Besides the Wiki you can look through the News and Announcements subforum…just look for any threads that start with "Game Update Notes and you’ll get all the same info that everyone else has.

Also, everything we know about Flame and Frost pretty much comes from the main page…

The thing is though that they don’t really count it as a transfer since you’re just prompted to select a new home world automatically when creating your first character. There would be no reason to make someone wait another 7 days if their account didn’t have any characters what-so-ever.
Of course I can’t confirm this…it would be nice if a dev popped in.
And I highly doubt that if you delete them all and select a server you would then have to wait another 7 days if you want to rinse & repeat. The cost is for accounts that have characters and the waiting period if for WvW protection so you shouldn’t have any problems.
Happy to say but the above is not true.
If you delete all of your characters you will be prompted to select a new home world upon creating your first new character. No charge.
Does the guild +15% karma boost help with karma jugs? The description says “For 24 hours, your guild receives an additional 15% karma from dynamic events.” That would imply it won’t increase the karma you get from jugs.
Not sure which booster you’re looking at but mine say “any Karma gained” so that would include the jugs.
I agree that TC should be considered as one of the top choices for PvE content. I’ve been on since near release and absolutely love this server. There’s always people running about every zone that I go into and DEs tend to have more than people running them nearly all the time.
PvE, RP, whatever…come join us today!
I don’t really have anything positive to add to the discussion itself but I did want to clear one thing up…
You can in fact access HoM without ever owning EoN, you just can’t get any rewards from it otherwise.
I have absolutely no idea how the aggro in this game works and I’ve read the wiki a couple times now. I’m not saying that wiki is wrong, just that I don’t happen to see it unfold in practice as it’s described.
Having said that, everyone loves my thief in a group because I always get tagged and then I just avoid all the damage. So, as long as others stay out of AoE range no-one takes any damage or ever has to worry about dying. They love me!
No offense Avatar but that’s not a problem with the system. Self re-evaluation might be in order.
In other words…if it feels like work then stop doing it.
You can’t afford both? How do you know that? Has the expansion date and cost been announced?
As far as you know the expansion won’t be out until Fall, which gives plenty of time to save backup. Therefore, if you can afford the server transfer now then don’t hold back because of an unannounced, possible expansion.
BTW: there are still free transfers…you just have to be willing to delete all your characters and start fresh.
+175 Power at 80 or +250 Power at 80?
5s or 7g?
Is an additional 75 Power at 80 worth nearly 7g more than just sticking with the Major? Personally, I don’t think so. Like it has been mentioned…sell the superior and buy a major.
Is should be reworded to say “Evade” so that people can learn the difference but then you’d have a bunch of threads complaining that someone doesn’t know how to evade.
FYI: The physical act of dodging only counts if you evade the attack. If you’re just jumping out of the way before an attack even comes then you’re not evading, therefore you’re not really dodging.
While I can see how you’ve come to your opinions about the longevity, I simply don’t adhere to them myself. One of my systems is still considered standard and I built it over 2 years ago for $600. My oldest system can still run certain modern games (such as Torchlight 2) and it’s 9 years old.
It’s all a matter of personal desires, needs, expectations, experience, and most importantly…perspective. Mine is just a bit different than yours but I don’t think either of us are necessarily wrong. The average truth probably lies somewhere in the middle.
In regards to the OP…it could at least (probably) be agreed that a $400 system isn’t going to have much of an upgrade path and it certainly won’t be handling new releases for much longer.
Either way, if someone could put a full $400 system together (operating system and all) that could impress me, well…then I’d be impressed
I agree. They chose to display it as the items were displayed in your inventory at the time you had them. I can understand why but it’s still a bit confusing until you know.
Those are “Trophy” items that you collected in order to complete those specific steps in the story. They were turned in at the time in order to complete the quests and the log just shoes them as a sort of display (reminder) of your accomplishments.
You can’t take them or use them in any form what-so-ever. Just another way of displaying the story to you.
Getting the absolute minimum is probably not the best idea. Things can be clunky and the requirements may rise when expansions come out.
This is an excellent point that a lot of people tend to overlook. If you put together a $400 system today chances are that it won’t last until this time next year so another $400 needs to be spent nearly every year just to stay at the very bottom of the pile.
Spend $700 today and you can built a computer that will last you 5 years minimum with a minimal upgrade in that time period of a new graphics card and maybe some more RAM.
Basic math dictates that building (or buying for that matter) anything that is subpar to today’s standards is a complete waste of money.
I did read your thread thank you very much. It’s just that the quote from you was the only thing worth replying to.
Why do you keep making these threads? What are you trying to gain by pleasing both camps? Leave that to Anet and if you have any specific suggestions for them, well there’s a forum for that.
we were lead to believe there would be NO regional boundaries at all, and there are plenty of OFFICIAL announcements by GW2 devs that this would indeed be the case, thus that you could guest to any region from any region
I wasn’t lead to believe that since they never official said anything of the sort. Please post any sources that you might have because I’ve never seen such a statement from the devs.
The two regions are separated by physical hardware…how exactly would you resolve this issue? It’s a shame that this is the way that it has to be but that’s just it, it’s the way that it has to be. Unless there’s a method out there that I’m unfamiliar with in which case I’d love to learn about it.
Really no one has any idea on how to fix this? Everyone clearly sees an issue though. Then why not make simple suggestions like I made?
Speak for yourself…not me. I don’t see a grind for me personally so no issue here. If someone feels that they are grinding then they need to re-evaluate their personal approach to playing the game and decide if it’s worth it to them or not.
No matter what is done someone, somewhere will think that there’s a grind. I don’t really see any solution to that. Sorry.
Leveling them up is the best way to tell. I had an Engineer and Mesmer that I was torn between so I created both, leveling them 5 at a time. When they both hit 20 I ended up deciding on the Mesmer and another 15 levels flew by before I even realized that my Engineer was officially shelved.
Sorry, I didn’t use any guides. Just the forum and wiki when needed but otherwise it was all trial and error for me.
An expensive mouse and keyboard will do the trick (along with the ability to figure it all out).
I would like to see them add the ability to switch the weapon skills around in the hotbar using the same method already applied to utility / elite skills. When out of combat simply give us an up arrow to click on so that we can switch the 1-5 around in whatever order we personally prefer. There’s nothing wrong with choice and the current system doesn’t prevent anything other than that by existing.
personally i think thief is the most boring class in the game. i would go with guardian, but that’s just my opinion.
And this is something that every player needs to figure out for themselves as it’s perfectly legit that one might love a particular class while another loathes it. Might just be a bit more helpful to provide some reasoning behind your opinion though as opinions are too commonplace otherwise.
very helpful answer!
How do you like playing a thief end game ? And do you feel like contributing in a dungeon?
I might not be the best one to answer that in regards to absolute concrete info since “my” endgame tends to be a bit more casual. I see all my characters as being viable at the normal idea of GW2 endgame just depending on which one I feel like playing. On that note, I feel like playing my thief all the time and when I do, I have a lot of fun without any complaints from others.
I also don’t hear a lot of negativity about thieves in dungeons in general…it’s usually rather positive.
If you like the ele and you take the time to learn the thief (really learn) then I can’t possibly see you not enjoying yourself as well as being revered by others as a good thing to have in any group.
Just my own opinion of course so take it for what it’s worth to ya. If you have any questions while leveling a Warrior, Elementalist, Thief, Mesmer, or Engineer you are more than welcome to contact me ingame at any time.

Could be an anti-perching mechanic?
is there any profession that absolutely needs the gm traits to, say, do well in dungeons?
No.
While there are several really awesome traits that could be gained it always, always comes down to player skill.
Having said that, chances are if you compare the top two traits (the ones unlocked by the gm book) in any given line you’ll find at least one that is so much better than any lower tier traits. Therefore, it’s more than likely that it’s in your best interest to buy the book for that one trait as opposed to skipping it and settling for something else.
Hope that makes sense.
EDIT: It should be noted that it also comes down to player perspective in so much that a given trait might be awesome in one build but not another for the same character type. So, one man’s treasure is another man’s trash.
An example would be Warrior – Defense – Merciless Hammer
If you don’t use a hammer it’s useless but if you do then it’s priceless.
(edited by BioFringe.7945)
Warrior was my first 80…shelved since then due to being too easy (read: boring) for my overall tastes. It was a good way to learn about the game mechanics before moving on to harder professions but for me that was about it.
Elementalist was my second 80…you should know enough about that. Although, they are really squishy at times but a lot of fun to play.
Thief was my third 80…lots of fun with a difficulty between the Warrior and Ele. There’s lots of ways to mix it up when the actions become routine (like the ele) and he’s fast, very fast (at everything). I don’t find him very squishy though since part of the fun is staying away from damage so a mix between melee and ranged is a must as far as I’m concerned. Stealth is a fun mechanic to play around with and to see all the different types of situations that it can be used in.
All in all, I’d say go with a thief. The race doesn’t matter…it’s all a matter of personal preference. Except, it’s easy to jump around as an Asura so I could imagine an Asura Thief would be a blast.
IMO the Thief is the second most graceful profession to play next to mesmer.
3 – to get the bonuses (Attributes) for that trait line (IE: Elementalist Fire Magic = +Power/Cond Duration)
Sorry, I don’t understand the last question.
If you like what the grandmaster has to offer your character than there’s no “best value” as it’s all relative to the player’s personal opinion and choice.

When I first started playing MMOs it was in DAoC. When I had asked someone in the guild how they could afford crafting they all told me that it was an accepted practice to stand in the middle of the main city and ask for “Crafting Coin Donations” in local chat. Needless to say, it wasn’t an accepted practice and I looked like the server fool for the next couple of days.
O’well, all in good fun. Thankfully no-one reported me for harassment or some such infraction.
If you look for that reward of being recognized for doing something really good, you’ll have to learn how to earn it by playing that good, with out relying on a built-in advantage.
This has to be one of the greatest statements that I’ve read on this board in a very long time and it holds true for so many different aspects of the game, not just this one. I know that it sounds like LTP but honestly…LTP.
Also, I know you can turn it off on the map, but I’m asking if it will be turned off completely in new zones or content.Thanks.
I doubt it. There’s no reason to offer people a choice in how they want to view the map and then suddenly strip that choice away by forcing them to only see it one way.
If you want to remove the icons…then remove the icons. But there’s no need to force everyone to play the game the way that you prefer. Choice is good. Force is not.
Never thought that I’d say this but I can’t participate in this poll. In over 15 years of MMOs I have never not had a main but in GW I find that just so happens to be the case. I play all 5 of my characters about evenly and I choose based on my preference at the time. I really can’t decide on a main. Is that wrong of me?
My only house rule:
“Do what thou want”
Always.
Didn’t have any rules trough my leveling process, though now I’ve set up in a pretty weird way:
- only my necromancer sylvari runs fractals. All the money that she earns she has to put in the bank. She has to earn rings for all of my characters.
- until my guardian is level 80, my thief has to earn her the full CoE gear, all the money that she earns she has to put in the bank.
- my level 35 guardian is the only one allowed to complete dailies. She needs all the exp she can get!
- banked money belongs to my main, first level 80, asura elementalist. She has to buy her T3 gear and later reach for at least 1 legendary weapon.
All other characters, except for my main asura have to be self sufficient. The game gives you enough cash to have good gear and to buy all of your books. If any of my characters will lack money on their way to 80 I’ll know that I did something horribly wrong.
I have a slightly similar method in so much that after every run the character that I’m playing at the time must deposit all funds less 10s into the bank. Sticking to these has pretty much allowed me to afford everything that I’ve wanted for each character.
Another house rule of mine is that whenever I use one of my 80s to downscale more than half their level in order to run with friends I’ll make a stop to pick up the cheapest white armor and weapons for the levels that we’ll be running. Seems to add to the challenge so that my friends don’t fell as if they’re ridding my coattails all the time.
On my first level 80 I pretty much did just about anything that I could think of or that simply crossed my path. IE: porting to LA at level 10.
On my second level 80 I tried to limit certain actions to the context of where my character might be at within their personal leveling experience. IE: Not porting to LA but rather running there via the path set out for me on the levelish 30 personal story mission (the one that sends you to LA and is the first mention of LA to the character).
On my third and fourth characters I’m sticking to zones that I was meant to be in. IE: Human character won’t leave Queensdale before zone completion and the next level will be Kessex Hills.
With each character I’m adopting more and more house rules that I place on myself to heighten my personal enjoyment of the game. I have much more than given as examples above and I’ll have to jot them done but in the meantime I’m curious as to what House Rules other players might adhere to.
It’s Bigtime people…he’s just trolling. Let him be.
It might be natural, but this is a game. It’s supposed to make fun.
Is it fun to get less when you ask your friends/ guild to help you?
If you want to do everything solo, why do you play an MMORPG?
Play a single-player game if you want to, don’t try to ruin the fun for everyone else. Its not fun. You dont know what fun is, you think if everyone gets everything itll all be fun, its not. The fun comes from having more than someone else. Wether you know it or not, thats whats going on if you were honest about it. Obviously you dont know whats going on if you think everyone having everything is going to be fun for everyone.
Holy elitist Bat man!
Besides, what do you really care what other people have in this game? Does it really affect your game play?
10g…36g…so what, it’s not that much. And you’ve already stated that your guild mates were perfectly willing to chip in 100g for a title so why wouldn’t they be willing to chip in for a friend to transfer? Makes no sense that they wouldn’t. And if you don’t want them to pay then take it as a short term loan.
And to up the ante even more…I’ll throw in 10g, you throw in 10g, and get the other 16g from your guild. Problem solved.
EDIT: Oh, and so far on your 2 page thread…you’re the only one that thinks the cost is too high. Guess you got your answer.
It’s 10g! You could make that in no time or in the least get 10 members to chip in 1g apiece and pay them back after your transfer. Seriously! Are you really that upset about this that you can’t see the simple solutions right in front of you?
Heck, I’ll send you 1g just to get you started.
I’d say there is a bit of a gulf between saying they will miss me and saying they will pine so badly they decide to organise charity events to keep me in the game. Lol, in 10 years of MMOs I’ve never once seen any group of players do such a thing for anyone.
When my guild wanted a commander for WvW it took the whole lot of us to contribute to raise the 100g. Gold might be of inconsequential value to some of you, but to people like me who mainly PvP and never step foot inside a dungeon, it’s not as easily come by.
So they’ll raise 100 gold for a commander tag but not 10g for a friend to transfer servers? But I thought that you hadn’t seen such charity…I guess you meant real charity as opposed to vanity charity. O’well.
To answer your specific concerns…I believe that the server transfer costs are appropriate.
This can’t possibly be a simple task for the devs and there’s just no way to expect them to have nailed it on the first, second, or even third try. Since everyone has there own level of compentency the devs will continue to have difficulty adjusting the ratio’s involved in order to find that happy medium. Give them time, as long as they continue to try, and give them feedback…eventually it should feel just about right no matter who you are.
Having said that, I still find it way too easy no matter what level I downscale to. But that’s just me and I wouldn’t expect everyone to feel the same about it. Personal experience, skill, talent, etc…will have a huge impact on how this system feels to any specific person.
Welcome to all the new members. I’ve only been with the guild for a couple of weeks now and I’ve only been on a handful of times. Still haven’t found the time on my end to fully participate the way that I’d like but so far I love the fact that there’s no pressure what so ever.
Best of luck everyone and I hope to see you ingame.
Because they’re all OPTIONAL. They never said that there wouldn’t be any grind but rather that it wouldn’t be required. If you want those items then the system for them is a grind or not based on your personal perspective. Nothing more.
To that…I’m off to grind me some karma.
No……………………..
Not a direct response to the OP in particular but to some of the replies…
I feel really bad for anyone that thinks that they are “forced” or “need” to do anything in this game. Seriously…that is all.
The rewards are too substantial to exclude cross-sections of players, wholesale. Karma to you maybe meaningless (good for you, by the way), but I’d rather not be stuck grinding karma on events for the next six months for the gear I want, when I could have it in a matter of weeks. ESPECIALLY when the majority of the player base is able to use that fast track without a problem.
Stuff your superiority.
Not about my superiority but rather your entitlement issues. You’re so caught up in it that you can’t even see the trees from the forest.
But of course, as usual, the personal attacks come out when someone doesn’t have a leg to stand on.
BTW: in case you can’t tell…I bolded the single word that you used that completely negates your own argument. Well done.
Bottom line, they should not have released the new dailies before they could get in the option to choose among them. They could save themselves and players a lot of headaches by simple reality testing of ideas before implementation.
Nah…I prefer in an ever-growing game that it’s best to implement, tweak, then add-on. There’s nothing wrong with implementing a fluctuation system before a choice system (especially if the first was near completion when the second was suggested).
Not a direct response to the OP in particular but to some of the replies…
I feel really bad for anyone that thinks that they are “forced” or “need” to do anything in this game. Seriously…that is all.
Can’t tell you if it’s just your server without knowing what server you’re on. Having said that, my server is far from dead.
Combo field dailies were only an issue for the first 3 hours this new system was in place. Let’s not fall back to complaining about things that no longer exists. Please, there’s enough negativity on the boards as is. Let the fire that has died remain as such.
Lighten up people…we’re playing games here.
