Yeah, no, ANET is no one’s God. Anet is offering something fun in return for some money. If you think for one second things wont change once the money flow starts changing, and can’t see that happening already, well, you keep preaching to your ‘god’ then. -smh-
You clearly have no understanding of the metaphorical.
You should find a different game. This one won’t please those who can’t grasp metaphors. :P
I dont have to look. I have more games ready. I wanted an MMO that’d last me for years like FFXI did. I’m hoping GW2 will be that game. You, and everyone else who wants to spout ‘just play another game’ changes nothing, i promise ANET wants my account and the money it generates between me and my wife. They want me to be good and pay, i want them to be good and deliver. This thread is about that, and your ‘metaphors’ or whatever dont contribute to the discussion.
Actually I disagree.. you seem to lack the ability to understand what is actually being thrown back at your argument, therfore you plain disagree and everyone else is wrong and your right…. that is why you will never be settled in an evolving game.
Living story means for it to run as part of your toons life through Tyria… unfoirtunately life does not happen all at once and often stalls, meanders then picks up pace again.
You keep making note of your of paying customer status.. from this I deem that you are quite happy to throw coin at the game to maybe accelerate your growth within Tyria. If this is the case (and each to their own, I agree) then no amount of content or speed of release will likely satisfy your playstyle. But in that you are actually the one that’s being played along, not others that disagree with your notions. You are the ideal ANET customer, hooked in and hungry to burn thro it, spend coin readily in doing so, then whine when the pace dies off a whiles… as a F2P model you are what keeps ANET ticking the most, so enjoy your moment in the forum suns.
Patience, grasshopper.
I think it’s really cool that this is intended to continue to play out over time. I understand wanting to see what’s next RIGHT NOW, but I can go off and do other things in the meantime. I think it’s good that there is time given for lots of players to experience the unfolding.
Thats the point of releasing content in my opinion, stuff i can do now.
Out of this major event/proloque/story, I’ve gotten a laurel i can get once per day(lol), and two events. It’s nice to be able to run off and do other things, but short of farming fractals for yellows, there’s just nothing left for me, and those like me, to do, you know? It’s like they are pushing off there more serious players for the ones that cant log in for a week to do the events. Hint: People who spend more time in game usually spend more money in the game. I know its not their intent to run the money off, but with nothing else for us to do, i’ll prolly end up on another game.
Typical of any new MMO… MMO launches, players rush to try and get to the end of the rainbow, only to realise MMO content does’nt keep up with there mile a minute expextations, player whines on forums that lack of content is killing the game, player makes statement on forums that he/she will leave if more content does’nt get pushed through NOW!.
Oh then next content batch lands, player burns through content, player lights up forum with whines that new content is bugged and not tested properly………. rinse and repeat scenario’s over and over till MMO shuts down servers for good or the END of WORLD Mayan theory comes to fruition….
I have been taking screen shots of my recent fractal groups where I ask “has anyone else noticed significantly less loot drops from chests?” and EVERY SINGLE PERSON has said YES. I will post links to the images when I get some patience. YES I know there are two similar threads right now, but my posts and other posts I have seen by other people keep getting locked and deleted by moderators for “ranting.”
Well if you have pics of group confirming it thats proof enough! Finnaly someone is brave enough to step up with REAL evidence that this evil company is DR bugging players for reasons unknown.
Another conspiracy revealed, good work!
Yeah ok of course he has… or maybe you have been missing the other 5 or 6 posts hes been ranting over and over about which have been closed down cos the mods are tired of his incesant need for attention.
He has nothing, knows nothing and is merely posting for attention.. in a nutshell he has had poor luck lately and the RNG Gods finally caught up with his fractal farm runs… boooh haaa.
There is easy loot all over GW2, but if you wanna loot farm the same stuff over and over, expect some kind of DR… pretty much every MMO I have ever played runs something similar only differenece is ANET have let us have it easy for 4-5 months.
As a side effect it might of actually helped get rid of those endless bot farms, whioch I would not be at all suprised if the OP was running and its hit a nerve and hurts still.
So I recall some interview with Colin Johansen where it was basically stated that dailies would be easier to be done. Ex: there would be 6 to do and you only had to do 4 to get it.
With the update, the daily now has 5 tasks you must complete that change.
The dailies are now harder to complete. Why is this happening?
Serious, you think a daily achievement is hard, oooh please it takes less than an hour to do it and its easy currency. If your struggling with daily’s then maybe stick to space invaders in the future….
The problem with the Daily/Monthly is that the fixed achievements you need to complete will definitely include 1 or 2 tasks that will be hated to do or feel forced to do by some players just to complete it. This is not “Playing the way you want to play.” The idea of having a list of, say, 8 or 10 Daily/Monthly Achievements and then only finishing 5 of them in order to complete it would be so much better since at least, we now have the option to skip those that we really hate to do or are just a pain in the kitten to complete. We will have OPTIONS. We will not be forced or gated to do certain things if we ever want to complete the Daily/Monthly. I think they mentioned this is how they want the Dailies and Monthlies to run out eventually. Just like the Halloween Event and Wintersday Event Achievements. I got both titles and in both instances I had enough OPTIONS of Achievements I can complete and ignore the things I don’t want to do. I just wish they implement it ASAP.
Errmmm did I miss something… did ANET force and demand we do daily’s / monthly’s.. in which case I think I may be due a few lashes from them for my disobedience…
If you actually read back to yourself what you wrote, then you might of spotted your minor error… YOUR NOT FORCED so why whine about it, go do other stuff that interests you more – problem solved!
Had quite a few keys drop over the past few weeks from story/completion rewards but I have never seeen or heard of keys dropping from mob kills, vets, champs/bosses or even chests in general not even during launch mode.
Yep same here – seems we may have wasted our time carving up them orange puff balls..
Eeek I just posted on general forum as well (bahh I should of seen this first I guess )
Hmmm where has my Master Carver Achievement gone from special events .. seems you reset me back to zero… care to explain why.. I liked ripping faces on all them big orange puff balls.. but now it seems I wasted all that time on it
Its approx 5775 files and its slow going but then it zips to around 32% all of a sudden around at apprx 4750 files remaining.. then steading going then onwards so I am guessing around 10-15mins to download in full
Why wouldn’t they both be possible? If you read my post i said ‘’only cosmetic’’ And even that lacks in this game. The legendary weapons lack in the story part, and doesn’t feel ’’legendary’’ at all. This game should be for everyone from casual to competetive. And i think you misssunderstood me. I don’t want to be superior to others and have better gear then other people. I simply want a better reward system. Everything from good looking cosmetic gear to ladders to achievments that tells people who are the best PvPers or PvE:ers.
It’s simple, really. Casual players feel left out when placed in competitive environment. And since games are all about satisfying players, they tend to choose their direction. GW2 devs opted for casual-friendly possibly because casual players tend to be the people more likely to spend money on the game after the initial purchase(obvious reasons). It’s a very smart choice xD
The problem is, the game isn’t very casual really. How many casual players have you seen clear Arah exp? How many casual players with a legendary? How many casual players with 4000+ achievement points?
Any casual player can get to 80, but after that the game becomes very competitive and almost ridiculously hardcore.
OMG LOLOLOLOL. Ya your right hahaha. GW2 is so hardcore compared to… EVERY OTHER REAL MMO out there. EQ2, WoW, RIFT…. ya GW2 is pretty hardcore.
Best items in the game for the money you earned leveling to 80 THE SECOND you hit 80? Check
Dungeons so easy most PUGS can clear them while dying 4700 times each run? Check
No real advancement or gear progression because everythings got the same stats? Check.
hahahahhaah.
O dear.. everyone pay homage cos Mr. Ubersauce Iamdabestest has entered the discussion.
This kind of imput makes me think, silly kid with no clue shouting loud to make him/her feel included…. reality however is likey much much different and probably looses every PvP match, is one of those that continually fails jump puzzles and wipes spectatularly on most veteran engagements, with never a hope of or understanding of how to build toons that can survive long enough to see Champs or Bosses laugh loudly when he/she falls in a single hit… but hey I guess we can all wish we were something else sometimes, keep dreaming though cos that big shiny chest is waiting for you at the end of the rainbow… honest
I will however pay homage to you cos you made me smile momentarily…. eerrmmm or was that just wind
It’s a very smart choice -.-? That’s why Guild Wars 2 is so succesful right? I’m not saying it failed, but it could have went alot better if they actually cared about the competetive players. Also what do you mean with ‘’the casual players would feel left out’‘? What the kitten is this? Hello Kitty online? Aslong as it doesn’t give them stat benefits it’s alright.
Afaik, GW2 sold millions of copies. That’d be the definition of “very successful” when it comes to a b2p game. They don’t need to keep the 50 ppl who play 10h/day, they actually need to keep the thousands of players who log once a week. A casual player will hang around the game over a longer period of time thus would be more likely to be around when an expansion comes and for events(which come with cash shop items). A hardcore player will burn through content in a matter of weeks(hey, first lvl 80 would force your competitive players to literally burn through the game in a matter of days) and move on to a next game where s/he can compete again resulting in that player not being around for the next cash-in patch. Furthermore, people who can put in the hours to be “competitive” in a game rarely spend money on the cash shop. For one, spending so much time online allows them to generate enough gold to not need real money to support their gaming. Second…if smb plays 10h/day, they aren’t likely to also have a job thus no money to spend on the game. I’m fairly certain the game is not run by uneducated idiots at least when it comes to the money department and they do know how to squeeze the most out of a game.
No, it’s not Hello Kitty. It’s called “customer service”. People feel left out -> people feel unwanted -> people leave. And since the people in question are their most likely source of money, they don’t want to lose them. Whether you and the other 50 hardcore players leave or not is far less important than the thousands of working adults who spent money on the game.
The game is losing players drastically and it barely came out. While competitive games like Dota 2 who are still in frigging beta make so much money that they can host 1, 5 million dollar tournaments every year. I don’t think people will be ‘’left out’’ because they will still have the same stats as the more competitive player. People thinks that the casual players make the game, which is not the whole truth. Look at Twitch streamers, is Guild wars 2 successful there? No it’s not. Why? Because the game lacks competition. At the start of the game when famous streamers tried the Guild wars 2, we had over 5k viewers daily, now it’s down to 200.
And to the Moderator that deleted my post, i can smell your bias all over to Sweden. Keep deleting my posts and show everyone your lack of a neutral point of view.
Errm care to supply prrof of this mass exodus of players from the game… and before you say read the forums… ill counter it before you do and say the forums likely account for less than 1% of the gaming pop.
The game is F2P outside of the box sale therefore it caters for players wanting to play then put away until they want to play again.. that’s not an exodus that’s simply the way it is. The challenge for AN is to entice them back, and from what I have seen since day 1 is that… they come back, play through the updates and changes, then break off again… but if you can provide some hard stats then maybe we can all be enlightened, but honestly I’ve seen no drop in activity on Underworld in all areas of the game – PvE or WvW (i dont PvP much so I wouldn’t really know if that scene is good bad or indifferent, as long as I am getting into PvP maps with and against others it seems to be stable.
The thing you don’t understand is… Why wouldn’t both be possible? The game provides good gameplay for less competetive players, but nothing for competetive players? You naysayers are looking at it in a wrong perspective. If you want to play for fun, then fine you do that. But don’t stop other players from having their own way of fun.
They cannot both be possible.
A hardcore player in this game is equivalent to someone having a legendary. It is entirely cosmetic, yet we all know exactly what they did to get it. But its not enough is it? You want an advantage… you want to stand out even more!
You’re asking for something for hardcore players that makes them stand out from the rest, the only way you could do that is with gear upgrades. I would lose my fun the moment I log on to the game and realize I can’t do anything without dedicating more than 15 hours a week.
My time for “hardcore” gaming is now over, I am now 19 years old and I simply cannot afford to dedicate my time to a video game. As I said before, the only reason I play Guild Wars 2 is because I can log on and play on my alts and friends and feel like I’m not wasting my time.
This is the very reason I have spent over $500 in this game, from gifts to friends to gems. This is the most expensive game I have ever bought in arbitrary value, and it is worth every single penny. I did not gain any advantage, but the experiences I have ventured in Tyria is what made it worth it.
Fact the matter is, us “casuals” could care less about your conquest to get the best gear. So why should we be punished for hardcore players, in an arguably casual game.
Changing the manifesto of Guild Wars 2 would break the game for me and many others.
I think you misunderstand what the OP is saying.
PvP does not have to be about grinding out the the bestest gear for stats etc… its about matching up against others and competing to be the best and with balanced gearing/stats this promotes player skill not who wants to grind the ubersaucei tems the quickest.. any decent MMO that promotes its PvP inveriably wants player skill to be the key factor, sadly many MMO’s do not do it well enough and fall back onto the treadmill philosophy to keep players logging back in regularly / re-subbing.
Im not really a PvP’er but i can see that GW2’s ideas around grind do not and should not create barriers for any player, casual or hardcore and it does’nt not stop ANET from creating competitive rankings, in fact if its current leaderboards (as highlighted by another poster here already) were promoted more I am sure many others could be enticed into PvP, hardcore or not.
But the game is only 5 months old and those existing leaderboards and the current PvP, WvW around them could and probably will be expanded and more things added as the game matures.
However what you go onto say regarding outlay and fun etc I totally buy into as well, I just thnk you misread into what the OP was saying. the great thing about this kind of business model, is simply you contro, what you spend and whether you feel spending the coins is getting you value for money.. if you wanna go hardcore then that’s great but no one is forced into it and as you say you can put as much time in as you want or are able to without being disadvantaged

loot tables dont exsit in this game when any mob can drop any weapon seen a sreenshot dusk droped of a random lvl 80 mob thats not loot tables thats random.
Exotic armor named after famous characters from Guild Wars can be found as high level loot. thats from wiki on named loot, from that wording it can drop anywere u just need luck. it dont drop from a champ or event it has a chance to ofc but it could also drop of a normal mob on the way to said champ/event.
Errrmmm….. do you know what a loot table actually is, just wondering??
Cos behind every mob, chest, node etc there is a hidden roll (or rolls) which will link to a loot table otherwise how else do you determine what loot drops for you… or do you get the same loot every time you kill that same mob or open the same chest every day.
Loot tables dont have to be mob specific they can be level specific, event specific, dungeon specific and yes even gathering/mat node specific. Some loot tables might and generally do cross over to cover a range of mobs, chest etc and roll behind it will provide you with items from the table(s).
As this game utilises level scaling, I would also imagine the loot tables will scale as well.. though not really checked if the loot is relevant to character levels in GW2 so not 100% on that… but I would hope so otherwise going back to low level maps could be interesting.
Next time you mine a node in game and u get a lucky jewel drop or a dye drop from a gathering resource – ask yourself, where did that come from. There is a very basic loot table atm which is based on lvl only so u wont get potent blood of a lvl 1. my point was to have a better loot table per mob with a smaller lvl band so u would end up with a proper loot table and not random junk, point me to an item u can get only off one lvl 80 mob that no other lvl 80 can drop, champ karka droped a blue helm for me other day if they had a better loot table just asigned to champs it would been more of a chance to get somthing not just a random item ANY lvl 80 can drop
That is one heck of a big back peddling exercise you just did there… make up your mind before creating posts about your misunderstanding of game mechanics please.
Your post title and subsequent denial that loot tables do not exist.. quickly followed by your latest retort speak volumes imo…. incase you forgot what you posted earlier heres a snippit for ya…
*"loot tables dont exsit in this game when any mob can drop any weapon seen a sreenshot dusk droped of a random lvl 80 mob thats not loot tables thats random." *
Doohh of course loot drops are random and of course a lvl 1 loot table wont provide the opportunity to loot certain things…. what’s the point of allowing a lvl 1 toon to loot a lvl 80 exotic or worse a lvl 80 looting a lvl 1 item….
You need to read up on how loot mechaincs in GW2 or most MMO’s in general work before posting.
So for the record.. loot tables DO exist, they will be based on a rollscore theory to provide a random outcome… something along the lines of first roll to identify if a mob kill or such actually drops loot, roll 2 which loot table based on player lvl, roll 3 what loot do you get from the specific loot table, chests obviously always drop loot so move directly to roll2… of course its a little more complex and sophisticated than that but hopefully you get the general idea now. There may even be special rolls or special loot tables where the best loot is listed ie Dungeon boss chests etc, but most MMO’s refrain from discussing how the looting system is actually determined, just have to use a bit on common.
The ways that loot can be worked out in MMO’s is wide and wondrous but most will follow an age old rollscore random number mechanic, others provide static loot drops and some offer personal choice options based on class etc.. GW2 definately uses loot tables with a random rollscore and takes other specifics into consideration ie character level.
EDIT – The rest of your last post suggests nothing more than.. you got a duck roll for loot and you didnt like it cos you never got the shiny you really wanted… but hey welcome to MMO’s where risk, reward and chance are a dragons dream and a dwarven nightmare…. if you were guaranteed everything everytime you looted off a corpse or a chest, then your game would likely be shortlived, the economy would suffer and the “oooh look what i looted” feeling woul simply dissapate into the ether

Don’t think its got anything to do with bots and more about the cash shop.
I hate DR with a passion. If I’d known about it I never would have bought the game.
First time I’ve encountered any such mechanic in any mmo/rpg I’ve played since ultima online came out 16 years ago.
I have seen similar loot mechanics in other MMO’s.. mainly aimed at dungeon speed runners where eventually after a chest or node etc is looted more than “X” times in a certain timeframe then loot gets either time locked or the player suffers a continual decay on their loot tables until eventually its empty for a period of time.. so not that much differnet to what ANET have dreamt up here.
As for their reasonings.. well yes it does slow down botters (a little maybe) but I would bet it more to steer players back to the TP to buy boosts etc.
At the end of the day this game is also a business and as such ANET need to protect or enhance their revenue streams accordingly, then again no one forces you to use the TP.
I consider it a positve move in some respects, the alternatives could be worse for the players .. look at SWTOR.. they have some nodes that as soon as 1 person loots it it is timered for everyon else for “X” amount of time… now that would make for an interesting read on the forums. I can already see the queues of players charging off to get to the next Ori node before the the rest of the crowd and hundreds of toons suddenly appearing at the WP nearest to nodes or events with chests etc.. comedy value.
In SWTOR players camp nodes and strap their alarm clocks to their ears just so they can log in and try to loot the node or suffer another 3,6,12, 24hrs wait

This error has been posted multiple times and has been reported to the admins. Hopefully this would be sorted out in the next patch.
I wont hold my breath.. that cave has been a lagfest for quite a while now, and I cant recall any dev mentioning that it was due to be fixed.. maybe they will suprise us all ….
tbh I have seen quite a few events bug out in the last few weeks, the one the seems to always stick in my mind is the Separatives attacking the sunbmarine on Diessa Plateau (I think), the Maw has bugged out alot as well this past few days on Underworld.
Nerfbat.. eerm i mean patch must be incoming
So can’t you probably tell if a player bought or made their own by the world completion icon or lack of world completion icon next to their name? Yes I am sure you could buy and still complete world completion also but I feel if you lazy in one part of the game you are probably lazy in other areas and probably would not have the star.
I believe this is not the first time someone has mentioned this. But a LW is account bound, so someone can simply do map completion on one toon, and decide to get a LW for another toon. It’s actually quite common to see LW holders without the star.
Yep this is true as are all the differnet reasons and methods for obtaining that shiny.
Personally if someone want to use any amount of RL money to purchase pixels to feel special then all power to them, it doesnt affect my game in the slightest.
And for the poster who replied to my original post.. you may wanna look at just what goldsellers are actually selling pixel money for … cos I think $2000+ would be on the tad silly side, where as $200-$400 would still be very tempting for the more addicted, competitive and darn right idiotic players
But each to there own I guess.
My chirp on this and the OP’s point is quite simply ANET have unfortuantely put more power in the hands of Botters / Goldsellers cos carrots dangling in front of players who feel they must have (and lets be honest that is an age old attitude in any MMO), are still carrots dangling and for many the temptation will be too great to take an easy route rather then doing their own farming or TP flipping – cos tbh I have nothing against players farming like crazy or TP flipping, in actual fact it can in itself be another form of fun sometmes for even me
Well not zero – I was exaggerating. But is it just me or does it seem like no one plays this game anymore? LA is dead. WvW is dead. All the highly populated areas feel like ghost towns…
Like any other game, it’s no fun when no one’s playing.
The game has been dying at an extremely fast pace, Anet has not stuck to their promises and released mechanics into the game that were never supposed to be there, causing people that didn’t like these changes to leave and with the hype from the game gone they are not able to increase the population as noone can trust Anets ability to deliver compelling content.
Of course you have the proof to back up what amounts to nothing more than “YOUR” opinions.
Show me an MMO over the last 10 years that was launched with everything everyone ever wanted in it right out of the box….
As for what you call compelling content… that is purely subjective and everyone has their own opinion. I personally dont have any issues with the content and the mechanics, sure tweaks and patches will always be required cos that’s the nature of any MMO, especially one in its infantcy and as the game evolves new mechanics will get implemented along the way… just like any other MMO out there.
If you choose to blast through a new game only to find there is brick wall at the end of the rainbow with no patience for the next delivery of stuff to do, then that’s your problem.
Perhaps announe to the GW2 forum community what it is you feel so let down by… and if your gunna cry about Fractals, then maybe first consider – are you forced to run them or are you choosing to run them cos that is purely down to you not ANET…. in other words do you trust YOURSELF to deliver the right decision that suits YOU best!!
EDIT – I am on Underworld and every map I jump into seems to have a decent level of chat spam LFM’s from players looking for groups or wanting to players for groups, as it should be (until some better LFM is implemented in game).
Dungeons are always a hive of activity as well, and of course LA is always overflowed for me with Fractals thriving, as it should cos its new…. so no problems on UNderworld – but that’s purely my opinion… see what I did there!
(edited by Bloodstealer.5978)
Agree.. just a run of bad luck maybe.
However where I used to get most of my dyes dropping from grubs and flies, I now get the majority from gathering carrots and onions, guess the darn insects are getting more clever.
Show me an MMO forum that’s all about the butterflies and daisies.. cos the many I’ve looked through, posted on and hurriedly forgot even existed have always been more about the negatives of the game than the positives. Then again I perosnally think that’s why game developers started opening them up because publicity, good or bad is still publicity. Forums are toolsfor the company, not just us humans to use as mouthpieces.. what better way to test an ever evolving MMO than to have your live audiences write about it on a forum… pure genius no matter whether is good, bad or indifferent.
I will say this for ANet though, they police theirs alot more stringently than many others out there.. whether that’s a good thing .. I will leave that to the masses to conclude
So what? Grind your face off for comps, or grind your face off for gold to buy it. Still grinding the same time, just for a diff reward using a diff path. Point?
I think you miss the point.. by a long way.
You need not grind at all now they have Legendry weopons on the TP.. you simply pass your CC details to your local Black Lion Trading Post rep and tada you have “x” amount of gems to then exchange for gold and buy that Legendary… that sir is the point.. it makes the game P2W when the whole point of such items is they were supposed to be the pinnacvle of your game play until the next expansion of the game opens the gates to the next summit to reach.
It is nothing more than a commercial tactic to entice you to spend real money to purchase pixel money to buy that end game collection of pixels.
Dont get me wrong I am all for less grind to get something to make me feel I have achieved something, but P2W is not the way to keep players hooked into an MMO that is already beginning to loose it replay value for many players, that said neither is continual gear grind… and AN have said gear grinding is not their goal (errmm FoTM anyone), but their P2W alternatives will soon drive me away for sure.
ok, one reason I don’t like going to character select screen is it heats up my computer more than in game … according to the apple activity monitor, GW2 cpu usage @ character select screen is 131.2 … map loading it goes as high as 189.3 (maybe higher but thats the highest I just saw it go) in game it is at 104.2.
I have 2 factor auth so logging out completely just for short AFK’s would become annoying.
I will try the mysts option since its going to a map it shouldn’t heat up my computer as much as character select screen.
OK this is jumping from one reason to the next now.. first a busy hectic schedule requiring constant AFK’s and now its due to overheating of CPU when loading the game up.. cmon please.. if your PC is igniting on load up, then maybe switch off Youtube, Facebook, MSN, interweeb forums rtc etc to reduce your loading, .. this will also reduce the constant impacting such programs have on your gameplay… kids,, well my 2 like yours are time intensive – - SO LOG OUT, spend some time with them then come back when your hectic schedule hits a gap filler – - SIMPLES!!
Bloodlust and Corruption for me… with maybe accuracy as a backup
Prove by numbers in stats, damage output, damage mitigation, etc.
Explorers Gear (Power, Precision, MF) vs Berserkers (Power, Precision, +Critical Damage)
In this situation, the MF user is losing 34% increased damage on critical hits. I repeat: 34%. And what is gained from it? A personal ability to gain more loot.
Regardless of what type of gear you are wearing, one of 3 stats is removed ENTIRELY from the gear in the place of magic find. That is a significant loss, no matter how you look at it.
I suppose, if magic find gear is here to stay, then an inspect option really would be best. :-\ At least then groups can know what they are getting into.
Whilst I agree an inspect issue would have some use, it wouldn’t really do as much as you think.. because as soon as that feature entered into game, those ignorant and selfish players would manipulate the very core of the feature.. they would simply swap gear out to get into group and as soon as the party enters/begins or even just before, then they would swap back to MF.. the smart ones will have also transmuted their gear to look identical… so idea is sound implementation relatively easy but benefit is more tricksy to maintain.
Sure there are some decent ones, but also many poor or undeserving ones.. that’s why being able to purchase your Com Tag is a bad idea by ANET.
I would much rather have a ranking system based on players voting on each others performances after events or WvWvW battles / PvP zones.
When a player reaches a certain amount of votes they gain a rank up the command chain and then when they reach a ceertain level they are offered the tag by way of achievement.
Not as easy as it sounds to implement i guess, especailly in WvWvW where the players are zoning in/out all the time but I am sure there is some bright sparks out in the ether that could cobble something together.

Some examples above are way Anet used to limit tone down sexuality in game.
As for you not liking sexualized clothing on women. This is the most basic insistent for the human race. People are attracted to the opposite sex or sometimes same sex.
If your looking to get attraction for your toon or others toons then sorry.. therapy maybe your only real option.
This is a game with a low age rating, the more explicit the content they bring in then the more chances there are that this game will be required to undergo a ratings change and thus limit their market appeal that much more.
People crying for nudity (like the other silly thread on here), more revealing clothes or same sex relationships you really need to question what is is your looking for in this game cos honestly it might be more prudent to go rent a video to share and roleplay with ya sweetheart and leave GW2 to deliver more sensible content.
Personally I see no issue with it at all… it keeps trade prices keen on the TP.
At the end of the day it creates a money sync at both ends… if you want to sell pay the charges and take your chances, if you wanna max out every crafting skill on each alt then great, just pay the puny master craftsman cost to the game overlord and away ya go.. each player to their own I say, nothing wrong with self suffiency.
The only thing it actually does is do away with the need to keep logging alts, crafting, posting on TP and logging back.. so where is the issue, the TP will still get flooded with the same items, just made by a different alt
Strange, I would say if anything they have altered dye drops from mob kills rather than gathering.. had 5 drop last night and all of them from gathering roots, herbs, mushrroms etc from the 3 puzzle areas in LA and the ghosty cave with the torches in Gendararian fields… i seem to get them reasonably regualr from gathering but over the last 3 months virtually none from mob kills.
I am trying to figure out if this is one of those joke threads or if this player is for real.
Have you never played an MMO with a trading post or Auction House.
If you dont like the prices, dont buy the items, go get them yourself like they had to or the players that might of originally gone off and farmed them, crafted them etc etc.
Bnning players for trying to make pixel money in a virtual economy is just NO! unless of course its is via the more shady bot side of things.. then by all means wield the ban hammer with fury… if I want to use my money to buy up all the copper ore on the BTC and resell it all for a profit, then that’s my decision and its certainly not an exploit!
Who do you determine to be at fault in a traders market.. the trader for trying to make a living through supply or the customer willing to pay the prices, thus driving the demand.????
Just NO!

Well after the free monthly updates and a sale on the only other way for them to make money beyond the initial GW2 purchase, I’m very happy. In other MMO’s I never felt like I was getting my monthly fee worth of new stuff to do each month while in this game, even if I dislike a content update, I’m okay with it because I never gave up more money and got way more out of the game then most $60 games. Don’t treat this like you would with subscription games because, if you want, you can just pay the $60 for the base game and enjoy free content updates or just leave for another game like you would with any other game once you “complete” it. I’m happy with a discount on more character slots so I can try out every profession. Welcome to the joys of a free-to-pay model and looking forward to the unexpectedly often free content.
This player get it… there is no outlay past the intial box set, revenue streams need to then be generated within the game somehow to keep the game viable but nowhere does it state you must spend money – then again on the flipside nowhere does it state that ANet will provide weekly, monthly, yearly updates or a regular forum update on what each team is doing this week.
I bet many players do just buy the game and never spend a penny beyond it, and that’s the risk/reward model that the game has been structured around so attached to it they need to develop hooks along the way.
@Bloodstealer. Your twisted interpretation of the post is not welcomed. Please review the content of the thread and understand its true intentions before making comments that are not relevant to the argument.
My interpretation of your post is not twisted at all. and is very relevant.. unless by that you mean that if people dont conform to your point of view we must all be wrong and your right.
Sorry I dont play that way!
You have made clear your frustrations around how YOU percieve the game is being manipulated. Well sorry, but any company in business will ultimately look at ways to make $$$ and that is their primary funtion… its not some charitable donation to us.
Communicating out details of their planned content before they are ready to might sound great to you but when the deadline suddenly gets stretched or content is pulled.. then I bet you will be the first to come here and cuss them.. if you think ANet are doing things any differently to the vast majority of MMO’s then sorry but you might wanna go check out WoW, SWToR, LotRo. Warhammer, DCUO.. see how many forums posts you can pull up with this same old “you dont talk to us, you wont tell us posts”, closely followed by the" why is there no update today, where is such and such content, blah blah blah"….
An MMO is not a TV set or a car what happens when its coded and tested can be quite different to how it behaves when its placed under live loadings, as we have already seen many times over in every MMO since year dot…. then again even TV’s have manufacturing issues from time to time and miss deadlines – its certainly not unheard of for a retailer to have to make excuses to its customers and have to reschedule delivery etc – sorry to rain on your ideal world analogy there.
You think cos ANet promote sales after the holidays, and showing very little to no presence on here over that same period that they are steering the game wrong.. no I dont subscribe to your statements simply because I understand they are a business that utilises sales to promote hooks of business opportunity and offer their employees a holiday once in a while.
I personally prefer to have structured updates from them when the time is right .. if after an extended period of time their is still nothing then we can revisit this but since August content, patching, special events etc have been pretty consistant and communicated in an ordely timely fashion imo. the only blot that I was not overly happy about was the rushed through Lost Cause event, likely done to ensure its players didnt begin raising their arms up and heading out to the forums armed with their pitchforks.

@ Son of Elias. I think you are missing the point of the post. Sales are good. Sales are great! What I am saying is that Anet has not done enough to earn the continued support of the community. They seem to be prioritising their goal to make money through the gem store, rather than being more open with the community, which is where the money really comes from.
Your opinion I guess, but just so were clear, your not the voice of the playing community and you have no idea if that is how players feel so your " Anet has not done enough to earn the continued support of the community" statement is nothing more than wild assumption.
Forums dont even make up 1% of the playerbase, even less the number of replies within this post supporting your claim…. sorry to sound harsh but imo your statements are based off nothing more than conjecture really.
So I guess the harsh reality is, ANet aren’t going to implement a policy of spoon feeding its players with scraps of updates every few days so you have reached a fork in the road…. do you go left and head off into the sunset and attempt to find an MMO that does it any differently for you, or go right and keep playing the game even though your getting all bitter and twisted about, well, about nothing really.
(edited by Bloodstealer.5978)
@Horrorscope. Thanks, I appreciate your opinion on the matter. To clarify, the distaste in my statement about Anet going on holidays more had the intention that I do not believe they have enacted their priorities correctly leading up to and including that event. This is my opinion that has been developing since the August release and I was merely identifying that this was the time period and circumstance where it really hit hard for me personally.
As for the statements from several people about working in the industry, let’s just say I know a little something about this and I feel that my original argument is well warranted.
So they released a festive holiday event for us which considering the issues with the Lost Cause debacle, was actaully pretty decent imo…. but your throwing toys out the pram cos ANet allowed its employees to take a well earned holiday break for christmas – do you not see how childish and ungrateful your sounding.
Just curious, seeing you say you know a bit about the industry, were you made to work over the festive period or were you snuggled up to your PC playing GW2.. lets ponder on that shall we.
And what the heck is wrong with ANet promoting a few days of sale items in their cashop… IMO there needs to be more sales, more regualr cos maybe then I could be tempted to part with some coin… seeing as I am not forced to give ANet any in the first place… afterall its a business that is required to generate profits somehow.
No, sorry this post is nothing more than a childish whine based on nothing of consequence. All MMO’s keep their content underwraps until they deem the time is right to release some info, and even then its normally done in piecemeal fashion to hook players in a little longer… many times I have seen things be said only for deadlines to be stretched beyond the original statements, content removed etc etc and then forums across the Interweebs become fueled with hate this, hate that, its a joke, cant delive blah blah blah….devil if they do, devil if they dont (and its been a holiday season so no, I dont expect too much to happen over that period full stop, likely just a skeleton crew to support the game in case of critical issues.
ANET have said something is coming soon… learn to be patient and it will come… I mean, many of us dont mind a little suprise once in a while.
And the Bandithaunts Cavern in Queensland is now nothing more than lagsoup.
Orr is glitchy and Frostgorge sound.. has some sound issues
Though in my observations many of the lag spots seem to centre around mob farming areas like the slopes upto the Inquest Lab guy in Timberline Falls.. where there is always a band of bots farming respawn grawls.
Not to rain on your parade but I really want them to fix the big game before adding in little games.
And if you had read the original post, you’d see that I already addressed the “It’s not what I want, work on X” opinion. I really don’t need those opinions, which are completely off-topic, filling up this thread with complaints about bugs, dungeons, or whatever else you see as the most important part of the game to you. This topic is solely about the mini-games. Thank you.
Actually that poster is quite on topic…
With the bugs and sp;oits that already exist in this game, adding new mini games can likely add to the issues. Most bugs that enter games do so at the addition of new content and cascading issues, historical issues etc etc all start to appear.
So I agree with the poster you flamed, fix what is there already then consider adding more of this kind of stuff afterwards.
To add… Rome was not built in a day – show me an MMO that comes complete right out of the box, then show me a game that can keep pace with the relentless speed that we players plough through content then demand more….. all in good time, just keep adding this kind of topic to the suggestions box.
Lastly.. there are already plenty of mini games …. jumping puzzles, bar/keg brawling – you already mentioned the costume brawl, what about the variety of mini games that came with the Wintersday event?
In fact the general Map events can be considered mini games away from the everyday PvE map exploration, story, WvWvW, sPvP… and more will likely follow in good time.

The decision to permanently ban “exploiters” were made in good faith but the harm associated with the precedent set by ANet with this decision by far exceed any gain. In essence, ANet has sent the message that ANY profitable salvaged material is an exploit, (eg: salvaging a yellow for ecto). I do not think ANet fully comprehend the magnitude of the harm set by this precedent…
The message Anet has sent is actually a good message and does no harm. You cheat the system you get banned. Its that simple. It seems like a lot a lot of common sense is missing in some of these post. The only ones to get banned were the ones that really abused it. Its so easy to make gold in this game if you put in a bit of time but some lazy kitten gamers are always looking for a way to cheat the system. I mean how clueless does a person have to be to not realize that that wasn’t intended?? Come on now be for real. Don’t make excuses for those lazy gamers.
What about the lazy developers who push things into production way too fast. Seriously, he should get fired and I’ll be done with this thread. He gave an opportunity to people that costed them their game.
So.. on one hand you openly support that RL human being dealt a cruel blow in firing them for making a mistake.. yes real life where that results in many other potential issues for that person… but yet your willing to plea for forgiveness for those players caught with their fingers in a virtual pixelated cookie jar and more likely not for the first time in game…. you sir smell real bad of hypocrisy.
Or how about something we call a “warning”? You know…the kind of thing that gives people a chance? I’m surprised that arenanet has 0 tolerance for people who play their game and enjoy it; exploit or not exploit because exploits aren’t floating around everyday.
The warning was in the terms of service. The thing everyone agrees to. The onus isn’t on Anet for people that didn’t read it. Bans were also doled out for the karma exploit and the peppers exploit, which were the exact same thing as this. And most of those people were given a second chance.
Anet shouldnt have to issue a statement every few weeks reminding people to read what they click to agree to, or to exert a bit of common since if they come across something that can be egregiously exploited to the detriment of every player that isnt doing the same thing.
Well, I’ve never encountered a game that was as buggy as this. And also, remind me the next time you agree to a terms of service and I’ll tell the company to slip in a “…and you agree to pay $100 for the rest of your life to us” at the end. Who reads the terms of service. ArenaNet at the least could use their forums to announce incidents like the karma exploit or whatnot instead of going to third party sites or having the community report them because unlike us forum people, some people have no idea the things that are going on in this game.
And sure, ArenaNet doesn’t have to, we aren’t entitled to it; but I had a little hope that ArenaNet was more about making us into better players than punishing us for being baddies. They play the game and enjoy it. That’s all I’m saying. Botters don’t, they play for the money. But freaking game players who play with you everyday, pug with you, the good ones—-the guys you see running around the map to make it populated; not all people who were banned were straight out money hungry exploiters. Some were new to the game and took a risk, and some had no clue and possibly even thought it was working as intended as a special wintersday thing. But this punishment is beyond me. Was there an answer to any forum question on this matter? No.
Are you for real.. was this post really all about a “friend” or is there a more guarded reasoning behind it, cos having read your “mercy, please” posts in here I get the sense your pleading for forgiveness.
If not then use a litle bit of the grey matter and consider why ANet doesnt openly broadcast bugs, exploits etc…. cos by doing that is like creating an open season for all to go do it until a patch is created.
If you or your “freind” didn’t read the ToS then who is at fault.
ANet have given out chances previously and placed posts out to the community that hacking, exploiting, botting etc is a nono and will be dealt with, to the extent they have upped their game security, monitoring and evaluating so as to combat it.
Every MMO I have ever played or still play has bugs and exploits from time to time show me one that doesn’t. The difference is ANet have decided to get tough on players that continually abuse both the mechanics of the game and their own previous goodwill in handing out 2nd chances. You dont get a perma ban for accidentally exploiting a mechanic once or a few times, they look at the pattern of useage and those deemed to be out of line with the “accident” catchment get a perma ban … AND RIGHTLY SO!
You think roll backs are an answer.. why should everyone be penalised for someones greed and stupidity.. no thanks I would rather see them perma banned than to keep being hit with rollbacks everytime an exploiter gets caught with their hands in the cookie jar.
As for your “why perma ban” not a year, 5 years" etc etc… you gunna bother to wait around to get back into a game of pixels, open the curatins change channel or if needs be google MMO games.. theres a deep pool of choice out there to go try and exploit.
Bottom line these players being perma banned played the rolling dice game and took their chance… and lost, so good riddance to them.
Sorry to say it but.. I think your taking a collection of pixels on your screen way to serious… if your having to place so much importance on a material drop rate for what is nothing more than a game, then maybe open the curtains, open the window and smell some fresh air and look upon the new day once in a while.
I have a crazy conspiracy theory that arenanet put up those legendaries for extra money. I mean some people with way too much money could be naive enough to purchase gems to gold
I would be more inclined to think its actuallyAN that has the Bots farming the mats and selling the items – nothing better than to be able to manipulate the price points in game so that players at both end of the spectrum can be herded in to buying Gems / Gold for real money from the TP.
I mean many MMO’s utilise third parties to pipe up their own and others forums, why not also develop a game that is so unrestrictive to hackers and exploiters and utilise a third party goldfarming facility to help support the real $$ intake alongside your TP…
Anyone else for a pint of conspiracy this evening
One map are for me springs to mind.. Timberline Falls (I think thats the map name )
Path leading up to the Lab Champion with two Golems in the Grawl area.
The path has ever spawning Grawl.. and were not even talking 10s for respawns.
Funny thing is there are 3 Bots farming the respawns constantly for materials and coin (reported them constantly for over a week now but they are still there)… and the grawl just keep on coming … does thiat constitute a bug and a bot issue all in one
But…you’re a thief. Now you need another one.
I actually ran into someone the other day with 2 incinerators. Hats off to their insane dedication xD
If by dedication you mean buying gold from 3rd party sites then yey! No normal person would be able to get 2 legendary weapons in this short amount of time unless they got huge help from within the guild/other players/buying gems from Anet and converting them to gold or buying gold from gold sellers.
Sorry but its true.
While you might be right and its not something I would ever do just for pixels… what does it really matter if this person has or hasn’t.
You made your post sound like a your butt hurt cos someone else might of chosen to utilise their own coin, playstyle, shortcuts etc to get what they want and has gotten something you really want but havent got yet, or took you a begrudgingly long time to get via the grind..
Try to remember that at the end of the day GW2 is not just a game for pleasure, its actually a business that has hooks in it to generate income. Without income, ya think they are gunna support it for your pleasure.. those days are long gone in MMO’s i’m afraid.
So whether this player used their own coin to buy gems/gold or utilised a 3rd party goldfarmer who really cares it doesn’t affect your game does it.. really.. really
Gratz on your legendary OP.. i might post mine in 4 or 5 months time as well
(edited by Bloodstealer.5978)
Oh for the love of…
Mods please stop these threads!
I hear ya.. some folk just gotta cry over anything these days… must be real tough pill to swallow when you get so wound up over another person having a few pixels on their screen that they have’nt got.
I bet alot of the whinneres work in or around Sales & Marketing teams as well… yet they fail to understand what a business has to do in order to keep the products viable and in the customers faces.
The rest are just kids acting up and feeling jealous… I want some candy, I want!
Maybe, just maybe, they park an alt there once they find the node location and then they log in, mine, send it to the bank then log out?
Or… they are using a sophisticated teleporting map hack that ANet is unaware of and doesn’t care about stopping or something.
You could well be right.. All MMO’s that I have ever logged into have farmers logging alts on key nodes etc.. nothing wrong with it, especially as the Nodes are not timered for all once clicked, unlike in SWTOR.
But one thing you missed from the previous posts… certain classes have pets – these act as a distraction whilst node interaction commneces.. but when said player dissappears, the pets doesnt, at least not for a little while… so loggin out theory in some cases can be discounted… and having seen the this happen several times since this weeks patch, I would hazard a guess there is some kind of teleport hack crept into game… then again a quick google will likely confirm this as most of these hackers go to certain sites to obtain them in first place.
It’s annoying and stupid, but tbh show me an MMO that doesn’t have its brigade of hackers cheats and gold spammers – more the fool if players actually use these sites to buy pixel gold for real money, or feel the need to cheat to farm pixels to make pixel gold to go spend on another set of pixels, just to feel awesome.
You can see what the effect is by going to lions arch and going to the ramp directly to the left, walking out of the bank. Run at the ramp and jump right as you hit the lip of that ramp going down.
What happens is you are in a “falling” state for a split second so it prevent you from jumping and instead pulls you down.
This is adverse to what the jumping physics previously were because you were able to begin a slight fall for a split second and still input a jump command to gain some extra distance into your jump.
So they either “fixed” the physics or “broke” some jumping puzzles that used to require you to jump certain distances that were REALLY picky on how close to the edge you were when you jumped.
Now add latency into the mix and you can see how being too precise on when the player inputs a jump command can cause issues.
adjusts tin foil hat more snugly
This is pretty interesting, because then it would seem to indicate this might be the result of some stealth nerf they didn’t want to say anything about, no? Maybe they ‘fixed’ the physics as you say to prevent a class from cheating with the physics at something (or maybe related to all those node teleporters), and the result broke our ability to jump?
I can pull off a jump the way I intended every time if I always double-tap the space bar to jump. It’s not much of a work around though, as it really breaks all the hand/eye muscle memory work I put in to get me to a point where I can do borderlands with the step off on the branch trick all the way through without falling.
Now I just walk off stuff if I don’t double jump.
Not sure if it was anything to do with the node teleporters… if it was then it didnt work.. I saw the same toon mine and teleport 3 times already after the patch….. no names but a certain “Dr” might know who I am speaking of….!!
Shame it happens so quick you cant report them .. luckily on the third time the toon was in dolphin form seemed to affect the timing on teleport, so managed get the name and report it
I dont have an issue with it personally or dungeon scaling to counteract groups just loot running dungeons/events thro to death.
I have found that downscaling on some maps say from lvl80 to lvl 65 creates some pretty spectacular wipes and I have to question if there is both level downscaling and dungeon scaling going on at the same time but both a little incorrectly implemented.
On a side note – what I find ridiculous is how xp on things get wildly incremented.
For instance… gathering an Onion on a low level map like Metrica might yield me 40xp but that same Onion on higher lvl map say like Sparkfly could yield me 800xp.
It kinda makes a mockery of leveling toons in the first place, might just as well pick onions all day, everyday.
Yes I am fully aware that the XP gaps widen as you your toon progresses, but thats obvious and as it should be … but to increment XP on things I was killing or gathering etc at level 1 just to help steam roll the XP gaps is pretty stupid imo…
Leveling in GW2 is actually pretty pointless…
Ive been busy breaking down items and crafting base crafting items such as ingots etc etc today.
So was pretty annoyed when clicking auto deposit on my inventory to find things like Gold Ingots had simply been eaten and lost in the ether… I want some reimbursemnet now AN.. but in the mean time disable it to save others from wasting their time and effort in gathering such materials!!
Oh yeah and your Bug Reporting is not working in game .. AGAIN!!!
No not logged out due to activity, happens way to frequently for my likeing…. and relogging doesnt always fix it..
I just won’t bother using the BLTC, having to keep relogging everytime I want to use it is just to much like hardwork
Everytime I try to open up the BLTC I just get a blank tab but when looking closely at it I can see Invalid Authotisation at the top.. almost like a watermark.
Is this a bug or does the BLTC close for luch continuously
Tried to bug report it but the bug report screen also seems bugged… and wont allow anything to be submitted.
Maybe its just something I am doing wrong.. or maybe not… but its narking me for sure!
