Is Anet seriously that hurting for money it needs to nickel and dime us like this? Seriously, it just looks pathetic, especially for a server transfer where it would be in there best interest to have people in the highest populated servers or the next one after full, and it should be free. This isnt going to help the game.
Neither are you with all your ridiculous posts.
As far as I’m concerned they should have just implemented a monthly fee and be done with it. Every time they try to make any money to keep this game going for us someone has to complain. Heaven forbid that a company tries to make a profit. Oh no…the sky is falling.
Get over it! You had almost 6 months to settle on a server (for free) and now the complaints come out because some people can’t be bothered to take care of themselves.
Pathetic.
Guess not. O’well. Have fun!
I’m surprised that no one has been sticking up for the Elementalist. With my condition build my d/d ele has access to 7 out of 11 conditions. That sounds like a lot to me. Am I wrong about this?
Oh, and I do that with AoE madness so it’s conditions spread across the entire battle field…not just on one mob.
Who really cares about this? Honestly?
In the grand scheme of things can’t we just agree to let this one go?
I edited it out but didn’t really see the need. If anyone was capable of reading the response after mine they would have known the truth. Really wasn’t that big of a deal though. Really.
Yak’s Bend…..
Huh? Not only is YB North American, but it’s not a the NA RP server anyway – Tarnished Coast is.
Yes, I know. That’s why I owned up to the mistake already but thanks for bringing it back up.
I had Yak’s Bend on the brain at the time of typing and didn’t double check that what I actually typed was correct. My apologies. It’s not that bad though. It was just a mistake, someone else came in with the assist, I apologized…no need to grind it in.
Suddenflame makes very valid and reasonable points. Yet, I still miss it…with all the rendering issues and more frequent / longer downtimes. If I had to choose I’d pick a seamless world.
I understand the reasoning better but in the end (more myself) I prefer the greater immersion while in game than having less immersion more reliably.
Since dyes fall into the category of “purely cosmetic,” grinding for dyes isn’t a contradiction of the manifesto.
Not entirely correct. While, yes, grinding for things that are cosmetic is a good way to keep people playing, grinding itself is somewhat contradicting their manifesto.
In a blog post (and I do not have the exact wording here) ANet has said that they want to largely do away with the grind. They may not want to eliminate it, but they do not want you to have to grind a lot of boring things to reach small pockets of enjoyment. Whether you enjoy grinding or not changes if this has been successful to you personally.
While you are correct in stating that purely cosmetic grinds do not effect your ability to play the game (and I will admit that even this is debatable, as the end game of GW2 is all cosmetic based), they are still a grind, and if found boring, are contradicting the original statement by ANet as to what Guild Wars 2 would be.
Simply because you do not agree with someone, do not think that they are overusing a word, or using a statement incorrectly. Just because it is not a problem to you personally does not mean it is not a problem. (And, perhaps a big one, as many of the people who have stopped playing this game have cited grinding as one reason. Whether that is true or they just feel like saying it because it is a buzzword topic at the moment is also debatable.)
Their original statements where always about combat…not cosmetics. They never said anything that would indicate to a reasonable person that there wouldn’t be any sort of grind. Therefore, I still believe that those words are being highly misused, misunderstood, misrepresented, etc…
TLDR: misused, misunderstood, misrepresented, etc…
You weren’t put into a world but rather chose a world. You could have waited.
Having said that, there is always guesting as mention. Or…you can’t possibly be that high of level so you might want to consider wiping the slate clean and starting fresh on your friends server.
I’m starting to get the impression that the use of the word “grind” on these boards is overused, misrepresented, or both. Anyone else starting to feel that way?
Oh, and same goes with the word “manifesto” as far as I’m concerned.
it’s “comparable” but “somewhat less efficient.”
No need to change the wording around in the quote…it explains it just fine.
Also note that you have a good chance to get your level of items from any mob in the game that you kill. So if you’re 80 and kill a level 25 mob you still have a good chance at a level 80 item drop.
Kind of…
“A scaled down character continues to receive experience and loot that is comparable to what he would receive at his real level, but it is somewhat less efficient for obtaining experience and items than playing level-appropriate content.”
However you do have 2 days to get the 2 monthly’s done. Then when it resets you can do it again for a total of 40 in a short span. That isn’t too bad I guess I’ll fix the vid in the meantime.
What do you mean by this? If it’s that you get laurals for January then that would be false.
lol don’t listen to him. The EU RP server is Piken Square.
You can get a list of events happening on both unoffical RP servers by going here:
Oh my lord…I knew this and that is what I meant and thought that I said. I didnt’ even realize that I typed the wrong thing until I looked again. I really need to have my head examined. Seriously.
EDIT OUT FOR CLAIRITY!
(edited by BioFringe.7945)
I showed him that exact same PSU and I even championed for it just to save him some money. Part of the problem was that he wanted a better system than the one I built for a friend last year so since the friend had 650w he “needed” a 750w. I agree with you though, it would have been better to have saved the money instead of wasting it on something that he’ll never fully appreciate.
Thanks again to everyone that has responded. Very helpful indeed and much appreciated.
We ordered his parts today. I explained everything to him the best I could but ultimately the final decisions were his to make. I believe that he did rather well considering his budget and personal needs/expectations in mind. He’ll probably end up needing to upgrade a few components within the next year or so but nothing too major I would suspect.
Here’s what he ordered in case anyone’s interested:
AMD Phenon II x4 965 Black 3.4ghz
Gigabyte Ga-970A-D3 AM3+ Motherboard
G.Skill Ripjaw 8gb (2×4gb) DDR3 1600 RAM
Seagate Barracuda 1tb 7200rpm SATA 6.0 HD
HIS iCooler Radeon HD 7770 1gb 128-bit GDDR5 GPU
Cooler Master HAF 922 case
Corsair CX750 PSU
Lite-On 24x DVD Writer
Microsoft Keyboard (cheap)…will be replacing with a Logitech G510 soon
Gigabyte GM-M6880 Laser Gaming Mouse
Windows 7 64bit
He ended saving over $150 via Newegg sales and $20 via an online promo code + free shipping on everything. Not sure if it’s a bonus or not but he was also given McAfee AntiVirus Plus 2013 & Sleeping Dogs at no charge as well as some cheap RAM that he’ll probably donate to the trash bin.
Thanks again for all the assistance. Game on!
You bet I would.
I’ve really been enjoying GW2, is it perfect ? No. But it is a lot of fun.
Exactly how I fell about it. Actually, I’d buy 3.
Not sure if this has been mentioned but the best thing that TESO has going for it is Matt Firor from Mythic who was one of the original devs of DAoC back in the day. It’s not like there’s absolutely no MMO experience within this project.
But yes, all MMOs have bugs that riddle them for years if not for their entire life span but to compare GW2 to a game that’s not even out yet doesn’t even make sense.
EDIT: Nevermind, just saw this mentioned within the thread…not sure how I missed it. Guess I was reading too fast for my brain at this late hour.
(edited by BioFringe.7945)
Cool. We’re not big into PvP / WvW so that shouldn’t be an issue for him. I might venture into that area of the game at some point but my system can handle it so that shouldn’t be an issue. He will most likely casually PvE for a couple hours a week at most.
Another question that has come to mind…what is up with all these motherboards now a-days having built in graphics? A year or two ago that was considered something to stay away from but it seems that the number of such MBs have flooded the market. Should I still stay away from them all together, skip a dedicated GPU, or don’t worry about it and disable the onboard if the MB he chooses happens to come with one?
I don’t want him wasting money out of his tiny budget if an onbaord is acceptable at this point and I certainly don’t want to get an onboard graphics MB if it’s going to cause conflicts with a dedicated card.
Very nice. Now I can consider shaving some money off via the power supply since there’s a good price difference between 450 and 750w.
I would love to get him an Intel and I’m trying my best to fit it in..I’m putting together an AMD and an Intel system on paper so he can decide for himself if the price difference versus his budget is small enough for him to fork over some extra cash. I have an Intel i7 and an AMD Phenon II x4 955 Black system…both run GW2 on max without any problems but I love the Intel for the upgradability path and well, everything else that’s great about Intel chips.
BTW: Is it safe to assume that you can still put an Nvidia card into an AMD build MB/CPU system or do I need to stick with an AMD/ATI card? I’m considering the Nvidia GTX650 or the Radeon HD 6770. When I built my current systems I stuck with Nvidia for the i7 and went with the HD 5770 for the AMD so I’m not quite clear as to whether or not you can mix-n-match.
Do you mean the entire UI as in Chat and everything?
If so then look in Options – Keybindings – User Interface – Show/Hide UI
Thanks Zerk.
I’ve bookmarked all of the links provided to me so far and I’m not excluding anything from consideration at this point. I really do appreciate the insights.
That’s a decent system with the i5…if I could just get him to commit to a case at that price point. He fell in love with a $90 case and I haven’t been able to talk him out of it…yet. Also, is 450w enough power. I have 850w for my i7 and I know that’s a bit overkill but I was thinking either 650 or 750?
Thanks again for the response. I just checked all the cpus mentioned here on http://www.cpubenchmark.net/ and it appears that they are all so close to each other. I’m going to try to figure out his overall cost and see if he has any wiggle room in the budget while I continue to research these chips.
Thanks again.
No worries Crit. I wasn’t trying to attack you or defend the devs. Just wanted you to realize that the Experience Curve and Leveling Curve are two separate items.
In essence…GW2 does in fact have a somewhat flat leveling curve after level 15 as it should take you the same amount of time (number of mob kills) per level as long as you’re killing mobs your current level. If you need 50 level 30 Moa to reach level 31 they you should reach level 32 by killing 50 level 31 Moa. You can take time out of the equation completely if you like and the curve is still flat.
The devs were referencing the leveling curve…not experience curve.
Thank you for the info. I’ve added that one to the list and I’ll do some more research before he comes over tonight expecting to order everything.
@Crit
You’re confusing level experience with level curve. The graph that you linked shows the level experience but doesn’t take into other factors that effect the overall level curve. They are two different things that you’re trying to combine into one.
They have already stated that you won’t get the new reward for the January monthly.
Finish it!
My understanding is that the stats are extremely minimal and you can’t put an upgrade (outside of the infusion) into the ascended so that would limit your personal customization based on your preferences at any given time.
Are the differences so great that it would warrant quitting the game over?
I could be wrong though, and again…that’s why I’m asking.
Supply and demand doesn’t dictate rarity and markets don’t always follow basic supply and demand. I suppose if you’re going by the earlier high school economics classes it might but not so much when you actually study and practice economics. O’well, to each there own. Either way, thanks again for the personal attacks as they’re always the best way to prove you’re right when you don’t know what you’re talking about.
BTW, don’t bother responding to me in this thread…it doesn’t need to be derailed any further. You can always PM if you feel the need to belittle someone some more.
What does the Ascended gear have that would benefit you in WvW so much that you’d quit the game if you can’t have any?
It don’t really have a problem with ascended gear. I just want to be able to acquire it by doing wvw. It annoys me that i play against players in WvW who have better gear than me and play less WvW.
But that is my question…how is there gear any better than your in so far that it gives them any advantage over you in WvW? I seriously don’t know, that’s why I’m asking.
If so them please enlighten me oh wise one. So far you’ve done nothing but attack but haven’t supported your opinion one bit.
Thanks for the personal attacks simply because I have a different opinion than you. Shows a lot of maturity.
So, if I buy a ton of gold with real cash and buy all the dyes on the market and then re-list them for twice as much…that will show just how rare the item is?
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Thoughts-on-rarity-and-gold
What does the Ascended gear have that would benefit you in WvW so much that you’d quit the game if you can’t have any?
No…sorry. The HQ is server bound and there are no Guild Transfers at this time or any planned for the future that I’m aware of (not saying that it won’t happen, just that I don’t know about it).
I’m ordering parts for a friends new system of which he is on a very small budget to build. I’ve built systems with Intel i7 (mine) and AMD Phenon IIx4 Black (for two friends) and love them both. Considering his budget we’ve decided to go with the AMD for now.
So…which of these would be best? I have good experiences with the Phenon and heard that the FX isn’t a true Quad-Core…any insight is highly appreciated.

I may have some more comparison questions when it comes to the MB and GPU but I need to get this decision made first. Thanks in advance.

Anyone who is saying the chance for dyes to drop hasn’t gone down is more than likely just trolling. The TP prices themselves show that dyes have become much rarer.
Thanks but I’m not trolling. I stated my personal experience. You can believe it or not…your choice…but that doesn’t make me a troll.
Also, the market prices shot up to over 13s by the end of November and have stayed about that average since. That was two months ago. Regardless, the TP prices don’t necessarily dictate rarity…could just be that more people started selling them for more coin, nothing more.
^^ Favorites…there’s an option for this in the dye panel.
Use the attachments option that lets you pick a file from your system to include in the post…must be of the format: jpg, jpeg, gif, png, txt, or log
Leveled my Charr from 15-20 yesterday and got 5 dyes. This has been the norm for me on all my characters that I’ve played since release but apparently it’s rather common for others to have issues with this (your case in point).
Wii Flag maybe?
How is it that people are having problems completing their dailies? I understand that we don’t always have the time to play each day but why should that constitute a change in the system to benefit us?
Dailies take 30-60 minutes tops and if you don’t have that sort of time for a given day then so-be-it…it’s not like you’re going to be left behind with no way to catch up.
Honestly though, how is that these daily requirements are so drastic for some that they would need them stretched across multiple days to complete? Are you only able to play for 10 minutes a day?
FYI: for those that are having trouble with the daily DEs…go do MAW. It spawns every 30 minutes and within 10 minutes you’ll have 6-8 DEs completed and half your other daily requirements out of the way as well.
^^ True but LOTRO came out in 2007 and had very little zoning. You could literally walk the entire land mass from one end to the other without zoning once.
I maybe misreading this thread, but what does computer specs have to do with lag?
If specs are bad and connection isn’t great then increasing the distance to the server you connect to will have a much more profound affect on overall performance.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lag_%28online_gaming%29
“While there may be numerous underlying reasons for why a player experiences lag, they can be summarized as insufficient hardware in either the client or the server, or a poor connection between the client and server.”
(edited by BioFringe.7945)
I don’t see why you’d have any trouble. I’ve played online games on systems with lower stats than that…me in the U.S. and the server in Asia so I’d venture to guess that you should be good to go.
Why not just add a Weekly instead of messing with the definition of Daily?
Without knowing anything about yours or your friends systems, internet connections, play times, etc…there’s just no way to tell. Best thing to do is to have your friend come over and log into his account from your computer and see how it runs.
For most players condition damage is a secondary stat to direct damage (technically, it’s a secondary stat for everyone regardless) but if you have enough conditions then you might want to consider a condition based build. With just one condition though you’re much better off going for the direct damage as opposed to waiting for your one condition to work its magic.
With that setup I’d probably devote about 80% DD and 20 CD at most but that’s just my opinion. FWIW, I play an 80 warrior with a DD build and an 80 elementalist with a CD build. Both play completely different and I couldn’t imagine switching them around.
I really miss the huge open world in LOTRO but for some reason even though GW2 is a step back for me in this regard (more like EQ from years ago) I still enjoy the game. Having said that, I agree…the waypoint and portal system definitely takes something away from immersion and potential. Not so much that I’d complain about it myself but it sure would be nice to see Tyria as one big open expanse where you could walk from one end to the other without a single loading screen.
