I’m a little worried what a fix for night capping/coverage would bring. A server or zerg shouldn’t be crippled because they have more players at a given time, that will draw them away from playing at all. That or it forcing them to split up zergs just to keep the same advantage.

I do like the idea of separating the ticks up more though. I think that even though I might lose everything while I sleep, I would feel better knowing I did a lot while I was on.

This would be the end of Power of the Mists buff. Most players don’t really notice the buff. Nor do they play WvW specifically for the buff, so it hasn’t served as an effective motivator for winning matches. It also tends to reward PvE players more than WvW players. The upside to removing the buff, for WvW players, is that it should help our case for further improving WvW rewards, because it’d be lowering the rewards entering the game from elsewhere.

Does that “case” include unique wvw legendary weapons, armors and back pieces?

That would be amazing. I’d love to get legendary gear just through being in WvW. I think that’s too big of a reach though. Anet really likes pushing people around the game and doing content they might not enjoy. Its hard to blame them for that though because they put a lot of work into those other areas as well. Anyways, yeah it’d be nice to work towards a greater good in WvW.

Its definitely weird how its working out. You can clearly see some T1 servers in NA that don’t have near the numbers of other servers yet are still marked “full”. My guild and I guessed that this could have been done manually as well to prevent stacking. Its definitely annoying though, we are marked as “full” too but are outmanned/outnumbered on every map.

While the increased rewards are great, it still doesn’t really compare to that of PvE. I was talking to my PvE friend and he can make 80-100g in the same amount of time it takes me to make 10-20g. The one booster that provides a PvP reward track gain should also account for WvW now as well. Can’t wait to see what gets added next!

I went from disliking it to being just okay with it. I never hated the map but I definitely don’t love it either. The uneven terrain really makes fights hard because some skills like hammer 2 for revenants just doesn’t work. There are too many choke points and small areas where there needs to be more room to fight. For example, the NWT is hard to fight in because of its layout. I definitely liked that they removed that big rock area just coming out of your garrison to the west. That was nothing but an eyesore and wasn’t even necessary to have. One thing I always liked about the map is that there was flavor for each tower and keep. I’m glad that the champions don’t just sit still and take it like they do in EB despite some of them like the Earth keep moving around a little too much. Necropolis is pretty awesome though.

Rewards point 1. is definitely a concern I think Anet should look more into. They did add that buffing allies will help you get more drops but if the druid in my guild only gets say 30 bags a night and I’m getting 60+, that’s not really fair. He’s doing as much work as I am. Point 2. has already been taken care of. You just have to get the ascended mat converter/eaters via PvE. Most of them take 20 minutes to do.

Keeps, towers, etc.
1. Nah. Its already at a point where the defenders get a buff if the structure is claimed, building upon that even further would make taking structures a real pain in the butt.
2. Magic find won’t keep offenses pushing strong. Magic find can also get tricky because of the impact it has on the economy.
3. I agree. I hope they are just placeholders for now and we see something a little cooler in the future.
4. Anet knows we hate it. Most people want it removed completely.

Maps are tricky. They take a lot of work to balance and polish. I think if you made different maps for each BL, you’d get into a lot of people just wanting to play say a snow map. Then they get sick of it and want to play the desert or farm map and the guilds and players on that map are unwilling to move/trade. What then?

Tiers. I think it really just needs to be broken into categories. Change the population caps for each category so we have true fighting guild, blob, and roaming servers. I don’t know how much this would benefit but its probably better than just linking a bunch of servers and them staying full the entire time. There is just a bit of anger around the WvW community that roaming servers enjoyed their quiet nights and are now faced with queues and blobs. While some hate that, others are loving it. I could go on about fixes for that but I want to touch base on all the OP’s points.

GvG’s won’t be happening anytime soon outside of what we already have. Its not something even on Anet’s radar at this point. They deserve credit here though. While the news might suck, at least they are starting to fix the glaring issues we’ve been facing for years now and that’s a good start.

You guys must not be on JQ if you don’t think its dying. Being outmanned on every map except EB during prime and only having 2 commanders at most isn’t dying? We are outnumbered in every fight. Sea can only carry JQ for so much and even they are leaving. In addition to that, the morale on JQ is very low. It might not be its lowest like when SoR was getting ready to collapse but its pretty low. Our biggest guild now I think is either WvW or CAIN who each probably run 15-20. SF and hS only run 15 at most and that’s it for guilds on the server.

You know why JQ’s score is where it is? Cloud Fly. He pulls crazy shifts like he always has and will PPT the entire time. Its not because JQ has a lot of guilds pulling their weight. YB is in the same situation. A lot of their guilds have left and DK can’t do it all (if he’s even still on YB).

This week will be interesting to see if JQ and YB both drop and BG gets new faces to fight.

The damage was pretty crazy. The skill does feel kind of useless now and the high 35 second or whatever it is cooldown for hunter’s ward makes longbow kind of pointless unless you really need a ranged option. With the meta changing because of stability, longbow isn’t the best option but it can still be viable.

The State of Roaming

Roaming is no longer 1v1 in our tier. There are a few people who will CC you then burst you down but those people aren’t fun to fight because if they miss, they usually drop instantly due to the glassy gear. Right now there are small groups of people that run around and are usually anywhere from 3-10 people in size. You’ll get the mesmer from a distance who will interupt you, the thief that will burst you, and the reaper who will drop conditions so you can’t move once you stun-break. Its a solid roaming comp and if the zerg comes, you can just mass invis and run to the sides then go back to picking off the pugs who are trying to get get back with the zerg.

Most common setups I see are what I mentioned. Lots of thieves, chronomancers, and reapers. Nothing new really.

Looks about right for JQ. Dying server with SEA still doing a lot of the work to keep PPT alive. Never thought I’d see JQ near the bottom of the list for WvW though.

I think YB lost a few guild the past week so its no shocker that BG is once again pulling ahead in T1. I expect to see BG/TC/YB as the T1 servers on reset this week.

Another interesting bit is probably HoD and Ebay. Those guys are pushing pretty hard.

Hosting worlds after linking are full

This is something I’ve been off and on talking about with Tyler. I hope he doesn’t mind me sharing but he basically said that full servers are going to remain full until the linking changes or guilds transfer. The sad thing is, that if you want to grow your guild and move to a lower tier, you’re going to need to move to one that is linked with a pretty popular server (which you have to keep in mind that the link can change). There are a few problems with that. 1. You never know who you might get linked with and for how long which could cause you to spend hundreds of gold just trying to stay paired with an organized server/guilds. 2. You get stuck with a server who has no organization and all the others are full. Right now, even old T4 servers are marked full for NA. This leaves you with a handful of servers that aren’t and there is a reason for that, they don’t have WvW presence. That means if you want to try and grow you’re guild, good luck finding a WvW player that would not only stay and play with you but also spend gold if you transfer again.

I’m definitely on the same page as Tyler B. and wanting more WvW related gear from the tracks (he said that would come as the beta closes). I also wouldn’t be against tracks that give us an ascended weapon or armor box at the end. There isn’t really a need for obsidian shards (WvW players get a ton of karma) or tomes of knowledge (most of us are max rank but a vendor or trader for them would be nice…especially for those that PvP AND WvW). I think it would also be nice to see +WXP buff added to hero banners or just a WXP banner in general. You could have a WvW booster that gives +magic find and +badges of honor and +wxp for 1 hour or break those up. You could always add the liquid consumables to the reward tracks or as part of the final reward as well.

Participation feels alright. Its not great but its better than nothing. I think its a good system for WvW players who have to run around for a while before they can get loot but the progress might be a little slow. +550 could be more however the +138 or whatever it is in EOTM seems fine.

So stability feels a lot better. It might not be perfect but its on the right track. I did notice a few bugs though. Last night, I ran straight through a static field placed by an ele and didn’t get CC’d at all. I don’t know if I had resistance but I definitely didn’t have stability as that’s what I looked for on my boon bar. Another instance happened over the weekend where I was literally walking around with about 2-3 seconds of immob on me. The chains and debuff were there, I had stab, and was just walking around. My guess is that this was just a UI and possibly server lag issue.

I think a lot of people are still trying to get boon stealing/stripping prioritized but if we do that, I definitely think that the 10 cap on walls should be removed or considered to be removed.

I searched and didn’t see anyone mention the Molten Jetpack from the old dungeon a few years ago! There is a fractal now but the Jetpack doesn’t drop anymore so the price on the TP (if there are still any left) is extremely high! Come on, Anet, its a jetpack!

Agree, this and airship and even chilling fog need to go. This mechanic is far far too OP for WvW.

Definitely the case. None of them are even balanced. They have zero counter-play except one could argue that you could put stealth traps on cloaking waters…even though the team could just go inside the inner gate and go to the other side and use it there. Its simply PvE style content doing the work for WvW players.

I do want to add that I like Anet is adding things like this to add flavor to WvW but I don’t think they are going about it the right way. Not only is balance a concern but the costs and time are too.

Instead of changing all those things I’ll give you some solid advice of what we run now. You can take either 1 staff ele and 1 druid. 2 druids, or 1 druid and 1 aura tempest. We have one druid who plays no matter what and we can tell a huge difference when he is. If the raid is more about blob fighting that night, we will buff up the condi clears and waters to adapt. Another thing to do is make sure your guardians are running hammer to blast the waters if you are having issues with blasts as well.

Not the best solution. Really there just needs to be a grace period for all players that if they leave WvW, they have like 2 minutes to get back in before the next player is allowed in. Far less exploitable than having it tied to commander tags but still a bit of work to program.

I don’t know how the lowest servers like ET and AR were but I feel like merging them with each other would have been fine. I don’t think adding more people to already populated servers was necessary for North American servers (T1 and T2). It is a shame that those who just liked smaller fights or roaming can’t really have that anymore but remember that this is just a beta test to fix population imbalances. People need to relax and try to come at this with a level head. People on my server were flipping out and getting angry instantly.

Its all new stuff for WvW and as we know by EU’s reset, queues were to be expected.

I don’t think it was necessary to link the T1 or T2 servers for NA. However, I do think people are over-reacting. Its a merge, reset night, and WvW was just updated and has improved greatly.

It’d be nice if the lag was fixed but I guess its something we will have to keep enduring.

I don’t know why people complain about Map Q’s. it’s always a good thing in my eyes. The maps being empty should be a concern.

Its also reset. The only time a queue is really a bad thing is when a server gets overpopulated and it takes more than 10 minutes to get in. That 10 minutes varies from person to person though as some people don’t mind waiting for 30 if they end up having fun. Getting into a map after 30+ minutes though only to have the commander sign off or switch maps is frustrating though but its part of WvW.

Theres nothing better then 2 large melee trains having a go at each other But overall damage is still too high which leads to very short fights instead of hours-long large-scale brawls.

I think its simply because of how the meta still is. A lot of zergs are still running necro/reaper heavy for those conditions and well bombs. In addition to that, the rally and res changes they made a few months back makes an even bigger difference now. I think they meta will settle down some in the next few weeks and we will start to really see some old styles come back along with new gear.

I definitely get the spirit shard to gold idea but I feel like that’s just an extra step for something else I don’t really need. I’d rather have some kind of tool like the ley-line one that lets me convert things into something else I need. I mean I always could use gold but the rate we get these tomes is crazy.

To add what unrivalled said, you now get Tomes of Knowledge for ranking up in WvW which can obviously be used to grant yourself a level worth of EXP. Just hop on your main character, play WvW, and then spend them all on your low level character.

Getting a handful per night is going to get old pretty fast. Last night I got 7 in just a few hours of playing. If I play nightly, I’m going to get a ton of them, and quickly. It would be nice if we could trade them in for badges or something WvW related. I don’t mind getting them, I just don’t need this many.

It would be easy enough to move all the camp guards closer to the center, so you’d always have to fight all of them to flip a camp. But to be clear, you guys are arguing that you want to do ‘more PvE’, which seems to go against the forum’s current agenda of ‘less PvE.’

Less PvE for sure but I feel like NPCs are fine when it comes to keeps, SMC, camps, towers, and sentries. I do think that they need to have a bit better pathing though or maybe move some of the veteran archers around. I feel like siege should be attacked by guards that roam around structures to give them a bit more use. The problem is that people would just build siege even further out of those rings but it would however stop some of the secret spots like the one at the Lich tower in the Desert BL.

Roamers in T1 are basically there to kill off anyone getting back to the zerg these days. They have 1v1 builds and a lot of them will run with multiple roamers. I rarely see a roamer these days by themselves or with one other person. Its usually a group of 3-5. If you get even numbers though, they generally run away. If you do find and beat them in a 1v1, they will send offensive whispers and more than likely only come back if they have a friend.

Its pretty bad and I generally stay away from them because a majority are just trolls now.

I have a semi-secret spot that I’ll share with you. During the portal drops for the beta last year, I got 2 or 3 from hitting so many events. From red base in Silverwastes to Indigo, you can escort 3 yaks, do two rubble events, and defend both bases. If you run back and forth and do it correctly, you’ll have no trouble getting sand, bandit crests, and loot.

This is a real bummer. Even if the legendary journey is a complete pain in the butt, it would have been nice to start working on a new one. I hope you guys that start working on living story don’t spend as much time on them as you did before. A lot of wasted effort two years ago when content was coming regularly but it was done in 20 minutes. A lot of hard work was overlooked.

Just give me WvW fixes and I’ll be happy. I don’t even know how to feel anymore about decisions you guys are making. Do I laugh? Do I cry?

In no order, just number form:

1. Rewards. Not everything should be tied to PvE. It would be nice to get our own legendary equipment from WvW, even if its a backpiece like PvP. Also increasing actual rewards is necessary. We run for hours and its work but only a 2-3 gold profit per night at the most (excluding outliers like junk or exotic items)
2. A real reason to win each week other than an extra bonus chest at the start of the next week.
3. Too easy to defend structures. Just throw up siege and wait until the attackers get bored. This is mostly due to the new buffs like chilling fog and hardend gates.
4. Auto-loot. It was mentioned to us before HoT and it never came. What happened?
5. Coverage changes to avoid hard work going to nothing because players across the globe were online and took everything you had.
6. DBL map needs better pathing to make it less frustrating to navigate. Same attention that Tangled Depths got post-HOT launch.
7. Legendary lord in SMC shouldn’t regen health when he drops combat. It makes the castle too hard to take.
8. Stability doesn’t need a revert but it should be changed/adjusted. More access to it, more stacks, or something to combat the power creep. I have made suggestions to Roy about the Revenant getting better access to it.
9. More things to spend badges on. Food, gear, runes, tomes, wxp boosters, etc. Make them account bound if necessary.
10. More ability lines. You hit the 1,500 rank or whatever and the next 8,000 are pretty much pointless.
11. Tweak level-up rewards to give more WvW related gear or ascended items.
12. Changes to the guild arena to use PvP gear system so that we can have somewhat proper GvG’s in them.
13. Adjusting to prices and access to upgrades for camps, towers, keeps, castle. Its about 20g if I’m not mistaking to queue a night worth of upgrades. This could be another thing people spend badges on. Upgrades should also be more balanced. The pact airfleet and cloaking waters are laughable in their current state.
14. Devs to play with us more to keep a better understanding of what the current issues are.
15. I have more but I just saw we only need to post our top 5….whoops.

Okay. Auto-loot, buffs to rewards, stability adjustments (PM me for ideas), night capping, more ability lines. How’s that?

They’re not botting, nor are they really breaking any rules directly (and they’ll get kicked out automatically after 45m), but it certainly is against the spirit of the game. I’m sure if a GM saw them they’d get kicked back to character select, but no further action would be taken. That’s my take on it.

Not true. Anet doesn’t like players getting rewarded for 0 effort. They solved the problem before of engineers using turrets to gain EXP when the game came out. AFK’ing for loot, exp, karma, etc is a no-no.

The WvW update seems pretty solid so far in terms of the PPK and rally changes. 5 to 1 makes fights much more fair and not linger on for 15 minutes. However, I have yet to test the adjustments to the banners however I haven’t seen many people running them either. The Oasis event changing from 20 to 12 orbs is a huge help however its still hard to gauge its power or significance without other guilds constantly fighting on the map. Two WvW guilds I’ve talked to so far find the markers more annoying than anything. The colors don’t contrast enough for people to see and the fact you can mark an enemy driver and leave it there forever is just encouraging tag sniping. What we need is markers for squads only that allow us to see our own drivers easier instead of having to target them plus the commander tag. Its easy to lose for a lot of people.

Gliding in old Tyria is awesome!

Alacrity nerf is a bit weird and you guys should talk to Lord Helseth about it. His post on reddit/Twitter was a home run hit.

Hammer 2 on Revenants shouldn’t be a .5 second on every player because that nulls a skill completely from the game all because someone else cast it at the same time. I feel like a better change could have been made to affect the weapon itself and not a group of players.

Thieves need a lot of work. I would suggest talking and reading more in the Thief sub-forum so it doesn’t end up like the Ranger after launch where it goes into a terrible state for a year or so.

The Shatterer is much better. The rewards and effort for the fight are pretty on par with what they should be. Only issue right now that I see is the lag. In addition to the change, I feel like the guild decoration is way too small and doesn’t really mean much. It almost feels unnecessary to have at all.

Soldiers works well in HoT content as well as WvW. It was the first set I got along with Hoelbrak runes before HoT even came out. It has worked pretty good so far. If you find your damage is lacking, try to get fury and some zerker trinkets or mix some knights in there as well.

I feel like Herald is almost a must in a lot of situations but mostly WvW. I’m like Revenant in everything but WvW. The lack of lasting stability makes playing frontline pretty hard which just means you have to make yourself more tanky to compensate for it.

I love that each keep has its own flavor and the introduction of shrines makes it kind of more fun for roamers. The thing I like least about the map is how confusing it is. Its so vertical and doesn’t really make much sense as it feels extremely cramped. As it stands right now, I haven’t found a single person that cares about the Oasis event but that’s probably because most WvW players are playing the new PvE content. Also I’m fond of the new champions acting much like the ones in EOTM where each one has its own skills. They are much tougher to take down which makes taking a tower really quickly kind of hard and leave plenty of time for enemies to form up and push in. I’m kind of iffy on how tough they are but so far, it doesn’t seem like too big of a problem.

I had 2 world completions and about 16,000 AP. I got 27 MP. When I looked at the way we can acquire them on the wiki, I wasn’t too bummed but having some more ways to earn both MP and XP would be nice. I don’t like the grind of old maps to level Tyria XP. I feel like I should be able to play the game and not have to worry so much about getting XP to starting legendary crafting.

This is only for creature attacks against player minions. Player attacks against minions keeps the same functionality as it has right now. This is for everywhere.

A lot of good points here so far. It seems like most people are on the same page. The medium of not too much but not enough effects is pretty clear.

I want to address the few that didn’t quite seem to see the point of my post. Its not that my view of art or what a legendary should be is so different, its that I feel these weapons don’t really offer anything special or different. I was expecting this round of legendary weapons to be a little more than what we’ve seen because of the “journey” we have to go on. This isn’t a rant or rage post and I’m sorry if it came off that way. I was just curious if others saw/thought what I did.

Skins aren’t as important as stat swapping. This makes them suddenly more powerful than ascended gear. All players will eventually feel they have to have that gear to be part of end game

I see it more of a complete package, you know? I want every part of it, even down to the purple name tag that comes up in chat.

I might be in the minority here and I’m perfectly willing to take criticism but I want to see if others are in the same boat as me.

When I saw the new axe, I thought it was awesome. I felt like even though the style was taken from that of Twilight and Sunrise, that it worked. The pistol was the same way. It felt great and seems like it will work really well for Engineers. Then there is the staff. I liked the concept but it didn’t really do much for me as I just saw what looked like a dead branch with a raven on it. It looked like a Halloween skin or possibly one from black lion traders. Then I saw the raven pop-up when it was wielded and liked it more. Crossing my fingers, I was hoping that Nevermore (the staff) would look a lot better in action during the guild chat stream….and it did, and didn’t.

All three weapons seem to have weaker footfalls that don’t last as long as the current generation. The axe wasn’t really unique enough. The pistol was pretty on par of what I would expect but I felt like it needed something. Different projectiles perhaps. Then the staff was nice but I felt the blue raven that appears when you wield the weapon was way too big. I did like the subtle ravens going up the staff though but maybe those should be bigger.

What I’m really getting to here is that I don’t feel like these are really on par with what I was expecting. I heard about this legendary journey and how it will take quite a bit of time to complete a collection and upgrade the precursor. I guess in my head I thought I would be getting much more in-depth legendary weapons.

Ones that stand out for me are ones that really have their own flavor and do something different. Juggernaut, for instance isn’t like all the other legendary weapons. You actually change over to a metallic look. This kind of makes it easy to notice when another player in PvP or WvW weapon swaps but its still a nice effect. Predator is the same way. You get a unique aura that really shows the weapon and your character off. I noticed that Nevermore kind of did this but maybe not enough. The ravens flying around were pretty cool but it seems like there needs to be more or maybe form a dark cloud around the character when the staff is wielded.

One thing I would also like to add is that without seeing legendary armor, I can see why maybe they didn’t go too crazy with effects. I’m just curious as to what others think.

TL;DR version: Like title says, the legendary weapons don’t really look like what I would expect from a legendary journey. They don’t really feel that unique and kind of just appear as glorified BL skins. However, I do understand they might be holding back from going all out because of technical restrictions or legendary armor.

ALSO, I don’t want to discredit or put any of those who worked on these weapons down. I just wanted to provide some feedback.

Feels out of place for a heavy in WvW. On the fly stability and the lack of stun-breakers hurts a lot (one stun-break on Shiro is your best choice but I haven’t enjoyed Shiro for zerging). The double heal skills to make up for it a lot but its a lot of button mashing and I often find myself getting tangled up trying to find the right buttons to keep myself alive.

My setup: Glint + Jalis legends. Hammer + Staff. When running around, I would use Facet of Elements for the swiftness and as soon as we got to an enemy zerg, swap to Jalis. I would double tap Facet of Nature for the added boons (boon duration doesn’t mean much so I don’t upkeep it plus upkeep skills have gotten me killed more than once) and lay down Inspiring Reinforcement for the stability for allies behind me. I found that if I dodged while in the stone road of Inspiring Reinforcement plus take the trait, Enhanced Bulwark that I could get about 3 stacks of stab but they would more than often wear off before I got to the enemy zerg. Hammer 2 was my best bet for massive damage with hammer 3 (“leap”) and 5 (Drop the Hammer) being good for use after empowers/rallies. I would also switch to staff for Renewing Wave (4 skill) during empowers/rallies as well which helped quite a bit. Renewing Wave being heal + a blast finisher is a huge help which is why I chose staff over the other dual wields such as mace/shield, mace/axe, etc.

After getting down what I thought would be the ideal build for WvW I tried playing around again with other traits and legends. It was much harder. Mallyx was interesting. The heal was nice as well as the leap from Unyielding Anguish. I found that Pain Absorption and Banish Enchantment weren’t great but did help in some situations. More PA than BE.

Suggestions: Facet of nature activation change. Remove swiftness and add in maybe 3 stacks of stability and a stun-breaker instead. This would probably be OP for PvP and would need testing. I think removing the passive skill Naturalistic Resonance for the +50% boon duration might be frowned upon by dungeon/raid/fractal runners. Boon duration and healing power are both pretty lame at this point in time. Nobody really cares to run builds around either of them so I could be wrong or maybe I’m wrong that people don’t run those kinds of builds.

TLDR. Revenant is pretty tanky if you want them to be however the lack of good stability and stun-breakers make playing frontline with the other heavy professions hard. Its a lot of button mashing to get similar results to that of Guardians and Warriors in WvW.

I don’t really see confusion being a problem except playing the cheese PU mesmer build. When it comes to zerging, I suffer from retaliation and soft + hard CC’s like chill, cripple, and daze way more than confusion.

Hard to say without having the Engineer elite spec. Hammer + drones could bring some pretty interesting frontline zerging opportunities to the table for them. Rangers are the same way. They can longbow down commanders but they don’t really have any other roles than that. Again, that could change with Druid.
