Guild Wars 2 not doing well, True or False?

Aww OP I am sorry I hurt your ego.. I absolutely do see what your writing on here, but you just don’t accept that some people don’t share your opinions or concerns.

You say you really enjoy the game.. so for the third time of asking – why should others opinions make any difference to your views and enjoyment of the game and why should ANETS F2P business model have anything to do with expansion feasibility?… ooh wait you said your not responding anymore, fair enough, enjoy.

Oooh look another one of these threads… who really cares, whatever anyone says in answer to your question is merely guessing. The only people who really know the answer to your question are the bean counters back at HQ and can you really imagine them coming here to help allay your curiosity.
What is the point of your question, why does it matter really…. the only thing you need to worry about is whether your having fun or not.

Your reply offers nothing to my post. Why did you come and post here besides the fact that you can?

I am asking a sincere question in regards to a blog/news article that I read that also involved interview questions with Colin Johanson.

I was simply trying to see other peoples perspective on the subject as someone else might know something different.

I never said that this game was dieing in my post, I was simply inquiring about an expansion in the game and if it is feasible with the business model of free to play.

So please stop posting here with your banter if you have nothing productive to say in regards to the original topic. Because this is not just “Oh another one of those threads”.

It is exactly “another one of those threads”… you are asking for opinions on a subject no one except those back at HQ can actually answer.
Your thread is about “Is GW2 doing ok, true or false?”… not enquiring about an expansion so please stop back peddling.

Every MMO since the dawn of time has a plethora of these “its dieing, its doing excellent, is it doing good or bad blah blah blah”… when all you have to do is simply ask yourself Do I enjoy the game, is it worth my time, if an expansion is coming then does is merit me spending real cash on it.. if you answered yes to the questions then all is good and the game is doing well for you.
If however you answer No then you need to think carefully on how to spend your money..

Now please tell me how other players opinions help you decide these answers.. or maybe your just someone that likes to be led by others opinions and walk of the cliff when its deemed a great thing to do by someone else.

As for your new question “Is it feasible for a F2P business model to offer expansions” how else do you think the game will expand.. small content patches are great stocking fillers but they are merely that.. fillers. They also allow ANET or other game studios to test out new mechanics, new ideas etc. on a live platform and see how the playerbase reacts to it… then when the time is right an expansion will be announced in order to keep the playerbase interested, to draw old players back and promote a new array of players to the game.

My question to you is – why do you think a F2P business model should make any difference when it comes to developing and releasing an expansion… did you ever play GW1? or any other MMO that is or that now offers F2P options cos I am pretty sure they all have expansions at one time or another as do P2P games… not sure why you even asked tbh.

Player opinion plays a great part in whether a game is doing well or not, just as much as the metrics that the devs receive from game tools.

Agreed.. but asking others to answer a question such as “is X game dieing true or false?” when such answers will only be based on pure conjecture in order to formulate their own opinions is silly at best but as I have said.. every MMO has this or similar question asked over and over and over.

If NCSOFT popped on here and said.. yes OP its true the game is loosing concurrent logins each day at the moment and currently we have no plan for an expansion to be released in the near future… does that suddenly mean you cant enjoy the game anymore.. NO so why ask the question in the first place, and when players provide an answer/opinion what difference does that make to your own view on the game…. but then to attempt to throw insults back at people who provide the OP with an opinion on his/her thread… well that right their tells me the OP has failed to understand why he/she actually started the thread for in the first place.

No actually if you read my original post my thread was in regards to some interview questions with Colin Johanson.

In regards to that interview I thought I would ask on here to see if there has been any dev response to this if someone else may have brought up the subject since the devs are active in this community.

If you read my post you would see that I wasn’t saying the game is dieing at all. You are putting words into my mouth.

I was simply putting across the table that according to the interview maybe the game itself is not collecting enough money due to no monthly subscription to the game.

I was also stating that I wouldn’t mind paying a small subscription to this game because I really like this game.

And Yes it does matter to me what is happening to this game, because if there is no player base then its not worth playing to me.

So please stop being a d-wad and coming onto my thread AGAIN with nothing constructive to put forth, thanks!

You might wish to take some of your own advice… read what I said.. it has nothing to do with you saying “GW2 is dieing” its got everything to do with why should others opinions on your question make any difference to how you view the game… entirely different.

You asked a question I gave you my opinion… if you cant take it that not everyone shares your views or has the same interest in subjects you have no knowledge of except baseless heresay then I am sorry but maybe reconsider what your thread topic is all about… ooh and nice attempt at insults btw, shows your level of maturity, maybe ask mom for some warm milk to go with that cookie I hear it help to reduce tantrums when you cant get your own way with things.

Yes you are do not be fearful of changes.
Even with the system we have now Population balance is still an issue some worlds simply have more ppl the others at a given time. There not realty a way to fix that. They could lower the number of ppl that can be put into WvW but by how much and is it ok to keep out high numbers of ppl from wvwing?

Imo yes it is ok.. or better still if the situation arise that numbers begin to become out of balance you offer players seeking to zone in the opportunity to transfer to another server map until capacity allows you to be ported back.. just like overflows do at the moment.

Theres not much anet can do. unless i guess you would like to be told what server you can play on and at what times you are / are not allow to play. This new system involving RNG will be nice though we wont be locked in battles with the same 2 servers for a month.

Anet need to look at what is causing the imbalances in the first place.. sure there will always be some servers that are less WvWvW focused than others but the current issues go way beyond this.. matchup boredom is one such problem, which the update might address but there is surely other aspects of the game that ANET need to address in order to make it more appealing and entice players back.. class balance, the pathetic outmanned buff, better rewards, hacking and better control of server map numbers when there is an obvious imbalance.
As it stands at the moment its just pure boredom for me on UW server.. there is no skill or tactic that can fix the complete failure to address the imbalance in pop numbers made worse by continual weekly match ups against the same higher pop servers.. its become nothing more than yawn wars imo

Gee a new WvW week begins.. and yes it must be Groundhog day all over again – same match ups, same out of balance numbers, same 2 servers ganking UW into the ground, same disconnects at crucial times, same… well just the same…. yawns.

Maybe I should break my own religious pact and finally force myself to go try WoW… anything is surely better than this tosh.
I am beginning to feel like the countless others on UW server that have drifted away… bored silly and lacking motivation to log in.. good luck DL and FR, glad we gave you some light entertainment these past weeks with our puny attempts at gathering a meaningful group to give your monster zergs some stomping practice

Major lag issues in WvW or just me?

in WvW

Posted by: Bloodstealer.5978

Bloodstealer.5978

No I am seeing the same things on Underworld.. as soon as any kind of action hots up (and doesn’t even need to be that big a battle ) then I get movement glitching, skill delays (yes we all know that has always existed forever) and game catch ups… I have a solid 24Mb connection and have never suffered lag in any MMO including GW2 but for the past 2-3 days it seems WvW has gone to the dogs.. large group wide DC’s near Towers, even in own forts, so not dependant on any kind of action you or I are in.
Worse the lag effect is also noticeable in openworld.. Southsun can be a joke at times when large groups of players begin congregating.

One thing that is beginning to really annoy me though is the dramatic slow down effect it all has when you are running around and get within a certain distance of some action…. you suddenly feel as if your trying to run against a tornado – as if movement speed in GW2 wasn’t snail like enough.

But if you write any kind of thread about the issue in WvW.. I will guarantee ANET will close it in seconds to avoid drawing attention to the issues.

All these crashes.. its getting silly now

in WvW

Posted by: Bloodstealer.5978

Bloodstealer.5978

What is going on.. we cant take keeps, we cant mass stack around towers and not even in our own keeps without crashing… just taken FR garrison on Underworld and yet again 2/3 of the group, if not more get dc’ed.. we relog in back to UW Border, stack up and ready to go.. ding we all dc again.. this is getting seriously tiresome.

I know we have an update coming on the 28th but couldn’t you at least bug the game after the patch not before.. at least that’s expected!

Seems strange this has been happening ever since that API was launched a few days back.. or am I just being too sceptical.

And rather than closing valid threads seeking some kind of “answers”, let us voice our disapproval at yet another internal “good idea” gone bad

Deadly *lol* new WvW abilities

in WvW

Posted by: Bloodstealer.5978

Bloodstealer.5978

So I saw this and began hitting my head into the nearest wall:

Dangerous New WvW Abilities
Become even deadlier in The Mists with new World vs. World abilities like Burning Oil Mastery or new ranks in Defense Against Guards!

Who comes up with this stuff and can you please make them actually play WvW before they do?

1) You never saw a bunch of golems dying in forgotten oil? There are some funny youtube videos about that.

2) This is an advertisement not a patch note, this is written by an advertisement designer and not by a player/game designer. It contains as many useful information as any other advertisement

I am not sure we should use events of stupidity as a basis for what makes a mastery useful or not.

Even if it is an advertisement, it still represents two new abilities being added that are completely worthless. Each of those abilities represents design/development time that could be better spent on useful aspects of WvW, real changes.

It’s nice that we have you to tell us what’s useful and what isn’t in WvW. It saves us the time and trouble of actually waiting and seeing what gets added.

So you enjoy standing on an Oil can that has nothing to pour onto below because every man and his dog are stood back pelting it (and you) with all incendiary.. now how will oil mastery help.. they are useless beyond belief, so yeah I think the OP has a point.

Underworld wants to fight vs

Bloodstealer.5978

I sure hope ANET has had a serious brainstorm on just what Outmanned is really supposed to do for servers at low WvW pop times.. cos really its nothing more than a green light signalling “golem build and stomping time for other servers”

Last night UW had a reasonable position on EB, Achilles was doing a decent job consolidating our position, protecting supply and all Towers were either T3 or in process.. we were even in a position to take DL towers and camps… then all of a sudden around 12:30am (ish) we became outmanned and within 45mins our well sieged keep was simply decimated with one swift DL attack which included 4-5 golems… they were 2hrs early , maybe that’s what the problem was

Bottom line is Outmanned is simply useless and does nothing for servers… all the coin spent on sieging and upgrading, the time taken to religiously refresh all the siege equipment – its simply all lost in a heart beat when that stupid symbol shows up… oh yeah we take no repair costs after being stomped over and over whooppa deee do dah!!
Don’t worry about the time and coin its gunna take to retake, upgrade and re-siege it all again, if that is even possible.

Outmanned is the only issue I have with WvW (ok I hate stealth gankers as well ) but tactics and skill are meaningless when there is a 5… 10 : 1 server advantage and maps flip in minutes after hours and hours of hard work and in game expense.

Anyhow DL grats on another successful night.. and good to know FR are sleeping safe in the knowledge that you again remain unaffected

As SPGR we have lost GvG against DSun(our first GvG ever) in which they are awesome no doubt, but I honestly believe that in WvW (maybe biased ) we are equal, maybe even better than DSun.

I think you can’t compare our two guilds. We are 40 members with around 15-25 online. You run in groups with around 35-45 on tuesdays.

Thats no QQ, but i think we are different kind of guilds.

Speaking of GvG: we are open for e revenge anytime.

..and DSun don’t run with 35-45 others?

What has that got to do with my statement about the comparison of two guilds?

Yes, we play together with small guilds, publics and other wvw guilds, sometimes together in one zerg, sometimes TS coordinated . If not it would be dumb an inefficient…

I understand your frustration but the fail is in the ranking system. DL has no influence on his numbers of wvw players, just like you guys

Actually yes they do, as do we and every other server.

DL and other servers might be more popular or have a larger mass of WvW players than perhaps UW has (I believe we are more PvE orientated btw)
It requires individuals and guilds to communicate better and organise better… DL are obviously communicating across all WvWvW maps and thus coordinate their movements en masse and so look to dominate wherever they choose to fight next, whilst maintaining small strifes on other maps to draw us and FR … like I said, I think they are just that much better than us in this tier… we were doing similar with some very decent Commanders 5 weeks prior when fighting DL and MS but maybe boredom, real life or other in game pressures/pulls have had an effect… or maybe UW has, for the time being found its level in the rankings.. that’s where ANET needs to reconsider how the system works.. it needs something different in order to refresh player appetites and help overcome some obvious imbalances in tier numbers.

Take last night, when I logged in around 11am we were in a reasonable state on EB.. our corner was controlled, keep was sieged but only one tower was being upgraded from earlier assaults… our supply line was still recovering but instead of getting ourselves in a better position of strength we decide to treb the hell out of a reinforced DL held Stonemist and take a 50+ zerg in there… against 75+ DL.. well it didn’t end well and to teach us a lesson they zerged 2 or 3 of our towers in response.
You think we would learn.. no we then treb again (were now outmanned btw) until they smash our trebs and siege away… so we then head to Bravost (T3 DL tower).. we take it at the second attempt (using a Mesmer portal, like someone was complaining about previous in this thread.. anyhow whoooopeee doo we got it).. DL zerg then proceed to retake it in <3mins and within 30mins they own the whole of our map including our Keep and our only T3 tower, which we had taken painless hours to get upgraded and heavily sieged)… DL had been quiet for at least an hour before this all started but sometimes we are just tactically inept imo.

And DL made a great tactical decision to team up with FR. Or at least it looked like it, since DL were preventing us from taking FR towers. FR didn’t really put any heart into takin anything from DL either. At least that was yesterday’s afternoon/evening state. Idk, maybe they got tired of beeing constantly put in the same tier with us as well and decided to act :P

The other thing is that most of us (me as well) are pretty tired of fighting against numbers and odds with the same servers week after week. And decided to farm Southsun’s champs.

I don’t disagree with anything you say as at times it certainly does look like that.. but if you look at the other Maps, FR were very active and pressuring.. I was on our Home map and FR were stomping us at the bay until DL came along and took us both out.. not because of numbers but because of timing and tactics.. wait for other enemy’s to do the work, weaken themselves then jump in for the kill… maybe UW needs to take on some of that thought process.

But actually Southsun is perhaps just another cause of the effect.. but I am sure it has a similar effect across all servers, but yes playing the same group of servers over and over with little change in the outcome every day/night has most definitely taken its toll on many players.. that is something ANET must address before long otherwise I can see WvWvW slipping away and quickly imo.

Underworld wants to fight vs

in WvW

Posted by: Bloodstealer.5978

Bloodstealer.5978

Well I am one of those UW victims.. I play all different times of the different when work allows

Maybe 4-5 weeks back we were singing and dancing, rising the tiers nicely and life was good… then all of a sudden we started to get whooped.. firstly by Miller Sound and now Drakkar/ Fort Ranik…
Tactically DL might outnumber us 2:1 + at times (ok a lot of the time) but Ranik don’t often and even they place the smackdown on us more times than not.

Sure numbers are an issue but MS and DL and even FR when numbers are a little more balanced, still use their numbers more effectively and their tactics are often much better, I am sure they communicate across all WvWv maps and coordinate their zergs to ensure an effective outcome… it happens and its for us to work thro it and maybe start to learn from it.

Another issue I see is that we have been pitched against the same servers pretty much non stop for weeks and players have grown bored of it, our numbers have dwindled and so that outnumbered scenario can then be seen as self inflicted.. and only some change to the rankings/match up numbers by ANET can help fix it.

Until then some players need to learn to work together rather than running round like headless chickens and some commanders need to learn that sometimes they just need to take their feet of the throttle and look to defend and consolidate before deciding to venture off into enemy territory outmanned with supply lines choked until the situation allows.

Bloodstealer.5978

You have also forgotten to consider another key reason why certain aspects of the game require you to build quantities etc… its because development of new content takes time.. by introducing grinds it provides ANET windows of opportunity in which to keep the rolling stone thing going.. otherwise you and I and everyone else will be screaming for more things to do.

Everything in an MMO can be and often is, designed to incorporate some kind of grind.. even levelling, your toons is a grind when looked at in the same repetitive context, so is crafting, so is dungeon running, fractals and yes your Legendary…. its all about mindset and understanding why its there.
If you could achieve everything in a flash, then what.. you gunna sit there and wait for the next batch of content rather than logging in to do nothing.. the game needs you to be logging in – concurrent player base is what brings in the $$$ to the game and without game development gets choked until eventually the switch gets flicked.. seen it happen before and it will happen again for sure.

Forgive me if I am wrong though, I did not realise there was some time limit or race in which these things had to be achieved so what’s the rush, your not being forced to grind out mats, gold or anything really only the player itself forces that upon themselves.

Feels like i'm being left out of content.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Bloodstealer.5978

Except with the exception of WvW, the people in big guilds had no content at all. None. The party size is five. You can’t run around with forty people doing most events, because most events don’t scale that high.

These guild quests were added because big guilds were left out of everything else. It’s so easy to join a guild that allows people in for public guild missions and still be in your own guild 99% of the time.

Hell my guild will allow people to run with us, without otherwise contributing to the guild at all.

It’s easy enough to do. People who choose not to…well that’s their own look out.

But is there a significant reason to only restrict this due to guild size? That is my only concern. I know the general reaction to stating anything about reward, but even if smaller guilds do run it with someone else, they don’t receive the same kind of payoff.

If it was open and fairly accessible to all guilds, who would that leave out exactly? Does it simply boil down to a prestige thing?

I recognize that managing a large guild can be a chore and a challenge in it’s own right, and that there should be some form of prestige that goes along with that ideal. I’m just not sure that gating content should be the answer.

Actually there sort of is a reason.

If you make these things hard enough that you need tons of people doing it, then you need tons of people to do it. If any guild no matter what size can do it, then it’s not content for larger guilds.

Running a tier 3 bounty would be very very hard (probably impossible) for a guild my size. We usually have between 15 and 25 people doing guild missions at a time, and we’re not big enough to do the higher level stuff. But I don’t feel left out because those guilds need content too.

And because there are several guilds that do allow people to join them publicly.

I’m not sure if you can get rewards cross servers or not, but it’s worth checking in to. If people want to join my guild missions, no questions asked, we can invite you for the mission and you can leave right after. There, problem solved.

I’m on Tarnished Coast.

Difficulty does not have to mean more people to do it.
The same challenge in a bounty can be provided to a small guilds or even a 1 person guild.. its called scaling and that is how it should be done. Yes large guilds with higher numbers should gain a little more spoil perhaps but content should never, ever be gated to the point anyone is excluded – ever, otherwise players will grow tired of grinding influence over and over to get not that far, and then find they still cant actually achieve the said mission anyway… you speak only from the side of numbers not sense and maybe this is one impass that will finally teach ANET just how poorly they choose the directions of their game and rightly so.

Don’t get me wrong, I really enjoy GW2, even the buggy lagfest that has hounded the game in certain areas since day 1, I happily ignore.. but gating is something I detest and is a major reason why my guild play much less now, to the point we are already back in our chosen MMO where such stupidity does not exist and I bet we are not alone in this.

But your entitled to your rose tinted views I guess.

Feels like i'm being left out of content.

Think of this like “premium content” for those who put in the time and effort. So if your guild can’t meet the requirements, perhaps you should join a larger one that can? You can have multiple guilds (up to 4 I think). Find one that’s willing to let you rep for special events like the Guild Missions.

What a load of nonsense… small guilds have to put in a multitude of extra effort to get to unlock even the guild training especially when their are other things to unlock as well which might be deemed more useful to the guild.

Just because you join a faceless 500 guild you think that proves you put more effort in that players in small guilds.. talk sense and open your eyes dude.
Why should anyone be forced to negate their own guilds just to run content.. if they wanted gated content then it should of been something that every guild could open either through in game purchase, achievement or via the cashshop if necessary.. what we have currently is nothing more than a player base sectioned into corners unless they beg to piggy back off others at the expense of their own guild or worse loose members to the faceless numbers game.

So just quit with your nonsensical opinions.

Intel i7 3770K, 16GB G-Skill Ripjaw-Z DDR3 RAM, dual NVidia GTX560Ti’s
Asus P8Z77-V PRO Motherboard – game runs off a Mushkin 256GB SSD.
Windows 7 Ultimate 64.

No issues other than that silly skill delay in WvW zerg fights and the PvE graphics culling (much improved in WvW I must add)

I run around with a solid 60+ FPS dropping to around 25FPS in 3-way large battles in WvW but can improve than if I drop settings a bit.. but why bother.

Only thing I don’t do is have FXAA and shadows enabled and also shaders set to low.

Any chance a mod/dev could give us an idea of whats going on?
Perhaps even an expected time of outtage?

Unfortunately no devs can come to the PC right now… they are all huddled round the light bulb socket thinking how to.. ya know – change it

You’d like to think a game sporting as many players as GW2 that the updates would be a little more forthcoming and free…..

I will pretend I understand your pain.. honest

Some people really need to shut up, 9 months or so for guildwars 2 and maybe 3 hour total down time. This is the first major problem they have, show some respect and stop pressing the login button.

This is clearly not a gameplay problem its something from the outside that does this, let the figure it out.

While your waiting watch the new gamebreaker.tv episode

O why so Mr. Serious… lighten up… not everything needs to be ironed with a sharp crease down the middle.

Players age, and Guilds

Not sure if I’m asking this in the right section but hey ho.
So curiosity got the better of me and I thought I would ask on here.
I was wondering how many of you out there are in the older age range, ie 30 and above, and also how many are still looking for a guild to join that has a majority of older players?

You really think the forums are going to give you any kind of real meaningful answers… it represents like>1% of the player base.
Anyhow not even sure why your asking such things, why so curious about peoples ages – If your enjoying the game then the age of those either inside or outside of guild shouldn’t make any difference.

Is it me, or is socialising in guilds all but dead? Everyone always says they are “busy”, I mean c’mon, am I the only one here who can bend my mind more than one way?
The entire POINT of guilds is to bring people closer together and form bonds so that you don’t have to play games alone, but let me tell you, if you consider yourself too busy with farming for that, really, useless legendary skin to even say HELLO, then you are doing it WRONG. Really, I don’t care how busy you are – It takes you like, 2 seconds to type “hi” if someone says hello – You ALWAYS have enough time for that, it works for me, and it can work for YOU too.

And don’t tell me I just have to find guilds using vent or mumble, some of us are not too comfortable using voices with people we’ve never seen and hardly know. I always show a bit of humanity towards my fellow guildes, and not only that, towards ANYONE who makes my game fun – Don’t forget the MULTIPLAYER part in “MMO”

All I ask for is to see some actual care, like I try to show others. Because at the end of the day, MMO’s is about having fun with others, if all you want is the best shinies then you might as well play single player games instead.

Sincercly, a person who cares.

People in game are there to play the game, not to spend their time chatting.

If you want to socialize, call up some real life friends. Game is for gaming.

Then why join a guild in the first place.. you don’t need a guild to play your game, especially in GW2… even guild missions negate the actual need for you to be a genuine guild member.

Plenty of reasons. Wvw, dungon runs, guild missions. (all of which takes communication)

Chatting just for chatting’s sake in an online game is a pointless waste of time in my opinion. The are more appropriate places to socialize, and that’s not in some online game.

You just made yourself look like a hypocrite dude… you joined your guild to be able to communicate with others ingame.. that is still socializing.. everyone has their own ways to socialize in game, it doesn’t mean you have you joke, emote or RP… and btw where the heck does WvW or dungeon runs require any kind of guild requirement to communicate… and as for guild missions pfft really cos my small guild often just reps in and borrows guild space to run a mission and then disappear again… proving its nothing more than a glorified PUG and it certainly doesn’t require anything other than map chat for communication, so please try again to make your blasé comment stick.

Remember not everyone wants to play GW2 as their 2nd job, maybe even their first job… simply logging in to enjoy a bit of out of hours fun is not for you to qualify… as I said that’s why you will always be a number and likely in RL – otherwise why do you log in to the game instead of going outto one of those socially appropriate places… dark closet comes to mind!

I’ll try to remember that next time I’m swamped with Risen, Minotaurs, Centaurs, Flame Legion, or Karka.

Hmmm kill this mob or say hi then die… :p
It seems like every time I get someone from my friends list messaging me it is right in the middle of the fight. At least most of them tend 5 minutes or so to wait before asking if anything is wrong.

This is exactly why you will always be a number not a person in an MMO… where did the OP say you have to stop in the middle of something and type “HI” but then you knew that already, your just too plain ignorant and looked for the easiest way to try and get yourself noticed… life in your guild must be real peachy.

Small guilds have always been more personable, how can you realistically expect a guild of faceless 500’s to be anything other than… faceless.
Its not the fault of the guild, the way that achievements and gated content are implemented was always going to see these en mass approaches taken because people want to run content and get through things as fast and as easy as possible to get that shiny or look cool with the guild flag in LA or be seen to stomp in WvW (where in fact I personally feel that such large guilds really are king"

But at the end of the day… each to their own

Skill lag drive me crazy

Thread made by a Vizunah Square player ? Run in smaller numbers thats it. No need to run 80 – 100 wherever you go.

Silly answer…. the game promotes large scale WvWvW.. not small 5 man pew pew encounters.. if it cant handle what it boasts then something should be done to correct it or alleviate it.
It doesn’t matter if you run in small groups or 1 mass.. when a large encounter takes place the servers cant handle it… so having 10 groups of 5 all in action at the same time or 1 group of 50+ going at it with 2 other servers.. the skill lag is evident and for many game breaking…
I sense you have an issue with a particular server stomping you… well that’s for your server to be better organised to deal with it.. they don’t cause the lag its a side effect of a porly functioning game, so quit with the ridiculous comments.

Its the single most annoying thing in GW2 for me.. how could something that was at the heart of there promotion of the game be allowed to perform so poorly… large 3-way battles was supposed to define Guild Wars large scale inclusiveness but all we get is terribad performance when smoothgameplay is needed the most…. I tend to avoid any Stonemist battles or large zerg fights even though my RIG is way beyond the requiremtns of this game and I have a stable 24Mb internet connection pretty much all the time.

If ANET know that their game cant support such large scale action why on earth don’t they scale back the caps to a point that it can handle and then create additional instances for those unable to get into instance 1…. maybe its not that simple but it surely would benefit all those who enjoy WvWvW.

Yeah there are strange and mysterious things that happen in WvW just like in other areas of the game… cheats will always … cheat.
Everyone knows these players exist all over the game, ANET knows this, but if they don’t wanna do anything about it then expect the issues to get worse so you either have to ignore it and carrying playing, report them and carry or….leave the game I guess.

As for this OP Commander Siegerazer…… eerrr hmmm – - I am quite fond of him on Underworld… seems to be the only way we are able to try and force a minor victory these days.

I was amazed when I saw a few Miller Sound players flying then dive bombing players / Towers.
But yeah ANET seem reluctant to do anything about these hackers to the point many of us are simply not bothering with WvW anymore.. too many teleporters, Zoom Hackers, walk through wallers, speed hackers and more these days…. poor form ANET for having no kind of in game detection/prevention other than relying on others to report.. which in many cases is all but impossible, especially when there is a 3 way SM lagfest taking place and the hackers get to do what they like almost unnoticed.

Alternatives to RNG???

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Bloodstealer.5978

Bloodstealer.5978

Guildwars was probably the closest, Rune of Magic had very little RNG and the things dropped nicely, RF Online had very little RNG with Great drop rates.. Tera loot seems a lot less RNG based…Ace online/Air Rivals while it had high RNG later the loot rewards matched the RNG in most ways..

Some single player experiences (yes i know its not an MMO) were Diablo 1+2, Torchlight 1+2, Borderlands 1+2, Kingdoms of Amalur Reckoning just off the top of my head

@RF online
Are you kidding me? The reason why it felt that RF had good drop rates is that armor and weapons break on upgrade. So even if you were able to farm 5 int lvl 60 lances, you’re still a long way off to getting a +7 int lvl 60 lance. Idk about you, but as someone who played that game (even the private servers which had better exp/drop rates), I’d rather stick to gw2’s model.

At least a +7 lance was possible pretty rare and unneeded but possible here….yeah good luck getting those Lodestone drops anytime soon…

How about Zero RNG and Tokens and just have everything drop from specific places, oh wait that would be too easy and fun and people might actually farm items and get stuff easier, yeah we can’t have players enjoying themselves…

I miss the old days when loot just dropped and players just farmed…and if i wanted to spend money in the cash shop i could actually buy the said item and get on with it…

I guess you don’t see how short sighted your answers are….

What you call fun in having items easily farmable is nothing more than a quick route to boredom, everyone looking the same all too quickly and those items becoming common and worthless – then the game withers as players loose interest … only a lot faster than they do when RNG Gods don’t shine on them as often.
Sure RNG can be painful… ive not had an exotic drop in the forge for at least 4 weeks now, but all they have to do is routinely modify the drop percentages, that way the game keeps some sort of “feel good factor” and the “aww man, crap all again” emotions.

The old days of loot drops did not account for F2P business models.. how else do you think ANET/NC Soft makes money in order to keep the game going…. RNG is there for a reason, as are all the other aspects like currency changes, and the special snowflake items.
If they were to replace loot drops from RNG to guaranteed drops, then expect a large change to DR.. for the worse!

Its only shortsighted if gear is your final goal, mine it wasn’t i’d much prefer to gear up and then focus on wvw or pvp or guild stuff than chase gear for months in which i get bored chasing it and move on…

Or better still not chase gear at all have all on merchants and play with hundreds of builds and skill captures, follow the story multiple times and do guild events etc.. like in Guildwars 1.. here its too expensive to switch builds, very little reason too, the story was hard enough to stomach the first time, and guild events are so gated they aren’t worth bothering with…

Of course its your gear.. you wanna gear up to go do WvW so you consider yourself competitive…. otherwise stick on a set of blues and go run it.. now stop with the silly answers please your smoke screen isn’t working, you want it all without the need to put in the time and effort like the rest of us. No one forces you to farm and grind over and over for the special snowflake but you obviously feel the need to but have a hard time rolling with the punches that RNG gives you sometimes.

As for the rest of your post.. you have jumped from RNG whining to something completely off at a tangent.

I see nothing different in Anets DR to other MMO’s.. maybe a different skin on the mechanic, but the same result….
Then again I don’t think I have ever had an issue in GW2 with DR or not so that its noticeably bad and I do the same thing when I need certain things in game I go run the things that can provide me with it. I just don’t camp the same boss or respawning mobs for hours, I just run through maps and hope I get lucky then rinse repeat till the matchsticks finally break and poke me in the eye, a sure way of telling me its time to mix up my gameplay some more….I laugh at those people camping the Grawl in Timberline Falls for whole days or those that have to resort to hacking so they can farm nodes and trees.. at least farming maps is less mind numbing than that IMO.

Can I get a refund for $400 of wasted gems?

in Account & Technical Support

What I am saying is there are lots and lots of variants in regards to players rigs… to be 100% stable for every one is nigh impossible and sometimes things don’t work out for a some players… and some get fixed reasonably quick others not so quick and unfortunately some might never be fixed due to the nature of the incompatibility.
Show me any MMO or SP game that can boast such a flawless compatibility across the globe, cos imo such a game wont exist.

Sure sometimes patches break things and I hate it when it does but sounding off in a forum about a tri-monitor flaw that’s emerged and demanding a refund on gems when actually the game is still more than playable on a single or dual monitor setup is laughable, especially the way the OP has gone about it…. yes the patch has likely messed up his tri-monitor Eyefinity usage, for now but the fix might take time or it might be fixed in hours, who knows I mean the patch isn’t even 24hrs old yet, cmon lets not get to hasty.

In regards to your memory leak issues.. again pretty much evey MMO I have played has this pop up, especially when it creeps up the longer your playing, so as general rule I tell my son to log off every hour and relog… a workaround you may say, but I call it preventative measures. Though I have never actually witnessed any issues on his PC due to memory leaking but that’s the point… everyone has different setups and to date I have not utilised any tweaks or workarounds to get things to wotk other than driver updates and routine defrags, virus checks. Granted before I loaded it up for him I did add an extra 1GB of memory, maybe that helped.. paired memory at that.
