Very similar to the build I run. Have you considered taking two spiders and Malicious training for a bit more soft control; the dogs work well for on demand (if it works) hard cc still of course. Perplexity runes now have an 8 second internal cooldown on the 6 skill, which is great! Considering rangers don’t have many dazes it doesn’t affect us, but it stops warriors spamming them!
You can find me in PvP | I normally answer PMs
You’re running a spirit build which is extremely passive to start with. You have no reliable condi removal either, literally 4 every 10 seconds. Those 4 could be vulnerability, weakness, immobilise and crippled. Rangers active condi removal is pretty slacking anyway, you need to burst him down but you’re in dire gear with 2 spirits and axe. That’s not enough condi burst or power burst to get him down.
If you’re a human consider Prayer to Kormir, it cleanses 3 conditions every 40 seconds which is on par with Elementalists own cleansing fire. Healing spring removes conditions every pulse also. Necros are possibly our hardest opponents, not much I can say to you as it depends on the fight.

Everything I else I bring a warrior, guard, or mes depending on party/dungeon.
This is why people don’t want a ranger. It seems unfair but when four other people want to get it done as efficiently as possible for them, they’ll pick a class which does it better for them.
Us Rangers aren’t cutting it unfortunately, we can do well if we try, we’ve seen [DnT] do a 5 ranger lupicus…but not everyone is them. Ranger appeals to new players and it will always have that reputation, we’re like Warriors in that regard, but warriors do it better.

I run two spiders and I don’t have a problem with -98% warriors at all; I have my interrupts and dazes alongside that and the ability to kite however, I use a condition and power hybrid. I don’t think 2 spiders will work well at all in a power build, Drake Hound and Wolf would be a better combo, you have 2 knockdowns, a fear and an immobilise if you so please.

It says it was a downed skill. So we actually have a better version of it:

I know, but I mean as an actual skill. It would make a better shout than search and rescue for sure!

There is a “good ranger”. Its one who has good situational awareness, supports the team as much as he can, doesn’t die and helps get the fight going along fast and smoothly. Problem is, the ranger is like the warrior, they’re the “easy” classes to pick up. While this is true for solo pve it means a good 60% of the Ranger playerbase hasn’t got a clue, of course they wont be coming on these forums either. We’re the hardcore nutters that still stick to the class for some odd reason

Anyway, due to the current games meta and balance changes, I don’t see how these would be unreasonably overpowered to have back now (since our nerfs anyway).

Quick Draw, Skirmishers Gambit and Carnivorous Appetite are absolutely amazing and would seriously help restore the class. In my opinion there is no way classes like the Warrior should be more mobile than us.

You forgot perplexity hybrid ranger. Pure trolling that build, so much fun.

In team fights it’s very effective with boonstripping, mass vulnerability and aoe burst. It’s also massively more fun that summoning a phantasm and watching him hit them for you.

If you don’t like the trait don’t use it. I for one use it. we are not other classes trying to compare traits on a one for one bases doesn’t give a true picture.
What are you saying? This change would give our class a well needed buff and give us diversity. It would mean you’d have the same effect with 10 less points. And we should compare with other classes when compared to some we are underpowered and not wanted, us Rangers really have to show we’re good.

I like it, especially the outnumbered fights. I don’t know what it is, maybe it’s the ability to disengage but I find outnumbered fights a lot harder on my ranger compared to mesmer and thief. Also I like how you use axe in both hands, obviously it’s not beneficial but fun to watch, just hope you don’t bump into a PvP’er thats roaming!

If you really want to use the upcoming patch to the maximum WvW zerg effectiveness you should really be traiting for the new bark skin that cuts damage by half at 25% health instead of 1/3.
Thats mainly a PvE trait. If you have 20,000 hp then this will proc at 5000 hp. At that low health it is really only beneficial if you are running a regen/heal based build. It’s mainly good at stopping attrition based attacks. Conditions still eat through it and big attacks would too. 5k CnD + 7k backstab. 50% off of those is still 6000.
It’s great for PvE players, really makes ranger the best champ soloer when leveling with bears and all that, but the average WvW group wont have much trouble.
EDIT: Interesting to see Hollands take on it, and I can see that being viable. Problem is that is a full tank build, people would just leave you tbh. I’d like to see where this trait could go.
EDIT2: Got me really interested for a second there, look at this. Hollands idea could be hilarious. http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fMAQNAR8YnEVkFcXQKWAaZAp9ITskz7VYWcPGFUJEPZUNTC-j0CBYfJDZUQmgAiEBmIAInrIasV1FRjVpjIqWnEz6DzjjIqWKgUWGB-w

Elementalist will benefit the best. Written in Stone If I am correct allows them to keep passive effects of signets when they activate them. And they have 4 signets.

Spiders are in my opinion THE best pets you can have. Alright, I’m biased, but their ability to lock opponents down is AMAZING . Here is a fight I had with a warrior, he was a pretty rubbish one (bless him) however it locked him down for ages. I did cheat a bit, started with entangle which he stood in…., but the spiders did most of the work. He was stuck there for around 20 seconds first time then another 7 after I re-immobilized him and swapped pets.

This depends on the build we each run I guess xD?
1. Ranger (I feel bad for putting it here but let’s face it most other rangers have no clue)
2. Warrior
3. Thief
4. Elementalist
5. Mesmer
6. Guardian
7. Necro
8. Engineer
Now…since I run a hybrid build I guess my list will be slightly different but its not far off. I struggle vs Condi classes, lacking active condi removal, can’t win them all though.

When I’m out roaming outside the ruins, I haven’t yet found anyone who volunteered to fight me 1v1. However, round by the wind mill I have had some amazing duels with some ROS and Drakkar. Fought a Mesmer and Thief the other day (poor thief was up leveled) so I didn’t stomp them. I like to think when I don’t stomp they appreciate it ;
Makes me think that the fight was appreciated.
This is, why I roam.

Wow, a lot of bad vibes going on in this thread. Go Go FOW! (At least we have high spirit). It’s actually been great fun with some huge zergs, been putting my oh crap legging it skills to the test on my ranger. If you see a ranger with Toxic shoulders it’s me, I often run about in ROS or drakkar lake looking for warriors or thieves to fight in ruins. Had 2 amazing duels with a thief over the weekend, one ended in us both down the other I barely won.

A condition built ranger is one that uses traps and possibly a torch. if you don’t use traps, you should not be pushing for strong condition damage.
I use 1 trap and greatsword/shortbow.

As said above use what you want to, but don’t get into the mindset that the Ranger is a “hunter” class. They kept the name from GW1 for the sake of it, we’re more or less “Rangers” in the real world sense, kinda like warriors that are one with nature. Our melee weapons are some of our best weapons, but of course if you don’t have 2 bows you can’t adapt
You can find me in PvP | I normally answer PMs
Does a mesmer using a GS or a sword make sense?
Does a guardian using a scepter and a focus make sense?
Ahem, Mesmers from Guild Wars and lore were duelists. Imagine them as fencers who used magic to take advantage of their opponents, so yes it does. And the Guardian, again from lore, derive from the Paragons and Monks of Guild wars, so again them having scepter and focus is fine, as they came from a caster.
Rangers have a Nature Magic line so give us a staff. I also want main hand dagger.

Alright I may be pretty useless in a zerg, but I can flip sentries and camps, and I’ve yet to find a class that I struggle with in a 1v1 (except that little asura engie….ooooh).
Oh, and for the GvG spot as you are asking, maybe we don’t bring anything unique, but neither do engineers, we can both function the same (not to the same extent for us unfortunately) we can bring it all. I find ranger is an excellent class at locking people down, that thief picking on your ele? Just imobilise him for 20 seconds while you load conditions and swords to his face. We’re not the perfect warrior some people would like, but we’re diverse.

You’re built like a condition build with your traits, but lacking enough pieces to make it work as a power hybrid (celestial). I also run Sb/Gs and find I have enough survivability as well as condition damage, and the first step you could do to get that yourself is actually taking 30 points out of beastmastery. The reason for this is because Sb and Gs are very good control and kiting weapons, but not as such for a bunker, I’d move the 30 points into marksmanship and skirmishing and go for a more offensive build if your stuck with those weapons.
I guess I am looking for a BM bunker build that uses Sb/GS. Thank you.
If you really want to go for a BM bunker then there are two main builds going for it;
Natures Voice x/x/30/x/30
Boon Tank ranger x/x/30/30/x
Both of those regen builds are pretty cookie cutter and work well in a lot of situations, the first one is from Xsorus’ youtube channel though, couldn’t find a site link.

The next gen of rangers better go zerker, knights, celestial or I will hurt myself. Signet builds with apothecary gear seem so boring to me, too passive. And I cannot kill thieves quick enough and killing thieves to me is a big factor of my play grins evilly.

Wise words from Tribio, coincidentally one of my servers better rangers. Seriously, don’t give up, we all struggle sometimes but keep on fighting. Also, I too love the feeling of killing people that claim us as easy kills. A warrior engaged me today with his healing signet and hammer. I cackled inside as I killed him.

Entangle pulses 1 second of immobilize per second and stops when the vines expire. Entangle doesn’t stack immobilize at all, however combined with another immobilize, be it muddy terrain or spider f2’s etc it will stack and become irremovable for the duration of the first immobilize. It wont affect our elite but our combined abilities, I fought a terribad warrior today and I kept him on the same spot for 20 seconds.

Rangers have to adapt. It’s what we’re good at, especially as all our good rangers have gone away, survival of the fittest and all that.
Anyway, engineers are pretty tough matches for anyone. Due to their variety of skills they are the hardest class to counter well for anyone imo. If he’s using grenades then remember that they don’t hit very hard at all, infact they only unload conditions due to how low their raw damage is 90% of the time. Pressure is key here, you want to lock him down somehow and get into melee range, torch 4 and 5 would help with that.
Rooted for an eternity, sounds about right. With the new immobilize stacking you can get rooted forever, but note you can also do the same to him. If you root him with a spider and then use entangle he gets 2 stacks on him, and entangle pulses every second so shucks for him he can’t cleanse it :p (Technically he could cleanse the entangle, still be stuck with spider f2 then another entangle pulses, of course he could just destroy the roots but…)
Also engineers that use grenades generally have bad mobility, if he was bombing you from a long distance just try and run, engies only have a few good gap closers like rocket boots but that is mainly used with bomb builds for the smoke field.
Mesmers should be really easy for you too, but I come from playing a mesmer before ranger. Just dodge/evade the phantasms and stick to him with your sword auto, he’ll run under pressure then you can burn him, mesmers atm have rubbish condi cleanse.

I don’t care about WvW players having finishers, I love roaming in WvW (Only roaming, hate zergs). But I don’t get the comment that WvW players are better in combat than sPvPers. I main ranger and I always thought I was a very skilled one as I barely lost fights roaming in WvW, then I went to a sPvP and got my kitten kicked. I for one believe that (other than the farmers) sPvP players have a much better situational awareness and skill in combat, just from dueling some in servers.

Anyway, ranger is an excellent dueling class, don’t know where you heard otherwise. By the sounds of it is a boring bunker build which sadly is one of our few effective builds. Am I the only ranger who hates how our good builds are overly passive?
You can find me in PvP | I normally answer PMs
Warhorn as a weapon isn’t actually a support weapon as such. Think of it as like a warrior, good self buffing capabilities with a DoT that crits a lot, but it’s mainly for damage. The 4 skill applies wonderful pressure on an opponent (remove LOS from it srsly) and the 5 skill….as you said it is lackluster. I would decrease the cooldown and leave the boons as they are tbh

I love using longbow for zergs, but there I run 20/0/30/20/0 for a more tanky setup, cleave with great sword and pew pew with bow. Also if you want to be an kitten and dont care if you die go full zerker sword/axe with quickening zephyr and gank light armor classes with it. I don’t seriously recommend this at all
You can find me in PvP | I normally answer PMs
First off, the Regen builds generally are as tanky as rangers can get due to how passive they are enabling you to do other things, plenty of evades etc. Anyway, if your content on a build I recommend you go to PvP and replicate it there, it may seem odd but it does wonders for roamers skill levels.
In WvW things are unbalanced, and most of the time the players aren’t necessarily as skilled as those in PvP. I would recommend going to some dueling servers and practicing against classes you struggle against and learn from them. Nothing helps you fight warriors roaming in WvW more than training against rank 50 warriors in PvP. As far as I know theres 3 big 1v1 servers (Swims, Angz and Sensotix’s).
You can find me in PvP | I normally answer PMs
You guys don’t know the meaning of pain. Fissure of Woe here, bronze tier with a hefty WvW population of 12. Alright, we do have more than that but in the new league system we get our kitten kicked.
Anyway, I love roaming. I use a shutdown 10/30/30/0/0 build with Greatsword/Shortbow and jungle spider and cave spider. I just chain imobilise people with a mix of knights/celestial gear to give me about 2800 attack and 700 condi damage. Works wonders against the current warrior meta, and it isnt one of those boring regen passive builds, you have to work to get it to work.
High risk, high reward. Sometimes I put on a more condi setup with perplexity runes and roll along with Xsorus Dazer build depending on the encounter. Trust me though, any build similar to that works amazing as a duo with a warrior.

I actually also really love our shortbow at the moment, especially for its low skill cooldowns and kiting abilities. Longbow is where the problem lies in my opinion, no one cares about barrage, you drop it on a zerg and maybe 2 uplevels move. I’d really love a burning arrows trait, or barbed arrows etc etc.

What we need is this.
I’d throw away spirits or shouts or both to have a working version of this.
Thank you so much! Gw2 Dev’s NEED to look back at the GW ranger abilities. “Rangers can adapt to any situation.”, then let us do this.
You can find me in PvP | I normally answer PMs
Sadly our bows got overlooked a long time ago. Alright, they are getting some attention which is great, but we need bow traits to be combined and some new ones added. As of right now as many others have stated for Longbow to be effective we need 50 trait points. That leaves 20 for everything else, a measly 20.
Ranger needs these abilities again;
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Burning_Arrow
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Melandru%27s_Shot
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Pin_Down
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Read_the_Wind
I know with Gw2’s system these couldn’t work as skills necessarily, but having the said effects as traits would be brilliant. Burning arrow and Melandru’s shot as trait %’s could work great (unless they turn into Dhuumfire). Also, out of context but we need more condi cleanse. Vote for http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Antidote_Signet.

I 100% agree with this, our utility in PvP is slacking at the moment and changes like this could really help improve the class. Send your pet to far with guard for example while you attack anyone that gets near it/distract them.
You can find me in PvP | I normally answer PMs
Thanks for the support, but we actually need 30 trait points to make traps viable right now.
I was referring to other lines also, but I 100% agree that our need of 30 in lines to make traps viable, or to Condi cleanse is silly. Hopefully someone will see this…we can hope.
You can find me in PvP | I normally answer PMs
Spot on with the trap suggestions. It’s ridiculous that we need a minimum of twenty points in a trait line to make our utilities worthwhile.
I’d also love to have more flow with some of our weapon skills. For example the longbow, everyone wants to change the fifth ability on it. I have two ideas for it;
A) Make it castable on the move and improve its damage, or pulse speed.
B) Remove the current skill and give it to us as a utility, “Call Barrage” is more feasible than firing one hundred arrows on our own anyway. Make the new 5 skill something that makes us feared on the battlefield rather than some quaggan stew. “Vital Strike” as I shall call it for the time being should be something well telegraphed like the warriors killshot. So it doesn’t become OP with our signets(150% damage anyone?)give it a 2 second charge or something, I just want a skill that hits like a brick and synergises. Imaging using the 4 to make room, stealthing with 3 to charge up a 7k single target ability.
Good ideas anyway, us rangers need some love. Especially our utilities, diversity and pets.
Edit: typed on a tablet, might of made some mistakes.
You can find me in PvP | I normally answer PMs
I only play power ranger in WvW and PvP with Greatsword Sword/Axe (WvW) and Shortbow Sword/Axe PvP. I just want to point out that the sword is an amazing weapon, and I wouldn’t trade it for any other sword (except mesmer sword 2, give me something like that on an OH sword anet!). The auto chain is unforgiving for some people, but you can turn the auto attack off until you get used to it, but combined with quickening zephyr it provides some of the best dps in game, and the hornets sting/monarchs leap combo has saved my kitten many times.
Axe 4 in my opinion is brutal;
-In Dungeons it can hit 3 times for 18k damage total
-In PvP and WvW I can pull people into a QZ auto burst chain w/ immobilize from pet
Axe 5 does have some problems that I wont argue with, however it blocks projectiles so for WvW or Dungeon runs you can pop it on a healing spring and stack the group to mitigate them for 5 seconds and proc healing. Personally I’d like either a damage increase for it, or the ability to move while using it like warrior axes.
Give power builds a shot, GS and Sword can escape any fight in WvW, and they aren’t as boring as throwing traps and torches in an attrition fight.
You can find me in PvP | I normally answer PMs
I don’t see what the arguments above are about other than humoring us. The OP said gear doesn’t matter unless you speed run. Which is mostly true, but people still ask for zerker gear. But why would you not run zerker gear? Dungeon content doesn’t get too tricky once you have done it a few times, and zerker is the optimal gear to achieve the top dps.
PVT gear may give you high stats when you eat foods, take buffs and screenshot your character in WvW with your guard leech etc to improve it further, which is fine, but it still wont achieve more dps than someone in zerker… and when it comes to speed running that’s all that counts.
Also, just gunna put this out there, Gear DOESN’T make a build, skill and traits do. Sure you can be a ranger or ele in full zerker, but unless you start taking the % damage traits you are doing more harm than good in a speedrun.

Ascended was never meant to be part of the game, however Anet wanted the end game gear to be hard to get. They wanted people to spend months rather than days getting Exotics, so they added ascended after. There shouldn’t be any new gear for the next however many years after this. So err, deal with it.
*Another note, Ascended is mainly for hardcore people, if you want ascended (top tier gear) you are not a casual player, so why complain.

Well, EU tier 9 has completed it all now. But I have to thank [TKS] Tequatl killing squad for their time, the entire guild is guesting servers to teach people how to do it.
Have a huge amount of people guest over and then do it for you, is not doing it. That’s getting it done by someone else
Having 50 people come over to help isn’t them doing it considering the other 100 of us at the site anyway. But for a small pop server, it’s beneficial considering all the people interested now know how to do it. So we can do it again. Anyway when did this become a competition? It’s about the community getting together to kill a boss
