copper fed one, and it gets way more use than my Mystic kits. If I have a rare or exotic I use the BL kit. I have a lot of them from the BL chests and other rewards.

Another of these threads. Check Wiki, check Dulfy, play and observe the game. The answers can be found in through ANY of these methods!
Not everyone knows about those. I’d normally link them but since he was still doing it, and had been for the past hour, I was more direct with my answer.
Fair enough (though even a google search pulls those up right away). Perhaps I’m a bit cynical. I simply get annoyed when people ask questions without even attempting to find out for themselves (in other words expecting other people to do the task and hand them the result).
That said, point taken and perhaps I just need to lower my expectations of the general populous. No sarcasm intended there either.
Or Bing. Whatever.
People come here for answers because it’s the GW2 FORUMS!
Obviously the best place to ask for advice. Don’t be so cynical. If you need to lower your expectations, perhaps they are set a bit too high.
Remember, “Welcome to Tyria. How can I assist?”
Be the solution, not the problem please.
Seems your post was simply directed at me rather than as any helpful piece to this topic. Seems you too can take your own advise. My expectations are for people to do a little legwork themselves before asking to be given everything (especially when it is minimal effort). But as mentioned perhaps those expectations are too high (a point I made and therefore your observation was redundant at best).
All said, I will not be replying to any further comments made on this subject as it is not helpful and I have no intention of exacerbating the issue. So feel free to respond if you have a need for getting the last word, otherwise happy gaming!
Thank you, and happy gaming to you as well.
I get sick and tired of elitist jerks, I can understand that you play your class well and have no issues, but really I can say I agree that some mechanics of echoes was overturned.
for jerkish elitism to apply, those encounters would have to qualify by actually posing any level of real challenge. Which they don´t. An “elitist” would brag how easy those things were for HIM, yet they were not easy in general. Do you notice how everyone said that these things were very easy? That is not bragging, that is not “elitist”. An average player can sleepwalk through every LS content. There is no denying that there are very bad players in general and very bad players in GW2. Does it suck to be told being a very bad player? I guess so. Still, this observation does not make an “elitist”. And there will always be a player bad enough to fail even the easiest content. What of him? Reduce the game to an autoplaying, movie-like experience?
Yes, some people that are not elite seem to feel the need to shout out how easy things are, implying how bad the other person is. I fail to see how this is positive or constructive.
Unbelievably this thread has not been locked.
