5 Dungeons in 7 Hours?

I’ve never done a dungeon in this game before despite having three 80s (outside of the final personal story mission of course). I’ve also never been this close to finishing a monthly before either so…

Is it possible for a dungeon newbie to complete 5 dungeons before the reset at 7pm EST tonight for the monthly? If so, please advice on how to proceed.

From the Wiki…

Separate from event scaling, Group Events are different in complexity and/or difficulty from other events of the surrounding area. Group Events are listed in the event assistant with “[Group Event]”, and like other events are marked on the map and compass. As their name implies, they are designed to be done with groups rather than individuals as they are unlikely to be solo-able (though some can be with patience and tactics).

Not trying to argue with you…just going by your examples.

Again, the ability to edit the information to suit your needs via the wiki is there. The ability to think for ourselves should also be present. If neither of those satisfy you and you then expect Anet to change because of it, well have fun with that.

Sure, they could state that it would be the 27th for EU but is that really necessary? Do people from EU really have such a difficult time figuring out that if a U.S. based company says the 26th then it will probably be the 27th in EU?

When the audience is worldwide, yes, it would be nice to mention it. Because Kids with the game in their not-English-language don’t know the product is from US. So they go to their wiki ( http://wiki-fr.guildwars2.com/wiki/Flamme_et_froid , http://wiki-de.guildwars2.com/wiki/Flamme_und_Frost:_Der_aufziehende_Sturm , http://wiki-es.guildwars2.com/wiki/Llama_y_escarcha:_Tormenta_inminente ) and each of those mentions the 26 of Februari in their language. So while you can (discutably) argue about Spanish for Spanish-speaking people in the USA, or French-Canadians, there’s no really point to say to German-speaking) people (who mostly live in Europe, except some Amish people who… oh wait, no, they don’t play video games) that their game will be released on Feb 26th when they actually will be able to play it on the 27th.

So yes, the communication can and should be improved.

You can edit the wiki yourself…no need to wait for someone else to do it. If it bothers you so much then just change it.

I think it would be good if they did it for clarity’s sake. It’s true that Europeans can just work out the time for themselves, but would it be all that bad to do it just to keep everyone informed and happy?

Like I said…sure. I don’t see a problem with clarity. My only problem is when people stop thinking for themselves and expect someone else to make things easier for them.

For example: If you live on the East coast of U.S. would you expect a movie theater on the West Coast to list there times in a manner such that they cover all time zones? It would certainly clarify exactly when their movies will start for anyone that might be interested in knowing regardless of where they live but is it really necessary?

That was my question…is it really necessary?

It would be more clear to just state it like this

NA – 26th
EU – 27th

because If they say that patch is 26th most People, and most common sense tell You that patch should go Live on 26th. So EU should have patch midday Accordin to EU timezone and not wait whole day – while wasting that day because we don’t get patch and have to wait for NA to kick in.

I would love to see this working other way. Forcing NA to wait 1 more day for patch while EU would have it faster. Guess americans have to be first and put thier terms on everything :>

Sure, they could state that it would be the 27th for EU but is that really necessary? Do people from EU really have such a difficult time figuring out that if a U.S. based company says the 26th then it will probably be the 27th in EU?

Why the snide American comment? You’re playing a U.S. based game. I wouldn’t in a million years consider making snide remarks about people simply because they get something in their country first, from a company within their own country. That just seems rude.

The problem with Anet patch isn’t patch itself But patch notes.

People are more curious about what patch will actually bring rather then patch going live itself.

Anet doesn’t release patch notes untill patch is aviable via download thats why there are so many questions about patch.

The only thing I don’t understand is why to keep patch notes a secret.

Blizzard for exmaple releases patch notes for further patches ( even those 2-3 months away ) as soon as they get an Idea to implement something.

So In case of blizzard You know patch notes, and stuff that will come with them LONG before patch will go live.

And thats a problem in this case.

I see it the complete opposite…I’d rather they publish notes after the patch gets implemented so that we know exactly what is in the patch as opposed to what they think or hope will be in the patch. This way there’s no issue with an item on the patch notes not making it into the patch.

EDIT: For others that are complaining about GW2 patching process…I’d much prefer this method over having the servers come down for the entire day. Doesn’t seem very amateurish to me but rather innovative. Is it perfect? Not by any means but it’s certainly the best (READ: Quickest & Easiest) method that I’ve ever experienced in an MMO.

Server matters little as you can always guest to two different servers every 24 hours. In essence, all the servers are all just one server. Especially since you can cross server party with people for dungeons.

Just to clarify…the above is true except in regards to regions. Meaning that you must be in the same region (EU / NA) to guest onto another server.

I guess it was just my assumption that if you live in the US, it would go without saying you would join the US servers. In the long run, it is better to know you will be able to actively play when the rest of the community is as well.

That is a huge assumption and not without its merits. However, there have been plenty of documented cases on these boards of people joining a server based on where their friends are as opposed to which region they live in. There have also been plenty of documented cases on these boards of people simply joining the region they currently live in only to find out that they can’t guest with there friends back in there hometown since they are in different regions.

Always best to be safe rather than sorry…don’t assume anything.

New player: Server Dilemma

BioFringe.7945

Tarnished Coast is a good server and the players are nice.

Thanks for the reply, Drew.
Not to be rude, but this does not really answer any of my questions :P

Actually, he kinda did as I read it as an answer to your final question (#5)…sort of like saying “I’d forget about the rest of your concerns and just join TC already…it’s the best choice”

Apart from that I can only offer some basic insight into your questions.

1) Will I experience any problematic latency issues being in North America and playing on a European server?

Everything that I’ve ever read on these boards about this issue is that there’s nothing to worry about. All signs point to you not experiencing anything bad that could be contributed to being in NA and playing on an EU server or vise-versa. Having said that, I can only go by what I’ve read.

2) The game indicated to me if I pick a European server it must “transfer my account”. If I choose to do so, and at a later date pay for a server transfer, can I transfer to a North American server?

Once again, I can only go by what I’ve read and once again all signs point to yes.

3) This particular server appears to be very low on the WvWvW rankings, and is listed as population “medium”. This is setting off some alarm bells for me that the population of this server is not really in great condition. Is “Medium” actually medium, or is this a misnomer to make a “low” server seem higher than it is?.

I’ve never seen it as a misnomer but it’s a mixed bag for WvW since a high/full server will tend to have higher que times where as a medium server you could become more active more often, thereby helping your server quite a bit in the rankings.

4) It’s my understanding if I pick an NA server I simply cannot Guest to their server, correct?

5) What would you do in my situation?

Tarnished Coast is a good server and the players are nice.

You can also buy or craft larger bags.

Thanks, managed to bank a lot of items with this! But of course my bank might fill up next instead, what exactly are those items for I don’t find the descriptions very clear.

Those items don’t actually go to your bank but rather your collectables, which is accessed via your bank and can usually hold up to 250 per stack of each item. They are used for crafting and once you get into that each ones use will become more clear.

This is how I would handle my inventory as a brand new player to GW2 based on my personal needs and experience…

1. Buy bigger bags. 10-Slot will only cost you @ 1s each so I’d go for those right out of the gate.

2. Use the Deposit All Collectibles button in the upper right hand corner of the inventory window (Gear Icon). *Better described by Grassrab above.

3. Go to a Merchant and click on Sell All Junk as those are useless otherwise.

4. Sell or Forge

  • Whites & Blues = Sell (or salvage with a Basic or Fine Salvage Kit if crafting is an option)…I usually salvage anything under a certain sell rate such as 50c and sell anything above.
  • Green < 70 = Sell
  • Green > 70 = Forge
  • Yellow < Ectoplasm TP Rate = Master Salvage
  • Yellow > Ectoplasm TP Rate = Sell
  • Orange = Sell (more often than not)

5. Create a “Mule” Alt…call him Sammule…stock with 10-slot Bags…transfer long-term items such as boosters for later use.

6. Create a Guild (even if only for myself)…start upgrading towards guild vault.

But that’s just me.

Okay, I don’t get the complaining about how crafting Mystic weapons is uninteresting. You buy the remaining parts off the TP, get the scroll from the NPC next to the forge, put everything in the toilet, and sell the result on the TP. It takes maybe half a minute.

What part of uninteresting don’t you get. It doesn’t matter to me how long it takes or how much I could make from it. I don’t enjoy the process so I’ll skip it. There’s plenty of other things that I do enjoy and I make enough gold to support my needs and desires. I can’t understand how anyone would find forging mystic weapons interesting. Again, to each there own.

BTW: I’m not complaining…read all of my post within this thread and you’ll see that it’s quite the opposite (others are complaining about what I say, not me complaining about anything).

Well you don’t have to be interested in making them.

If everyone would stop complaining about no gold, no drops and find out what they have on them can be used to make more gold, they wouldn’t be complaining here would they?

I don’t want any mystic weps, but when I saw how much money there are selling/ buying for, I thought about making a few in the future to get my T3 armor and legendary requirements.

Actually, I would have to be interested or else it would be uninteresting and why would I spend my valuable time doing something uninteresting?

As to the second statement…that was my point exactly. Although you seem to think that by making more gold it has to be crafted, take more mats, take lots of time, etc…while I believe that making more gold could simply equate to selling that which you’re not interested in on the TP for whatever you get. In this instance it was enough for another guild for bank storage, which sounds pretty good to me.

And lastly, in regards to your final statement…I’m not interested in any of that. Sorry.

Point is that it’s all relative. Where you see me as having missed out on a lot of gold, I see myself as having made an extra 6g that I wouldn’t have had otherwise. To you, that’s not enough. To me, it’s more than enough.

It’s all a matter of perspective and in this case neither of us are right or wrong.

You have every right to insist on quality and every right to complain. However, I don’t agree with your assessment that it all comes down to “sloppy work” but again, it’s your right to think such things.

Honestly though…if you learn to adapt you’ll end up being a better person for it. Either way, your unwillingness to do so will not stop me from moving forward.

Quality VS Quantity

If WoW or any other MMO stopped putting out content until they fixed all the release bugs then they would have never released more content. There are still bugs from release in every single MMO that I’ve played over the past decade+ and that’s quite a bit.

As a matter of fact…I’d venture to say that every single player game that I’ve played over the last decade+ still has bugs that were present at release. That’s just the nature of code people. Learn to adapt…it’s what separates us from the lesser animals.

I would adapt if it wasn’t for bugs that existed since day 1 and bugs that are just plain stupid and could have been detected by automated testing (see achievement bug). That’s sloppy work.

You can still adapt…don’t let the bugs stop you from doing so.

Report the bugs. Wait for a fix. If said fix doesn’t come in what you feel is an acceptable time frame and it makes the game unplayable for you then move on to something that might be more enjoyable. Adapt.

However, insisting (not saying you are personally) that all bugs be fixed before new content is release is not adapting…it’s being unreasonable.
