Those who only play for the rewards don’t seem to understand those who play for the fun of it. They give advice equivalent to “It’s not so bad, just close your eyes and think of England, it’ll be over quickly.” They don’t understand that some are not willing to prostitute themselves.

So what are you playing for, rewards or fun? …

I guess like most people I used to play for both under the old system. Under the new system last night I played strictly for fun … in another game.

I logged in, got my reward, looked at the pve dailies (I don’t do pvp or wvw. I don’t find them fun.) Decided I didn’t really want to get events in PoA or do the SB in Queensdale. So I logged out and played another game. So last night I played for fun.

Oddly enough, I had the exact same experience for the last two evenings. I have not logged on yet today.

As Vayne got me to admit a bit above this post, I’ll still craft some luck for the ectos, but the other rewards just don’t get me too fired up.

Just revert it is the best and least likely answer to the problem created when a major part of the game was radically changed, despite the fact that there was absolutely nothing wrong with the existing system, for absolutely no reason what so ever.

I . . . somewhat disagree about “nothing wrong”. I already posted why.

I agree that you may disagree.

So may I amend: In my opinion, there was absolutely nothing wrong with the existing system.

I mean, who was really unhappy with it?

I don’t actually know why, but once I got over the novelty of the new daily system, I really don’t even try. It might be that the rewards are not all that interesting.

I hope you’re at least doing the exotic crafting whenever that comes up. I don’t see how you can’t be interested in 3 ectos. lol

You have it. I craft me lucky charms for the ectos.

there’s a seventy page thread with a lot of shouting back and forth arguing not whether it’s broken or not . . . but how broken it is.

To be honest: there are tons of suggestions how to make things better.
I only suggested stuff once, the rest of the time I told about my experiences and what I expect to be future problems (that was 1 or 2 weeks after April 15th). Simply because I think that no matter what, locking traits behind content is a really bad idea, especially if you want your players to learn your game as that ain’t gonna happen this way.

I don’t care if there are suggestions on how to make it better. The majority of the arguing going on here is a few people in particular talking back and forth over the same ground, with a close second of what amounts to “update plz”/“ANet don’t care” posts.

I’m sorry, I should be more accurate. I do care the suggestions are there – that shows people actually care about this topic and are still thinking about it and putting things here in the hopes they’ll get noticed rather than throwing their hands up and resorting to using the absent devs as a punching bag while apologizing to Gaile for their tone and assuring her it’s not at her in particular.

But there’s a big problem with the suggestions, and it’s so simple it’s going to make me cringe when there is some movement on this issue. There’s so many suggestions beyond “just revert it” that I know there’s going to be tons of people still ticked off THEIR favorite suggestion wasn’t used, or if none of them are.

There’s a sort of sickened fascination going on in me waiting to see that day when there is a blog post about the attempt to try fixing this problem . . . and clocking the time until the massive fireball erupts from the forum server room.

It’s going to happen. I just wonder how big it’s going to be.

Just revert it is the best and least likely answer to the problem created when a major part of the game was radically changed, despite the fact that there was absolutely nothing wrong with the existing system, for absolutely no reason what so ever.

Of course not, but it’s a fact of life, especially in the western MMO market. People will always find some reason to complain. Now on the other hand, when you have several months of solid complaints at all hours of the day, it becomes less about the complaints and more about “oh… maybe we DID do something wrong”. I’d like to think they’re working on it. Hell, I haven’t even been here for most of it, and just as quick peek into the game earlier today shut me down entirely. Like so many people have said, this has gone on too long. If I was annoyed with it within a couple minutes (and I like I think I have a decent amount of patience), I have no idea how people have lasted months.

Ok, sorry I got you wrong.
The trait changes weren’t the only thing that was changed back in april, the crit damage nerf took a lot of the heat while the trait changes weren’t obvious to most people at first – that’s why this thread is a rather silent one.
But can I be honest: I only like the account wide colour unlock and the trait reset of the april 15th patch and dislike everything else, I still do. But explaining all of this would sound like a sour kitten and well, I don’t want to sound like that and it’s a long story actually. I still love this game but the april patch is dunno, still leaving bad feelings.

Took the words outa my mouth.

An activity is generally the daily random PvP-like mini-game that you find during festivals. There’s an NPC on the mystic plaza that has one that changes per day, as well as things like Bell choirs, winter wonderland jumping puzzle toypocalypse and snowball arena, currently going on with wintersday.

The daily rotation ones are:
Kegbrawl, southsun survival, crabtoss and zephyr sprint (I think)

I kind of knew that. Thx for the explanation.

What can I do with the hundred or so Box o’ funs I have and the toys from some outfits, like broomstick and such.

We use boxes of fun to mark stuff during guild events. Like if there’s a short cut in a guild rush we’ll drop a box of fun to mark it for people coming through.

Thx Vayne.

80s aren’t overpowered so there was no issue

You should enable your profanity filter immediately as it turns f words into kitten which is cute. While it’s not nice to be called kitten, this is an MMO and some people are just kittens. See how cute that looks?

Actually the filter in game just turns words into a series of dashes. The kitten is only in the forum.

I’m not offended by profanity so mine’s never been on. You learn something new every day.

Odd that this issue which began with a new player not understanding that 80s are down leveled and then confronted the players who did nothing wrong until they algedly swore at the OP (which would’ve been a non-issue if the OP had the profanity filter enabled) received a red post instantly.

Actually the OP is a returning player on a new alt.

But perhaps a returning player that has no 80’s.

No 80s = new

More or less.

Yes, and even a new and non-augmented alt will have account bonuses and magic find to make the whole thing much easier.

On the other hand, new accounts have that cool, rare level 0 armor. The set you get when you buy the game. High armor value and vitality. Get power weps and all should be good.

‘You’ is the operative word, as you are not a new player. A new player is not only not going to know any of that, let alone put it in practice, but they are not even going to be capable of running zero-defense gear through content and a game system they have just barely been exposed to.

Yes of course. Just pointing out that downscaled 80’s are not the only “menace” to new players.

And my “hypothetical” twink could even look like an 80 with cool weps, ’cause I have a lotta trans charges to throw around.

Personally, I enjoy running through the NPE with whatever I can loot. It’s really not that kittence you know what to do.

I see two concerns: The player who cleared the area… The first isn’t as big a deal as it might appear, or as it might be in other games. This is because the Level 80 is “down-leveled” to a level appropriate for the area. So s/he isn’t operating at true Level 80 powerfulness.

Is that really not a concern? Not even a little?

Only a month or two ago I was running Metrica finishing off my daily events, and there was this level 8 character, pretty sure it was his first from how he played, playing alongside me, a level 80 ele, and another level 80 ranger. I held back in hopes the level 8 could get credit, just lightning whipping the spawns (and I was built condi, so my pow damage was pitiful). But the ranger was mowing the spawns down with wild abandon, I honestly never saw the level 8 get a kill, and don’t think he got credit in spite of being there for the entire event. There’s no way that can be okay.

I can one shot almost any level 1-5 content on a level 2.

Because I can buy level 0 blue karma armor, and fill the slots with minor (cheap) power runes. I can buy 2 level blue weapons on the tp* (equip second in pvp lobby), and add minor sigils, bloodlust and speed. Power and vitality food. Power, armor and regen boosters. If I’m lucky, banner boosts as well.

Actually, you can run the whole starter zone with this set up.

  • you can buy blue karma weps as well, but they are soulbound. It’s nice to be able to grab a wep with your banker golem, to burn through the tutorial instance

if it helps some new people so be it.

Does it though? Does it really help new players? If it even confuses veteran players like me and make it harder for us then how the heck is this supposed to help new players?

I don’t know many new players, but I know one, and I know he is super confused with the NPE. He just couldn’t understand how/why he had so much trouble defeating a lvl 9 bandit as a level 9 guardian. He started blaming himself. I told him it wasn’t his fault and I told him about the “thresholds” and that at lvl 9 you’re really just lvl 4. Then he was even more confused.

I would really like to hear input from other new players who started playing after the NPE. I don’t think the NPE achieved what Anet hoped it would achieve.

I was just thinking on this. New players can not relate to the changes, as they are new players.

They have no clear idea of how seriously nerfed their gaming experience is. If they did, they would most likely quit in despair.

On the other hand, “vets” know exactly what has been lost in the whole leveling process. Our input here seems to revolve around how to avoid NPE and traits changes, by using our accumulated wealth and privileges. (Which kind of indicates to me that experienced players actually don’t really like the changes).

So, help every new player you find. They really need it.

The Internet isn’t old.

The internet is at least 50 years old. It is kitten well old at this point.

MMOs are 40 years old, btw.

Computers are also a 50 year business at this point. It’s not “new” anymore when you’ve hit half a century of existence.

The Internet, for the general public, really only became widespread when Windows 95 came out. So that’s a tad less than 20 years. Of course university students and computer geeks had access some years before that. Services like Compuserve/Prodigy/AOL just penned people in private servers until 95 came out and the public heard about “the Web”.

I kind of started in 1996 with a power mac 6100. My favorite game was Marathon.

Before that we had some Windows 3 stuff at work.

Has anyone noticed that there’s been very little variety in the dailies as well? We’re two weeks in and I’ve already seen most of the tasks repeated. I figured if they were going to restrict the number of things we could do, they’d at least give a good variation so the same things aren’t recurring every few days.

Yes, almost the same thing on every other day. Frozen Maw, krytan lumber, etc…

Very repetitious and a bit boring.

The problem in this thread is that players have been trained over the last couple of years to have to do dailies. Now the dailies have moved to a much more rational system, where you get AP only for doing specific tasks (this is what AP should be be for), which are entirely optional (as, again, all achievements should be).

We just need to re-train the players not to feel they need to do dailies. Since they don’t. Unless they think it’s worth it.

Some will “retrain” and some will lose interest.

I have no idea what the low level experience is, but to say that it is difficult to do most of new dailies, if you have at least one well appointed 80, is absurd.

So the starter zones are being over run by high level players. Kind of why they did away with champ trains if they are to be believed.

Honestly, I am indifferent about the new dailies, but I am certain that this thread is a waste of time. Just go over to the traits thread. Nine months of nothing. This is the way the dailies are now. Just adapt to it.

And for all of you saying “If you don’t like it, just quit playing.” That is absolutely what we don’t want to happen. Losing players will be bad for everyone, because if we lose enough players the game will no longer be sustainable.
So what you’re saying when you tell players “If you don’t like it, just quit playing.”, is actually “I want this game to fail.”

I have seen this happen before. In the end all of the “Elite” players drive out the casuals, but there are not enough of them to float the boat, and the boat slowly sinks.

@Banrigh: I have yet to take longer than 10 minutes to complete the dailies since they came out with the revamp.

are you doing ONLY PvE dailies???

No. Why should the game be balanced around your own self imposed limitations?

Indeed.

But with several 80’s and no self imposed limitations, 10 minutes seems a bit quick for all of the dailies to date.

Could you share your secrets? Also is that 10 minutes to do all of the dailies, or to reach completionist?

That’s just to get the daily completionist. Yesterday I was bored and decided to do a few more of them for fun afterwards, but generally I just do enough to get the AP. A few days ago I started tracking my progress, starting a timer once I am ready to start hunting. You can view that in this thread:

Seems like A-net is trying to herd us all to do what they want us to do, not what we choose to do. I for one will still chose to do what I want. I choose not to bother with the dailies anymore due to lack of options, unless it turns out to be something I wanted to do to begin with…not likely.

I also have limited play time…

And yet you had enough time to write this post. In the same amount of time it took you to write this you could have viewed a vista and checked off one of your daily tasks.

But no, you’d rather spend that precious time of yours complaining about it here.

Funny how that works.

Unfortunately – and I’d like to emphasize this because what you’re ignorantly saying about my life is so ridiculous – I can’t play GW2 at my full time job. But I can hang out on the forum during my breaks. Which is when I’ve written both of these posts. I have maybe an hour of play time per day if I really want to not spend much evening time with my family or never play a different game. I absolutely don’t agree that the five minutes my posts take are how long the new dailies take, but I’m sure it varies per person.

I understand if you don’t agree with my post (a lot of people have made decent points to the contrary of mine) but perhaps try addressing the content instead of attacking me via some straw man scenario. I know my life best: when I tell you my time is precious, sit down and listen.

On topic, I will say the change has forced me to PvP to get them done quickly and to avoid the zerging of zone-specific events. It’s alright but only really fun when guildies are willing to flop with me. I still prefer that the world boss daily be less specific. Other daily tasks of increased specificity are bound by zone, not time.

I don’t know if this will help but consider that at least some of the WvW achievements don’t necessarily actually involve any PvP. Check out those that call for you to capture ruins, claim land, or claim a camp. Its pretty normal to not ever even see another player, let alone an enemy player when doing those.

Well, maybe because of the dailies, but I had to kill several people to get the wvw claim achievments.

Why the hell is this thread even still going? Stop complaining about something so minimal, get this thread off the mainstream! >;/

Death by a thousand cuts. Many of us see it as part of a larger problem, and its the principle of the matter that bothers us.

And many people are just complaining because they dont understand the new system.

And many more people like the changes, or if they dont like them they still dont see this as anything close to the “larger problem”.

Youre entitled to your opinion but dont assume everyone else agrees and that the game should be molded around that.

Filling the forum with 1000 post whine threads whenever anything changes isnt a good thing for getting devs to pay more attention to community feedback.

I hate to take the cheap shot but…

These threads would not exist if the Devs actually paid any attention at all to community feedback.

I had a similar experience in Queensdale last night.

Hopefully it lasts beyond the novelty of introduction.

that may have actually sounded clever if there was only 1 zone in the game

I am trying to understand you. I am unclear as to the long term impact of these significant game changes. In the short run, the number of high level players routed to Queensdale in order to log a bit, made appropriate level content easier for zone appropriate people to achieve.

My feeling is that daily targets like this will lead to concentration of force at low level zones.

All I can say is that this is the first time in a long time where I logged in and just… didn’t feel like playing. I looked at my daily list and saw nothing that interested me. Felt miffed that ANet is pushing the laurel on me just to sign in, complained a bit on chat, and then logged back out.

I haven’t been this unmotivated since my original guild drifted away to other games, and now I sorta feel like I’m about to go the same way.

I know. Maybe we need to form a guild for people that just want to mess around a bit. Nowadayz I log in one of my 80’s, run around kill, harvest, event, whatever I run across.

Occasionally I need to sell a stack of stuff as my bank fills up. The 250 Chili Peppers was a big surprise. I had no idea they sold for so much.

Now what should I do with the gold?

Well, in today’s daily frozen maw event, there might have been 200 players on my server trying to do the even at once. People waned each other to turn cameras away once the auto-attack started, and I did that but my computer still crashed, and looks like I wasn’t the only one.

As an former WHO player, I feel your pain.

But if the idea is to funnel peeps into certain areas, so far so good.

How to tell if it’s “just the change” that you dislike or if it’s the actual system:

If this system had been in the game since day 1, would you still hate it?

Also, I’m pretty sure that if they had had this system in the game since day 1 and then went to the other one, there’d be just as many people whining that now they have to do more achievements to get the same amount of AP and less rewards. No, scratch that. I’m not “pretty” sure. I’m certain.

I’m not so sure that this new system would have worked as well with the original game.

But I know what you mean.
