Saying those collection are long term golas is like saying that legendaries can be easily crafted without TP or Mystic forge. (i guess really few players drop a precursor or all T6).
Is total Bull.. nonsense
The usual bad attempt at rethoric to defend something extremely badly planned.
Not to mention it would take something like an year of farming (something far Beyond the most grindy mmorpg ever existed) RNG, for a reward you can get in 30 min without rng (timegated maybe but for a week or so).
To be honest.. your just one of the reasons F2P / B2P games exist… ANET know not everyone likes to look at the game further down the road than after they finish their dinner, so they place carrots in front of us all that give us a choice.. work for it over time or buy it.
No one is forcing you to do the collections, nothing within the collections or their subsequent rewards are required for you to continue playing the game and the option is there to buy whatever you need should you so desire.. forgive me if I am wrong but I don’t see any gun being pointed at your head to warrant being so put out by this non-issue.
For all we know this may be a tester into something more substantial.. like our long overdue pre-cursor scavenger hunt, but if you think that will ever be just a simple WP to map collect a shiny part.. ding! you now own a pre-cursor, then you need to prepare yourself for bad news early… ANET need to make money, it has to, so these things are likely there to see how/where it can be utilised to do so. If that hurts your feelings then don’t play F2P MMO’s cos its how their business models have to work in order to keep it going. Perhaps a monthly sub MMO better serves your gaming habits .. but even they are beginning to implement cash shops as well now.
Put yourself in ANET’s shoes for a second.. now would you like to see a million players logging in on a concurrent basis regularly for a year because certain things in game have given them a portion of interest/goals etc whilst also playing the game .. or would you like to see a million players logging in for a week grabbing everything they need then disappearing until the next patch to rinse repeat.. then come back in a years time and take a look at your books publish your findings, I would hazard a guess ANET would prefer as many players to stay in game for as long a period as they can.. hence the carrots that are frequently put in front of us and the fluff in the TP alongside of those carrots.
As I have said previously though.. the only thing I can see warranting a little bit of narkiness is they actually spent quality time re-skinning the trash items for all this when perhaps it could of been better spent on other more necessary things.

Edit: but they seem important. Some of them even got updated icons with the feature pack!
I really don’t see the point of the OP’s whine.. I mean it’s not like every other MMO out there doesn’t have a trash loot object within the their loot tables.. its supposed be a middle ground between killing a 100 mobs and getting nothing, and killing 100 mobs and getting the best the loot table has to offer.. it has a value.. its worth something.. think about how many porous bones you got today, this week, this month – pretty sure it makes a half decent stash to supplement things like WP costs throughout your time in game. So not really seeing the issue except maybe the OP wants top loot every time he kills some trash mob, which just isn’t going to happen… as for taking up space.. its a non issue imo… just an excuse.
But you last comment in your reply is maybe the bit that I can feel a little narked over.. I mean all those trash loot icons got some precious time/love spent on them for the patch, when other more meaningful issues go ignored.. again. Glad it helps make the NPE feel all easier though.
I don’t know, maybe they were meant to be long term goals and the purpose of them isn’t just to buy everything off the trading post. That would be my guess.
I guess it was always inevitable.. no not the collections achievements being added in game, or the ensuing whines about them… I mean me agreeing with Vayne wholeheartedly on something
All seriousness though OP, are you in some kind of hurry that you feel the need to have to buy your way to the achievements, its not like its really going to make any difference to your game if you don’t get them achievement chests this week.. or next.
ANET have to at least try to find ways to keep players in game, this is one of them, legendary Weapons another.. who knows these collections may develop into something more akin to a real scavenger hunt system.. “Pre-Cursors” anyone?
I wish I had thought more on it when I kept getting "Rotbeards Treasure in every other boss chest I opened the last few weeks prior to the update.. now I cant get it at all… reminds me, I must go whine about the price of it now on the TP….
Happy Hunting though, or at least remember to tip your bank manager at Christmas if that’s indeed the route you want to take.
If this has been mentioned before then please merge this, as I couldn’t find a topic on this.
So I completed this tonight after getting the Fractal Spoon, now I don’t know who this achievement is aimed at to be fair, if it was for new players then they would have no chance until they where level 80, given that 2 of the Spoons are in high end zones per say, 1 being the Teq battle, ( good luck up levels ) and the other being Fractals, ( even better luck up levels )
Anyway the rewards where as follows
Greens
1 Mighty Soft Wood Focus of Hobbling
1 Mighty Soft Wood Longbow of Serpent Slaying
1 Mighty Magician mantle of the Lich
1 Mighty Soft Wood Focus of Hobbling
1 Mighty Swindler Gloves of the Afflicted3 x Mentor’s Tome of Knowledge ( can only be used if you are under level 80 )
Exotic
1 x Initiates Ring ( level 20 – selectable stats )So the question I have is, given that at least 1 zone you need to be level 80 or the very least level 70+(if you have an understanding guild to carry you ) why are the rewards for sub level 80 chars, this collection is 100% pointless for anyone who has max toons, is this a way to force or try to force players to go back and make new char’s and suffer that new level system?
Where as I didn’t do it for the reward, I did it to race a friend to it for fun, some will not be happy at this reward at all, and it will fall back onto the rewards in this game for time spent are lacking, maybe next time put something in that someone above level 80 can use.
You kinda answered your whole question.
This feature pack is really all about pushing low level rewards.. new items for low level use, but requiring that low level to stick with the game long enough to actually obtain the reward in the first place.. so of course they want you to go buy another slot to make the reward useable .. rinse repeat and the hook has been firmly struck into the lip and they are reeling you in.. level gating, skill gating, reward gating.. its all aimed at alts.. .. but I am thinking the backlash from players longer in the tooth with GW2 will either ignore it or walk away.. closely followed by these so say new players that wanted this delayed playstyle…
I am beginning to think within 12-18months GW2 will be gating progress and usage much in the same way other F2P MMO’s do .. like my favourite laugh a minute SWTOR cash shop.. congrats you have killed TEQ.. however as you are only lvl 65, please purchase an ingame TEQ token to be able to receive your reward for this event… or please purchase lvl 80 content pack to be able to enter ORR.. etc etc.
Something about this feature pack is not sitting well with me I will be honest.
humorous, clever rhetoric
Why, thank you, good sir.
Re the subject at hand: I, personally, don’t want to give up, but at this point I cannot help but feel it is what is expected – perhaps even desired – of me, by the perpetrators of the game.
See the smoke and mirrors of your wording. Perpetrated, like a crime. That’s evocative, but it’s also misleading.
Au contraire, mon frère. It would seem I spoke with great clarity, for you instantly grasped my meaning! I do indeed feel that what anet is doing to this game is a crime. Not like murder or insider trading, of course. Merely a misdemeanor, in the grand judicial scheme of things. A crime, nonetheless.
Carry on!
But it’s not a crime, even if you want to compare it to one. It’s perfectly legal. Anyway, I only responded, because you accuse me of using smoke and mirrors.
I’m using reasoned response to stand against what was pretty much a riot. Many have calmed down since then and we still haven’t seen all fixes/adjustments yet.
One final word: metaphor.
One final word: hyperbole
Using the language to make something sound far worse than it actually is. Many on this forums do it.
That could of course work both ways… just saying
I have noticed something as well.. almost like the 2 or 3 lined ANET error message appears very briefly as you click on a WP or such on a different map, then it gets hidden as the splash screen comes up and changes to the new map splash screen.
Noticeable stuttering issues since the patch
in Account & Technical Support
Posted by: Bloodstealer.5978
Yip.. not just a single map or so.. its everywhere in game now… WvW was poor earlier (no queuing so maps were not anywhere full), EotM was laggy, field of ruin was pants, plains of Ashford was terrible… if it were just me lagging, freezing, stuttering, DC’ing then I would be the first to hold my hand up and say .. crap internet connection, but its happing to whole groups, and many players on maps at same time.. map chat is just too busy with players discussing it.. I cant even go to Timberline Falls now, as soon as I get there I get DC’ed within minutes… its simply a mess imo.
I made the comment in chat earlier that its making SWTOR performance look good now.. funnily enough quite a few agreed in chat D
Well I am sure ANET will look at it and see how the same players continually try to find a way to mess it up for everyone else.. so the timers will get pushed back or DR increased more all in the effort to deter, instead of hitting those players where it hurts them most.. account roll backs and perma bans…
Instead all that happens is they screw over the event, ANET eventually nerf it (weeks too late) and those same players go find exploits, “grey areas” elsewhere and send it viral across the whole plyerbase until that gets nerfed – pretty soon nothing in game will left for players to small scale farm… but those same players are allowed to run through the game continuously without fear of action an free to continue on in their search for new ways to incessantly exploit the game in some way.
I’m curious to know who took part in “over a year’s worth of research”
Was it Western or Chinese audience? What was the defining factor that tells them players didn’t find it enjoyable in the previous iteration, and why did that lead to prolonging certain aspects of the game in it’s very early stages?
Would players play more with this current setup but eventually still stop playing, just at a later level? (The assumption here is that the gating becomes redundant if that same type of player is going to quit anyway, regardless)
If that demographic was the US/EU market, then it’s most likely just metrics speaking, if it’s the chinese market, then it’s most likely just a cheap way of “explaining” why they made the change even if it’s not really created for our demographic.
Also: Did this not come up AT ALL – like, not even a whiff – during the years of work on the game, internal and external testing, (I can only assume they did some general market testing) as well as a bunch of BWEs? Were they so oblivious to it back then?
Most companies don’t talk about testing. Why would they? Why should they?
I’m pretty sure they were having problems keeping people after free weekends, which is why they haven’t had many. It’s a lot of work for relatively little return. Logic would say that those weekends aren’t people who are complaining about Arah being bugged. They were complaining about the leveling experience. They didn’t buy the game.
Anet probably tested it on US audiences, because if it’s been going on a year, the China game wasn’t far enough along to test it. My guess is the China stuff was implemented the way it was because of the testing too…and since the Chinese players who are already playing say they don’t like it, I sort of doubt it was made with China in mind.
Colin says more people played longer with this system than the others. He says they’ll watch it and if it’s not the case they’ll change it.
Of course the China game was far enough along.. you think it wasn’t planned right back when the game was also being planned, developed, “TESTED”.. cmon be serious now. If this wasn’t thought through at the time of development then its a pretty short sighted approach.
They don’t just pop a light bulb over their head on Monday and think “China” next month, get some tests done in US and see what’s what.
The game market/player market in China is different to US or UK etc.. of course they tested it over there and likely the results were poor.. but how much of that relates to low level game across their global market .. well I guess we wont know and that includes you I am afraid, but making low levels more grindy and gated now, combined with changes already added at higher levels, sure does seem to start to fit the Asian game market trend imo… perhaps its what is the preferred requirement so ANET decided to jump on board in an effort to make a few more $$$.. nothing wrong with that, but at least try to be honest with ya playerbase not place veils over the dialogue.
The gating complaints are mostly complaints because people don’t know you can do most of what you could do before at level 2.
Oh, you can still do most of what you could do before at level 2? You mean, like, Skill Challenge? Personal Story? That kind of stuff? Is that the stuff you can still do at level 2? Can you still unlock all of your weapon skills at level 2?
Most of the stuff that people were complaining about. Now, there are a few things where the bar was moved like weapon swap and elite skill, but Anet tells us that the time it takes to get those things through actual play has remained the same. I don’t find, considering how fast the leveling goes, that I’m unlocking things any slower.
I know the people who only look at level numbers, instead of time spent getting to something, might think this is a terrible change. But you know, I like going through the first 15 levels quite fast and having most of what I had unlocked unlocked.
There are differences, but not as many as people make out, and adjustments have yet to be made.
Look everyone, a new system and it needs adjustment. Far different than saying this is the worst change ever and can’t work.
People who say that are going to lose because testing is more important right now than the opinion of people on the forums.
Someone is obviously pushing for his productivity bonus this weekend…
Opinions.. hmmm.. that little statement Vayne makes me chuckle.. your awfully full of them as well tbh, or are you saying ANET should only consider yours and other like you who prefer to keep polishing that shiny glow around you.
But yes, things do change.. constantly and I for one am all for a bit of change, when it’s truly warranted, but the low level gating on top of crafting gating at top end.. just all starts smelling foul to some players.
Personally I am not bothered either way although having just tried out the low level stuff, I find it rather boring and certainly wont be enticing me to go make new alts to push through it.. I wonder if the metrics will show just how many players no longer want to buy extra toon slots, run up more alts, spend more time in game, but instead sit on what they have got, reduce log in times to coincide with new LS, content patches then log out again.. rather than keep coming back to run new toon…. I think there is a lot more behind all this than what I might know but also that YOU think you know.
OH NO!!.. whatever will we do, no SAB still .. .. I know lets all hang out in Rata Sum and do a storm dance, or maybe a RIOTto force them to bring it back.. that’ll work!
Gees… so it all begins again.. get over it!
SAB probably doesn’t fit their plans for a little while, but “IF” they decide to pop it back in game then I am sure they will let us all know in due course… or maybe we might just log in one day and be pleasantly surprised, but until then take comfort in the fact there is a plethora of other similar threads to “OCCUPY” your time whilst your parked outside the entrance waiting for the doors to re-open.. .. either that or find something else to whine about sheez.
Too bad these don’t go up to Ascended quality. Still, they have the infusion, so it’s not that bad.
Yah, except they (ANET) really screwed them over by not making them level 80 (only level 78) you can’t add a level 80 enhancement, you can only add level 60 as well as the infusion.
That is really is a incredibly poorly thought out (????) decision. They should be lvl 80, not 78!!!!!
crafted gear tends be slightly better stats for its lvl/rarity than the normal stuff you find in game.. if they allowed us to then craft lvl 80 packs with the same or slightly higher stats, then it would make the packs you obtain via karma vendors like in CS, Straits etc pretty much obsolete so they have gone with a slightly lower level and lower upgrade slot.. but you do get the infusion slot as well so as others have said its likjely still the same if not marginally better then you lvl 80 counterparts
What I cant understand is the stat combis on the chef exotic packs.. Dire stats choice has the same as Dire+Rabid and there is a 5 stat pack that actually only gives you 3 stats .. did they screw the combinations up?
(edited by Bloodstealer.5978)
Not to mention the countless times you just mysteriously loose target and end up trying to kill the supply crate the other side of the map… for me its always been one of the worst targeting/camera systems I have come across in any MMO I have played.
Add to that I now seem to have to remember to use a my elite skills twice at a time to ensure they actually go off.. at whatever target its determined I am now hitting.. .. there is just no fluidity in firing off skills this last 3-4 weeks.
Lastly clones, minions etc.. what’s the point no matter how many times they are supposed to attack targets they just prefer to stand around and count butterflies instead.. maybe that’s why the targeting has been forever screwed.. we need to stop and count the butterflies and fluffy bunnies instead.
True or not, if this was the case they would certainly deny it.
Again though, it makes no sense for it to be true. Why would you pay for people to say nice things about you on your own forum where you could simply remove the not nice things?
As far as conspiracy theories go, this one fails the Occam’s Razor test by a huge margin.
Positioned posters don’t just post on their own forums…. sure you can remove things on here you don’t like.. on others sites – no so easy.
ANET don’t pay me in coin but they shower me regularly in cuddles and infractions…
OP.. as if ANET are ever going to come out and admit to something like that, but there are certain posters who are in pretty much every thread and every forum section and on an almost 24/7/365 defending the game, the company and playing the white knight expert for everything GW2 etc – so I can understand where your conspiracy beliefs have been triggered.
Every MMO forum has their positioned posters though, just gotta consider it the norm and move on.
What complete nonsense. Were these “thousands of testers” 6 year old children or people that drool and still need to wear diapers? I’ve never, ever, EVER seen players struggle to grasp the fundamentals of this game or even most other ones, and GW2 happens to be one of the easiest MMOs to get into and that’s even comparing it to some of the earliest ones.
This is a major upset. Either they are lying or they tested people with less than 70 IQ, and I’m serious about that.
A few angry threads cropping up is not always a cause for action; ALL the threads cropping up being angry? Map chats being filled with upset players? That definitely is.
Your testers were ignoramuses or nonexistent. The experiment has failed, that is all there is to it.
I’ve seen people fail to get this game, even a couple of smarter people. It’s designed for explorers, not follow the arrrows type. After years of being conditioned to follow an arrow, they end up thinking the only quest in the game is the personal story.
It’s not that rare to see a post where someone says I must not be leveling fast enough because I’m not up to my next personal story quest, what have I done wrong.
And if you see a few posts like that, you certainly know people who don’t come to forums are experiencing that too.
But is that cause to restrict weapons/utilities and traits from them? And do they immediately stop and not continue playing because they don’t have the recommended level?
I can understand they could be thinking they missed some quests or something, but the hearts are all over the place and so are the map markers for points of interest and vistas, not to mention in-game chat .. but to assume they don’t understand the basics of the game is insulting really, how did they get through the first story mission then if they didn’t understand skills/abilities etc?
You seem to think most people like and use map chat. I haven’t found that to be true. I think an awful lot of people solo MMOs as ridiculous as that might seem to us.
I also think that not everyone has the same level of understanding as others. As I’ve said in other places, I have a friend that was fine in DDO and even Guild Wars 1, but Guild Wars 2 confused him. A lot of it was lack of direction.
He wanted to know what he was supposed to be doing and the game doesn’t tell him.
Honestly I blame WoW clones for dumbing down the genre and training and entire generation of people how not to think.
Sorry Vayne, much of what you bring into these kind of threads makes a lot of sense, but being a long serving DDO:EU player, if players can grasp the mechanics utilised in DDO then GW2 is mere child’s play.
I accept that over the last 18 months DDO has also re-evaluated its QoL within the new player/expansion experience and as such the character builds, class trees, skills have eased on complexity a little but MMO’s with that kind of diversity in build, multi-classing and skill mechanics is still far more hungry on one’s IQ than anything GW2 throws at us. So I have to go with what seems to be the general consensus in this thread.. its either a smokescreen or the survey/testing was no where near adequate or worse never actually happened.
Don’t get me wrong, I have absolutely no issues with ANET trying out new ideas/concepts in order to try and extend content QoL, heck I don’t even care if some things are really just a carrot trail leading to the gem store (afterall its what has to happen to keep the bean counters fed), but that post the OP highlighted just smells a little to smokey for my liking, especially as they really have no reason to be – every MMO no matter what business model they put out, want players in game for longer, spending coin and at the same time try to bring fresh meat into the grinder routinely.
I am a bit surprised that more people aren’t upset about the poor rewards.
What surprises me is some players still don’t get it, that this is only a game to us.. its a business to ANET and as such they have to place carrots in front of us to try and entice us to part with some coin.
No one is forcing you to do the collections, no one is forcing you to buy gems.. especially as you can simply exchange some coin every now and then to build up your gem pots.. but no, players want easywin items as rewards.. use the exotics from the rewards to make money then buy your gems. its simple really if your not wanting to spend money… it’s not a race there is no winner or loser.
If the game fails to make money, then how long do you think it will be before any kind of content updates begin to get put back and then the bean counters back at HQ start to consider flicking off the power switch permanently… buying a boxset is only part of the business model and likewise part of your gaming experience.. but the key is you control the choices in game as to whether you want to donate some real coin to it or not.. nothing in the store is absolutely paramount to you succeeding in an event / dungeon/ frac etc.. its mainly just fluff to enhance your experience.
(edited by Bloodstealer.5978)
Not seen too much in terms of bragging by the “DDoS” freaks this past week.. maybe they got man-handled away by the boys in blue.
I would like o think its being caused by ANET setting up/testing things with the megaserver live in prep for the patch but either way its getting pretty annoying.. beginning to feel like I am going back a couple of years in time and playing another MMO with all these bugs and performance issues lately
It’s getting to the point where I can’t be bothered to even try to run many of the bigger events (let alone large scale boss fights, dungeons and fracs) cos the lag spiking at best sees you suddenly drop dead quicker than a lead balloon, at worse DC’s you and you might not get back on to the map instance or its all over, wasting players time and effort.
So many DC’s and lag spiking… there are just too many players being affected at the same time for it be classified as “our end, get a better ISP lalala,,,”
Well if the Mesmer issues are anything to go by expect a response/fix pretty soo … … ermm well actually pretty much don’t expect anything
While there are a few similarities to the F2P model, NOTHING in GW2 requires gems to play the game (ok, you can argue storage IS a must have).
As a player, I do not feel Anet has “crossed that line” the video discusses. I do NOT think the Devs have conversations about how to milk players of money rather than make a fun game. If you do not agree with THAT belief (you think Anet is intentionally doing everything they can to MAKE money with no regard for anything else), why are you still here?
(Note that last question was not directed at the OP, but every player that is posting in these doomsday threads).
Hate to break it to you, but of course the… “will this make money?” conversation with the devs (and the bean counters) happens … it has to, because the key to their business model is making money and the only way it tends to make money is if it is fun for us.. .. ANET/NCSoft aren’t in this for the charitable publicity.
But that said.. there is nothing wrong in what they are doing and I agree very little of what is available via the TP is actually needed to play the game, no one is forcing the OP or anyone to buy gems to get some new shiny fluff and the things that might be useful, like Storage can merely be earned in game with a little time and patience.
So OP… I think you miss the point of how GW2 and traditional F2P models differ… many F2P models actually block your progress through their game content/features etc, etkittenil you buy an unlock or similar.. so let’s not even give them any ammunition.
one question…
what happens if I have more copies of “account bound mini”?Let me guess, its that darn Jenna mini you’re thinking of?
Yeah I’m curious too.
And all them Mini Risen Priests.. .. at least let us forge the ones we cant sell.. such a silly idea to have no way of offloading duplicate mini’s that couldn’t be sold.. but yeah, I am guessing zero response is likely on this.
You miss the point.. I wasn’t saying the TP would be flooded with Ecto…
If I can just craft low level rare then I wont be needing to buy any ecto’s anymore.. its a lot cheaper buying low level mats or farming them in quantity then making the rares for salvage… plus when I salvage I will naturally replace some of those mats I have used.. therefore ecto demand will drop.. sure at some point the TP might begin to see an influx when players have gotten all they need and begin to off load for profits but that is the same with anything – fact is it is still cheaper to simply farm a load of iron etc make a rare, salvage and sell the ectos for more than the crafted item cost… whether the demand will be high enough though is another story but as the items will become so cheap to make the Ecto price could be cut in half and there would be profit to be made.
The low level rares you see on the TP currently are hugely over priced for the amount of time they are actually useful to the player but if we can now craft rares for ecto’s at even lower levels.. why spend on higher level rares anymore… the economy would fall foul by a slow up in demand for the higher level rares as players will just craft their own low levels cheaply and salvage.. so its could create a double whammy on demand imo.Bolded part is debatable though, and as I said before, due to lots of people trying to rush to utilize those mats for crafting rares, the price of the mats would likely go up, eventually putting you at a monetary loss to waste your mats (even if you farm them) on crafting for your needed ectos.
Even now, it may be a monetary loss for some rares.
Does that make sense?
Of course what your saying makes sense.. what I am getting at is.. you don’t have to buy those low level mats, they are easily obtainable.
In30 mins I can run around to at least 10-15 rich / iron / platinum nodes, log a whole forest of soft, seasoned and hard wood and collect all the mats from splash kills I need before I even consider running events, dungeons, buying from TP etc…and that’s just one ALT..
Now repeat on however many ALTS you have and within a few days you will have a stockpile of mats enough to make a shed load of low level rares for salvage/sale… and when salvaging I will get a % back which added to a regular short timescale farm.. just makes having low level ecto’s a silly idea… if you wanna buy those mats, I will gladly part with some I enjoy undercutting all those overpriced items on the TP
I think to be honest there is truth in both sides of our discussion anyhows.. its all down to player choice/habits.
@OP.. are you serious.. your really miffed at things like BLC’s and the in game currency exchange rates.. ooh c’mon.
Firstly the Gem Store is just full of optional fluff.. none says you must get BL Chests to progress through the game and keys can easily be obtained without the need to buy any.
You say they could of been actual reward chest.. well guess what, we already have them as well as champ loots, trash loot etc …. what other reward chests do you need.
Of course the exchange rate has rocketed.. the in game wealth at the start was very minimal.. 2 years later its a very different animal and as such the amount of gems available with a much reduced profit avenue for the game… so of course the rates have moved as has the demand to use the exchange .. it serves two purposes – it makes money that can then further support the game and 2 – it is a money sink, which every MMO needs within its economy.
Anyone with half a brain for business understands there is always ongoing costs.. do you work for free, do you sit at your own hamster wheel to generate the power to run you PC, do you pay to keep your office warm, do you supply your own PC and equipment, do you maintain it yourself, etc, etc etc.. you think $30 a pop from pays for everything for the life of the game.. see sense please… no one needs to see the numbers and figures, its common sense.
After all that do you believe ANET/NCSoft to be a charity, putting out GW2 for us to play when we want without a need to see a return on their product… honestly.
The best way for a B2P/F2P business model to survive is to place carrots within the game and guess what rewards and optional fluff are some of the key elements to ensure they do.. otherwise lets go back to shelling of $10- $20 each per month like the old days, then wait 6-12 months for updates (sometimes longer) and then hope they can keep the machine oiled and running while we still complain about every little dime they make behind it.
Show me an MMO that has no grind within it .. you forget a grind is what you make it.. XP is a grind to some, making money is a grind, gaining achievements, gear, cosmetics, etc etc.. everything is a grind if you want to look at it that way.. I prefer to think that certain things are there which provide me with a goal.. nothing in game has a race tag attached to it.. you get nothing for being the first to wear a new shiny.. if you want it bad enuff you either have to work for it hard or casually or .. pop your credit card number in box and take the easy win route.. then come back and complain there isn’t enough things to do in game.
OK so Ill just go craft a couple of hundred low level rare items every hour to get me some ecto’s.. .. you seem to think ecto’s only drop from rare stuff you find along your stroll through the maps… I can sit and craft/salvage low level ecto’s to my hearts content. safe in the knowledge I could sell the ecto’s for more than the item was worth and still build up a supply of mats to remake more items… silly idea imo
Go put some work in like the rest of us have to, is all I am saying, instead of looking for an easywin.
Why would you though, when you could pay less and just buy them?
You can already craft rares that are level 65 or level 80. People just don’t do it in mass quantities because the mats are not cheap to come by. The only motivation is for the sole purpose of trying to flood the market with extra ectos.
And it would probably be the same way with this suggested change.
I still kind of disagree with the ecto idea for different reasons, but this notion of it flooding the market – I’m not “buying” it.
The low level rares you see on the TP currently are hugely over priced for the amount of time they are actually useful to the player but if we can now craft rares for ecto’s at even lower levels.. why spend on higher level rares anymore… the economy would fall foul by a slow up in demand for the higher level rares as players will just craft their own low levels cheaply and salvage.. so its could create a double whammy on demand imo.
(edited by Bloodstealer.5978)
Have y’all forgotten that drops aren’t the only way to get rares? Rares at level 35 and on up can be crafted by all the professions. (Here is the lowest level for armorsmith. This is the helm, the whole suit can be crafted also: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Gladiator_Helm)
If ectos could be salvaged from level 35 and up crafted gear, that would most definitely affect the market.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Armorsmith
Rank Rating Gear Level Variations of Armor Name
Novice 0 – 74 5 – 20 8 Fine, 6 Masterwork Chain
Initiate 75 – 149 25 – 35 8 Fine, 7 Masterwork, 7 Rare Scale, Gladiator
Apprentice 150 – 224 40 – 50 7 Fine, 8 Masterwork, 7 Rare Splint, Gladiator
Journeyman 225 – 299 55 – 65 7 Fine, 7 Masterwork, 8 RareReinforced Scale, Gladiator
Adept 300 – 399 70 – 80 9 Fine, 9 Masterwork, 10 Rare Barbaric, Gladiator
Master 400 – 499 80 20 Exotic Draconic
Grandmaster 500 80 19 Ascended IllustriousFair point. For the sake of argument, aren’t they kind of pricey to make though? I mean, they usually sell for around 60s-1g+ a piece. I know the price to make them isn’t quite that much, but it’s still not dirt cheap.
If we’re being realistic about how this would affect the economy, we also have to take into account the price of mats for crafting these average yellow items going up as a result of the increased demand from people trying to craft them for ectos… which would probably stabilize quickly to a point where you’re paying more to make the item than you would get from selling 1 ecto.
So although (in theory) it could flood the market with a ton of ectos, the benefit from obtaining them through crafting wouldn’t necessarily be as good as it sounds.
True, they can be a bit pricy to craft. The lowest level (35) helm requires iron (easily farmable), wool and T2 mats. The wool would probably have to be bought, but the iron and T2 mats could easily by farmed for those who want to craft to get ectos.
Sorry Astral, hadn’t read all the way down at the point I put my reply in..
just to add.. wool is pretty easy to farm across various maps while grabbing iron.
Only lower level mats that I tend to be slower at accumulating is Cotton and Linen (like everyone).. though tbh I don’t put much effort into cotton anyhows.
If we could extract ecto out of low level gear their price would drop to about 1 silver, making your idea pointless.
Again, why do you think this would happen? Of the number of rare drops in-game, I doubt more than a tiny fraction are low-level. The increased supply of ecto from this change would have a negligible effect on the economy, but would have a huge impact on my feels while levelling alts.
I have learned to very rarely comment on these things as youll almost always be viewed as “The bad guy”. Anyway, heres my go at this one.
ArenaNet, You have utterly disappointed me this time! I have supported and endorsed your game since Beta of GW1. I am disappointed in the fact that you have found it acceptable to do nothing for your long time veterans and focus purely on the concept of enticing other individuals to spent the initial $30 to buy the game anew. I have also purchased this game for 5 other loved ones. Therefore I have bought a total of 6 game accounts to have others enjoy it with me therefore enriching my experience.I personally on my account and my fiance’s has spent over $1500.00 gems and all we get after this long 3 week absence of new content is stuff for new players that you’ve already had the resources for as it was released on the Chinese client during release. We also got colors for our commander tags (which required very little coding or thought on your account). You also announced Multiple pvp and wvw perks. Earlier this year when you took this amount of time off for this reason (Feature pack content). You at least came up with some amazing changes. I am not here to rant, but I as a player have noticed that you have become more business oriented than fan oriented. Maybe this is due to UBISofts grip on you but loosing long time fans in the name of business is a loosing battle as you can see by comparing the amount spent by fans who just may leave due to this change of direction, and new players. New players may or may not like your game enough to stick around.
I am not trying to yell at you or disrespect you, but the money that 1 loyal player who likes your game will spend is worth at least 30 new players (and that’s just a rough calculation based on 3 per 100). I have never had a precursor drop but you gave them to people on the Chinese servers automatically.
I can prove all of this by telling you to look at my account and seeing how much I’ve spent.
Maybe Ill continue to play for now (until Everquest Next comes out) or maybe you have a loyal fan who loves the world of Tyria and its content, who will continue to support your game as long as it doesn’t reject them. =-)
ROFL .. .. I can’t stop the tears from running down my cheaks.. this has to be one of the funniest posts I have had the pleasure of reading on the GW2 Forums… Cheers
I can’t resist asking but as your such a long standing loyal Guild Wars player… when did Ubisoft get involved in Guild Wars 1 or 2 ???
Secondly.. $1500… have you actually played the game or just spent 2 years strolling through the Trading Post search facility…. thanks for supporting the game so admirably though, the bean counters will be sure to mention you in their Christmas roll of honour speech this year I am sure
Thirdly.. I for one am glad to see that ANET are still trying to rev up the new player sign up.. its a competitive market place these days.. when GW1 was launched there wasn’t another game on the market with the business model they put out, and I would like to think they brought a lot of new ideas to how MMO’s can be designed, marketed and supported .. you seem to forget, its a game to us but its a living breathing business to ANET/ “NCSoft”.. if they don’t promote their game, give it some new boots every now and again.. then can they rely on you to keep shelling out the £dollars each month to replace what new players bring in by just purchasing the game each day/month/year.
Fourth – Sure I think the feature pack lacks a little from what we have been told so far.. but instead of throwing out the veiled insults, maybe tell us what you wanted to see.. I am pretty sure no matter what they included in the feature pack release there will be just as many players who wanted something else.. so what would you advise they do.. apart from bining any opportunity to add new players to the roster???
Just out of interst how do you know what 30 new players will spend over the same period of time you have been here… I am intrigued how you come up with these assumptions?
Automatic pre-cursor.. source please.. not that I really care if they got one or not tbh…
I am sure Everquest will be all too happy to take on board your investment.. then how long till the next MMO takes your fancy?.. but I am sure that ANET are sat here reading your post fearing the worse, that you really do leave the game.. bang goes this years Christmas bonus I guess boys and girls.
All this and you still don’t know what else the feature pack is due to include yet.. tune in for future info .. you might have more to cry about then.
Wipes yet another tear from face before continuing to ROFL.
(edited by Bloodstealer.5978)
Well earlier, chat certainly got tasty cos players were trying to complete the event rather than leave one of the champ icebroods alive to exploit the reset timer.. I would of thought that was reason enough, let alone the unintended amounts of champ loot players are raking.. but I guess ANET prefer to let those same players keep doing the same things over and over across the game without any action, so we may as well all do it from here on in and see where goes.
I’ve been playing for about two years now and I’d agree that there isn’t enough end-game content. Sure they may have stated that this game was meant for casual players but they also stated that they wanted to avoid a grind experience in the game and look how well they stuck to that philosophy. From the GW wiki let’s take a look at a good argument for more content:
April 28, 2005 is when GW Prophecies came out.
April 28, 2006 is when GW Factions came out.
October 27, 2006 is when GW Nightfall came out.
August 31st, 2007 is when GW EotN came out.
August 28, 2012 is when GW2 came out.It is now August 30, 2014 and we have had hardly any new and exciting content and there is no sure sign of expansions. Guild Wars 2 has a steady player base and the developers have stated that they are always working on new content for the game.
So what is this content? We’re nearing the point at which GW2 has remained fairly unchanged in the time all of GW1 (and all of its expansions)came out. Living Story, in my opinion, is hardly new content as it has released hardly any new map content, simply reused old places and added way too much on cliche npcs written like a fan-fiction novel more than GW lore. Factions and Nightfall brought new and fresh ideas to the GW lore and LS is trying way too hard to sell itself perhaps as an attempt to get players involved.
Maybe they have been working on expansion, which would be understandable if one pairs their lack of consistent new content with their apparent constant content development. Once again in my opinion, I really do feel they should stop releasing stale content and start consistently releasing new things that people could actually agree on as legitimate new content.
It’s not so much a feeling of entitlement as it is expecting the developers to stick to their own standards of content releasing that they set long before GW2 ever came out. GW2 has been amazingly successful and it’s really sad that it’s been relatively stagnant all this time. Agree or disagree, those are my opinions on the matter. OP has some legitimate reason to be upset.
Your opinions are noted.. not necessarily shared, but noted… although I am sure the OP is referring to lack of endgame.. … expansions don’t mean endgame.. they mean, errmmm.. expansion. – new skills, races, mechanics, maps etc etc.. the upcoming feature pack along with LS perma content is an expansion when added up over say 3moinths.. but it may not be the kind of things you personally want to see in an expansion, but that will happen no matter how content expansion is brought into the game.
Added to that we just don’t know yet what is coming later this year, what is being planned to be worked on further into the games life, heck we don’t fully know what’s coming next month yet.
However, it does not get around the fact that GW2 is not really about endgame or gear grinding.. .. what grinds they have in the game are totally optional and not required to be able to complete a dungeon or a world boss or WvW or PvE… that’s a choice thing only you can make in game. The only thing that becomes absolutely necessary is Ascended gear with A/R slot for higher level Fracs.. and that content facet is.. optional
Let’s be honest many things in any MMO can be can be considered a grind depending on how you personally look at it – XP, loot, coin, gear, cosmetics, crafting, achievements etc, etc.. even endgame can be considered a grind depending on one’s view of the game.
What is the point of getting the fully ascended gear?
For Pve Players, besides looking beautiful and the feeling that you did it, it serves no purpose. You will do just fine without ascended gear in the current state. maybe try harder in fracs.
In WoW for example you had to get the best gear because if you didn’t, then you couldn’t do the end game raids…
Im not saying WoW is better, It just gives you this sense of progression while right now Gw2 simply don’t.
Surprise surprise a WoW player wants WoW gear treadmill… wondered how long it would take for the comparison to enter the thread…
The point of getting Ascended gear is….. ….. ermm you don’t have to get it, its optional, something that is not forced on you, not needed for PvE per say and is just a choice thing you need to make for yourself.. I am really not seeing what your problem is.
Progression doesn’t have to be about best in stat gear grind, progression in GW2 is more about cosmetics, if you wanna take your gear to a slightly higher level then Ascended is the door you need to open, but there is really only one facet of the game that you absolutely need it for and only because of the A/R infusion, but that content is optional as well.. so you need to ask yourself – is GW2 the game for you or are you best jumping back on the gear treadmill and panda trains I guess.
Wow….I saw this whine coming.
Give ’em cake and someone wants to complain about the size of the box it came in….
Except guilds already bought their cakes… they are just having a portion of their cakes taken back and forced into going on a diet … see what I did there.
Doesn’t affect me or mine.. . in fact my guild will likely see a sizeable reimbursement for the upgrades on our original guild bank, but other much larger guilds may not feel the same… but business is business and GW2 is a business after all.
I’ve only done this event twice, the day it came out and 2 days ago, it was being farmed, but the event did not fail, infact the commander running it said, they would not let it fail, as they always complete events, and sure enough we completed it,
I guess it restarts every 60 minutes ( could be 90 as I wasn’t there for the start ) Anet before you hit the event with the nerf hammer making it no fun at all to do for those playing, just make it that if the event fails it has a 2 hour restart timer, if it is completed it then restarts as normal.
I can get behind this sensible logic
We are already working on a fix for this event chain. In the mean time, please report players that are being overly toxic (chat) during these events for “Verbal Abuse” as this is a violation of the User Agreement and Rules of Conduct.
I wonder if Anet will ever learn that it is them who are making the toxic environment…
Players want to farm. It will continue until you either:
A. Ban every player in the game and shut down the game
B. Remove every mob in the gameMaybe figure out what players want and give it to them instead of trying to rule your game with an iron fist of depression.
Great idea.. so how long do you think it will take for everyone to have farmed 8-10k champ bags and be stacked fill of everything they ever need to make, sell etc etc… makes real sense to give players everything they want on a plate.. the effect will mean less cash coming through the game and back into the game.. and the content begins to diminish even further. Or ANET then bring in more aggressive DR and money sinking to rebalance what players are easily farming out of it… I personally think they probably already are to rebalance the massively overfarmed Blix explolit instead of banning players for their poor event design.
(edited by Bloodstealer.5978)
Hey, Arena Net.
Why don’t you guys just go ahead and take a trip down to Orr and nerf all the champs into vets, so that way it doesn’t become toxic, like the Queensdale train? Because after all, let’s not drag it out and let every. single. place. in the game and let them become toxic. While you guys are active, let’s dose up the Frostgorge train too. Because sooner or later someone is going to come squealing and crying about being called a bad name or told to not kill the champs out of order so everything will run smooth.
When there are no places left to farm and all the T6 mats are so high that you have to buy gems then convert it gold, maybe the players will grow thicker skin and quit being babies and just shut up and follow the train and quit ruining what’s left in the game that’s still good.
Orr champs ver,y very rarely unleash any toxicity.. event exploitation and blocking progress in areas of the game most certainly does.. Orr champ train runs legitimately on a max level map mixed within a range of other small events, large event chains and temple chains… I have yet to see anyone scream abuse at others for killing the ooze while Melandru is on or Giant while Arah is on etc etc… there are more than enuff things going on to spread players and zergs around.. and occasionally they come together for a big one.. nothing wrong .. BLIX exploit was the only issue .
Let’s never fail gates of Arah either, cause that is clearly an exploit, eh?
Who cares that noone can do the event that unlocks their traits.
Right there is a fail statement… You might wanna go an try it.. you don’t need to fail it to get your trait.. that mullarkey was patched pretty kitten soon after it came into game… you wanna fail it then fine, but the rest of us will carry on completing while you wait on the sidelines and missing all dem trash mobs dropping lootz.
I would say it is… then at some point a new gem store item to increase the vault size for guilds… or another guild influence level etc with a silly amount of guild xp needed to get it…
Seen it happen in other MMO’s tbh.. its an easy win aimed at larger guilds that will likely struggle with just one bank spread amongst its 500.
The way I see it, the LS is actually being used to test out new things..
Scavenger Hunt would be awesome, we all seem to agree on that, but a Scavenger Hunt done designed poorly or that impacted on other functions/mechanics of the game would only server to send the forums into another frenzy.. .. so LS has been giving some small scale scavenger hunts to test the water and so far its not been so bad imo.
At the same time the LS is providing a 2 weekly inception of new content.. new maps, new gear, new mobs, new crafting… take that over 3 months worth of LS and you start to see more of an expansion actually coming through.. then also add the new maps and the feature pack, bug fixes etc.. seems like were getting a fair amount of expansion albeit to PvE mainly…. Granted that is where there is some room for criticism as other facets of the game have been too long left to fester, hopefully the incoming feature update will help throw some much needed QoL to areas like WvW, PvP until they finally decide what they intend to do with these parts of the game.. but yes they need to start communicating their ideas more.. doesn’t have to be “WHEN? or WHAT” but we do need some insight as to ANET are considering for future content/mechanics.. open up some discussion around your ideas not the other way round.
OP – Legendaries are supposed to the pinnacle of our weaponry cosmetic achievements.. much like the traditional “best in stat” gear treadmills we get from most other MMO’s.. they are not supposed to be easy to get hold of, but at the same time it was never mentioned it was a race to get it. In other words if you really want one or some, then be realistic in your goals and work towards them, I have been here since BWE1 and like you I never really bothered with Legendaries until maybe a few months back.. now I am busy gathering what I need, whilst running the game and having fun.
No one needs to buy anything or actually farm anything its all down to personal goals.. you want it fast then farm or whip out the CC and buy the gems.
Personally thought I find there are more than enough ways in game to make coin and farm loot/mats etc .. Dungeons, farming events (legitimately), TP flip, crafting and old fashioned farming of maps… I know not everyone wants to do it, so the credit card option is always there if you want to.
players forget.. its a game to us, but it’s a business to ANET/NCSoft.. aside from a box sale the only thing that makes money is the TP.. if everything in game could be farmed in a matter of weeks/months, then firstly our insatiable demand for new things would grow and grow but ANET cant work any faster ad to that if they aren’t keeping players in game then they are likely not going to keep the coffers very full.. content slows, game goes maintenance mode and the n lights out… Legendaries as well as other things are the carrots.. if you want them then you got to earn them or pay up.
That 2years after the game is released we have patch notes like: This X skill/trait/ability actually works now!
Yay!! Thanks Arenanet! Great work everyone!
Your not a Mesmer then for sure…..
Since everyone and their dog now has the com dot and it will be very hard to tell who actually has the qualifications once the acc wide com dot patch goes live I propose the following:
1) A small number next to or on top of your com dot in the map UI showing how many wvw skill points you have in total if you have your dot activated for everyone to see.
This way it will at least filter out the complete newbs of WvW who only happen to know how to farm 100 gold and show who is more qualified comparatively in raw points in case multiple commanders take to the field and you don’t know who to follow.
This should be something very easy for the devs to implement and be very informative to players in general.
And this proves what exactly.
That someone who has followed and farmed with a zerg for hundreds and hundreds of levels is a better fit for the role than someone with a handful of levels.. get real.
It proves nothing.
Every commander that tags up (at least for the most part) do it with a view to helping their server in WvW, to help at least try to organise a little better or give the zerg a path to follow.. there are very few other tactics utilised anymore.. add to that the karma train levels from EotM.
The tag and rank has very little meaning in this game as is.
Also, if we go with this type of attitude then why would any player new or old want to even bother tagging if players like you can basically stand around and ridicule them cos of there lack of rank.. everyone starts somewhere.. those new comms seeking experience may just turn out to be the next best comm on your server.. I am guessing your one of those players that only wants players inn group with 7k AP’s cos its the only way you can win thro a dungeon or someone that wont accept you in a group unless your gear checked first off…
I seriously hope the devs place this idea in the relevant trashcan.. the game can do without the ensuing toxicity if it does get given the light of day.
We even ran Blix meta a few times and only a single soul chirped in demanding we stay out the circle… awww blesss
…
…not seen any commander ignoring events, defence or otherwise and farming the lootz
Still talking paradox. Not ignoring defence and running a few times Blix meta doesnt fit.
Good that you got your exploit back with your Toxic Trolling. Have fun with it and now take your right to say its farm and take your right the others are exploiting.Edit
..Cursed Shore is running as intended once more..
And funny that you few Meta Exploit farmers are taking yourself the right to say how GW2 is to play like you alone designed this game.
Yeah reduce this game for the playstyle of the few noisy Toxic players.
My last post here
GG Anet.
Wow you really are kitten.. how is running the event Meta the way its design to exploiting it.. you really have a strange ideal when it comes to exploiting mechanics of a game.. its simple you run one event, you complete it.. next event is triggered.. following it along the event course and eventually you get to the end of the meta.. where in any of that is it exploiting.
Now lets play it your way.. run event, move onto next event, farm all champs but purposely fail the event in order to respawn the first event re-farm , repeat, reset, re-farm, repeat.. .. yeah that’s obviously how it was intended for the event meta to pan out… but hey at least you and ya guildies can apparently go farm your ever so secret other spots cos you so awesomesauce.
The main problem is that a few meta chain exploiter were angry about the blix farmer because the blix farmer interfered there chain exploit. So they took themself the right to troll arround.
Still, commanders and players are running arround and ignoring the defence of a position like pen/shelter/jofast for the purpose that the meta chain will start and they will get more reward is the same like the Blix farm.
I hope this patch will also affect the meta chain exploit, else it would be really unfair to do what a few toxic players want and give them back there exploit while the others are just getting a red card.
This reminds me times in GW1 where the few so called mighty white knight BALANCED PLAYERS in pvp called every other build as GIMMICK or OP. Falmming the other builds in forums as noobish op or whatever and caused them to be nerfed to deaths.
In the end GvG and HoH was reduced only to balanced build because of the nerfs. And HoH and GvG got so onesided with the result that HoH died. Then builds like Hex builds and spikes got a buff again but it was to late. HoH never got back the faivor like in the first year.
Back to the point. Because of a few Toxic Trolls farmspots like FG are getting nerfed. And the big population is getting ignored.
I hope the same mistake wont happen in GW2 like in the pvp of GW1
Lols.. not on the Cursed Shore maps I have been running today.. been almost like the Orr of old.. all running events across the map, calling out events/champs on their rotation, dropping off to run Arah, Melandru and Grenth .. seemsto me that Cursed Shore is running as intended once more and not a single bit of Toxic influence to write home about… even the defence events completed without any drama.
We even ran Blix meta a few times and only a single soul chirped in demanding we stay out the circle… awww blesss
Ya see when the smokescreen got blown away and ANET saw sense, the map was able to get back to as it should pretty quickly.. not seen any commander ignoring events, defence or otherwise and farming the lootz is as busy as it ever was there.. you just can’t let it go with your name calling and hate… move on and try to have fun for god sake!
(edited by Bloodstealer.5978)
It doesn’t matter anymore now…it’s been patched because the 12’s cried about it. So, time to move on. I’ll go back to our private farming with my guildies only again. No biggie.
@Hayashi – you are right about one thing…Blix definitely was NOT the only farm around. But we’ll keep that as Guildies Eyes only information as to the other farms.
My Time Played: 3771 Hours for 771 Days. 80% of that time FARMING!!!
All I can say is.. bye, have fun, don’t let the Cursed Shore door hit you on the way… too late!
What I find so interesting is you would go out and buy a game, invest in it in order to spend most of your time farming the same things over and over and over.. all power to you though, I appreciate your sacrifice in the name of economy (that’s the reason you all exploited Blix apparently , right? ) … .. still I guess fun means different things to different people… thanks for coming here today though, av fun and be looty
This is actually pretty effing ridiculous. They’ll fix a bug that benefits player’s piggy banks like it’s the most important thing on earth, BUT I’M STILL GETTING STUCK ON SIEGE IN WVW AFTER ALMOST 2 YEARS OF THE SAME BUG.
:(
Your still using siege after 2 years.. … that more worrying imo
I thought WvW had left siege/defence behind in favour of zergwars and tower flip.. we must in different WvW, cos the one I play only throws out sighs when they see a row of AC’s hiding behind the wall instead of actual fights.
Don’t get me wrong I much preferred the old WvW when defence was a tactic, but lack of reward for defending over zerging through and tower swapping kinda changed the dynamic of it somewhat, hence I don’t really engage in it much these days
@islarose.7356
What total rubbish.. I and many others have run CS for like forever and its far from a ghost town .. in fact the hardest thing about CS for months now it knowing which blue tag is coordinating the champ/event runs…. thankfully they are pretty much all in the same zerg so its merely a case of following the doritto and its been like that now for quite a while, without toxicity, without exploiting and lots of that “community working towards a common goal” healthy mentality, that apparently can only exist when you join in the Blix exploit.
I get it, your upset your loosing your easywin exploit… #crymeariver
Count yourself lucky ANET are taking this pretty lightly, because many other MMO’s would of thrown the banhammer down on such behaviour in a heart beat, so enjoy the ill gotten gains you have been able to exploit from it and go find your next easy win spot.
Cursed Shore has more than enough legitimate farming opportunities across its surface without the need for some cheap failtrain toxic ground spoiling it like it has… Cursed Shore has become a ghost town since the Blix exploit went viral with the exception of your toxic paradise at Penitent/Shelter.
On the subject of communication, the “Community team” seem to pick and choose, another example being the “Mesmer bug” thread where it lists 40 issues and nothing from anyone about any progress, that is a whole profession basically unplayable the way it is supposed to be right there and no communication on an important subject yet someone jumped right on the Fix for the Orr fail champ train !
In fairness I am pretty sure most MMO’s jump on exploits and issues creating toxicity pretty quickly regardless, certainly the ones I actively spend time playing.
I agree though, the Mesmer thread is well overdue some response and actions
which does not have a subscription fee, does not force-bait you into the cash shop
We must be playing different games then.
In mine we got a MICROSCOPIC bank (shared with all the 5 character slots available) where I can’t even store two full different sets of gear without having to cough up money.
How to go completely off topic… still I will bite
Guess you thought having no subscription fee every month meant you cud play the game and have everything you want on top of it as well for nothing.
Though in fairness nothing you have said, you really have to pay for, just a bit of time in game, saving ya copper then xfer it for gems and buy the upgrades.. not difficult.
Otherwise whip out moms credit card and support the game and buy it.. its a matter of choice, your not forced to spend any money on anything if you don’t want to.
Back on topic… its still all very slow in GW2 land.. guild related stuff can take an ages to appear.. in fact even being in a guild can take some time to become true
TP is slow (but that’s nothing new).
Only thing I would say is avoid putting stuff in/taking stuff out of guild banks.. seems things go missing for an awfully long time .. still waiting for some Mithril and elder wood I took out almost 30 mins ago now.. beginning to think someone stole the Mithril to sell on and the elder wood to sift through for Foxfires.
Yeah guess they are upset about the Blix fix incoming.. ….so they wanna DNS the game again… could be a long slow evening in GW2 land
but having these kind of exploits
But I guess the simple fact is there are always some that want the easy way to everything and want it with minimal effort and time.
Still talking about "this kind of exploits while you used yourself one?
The Penitent/Blix/Shelter/Jofast chain has always been popular.. scaling those events to spawn champs has always been a good source of loot, without the incessant need to exploit it to fail/reset endlessly.
To go the event pattern you mentioned all spots needs to be contested beforehand. Doesnt this show us that ppl intent to loose all the defence on that chain points to even get the chain? Example Blix is showing up after you loose shelter event.
Are you not beeing paradox. So you were using also an “exploit”?Noone was talking at Lyssa Trait cap or Grenths Trait cap about exploits so why now?
While the trait cap was implemented you needed to kill Lyssa to get the trait. There you need to fail the defence of Lyssa to even gain the possibility of trait gain. Is that a exploit.
Ppl were trolling with lyssa defence. They just succeded it because its an open game and the designers wants us to defend.I really dont get your point of exploits.
The only thing that bouthers me on Blix farm is that it took a range where alote of ppl are farming it. And that shows us a lack of FG like farm spots.Edit:
Same problem was with Grenths. The Grenths defence didnt give the trait pre patch. Players needed to fail the event to gain the Trait. Now the trolling started till the patch came. Was the Grenths fail an exploit?Lots of players with lots charakters didnt want to pay the 3g+ for the traits so they farmed the traits. And noone sad failing lyssa or grenths is a exploit.
Edited the Qutot display. Was not ok the way before
What are you trying to imply???…. I have never once exploited .. scaling is a legitimate mechanic in the game.. its a counter to avoid events becoming a 1 hit, 5 second push over by a hundred players beating on a single mob or trash mobs.. farming mobs by scaling isn’t the exploit.. failing events to circumvent the natural progression of the event chain in order to endlessly reset it, most definitely is… otherwise why are ANET going to fix it, they could just say its fine, its working as intended so please carry on.
Scaling Grenth, Lyssa or any event is a by product of having allowance of large numbers hitting the same event.. so to counter it, it gets scaled and those events are rewarded by an end of event chain chest if I recall and they don’t get purposely failed in order to get rewarded.
When the trait system was changed and certain traits granted for failing events, I think if you look back I was one to voice concern over such a poor design choice.. no event should be purposely rewarded better for failing than to succeed.. that’s ANET’s issue internally imo.. and they addressed those events in due course.
However, the trait unlock events were intentionally designed by ANET to grant the trait on failure.. ludicrous yes but that was the intended requirement.. that then cannot be considered an exploit, but yes you are correct and the same toxicity (call it trolling if it makes you feel better) began to emerge from it because players wanted to run the event instead of failing.. both outcomes were actually correct.. fail for trait unlock, defend for successful completion of the event.. that’s the fault of ANET design but not an exploit because players once they had their unlocked traits only sought to complete the event and I am pretty sure sure that’s why they got patched not because it was deemed an exploit…..
Blix on the other hand is a completely different proposition.. there was nothing to achieve by failing except to endlessly reset the scaled champ farm in order to exploit it relentlessly for personal gain in gear, coin and mats… not a one off achievement or reward chest.
Now if your saying that players are purposely failing defence events like Arah etc for a reason.. then yes you could be right in considering that an intentional fail.. so report it up.
Its that simple, there is nothing complicated to understand unless you are not wanting to see the exploit closed, in which case nothing anyone says will agree with you.
