Turret Engineers at the moment aren’t strong enough, but they should never be too strong as all builds that work with AI should be weaker due to less skill required. So I guess in fairness, they are fine atm. Make them require more skill and buff them.

there is a nice trait in the inventions traitline available for 10 points called cloaking device that turns you instantly invisible for 5 seconds when you are immobilised..just sayin
Firstly, you may not understand what is and isn’t effective for Engineers at the moment, but I’m referring to Meta PvP builds that support you, and your team. Firstly, the 5 seconds stealth causes you to stop contesting points. It also means you can’t take either Grenadier, Backpack Re generator or Speedy kits. Grenadier (and Backpack, but we need protection injection) take up the GM slot in both their lines, and speedy kits is obvious. We have no room to put 10 in that line just for that trait, it would only be applicable in a Turret build which is only good vs scrubs and has no place in team queue.
How about you use the overcharged shot of the rifle.. which cures you from that oh so dreadfull immobilise and also from cripple and chill
If you run a Celestial build with Rifle then this is definitely an option, but I wouldn’t want to use one of the sets hardest hitting skills just to escape, but you’re right it can.
How about rocket boots? Do the same just send you forward. Still not enough? How about the healing turret that cleans conditions like this pretty easily?
Rocket boots is a nice utility but with Bomb and Grenade kit being essential, we really only have a spot left for Elixir S or Elixir Gun. Healing turret is a waste, we shouldn’t use it just to cleanse immobilize and I beat so many Engineers who waste time doing that. Again Elixir C does provide a cleanse, but we have no room for it. Transmute also removes the condition before it’s applied, so I wouldn’t have to complain about immobilize in that case anyway would I?
At the end of the day, that condition is one very important reason why top teams don’t take Engineer, without baby sitting them. There are other reasons, but that is the one I chose in my original post. Rom’s going to Jail took Texbi in an ESL a while back, but to do so they had Helseth baby sit him and focus the necro the entire game. We can work, but you need to work around that.
You asked me if I play Engineer myself, but from your post I doubt your experience, so forgive me if you are. At the end of the day, I’m not wrong, and I do in fact play Engineer to the level that I can name only three other Engineers I wont beat 90% of the time in a flat 1v1. I wouldn’t normally come across kitteny, or act like I’m better than you but you discredit what I say in the first sentence of your post. Yes Engineers need to be baby sat; Necromancers will kill Engineers with ease, Pin Down will often cause an Engineers death, because within 1/2 a second they will be followed up with cc and a team target on your head.

Elixir C needs a shorter cooldown or a stunbreak added to it to be in a good position. Elixir Gun is superior, Super elixir cleanses one condition on land and another condition for each projectile fired in it, which your allies will do easily.

Hoelbrak runes provide a great bonus and help keep the conditions down.
Pirate is great also but since you WvW the 6th bonus will die too much.
Superior rune of Aristocracy is another amazing option for engineers. Same might as strength, might on heal (which we get on 15s cd), and condi damage.
(My fave rune in the game is Aristocracy, just remember it’s a bit pricey through CM)

Mesmer has the best sustained aoe heal over time, and no one can come close to it. But it requires you to waste time better spent fighting, using mantras over and over. In my opinion it just isn’t worth it, however you can make a pretty tanky shatter build in pvp with 0-4-0-6-4 with healing mantras and heal on shatter, great for 1v1 fights vs eles and other sustained classes. It’s fine, but not viable. But the important thing is to have fun, unless you want to be competitive in which case there’s only 1 mesmer build (in this case I wish you luck).

0-2-6-6-0 with bark skin and survival of the fittest. Gs and Sword/Dagger with storm spirit and spirit elite. Pirate runes with owl pet. I have been using this and it will pretty much win 80% of 1v1’s and 90% of 2v2s. Bare in mind this is for small fights, the 2v2s etc, it could possibly work far point but I’m not sure.

I think you could get something like this done Chaos. Just squeeze together pyros phantasm build guide with juricas gs/staff guide and you could pretty much make an equivalent for the current meta.

Ele has great sustain and can really turn the tide of a fight, they also provide great support on mid. Engie provides great pressure across multiple opponents and provides better team utility. Ele is an easier pick because an Engie needs more babysitting due to immobilize wrecking Engineers. They are both effective, but Ele is easier to get away with at the moment.

I have been playing pvp for about 2weeks and I’m only lvl 18, and 90% of the time I finish the match in first.
Personal score doesn’t mean anything. Arenas give most XP, but I advice you don’t enter them until you are experienced, as you will drag your team down and probably get flamed.

A 0-2-6-6-0 bird build with pirate runes can successfully beat every class and build combination 1v1 in the game (except a good S/D thief, normally the fight lasts 15 minutes or more hahah). Ranger is meant to be good at 1v1s so ignore what people say.

Am I playing a different game? Haven’t fought 1 turret Engineer in my last 20 matches, and all those I have fought suck, play the build to carry them, and die to my conditions very quickly. Where’s the problem? The build literally gets destroyed by my bombs or one warrior because most Engineers are stupid enough to stick all their turrets on the point rather than out at their 1500 range. I hope a dev sees this and realises it’s not the build but the players fighting them, lets face it Engineer is the second most nerfed class behind Ranger right now (to the people saying Engineer hasn’t been nerfed then you have only played this game for 6 months).

If two engies are insta win then 5 should get us tol2. But we all now the players know how to counter them there and theyll just roflstomp us
5 engies on a team would be pretty much impossible to beat for the simple reason that you would never actually be able to get to them through the sheer number of turrets. You could get 15+ turrets on a point. with an AOE limit of 5, the turrets would kill you before you could even hit all of them.
Also can someone explain how a condi necro can beat a turret engineer? I have no method of killing their turrets, I only have 3 condition transfers/cleanses 2 of which are limited to 5 conditions and the engineer can apply 8 conditions every 3 seconds indefinitely. I cleanse the first 8 conditions with my heal. I cleanse the next application with my transfer, do it once more with my other transfer and then I have them all again 2 seconds later and then I die.
Except the Turret build sucks and is only good at beating scrubs. A 3 kit Engineer or Celestial Engineer brings so much more to a team. Also I think you are doing something wrong, Signet of Spite + a few sceptre autos will kill an Engineer. Engineers have the worst (or at least second worst) condition cleanse in the game, they have sustained cleanse…burst them and watch them die. Also the rocket turrets shot can be dodged by strafing left to right. Secondly if the Engineer is using a turret build, their condition application sucks, at most they use 1 kit (bomb or grenade) as turret Engineers require Rocket + Rifle. Rocket also has a 50s cd if you kill it, but you are a necro so I can see you struggling there.

10 in firearms really isn’t worth it anymore, but it is a preference you can opt for if you would rather take the reduced weapon trait. You don’t need a stun breaker normally if you kite well, and you have tool kit block and the rifle 5 breaks immobilise also. Sigil of doom significantly cuts someone’s healing potential and adds to your dps, and I believe he uses pirate runes because they buff his might duration, but the parrot does a lot of sustained damage to someone when you aren’t attacking them yourself. Try things out and see how it goes. You can also drop toolkit and take elixir gun.

I’d love a GvG map that functioned similar to what you said, but added different elements. Say for example that each teams keep had an indestructible door, and to open it the opposing team had to collect a “flag” that spawns in the centre and bring it to the gate. Once the Gate is open that team has 30 seconds to do what they want, before everyone is ported out and the gate and “flags” respawn.

We all know NA is easier than EU (not that it’s hard to climb EU either, but I see lots of people in NA leaderboards with under 200 games). But leader boards count for nothing and we all know that, it’s about experience and skill ( I mean I’ve lost about 1600 games now…and I’m still in a positive win ratio :/).
Anyway to answer your question OP, Ranger condi removal is tied to their pet, and their heal. Bombs are your friends here, nuke the Ranger and the Pet and their condition removal goes down significantly, also wait till after their Healing spring. Remember that confusion hurts rangers a lot too, so save it up to try and get a lot on them. Also pistol 2 bounces, and as Rangers use pets you can get 4 confusion on them just from that skill.

False. Condition Necro counters Engineer in lots of ways, an Engineer should only engage a Necro if the Necro is already low, a flat out 1v1 will most of the time result in a Necro win.

The builds not bad, but you take some traits that seem to go to waste. Have a look at Naps celestial rifle build, you get more burst damage and sustain through the healing, and it seems to make better use of the celestial amulet. With your set-up I’d be more inclined to use turrets, but that could still be meh.

Only exception I’d say is P/D, easy to learn and play, but also P/D has its difficulties.
Well personally, Thief was the easiest class for me to pick up as I mentioned in my OP. None of the classes are hard, but on my thief I seem to escape every fight and I can down people very quickly with S/P.

In all fairness he mentioned thieves getting hated for examples such as heartseeker spam. Turret Engineer is the equivalent of this and it only works vs scrubs, like spamming heart seeker. I meant in my post about real builds, we’re talking 20066 thieves, 44006 mesmers or 60062 engineers. But I agree that turret engie is imba easy.

However thief isn’t an easy class relative to the others, it’s just it’s mechanics allow it to bypass what every other class has to deal with, I mean you can actually use HS 4 times in a row. People get frustrated at the thief class because of this, once you learn it you can counter thieves but people really cba to learn. Also the top thieves in S/D wont ever die. They will just run if they are losing which is irritating.

and you spent most of your time being outside of leaderboard ranking, even tho every one knows how easy it is to get in.I only came back to the game about 2 months ago and got on the leaderboard. Slowed down on the soloQ and slipped off it. Its amazing how many of this forum have a little clique and you continually move the goal posts each time.

Besides which any time someone has an opinion people quickly check the leaderboard to see if that opinion has any value. You cannot actually judge the issue unless a top player tells you what to think. Its sad really.
I must say the gw2 pvp elite crew are perhaps the most vile part of this community. Everyone is kitten and worthless unless your top (whatever number they are upwards). One day this game will just be a handful of players facing a few others and you will have no one to blame but yourselves.
This is because people think the leaderboards mean something when they don’t, in one day I went from 400 to 90% by losing 1 game. The real “elite” participate in the weekly ESL tournaments and don’t spend time on the forums slagging off anyone not in the top 100.

for me now is clear now, and this is the reason i see a lot of bears and shark rank running around whit MM, Turrets and PU builds. Dont make me mention hambow.
To be fair it still takes a decent amount of time to reach the bear/shark rank so if they are still playing those builds at that point then I think something went wrong before farming ranks. However those builds are effective at beating scrubs.

I am exclusively a PvP player and I believe we are the least cared for gamemode and that we need exclusive rewards. But not a mini. I will just delete it when I get it, maybe store it but I doubt it. The mini means nothing to me and many others, and it also attracts a lot of non pvp players into the tournament, which will make my time easier…but at the same time doesn’t necessarily help the competition. But then again attracting people to PvP is another story.

I and a few others in the PvP corner have started using basically what is the Ranger equivalent of the Thief S/D build. Greatsword and Sword/Dagger with pirate runes and air and fire sigils. Basically 2 birds each hitting for 2k while you evade and your odd attacks proc 5k worth of sigil damage. It’s amazing.

I know who you are, and I’ve seen you play “Tricking Trix” (something like that) and all you ever do is QQ and then proceed to ignore any comment whereby someone attempts to help you. If I get ganked, I will run away, obviously. But in a fair 1v1, as you frequently do in Angz server, I will take Mirror Images and when I play well I beat them. Nothing else to it. I also happen to know that Chozen, Red, Atrastea, Sizer, Sensotix and Uni theory don’t suck and aren’t rank 1. I don’t regularly beat them as S/D does counter mesmer, but I have beaten each one of them, and each time due to a mirror burst. Take advice or leave it, I don’t really care as I know I’m not the best Mesmer, hence the joke in my signature, but you failed to realise that also. Play PU condi if you are so contempt on beating thieves buddy.

S/D thieves 500% counter mesmers at the moment. You can beat one! but if you beat an S/D thief then he should uninstall. The build allows them to constantly gap close on us, which is one of our main forms of defence, and in their opening sequence they can drop us to 50% and poison us. That is why it’s hard to fight them, because you cannot predict instant teleports, so you have to engage them first…which is a stupid idea, or predict how they will react.
I have now started raking mirror images just soI can wreck thieves who teleport away with a blink shatter combo, it is my main goal to beat them whenever at the moment
. Also just duel top S/D thieves in the duelling servers, because despite what the “pros” tell you on here about which builds counter them! good S/D thieves wont lose to any Mesmer build,
my experience tells me what this lame , why ? u wasting 2 breakstun (which not always ready) even in melee use mirror images and f1 this is also waste (most of time thief evades , stab evade stab evade ) + low damage if u dont have tonn of might

Full SB thief will not kill me. I don’t initiate with that combo, but I will often end fights with it or a forward phase retreat mirror image combo. In fact this has helped me beat thieves a lot more than any other utility. Portal, Blink and Mirror Images is my current go to setup unless vs a condi heavy team. Mirror Images does work very well vs thieves and your experience cannot be very much, because it has helped me astronomically vs competent and “top” thieves.
EDIT: You don’t use it during their evade frames, and you can easily out kite shortbow with Greatsword 1 and 5.

Engineer is wholly viable in sPvP and tPvP, I use a condition build unlike the influx of new engineers and I do it extremely well. The top teams don’t take an engineer because of the desire for power oriented specs or because they would rather have an ele, but an engineer can handle himself decently still.

I’ve done the same with a 21-game streak. I kid you not, I lost the next 10, won 1, and lost another 9.
What really kittens me off is when I’ve previously been in the leaderboards, and I’m now losing against pugs when 4 of my team are pre made.
Part of it is tactics. My team normally goes with a 1/2/2 or a 1/3/1 strategy to begin with to counter the standard 1/4/0 or 2/3/0 comps that pugs normally run for simplicity, but we know when to change our strategy and go more defensively or offensively. One strategy won’t win every game, so the best you can do is learn to read an opposing team’s strategies and attempt to counterplay. So long as you’re controlling the fight you shouldn’t lose very many games. Having everyone in TS with very good map knowledge is an essential if you really want to win a lot of games.

Your job is to put pressure on mid and thieves job is to eliminate that pressure.
What if I told you you should only be at mid to quickly down squishy classes. A Mesmers role in a team fight is boon stripping and spike damage, you shouldn’t be hanging around mid to add pressure. Mesmer and Thief to be honest both have the same role, pressure far and the enemy roamer, which unfortunately will be a thief.
