Guild morals dont have a place in GW2 anymore, like others have said, why stick to repping your own small guild if you want to be able to taste all the content in game without the desire to make the game your 2nd job just to be able to grind out the necessary influence to unlock … only to then find you might still need to spam Map chats for ages to try and find a few helpful puggers. Many will/are just joining other guilds and rep where they want just to run the content or unlock it quicker and then play it out….. meeeh, no thanks I’d rather give it a wide bearth and go find something esle with my trusted, loyal guildies who share the same opinions and golas but who might lack the endless hours of their RL each day to try and get anywhere close to AoW 5+ mission unlocks therafter.
Faceless 500 guilds realistically only spam the chat channels to ensure they keep plugging the influence gaps left by others that dont have the time or motivation to keep loggin in every minute of everyda, you get your number to stick on ya back and off ya go….. its a numbers game that ANET have foolishly introduced as a side effect of poor thought process back at base, in the hope players will purchase gems to exchange for gold to then use on influence items and unlocks.
Reality of it is as small/medium guilds who play more casually will begin to disband to join larger guilds, or worse the players dissappear entirely from the game, so actually their hap hazard content gating will now turn into a herding farce, which will actually only serve to take away gem purchase temptation… if they had only thought it through properly instead of bowing to player pressures on here about wanting more guild content NOW! ….this is not the way to do it imo.
May as well do away with guild creation and instead offer a set choice at start up, then there is no argument around 100% repping.

Make us re-play our personal story!

It would be good if they made personal story quests accessible from anywhere in the world without having to go to some silly spot to ‘enter instance’.

Some might argue ‘immersion’ but I find the value of that lacking vs the break off the story in taking time to get to location.

GW2 has enough loading screens already. I just feel a personal story should be playable more fluidly.

They use Story points to encourage players to explore maps not just waypoint in and out… otherwsie the choke points in game will be even worse than they are already in some map locations… what’s the point of having all these maps and DE’s etc if no one has to take toons through the maps in the first place.
But, if it narks you that much then you don’t have to run the story until your so far over level that you can then just waypoint in, and crusie in and out without any kind of immersive experience… not that I am saying the stories are all that immersive since most story arcs are 90% replicated

You should be thankful less players are engaging in WvWvW stuff..otherwise the performance issues would only get worse for you…

When in a group combat I actually like to see what it is I am supposed to be attacking not just stand and hit 1,2,3,4,5 repetively and hope for the best.
Add to that the ridiculous use of things like Spikey fruits etc, ooh and the mindless zerg mentality that is the only real precursor for who wins…. not my cup of tea thks, I will just hop in to grap map completion stuff, farm a few nodes enroute then hop back out and leave you too it…. but enjoy

Dragons and Lag

Bloodstealer.5978

Guesting is most certainly an issue…. Check your Map chat in between lag spikes and ability delays… you will start to see the and feel the aggressive undertones of players unhappy with seeing another event pass by in a FPS lagfest due to the hundreds more players zoning in on egg timers….. just yesterday there was a war of words on Underworld between players and guests that zoned in.. hilarious to witness but a sure fire indicator of the annoyance of loosing playability and the whiole enjoyment of what is meant to be a semi challenging aspect of the game.. the only challenge now is actually getting enough damaging skills to land inbetwen lagging so that you can at least get to see a chest after all the culling dissapates and the guests remove themselves from the scene and crawl back under their respective stones!

Just another reason I tend to dislike MMO’s that bring in X-Server mechanics.
What with the gated Guild Mission implementation pushing small guilds down and this pile of performance pesh, my time in Tyria is all but done… shame cos for a while it almost had me hooked

EDIT – Add to that .. the effect on the whole map now not just the event zone… its fast becoming a soup bowl of performance isses equalling that of SWTOR.. and that takes some real dedication to screw things up that badly imo.

Claw of Jormag Unplayable

Bloodstealer.5978

Its not just the actual event that’s a mess now, when it ramps up the servers themselves are begiing to lag all over the place.. chat delays, text box delays, movement stutters, PS drops, spind breaks, skill delays… all over the particular map not just in the event zone.. its getting stupid with all the camping gping on.
These kind of events have become a complete joke and cheapens the whole experience… in General discussion there is some camper who is promoting an event timer tool … surely ANET have to realise they are killing their own game with this slapdash, knee jerk decision making in order to keep the “Loot Loot Loot” brigades happy.

EDIT – My god now they have brought their timer tools advertising to the forums as well…

Claw of Jormag Unplayable

in Dynamic Events

Posted by: Bloodstealer.5978

Bloodstealer.5978

Is this a cleverly veiled attempt at praising ANet’s recent changes to loot which has resulted in a much larger amount of players participating in world events? Claw of Jormag used to take at least 15 minutes to kill. Less than 5 minutes implies an overwhelmingly large zerg of players. That would explain the lag.

I also ran CoJ event and it sounds to me as if its either the same run as the OP or worse another that suffeed all the same effects.
With all the culling going on it was difficult to determine if there was a large zerg or not, add to that the game was at standstill for large chunks of it, FPS dropping to very low single digits most of the time with the odd spike up to about 10FPS max…
Jourmag has either been smacked with it own nerfbat or these events have just become lame beat em ups for quick loot fixes cos of the months of poor loot drops.
Even if there was a large zerg group (wasn’t there always one!!) the event should upscale with difficulty based on the increasing numbers coming into the event zone but now these dragon events and likely others are simply kittened imo.

Best EU server: Performance

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Bloodstealer.5978

Not sure that can really be answered.. performance isnt just about the servers its about your equipemnt, their equipment your ISP and the interweeb, not to mention the loadings on the servers etc at any given time of day… far too many variables to be able to anwer that.. maybe 5mins prior to launch all servers had a relatively level playing field of performance but then someone flicked a switch and it all went live.

Plus I am sure I read somewhere that UK servers tend to suffer more due to a lack of hampsters compared to our European counterparts

OK For Mesmer's but not OK for Rangers?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Bloodstealer.5978

So I have a ranger alt, 1 of many alts, and used the pet dps build just to play around in wvwvw. One of my favorite things to do was to send my jaguar up on walls to kill other players, siege etc, OP indeed but a lot of fun and one of the very few fun ranger builds out there.

Now with this last patch I noticed my little jaguar dps machine cannot have fun anymore taking down players, siege in those hard to reach areas, so my question is why is it OK for Mesmer clone’s (x3) to be able to jump on wall tops killing siege and players and not OK for my little jaguar? Once you kill my jaguar he cannot play anymore, kill a cone and new one can be made instantly to continue the efforts of the recently deceased clone.

This is all out of curiosity, my jaguar is bored

I’ll give you a clue….. Illusions – kinda like asking why ghosts can walk through walls but your pet can’t. Last time I checked Ranger pets were living breathing beasties that tend to get stuck trying to do the ghost walk thing…. either that or they tend to suffer constant nose bleeds

Mesmers work on LoS to spawn an Illusion and even then there are limitations.
For your pet to get to that same mob the have to jump up and over a ver high vertical surface (a fort wall…) which isn’t to realistic imo.. now if you said they left the door open and the stairs/ramps unguarded I could get behind on this

Concerns about the revamped krait.

Bloodstealer.5978

Every time anything is made more difficult, there’s always a wall of complaints about it. Sure it was easy, even mindless before. And most of the PVe world really is. And there are, believe it or not, some people who complain about lack of challenging content in PVe. I know it’s hard to believe, but I’ve seen it with my own eyes.

I had more problem with the krait than I used to, but they were doable. Even solo, I was able to defeat a bunch of them, but I had to think on my feet, and I did go down a couple of times. Fortunately I was able to kill nearly dead ones to rez. It’s harder, but it’s not impossible by any means. That said, I did this on my 80th level mesmer.

I’m pretty sure there were supposed to be harder and easier areas in the game all along. And when most people didn’t have 80s and exotics, the area was probably more challenging to begin with. Games need to evolve.

In a month, no one will care about, or be complaining about this, because they’ll figure out how to deal with it, and overcome this challenge.

I agree, though, I don’t find it more fun. But then again, I wasn’t one of the guys who was complaining PVe was too easy.

I am all for more challenge and upscaling based on levels and numbers.. but it needs to be sensible.

I agree PvE needed some upscaling of difficulty for sure as it was all to easy to level up and farm with the exception of most Champ fights. I guess the issue I have apart from proper balanceing of difficulty is how mundane our own dmg attacks can be, certainly at lower levels and condition damage is something that needs to be addressed. Yes there have been numerous threads about Condition damage and how good or bad it is so I wont share any more on that but facing mobs 5 levels higher than you are in a starte map area and then see them throw out multiple conditions for silly DoT amounts with no real effective counter at low level after the first removal, makes it nonsense.
That isnt challenge that erroronious difficulty scaling imo… but it was fun for the first 5 to 7 deaths trying to get the last challenge point for Map completion on Caledon Forest seeing as it was guarded by many fast respawn over leveled Krait , oooh and a Champion Krait in the middle of it all

Lol I rolled a new Mesmer today (I have a lvl 80 already) and proceeded along my merry way through the Sylvari starter Map and then BAM… My now lvl 7 Mes was rudely awakened by lvl 13/14 Krait smacking so much bleed and Poison on me it was insane… what the heck happened to balancing maps and mobs etc… If I try to hit a mob now 5 levels higher than me, i might tickle it and ceetainly less than tickle it with my baby condition damaging attacks… yet If a Krait 5 levels lower than me decides to try their luck, their chances seem significantly higher… as for actually having to fight Krait 5 levels higher than me on a starter map where gear etc are all but nudity disguises its taken a shine of even going back and rolling new toons when balance has shifted so radically. I could get behind it if it was scaling based on group size or others in the immediate areas but I was soloing and no one else was anywhere remotely close

I have never known the graphics to be culled so bad as they are now, even starter maps are seeing this in less than populated area… Kraithaven on Celedon Forest.. run West from the fort thro the water and suddnly find yourself swamped in Ridgebacks that werent there until you were right up on them.
Doesn’t give more populated instances like LA or Dragon Events let alone WvWvW any hope. I thought SWTOR was bad for graphics issues and FPS drops, but this has gotten pretty darn close now and dropping faster than a lead balloon.

I honestly dont’ see the big deal of joining a large guild.

And hey, I never have guild chat turned on unless I do guild event so when people are talking about all the guild drama, or whatever whatever, I don’t even know what people are talking about.

Besides your small guild of 7 or whatever people can join multiple guild. Just join a large guild for the event and rest of the time you can be in your tiny society of whatever chatting and do whatever thing you want.

I’m in a tiny society too. I play with the same 5 people every day and we are all in differnet guild.

You know what you guys should do? buy a vent channel. You can chat any time you guys want in your tiny society.

Dooh small guilds predominantly like to focus on achieving goals for their own group not be herded into larger guilds in order to just be able to the run content and stockpile points, gold and gear etc or others, many of whom rarely log on in such guilds and are faceless and voiceless…. otherwise what was the reasoning to allow more than 1 guild in the game to start with, why not just say “click here to join the GW2 Guild, called Destiny’s Edge” – - 1 guild, millions of members, 1 Guild emblem/ banner, PvP will be just become 1v1, WvW will become 1 guild vs another 1 guild from A N other server… you think that’s a healthy recipe for an MMO.. I will grant you it will likely still fit ANETS mandate to be differnet though I guess.

How do you intend to do this content with only with a small group? This is going to be the content which will indeed fill the role of Guild “Raids” and as such is content oriented toward Guild’s which can muster both Skill and Numbers. I am not not an anonymous chunk in my Guild, I personally know most of the active individuals in the Guild. And If I dont know them, I guess ill just have to meet a new friend wont I?

The part about contet scaling slipped your mind, didn’t it?
Also, you might check up on what “knowing” another person or being a “friend” is, because I think your definition of it might be a wee bit messed up.

And you think content worthy of the title “Guild Missions” will scale well with a small group? If this content as it is indeed portrayed to be it would seem that it much harder than any dynamic encounter in the game. Definition(s) Friends:
1. one attached to another by affection or esteem, 2. one that is not hostile. Exactly how does my understanding of what a “Friend” messed up?

Of course it should scale .. its part and parcel for many MMO’s to use difficulty scaling based on player levels or group numbers… the flipside is the rewards get scaled accordingly so that balance is maintained … look at how MMO’s that have a guild ranking system do it.. DDO utilises a server ranking system and dungeon scaling.. would it of been that difficult to implement such a system so as to allow all guilds access to the content…. it still means they have to work that much more to get the same rewards but its not forcing players to herd into super guilds in order to run the content and achieve the same goals… cmon its not exactly a new concept or rocket science!
Gating content this way is just not fun or engaging and like another poster has said… had ANET said they want the game to feel like an extension of your day job… I and all my guild would never of come to try the game out,
Each of us has invested 1000+ hrs into the game to date but at least now ANET have made our decision as to whether GW2 is worthwhile use of our time going forward much simpler.

Guild events and laurels are fine. I play casually and can still enjoy the game- you don’t need to do every little thing. No one is forcing you to do anything… Only complaint is the AC overhaul that makes non lv80’s useless in there.

People always overreact to updates. =P

Your right , players tend to and I for one have been pretty supportive of ANET up till now with all the nerfbatting, patch debacles and game direction (a la FotM, Dungeons, Ascended Gearing, Legendary component grinds, DR etc etc) and yes content is purely optional.
But to promote this update as a big step forward for Guilds when many Guilds wont be able to run it as “Guild content” becuase they simply don’t have the numbers and are forced to spam for players or be sucked into A N Other guild … sorry that is one idea I wont get behind.

For me its just reeks of failed design

I see the doom and gloomers are out in full force. “Oh, it’s all over now. Oh, we’re totally excluded from this content. Oh, Anet sucks. Oh, Anet doesn’t listen. Oh, sPvP is totally ruined.”

What a joke. Try being less drama queens please – quitting a game you don’t pay for monthly that has given you 10x any content that a single player game can offer is laughable. Let me know when you try another MMO or go back to one. The grass ain’t greener and you’ll come crawling back.

But please, keep up the amusement.

I must say logic has taking a back seat to all this drama. So much fear with changes i guess humans have never moved forwarded that far it more on the lines of what changes they fear.

Have you even read what the issues are all about… doooh the players want change, they want new shiny content.. but many of us want to be able to sample all those changes, those nice things we scream for… not feel or be excluded from it….

I have read the complaints, my friend. “Feeling” you are excluded from it is nonsense. You’re not excluded from guild missions at all. Not one bit, no matter what size your guild is.

Then you may want to re-read them and let all the small guilds into your master plan.

But then again no bother, its an easy decision for most small guilds to make and when they begin to ignore the content or simply leave then ANET might begin to understand not everyone wants to subscribe to a faceless 500 guild or spend a high percentage of their time spamming chat channels in the hope that other guilds have players willing to run missions for other small guilds rather than their own.
But hey you go your way, I’ll go mine – GW2 is only a gap filler for me anyway so no loss to me really, my game fix is far away from Tyria and always has been.

Agreed completely.
Gamers are so whiny nowadays, they want everything handed to them immediately and without effort, and everyone think they should be able to access anything at any given time.
Bah.

Another who obviously has’nt actually read what players are saying… its not about having it all on a plate, guilds expect to have to work for it, that’s the point but all guilds should be able to work for it.. small guilds simply wont be able to unless they grind points for ever in parts of the game they may not want to or go pay to win and buy the unlocks… then find they need to spam Map chat over and over in the hope that others aren’t to busy running the content for their own guilds, to stop and agree to help others knowing full well they could and likely should be running it for their own guilds

From what I understand, anet wants this to be a longterm goal. There is nothing stopping guilds from pooling together gold or simply saving up influence.

Each guild member gets 20+ Influence for being in the same party and doing the same event. While that sounds small, consider the fact even small guilds can have a decent amount of people, and jus the sheet fact virtually everything you do in the game rewards influence. For example are dungeon completions. If you have 3 guildies in a group, you each get 100 influence.

Each member can also donate a small sum of money to convert into influence. 60g= 30,000 influence. While that certainly seems like a lot of money, we should reflect back to Guild Wars 1 when a skill trainer in a guild hall cost 100k as well. They are long-term goals and not necessary.

What is the point of designing new content and systems if all you have to do is buy it from a vendor… kinda poor game design if you ask me.. and then what you unlock it and find you need to try and beg 3,5,7,10 others to come help for very little retunr.. cant see that being too popular when they might as well be running it themselves for their own guilds…

Many Guild systems I have seem implemented reward the guild members first and foremost… ANET has this (to some effect but lots of options for future will likely be added).. except only those larger guilds will ever see those benefits as the requirments get larger still.
Then the Guild itself often gets rewarded.. announcments, titles, banners, housing, ships etc.
Lastly the guild as a whole should be measured by way of its achievements, skill, and other game aspects.. the rewards are weighted based on guild size but this can then be collated into server league tables, much like PvPs for braggin rights…. this in turn offers a coolective focus for the guild not just what buffs it can get or how many storage slots you can amass….. and the weighting insures all guilds of all sizes have the ability to compete for say a monthly or annual reward….likewise guilds already show individuals influence tally so it promotes guilds to reward its own accompanied by a server announcement each month maybe… it get players playing for their guilds as well as for themselves all whilst playing the game and dabbling in other areas of the game they frequent less.

Did Anet not look at researching what other MMO’s do in order to reward Guilds and Guild members via Guild Systems, cos tbh this system is just fail right off the bat… sorry ANET but your line of think just makes no sense whatsoever.
I have run my own small guild for almost 10 years and the majority of members have been with me from the start across various long standing MMO’s.. this just forces small guilds who have goals and agendas other than zergwars to either leave or ignore your content.. unless they want to fade to black in amongst the " weneedanyone.com" guilds who want to zerg WvW or battle PvP.
I was fine with you introducing a little bit of gear progression and optional content to get ti, but excluding guilds from their own guild reward system… meeh!!

It’s just so full of FAIL! …..

As this has probably been buried deep by know, I would like to quote Izzy again. I put aspects of his post that touch on the actual discussion in bold:

I know there have been some concerns about Guild Bounties being in the Art of War line. Our goal with this system is to give guilds activities and long-term progression that they can accomplish by working together as a guild. These missions are meant to be difficult and challenging to not only unlock, but to accomplish.

We would also like to make every guild upgrade line valuable to every guild. Currently, Art of War is very focused on PvP and WvW, but our plan is to continue to add more guild upgrades in the Art of War line to accomplish this. These Guild Missions are the first step. Along with this system, we also added a number of new guild upgrades that guilds can earn.

In the end, our goal for all of this content is to give guilds new goals and challenges to accomplished once they have researched deeply into each line, as well as require guilds to have researched multiple lines to unlock some upgrades. We expect guild members to have to work together as a guild to earn the influence needed to unlock these new missions, as well as overcome the challenge of the missions themselves.

In the future, we plan to continue to add more guild upgrades, as well as continue to add challenging guild missions, as we don’t want guilds to run out of goals and accomplishments they can achieve.

~Izzy @-’—-

All I can say is… WOW… how to totally miss the point by a country mile.. or perhaps a Global mile may be more apt.

Releasing content that all but excludes small guilds is just dumb.

So, when you make bold statements like “PLAY YOUR WAY”, what you really mean is play your way but you cant play this or that cos you dont fit the mandate we have designed our incredible GATED guild system around…

So if small guilds prefer only to dabble in WvW or PvP, we now have to play your way in order to even attempt to be included – ooh that’s right in a month, 3 months, 6 months, a year you might of thought up some other idea to maybe reintrouce some of the small guilds into the guild system…
Now your telling us small guilds (you know, ones that might be a closed guild of say 2-6 friends & family members or are a hardened bunch of MMO gamers who have been round the block, know each others game and like to keep it close nit with a view to only recruiting quality players that we get to know over time ingame), now have to become one of the desperado guilds who constantly have to spam Map chat repetitively to pick up the “anybodies” from their /whisper me for immediate invite dribble …. NO THANKS!

I prefer my small guild of trusted players with no drama, all play regular and have voice chat for some social interaction…. I will leave the “we take any player.com” guilds to flush this content away.

I have been pretty forgiving and supportive of ANET since before launch but if I am honest this “exclusive” content update and continual poor patching quality has started to take it toll on me to the point I can hear the death knolls – I’ve tried to fall in love with GW2 like I did with GW1 but excluding guilds of any size from guild content / guild rewards is just plain dumb.
All you had to do was create a new Guild Line to measure progress/unlocks etc which had no bearing on whether the guild played WvW or PvP or PvE so that it could pcil and choose its guild goals and then utilise difficulty scaling based on the number of players in a group who are guilded or who are in the relevant istance/event zone etc and if necessary scale the reward back with some form influence / loot penalty…. course that would be too sensible an approach I guess.

You have gated the guild system and the game content and I hope it leaves much egg on face.
Sadly for me its time to head back to my MMO of choice (No I dont mean WoW Panda either) where guilds get to enjoy all content, no matter what their size, skill level and commitment to certain game functionalities.

Maybe they should have made it so normal guilds can participate in these things, then.

This ^^

Kinda like have my small Guild of players who have been together for many years across other MMO’s. We dont multi represent so this new Guild content will unfortunately never be seen by me or the other 3 players in guild.

I’ve noticed this after the latest update. Tried some underwater combat with my mesmer using the spear and noticed it misses at melee range. The only way to make it not miss is to swim actually inside the mobs.

Yip Ive noticed that to and some dialogue in Map chat suggests its frustrating alot of players now… I just went to kill some crabs to test the theory and I could’nt register a single hit.

Random crashing when using TP after patch

Well at least its consistant.. I will say that.

I have only ever been affected by game crashes in GW2 after patching.

Everytime I try to remove some purchase items or sale proceeds from the Trading Post the game just crashes out to desktop and the nice GW2.exe serious error report appears.. after the second attempt to use the TP I thought… third time is a charm right – - WRONG!!!

Seems like some kind of memory leak, but I am no expert, hopefully ANET will decypher it in the next week or three and bless us with another patch…..

Guess until then no more TP sales, purchases for me

Well actually I only really took around 7mins start to finish for me, even with all the disconnects etc… so not too shabby I guess.

However my FPS has seriously plummeted after the patch.. 30minutes ago I was getting a reasonably solid 40ish FPS I am now getting single digit FPS to a max of around 15FPS – I am only running around the Grove, hate to think what it will drop to if I push the WvW button or go run a dragon zerg.

Why no guaranteed ectos?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Bloodstealer.5978

Bloodstealer.5978

You are playing the game for a singular purpose… and if your unable to take failure on the chin then dont play the game of chance.
There is nothing wrong with RNG, its there for a reason … and the rules are staring you openly in the face risk it for a bigger reward or lose out the value of the item in game or on the TP.
What you are saying does not make any sense.. you choose to grind content over and over with a view to amassing Ecto’s.. but at the same time you are grinding the RNG game over and over with Salvage kits knowing full well that it carries a risk that has always been there and is in any MMO that I have ever played.
But becuase you have caught a few bad rolls you now want some form of guaranteed return, which in essence negates the need for RNG so the economy will become adversely affected and other players will launch themselves on to the forums whinning that they cant make any gold now with all the Ecto’s, etc they have farmed cos lets not forget that salvge kits are not just in the game for retieving Ecto’s, unless you want to have every item affected by RNG to be given a level playing field.
I would hazard a guess the game retains more players over a period of time with a chance of failure inherant to the mechanics than it will if everything became so much easywin to get hold of to the point we’re bored with nothing to log in for until the next update lands and with it a few more hours gameplay till its exhausted again.

Personally I would love to be able to spend £1 a week on my lottery ticket safe in the knowledge that I will at least get my money back if I dont match the minimum 3 of the 6 winning numbers the RNG system spurts out but I am sure that will never happen in my lifetime

I don´t play the game for ectos only, i play because it still makes fun.
Either way, this has nothing to do with wanting to feel progression.
RNG is there for a reason, yes, because its the easy way out for developers.
Why people keep running the same dungeon over and over again?
Because they know what they will get in the end, with some added drops.
If tokens were rng based, i can guarantee you we would see a lot less action in dungeons.

I wouldn´t mind if ectos were account-bound, at least this way the economy would not be depended on a single item so much.

If everyone would stop salvaging because they have had a bad streak, where would you get your ectos then, hmm?
I am refusing to see this as a valid option, farming gold and buying the items you really want instead.
As i said before, i like to get my stuff by playing the game, not the tp!

And please, stop with those real life comparisons, they have absolutely no place in here.
This is a game, and most people play it for fun, not to have bad luck and get a slap in the face after few hours of playtime, instead of having fun reaching a goal.

Seems someone also failed their RNG humour roll as well

You keep saying you like to get your stuff playing the game… as do the majority of players.. difference being you are playing the game in order to then throw it all in to the risk reward game as well. That is not a fault of the game its your failure to be able to take the rough with the smooth.
Dont get me wrong I enjoy crunching rares down for the chance of some goodies and like you I have been here since beta and have 1000+ hrs invested in my fun fix.. I have some some exotics, a single weapon skin and no Legendary, with 7 Alts, but do I care, not at all… though I know from past experience my luck is so bad I probably wont see a Legendary for another 12 months anyway.
Thing is playing the game is the fun bit for me, but I consider Salavaging, Mystic Forge and the TP all part of the fun and I dont get hung up on bad rolls in fact I would likely of left the game a whiles back if that was all I was doing.

BTW where did the playerbase say they were leaving because of a streak of bad RNG’s.
I would like to think the majority of us players that salvage items, not just rares/exotics understand the risks involved – Sometimes you just need to dust yourself off and try again. Whinning on forums cos you had a few bad RNG’s is really not indicative of someone who is enjoying getting their stuff playing the RNG game continuously

GW2 30% off, but no discount on Gem Store DD?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Bloodstealer.5978

Bloodstealer.5978

They make real money with those sales, while I’d guess at least 70% of gem-store sales purchases are made with gems purchased with gold.

Misconception – no gems appear in the in-game economy purchased for gold, they are all initially purchased for real money.
Please keep that in mind.

I’m not 100% sure but I don’t think that’s true.

It was possible to buy gems with gold right from the start of the headstart weekend and there was never any mention that only a certain number of gems were available because that was all that had been traded in so far.

Now it’s possible that the first thing the first players to get in-game did was to buy large quantities of gems and trade them for gold, or that Anet created an initial pool of gems to buy.

But I think it’s more likely it works like the material trader system in GW1. The price is set by supply and demand (so if more people buy gems with gold the value drops and you get less gems for your gold, but would get more gold if you trade in gems) but the actual number is infinite and you’ll never be told there aren’t enough gems available for your transaction.

This ^

I definately used in game currency to purchase gems in the headstart… but at the same time that was likely to of been a loss leader to kick the system into action in the knowledge that a higher proprtion of players would be logging in at launch or soon after… so in essence both thoeries could be / are correct,

Why no guaranteed ectos?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Bloodstealer.5978

Bloodstealer.5978

Of course it would be… why go buy ecto’s when you can just farm rares in Openworld.. i regualrly hit 3-6 rares in a few hours of gameplay most nights without even trying.

Then consider how it would affect the bigger economy ie gem sales to purchase Ectos etc… drops in hard coin sales doesnt take long before the business model begins to suffer.. that then could lead to all manner of nerfs or worse slower content releases, even worse support and pretty soon maintenance mode is instigated.

So no, risk and reward are what makes RNG more fun… entitlement doesn’t.

I think you are missing my point
What i wanted to say in my initial post, discouraging people to play more is not the way to go, and i am not alone with this opinion.
I want to feel progression (you may call it entitlement or whatever).
It actually doesn´t matter if we get more ectos in the end, what does matter is the bad taste in my mouth after completing fractal level 30 with 0 ectos to show for it (just as an example).

So the whole business model, if this even is one, falls flat, because the goal you want to reach “seems” not getting closer at the rate you want it to be.
A lot of people will simply stop playing, so no need for more content and no moneyz for anet.

Just let me put this out there:
If you spent two hours playing the game, for the goal of getting ectos, then getting none, does this make you go —> yeah, no dice, i´ll better keep playing! or does it make you think about playing another session, because you can´t feel any progression at all?

You are playing the game for a singular purpose… and if your unable to take failure on the chin then dont play the game of chance.
