@ Illconceived Was Na.9781

Actually everything I stated is/was true, but please try to clarify who is saying what in your responses.. I didn’t say some of the stuff you included.
- Arah defence was changed to allow players to be rewarded with the trait unlock upon successful defence not failing it.. check back on the forums for the long list of complaints and topics about the toxicity it created because of the split in the map community.
Then Blix fail farm was nerfed by ANET on the grounds of toxicity, but we all know they never thought it would be fail farmed to the extent it was so the toxic behaviour gave them a perfect smoke screen to avoid calling it an exploit of the game mechanics and a need to rollback/ban so many accounts.

Sure everything must have a chance to fail but nothing is supposed to be set up to fail on purpose in order to restart a chain of events.. those events will restart automatically after a period of time anyway.. the fail farmers just saught out their next target after Blix and Coil was perfect – ANET again used the toxic argument, but also as it wasa LS phase needed to be completed as well, but created a perfect way to try and close the loophole in their bad event design and so the failfarm saught out another, namely Jofast which utilises the same mechanics as Blix did and now causes the same amount of toxic behaviour aimed at players seeking to run the event chain to it completion – but of course we all know that the farm is a prize earner and is therefore protected at all cost so is carefully guarded and scaled up as soon as anyone see it starting. Only yesterday players were being calling f***ing c***s and similar for staying inside the camp and trying to complete it – in fact one person was told to go get cancer and die horribly just for starting the event when the failfarm wasn’t there – not sure about you but I think many of us didn’t buy into GW2 for that kind of nonsense. Yeah report them of course but we all know ANET do nothing about it anyway because those same players are there running Jofast for hours on end every day and were at Blix, Coil etc throwing out the same attitudes cos they think they have claim to the event…. in fact the only way things began to get the attention of ANET before was when the antifail trains began to appear and both sides went at it with a vengeance.. I am beginning to hope that happens again so ANET finally see sense and change any and all events that have the capacity to breed such discontent.

The Lore of the game has nothing to do with failure being a better reward over success of a chain that is just down to poor event design and a lack of care to do anything about it.
As for farming in general – there is World Boss rotations, there are temples rotations, there are a plethora of champs to be taken out on rotations across Tyria without the need for event fail exploitation and then adding a completely wacko chest farm across their newest map.
Whoever dreamed that idea must have a really shortsighted and boring outlook on challenging gameplay – reward yes for completing the vinewrath chain which we already have by way of a final chest and upto 4 bandit chests plus 15minutes of pacmania and various champs that pop up around the map, but oooh no that’ isn’t sufficient so ANET have a lightbulb moment and provide a chestfarm which has zero control on it – thousands of loot bags a day by each person if they stay around (which many do) – the map is a farmfest out of control which nullifies most map copies because they become full of farmers and with no interest in running the events except on occasion to get a few more shovels to keep the farmloops chugging… new players wont have a chance and giveup and join the status quo… great NPE idea there.

The OP is pointing out something that has been fixed in other situations: event failure shouldn’t offer better rewards than event success.

In this case, retaking a temple (after failing) is part of a chain (including a special ground-based chest) while defense is a single event. So, this would be less simple to rebalance than the Coil chain in Frostgorge, which provided more champs/minute if failed than during a successful chain.

It should not be difficult at all to change.
The defence stage just needs to be altered in line with how Arah was so players could receive the trait unlock for either the assault or defence phases.
Linking a specific reward that requires failure is just plain dumb and will always be prone to the creation of toxic behaviour, whoever dreamed up the notion of rewarding for failure doesn’t belong in an MMO creative position.
As for fail farming .. that’s is just simply down to not even caring about their game anymore, which is then further extended when looking at how the Watesofsilver map has become nothing more than a dig for gold event with large zergs of players running the loop all day long with each loop yielding between 30-40 chests in about 15minutes maybe less.. that kind of loot haul can only be destructive to the game as a whole – simply put its just terrible creative design… but ANET simply do not care about it they would rather put the time into ensuring the tooltips have all the spellings correct.

Dry Top had the better idea.. force players to run events in order to increase the reward tiers that could open up new items to buy and reduce cost of other items.. they could then simply add new items into the vendors as and when to keep the map interesting.. but no once players have their achievs in SW all that’s left is to farm chests cos the events are meaningless except on occasion when shovels are needed.

What they should have done is make the defend events progressively harder and frequent, so that they eventually will be retaken by the risen regardless of how many players defend them. Everyone is happy this way.

No what they should never of done in a million years is make failing something more rewarding than succeeding.. it’s just pure stupidity imo.

This is the reason why fail farming creates so many issues.

Failing something should not provide better loot, it should not reward your with x amount of champs that can then be ignored to let events fail in order to trigger a constant reset of the event.

Other MMO’s must look at ANET’s creative thinking around event design and laugh themselves to sleep its just silly season to allow a single event to be farmed endlessly and at the same time create toxicity across the mapchat because some players don’t want to fail things and want to succeed… yes Jofast is a prime example of this on Orr and Coil event was until they decided to changed the reset timer.. Blix before that and so on and so forth.
It’s not like there isn’t enough farming elements in the game already like WasteofSilver and ToT bags without the need to have this pathetic concept of failing something in order to be rewarded.

Zergs out of control?

The zerg exists because the game is designed for it. Take a look at world bosses. Go to a site like the following….

http://dulfy.net/2014/04/23/event-timer/

The fact that the bosses spawn like they do, the fact that such a website can exist, is the problem. If these spawns were random, unpredictable, and have multiple bosses spawning at the same time, this would make it harder for zergs to form.

It shouldn’t be about standing around at the next spawn waiting for it to spawn. It should be about going about your own business and OMG WHAT IS THAT COMING OUT OF THE SWAMP?!

It shouldn’t be about going on a website and finding out when and where the next boss spawns. It should be about the boss pre-event is up spread the word.

It shouldn’t be about following the order listed on the website. It should be about “what? Karka, Shatter, and SB events are all spawned at once?”.

Mix it up, shake it up, make it unpredictable, make players have to choose, etc.

That is, of course, if they insist on leaving it an open world event.

I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again. With the personal story you go to some point on the map and click on some green marker which puts you in an instance portion of the map.

These world bosses would be way better as raid bosses where you form a raid group, click on the map marker and face the boss in an instanced portion of the map.

As for WvW, that is a different beast. It’s all about the bigger blob and all about capping stuff. Only few places are defended for strategic purposes. Keeps for the purpose of the way points.

Camps and towers swap back and forth constantly because there is no real benefit in defending. You flip a camp and you take supplies directly from the camp. Same with towers if it has supplies in it. While taking towers that don’t have supplies, we have actually allowed yaks to drop off the supplies first then kill it.

Could not agree more.. I have always said that have an egg timer boss/event rotation is just lazy game development and it breeds lazy players that, as you say simply log onto a timer, then wp and #111AFK loot wp..
That kind of openworld concept make a mockery of it supposedly being a revolutionary concept.
Making these things random and unpredictable make the game more interesting and might actually populate maps at times other than when the daily zerg award is on or the timer bell rungs to let players know to wp there… heck to start with all they have to do is alter certain boss timer rotations to cause a clash of bosses and make players choose… but this is GW2 that kind of creativity is way of the radar.

Zergs out of control?

Bloodstealer.5978

These days at a world boss it is not uncommon to see an entire map’s population there (something like several hundred players minimum) and WvW zergs tend to be of similar size on T1.

i don’t know of a single place in PvE where you could see a zerg several hundred players strong. Perhaps in WvW if 3 server zergs meet in one spot (though i believe the WvW maps individual server caps are actually lower than on PvE maps,so maybe not even there). I believe the current cap estimation for PvE maps is somewhere around 120 people for soft cap and 150 for hardcap (i can be wrong , but i doubt i would be off by much).
That would put the biggest zergs at no more than a hundred people, usually lower than that.

How to miss the OP’s point in superstyle.. focus less on the numbers and more on the effect. The OP has a point.
With the exception of 3HW and maybe TEQ and Jormag every world boss event is no more than a 3minute washout offering nothing but #1111,AFK .. grab a coffee then loot and WP’ to next AFK event.
Then add the same issue to pretty much every WvW map, EoTM karma train and any map on the openworld event daily.. the game mechanics simply offer nothing to combat it, heck even most basic openwolrd events cant even upscale to warrant it being trashed in 30 seconds or less.
Yeah there is something to say for instanced events and raids at least they need some organising and possibly tactical nowse instead of button crunching your 1 key a few times before relaxing for the rest of event.

Sorry but ANET has a preference to make events more profitable to fail and farm endlessly.. completion was so yesterday apparently.

But yeah there has been a marked increase in the last few days of goldsellers and crapmail in game – maybe they know something we don’t???

Does everything need a knockback?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Bloodstealer.5978

Yip another classy mechanic that has never been implemented properly.
I don’t find it excessive in PvE even when some mobs can knockback at will it seems, can chain knockback, stun etc and then launch you off for giggles… it’s what we get in return that frustrates me.. like every knockback we hand out being immediately countered by mobs insta teleporting back to you and yeah they get to stay on the edge of a cliff rather than being pushed off.. balance at its finest.
Personally I have nothing against knockbacks, pulls, stuns or anything that makes it a little more interesting and dare I say challenging, I would just rather it be a little more balanced out.

Southsun Cove

Bloodstealer.5978

Why does no one play here?

What do you think are reasons for going there?

The veteran karkas have a guaranteed karka shell as a drop but there aren’t many of them around and they are spread pretty far apart.

There are barely any events on the map. One of which includes a oneshot mechanic while providing the same rewards as any other event. It doesn’t even unlock any useful vendor like some other events.

The only thing Southsun Cove is good for is Passion Flower.

So one of your reasons for not going there is that Karka shells are hard to come by due to the vets being few and far between.. but one of the reasons for going there is the Passion flowers.. which are like max 3 per map and don’t respawn.
The events are all centred around capture and hold mechanics the same as the wastes and I would hazard a guess this was an early attempt at bringing that thought process and organisational requirement into the game only problem is that there is so little activity required in between the events.
One of the reasons it’s not that popular as well is that the Karka Queen event has a long respawn timer and once you have it done once a day there is no point going back do the events and redoing the queen cos your only going to get a basic champ bag (and that isn’t a guaranteed drop either)… if it was once per day per character then it may entice players to come back more often.

But yeah the map is terribly underwhelming as if it was never really thought through properly by ANET and as a result is dead 90% of the day unless the new daily rotation lands on it.

How much will guild halls cost?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Bloodstealer.5978

Bloodstealer.5978

Unlikely to get any answers from ANET because if the answer doesn’t suit the player then there is evety chance players will drift away even before HoT lands.

My personal take on it though is that Guild Halls are going to be something that small guilds like my own are going to struggle to even get started on.

Anet have a gone out of their way since launch to develop content that is predominatly aimed at zergs, the large guilds and mass openworld organising rather than some good organised instanced content that scales appropriately to the numbers ..in doing so try their hardest to exclude very small / small guilds, private/closed guilds and solo players from such content.. so I am not in any way shape or form confident this new toy will inclusive for all.. let’s be honest some guilds are too small to even earn commendations now so logic says this will be another carrot dangling out of reach again unless small guilds either shut up shop, go rep for another guild or simply do without one of the most wanted changes to the game.

Bloodstealer.5978

Its a bug. — Therefor its temporary. — Totally acceptable.

No, it’s not.

They delayed this update a week and still pushed it out wayyyyyyy too early. Rushing updates is just dumb.

If it wasn’t enough time to at least test to make sure something as basic as chat bubbles/down state not being green, random male charr noises coming from my human female character, and the plethora of other problems released this patch then it’s pretty obvious they’re understaffed. Tequatl is no exception to this and OP has every reason to be uptight about it.

Total crap. Do you think for every patch they test every single world boss every time? If there were no changes to Teq, they wouldn’t have tested Teq. They are testing the things they change. A bug that creeps into one specific boss is impossible to track down unless they’re specifically testing for it.

Sure the OP can be kittened off that a boss is bugged, but saying it’s unacceptable is silly because software updates come with bugs all the time in every program, not just every game.

Software bugs are a fact of life. Saying they’re unacceptable is like saying mistakes are unacceptable. It’s like saying that bad dreams are unacceptable.

Annoying sure. It’s annoying. But expecting every piece of older content to be tested every time there’s a patch…that’s not realistic.

Pretty sure you have no clue what your talking about here and are merely clutching at straws.. .. of course they will check.. anything that has code derived, linked, etc can and likely will have cascading effects across the game and TEQ and any other source of the game effected by new mechanics, new stat variances, new textures etc will be checked.

Lagasaurus Teq is one of their prime events and should of been checked for bugs more closely imo.
Then again lag is not always indicative of coding issues it may simply be a server wide issue or at an individual level, but to say that there was no need for any specific area of the game to be properly QA’ed/stress tested after what is quite a significant update is simply silly season guesswork on your part.

Sadly though every patch single the dawn of GW2 at beta has appeared to lack that polish to its QA and as such we become the test server for them to fire fight on over the next few weeks… maybe that’s the way ANET prefer it but imo the performance of the game over the last 12-18 months or so has dropped off significantly.
Sure every MMO suffers issues, they are tricksy beasts and hard to keep well behaved, but GW2 does seem to me to suffer more than most these days….

BTW ANET fix the kitten inventory resize bug that been allowed to creep back in for the umpteenth time!!

Maize balm is a great way to make money. even with the slightly increased costs, you can still double your investment very quickly. There are plenty of spots to farm, and no heart requires killing only ambients so don’t listen to anyone who says you are preventing heart completion or some such nonsense.

The heart quest does in fact progress with the killing of the ambient rats and crows as does the “Indiscriminate Slayer” Achievement. That spot has always been good for players to get the 1000 ambient kills out the way.. so farmer whines will continue to echo out whenever they feel others have trespassed on land they like to claim for themselves.

99% of the time the farmers still get their ToT bag anyway, just that others get them as well at the same time.. is it really that big a problem.

I agree the chest farming is just getting out of control.. but ANET seem to like it that way.

However the shovel drops imo don’t need altering, but maybe add in a chance that there is no chest when you dig, just some old leather boot or porous bones etc… that way the shovel supply will dry up quicker and more players then have to run events to get more shovels – definitely DO NOT add shovels to vendor lists or the map will just become a mass swamp of farmers and afk’ers.. oooh wait, errmmm, it already is

Suggestion for Vinewrath Event (afk'rs)

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Bloodstealer.5978

Bloodstealer.5978

GW2 actually has a lot of casual players. It’s a game you can pick up and drop whenever you like.

It feels wrong reporting someone because they rushed off to go tend to their crying baby in the other room and forgot they left the game running as they sat down with their spouse to watch sitcoms.

Are you really this naïve…

Sure there might be an occasional incidental afk, but it is a known issue all over the event system not just Vinewrath.

Scaling is one issue for sure, but why should some afk’er be able to jump in tag an event for a second or two then afk for the remaining 99% of the event, likely die, upscale it for others but then reap the same rewards at the end.

Sorry but ANET’s inability to set out a suitable participation/risk/reward strategy has seen the game fast become nothing more than a zerg/ failtrain and afk fest.

I agree with the OP.. afk’ers are a black mark on the game, sure there has to be a short a grace period for sure to allow for unforeseen circumstantial issues, but after that egg timer has run dry they should be removed to their home instance and any reward status removed. If this happens more than “x” times before daily reset then an automated account wide penalty system is enforced, which increases the more time your penalised to the point that if your constantly abusing the system a GM then has the authority to levy a wider range of punishments including a warning/temp & perma bans.

Then we might start to see these leechers either stay and play or leave.

why are almost all the builds unusable

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Bloodstealer.5978

Bloodstealer.5978

depending on your goal, much more might be possible then you think

Power is only 1 of the ways you can use to buff your damage potential, and a lot of people ignore conditional (when target has conditionm/below x health) or weapons based bonusses, +5%, +10%…. even though they stack multiplicatively, also might is oftyen forgotten as an efficinet way to boost dmg for solo play.

Most builds are very viable, but most people just want 1, 2 maybe 3 main builds for pure DPS, if you look at WvW you’ll notice the variety of builds is much higher, people actually use condition builds for solo or small group play.

Not so though in PvE as the majority of people has been led to beleive zerk -meta- is the only way to play. Tis makes healing builds, boon/buff builds an unwanted stain on the set of people who are led to beleive conditions have no function (while they depend on vlulnerability, blinds, chill, stuns, dazes and weakness to stay alive.)

The difference between a zerk- meta and a speedrun group is the actual knowledge of conditions and applying them. DPS is partly gained by your build, but most is gained by efficiently supporting eachother.

OK lets tell the other 150+ players beating down on a boss to please work their conditions efficiently.
Sorry but I disagree with you.. the build diversity in GW2 is amongst the worst I have ever come across in an MMO in over 10+ yrs.
There simply is no need for Ferocity, Precision is more than enough. Healing Power sucks donkey and conditions builds are completely inefficient in PvE when Jo Bloggs the zerk warrior can make my necro conditions count for nowt.
Every class has the ability to push out a number of conditions whilst performing the tasks their actual build is meant for thus creating ineffective condi builds – simply put GW2 has inherently awful game mechanics when it comes to conditions.
The game is centred around zerk build 99% of the time, even much of the content is eered to this safe thinking to the point that bosses now have large condition invulnerability modes built into them (kicking condi builds in the face that little bit harder).
So yes I actually agree with the OP and others here.. the whole build diversity in GW2 (PvE) is a pile of Quaggan poop and needs a thorough rework by people that actually have a clue on what diversity does for an MMO…

Now they are, as other have said, just used for players to unlock skills, keep their armour/weapons stats appropriate to level and more likely skins/collection.

TBH tho, they don’t really have any negative effect in the game so not really worth worrying about here.

People angry over area map completition...

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Bloodstealer.5978

People can be dead weights in WvW all they want. They just shouldn’t feel entitled to assistance they haven’t earned, nor expect to be shielded from being told/reminded that they are dead weight.

If all this hurts their feelings too much, perhaps they should be the ones petitioning ANet harder, rather than trying to guilt trip and create forum drama.

I’ve participated in my fair share of forum posts seconding motions to either remove WvW map from the the journey of legendary crafting (or alternatively adding a PvP requirement as part of the process). Perhaps there should be more initiative from the people who actually stand to gain from this (no, losing 1-2 spots to PvErs doesn’t hurt much when it’s likely the other servers probably have similar issues).

The rest of us are generally unaffected by the presence of these people, and it is only because we are unaffected by their presence and continue to ignore them that they come on the forums to complain.

Pretty sure the only one here who believes they are entitled is.. you.
You seem to think its your god given right to be in front of anyone else in the queue that is running for map completion… ding ding wakey up! – WvW is PvE endgame content and is all part of the game, in which everyone has the same entitlement to run whatever they want, where they want and when they want – and there is nothing you can say or do that will alter that.
In fact it’s the kind of attitude that you have already portrayed in this thread that impact WvW worse.. why would anyone want to get map completion and then have the desire to come back in and learn how to contribute for their server having already met with your attitude.
Having run WvW since BWE’s I am yet to see anyone actually ask for help to get map completion in mapchat, but have seen many new players post here that’s its difficult to get it done because more often than not they don’t realise that map rotation often happens at reset and they can go grab parts they couldn’t the previous week.. ..then again there have been just as many posts from players like you cussing them for being there and taking up breathing space in queues that apparently you have entitlement over.

The Walk of Shame

I don’t consider it a walk of shame. I mean, death happens. I have found, though, that if I’m trying to res someone and they suddenly disappear to use the WP, it can be a little disappointing. You know, we were nearly there and poof!

Too, if someone is trying to res me, I feel it can be unmannerly to just up and leave… even though occasionally I do so because I can see they’re risking too much to help out and I want to make sure they don’t incur death because of me. With no repair fees, it’s a little different now and the guilt isn’t quite as high. Still, seeing the ground littered with people who tried to help out is a wee bit embarrassing.

For me, “to WP or not to WP” it has next to nothing to do with the loot or the rewards or the daily points. It just has to do with how it feels at any given time, what’s right for my situation, what’s right for the group and the overall objective.

I just make it a point to declare that during Tequatl, Silverwastes, etc. People should not be ressing the fulling dead and that the dead should WP and get back.

And that makes infinite sense to me.

The issue is why should 70% of the event populous put the effort in to get a successful completion and reward and the other 30% be allowed to lay dead for the whole event and then get the same reward as those who had to do it for them… that is of course if there is enough contributing players left to gain a successful completion.

ANET implement nothing to combat it and worse still you actually design content that promotes it , just like you encourage failing events to be more lucrative than actually succeeding them.. its completely comical that you see no real issues with it.

There should be a forced timer when dead.. 1min or you get booted back out to your home instance and loose your reward and locked out from map instance.
That way players will have to contribute in order to not waste their own time and get their loots.. but that concept or something similar is far to tasking on the creative think tank it seems!

Complaining on AutoBalance in Dragon Ball

Auto balance has nothing to do with the reward or vice versa. Or did you want some sort of reward tied to each match whether you win or lose? The thing is that this reward would end up being like Wintersday gifts where the majority of it was junk. The match average between 3-5 minutes (less if you hop and get lucky) so imagine how many rewards someone can accumulate.

Perhaps they could do a reward track like in PvP which is tied specifically to the activity.

Autobalance often kick you into loser team -> no win reward / no win counter.
Lose not rewarded at all.
Autobalance misused.

Auto balance is working as intended.. it fills live games before starting new instances.. so in a round about way it helps to reduce the “oh this team sucks, I’m outta here to get into a better one”.
Just how effective it is.. well that’s another story maybe.
Each game may only be 3-5 mins long but with players looking for the easy win there is always some that just drop and try to hotjoin a winning team.. so I for one am glad their is at least some chance of a penalty.

Personally I would prefer it if ANET implemented something more in line with the grouping time out idea.. you drop from a game before it finishes then you get locked out for a penalty and then get placed into auto balancing… WIN – WIN

It doesn’t always fill live games.

I’ve been on a map with only three of us. One dropped from my team and the person on the other team was nice enough to let me kill him over and over since my team had points already.

I’ve also been on a map where there were only two of us…on the same team. Other person left and then I was in the match all alone. Made for getting the achievements for power ups really easy though.

But that isn’t what he’s talking about. He’s talking about being on the winning team and then getting shunted to the losing one to balance things out because members of that team are bailing, having your win stolen from you as you are randomly picked to go over to the other side.

And I can’t blame people for bailing when I see so many teams with people just standing there to be killed over and over to get the match done asap for their two quick losses to finish off the holiday daily.

Well I have no heard or encountered it myself.. autobalancing as far as I can tell works to fill the short manned team with hotjoiners otherwise it would make no sense to simply take players out of full/winning teams without as much as a volunteer notification first.
However, as I said.. how effective the ANET auto balancing mechanics are is an entirely different thing and to be honest previous balancing of the mini games has always been pretty poor so it wouldn’t surprise me if what your saying is true.
However, I am not convinced that is what the OP is talking about.. in fact strangely enough I was having this very conversation in map chat yesterday as some player was feeling grieved that every time he dropped from a game he was being hot joined to a loosing/ short manned team every time – karma can be a kitten sometimes I guess

Personally I think its a poor mini game anyway so like many I jump in to get the two participation counts now I have all but the ludicrous 100 interrupts achiev done then forget about it until the next daily comes round.

People angry over area map completition...

If you are doing map completion in wvw while the maps have queues, you will rightfully be told to GTFO.

Other than that I see no problem with people doing map completion, have fun!

Players doing map completion in WvW, even during queues, have just as much right to be there as anyone else since it is indeed required for map completion. If you don’t like that perhaps you should lobby for removal of WvW from the map completion requirement.

You have the right to do map completion in WvW. You do not have a right to be shielded from being (correctly) told that you are a liability for the server.

Haha okay. You know it is funny. I’ve seen many threads over the years of people complaining about having to do WvW for map completion. One of the most common suggestions aside from waiting for a map to flip is to ask for help in WvW. I guess those suggestions were wrong.

If you think telling people to get lost or how ever else you want to phrase it is helpful for the community then go for it. There is one way to keep people from coming back to maybe benefit their server later in WvW, and that is to insult them and tell them to go away.

Yes, when the map is queued and people are doing useless things they’re going to be asked to be useful or go away. Feelings may be hurt. Sorry not sorry.

Perhaps all those “ask the commander to help you cap something” replies need to be appended with “please don’t make selfish individual requests when the map is queued and there are more important things”.

Maybe then we will have fewer black and white straw man arguments as well.

Clueless response is.. just clueless.

Map queues are caused by the sheer numbers trying to get into the map to play the game.. and sorry to hurt your feelings but Map/World completion is part of the game, as much as that might seem a little tuff to understand.
WvW is actually part of the PvE content base, perhaps even its endgame.. hence why ANET opted to place specific world completion requirements within it and no matter how that might hurt your feelings when your in the queue its a fact.
Not everyone has the luxury of playing 24/7 , they get to do the things they want to do/ need to do/ have to do in the time they have allotted .. so pull the self entitled thought from ya head and form an orderly queue, take a few deep breathes and you will be in map of your choice as soon as the hamsters have run the wheel enough to pull the server doors open again.

Well as far as (1 & (2)) – I agree with both Danikat and Mirta… so many other MMO’s prefer to have you run the same raid a gazillion times in order to grab that one shiny (though of course we do have similar things creeping into GW2 now by way of collection items.. I am looking at you Rhendak!!)
(3) – I guess your referring to map completion and the requirement to jump into WvW to get the last 10% ish done… well as far as I recal WvW is actually a PvE format rather than PvP but that’s kind of insignificant I guess.
But as for never being able to get the maps completed, I have to call that rubbish.
Ech map has a safe are to start from and many relatively close POi’s Vista’s to run to.
If however your server is on a fail week then its either a case of running alongside others or simply wait it out and at some point the matchup will see you in a different map rotation where you can then go grab the parts you couldn’t get to previously. I find reset night the best time to grab a hatful of the map pieces I need on my alts.

(4) I personally dislike the new daily format for varying reasons and saw no reason to change what they already had.. the reward tracks are fine for sure but the limited choices and lazy zerg style mentality that ANET seem to now want to reinforce turns me away from them, not to mention new players must find it pretty frustrating

That said, I’m starting to see more instances of events with no one calling the event in map chat. …

One of the original appeals of GW2 was the fostering of cooperation between players and the friendly community. But that feeling of cooperation and friendliness has eroded somewhat with the changes to the game over the last year.

It started with trait unlocks that depended on events that were triggered by previous events failing and other players being at cross-purposes. And now the ruined pve daily tasks that herd everyone into the same maps all competing for the same events or boss.

It started well before that once the Farm/Fail to Complete and Champion Farming styles play started to get more popular the community started to go downhill from there.

Actually that fun, friendly community is still there. Only a small percentage of loud irritable people ruin it for everyone else…and it really is a small percentage. But it’s like the old addage.

If you add a teaspoon of wine to a barrel of sewerage, you get sewerage. If you add to a teaspoon of sewerage to a barrel of wine…you get sewerage. It’s much easier to tear something down than it is to build it in the first place.

Why am I not surprised by this.

That small minority was big enough for ANET to take the stance they did with Queensdale… and the Blix exploit, and the Coil fail timer and.. the list goes on.
But now ANET have decided to reverse the way of thinking and go full throttle in implementing the same lame ideas into their dailies but now that small minority that sees the problem across any ma,p not just Queensdale, on any given day is too small an issue to be taken seriously.. get real Vayne and just stop advocating ANETS’s hypocrisy for once.

I am of the mind that ANET have basically given up trying to be creative and bring anything remotely challenging to the individual in the game aside from a few LS achievements that become so easily abused for a few gold.
The obvious light bulb that seems to always appear above their heads is how many players can we squeeze into one event, one map in order to obtain a happy medium.. yes 90% of everything in GW2 these days is zerg friendly, has zero challenge anymore and becomes lost in a myriad of particle effects… I don’t call that NPE friendly I call it creative laziness/lacking
Every single day maps become a war field of players crying “where are the events” so that they don’t have to do anything to earn their points other than rely on someone else to link a WP.. then that gets offset by those players then whinning cos the events are facerolled in 5 seconds and they couldn’t get credit for it.
Sure ANET wanted to be seen as different with their Openworld philosophy but this has just become a lame excuse for lack of creative, challenging content/mechanics –
WvW has been that way since month 1 and they still haven’t found any way to overcome it so PvE has no chance other than LS instances.
There is something to be said why many other MMO’s prefer to go have their content placed into grouped instances rather than mass free for all’s.. for one build diversity is much more varied than what we have in GW2, but then why have any diversity in GW2 when all you have to do is yell “events”, wait for a WP or Portal and stand there crunching #1111111 until your loot appears a few seconds later.

World boss events are another prime example.. supposed to be the biggest challenge on all Openworld events and they are rolled over in a matter of seconds aside from Jourmag, Teq, 3HWurm (at least there is a few hoops to go thro before it dies.. if it wasn’t for that and their extensive HP pool they would also fall into the faeroll category.

So back on topic the new dailies are simply poor imo.. yeah let map flip to cut 3 or 4 trees down, mine some ore and then go zerg a map for 5 mins. Then go jump in WVW spend 25 tokens.. not got any then run to the nearest crunch #111 for a few second then get your capture reward, guard kill…. mind bogglingly challenging stuff.

All it does it breed a player mentality to log in spend 10mins doing a few dailies sell or craft what you get then log off till the next day and eventually get your 20 laurels to bank… pfft rubbish imo

My question is this: What is the payoff for a non-Chinese version of the game?

On average? It is a wonderful gold sink.

Did we really expect anything different… every event now has the RNG element thrown in to create the money sink… Trick or Treat RNG for the Gwynny, Wintersaday rubbish and now the underwhelming Bash envelopes.. needless to say I poured way too much time, effort and gold into trying to get Gwynny… so this is one gold sink I wont be participating in. In fact as far as I am concerned the whole bash event is underwhelming not just the RNG loot envelopes… I loose interest in playing mini games that are so easily abused just to grab a win.

Laurels concerns

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Bloodstealer.5978

Sorry OP but like others have said.. we now get more Laurels per month than previously, then factor in the addition of daily laurel rewards from dragon bash.. I see no room for argument.

Fact is you came you saw you conquered upto the point you gear your characters in exotics (pats you on back). But Ascended items are not supposed to be something you can loot, craft and play with all in one day otherwise the game would be forced to have new items, new progressions every single week and that’s just not realistic, no matter what MMO you play.
You say your an intensive MMO player, but you you decided the game couldn’t satisfy your needs so you left… what made you think that coming back would be any different. Every MMO whether its B2P, F2P or P2P has to have hooks to try to encourage retainment.. many have gear trains that never end, others have hunt the special snowflake items… GW2 has cosmetics with some small gear stat progression but every MMO has one thing in common it makes certain things harder to obtain/achieve in order to keep you coming back for as long as possible.
Is that so hard to understand.. you want it so you gotta earn it – and that unfortunately takes a little time on occasion.

OP – Why on earth do you worry about something so insignificant as the AP Leaderboards..
C’mon it’s not like AP’s are actually worth anything – they are simply an incentive to do things other than sit in LA and play the TP all day.
The AP rank chests are all but junk most of the times anyway, but the bits that can be valuable to your characters/account are achievable for everyone, its not a race, there is no big prize and everyone can get to max AP in game eventually.

Sorry but all I see is “It’s not fair, I wanna be the special snowflake on top of the tree”

Well there are no retry motes that I have been able to use, but I finally got this one in the bag a few days ago.
The issue I have found is that there appears to be a speed boost inherrant in the ranger which is taken from a downed health scenario, but you don’t need to be in a downed state to pass it on.
This happens even though all trait points are reset to zero, all weapons are base stat greens with no sigil, all armour is base stat with no runes and no food etc used.. literally nothing which can pass on boons. Even put pet to avoid combat mode but still get the same downed speed boost passed on at 75% with the coloured aura/vortex phase. – so I am thinking its an inherent bug that is able to manifest unless, like me you get lucky once.

Once outside max range the damage is zero so there is an addition the same as what it will be at 1000+ and I don’t care if my arrow is arcing or dropping like a lead balloon.+

I main a ranger and have noticed this as well so maybe its worth a check out all the same.

Not sure what this means? “There is an addition the same as what it will be at 1000+”
Are you saying you do more damage once you go past like 1500 range?

Or maybe you are saying since it’s hard to hit people at 2000 range you should have a damage increase. There are a lot of people that would disagree with that. But that is something you would address in another forum as that is not a bug.

No that’s not what I am saying…. hence why I said that past max range the damage is actually zero cos ya know, your outta range., but like the OP, I am seeing hits past max range .. so as a bit of tongue in cheek I merely said there appears to be a nice little bonus damage somewhere at the end of that 1000+ tier and beyond

Not a bug. Arrows arc. Differences in elevation matter. It’s not just Rangers that benefit.

And the skill is tiered. 0-500, 500-1000, 1000+. Range over 1000 doesn’t add any additional damage.

Once outside max range the damage is zero so there is an addition the same as what it will be at 1000+ and I don’t care if my arrow is arcing or dropping like a lead balloon.+

Sorry you guys might have crap internet but I dont. This speed test is done from Singapore(where I am playing from) to California. There is not reason why I should be lagging. If I can get the IP to JQ, I can do a trace route but I cant find it.

The download speed is to the left side of the meter and the upload speed is on the meter itself.

So is another reasons why this is happening

That is really only telling you your line speeds, that’s not the whole story.. I have a 50Mb connection and on a any given day I can get D/L of around 40ish and no apparent issues but on a bad day I can still get the same D/L but be hit with all kinds of issues.. some might be server side some might be your end its not all about speed.

What makes this such a terrible challenge is that its at the end of the lair and one slight error in the vortex/colour stage and you have to rerun the whole kitten think over and over.

I have been running it on my ranger.. put all trait lines to zero, bought a bog standard green longbow with nothing more than an accuracy and bloodlust sigil on it and was happily doing the fight… then just like that 6 or 7 attempts previous, I get him down to like 15% he gets his nasty purple pool up, I grab a shield, kill the trash mob, get coloured and run up to the vortex to become fragile, kill crystal and ding….. achievement disappears.. rerun completely again… WHY IS THERE NO REDO clickie like with the current LS episode!!!

Either this is bugged for me or something on longbow skills is booning the vortex… the only skill I can see is Hunters Shot which I have no need to use in there.

Yep.. try running the “Alight in the Darkness” part of the personal story.. when you get to fight the risen giants at Camp Blight, you kill one and everything stops spawning, leaving in you waiting for 5-10 mins for it to get to the next part..

I guess ANET didn’t want to have new players go hungry or thirsty so it provides nice long breaks in order to allow you to go get refreshments…

Oh and let’s not even go near all the bugged events across maps now we have our daily map zergs to do!

Selling on the LFG

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Bloodstealer.5978

People that are selling dungeon runs are inviting people to their group to do so. Thus looking for a group of players willing to join and pay for the run. They are not using the LFG tool as a grey market.

Of course they are.. they might be joining a group but they still pay gold over an LFG system that is not intended for sales of anything.
As for joining a group to run the content – that’s complete rubbish 99% of the time anyway, they join to finish the last 1% of the end fight and grab the chest, its not a dungeon run at all its paying for a chest with tokens etc.
Another issue is the selling of portals for jump puzzles via LFG – sure you can join a group, just like joining a group to buy the guys legendary, but your not running the content your merely paying for a portal to the chest… and all 3 of those sellable features that regularly appear on the LFG are open to abuse and can leave players out of pocket with nothing to show for it once the scams are finishes and the advertiser logs off.

ANET just like to hide behind clouded veils and double standards, just like they do with openworld event exploits., their ToS are a joke and not worth the time they took to write up imo.

LFG tools are for grouping to run content not end chest openings and item sales period and should be insta bannable.

This is why the commander tags should’ve been earned instead of bought. A mastery system like in WvW would’ve been good. It could’ve required X number of events and some achievements, which could be completed in both pvp and pve, as well as requiring gold to purchase.

Yeah cos the wvw mastery system sooo correlates to a players ability to lead anything…. the system was a fail as soon as it hit the game and has only been further dismantled since the introduction of EoTM.

The only thing it shows is how well a player can sit in a zerg and crunch the #11111 to gain levels.

I would much rather they introduce some kind of peer system that awards favour, but even that kind of system would be open to abuse.

Simple fact is unless openworld events of this nature become instanced, alot of the content will continue be abused and amused in any which way it can.. whether it be afk leeching, trolling/griefing and more often of late failtraining to abuse the reset/reward mechanics.
Only thing you can do is send details of the players to ANET via the request form in the support section and pray ANET don’t file it in the “very important information storage” .. aka trashcan!

… all those scraps and occasional gear I got from participating in events I came across. becasue everyone was playing everywhere – finding events was easier, since they didn’t end in 5 seconds from everyone zerging everything in the same area. …

but it absolutely SUCKS for pveers right now.

Oh yes that is true! So many have complained in chat about events ending before they can get to them and it costing them more for waypointing (remember low level new players do not have all that gold yet or some even more than 1 silver yet if even that). Some players have even recommending NOT telling anyone about an event just so that their group of friends can actually get to it in time to get at least a couple hits in before it ends.

Yes there are many complaints in map chat and for new players running the maps for the first time its a genuine turn off I would say when they are constantly unable to get involved in the events when they are near because with a few swings of the zergs arms the events are over .

However, the same whinning is seen from veteran players also getting shut out of events and all I will say to that is…. you should of paid more attention a whiles back.. if you choose to sit there and cry" where the events" and rely on others to link you waypoints, then expect to be disappointed.
Here’s a novel idea, get of one’s backside and go d find events and quit whinning you can’t get credit cos da zerg is too hungry for blood and you blinked.

But in general I firmly believe all this map shuffling is so poorly thought through, almost to the point of laziness. This zerg mullarkey they keep dreaming up for the game is beginning to make GW2 a waste of time.. there is a reason why many of us prefer instanced events and a scaling system that actually works to good effect.
No event should be able to be face rolled so quick you cant even see the mobs spawn, its a totally lazy way of game design and I bet other MMO’s are laughing so loud right now seeing all this negative feedback around a change that was never needed, wanted or thought through.

Sure the dailies are not hard, but hey are limiting for low levels and its making maps a complete trainwreck zergfest every day. ANET couldn’t even be bothered to promote the events to scale even though they knew they were going to be channelling large numbers of players into them over and over.. well the one’s that are not actually bugging out repeatedly that is.

It’s nothing but a train wreck and I think players will get bored of it sooner than they think. Sure we can decide not to bother with the dailies but the maps, gamemodes etc that it involves will still be a mess regardless of whether we’re running dailies or not.
