Chests spit out same trash as before...

I just knew that when they went to splitting the one gold a day from the chest, that the additional chances for rares were as dismal as before, sure enough, additional chests yield garbage as before. Why did they have to remove the increased % chance of getting rares from the original chest? Now there is virtually zero chance of getting more than one gold per chest per day. As usual, they have managed to nerf / ruin a good thing, so really I am not at all surprised. The only good thing this patch offered me is that, now I can finally hear my chainsaw again, because it was mega-nerfed last time.
With this game, it’s best to expect disappointment, that way, it doesn’t come as that great of a shock!

So your sample size is…..1, 2, 3 maybe 5 boss chests since the patch
We get it – you had a bad RNG.. get over it and move on.. self entiltement doesnt work well in MMO’s.. increased chance does not mean you guarantee yourself anything, its still just a roll of the dice. As for doing away with the ridiculous loot drop change from boiss events, im all peachy on it … now players might have to go find something else to do rather than camping dragon events over and over for their Ecto supplements

How to turn off titles?

Pretty sure they don’t want you to be able to turn off titles. Otherwise, why even put them in the game in the first place?

I would imagine it has something to do with the new WvW culling sttings… showing guild tabs as well as names so that when players turn their settings right down they will see guild names as well… but unless ANET suddenly make an appearance and answer it … who really knows.

To be honest all this is falling on deaf ears.. its blatantly obvious that if you have a guild of < 10-15 members ANET have no desire to consider you part of the content structure.. so we either have to drift and rep for other larger guilds, ignore the content or just leave the game. This only served to show me that they simply lack decent creative ideas .. I mean you only have to look at other content that has been implemented… Karka event was a mess from start to finish, implementation of game wide culling, and a living story that has taken 8+ many weeks to get knowhere in particular.. except to fix a few signposts, collect a fewmomentos and some not so random spawning items on a not so random scavenger hunt – not exactly a great advert to build a game off imo. And now with gated content they have further annoyed another chunk of their playerbase.
All I can say is.. its such a far cry from how they worked their magic in developing GW1…. but hey ho for me its now become just something to do when I have some free time, I wont be spending another penny in this game going forward, which is a shame cos it started out as an attractive option in the MMO market.

Still this is once per day. I’ve asked about change of way of delivery. Nothing less, nothing more.

Really… Then what exactly was this meant to imply – -

Let assume that I’m in the low level area exploring with freshly created character. Then the mega event start. I hadn’t completed this event today. So in order to receive good quality rare I had to re log as high level char and complete the chain. Afterwards I can re log to my low level one. The reason is that the level of rare depends on the real character level. In current settings I would not worry about continuing my low level explore because I know that I can complete the event and get rare with other characters anytime I want.

You want lv l 80 loot to be gifted to you even if you happen to be running a fresh lowbie… sorry that doesn’t fit the idea of character evolution.. otherwise why not just ask the devs to alter the character creation screen to allow you to pick the gear you want right off the bat….

No if you want to guaranteee yourself lvl 80 loot then swap toons like everyone else, the devs have plenty of other genuinely important issues to iron out in this game instead of taking one players desire for EZ mode Ecto farming seriously – you cant always have your cake and eat it, sometimes you gotta put a smidge of effort in first.

if Anet hire gold farmer to protect their server, maybe bots will have hard time do their stuff.

you know, fight fire with fire stuff.

Any keen conspiracy theorist might be saying.. be careful what you wish for" right now…. I have long thought many of these “gold farming sites” would make an ideal external revenue stream to an MMO especially when internal revenues begin to look unattractive and profits start to fall off the peak … I mean could you imagine if you logged into “insert your MMO of choice”, went to the auction house or trading post only to find the item you just spent a lifetime farming for or broke your bank account in order to buy components in game for it, suddenly had your item on sale ofr a 1/5 of what you have realistically invested – outrage would ensue im sure. But place them externally and everyone sees it as a bargain, players post hate topics about the external site but bottom line the fat cats are getting their milk from both sides of the garden wall.. genius

Alts are already a huge bonus, the game shouldn’t reward people making alts more than people playing their mains.

Why so? Why there is a chance to play different races / stories / profession? Do you like to play only 1/100th in the game you paid for? In that case Anet should sell package : you have 1 slot only for norn warrior. If you want to be asura – pay extra, for elementalist additional cost.

Except your desire has nothing to do with what you just stated.. your only interest is getting hold of some fat lootz.. nothing to do with playing another race/class… if your gunna try and make a solid point at least stick to facts that are relevant.
Bottom line is you want to have a guarantee of best loot no matter what alt/ toon level or class your playing if such an event is active and you participate… sorry that’s just another loot envey topic and has no support from me.. the problem your seeking consensus on is not even a problem, if it were then I am sure we would of all read about it many times over on here or across the interweebs.
IBottom line if want that loot so bad then load up the toon you want it on and be done with it… if its immersion you want, surely pulling some nice loot relevant to that alts class/level is what adds to that immersion… or is it because you wont get your ecto salvage from that nice lower level shiny… sorry your smoke screen is a fail!

Spoilt kid mentality.. nothing new here im afraid.

Not to sound rude but.. If your guild is <5 people, I really don’t think it is a guild. Thats a group. At least have 6 people so you can say “we are larger than a max party size.” 5+ is probably enough to do the training style missions, 15+ is fine for regular missions. And I’m not saying you “shouldn’t” have a guild of 1-5, that’s your own choice and nothing wrong with that. but its not easy to manufacture guild missions in a way that fits 5 people and 500 people equally.

You might not but small guilds of friends & family will and do on a more regular basis than you might think add to that there are many tight knit small guilds of <10 players… not everyone like to be a number or spend most of their ingame time making their guilds look desperate with the endless spam churn. just so they can keep the influence levels up… that is not a guild to me that is a group of anyones and everyones who when they have grown bored of the content will likely just upsticks and go elsewhere, looting as much from the guild stash as they can
As for content sclaing they already do it and they already adjust player levels to match map environments, look at how Fracs or dungeons work, all the tools are in game already but no.. they chose to gate it up tight and for that it deserves to fall on its own sword because imo all content should be accessable and have the feasability to be completed even soloed, that’s what difficulty scaling and lefvel adjustments are for.. the only thing they have to work out is the scaling of rewards based on guild /group size and toon levels taking part.
To gate content is one bad egg but to then throw a smoke screen up bourne out of a knee jerk reaction to the oodles of negative feedback its gotten them in an effort to try and silence the critics is quite simply amateurish and futile.

Getting unlocks is a trial enough and sure this might help speed that up a little but then the gates close and your back to watching from the sidelines while faceless 500 guilds play it out for you.. or you simply forget about your guild and rep another in order to see the content for yourself.. not a very game friendly solution imo… but like I have said before the only way to make ANET wake up is when enough small guilds dissapear off to other MMO’s that cater for all not some.

Does nothing for small guilds imo.. sure you get to play out a few training missions and earn influence.. but that is not the issue the issue is the gated content will still force small guilds to either alliance up and eith have to represent another guild or worse just run it alongside for .. yeah nowt!!
This is yet another knee jerk poorly thought out responcse to the backlash their original lack of thought created…
Sure this isn’t GW1 its GW2 but to not consider what worked previously or what works for other MMO’s but instead stumble along blind to the underlying issues is imo just rank amatuer.

@ Aranel.2837…. well said +1.

Devs.. small guilds can be 1 player or 2 or 3 or… so gated content does not work, especially if you want players in those guilds to spend real coin in game. Why couldnt you of taken a minute to consider content scaling based on numbers.. you know like what you so say utilise in Open World.. then content would be playable for all. Yes guild rewards would and should be scaled in comparioson, but it allows all players from any size guild to play out the content with the understanding that they will still need to put time and effort into the game in order to be able to unlock content… then your training bounties would hold alot more relevance to small guilds…. as it is even when AOw5 and other unlocks are obtained they still wont be able to run the content with any hope of completion unless the small guild is"sufficienly big" or go represent another guild/alliance up often for no reward.

Elementalist… rule AOE dmg but only if built to die before you can see your AOE take effect… pur glass cannon builds are nornally high up the DPS curves in most if not all classes but whether its single target dmg/burst dmg or ranged AOE.. if your dead after the forst hit your DPS counts for nowt and can have a knock on effect to others in your group/team/zerg, who take the time to pop you back up time and time again.
There are good players and great players that run around with the skills and experience to playout the glass cannon build but unfortuantely there are far too many of… sub-standard skills and experience that think seeing very large dmg on the occasion they are alive, makes the build awesome sauce.
I have a glass cannon Ele and love to see that big hit.. but even I know, after playing these kind of builds across various MMO’s for almost 10 yrs… I am never gunna be a reliable weapon in the group without alot of heals and support… but I guess thats the trade off.
On the upside if the party is sufficiently balanced and skilled in their roles then glass cannons can and should be far better suited and miles more effective.

As for single target, I would have to agree with most in this thread in picking rangers for sustain drawn out DPS but cherry picking short stacking kills I think either Thief or Warrior.. but as I dont play my warrior much in GW2 since early access I am leaning towards Thief

I wouldn’t hold ya breath on getting any kind of reply to that one I’m afraid.. otherwise the other thread would of gotten one by now.. its a “ssshhhhh and they will go away” kinda thing.
Only way that they will ever consider doing something about it is when the game starts to see that all too familiar drop off in account logins and continual decline in popularity because of the poor performance… much like what happened to SWTOR and that game has never recovered from the fallout even after going F2P imo.

Only thing we EU players can do is suck it up or move on… hence why my time in GW2 is on the downward spiral nowadays having decided to re-sub to my chosen MMO of almost 10yrs (NOT WoW for those about to scream out the familiar trakittenalk).
Of course there will always be those who will say “Buy a better PC, its your problem not ANET”… sorry it’s just a little too common, especially since the Jan patch, the continual decline in FPS all over the game, server lagging, ability delays and the awful culling (maybe the upcoming patch will see culling sorted in WvW, but why was it ever put into PvE anyway)
I have enjoyed the game immensly and cut it alot of slack for the bugs and issues that have been around since pre-launch but things just dont seem to get fixed, or worse the fixes make other things worse.. add to that the knee jerk decision making that seems to take place in regarding content direction, mechanics and loot drops. Then of course we come back to the whole “hush hush, don’t say a word” mentality ANET seem to encourage.

Guild Bank delays...

Thank God we only have a small guild, I would hate to think what some of the larger guilds are seeing in regards to delays in moving things in and out of their Guild Banks.

Sure LA is nothing more than a lagfest these days but no other UI element seems tio be affected. I can move things in and out of personal bank, attach and mail things from Inventory or Personal Bank I can open up and utilise everything , even the Guild Bank without any issues… but the second I move anything to or from the Guild Bank its just delayed for ever… almost 20mins today just moving some ingots out of the bank so I can stack them with some additional ones then pop them back.. needless to say I just gave up and hoped they would appear sometime by christmas perhaps.

This has been getting worse and worse.. ANET you borked something else behind the scenes maybe?

Sorry to say, but I think the issue is not so much the game as it is your PC.

PC hardware doesn’t always play nice with each other, which might only occur when doing certain things like playing a game. Doesn’t even have to be every game.

1) update drivers
2) change sound settings in game

Silly yet predictable answer from an expert I guess.

Maybe read the plethora of posts about the games bugs and performance, including the the one that ANET has already been looking into due to the horrendous issues with connection stability etc etc.

Sure a driver update might help with FPS and sound settings can be adjusted.. but if you think that’s the reasoning behind the games inability to provide half decent FPS, stability then you need to open your eyes wider me thinks… lets not even talk about the heavy culling, ability delays and slideshows in WvWvW or any local dragon event where FPS plummets to low single digits for many players inclding myself and my system is way beyond min specs.

ROFL. Randomizing timer is an AWFUL idea. The whole point of guaranteeing 1 rare in the chest was to increase its popularity since hardly anyone was doing them. Putting them on a RNG timer is basically a reverse of what they wanted to accomplished in the previous patch. I can without a doubt tell you right now if they put it on a RNG timer, no one will visit those events. Who in their right minds would camp the area for hours for 1-2 rares when they can just farm cursed shores and get 5x the loot in the same amount of time.

Total rubbish.. the events were always running and with a lot less performance issues than they do now. The only issue that might of made you think twice about porting aroung for them was the loot never gifted you a guaranteed rare.
What did you do before the timers were formulated, you kept checking back right on the off chance or looked out for map chat alarms…. nothing has changed there only now you have no more than a 30 second window of opportunity to get there beofre A – overflows blocks you out or B – the event is over before you can port in.

Randomise and take away that dumb loot guarantee and replace it with better balanced loot tables across the game or if they want the events to run on a timer, then randomise there locations and block loot drops for guesting players then watch the performance increase and maybe even the event becomes immersive again instead of a 30 sec point and shoot lagfest.

Anet needs to make the spawn timer truly random.

BAM, problems solved.

Yeah since everyone will be camping it all the time, overflow will happen for everyone, great idea!

Seriously, you don’t see how making it random would be a gigantic problem? “Oh Jormag(haha puttin the screws to you pedants) is going to spawn SOMETIME today? Guess I’ll be camping Frostgorge for hours and hours…not fun but the best way to make money.”

Except that won’t happen exactly for the reason you said. It won’t be fun, but on top of hat not profitable any more. People are not going to camp something that they will not profit from.

Randomizing is the only solution to solve the overflow problem.

The Dragon events should be treated as special yet currently it is nothing but a throw away event.

Ok so they won’t profit from it, won’t camp it and then it’ll never get done? Why bother having the event if nobody will do it then? What if I actually have fun fighting the dragons and like doing it every day for that factor rather than just the phat lootz? Because I do enjoy doing the dragons every day beyond the loot and WILL camp Frostgorge because I have fun doing the fight even if the camping is boring.

I mean, how does this actually make things BETTER rather than just more annoying?

So you think it will only serve to have people camp for an event they wont know when its spawns, but it will be the best way to make money… then cos you got countered its now never going to be done and not profitable – - do you see how weak your opinions look – - botom line you really don’y have a clue about whatever it is your basing your opinions on.

Of course the event will get done but instead of camping and logging camped alts / guesting .. server/map bound players will now get first dibs before the overflow strikes.
It will still be profitable for you and those rares etc will then stop dropping in value so you can utilise the TP for coin making if you so wish… events will now have fewer players yes but that’s only a good thing to those that actually run content to enjoy it not have a slideshow of culled objects, ability delays and a server lagfest.. if your lucky enough to get to it before its all over in the 30 second window of opportunity.

Against randomizing… Don’t listen to people who aren’t trying to get their legendaries or to upgrade their ascended backpack, they have absolutely no clues of the pain to gather ectos…

Really, no clue…. I seek to complete my Legendary and would like a nice full set of Ascended gear, and will have… but maybe I missed the part that said it was a race to get it all.
every MMO has a core requirment and that is to keep players in game… and rather than have mutliple gear gates that havie moving posts they decided to go for aesthics and variety of content… but due to the amount of crying about loot drops from the drama queens they took a knee jerk and rushed through an out of balance solution… which is now steadily breaking their philosphy on the game as its now about who can get to an event instance first before the overflow gets called up, but in the spirit of MMO at least you get that Massive Multiplayer feeling when they kick off… ooh wait no you don’t cos you get extensive culling, ability lag, server DC’s and then .. its all over in 30 seconds.. great immersive content and mechanics all for the sake of Ecto’s cos some players can’t stand a bit of RNG bad luck… what you gunna do when you no longer require the rares/ Ecto’s cos your 4 weeks or so of farming the same few events across every server on every toon has provided you with all you need.. whine about lack of content I guess.

I remember some post by an ANET dev stating that Ranger pets were being worked on and improved.. but that was many moons ago now and the improvements have been meeeh. Only use I have for mine is to get them to wade in get 1-2 hit while I fire a volley then swap pet rinse repeat until I need them to come res me up

As for necro.. actually aside from the lame condition damage I find its my favorite by far.

Regarding bugs.. its not just starter maps, everytime there’s a patch to fix a bug, three more appear.. I guess you found one of them.. dont worry send a ticket, it will get filed and fixed by christmas then you can run around looking for the next ones that the fix breaks.. its kinda like a scavenger hunt only unlike dragon events they appear at random times in random locations and can be harder to track down

Servers empty… noooo that’s just the poor camera/camera zoom I think.. if you see a big orange event tag appear, especially a dragon one then you will most definately begin to understand that the servers are far from empty….. errrm oh wait, you still might not see anyone due to the horrendous culling – but honest there are many, many others there and many more stuck in the overflow trying to be there with you.
However if you inadvertently decide to guest off to another server whilst said event is live, you may well find other servers to be less busy

Oh yea, thats a great idea…we already have to stand around waiting for spawn windows…now you want everyone to stand around for hours just waiting for a 2 minute fight.

There is already a pathetically long waiting time for “endgame events”, and you want to make it even longer…."better to remain silent and be thought a fool…etc etc ".

Maybe take some of your own advice and stop waiting around.. only fool I see here is the one wanting to camp the events in the first place.
Do something else instead… you choose to stand around waiting for ages no one forces you to… that way the events will likely last longer than 30 seconds and you will have more chance of getting to it when it spawns.

I do NOT want a randomized timer. That would be incredibly lame. Then no one would ever get to fight a dragon… What are you going to do, stand around all day in a boring zone waiting for one? That would remove a huge part of this game, and might even kill the game.

Some of these recommendations are just ridiculous anymore, if you don’t like the people in the events, then don’t play the event. Don’t ruin it for everyone else.

You know you sound just as ridiculous imo…. of course people would do the dragons etc… justg not camp toons or server hop for them… that was never the intended purpose of guesting… I dont tend to do dragon events as a means to an end, if its on then great if not then meeehh, but others on their home map might feel hard done by when they are locked out oif it and placed in overflow due to the mass of anybodies porting in. Additionally the events, if randomised might begin to hold some challenge again and not be a mass lagfest with untold culling issues and server DC’s…

Why would randomising the events promote hanging around for it to randomly occure… players might actually think of other things to do in game then… its players like your that think standing around spawn points waiting for it to happen, watching a timer then zone in or worse log your camped toons just for a yellow or two… that make the idea of events ridiculous as it is curren tly.

The dragon events, coupled with the increasing amount of guild mission activites around the maps/ servers is at least now showing just how poorly thought through the content has been and how their knee jerk reaction to loot envey is actually having a negative effect on the game.. boss events were never meant to be done and dusted in 30 seconds and rare items were supposes to be… RARE! not gimme’s

+1 FOR RANDOMISING and if they have a spine make them spawn in random places /maps as well and take away that guarantee of a yellow.

My opinion on the state of the game

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Bloodstealer.5978

Bloodstealer.5978

I posted this in a thread that turned into a pretty big rage thread at the OP, but I feel it should be seen more. I’m not complaining, I am content with the content of the game. I’m compiling complaints of a few of my friends into this post which need to be discussed and addressed.

There’s really no incentive to work towards to in this game other than looking like a fabulous rainbow with your sparkly legendary and multicolored armor set. The only reason to play this game, as of this moment, for those of us with 500, 600, or more hours clocked, is for a prettier item that what we have. This doesn’t appeal to more of the hardcore players.

The hardcore players are more focused on progression ….. SNIP ……

Overall, ArenaNet needs to do some serious rethinking on the direction they’re taking the game, because if they sway too far towards a more casual approach, they’ll be losing some of the hardcore player base, and if they sway more towards a hardcore approach, they’ll be losing some of the casual player base.

I think your definition of “Hardcore” and mine I think is what fundementally sets the base for many of these opinionated threads.
I play on average maybe 3-6 hrs a day (actually more towards the lower end since the Jan patch if I’m honest), but I consider myself to be reletively casual in my gaming habit… that’s to say I try to enjoy every aspect of the game, I dont tend to zerg through everything and enjoy learning what works or does’nt for my toons. But because I have clocked 500-1000+ hrs in the game since pre launch I am by your definition to be considered hardcore.
I have been pretty consistant in my thoughts on the Ascended gearing argument as I don’t really see the small stat increases as anything more than irrelevant but do see that its maybe another content hook in order to temp people to keep playing the game… nothing wrong with that because its my choice if I take the bait and run it rather than repeting other stuff even more. It provides an option in game for us, another focus once we have got our Legendaries or reched the pinnalces of WvWvW / sPvP etc etc… without it I think the playerbase would of dwindled already and the playerbase screaming for something else to do. Its also given ANET time to maybe work on other aspects of the game that have long been plaguing it, maybe!
I haven’t really attacked Fractals all that much yet as I am still working through my toons, getting Map completions, getting crafting levels up, trying out WvWvW and sPvP, working towards my Legendaries, getting my guilds bonuses up etc etc… generally enjoying the game like many casual players tend to do. But I play more than some and in many games that’s does create an advantage where there are gearing gates… more time in game, gates get broken down sooner (note I said sooner not quicker.. as time is time it still takes as much time give or take luck and skill just seems longer when you have less time to play each day).
The difference is GW2 use the hooks in a differnet way than other MMO’s.. they want player retention, of course they do but they also want players to feel they can pick up mwhere they left off becuase its not about who has the bestest gear stats, but who has the better skills and who can find the best advatages in builds and gearing and tactics etc when everyone plays on a level playing field…. HARDCORE players by my defintion are ones that strive to get to that most bejewelled of places within their guilds, within their server and within the game without the belief they have to have bigger gear stats than anyone else in which to do it… and athe aesthetics that are earned in GW2 are what try to set those players apart.
Now I am not saying its perfect – the ability already to purchase many of those items that set you apart is a real bugbear for me becuase beleive it or not it almost forces players to forget the game and just farm places over and over like dungeons, like Orr tunnel and like Boss events just for the purpose of swelling one’s coffers .. that is what both the hardcore and softcore casuals end up doing.. then the “this game is all grind.. blah balh blah” begins to appear here and across the interdweebs.

As a side thought though, I think GW2 will need some kind of gear progressiokittenome point, otherwise everyone will begin to tire of it.. but its when and how that transition is implemented that is the bigger issue – GW2 like any other MMMO needs longevity and it won’t achieve that if the playerbase is unwilling to accept that evolution has to happen. But progression doesnt have to be a sudden shift in beliefs or traditions it just has to have some imputus to engage the players, whether that be gradual stats progression or gradual aesthetic progression.. the game does need to pregress in order to keep the server running.

Oh how I love this thread… it made a grey rainy day much brighter…

C’mon you really think 22% MF on a random run of Fracs where chest loot RNG is unaffected by MF anyway, is a firm basis for your argument.
Now if you said you had been farming “X” dungeon, Dragon, Frac, Orr tunnel etc etc maybe 100 times with 300% MF and still only managed 1 rare and no greens then I might give a small amount of credit to this but your stats show nothing but a hard luck RNG run or you been chinese chain farming for 4 weeks solid without a break and got hit by some serious DR flue

Complains about culling.

Complains when ANet tries to fix culling.

Minimum specifications for running a game are exactly that: what you need to run the game at the minimum quality settings. This change has actually decreased the minimum specifications (provided ANet have set it up so that you can decrease the model count to a value lower than it was pre-patch). The people who could previously render 80 models with no performance problems will still be able to render 80 models (and 1000 nameplates). In fact, players will who were previously excluded from WvW because of their machines will now be able to participate (again, provided the nameplate setting can be dropped to very low values). You are complaining that they haven’t done the impossible and drawn blood (high-end graphics) from a stone (-age machine). They have done what they can for you and have opened up WvW to more players.

Thanks for the hard work ANet, I hope the patch release goes off well.

One thing does concern me about nameplates though: that are a bit immaterial (and probably hard for clicky-players to target). Maybe use large class icons in the place of the model (when it is nameplated)?

You know how silly you look when you make that bold statement of “Min specs are exactly that… etc etc etc….”

My rig far exceeds the “Min spec” and I get performance that barely reflects that of an entry level PC on the lowest of low setting in GW2… no other MMO or high demand application has any issues on my PC but GW2 (especially noteable since the Jan patch) pretty much grinds to a halt in large events or WvWvW encounters.. its a mess pure and simple.
But by all means keep preaching the rule book to us all on here, just maybe look at the history of topic and you may begin to see its not just entry level PC’s that suffering.
If the entry level specs are met then having to dumb the game down further suggests the game is borked not the players hardware… its merely a shift of onus in order to make the game feel slightly playable… except its not just those PC’s that meet the min specs that are suffering poor performance.

Dont know about you but playing an MMO with not much more than a nameplate to aim at seems pretty unimmersive to me and if that’s what I end up having to cope with considering I have an i7 3700k on an ASUS P8Z77-V-Deluxe Mobo, 16GB RipJaw DDR3, dual Nvidia GTX 560Ti’s and playing off Mushkin SSD’s… then I know what my next action would be… UNINSTALL!!

YES YOU KNOW ANET… there’s just too many players on here and in game complaining about it, suffering from it and being ignored.

I think this is an awesome feature they are implementing for WvW, it’ll allow us low end system users to have a much better experience.

I like that ANet is looking to expand it to pve at some point down the road, it is sorely needed, especially on the higher pop servers where dragon fights are just a huge mess for low end users. If I could run fraps I would totally record it, but needless to say, it’s just ridiculous.

I think it’s good times for WvW, and hopefully good times for everyone else later down the road.

You might want to re-read the info on what they are doing, the clues are given in the dev post a few posts down from yours… it seriously sounds to me that actually culling will still be there but providing the user an option to dumb down their own game settings to help reduce the effects of it.. but at the same time you will in turn loose the ability to see the details of whats around you still withthe exception of a nameplate…

To me it merely looks like shift of responsibility for the real issue, therefore those of us with high end hardware set ups might see very little difference to what was perhaps noticeable before the Jan patch (I hope, cos right now even my rig – i7 3700K, 16Gb RipJaw DDR3, dual GTX560Ti’s and Mushkin SSD’s is getting terrible performance since Jan patch) but anything lower and you will be almost forced into reducing those settings and effectively culling the game for yourself to get a playable performance in WvWvW albeit to the point you still won’t see anything around you until your nose is deeply embedded up another players thong or a mobs furry nakedness… except you might see some ghostly nameplates running around.

I am not holding my breath on this one I am afraid… hopefully they will shock me.

What would they put… 1 sentence every 4 weeks about running down the same 2 roads, repair a sign, res a dead one and steal momentos.. ohh yeah then there’s the part about the scavenger hunt… except as soon as you find the first two items (1 on each of those roads from the previous parts) the rest spawn in the same places…. and the random spawning events that strangely seem to spawn in the same random places….

I think it would make for an even more boring read than it actually is running it… I am all for building up a story line but the time sinks involved just kill any immersion that was hoped for imo.
If it wasn’t ready they shouldn’t of released it until it was.. as it stands there just isn’t anything to write about on the forums that cpould possibly add value.

Return of Investment for MF gears?

Bloodstealer.5978

@Balao… yeah we believe you and your Guildie, honest!

Even if your friend of a friend story was true, you will of most likely just started an internal witch hunt for the person who leaked your story…… P45 incoming!

Bottom line is every MMO I have ever played has some form of DR mechanic… it’s there for a reason. What would players do if they could loot eveything in a few days or a week even a month.. they would then grown bored, disillusioned and move on.

DR might be broken but personally I have never had any issues pulling rares with nothing more than a MF pie in my stomach but then again the whole point of rares is that they are… you know – RARE! otherwise they have no reason to make them standout in boxes or paint them yellow.

Now quit with your conspiracy theory and learn to enjoy the game as a game instead of focussing on how bad your loot drop is/was/will be.

To OP… I have a maxed out chef that preps a range of pies for differnt level toons… so when I feel like doing a little map farming… eerrrm exploration – I just pop a pie or two for an hour and take whatever I get from my time… everything has a vlaue, not everything has to be in a drop box and painted yellow/orange to make coin. Make enough coin and spend it wisely then you can begin to stop worrying about farming Rares for Ecto’s, they become a “Nice if it drops for me kinda thing” instead.

I respect your view on my post. However, I’m not simply making a conspiracy theory. People will take what they want from any post from any person. I’ve used MF food as well, and I see no noticeable difference what-so-ever. Sure, my guild leader can put on his 300% MF and get 9 rares during a temple event, while the rest of us (even people using the food and gear) get nothing but blues, whcih I got with no MF gear.

I’ve seen people use all the MF they can get, whcih is a lot, and pull blues from chests with a rare. They’d get 5 items, 4 of which are blues with that 1 rare. I’ve had days where I pull 10 items, 5 of which are grees, 4 blues, 1 rare. I’ve seen people get exotics, even precursors from the chests; there is usually 1 exotic or precursor per dragon chest that I’ve noticed. MF does not affect chests, this we know because ANet stated as much. During temple event runs, I would notice MF users getting blues, which non mf users getting rares, and then during another temple event, the mf users getting 5-9 rares, whlie those without getting nothing but greens and blues.

I’m not trying to call a witch hunt on anyone, and I’m not saying I do not enjoy this game, those are ideas and words that you put in my post that were never there to begin with. I love this game, it’s the best mmo that I’ve played in my 32 years of life. Sadly, I missed GW1 and Everquest, but I still believe this game, as it stands, is better than all of the ones I’ve played. What I am merely stating in this post and in my post above, is that MF has been broken since the game was created. You have your own opinion, as everyone else does in this thread, but there is no mistaking that MF is certainly broken.

Now, this doesn’t mean I want an exotic every single time I do a dragon chest. However, there doesn’t seem to be any kind of correlation between using mf food/gear to not using it. People can get 3-9 rares during a temple event with and without the mf, same for dragon chests. I also came to this conclusion before my guildmate had even said anything about this to me, simply from my own observations since December.

At any rate, I think ANet has done a great job with the staff they have, and I like the direction the game is going. I’m merely pointing out a defect in a system they use. Like I said, I love the game, it’s kept me playing well after hitting 80.

The mistake you are making is trying to correlate MF with who gets what loot.
MF does not guarantee you anything it simply provides a small additional chance to your RNG. That can still correltate to me getting 5 rares from 10 drops using no MF and you getting 1 rare from the same 10 drops using 100% MF….. its still comes down to a lucky dice roll.
Sure it might be broken but even if it wasn’t you can still be just as lucky or unlucky so unfortunately the the friend of a friend story is meaningless either way imo.
I am glad you love the game and hopefully that means you enjoy more than just focusing on what loot you or others are pulling in game cos honestly does it really matter what random joe is looting compared to you…

New Living Story Achievements

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Bloodstealer.5978

Bloodstealer.5978

I like how Living Story is being played out – it’s like playing a game based on every epic disaster/zombies movies, except the events are carried out in somewhat real time instead of fast forwarding here & there.
I like how the initial moment carried out – refugees coming in, without any real clue what’s going on, slow & easy, so the rest of Tyria just nod it off as something trivial & live life as usual. Then things start to get interesting when small advance forces of invaders start showing up, & finally the main force shows up, catching most folks off-guard because no one expect the refugee/invader issue can be really serious. I think this is where ‘defender’ role will come in. Ain’t we all love to be heroes (or villian. I’d like to play one "p)?
Meanwhile I still take some time to converse with NPCs & storing collectibles, secretly hoping there is some secret achievement to get (i.e. ‘Speedy Reader’ of Ebonhawke)

Playing out in real time… eermmm really???
Cos I am sure I have been walking the same places over and over fiorst to fix boards, then gather momentos. heal wounded then find a few objects.. all over the space of what 2 months… not what i would call real time tbh
I have to say I find it a little dissapointing since its inception … the time sinks are far too long apart and the diversity in the story is simply unwhelming.
Add to that the story is stuck in several spawn areas on the same two maps, and considering they have been working on this for month and months they say… all I can see they have done thus far is add a couple of NPC’s with message boards, a few camp fires along a pre designed previously designed path and some object/event spawns… which considering its supposed to be a kind of scavenger hunt doesn’t really unfold to be much of one, when all the events spawn in the same locations and the items split into time sin k drops spawn in the same locations across the 2 maps… as soon as one person finds it everyone finds it.. that’s not random!

So for me this is the least engaging addition to the game and would much rather they focus on fixing the considerable amount of other issues first then think of new ways to draw players into time sinks that actually are immersive.

Time is the killer of all things as they say and this story has too longer time inbetween updates… All of these first 3 parts can be completed in 30mins with no effort or immersion leaving players with “well that was that” kinda feelings imo

Lots of lag

Bloodstealer.5978

No lag. I’ve been playing on wireless connection last couple weeks without any lag.

A lot of people are confusing the fps drops they are getting with world events with lag. It’s cuz your cpu can’t handle everything that’s going on. But if you notice, all your skills are still activating right when you press them (ie no lag).

You might wanna take a look in the support sections and then come back and tell us there is no lag and abilities are firing off without issues… its all over the place now.. culling is worse and in every map, ability delays not just at dragon events, sound stutters, black maps, text boxes missing texts and graphics, UI delays not to mention the many not so random, random DC’s and 3-10 second game pauses… then add in your FPS woes it makes for a real soup bowl of performance issues. Maybe ping the server routes for 24hrs and then tell us everything is ok… if it were then I am sure ANET would of been only too happy to tell us so…. but they don’t seem in too much of a hurry to speak up on the subject in case it opens up a real can of worms.
The game had issues handling large events right out of the box, now add in the effects that guesting for guaranteed loot (plus increased popularity of events to home server players as well), increasing numbers of guild events going on… its kinda obvious there are some real issues going on server side but of course there will always be those that say “its all make believe, I’m fine, no lag here so its all in our heads…. blah blah blah” – yeah sure some issues can be isolated to individual rigs, ISP’s etc but there are just too many map chat convo’s, ANET forum posts and 3rd party forum posts talking about it to be just a random joe with a $199 laptop hardware problem.

Return of Investment for MF gears?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Bloodstealer.5978

MF most definitely does SOMETHING, whether or not that something is 100% what they planned is the question I would ask. Full rare MF set, jewels, food, and banner, i make out with probably 3-5 rares between 1 rotation of shelter/penitent camps. After the one of each though it seems DR kicks in. They need to come up with a game changing loot system, something other than RNG, that can revolutionize this genre. Randomness is stupid.

So what would you suggest they do to avoid the use of RNG.

The only other way would be to have static drops for everyone.. ie everyone gets the same thing likely based on class/proffession make ups… that in turn will only serve to make the game look grey and boring.
The only way to allow players to evolve their toons and their own gameplay experience is to have some form of randomness.. otherwise it might as well be a consoled platform game with pre set power ups.

I am not a fan of this whole system. Having new items just randomly appear without warning, no way to know they’re around without reading about it on the forum or just checking yourself every single day… not a very good way to do it, IMO. Its not immersive to read about it on the forum and its not really reasonable to expect someone to check the same areas day after day in hope they might show up.

But thanks for the heads up.

Pretty much the way i feel about it too. Not to mention that i have no idea whatsoever, what even happened for this living story event. I just repaired the signs, got the title and then… no idea what i was supposed to do next, and truth be told, i don’t even care.

Every event since release needed me to go to other websites for information on what i was supposed to do. Dulfy has been extremely helpful with this, to thank you Dulfy! But otherwise i think this is just bad design/storytelling on ArenaNets part.

Every event has seen mails drop in your inbox to read.. they give you clues and tell you where to head to and/or people to speak to.
The Living Story has Heralds.. and they cant be made to stand out much clearer on the map.. you just gotta follow the clues and speak to the NPC’s, just keep an eye on your mail and map – How hard can it be?

The Living Story is building up to be a scavenger hunt, the thing that disappoints me is that the items just seem to be confined to a few specific drops for everyone… scavenger hunts are supposed to be a little more random surely.
Still I guess it keeps in line with their knee jerk crowd calming EZ Mode game development, next thing they will be giving out guaranteed loot drops as well… oooh wait a a minute they did that already

World events.......

Bloodstealer.5978

Horrible idea, say you are there first then mention in guild chat the maw is up but by the time the rest of your guild shows up they get put in overflow and you cant even do the event together?

That would kitten off alot of people if they couldnt even do world events with their freinds since you know the whole point of a MMO and group events is to you know…. do them as a group.

Which is something I mentioned in the original post. There could be a way to remedy this. Say if the guild group that wants to do it is large enough they could create their own instance of the boss. Not whenever they want of course, but it would spawn exactly the same as the boss does now.

I’m just throwing out ideas, there has to be something to fix the system as it is now. Or are you guys actually enjoying the larger world events?

Unless they come up with a good way to keep friends together its not going to work. Really they just need to up the scaling and fix the culling and they will be alot better. Supposedly the culling is getting fixed in the patch this month so that should be a big help as far as lag goes.

I commend you on your confidence that culling is getting fixed.. the improvements they have supposedly implemented so far have only served to make things worse.
Add to that the way guesting is simply a quick way to exploit event chests and then throw in the increasing number of guild events taking place… ts gunna be a soup bowl for some time yet me thinks.
Its taken some serious dedication by the game devs to get all these poorly thought out things working in harmony in order to kill the experience. Like their madate vidio said they dont think the “kill 5, mobs, kill 10 more mobs is what makes an MMO appealing”.
There idea is to have 1 boss event spawn, egg timer sounds to signal the next, then the next… then rinse repeat for each toon, then when your bored of running the egg timer circle on your own server you can go rinse repeat across others until your ready to hit LA and stock up on Ecto’s… ooh somewhere in amongst that spend 20mins to grab your daily/monthly.
Knee jerk reactive patching to silence the masses who repeatedly cried they hate the grind and loot "RNG is unfair, must have guaranteed bestest loot drops – was just another bad idea…
Still maybe when everyone has all they need and begin to grow restless, bored of running the same events over and over for things they no longer need they will drift away or worse start crying the game is too grindy again, now the egg timers are worthless.

Seriously, as soon as they announced how the missions were going to work I saw the flaw in their plan. How they did not figure this out from the beginning is absolutely mystifying.

ArenaNet likes to iterate.

They like putting out a solid framework, then build out from there. We’ll see most of the rough edges of the game polished in due time. This is an MMO after all.

The framework for guild missions isn’t really that solid though. A far better idea would be to have a completely separate tree to work on for guild missions that could be built on and polished as time went on and wouldn’t hardlock people out of content.

Absolutely… every Guild large or small should of been able to of started off on a level playing field… yes smaller guilds will need to do some extra work if they want to get to the top of the tree, but to even get a foot on the tree is going to take alot of guilds a long long time… gated content like this only serves to turn players/guilds away from the game.
I have played many MMO’sover the last 10 years and have only found 2 that have continually kept me drawn to them the whole time… DDO and GW1.
GW2 would of done the same, I really like how they have built on their solid GW1 model and made this game better… buggy yes but I can forgive a new game for things like that.. but gated content like this jhas simply pushed me and others away and I am now finding less and less motivation to log in and run stuff knowing full well that my small guild of long time MMO friends will not even get close to AoW 5+ unlocks this side of christmas 2013 unless we make it a full time job, which we simply wont do.

Good post Op… well constucted and offering genuine points of discussion which ANET should be taking more seriously.
This hap-hazard approach to the game is simply showing their disconnect from MMO space. Being differnet is fine, but if they don’t even consider what works in other MMO then things like content gating will only serve to leave much egg on face..
But hey ho the “Meet & Greet” must of been fun, so much so that nothing has been posted out about it. As for the the "looking into something for small guilds is just another way of say “whateva, just ignore it, it will all dissapate eventually”.. so I forgive me for not feeling all warm and cuddly about it just yet.

What is with these Dailies?

Bloodstealer.5978

You do know it’s a selection you can choose from, right ?

Yes, of course. But if you take out the “do X in area Y” dailies you are essentially left with 4 or 5 dailies to choose from.

Just last month there were complaints that many maps were all but empty as there was little to temp players back to them especially with poor loot drop mechaincs and DR etc etc… add to that players were growing discontent with the Ascended Gear drind etc etc so they add a daily which gives you a reason to jump back to maps, they provide scaling loot and a chance to obtain an easy Laurel to help with those Ascended bits you might want… and then there is you who complains about feeling forced to go back to different maps….. pffft

No one is forcing you to do the daily or monthly… it’s a choice, and to date its been pretty decent choices imo. I mean lets be honest the dailies take what, 30mins tops. Most of the 5 you need can be achieved by doing nothing out of the ordinary and then there might be the odd one or two that might give you a choice to jump maps and find some event that will likely see you net some greens, maybe a rare, which in turn could help ya pay for that food or use in the mystic forge.

But I guess there is no pleasing everyone all of the time.. that’s why its a choice.

Except I am pretty certain this wasn’t the intended reason for guesting in the first place… its purely a another ill thought through game mechanic that added to the new guaranteed kitten loot drops has left the game open to rampant loot exploitation..
Guesting was meant as a short timeframe opportunity to play the game with friends etc.. not map hop to follow event timers to stockpile rares etc…. but as I said in another thread, I dont blame the players for it – afterall its there, it works, ANET decline to comment on it so it must be an acceptable behavior… except when players become overloaded with gold and materials to the poi9ont their own TP becomes useless and gem sales take a nice drop… then the nerfbat will surely happen.
Until then its a case of guest, kitten and pillage as much as you can.
Its not the only reason the game has become a soup bowl of assorted lags issues, FPS drops, overflow pools and player DC’s but it sure as hell plays a large part of it, especially when there are other events going off around the map zone or even just on the map.

Just do away with the event timers make them random, then sit back and watch the whines from the ones who contniually guest around for events.. forcing home server players to fall into overflows. It may be one chest per day… but its per character so thats a nice stockpile of rares / ectos/gold etc in a weeks worth of guesting.
So whilst it is not THE issue, its a mighty big part of it for sure.
But I dont’t blame the players, its there to be exploited by the very nature of the games design, ANET wont comment on it so it must be the way they intended it to be.
They obviously felt so compelled to throw out guaranteed loot in order to quieten down the kittens who were unhappy that they could not get enough Ecto’s in a 30minutes farming dragons or running Orr tunnel etc.. so like so many things they have already done in this game they implement something so far the other way in extremes they failed to comprehend the adverse effects it would have … So imo the best thing that can happen is they make the events randomly spawn across servers/maps and get rid of the egg timer campers and egg timer guesting… simples!

4.)is it the repair bill that scares you out?(i farm maybe 2 hours a week and that’s a 7g profit each week i’m sorry but i can’t see that as valid. to each their own maybe)
5.) why would a risen priestess of milandru be impressed with your Legendary?
6.) to my GOM bros specifically, some of the PvE guilds on our server are upwards of 300+(and active), can you grasp how much of a difference just 1/10 of your guild members would make if they were active in wvw daily?
7.) World Vs. World is one of(probably the) best way for your guild to not only get recognition, but respect. if your guild is influential enough here…you get the point.
Something i’ve realized, that the fact of the matter is, PvE heavy servers will stay that way until WvW’s incentives surpass PvE’s. That or thief gets nerfed hardcore.
However, if open world pvp were introduced…the tune might change quickly.
k, gripe over.

“World Vs. World is one of(probably the) best way for your guild to not only get recognition, but respect. if your guild is influential enough here…you get the point.”

This should be removed. it’s just plain stupid.

As for the rest of it, the “incentives” will never surpass the PvE, for a player that want’s nothing to do with “WvW”. And, if you want “World PvP”, then go play a game that has it, instead of trying to force it into THIS one.

hey man, i found all my guilds through that and so have most of the people in my friends list. you calling that stupid is a little weird. and select few wvw guilds are even respected in the pve spectrum, that’s a very few number of guilds though. point in fact: if you have a commander tag and are a successful commander, there isn’t much your guild can’t do. whether it being the siege of stonemist castle or taking out jormag. the last part of the post wasn’t anything but an opinion. if taking a tower gave you 50s i imagine your reply would be quite different.

Strange, having played since Beta I can’t even think of one guild across any server that has stood out as awesomesauce…. why because like many others have already said, it simply isn’t important.

Commander tags mean didly squat, they are two a penny the only thing thats makes a difference in WvWvW is the size of the zerg nothing more. When has a Commander tag made any difference to a DE.. I see at least a dozen Commanders hitting Maw, Jourmag etc, etc… how many do you think it takes to make a difference – hmmm especially when they are doing exactly the same as everyone else… eating a sandwich, sloshing a coke and watching Kenny get dissed again and again in South Park… all whilst spamming 1,2,3,4,5 over and over before zoning out to the next event on some other map or server.
As for finding all your guilds in WvWvW, all power to you – anyone can answer a guild spam that proffesses their self opinionated godlike qualites and almost every guild will take in a lost soul begging to be part of a guild cos they just saw the size of their zerg over the hill… but if you still think WvWvW is what makes you feel awesome then all power to you, really I am glad you enjoy it.
Unfortunatley, your points fall down like a lead balloon and offer me no tempting reasons to indulge in WvWvW for any other reason than map completion or the odd daily when the mood takes me, sorry to burst the bubble

So players answer your points and show a fairly clear “you do your thing, we’ll do ours” and you still cant let it rest so you add another point to your list in the hope it might stir people into thinking “best go do WvWvW”….

Sorry thief nerfs might and probably should happen, but that isnt gunna make me have a sudden shift in play preference….. thief nerf or not WvWvW is nothing more than a numbers game, a zerg fest that does not demonstrate skill or achievement.
Plus like I said in my original answer, I like to actually see what I am hitting or being hit by, that did not relate to Thief stealth that was aimed at the choked graphics culling that makes any sizeable WvW action all but a waste of time from an engaging or immersive sense.
As for Guild rep… eerm ya think, many commanders being nothing more than a “bought mine off ebay” sticker and it must feel aw4some when someone says your guild is an awesomesauce zerg monster… yeah tactics and skills speak volumes in that bragging rights mentality

Anyhows have fun

Note… PvE is not immune to such issues either, most events now are nothing but a button clickers paradise.. stand aim (if you can), click 1, lag…..click 2, wait for 1 to catch up then lag more, click 3… wait for 2 (possibly still 1 as well) to catch up – you get the picture

The message is clear as far as I can see…. the content is there, tough luck to anyone not willing to be part of a faceless 500 now be done with you…

I’m only in 1 guild so obviously represent 100% of the time.

I don’t even understand the point of getting to be in different guilds. You either like the guild your in and help the guild and guildmates or your don’t, go find another guild.

I just don’t see the point.

I agree with you, there was no real point. But now many of those genuine well intentioned reasons for joining a guild, be it shared interests, playstyles, goals in game or because of in game releationships or family etc in the guild, are in danger of being pushed aside in favor of the quick and easy solution of guild switching in order to gain entry to this new gated content that ANET has introduced, because unless your willing to make GW2 your second job in a small guild, seeing any of that new content is going to take an awful long time. So players are jumping ship to rep with larger guilds to get into it… its a poorly thought out implementation imo.
