So is all of Abbadon 5+ v 1 fights? No one wants to fight unless it’s heavily outnumbering or if there is a 1v1 as soon as there’s trouble it goes to 5+ v 1.
Yeah I found that to be quite funny as well on EB last night Zen.. AB are only brave enough to numbers stomp, when the odds are even they run with their tails between their legs.
Oh to the 2 x AB rangers and Thief thinking they were all that at Ogres last night.. 3 v1 was fun shame you ran so fast back to Umber when another came to join me and help even the odds up.. still you cud run but not hide.. thanks for the yellow loot bags.. now I understand why you only engage when the numbers are stacked in your favour..
As for those 3 huge golem rushes on UW EB keep .. glad to know all my siege coin was put to good use…. reminds me I must remember to buy some more inventory bags… they get full up with these AB loot bags so quickly.
Sure your gunna stomp the matchup but numbers and skill don’t seem to work hand in hand as far as I have seen so far… leastways its most fun I have had on UW for weeks.

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Official-state-of-skill-lag-and-server-optimizations
Performance is something that is being worked on for the entirety of the game. We are aware of the issues and are in the process of addressing them as rapidly as we can. Please go to the above link to get more detailed information as Bill is really the point person for all of this work right now. While the impacts of performance are quite clear in WvW, it is not isolated to just WvW and we are in the process of making these changes to the entirety of the game. Direct questions and concerns to that post.
What an embarrassment tbh… you dream up a WvW season.. open server transfers knowing full well it will only add to server queues and skill lag on the most popular server, you already knew the performance in large scale action was at best sub-par but you went ahead full guns anyway to grab the transfer gems costs and now look…. its a complete mess.
UW has at best a mid-bronze tier wvw population left after transfers but even so the skill lag has gone beyond ridiculous. even small scale 2v2’s cant do anything when somewhere else on map another servers zerg is running amok.
I just sat on a catapult at UW garrison as FSP hit west side… it took almost 3mins to move the catapult round to the desired direction and another 3mins to actually get a shot off.. guess what the battle has finished 2mins before and I was hitting nothing.. luckily I think FSP got fed up with it as well and decided to move off.
Shocking performance for an aspect of the game you advertised about so much and then make it unplayable and unenjoyably with this season 1 malarkey without even considering the impact on your own servers.. added to that you put out loads of PvE achieves on top, which I have no issues with but only adds to compound the issue further.. I thought SWTOR was the pinnacle of a MMO performance embarrassment but this is getting to be way worse.. and not just limited to WvW.
This is the reason my guild is heading out this week into the sunset, I would like to say its been fun, in fairness it was for a while but this has killed it which is a shame cos it had potential.
Found a lost UW quaggan inside SM
Unfamiliar territory can do this.
I think the Quaggan may have lost its sat nav the last time it was in SM… sooooo long ago now though and judging from the screenie there be predators a lurking there still
Apparently you don’t understand skill lag or you would know, it has nothing to do with coordinating where people are or distributed networks and latency, it is purely a CPU processing/memory issue. When a lot of people get together and start to try to use a number of abilities at the same time….there are a lot of calculations that get run, (Position coordinates for each player, who gets hit by what, who dodged what etc.) Along with all the damage calculations….hard damage, condition damage….etc. When that happens, it causes a strain on processing power of the server…at a certain point the server can no longer register new abilities because it’s overloaded….thus everyone who is connected that box/server (aka people on the map) cannot use skill abilities until the resources are freed up…nothing to do with people in different countries etc.
Edit: While yes, getting the coordinates from the client and relaying it to the server does take a minuscule amount of time..it is not the bottle neck that ends up causing the skill lag
What you are saying actually makes sense. I hope that I am wrong and this can be fixed in the future.
You are wrong.. skill lag is not being caused by the same issues that affect individuals own game lagging.. otherwise why does it only affect skills and everyone at the same time… its a server side calculation threshold issue and something only ANET can do anything about. Our own connection latency for sure can have issues but that would affect movement, sound, skills, inventory, etc. Granted it can help to make the situation worse for the individual but this lagmonster is a tricksie one and nothing we or our own ISP’s can do about it
Shadey… you just got bit by the UW revenge bug… all those guilds that left UW threadbare are having revenge exacted upon them by the WvW Gods… kinda like an eye for an eye.. UW loses a guild, that guild looses something in return… call it KARMA
or …. Maybe its “The Final Destination” happening all over again – best find a way to break the list
(edited by Bloodstealer.5978)
That’s if you can actually get into Keg Brawl I keep trying via the NPC in Lions Arch and keep getting placed into a random sPvP zone inside the mists… wouldn’t be to bad if it would allow me to thrwo kegs at the pesky opponents for fun but sadly no
Would you rather be outnumbered on every map?
Unfortunately being outmanned on maps makes no difference when it comes to the games performance.
With UW playing Silver with almost no coverage on map, yes we luckily still have 1 or 2 guilds trying to build things but even so last night we were for the most part outmanned all over, que times were pretty normal (no ques mostly, surprise surprise) but the skill lag was just unplayable.. I was roaming across UW BL as well as EB and soling trash guards on supply camps was meeting me 15second skill lags while FSP or FR were playing SM wars or stomping one of our few red towers… and cant recall how many chests I lost out on when bosses or supervisors Righteous Indigantion failed to drop after the timer until the lag had passed and ding no chest but mob dead.
Anyhow like MiLkZz says time to take a break if its not enjoyable and my small guild is doing that. We were happy to still support UW WvW and keep fighting following all the drama and xfers but this shoddy game performance has killed the immersion for us so were gunna finish up the Halloween metas and head back to another MMO for our fun fix.
Good luck to all those still trying their best for UW, much respect and to everyone else in Silver League.
20 players is nothing mate, if someone tells me they have lag with 20 players, i assume something other than skill lag is happening there, that’s all there is to it.
your priceless but as I said the plethora of others who have, like me been in WvW since beta all know and has been openly discussed with devs here that skill lag is there and its server side not ours.. heck I seem to remember not so long ago ANET saying it was working on it and small improvements were being made.
But as I also said your thinking game lag in your bold statements.. others here are talking about something different so I will agree to disagree with your foot in mouth statements.
You obviously haven’t played WvW
Don’t tell me i obviously haven’t played WvW, i’ve played WvW since the start. And i hardly ever roam without a large group. 20 players and u get lag? You must have a pretty crappy setup.
Fool.. read I never said LAG I said skill lag – skill lag is nothing to do with setup otherwise movement etc would all be affected.. my setup is far above the required min for this game.
If my i7 3770k, dual GTX 670’s, 16GB GSKILL DDR3 RAM, GW2 running of a Mushkin 256 GB SSD and a 24MB BB connection with no faults or ISP issues along the route is causing skill lag and the plethora of others all strangely at the same time, then I will bow to your greater knowledge on the subject until then stop making dumb statements and go read up on it.

300% more spines, you’re going to need more bags!
I call your spines and raise you with porous bones!
The rewards included in season 1 achievements should help to address this. Very specifically the ascended crafting materials. It is also the case, that we want people playing all the parts of the game, so there are always going to be optimal ways to get specific rewards and those may not always include WvW. We are building the whole of GW2 and we try and balance things across all the game types.
We will continue to make strides, however, to make WvW feel more rewarding, especially in this type of area.
Hey Devon try coming over to UW WvW with your devs (no que times to worry about) and then try out how long its gunna take players to achieve some of those metas and then consider what the OP has said as well… not interested, didn’t think so —- you really balanced things out for us for sure!
This game has too many conflicting game modes lol, WvWers hate the PvErs, who hate the PvPers who hate everyone else.
I think leagues are alright, eventually the general pop will go down, and skill lag will be rare, it was even rare before when i got in EB.
PvErs will go back to candy farming, zerkers will get frustrated from dying so much and stop queuing, and we’ll have the solid WvW crowd fighting again.
You obviously haven’t played WvW or if you have you musta been strolling around the outback counting butterflies… Skill Lag has never gone away and I cant remember any fight with more than 20 players involved not having some kind of issue.. especially when 3-way action is either close or on top of you…. still at least there is one slight positive from it.. you can feel when there is something sizeable about to jump your group or tower cos that all to common slow down of the game sends the goose pimples up your arm and your brain shouts out ALERT!
Despite the growing pains (queues, puggers, achievement bugs, etc) I feel like new life has been breathed into WvW with the dawn of season 1.
The queuing problem will probably help with server population imbalance. On the higher servers some people won’t even be able to get into WvW enough to get the season meta achievement, so there will certainly be some spreading out as a result of this.
Sure, a lot of PvE players are carrot-chasing newbs, but a big portion of non-WvW players simply have never taken the time to get into it and understand it. It’s a completely different mindset and attitude from PvE – almost an entirely different game – a lot more players than many of you think are going to continue to enter and play WvW after they get their carrots. Why? Because its kittenING FUN why the hell do YOU play WvW? It’s the single most re-playable aspect of the game. It has never received the attention us hardcore players think it should and now we’re crying because it’s getting too much!?
Yes some leagues, NA Gold for example, are decided before they begin – but so many issues we’ve been QQing about for a year have been flipped on their head:
“WvW gets no love” -> the biggest living story achievement set ever? WvW season 1
“Server gaps too big” -> now even middle servers queuing all maps
“T1 gets too much reward” -> good luck T1 even getting in to WvW
“There’s no GvG” -> ok not league-related but they’re giving us a place to GvG!
“It’s a blobfest” -> now you gotta stop blobbing to escape the skill lag
“Matchups are bad” -> not perfect, but much better nowAs far as NA goes, Devon really should be thankful he changed it to 6/9/9 instead of the original 12/12. Crystal Desert vs Anvil Rock or Jade Quarry vs Yak’s Bend would have been just laughable. Now Bronze league is super-competitive and fighting for 2nd and 3rd place in silver is going to be legitimately interesting.
Its a different mindset.. really lets see we get a zerg train running champs all over Tyria in Pve and in WvW we get karma trains playing zergwars in WvW.. yes now I see the difference Karma and WXP as opposed to Loot and Karma…. that mindset is totally different.
Though to be fair what’s left of UW WvW can likely call anything more than 3 opponents bearing down on us a zerg or a blobfest…. funny thing is both FSP and FR still believe they need Golem assaults on us to get the job done
So you want to report some one for inviting you to their party and allowing you to join their group and then kicking you when they don’t feel your good enough to continue. Man you can’t make this stuff up.
clueless is just… clueless
The OP had run 3 maps with them and on the last they likely kicked to sell his spot.. check the LFG board and see how many are doing it now… if the OP had been that subpar they would of booted long before they got to the final Frac.
Learn to read before engaging the big troll hole in ya face
I think the elitism comment was due to the: “People with higher ranks should get priority”. Which is more or less the definition of elitism. Giving people advantages due to them being “better”.
Absolute rubbish… I am in no way an Elitist top notch player and never likely to be but I have ploughed a lot of time into WvW on my server since Beta so yeah I agree with this idea.. its not like rank means all that much in game, but it could be useful tool when looking at server queuing
Borders are nearly empty (as my guildmates can testify), but I’ve been queueing for almost 4 hours. Good job Anet, really good job.
Well being an Underworld player… XxX chose to flip servers what did you expect knowing that with the league season imminent and the new achievements being thrown out there, there was always the likelihood of big ques. Give it a few days and it will more than likely settle down again
I’ve not had to queue on Underworld all night… feel free to come play
Was going well over on FSP BL… but then the first xploiter appears… FSP ele.. 3 times I downed him for 3 times he got str8 back up to full health and then hit me for 24k when in downed state .. seriously dang I wish I had FRAPS on… is this what we gotta put up with as well as inferior numbeoss the match-up
Can you be sure it wasn’t server lag?…lots complaining atm of lag and I have seen it happen when you cant stomp a player when he is downed.
Errmm no it wasn’t lag.. I wasn’t looking for insta stomp I was taking him down first to allow him the chance to use up his down state mist form but he just got back up starting fighting again. So I downed him a second time, same thing happens and … rinse repeat 3 times.. on the forth he didn’t bother ressing to full health he just 1 hit me in downed state…. that’s not lag that BS.
I am certainly not some ubersauce WvW player and my Necro is in no way built or geared to cookie cutter standards but with a full health bar of over 24k I am pretty sure downed state doesn’t do that kinda dmg in one hit and even if there was some lag.. 3 downs prior to the last one would of mean almost insta kill on the 4th.
Its going to be hard enough doing anything in this matchup without opposition resorting to hacks….

I wouldn’t count out your chances for success yet Underworld, you are a very high population server and the new WvW achievements will bring an influx of PvE players into WvW.
If you have pug commanders tagging up at all times, it will be difficult to deal with.
The same might happen with AG, but we usually don’t have any pug commanders, which turns off more casual WvW players.
Lets say there will be an influx of PVE players, because of achievments. If it happens then it will most likely happen to all servers. But the major problem alot of servers will run into is having enough PUG commanders which have some WvW experience and dont rage nonstop at their pugs. PUGs get easily frustrated if they get wiped alot, blaming it on the commander and then leave. So under those circumstances every server should prepare with sufficient enough rooster of PUG commanders. Because some random PVE comm wont be enough.
I think this has already begun .. I just popped into UW EB all looked fine.. our corner was red and only Speldan had swords from Gandara push… Comm Speldan has swords “nothing”… Comm Mendon has swords, could be a Gandara push for corner…“nothing”…. Comm Watergatge – Gandara hitting keep hard – they going for corner – - Now Keep is running a T3 upgrade so I was sure this would trigger a response and it did. – "ALL TO COMMANDER HEAD BRAVOST ! " errrmmmm wtf Bravost is T3 guarded Desolation Tower why would we go there when our corner is being strangled and Keep Wategate smashed and inner gate now at 70%…. ALL TO COMMANDER Bravost!… when someone else put in map chat.. Gandara broken into Lords kittenwit he then calls .. "Lets leave Bravost we cant take it
This should be entertaining at least come reset… for now tho my neck hurts from all the lols
Recently I saw quite a few people from UW’s guilds roaming in our ranks. Is UW’s population THAT desperate?
I think GH will finish either 4th or 5th. We are good at prime time and we have a decent night capping force. But early morning til afternoon we are really, really weak.
Well my guild actually transferd here because UW wvw was dying, and the community with it. Too much drama and such, so we decided we’d like a fresh start on a new server. Gh was a strong choice both community wise and size wise, we can still roam as a guild and the community thus far has been nothing but welcoming to us, which has been really nice.
I don’t understand why you’d call us desperate for leaving our realm.. Unless you’re just being mean to us because we finished you one too many times in wvw before we switched
I just heard this today form RAIN…. surprised yes, but actually no.
After all the drama created from the Underworld Community thread I felt sure APE and RAIN would at least be 2 guilds that would be stopping on UW to help rebuild it, guess times really have gotten hard. I can understand why karma train guilds have upped sticks but hey ho each to there own. That last one was my fault, I’ve been secretly plotting on getting Rain here since last time UW faced Gandara, such great roamers, I just had to have them.
I will take this moment to showcase my evil laugh, which I have been working on for a while – ahem Bwuhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhaaaha – Ha – ha. Ow my fingers hurt
Dooooh that laugh…. are you the mad king by chance?
Anyhow….the Leagues aren’t what interest me if I am honest, in fact I was never really more than someone who enjoyed PvE content and raiding, that’s been my background in MMO’s for what seems like an eternity. GW2 PvE though is rather stale so myself an another guild mate took ourselves out of our comfort zones since beta and roamed across the maps flipping what and where we could and learning as we went.. then we stumbled kinda hap-hazardly really across these guys and tbh it only served to further my enjoyment of WvW…
I sooooo dislike the Zergwars thing and APE/RAIN are well organised small roaming groups (I say groups but they often run as one) and its been fun to run with them these past months. So no matter where they end up I wish them well. Both have quality players and excellent commanders and their styles of play will surely benefit Gandara or wherever they flip to – if indeed the guilds actually flip elsewhere.
At the end of the day players come and go, they move around like army ants hunting their fun and prey… surely any WvW player does that, especially those who by either their own admission or by others are deemed better, stronger, faster, bloodthirstier (I so wanted to say Elitist but to me WvW has its roots firmly planted in the PvP aspect of the game and it can, and should bring a little bit of that out in all of us if were honest ). So no matter what server your on, no matter what drama has unfolded these past weeks ( and yes my own server Underworld has been rife with drama as we all know, and as a result we may finish last but we might just surprise a few along the way as we try to rebuild the foundations), try to enjoy it –
To me all this nonsense is not the fault of the players or the Guilds that have left servers… they move to wherever they can get their best fun fixes and competitive thrills(isn’t that the point of playing WvW)… imo its ANET who are at fault for the way its all been ball juggled and thrown into place, thinking with their purses is unfortunately their only goal as it is for any business selling a product and the knock on effects are irrelevant to them.
On that note – Good Luck to everyone in Silver League may the fights be blood filled and blood spilled but more importantly – - HAVE FUN !
Now back to that laugh… I have had some time to play it back in my mind, I think I have it – You Sir are in fact the Bloody Prince – your sinister plot making was the big give away

OP, of course its a timesink moneygrab content addition… this is a business not a game to ANET – as such they need to create potential revenue streams. They know many players like to get everything in a heartbeat and likely would if the content was so easily completed.. and by completed I mean you have gotten everything. So ANET have provided those players with that option, but it comes at a cost. For us normal happy go lucky loggers we can grind and play RNG, but with the high numbers of mats etc involved ANET know they have the timesink as their Ace card cos invariably players get bored of repetitive stuff and fall back to the credit card instead. On the flipside they know if they can offer the chance of nice shinnies and some fun along the way they will keep players logging in regardless and in doing open up the opportunity of other random cash shop sales taking place… so its a win, win for them and us.. without hook and bait players would long of grown bored of the games low repeat value and gone elsewhere or stopped spending coin pushing the game closer to the break even/maintenance model like others have done so soon after launch.
It is a valid tactic best done by heads of servers who coordinate things properly, or those who has the say in the community.
It worked well for us in the past (not tarnished coast my new server). It is one way to ensure you and your friend server is top 1 and top 2.
But this is not easy because you have to know how to be sociable and you have to keep secrets from your player base or those whom you command. ;3
Oooohhh so there are heads of servers.. dang I musta missed the vote.
No no no… double teaming is pure lame, how does a server look to improve tactically across its players and guilds if you resort to relying on another server to help you out in a matchup.. pure lame imo.
UW has been dropped off the edge of a cliff these past 3 weeks due to this crappy league implementation and even more ridiculous transfer fiasco but I would still prefer to play and loose than ask one of our current matched servers to double team against the other.. only ANET could dream up worse ideas.
20 pugs? UW doesn’t have that many
A cheat to get Golums thats a new one,it’s all very well having 100’s of them but then you need the people to put in them
Yes there is a cheat to get golems or maybe you have missed the duping posts that have been mysteriously killed off by ANET.. strange thing is duping exploits have popped up in 3 MMO’s in last few weeks. But true, having them and manning them are 2 different things entirely.. UW would at least look guarded in their keep if we lined the walls with empty suits
we are still on uw but we are leaving in few day,we are just trying to figure out where to go,ty for the evening the start was really too much blobby we tryed to gather all the pug on eb to handle that but was really impossible, deso and gandara got the queue for eb for sure.
Thanks to Inv and Yak and dont remember the other guild name for the fight.Ps:UW is alrdy in bronze league,so we cant stay there and is the only reason for that.
Actually XxX and namely you are one guild I wont miss from UW WvW.. so much tripe from one player.. nothing to see here… move along and try closing the door quietly, not that is ever gunna be possible for you.
OP I would suggest growing up a little then come back and try to enjoy your in game experience without the need for such infantile emoting.
Oooh fun times….. I dislike all the champ farm train and world boss egg timer rotations so this sounds great fun. Anets stupid rotation and respawn mechanics have moulded players into thinking they own the pixels they chase and no one else is allowed to do what they want… If your ever on Underworld this sounds like something I could help with
Any that cant deal with you playing the game you want to can just be easily blocked to eliminate the hassle from them and a quick report click might yield some extra icing on the cake for you.
You know as much as I loathed SWTOR for it poor performance and management of the servers upto the point a large proportion of the servers became ghost towns, what they did to try to balance things would I think make sense in GW2… create a transfer window where players were given a choice of free transfer destination servers… these will of course target lower pop servers in an effort to balance out levels… those low servers that are left then get merged with other low pop servers…. simples really.
By implementing such an open transfer policy in GW2, ANET is allowing the situation to become worse for many servers and I am talking across the whole spectrum of activity not just WvW, sPvP or WvW. Another school boy error by ANET was to not lock transfers out for a period of time after their League announcements before providing a managed transfer policy as already stated… end result now is that some servers are being stripped of numbers in such areas as WvW – just another nail in the games longevity imo…..time will tell though.
Only 20 in SM? Something tells me your ISP hit a hiccup……..
Most of my skill lag occurs on reset night when 3 huge zergs are fighting inside the lords room in SM…but that’s expected, haha
Please explain then if an ISP has a hiccup its only the players skills that lag not his movement, his sound, his chat etc etc… and why then does WvW light up complaining about skill lag unless of course were all having the same ISP hiccup… I was in that smallish SM slapfight and it was as bad a having a 3-way blobfest .
Try to engage thought before vomiting dumb kitten answers.
And no.. in a game that puts the effort into to advertising its WvW feature like ANET have skill lag is not to expected, its just plain poor handling of their server tech imo and for me it can be gamebreaking to the point I just log out and go log into another MMO instead, as I am sure others do.
The first thing you wrote on the thread?
“You are all three of you a disgrace to our server”
I played devils advocate and said it would give is time to reorganise but its ethically messed up, I never said i was agreeing to it or was going to do it yet you started personal attacks because 1 guild had voted on it already even if ironically you blame 2 other players not in that guild :P
It wasn’t my plan, i came online and saw a thread, commented on it. I haven’t been on guildwars today, haven’t spoken to any of the other guild leaders about any such plans and don’t actually agree with doing it.
Anet screwed us over in my opinion, I don’t blame the other 2 guilds for venting about it on our forum though and they should be able to bring it up even if its everyone else saying they disagree.
Why you keep saying “your plan” i have no idea, even the guys who made the thread said it wasn’t my idea and they haven’t spoken to me about it… you need to stop causing flame wars without actually reading what people write its embarrassing for uw, we cant make a thread without someone like you causing a flame war because you didnt actually read it.
TBH Phoenix the forum posts are just a minor additive to what most of us playing WvW have already seen with our own eyes… the maps are all but desolate of our prime guilds and AA stated they were now withdrawing from their defensive holds.. add to that the lack of any queing during primetimes and a complete turnaround in matchup points again this week… it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to draw any other conclusion to that which Vaacrow has highlighted.. and whether its UW community forum or GW2 public forum is irrelevant, things have been discussed and made clear behind other closed doors and the knock on effect is a drastic demolition of UW WvW of late.
You can paint it in as many shades of grey as you like, but others see it as black and white, but that said tbh I don’t care if those guilds/players and commanders disappear from the server whether by choice or by enforcement (though we know ANET aren’t that brave to do anything about matchup manipulations for fear of loosing more than it can gain) in fact I think I would prefer to let UW rebuild off the back of it even it that means dropping down even lower. I play for the fun aspect not the politics though what I consider fun doesn’t involve commanders pre -arranging map flips with other servers or running WXP/Karma trains against inferior numbers so with these players doing what they want to do can only make my WvW more fun whether I stomp or get stomped by other server players. Its just disappointing to find out its happening and by the guilds involved.. like I said though earlier I guess others idea of fun is zerg farming across maps endlessly and then log/transfer off when they suddenly see they have to put some skill and effort in to get rewards when matched up against better guilds/players from other servers.
(edited by Bloodstealer.5978)
Big disappointment is all I can say, then again I guess some only like to put their all in when their zerg train has the superior numbers when player skill becomes irrelevant.
Guess we better get used to seeing the Outmanned graphic on our screens a lot more. Still, I enjoy running alongside APE and RAIN and if they are still planning on showing up I see no reason to stop lending a hand where possible.. win loose or draw, its all fun.
As for the carpet baggers I hope ANET takes note of what their shoddy matchup/League system can do to servers in such a short space of time… I will hazard a guess Underworld is not the only server to be doing this though and I will be the first to raise a glass and cheer if those players taking this cheaters approach get dealt the hand they deserve by ANET, but we all know that wont happen because ANET don’t have a clue how to resolve such issues anyway.
This is a thread on MMORPG.com
http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/thread/397542/page/1
Talking about how Leveling really arent that interesting of a goal, after so many MMOs have this same goal in their game. When I first started playing MMOs, yeah I thought Levels were cool and needed. But that was before I open up to the reality after playing MMOs and leveling for a while.
I realized then, just how meaningless the levels really are. Its just a visual content lock. I join a game, “FORCED” to level, just to get access to the things I enjoy as being fun. The World is small as a low level. Gets bigger as a high level.
This takes away the fun and gates it behind a lock. the key to the lock is the dreaded “you must be level X to do Y”
MMOs are now full of meaningless Leveling.
Some MMOs add large grinds to the above scenario of “you must be level X to do Y”, and yet that still only makes the situation worst.
Some MMOs have shorter grinds of this. But its still a Useless grind. No matter how shorter or harder the grind of leveling in a MMO is, its still will be a meaningless grind.
In GW2 we have a down scale system. We have a up scale system for WvW.
Why not get rid of Levels all together so we have the freedom to just have fun and play what we like.
How long are levels really suppose to keep your players entertained?
I want all content, to be for all players. No leveling content, not stupid leveling hearts.
All Content for ALL PLAYERS!!
Leveling in GW2 is meaningless, I will agree there but levelling in MMO’s has a very relevant purpose if designed correctly.
What makes me laugh is how GW2 likes to promote its living breathing world and living story… levelling should be geared to such life traits… in RL I cant do certain things until I have learned them or matured enough to engage in things.. MMO levelling works along the same lines except in GW2 its falls way short of exciting.
I mean I can gather carrots all day today and gain say 24XP per carrot at lvl 1.. within a few hours I am lvl 2 or 3 just by pulling carrots. Add to the fact that same carrot begins to increase in XP value as I become more experienced in gathering carrots.. makes levelling a real mockery imo. Levelling should be a goal that is engaging, has challenge and helps to immerse you in the game… GW2 lacks that greatly imo.. and now we even get skill point scrolls from rewards, chests etc meaning even those skill unlocks through level advancement are shot down before the player even begins… I have over 250 in the bank.. roll a new toon and I have all skills already unlocked and ready to go before I am anywhere near to unlocking the tiers.
In short I agree with you in GW2 levelling is sloppy, far too easy and therefore meaningless.. in better MMO though I have to disagree a liitle.
I am playing a Necro and the problem is that using a spear, it really is a melee weapon. So I cannot kite nor can take much hit.
Seriously… Necro underwater combat is excellent… you have both ranged combat and melees plus you have your shrouded combat abilities and 2 forms of healing + minions.. if I am near water either in WvW or PvE and I being stomped I just hit the water and more often than not am the one jumping back on land with all body parts intact.
To be honest land combat is far less balanced than underwater combat imo.. maybe that’s the real issue, people have grown to used to playing their certain OP classes encapsulated within a zerg on land and don’t like the relative combat balance underwater where its much more likely to be smaller scale fights requiring a bit more personal skill and awareness of their classes.
I hope they don’t nerf it, it’s been a fun and profitable way to level my newest alt. I hope they nerf dungeons because people just farm them over and over and they’re not enjoyable in any way whatsoever.
And your not farming champs over and over of course… double standards much!
Anets idea of a living breathing openworld environment is to create a groundhog day effect because they know the actual openworld events have next to no replay value in them. To keep players logging in they have pushed everyoneone into a farm frenzy in order to catch the carrots they take pleasure in dangling.. want that nice legendary or ascended then go grab the mats… don’t wanna farm the mats go buy from the TP.. wait need gold for tp or for gems so create farm rotations and players will come back time and time again. Of course the more players log in, the more likely the will tire of champ trains and fall back into the credit card/gems approach instead.. simple MMO herding tactics and we all love it and hate it.
I am no fan of champ trains or boss rotations.. ANET seem clueless as to how to keep players in game without it, but that’s how it is.
Personally I would prefer it if they gave all openworld content a makeover, get rid of rotations and have champs/bosses spawn on a random trigger by something in game , like joe blogs killed a spider in Queensdale .. ding something somewhere on map gets triggered. Whilst they are at it take away the guaranteed rare item but make loot trees more appropriate and place a 12hr timer on being able to loot that champ purse again.
And don’t even get me started on boss guesting causing overflow issues for players on their own map.. that BS needs to get sorted.. you wanna guest expect Boss event lock outs for 1hr before you can get involved, maybe then the problem will reduce, not entirely but some for sure.
Errrm I am getting a sense “its too hard, so its dull and rubbish, especially cos I cant skip mobs to complete”… well too bad.
This dungeon is frustrating at first for sure, isn’t that how it’s supposed to be otherwise what’s the alternative – run past everything, get to boss and 111111 it to death, collect reward and repeat.. ooh wait we got plenty of those already in GW2.
We get it you don’t like it cos you cant jog on thro for easy achievs, no instead you gotta try things, learn things and use a bit of skill and coordination.
Nothing new to read here, just another “cry me a river” thread.
Oh you can get to be abused on a regular basis… fun times, worth the 100g just for that
I use a Razer Death Adder and its definitely suffering the same issue.. targeting has always been tosh in this game but its gotten worse with recent patching for sure imo
I’ve found the lfg tool to be great so far. It sounds like your problem is with people.
I fear your suggestions would lead to elitism and a squashing of the noobish masses. That probably isn’t in Anet’s best interest, though I understand your frustration.
Sorry I don’t agree with your notion that adding a simply accept / decline feature can bring in an elitist twist to the game.
I am not one for elitist BS but the OP has a point. I like the LFG, its simple and easy to use without the unnecessary baggage that some other MMO’s place into it but there is a need for a grp leader acceptance button before anyone joins a group.
Look its a simple fact that when someone wants to get things done in the time they have available and they are experienced enough to know what gets that job done effectively then so be it they have every right to dictate the requirements of the group he/she is forming… that is not being elitist that is being selective.
Where does it state in the T&C’s that it is a requirement for experienced players to have to hand hold other through content.. I must of missed that part. Don’t get me wrong I will help where I can, if I can and time allowing but that doesn’t mean I should orientate LFG’s to accommodate hand holding and butterfly counting.
Also experience tells me that no matter how hard someone tries to cover all bases in an LFM there is always some idiot that either doesn’t bother to read, isn’t old enough or smart enough to understand the need or worse is trying to be clever and chance their luck.
Lets be honest the more elitist among us will be easily identifiable via the LFM’s so its easy to avoid such groups, I certainly do… so simple solution then is either to look for another or.. and this is a novel idea I know – put up your own LFM and make it clear your not looking for a speed run etc etc… then when it fails 7 or 8 times you might begin to understand some dungeons require certain things.
I will say tho OP I really see no point setting out AP requirements it doesn’t tell an awful lot really, but I absolutely agreed ANET need to change the auto group thing and put a small amount of control in the hands of the group leader otherwise this forum will soon be ablaze with threads from players accusing others of kick griefing etc etc – better to decline players for obvious mismatched things like class, level.
But this argument is older than the hills and both sides are right and wrong depending on your particular needs and views.. and this is now the umpteenth thread about the same thing!!!

I used the ingame LFG tool to search for competent players for AC speedruns. Lowlevels and signet warriors flooded my party, joining faster than I could kick them. My announcement clearly stated who I wanted to play with. Nobody read it, everyone simply joined. Guess, I will stick with gw2lfg.
Yip I guess that’s the one area that perhaps needs some addressing – its a beta roll out so things might get tweaked. I said in another thread that some form of request to the group leader should be sent which has a basic outline of the player wanting to join – ie class and lvl. If group leader is ok with it then click accept or if not decline. No matter how well anyone advertises, there are always players who lack the intelligence to read and just click, as well as many who just try to chance their luck and hope to be carried through a dungeon.
Speed-runs, are kitten for an MMORPG, just as bad as zergs. It’s ZERO fun.
Class elitism is kitten for an RPG, but that’s on the devs. No trinity.
GW2 can support a LFD system, but if everyone wants FOTM gear and CLASSES, you have destroyed that fragile system before it has even been implemented.
DPS being the only stackable stat? kitten OFF Anet!
GET a BrAiN!
Well I guess your not one for open discussion.
As much as I dislike the lack of class / build variety in GW2 its not the fault of the players or the players advertising on the LFG. The have every right to group up how they want and with whom they want.. its the fault of ANET for developing dungeons that do not offer enough in the way of class requirements and class skills.
But the way you choose to discuss it is to rage and insult.. not really a pre-cursor for any potential 2-way discussion with anyone from ANET – not that they are ever likely to respond in this thread or countless others for this very reason.
Fact is players wanted an LFG.. ANET gave us one so use it or not, its very simple so why the rage and insults. If your not happy with what players are asking for on their LFG then again its quite simple, put up your own LFG and ask for what you want… now was that so hard!
Worthless ATM.
Only 1 or 2 post in some categories. People with it don’t even know it.
In other words: Impossible to give an opinion yet.
Not worthless imo its simply being rolled out in a controlled beta so its usage and coverage will be lighter to start with…. I have had no issues picking up players or picking up a group.
Only those who have access can join groups so its not going to be overly busy yet.. I myself only got access to it yesterday, so as more player gain access it will become more useful I am sure. Added to that I would imagine ANET are already assimilating comments and discussing any tweaks/improvements they might deem useful.
The only thing I think might be useful is instead of auto joining a party there should be an accept request option for the group leader in case the “need zerk warrior” LFG keeps getting hit with eles, necro’s etc as not everyone likes kicking players from groups / being kicked from group. The rest looks kinda fine to me, simple design not encumbersome to the eye and does what it says on the tin.
Guild has nothing to do with it.. you can still run guild and place an LFG whether your new old, casual or hardcore… whilst also acting as way of reducing all that endless map spam LFG messages – all ANET need to do now is eliminate all the desperado guild recruiting spam as well
.
I have absolutely no issues with players placing all their elitist requirements into their LFG, its their party they want to get running so its up to them.. makes it easier for players like me avoid such groups tbh.
The LFG is aimed at serving all kinds.. if you want to be elitist but are too lazy to specify your requirements then that’s your fault, likewise if your not reading the LFG specifics for a group and you join blindly then expect to be kicked.
No matter what the LFG looks like or includes within it tooling their will always be those for it or against it.. show me an MMO forum that doesn’t blurt out the same for and against arguments.
Personally I think its all we need in game, will hopefully reduce the map spam and so far seems pretty efficient in filling groups quickly compared to the likes of another MMO that shall not be named
Best effort from UW yet.. got Teq to 30%.. just needed a few less deaths at the start of phase 1, once the turrets got organised on the cleansing things vastly improved… another minute 45 seconds and UW would of tasted dragon ears this night
I understand what you are saying Hawkian and appreciate the suggestion…but then I’m farming zone to zone instead of enjoy the content of the game. I’m learning about the centaur problems and all of that Kessex Hills, and now I have to go out immersion, go into some totally different zone just get some small bones or whatever?
Errrm no one forces you to leave zone just to go farm some different tier maps. You want to experience each map/zone and each particular event line, story etc then why would hunting for tier 2 mats in a zone derail progression, its not like you need to endlessly craft gear to complete a map or even the next one on.. plus you pick up so much trash loot along the way, crafting at lower levels is all but meaningless.
So why do you need to break away from your immersion in a map.. the only one choosing to do that is you.
First, baseball is boring.
Second: Im not calling myself a mastermind or a pre-cog, but oneismple player catching a huge design problem in 10 minutes vs a design team that had months to plan and execute….eh, I dont consider that mistake that a human can make. If you have many people making decisions and coming up with ideas, chances are someone has to have seen this coming. All of their decision makers cannot be THIS short sighted. Its a simple concept that I was able to see right off the bat. Many were involved with that decision. Either the decision makers didnt care to listen to reason, or they were all incompetant and they should hire me as an outside consultant because I do see things a few steps down the road.
Ive predicted this next one a few times before…
We are slowly getting ascended gear. We are told that its probably, most likely the last tier of gear. We also have been told that the level cap very well could be raised some day. Arenanet has two options: Scale our level 80 gear to the new level cap. Or, make us grind for a new level 90 ascended gear set. This will be a hot one on the forums and I want you to remember me calling this way in advance. I said tihs back in November when they first announced ascended gear. Once we they raise the level cap, nothing is stopping them from making us grind new gear (like any other MMO).
You will have concrete evidence of your gear grind there. It would be irrefutable.
Of course this is all speculation, but it is a reasonable conclusion to come to.
We get it your da expert inda house.. yet you have absolutely no idea of what is actually involved in testing software, let alone something as complex as an MMO.
The true test of anything that gets pushed out is when its live.. live stress testing places the code into high demand, high stress and with millions and millions of interactions going on every second that’s when something like cascading coding may emerge not when joe on his workstation is cycling a small portion of code to see if x = y then move z ……
A PTR has uses but its not the be all and end all of software testing in fact in 10years of playing MMO’s and using test servers pretty much every single one still rolls content out bugs and exploits even after months of PTR release.
Simple fact is by its very nature an MMO is a beast to tame.. everything added after release has the potential to cause issues elsewhere in the coding and like any other MMO out there always does… show me one that doesn’t – and don’t tell me WoW doesn’t cos although I’ve never played that bag of tosh even I remember all the outcry when servers went down for a whole day for maintenance, and 8 hours every week for this that etc… wow has been hacked over and over and still is… but its still a success in the MMO world all the same.
I hate bugs and exploits and GW2 certainly tests my patience at times but even MMO’s like Wow, DDO, EQ etc etc that have ben around the block many times still push out content that has bugs in it.. some you notice some you don’t and some you learn to ignore.
So please quit the “ANET QA is rubbish blah blah blah”.. no one forces you to log in and if you can do better go do something about it.
Wait, how exactly do mini’s which do absolutely nothing other than run around your feet have any bearing on the actual game?
The game is B2P, you can get EVERY single bit of content in the game for in game gold. Yes its true you can. There is NOTHING in the gem store that actively forces you to purchase it to progress content. There is nothing in the gem store you cannot get by simply playing the game.
How is this in anyway related to a F2P model which actively requires you to purchase content to progress your class, or purchase access to BiS gear, or require you to purchase accesss to level up beyond an arbitrary level, or that requires you to purchase different “races” just to change character type?
In short it doesnt have any relation whatsoever to F2P.
I already answered this in my last reaction and in the original topic but will be more specific to your question here. A F2P model means your main income comes from the cash-shop. A P2P model means your main income comes from subscription and a B2P model means your main income comes from box-sales (the original game and expansions).
The idea that a game is only F2P if it’s basically is B2W (your explanation in short) is flawed. Many F2P games are B2W but that by itself does not make it F2P. Where the main income comes from and so where the company puts it focus makes the business-model.
There business if focus around… makes business-model.
GW2 has it focus now on the cash-shop, you can also see that in many ways and so this game uses a F2P business model. The name F2P is simply evolved that way because games that are free to play nearly always try to make there money with the cash-shop but it’s just a name. The fact that you buy a game does not make the business model not focusing on cash-shop… so being the F2P business model.
So in short. GW2 uses a f2p business model but next to that they also ask money to buy the game.
You have missed the point completely imo.
B2P has a box sale focus.. but that model is unsustainable as demand falls off a cliff sooner rather than later. Anet never stated that this game was going to be modelled purely on box sales but has always stated it would include a cash shop, whether that be for gems or for items.
F2P and B2P have very similar modelling as both require additional revenue streams to continue to fund its expansion and actual existence.. it is irrelevant if they now want to focus on a future expansion, tbh I think any MMO gamer would realise the game would have to have one at some point in time…. the game will begin to look dated so a fresh coat of paint some new bells and whistles and a nice large wad of content does wonders in this respect.. but to do it takes time and money, lots of money…
You think box sales make enough to repay the shareholders, the company, the employees, the third parties, taxes, fuel, electricity, the tea lady…. no it helps to pay back its initial investment and hopefully a tidy wedge of profit.. but then the game has to stand on its own two feet.. cash shop is how they choose to do it and a cash shop needs refreshing as well.
Why is F2P = BTW… explain your point, cos honestly I think your firing blanks and have no real understanding of what it is your actually arguing about.. its all sounds like mom took the credit card away and now ya gotta work for toys and sweets and your simply being a F2P hater.
What is ANET selling in there cash shop that makes it a B2W.. mini’s, boosts, bank tabs or just the other fluff.. and in case you forget ANET only dangles the carrots its for you to decide whether you want to buy it or not.
