It doesn’t look like ANet takes suggestions seriously from topics that they hasn’t specifically ask (like the CDI). Sometimes some devs will post meaningless phrases like “yes we looking at threads, just not responding.” But don’t let that stop you from
complainingmaking constructive feedback, because the game will not improve if the devs think people are happy with it.Thing is, overall people are probably very happy. The forums show a minority snapshot, driven there by being unhappy with the game in the first place.
You think its just the forums voicing issues .. have you logged in recently.. cos on my home server and several others I’ve either guested on or have friends on.. it isn’t that pretty 99% of the time and all based around a common theme.
But yes I agree the forums are a minority at least I sincerely hope it is.. but it is also a snapshot/small sample of what is being felt/said in game a lot of the time so I consider it to be a spill over effect rather than a minority report.

The average score so far seems to be 6.
If a game got 60/100 on metacritic it would be seen as quite the failure, I would not consider this a good result for Arena Net.
Well in fairness to the law of averages my OP was predominantly asking how players rated the finale of Living Story Season 1.. to which I think the average is likely much lower.
However its interesting to see the mix of views when considering LS S1 overall.. I would be inclined to agree with many of those who have posted here.. in saying LS s1 overall has been an up and down ride with some decent patches (Frost & Flame), Atherblade Dungeon and even some of the story had some interesting hero/villain plot but too often things were just too buggy, too laggy and to easy to farm or forget.. lacking the depth and substance to really bring servers together as it was intended.
I commend Anet for attempting to breaking up zergplay this time round (even if it was after the horses had bolted) but what they have actually done is force the map to split into 3 zergs smashing the 1 key and dodge key, which isn’t really to revolutionary a concept.. and to top it off its scaling and lack of appreciation of server pops throughout the day not just 1 hr during primetime, made this a real tedious and frustrating ending. I just hope as many as possible were able to grab as many achievs like 6min to Knightfall before the fire engines and band aids were thrown in cos I sense those things are wildy beyond us mere mortals now… and I wont even start on trying to get enpugh power cores now to even do 1 back piece let alone those for alts…. especially as the RNG Gods have never liked this poor mortal.

Novaan, its not about “us failing in our challenge”. Its not a player challenge. Its just a question of luck, or oyu get a miracle try, or you will not achiev.
Luck =/= Challenge
While I admit that this is true (and I also dislike server-achievements, but that’s a different topic), you don’t really need a “miracle”, but an organized server. Overflows will most likely not do it (that’s why I want the district system back), but main servers have pretty good chances.
Disagree… Main servers are failing to achieve it as much as overflows, my home server does and several that I have guested to or have friends on are also suffering the same fate.
Do agree with the Districts renaissance though.

Just wondering has anyone done the 6 minute achievement since the patch of patches hammered down on us – I am guessing a couple of server have but also thinking its not many.
Gotta agree with the majority here .. the scaling is so bad and is far from dynamic.. on the flipside I wonder when ANET are going to fix the minor text error in the achievement panel – - I am convinced it should be 60mins to Knighfall after the patch

Well so far as small samples go it’s not overly encouraging… as many of you preferred to score it.. ‘ll chip in with a 4/10 which I call a FAIL.. but not DIRE as I thought things like the idea to break up a zerg (no matter how poorly implemented and bug ridden it has been) as well as the cutscenes did bring something to the ending and yeah I agree the cutscenes, as with many of the LS updates was quality work…
Unfortunately the rest of it proved to be nothing more than a mess of particle effects and a DPS race with the odd dodge rolled into it… killing off condi builds because they are too lazy to implement better condi mechanics and individual stacking on bosses just for me showed a lack of time and resourcefulness in this LS approach.. hopefully going forward they will use this shambles as a pre-cursor of how not to development content… but hey that’s just my opinion.

No need for drawn out explanations, there are enough threads out there already to put your views across , just a simple – PASS FAIL or utterly DIRE
I rate it a FAIL personally, which is a shame as I have actually enjoyed LS season 1 for the most part.
No these “quest”, they are actually called events, are not a DPS check, they are events that encourage people to play together. The biggest problem right now is, that there are way to many “unique snowflakes” around that keep shouting “I PLAY HOW I WANT AND YOU PLAY HOW YOU WANT” which is something that just doesn’t work in a genre that is all about playing together.
That has nothing to do with anything.
Sure A.Net said a lot times “play how you want” but I am pretty sure they meant “play however you want, but try to be reasonable” and not “well yeah just don’t try at all, just press autoattack everything will be fine other people will piggyback you through this”
“Play however you want, so long as it’s a Zerker Warrior. We included seven other classes and a dozen or so other stat combinations, but they are all clearly inferior because pure, Powerbased DPS is the only thing that matters. Heck, we even added a two phases in this fight in which Condition damage is literally worthless.”
I’m starting to think people just want to hit a dragon totem for half an hour! You don’t have to DPS massively, you just have to stay alive which seems to be poorly explained given the number of dead people I see
I have never died in a Knight fight, and have only been downed a handful of times out of about two dozen so far. I’ve still been part of 3-5 failed events, because we were unable to deal enough DPS within the time limit.
too bad, warrior dps is only average.
there is no dps test in gw2. people are just playing really bad.
The condition reflect is stupid. Period.
A lot of people play full condition builds. What are they supposed to do?they should stop using a damage type that was never designed to be the “main” damage type in this game, until arenanet changes it.
Rubbish.. show me a decent MMO that does not incorporate DoT’s. Condi damage is a main source of damage for various classes/builds, just because you like to mash the 111 key doesn’t mean others do. So please enlighten me why such builds were never designed to be the main damage type… I don’t ever remember reading about that.
Then why bother with anything more than “if people learn to dodge the extraction attack* and it’s other mechanics”? You rattled off a long list of power-based things people should do instead of talking about how they should play better.
Because a good player is not defined by how big his gear numbers are but by how much he tries to maximize his contribution to the fight and this means, buffs, knowing the encounter and adapting his skills or even traits to the fight.
Really… so it takes awesome sauce skills to drink a pot, grab a buff from an NPC all in aid of what.. ooh yeah maximising stats to support your dmg output.
If it wasn’t a DPS check why they does the encounter negate a large proportion of build characteristics.. pretty much every skill/trait line uses some kind of condi dmg unless your prepared to stand and play the 111122111 game… that’s not skill that’s lazy content. As for knowing the encounter yah I will give you that.. its tough to know when hit your dodge key with so many other people covering the floor space and particle effects whizzing round ya eyeballs constantly…
As for adapting skills ywhat your really trying to say is .. take out as much of your condi lines and stick on ya zerk stuff and mash 111 .. .. there trait lines adjusted, shall we begin!

“Break up the zerg! It’s ruining the game!!!”
“Gah! Let us zerg! What happened to ‘play how we want???’”
I don’t understand why Arena.net “doesn’t listen to their fans.” It’s not like the player base wants different things or anything.
Except it hasn’t really broken up the zerg.. all that happens now is you get 3 smaller zergs.. and that’s if your lucky enuff to be on a server/overflow with enuff to form the other 2 zergs.
Add to that players are being forced into playing outside of their chosen builds because anets way to slow progression of the event is to make condi builds an enemy of the state.
I am no fan of zerg content but this patch has only made many servers turn away from completing it.. instead players just take the 1 chest and go kill a few random champs and achievement champs until the next knights spawn then rinse repeat. Why? cos unless your able to play in that narrow prime time slot the events is all but out of reach… scaling is good for a reason and this event just sucks donkey if your server/overflow is shortmanned most of the time imo.

Well imo this event is just a washout… first you market all the nice stuff that the knights can drop on top of the deluxe chests.. except they didn’t drop nowt, not even the chests…. then you change it and hope we swallow it nicely except completing a single knight is for the most part out of reach until maybe peak server time and even then the reward is watered down…. you have wasted so many players time and effort, For me im done with it, I’ve killed the wicked witch of the north enuff times and gpt my helm skin and ascended Back item – I can do without a pretty color on it.. next time don’t mislead ya playerbase, we might like you all a bit more.
Ooh and the stealth nerf to up DR and down DPS whilst pumping the scaling is just lame kitten lazy mechanics imo… for what exactly? – - Oh yeah splititing up the zerg so we have 3 zergs instead of 1. pfft worst event patch so far thank god your taking a break from LS… maybe you might start putting some proper thought into developing content that doesn’t attract zergwars in the first place.

Of course… working on a (pulls 2 numbers from magicians hat!) 1:5 ratio we can expect to see some Power Cores distributed in the mail accordingly can we then?? .. so my 15ish sets of knights thus far wont be wasted time and effort.. I mean I don’t expect to get power cores every time I make a significant contribution to dissing the knights but to get only 2 loot drops (zero cores) total from what 45 knights is no fun at all… guess I got more chance of seeing a flying pig though!!
@Bloodstealer
The point is, there’s threads down the page where people complain about the amount of loot.Just like with scarlet, people complained that she should get offed without any further delay, we get that, people complain.
It’s quite normal for MMOs, though. Part of the large playerbase coupled with internet anonymity. It’s why good MMO devs don’t actually listen much to the part of their playerbase who wants to be listened to – what they tell you is a terrible idea to base your dev work on.
Well wasting hours of time and effort on something that is clearly dysfunctional, without any word or acknowledgement tends to create an even bigger issue.
ANET want people to keep players playing and spending money, then they best make an effort to acknowledge such issues when the playerbase begins to come online and complain in numbers.
You might be a lucky one that’s gotten loot a plenty from this shambles and you might be on the way to or already got your nice collection of power cells.. for many more this has become beyond their reach not due to lack of skill, understanding or commitment .. its down purely to ANET’s pathetic loot mechanic and/or a serious dropping of the quality of life aspect of their game.
People make comments that they are done with GW2, such an such MMO is on the horizon, WoW this WoW that and I am one of those that replies " then cya go play them".. but this kind of shenanigans with content not holding up to what they marketed kinda makes me understand those players feelings that little bit more.
Every MMO has its white knights, villains and rainbow warriors and for good reasons, GW2 is no different.. for the very reasons these threads appear.
People whine for ages about the rewards not being enough.
Anet ups the rewards.
People still whine.
They just can’t win.
Actually getting any loot would be a novelty.. I have done Scarlet enough times on various toons now and found the end chest to be fine.. but the amount of time and effort to get that far would likely see many switch off after they have achieved it a few times if only an end chest was the only reward….
The knights were marketed to drop nice loot, lots of boxes etc but for a hell of a lot of us that simply isn’t the case and nothing drops at all so the end chest “IS” all we get to show for it.. if the run fails its a lot of wasted time and effort and so has the same effect as only having 1 end chest anyway.
Worse still – once you get a completion and your skin etc why bother coming back again for your only chance of something fother than a blue or green from the holo chest and 3 blue bags (the reward next time round for Scarlet) when you can get 10x that in half the time running round LA. – - bottom line is the pre events are not dropping loot properly (probably on purpose) and it wont take long for players to switch off and go run Orr for crumbled bones instead or worse go log into another MMO where its players get some kind of satisfaction.

Well just did my first run around LA this morning.. all 3 knights done as normal in order, I am always pretty quick getting to each and stay targeted throughout, even swapped into full zeker gear to see if it made any difference… not a sausage.. no loot from any of them and many others also complaining…. this is pure tosh even for ANET.
So currently I am 12 full runs (36 knights) .. 2 loot drops … guess their marketing department did good with latest event notes sell cos the loot is pretty kitten awesome.. if you can get any!!

Those dropping in to the thread to say it’s players DPS….. I say tosh!!
Over the course of each Knight fight a player who has less than hardcore zerk DPS still does far more than someone jumping in at the end to spam a tickle or two for loot.
Not every class/build has to be or should be full zerk geared and stacked, but if that’s what ANET want to promote alongside their zerg content then its a pretty lame and shortsighted team they have working on the game imo.
The loot drop mechanic is nothing short of a waste of time right now for many and nothing short of typical ….. but of course this thread will be met with the expected level of response from them as ever – - – SILENCE is golden.

Yip gotta be honest after 12 no loot drops in a row its time to go do something else more rewarding with my time like collecting crumpled bones in Orr. Having already got the whole Scarlet thing completed and my helm firmly placed on my head I see no other reason to keep wasting time on the knights unless ANET does something to sort this “awesome loot drops” they marketed up with…. 1 set of boxes from sooo many knights killed is just silly season.
I am not bothered about the quality of loot rewarded from champs, bosses etc but something to show for the time and effort isn’t too much to ask surely. If I was just popping into the fight at the end to tickle it for the kill I could understand this crap but that’s just not the case.
Remove champion bags from LA champs
in Battle for Lion’s Arch - Aftermath
Posted by: Bloodstealer.5978
In my experience people farm monster masses for the supply bags, not champions for their bags.
Much more pressing problems are the afk people, the designed conflict between liberators and heirloomers and the widespread misunderstanding that reaching the 1200 treshold would not be worth it.
There in lies the biggest issue.. the 1200 reward is really just not worth the effort of running round pressing F for many players.
Don’t get me wrong I do a bit of everything in each run and have done since completing achievements in the first 3 or 4 days..
I tend to do one run when its kinda quiet for heirlooms then the rest I rescue and hit events when there near but having hit max reward many, many times to me its been far more rewarding opening dem bluey bags and champ boxes… eg.. 1200 last night got me 10 dragon coffers (candy and cake.. really,! cheers for that), a skill point scroll, 3 green, 3 Dragonite ore and 9 pieces of dust that I currently have over 25 stacks of already filling up bank space…. and tbh the best I think I have gotten is a the odd yellow item.
So bottom line I can sympathise with those hitting the events for bags and trash loot.. at least Magic Find stat is getting some acceleration
As dor AFK’ers .. well if ANET wont man up and do something about it then it will always be an issue.
First off, Anet, you guys did a pretty darn good job. I really like the event. I love the concept, I love the design team’s burning chaotic city, and I love hating you guys for demolishing all that is Lion’s Arch. I love having the chance to take my stealthy thief out in PvE. I also like you’re taking a proactive step with breaking up mindless zergfest.
…The problem is that most people don’t know that.
We still have players tagging up shouting, ‘Stack on me to win this event!’ People are still zerging for peanut loot bags, and people bypass the dead and terrified citizens. No one seems to understand that saving the citizens of LA is a map-wide effort, and best done by actually saving its citizens. On the first day, my server managed to save close to a thousand people, but I haven’t seen that since. It’s usually stuck around 500.
I get bored of zerging, and have had at more times struck out on my own, or with small groups of players. But there have been one or two times where I’m fighting alone, and someone just runs past without assisting because they’re trying to get to the next zerg event.
Zerging is counter-productive. It scales up events, and it distracts people from saving the scared citizens. Breaking up the zerg needs to be more obvious. There is more loot gained based on the citizens you saved, but everyone will keep zerging because 1) they don’t know there’s a chance to get better loot, or 2) they know, but since too much don’t know/don’t care they’ll just go back to zerging. Basic zerg loot is better than solo loot, if only 500 people are gonna get saving.
I know these events are meant to be ’don’t need an instruction manual and everyone figues it out in five minutes’….but no one’s figured it out.
But the loot is predominantly the issue imo.. the loot is just not worth the effort.. I mean I have seen nothing but blues and greens dropping repeatedly.. granted I haven’t been in a run which has maxed the tally, but have been in several where it hit the penultimate levels.. only for rewards to not even be granted – its been bugged out so many times that its just another reason why its a bit of a fail content release.. its actually promoting zerging not reducing it.. once the achievements are done its nothing more than tractor funfest. The only real effort is getting the high amount of heirlooms for the potions… and many are gunna just buy them now any ways so that’s significantly reduced motivation.
I am not saying I agree with how things are, I dislike zergfesters as much as the next person but sheep mentality is rife in GW2 and all the whiles ANET continue to implement this kind of content so too will the zergwars continue.
Now ANET go fix the ruddy main server event spawn/reward mechanics’ and whilst ya doing it fix Lawson.. 7 times its bugged on me now…. so nothing left to do now other than join the zerg
Yeah many were freaking out about in last night in LA.. annoying as heck for sure.. just as annoying as the age old inventory bug where the next time you open it its been minimized completely and you have to resize everything back… seems we’re destined to be kittens forever in GW2
TBH I notice clones don’t activate using any trait standard skill when holding anything other than an actual Mes weapon…maybe intentional but for instance when gathering/ carrying items to complete Openworld quests with spawns around you, using those right hand UI skills like decoy or mirror can be useful and ultimately they are skills that are there for a reason not just for show.
As other poster has said you cant run with 2 stacking Sigils.. crazy I know but that’s ANET for ya.
However there is a bug now with stacking sigils that’s annoying the hell out of me.
I run with Bloodlust sigils on a few toons…. lets say I am on a jolly and have build say 10 stacks of bloodlust then hit an underwater area.. no issues I have bloodlust on my main underwater weapon… ehhm nope no dice cos the stacks no longer increase.. so I pop out of water and carry on land.. no dice there either now and stacks have simply stopped.
Doesn’t matter what stacking sigil it it.. underwater combat and land combat no longer stack the same sigils and actually prevents continuation of stacks when back using the original stacking weapon… another bug to add to the growing list.. and my Mesmer is all but dust now – cheers ANET!!!
I really dislike the EOTM map. I find it difficult to stay in it longer than 20 minutes.
I like pvp maps and I like PvE maps… I find the 2 meshed together is an unplayable abomination.
What purpose does the EOTM map serve?
Queues are not an issue anywhere.
We had an EBG map and 3 borderlands maps that aren’t used much.
EOTM pulls people from an already mostly deserted WvW to make it even more deserted. EOTM in itself offers no incentive to do anything for your server. Why are there towers and keeps in EOTM? Why the need to break down gates? Why even have gates? Who cares if the enemy takes everything you own in EOTM, there is zero reward for winning and zero punishment for losing. Taking points gives Wxp, for people who don’t even go into the actual WvW maps. The whole map just seems dumb and unnecessary and did nothing but destroy WvW on a lot of servers.
Agree… and disagree…
EOTM is buggy and a crash waiting to happen –
WvW and PvE do mesh if given a chance, but with the complete hash up that ANET has made of its server balance and traffic management neither parts add up to anything much unless your on one of those few stacked servers. Now with the announcement of Spring Tournament it wont matter if your WvW, PvP or PvE because players are going to simply migrate once again to those already stacked servers.. which fall nicely into the lap of EOTM because the only queues its going to alleviate to some extent are those on the same stacked servers.. but ANET doesn’t care cos it will see another spike in gem sales as the Xfers gather pace.. and their own employees wont cry foul cos they cant get into play on one their stacked servers!
EOTM was supposed to be the answer to queues…. now the biggest issue will likely be players whinning cos they have to sit in EOTM queues for an hour or more, whilst the majority of servers sit ghostly quiet with 1 server steam rolling the other 2 again. personally I wont spending anything like the time I did in S1 this time round… lets not kid ourselves this Spring Tournament has nothing to do with bringing players into WvW its about gem sales.
ANET’s complete ignorance to the server population issues, and the very large CDI thread surrounding it tells me they don’t have the courage to merge servers and force a halt to bandwagoning so instead go hell bent to promote it more and more, but hey ho what will be will be.
Well as of about 20mins ago I cant get Decoy or Mirror Image skills to function.. I get the stealth with Decoy but no clone.. Mirror Image just fizzes momentarily and no clones.
Added to that mobs are still targeting my Mesmer when stealthed.. and for the love of all things holy fix the kitten speed booast issue with Focus 4!!
The performance of this game has gone to the dogs since EOTM patch with random crashes all over the place and skill lags everywhere not just in Mists/WvW.. so at the very least get our Mesmers ruddy well working as they are supposed!!!!
Its WvW skill lag all over again.. judging how long it took last time to all but eliminate it, I wont be holding my breath this time round… until then its #1#1#1#1#1#1#1#1#1 even if your not in or near the zerg wars
Soory OP but your post is just full of whine and fail imo.
GW2 has many flaws for sure but inventory space.. meeehhh not really.
You get the opportunity of 4 bag slots right off the bat, so either craft or buy bags the size you can afford/craft at the time until you max them out.. you can, as you already acknowledge exchange your ingame coin for gems so if your patient then you don’t need to do anything out of the ordinary and keep your credit card in ya pocket.
Additionally you have the ability to instantly deposit materials straight to the bank, you can earn or trade up for bank access, trader clickies so again ANET has provided everything there for ya, so where exactly is your issue.
Show me a F2P game that doesn’t provide a cap on your inventory space.. its a business not a game to ANET so of course there is going to be a trade off somewhere but no one forces you to do anything you don’t want to. Count yourself lucky you have a lot of the things included that you do, many others instantly cap your inventory, your content access, and even wealth accumulation… some players just enjoy to whine about nowt sometimes.
Pointless thread = POINTLESS!
What number would satisfy your curiosity.. 1, 11, 111, 1111, 11111…….
or maybe… just perform the pull something out of a hat magic trick to keep yourself suitably entertained.
I think everyone is simply reading way too much into this whole Scarlet/LA thing.. personally I am pretty confident all is going to happen is Scarlett is going to blow out a new Moa Racing course for us all to enjoy and guess who will be selling the race tickets…..
EDIT – Actually scrub that .. it might just be Wurm racing instead
I remember when it took us 8 months to ALL the servers worldwide, to finally beat once a big raid final boss in a different MMO. Every guild was trying week after week, improving slowly until they finally killed it 8 months after it’s release date.
That was something hard, but yet it was done. Wurm has been killed in the first week… that’s something so easy that i don’t even need more words.
I agree.. hard is most definitely good… but I don’t think the Wurm is fundementaly being failed so much because of lack of understanding of what to do now its been out a whiles.. it more down to numbers required, scaling having zero effect and of course it not bugging.
I never said that leechers contributed to those kills, I’ve said "those ‘leecher guests’ " did. Bloodstealer was very specific on including all people from other servers in his use of the term “leecher”, hence my use of the quotation marks.
This is a problem with semantics. He’s not calling all guests leeches, but rather blaming their failure on guests who leech.
And if you think one or two people can’t make a difference, you clearly haven’t had a Guardian spamming symbols on your raid when you’re trying to Might stack, or blast Water. The issue is also not “a few people”; it’s impossible to get more than 45 per stack on Blackgate main for instance because there’s at least 20 people perpetually AFK to retain their spots. Then there’s the Achievement hunters who will only do what benefits them. (Running kegs, going to the first Wurm that dies, etc.) Finally, you can have actual trolls who get a kick out of the ability to be malicious with no consequences.
Edit: I do want to add though that redesigning some Achievements would make the Jungle Wurm a much more pleasant experience for all. For instance, the number of explosive barrels should be reduced to something small, like 2-5. The Decapitator and Wurmslayer achievements should give players credit for the efforts of their allies.
Excuse me but if your gunna use someone else’s quote in order to reply to them.. I would suggest not changing it and adding other names into the pot.. never in this thread have I talked about leechers across servers etc.. that cookie most definitely belongs to Mr. awesomesauce Phoenixlin… no worries I will ask the mods to do their jobs on Monday morning!
I don’t even try to explain why OP and you and your kind of players should stop whining and learn to move on. Complete waste of time.
But anyways, if you don’t like it don’t do it. There are 902734929482 things you can do in game, and you can easily ignore one world boss among them. Life is too short for whining about one difficult world boss.
And, I do agree Wurm has the worst rewards in this game (effort/time wasted vs. reward ratio) and because of bad rewards people won’t return to Wurm, after they get their all achievements. None of the exclusive stuff are nice, probably the worst designed armor pieces and it is not even a full armor set, just 3 part of it. You may say only mini wurm is nice and it is nice because you can sell it for 2k gold.
I should also say that I almost stopped doing Wurm after 1 week. I still need body achievements (my last one) but my problem is mostly leecher guests in Desolation.
Leecher guests = Instead of organizing or participating an organized group in their server, players that guest to another high populated server to use its organization for themselves.
And there you go again.. failing to read and comprehend what’s being said.
No where did I say I want easy mode, nowhere did I whine cos its a tough nut to crack.. I simply implied its good idea poorly thought through by ANET because the only way it can be done is by a total mapfest and luck.
In fact the only person whinning here is you so as I said before L2READ before engaging mouth.
As for Desolation and leechers.. than in itself is supporting what the OP is saying.. most servers cant raise the numbers required on a whole map to even begin to try and coordinate a completion, event scaling doesn’t work so the best they can hope for is a one head victory, bugs allowing.. or go guest on Desolation and be a leecher just to annoy you……so anything else you want to misinterpret and talk smack on???
Whining/Crying about “hard content” makes no sense at all too.
To make things clear, you do no have to do hard content. Story-wise, you will miss nothing. Achievement wise, if you are not a achievement-x (let say x = lover), nobody cares your situation.
Think you need to re-read what the OP is getting at.. its hard because of the numbers required across a map to be coordinated.. and as completions of the Wurm are few and far between suggests the OP and many others have a point (and I mean all 3 heads not just Crimson).
As players get fed up so numbers have dwindled a lot but the weaksauce vent scaling and the buggyness of the event make it a complete fail imo.. hard content is great.. this isn’t hard by design its hard because its so poorly thought out and nothing but a major map zerg can get it done.. and a lot of the time only because lady luck is shinning – so you carry on sitting in the middle of your 125man ballfest shouting your awesomesauce, we bow to your godlike skills.. pfft L2READ
I agree with you. I’m disappointed that the achievement is tied to winning the event rather than just focusing on that particular champion fight then and there. It also doesn’t help that everytime you fail, you will have to wait for the next respawn.
So at a minimum (without jumping lanes), you need to dedicate 10 hours to marinette to get all 5 platform achievements. And that doesnt include the fact that you may get hit, or your map may fail, or even that you don’t get the right champion. So you’re more likely going to have to dedicate +50 hours to it.
And all this for temporary content? Not going to happen Anet.
From a business perspective.. (unfortunately many of us forget that’s what GW2 is at the end of the day) the longer ANET can keep players in game, the likelihood is more money will be spent in game as well, so from that point of view having players now have to put in 5 times the amount of time compared to the old log in zergfest content for 20mins then win is a win-win for ANET.
However on the flipside to this players begin to be reluctant to come back and redo the event once its achieved so over the course of the event time, do players actually spend more time/money in game.. I am not convinced personally so this might be cutting their own throats as players tire of the high fail rates and non activity.
If players are now being forced to guest or transfer to a few higher pop servers in order to do content.. then to me that smells of “too many servers for an ailing population”
I am the first to say "oh god not another, the game is dieing threads and I am not saying it is, but I am saying players are tiring of limited time content and mechanics that are non reflective of personal skill/achievement as Marionette clearly ignores.
I have done Marionette 14 times now and still got no further than 4th boss.. but somewhere in the chain (pardon the pun) something fails and all my time and hardwork are thrown out the window, as something I might have done wrong has caused someone else to feel the same anger from the achievement gods.. its wrong and players simply don’t want to come back all that often once they have done it.. as for the WURM well that’s something else entirely.
I prefer my achievements to not be dependent on the performance of others.
Except in the bedroom.
Hehehe spoken for truth
So..in order to get what should be simple achievements….
Why on earth are you starting with the assumption that achievements should be simple?
I’m happy to have something that’s more personally challenging than “Stand in a zerg while the event gets completed by those all around you then repeat 4 more times.”
Though I do agree with your later comments about getting it done yourself, but failing to get the achievement because other people don’t hold up their end.
Except its exactly that – - a zergball content.. no wait its 5 zergballs content and as for personally challenging.. where.. you get your bit done and still its a fail due to aspects beyond your own skill and aptitude… and then of course the Wurm.. personally challenging content indeed…
I am glad you edited to add the agreement that contradicts your big personal statement though, nice touch
EDIT – On my personal note I actually think the content is actually not too bad, the concept is pretty good just the reward and achievements simply make it a choker, but fun all the same imo, which may not appease the achievement hunters and the lootz monkeys much though

aaaand he’s gone.
Not quite!
I’m still getting acclimated to the WvW team, and most recently I’ve been working with the balance team on the livestream we’ll be running tomorrow. (Which you’ll of course be watching, right?)
There is a WvW balance team?.. guessing they all play Warriors then… on a stacked server!
More Strategic???.. you really haven’t played WvW a whole lot for sure.
Strategic WvW passed into the ether a year ago.. today all that is left is Zergwars and PvD. there is nothing more than someone shouting “X” server is at “Y” tower 30+ and a blue tag answering on our way, stack and go…
Best thing to do is roll a thief and learn how it plays out and what counters work .. I used to hate being confronted by them but now.. meeeh they don’t scare me on any of my toons.
First up toughness and Vitality are your friend in WvW.. then when you see the thief vanish counter 1 – .. then dodge. If the heartseeker misses then rinse repeat if it hits your build should buy you some time and the recent revielded addition makes it a little more frustrating for the thief anyhows. Dodges, stuns, and some good ole fashion condi retaliation works a treat .. they can heal in stealth but condi’s stay.
A thief in GW2 by nature is looking for quick combat, high damage bursting and then distance/stealth… I personally get 100% more frustrated fighting PU Mesmers these days.. oooh but watch out for those condi thieves they can hurt in different ways
Simple fact of the matter is you are not forced to do anything, you don’t have to do map completion if you don’t want to enter into WvW maps.. if you do then you still don’t have to do anything except run to the map poi’s, challenges, vistas etc just like normal, but if a tower is not accessible due to enemies owning it then its a simple waiting game until the reset and map rotation likely occurs for you and you now find new objectives are accessible.. rinse repeat until the only thing left is SM.. that is the only thing that might take some minor effort in obtaining unless your server is dominant in the matchups…
So bottom line is map completion might require some minor delays whilst waiting for map rotations… ANET should not change it at all as it stands a chance of pulling in players who might actually get to like it, especially with many servers seeing WvW population issues nowadays… oops best not mention that topic as its been swept under the CDI cosy carpet
Agree with everything that’s been said.. constant nerfing of Orr, the reward to risk mechanic (I love a porous bones as much as the next guy but it gets pretty tiring seeing them drop sooo frequently off things like vet giants etc.) Add to that the subsequent installation of the easymode champ trains through Queensdale/Frostgorge (I thought increasing XP for farming carrots as you increase in level was silly but providing easy mode lvl80 rare/exo’s in albeit a starter map!! )… ANET simply lack any ideas on how to sustain their Openworld vision like class balances, their map/loot system is equally as poorly balanced.
Ooh and having 99% of WP’s contested permanently in Orr makes me not wanna go back anymore.. I don’t wanna keep running from one end of the map to the other to get back to an event I know will be impossible to solo anyway..
@Latinkuro.9420 -
Shared loot is nothing new.. shared banks, guild banks etc all provide shared loot access.. GW2 is nothing revolutionary there I’m afraid its just collated in different mechanics to how others do it, that’s just to make it look different and avoid the “its a copy”… I do like the ability to deposit collectables straight to shared bank though.. +1 ANET
GW2 has only just introduced an LFG system x-server that’s in no way comparable to other systems that have been around as long as the arc in my opinion.
Kill stealing – I will give you that if you mean stealing as in thief steels/ sigil procs. otherwise not sure what it is your getting at.
Dodge – sorry but DDO has had dodge and block mechanics in it right from original beta must be 9 yrs now, I believe Tera has it and so do others I would hazard a guess…. nothing new at all in GW2
Trinity isn’t non existent in GW2 only the way you visualise it being in your head .. only last night there was a muster in WvW to see how many guardian heals etc were available before setting off.. even dedicated heal trinity has its own offense/defence in other games and has done for years, it just comes down to playstyle.. what GW2 does is what other MMO’s started doing a long time back.. making heal classes more effective in in different environments/situation.. look at swtor healing capabilities on all classes or DDO clerics/favour souls even Mages can do it using UMD.. trinity was diversely altered long before GW2 got in on the act.
Grind – Every MMO has a grind attached and GW2 is no different – Leveling is a grind to some, gathering resources, loot etc is a grind to others.. it all comes down to playstyle and preference. Tell me gathering all those silk scraps isn’t a grind for your ascended armours or salvaging all those blues, greens or ectos isn’t a grind for players to get some waste of time Magic Find %… getting your pre-cursors or crafting legendary.
GW2 has always included its own grind.. you just only choose to call things grindy based on your own likes/dislikes… what you fail to understand it seems is that without grind and MMO runs the risk of running out of content way faster than they can churn out and players grow bored and move on regardless.. timegating is there for reasons to enable the devs to keep bringing content out and also to retain players in game as long as possible.. both result in $$$ which in turn keeps the game open to us, so please quit with your grind whines… don’t like it then don’t do it, it cant be any simpler… or throw your credit card into the pot and buy it off the TP and support the game via an alternative route.
As for your smooth camera stuff.. GW2 (by the devs own admission) has a fail camera system.. jump puzzles area clear indicator of that.. so much camera collision, poor zoom capability and poor model scaling . a la Norn Guardians in jump puzzles.
UI.. simple yes but imo far to simple. When I want to take something from my inventory like a spikey fruit to throw in combat or down some food etc etc, all I got to do is stop , open inventory find it and double click it – but then I realise I cant cos.. I is dead!.. quickslots are there to be utilised but of course GW2 was planned for console junkies rather than PC’ers I guess.
GW2 is visually good I will give them that, but all that comes at a price and they have been in reactive mode since beta to try and reduce the demands both server side and our side to bring the game into playable performance.. culling, particle reduction etc and the ability to have all those nice things on screen with hundreds of players at the same time, like other games, it has found it to be a problem for many. Personally I don’t suffer too much in GW2 compared to say SWTOR but many others do on a regular basis.
Don’t get me wrong I think GW2 has some impressive points, had some good idea and still has potential, but it isn’t amy better than other games out there already, at least not in my opinion – we all have our opinions on what’s right wrong, liked not liked ya see.
As it says .. who’s been screwing with the Guild coding again back at base again?
No guild bank, no guild member, eerm NO GUILD!.. guess we’re due a patch soon cos this happens everytime there’s one incoming now – every time!
@Sigmar… Agree its been fun for a change and all servers have brought something to the party most days.
As for your estimation of our solo runners.. heck we all have new players, players running in PvE traited builds and geared for another kinda game, but out of probably 15+ solo fights this matchup the only players I have been smacked by (and smacked hard I admit) are by a few VVV players from Arbor…. that’s not to say FoW roamers were weaksauce or bad players just some you win some you loose, though FoW solo roamers have been harder to find, maybe as you seem to lack numbers and coverage like us.
But hey you obviously felt the need to play the " I is da man" card here.. a few wins 1v1 with players who may or may not be all be great yet is hardly something to use as a server critique.
Ahhh then I guess it was them.. and a decent crew they are.. transfers to UW are always welcomed with cheese & Biscuits ooh and cookies….. unfortunately due to the stresses of Season 1 our beer supplies have diminished even quicker than our Keep supplies so will take a whiles for stocks to replenish again.
@Vasmir… New Year and new beginnings an all… Natsos likely wasn’t meaning anything by it and most likely not at FoW specifically, at least I hope not so lets call it evens
To be honest UW has been pretty much depleted and faceplanted for months so this matchup I think has brought some renewed passion due to the not so wider difference in numbers. Arb are the larger numbered server for sure but actually this week I have seen many of their pushes against UW groups splinter and fall apart just like we have as you rightly pointed out.. I was in that SM fight and I am not ashamed to say my backside was either gunna be stomped by FoW or flattened from the fall from the walls.. I chose to chance the fall
Not being around the WvW scene or the game for that matter all that much since S1 finished I have to say this matchup has certainly been fun… I like to roam / small grp as I dislike the zerg mentality but in UW’s defence any kind of victory in the field at the moment is big moral boost for us.. tonight was a prime example of that though I think both FoW and Arb were elsewhere much of the time but like other servers do to us, we took advantage of it and gave it all we could and the result was inspiring for us
But I agree with you.. UW needs time in lower tier to learn to win again, rebuild on the back of winning and give our new comms, new guilds and new players a chance to bed in and support the more established and experienced players.. of what I have seen this week we have the potential to do that for sure.
Out of the 3 servers I think tactically FoW are superior but like UW you lack numbers at times, whereas Arb seem to be able to muster numbers on all maps – but one guild that has stood out for me this week is “VVV” (think that was the name, from FoW.. .. a good organised group of players and 1v1 they certainly bled me a few times
So we all have decent players, decent skills and hopefully having fun
EDIT.. btw UW and blob don’t really go together .. although tonight our 30-40 man push across EB (SM was good fun again and so was Arb/FoW keep fights) seemed to have the bit between its teeth and we were determined not to give up.. big mention to Ruddy and Leila for some excellent commanding/coordination… not often we control a whole EB anymore
(edited by Bloodstealer.5978)
I don’t want to offend the enemy servers, but the skill level on UW looks much higher for me.
7 weeks in the silver league with getting our butt kicked, teached us a lot.
I haven’t lost a 1v1 or 1v2 fight since we stopped playing with ROS & FR. At least when it comes to roaming, looks like you guys could use some time in the higher tiers, it is totally diffrent up there. And when it comes to zerging, equal numbers of UW vs any of 20- server looks like the chances are for UW to win.
I’ve not spent much time at all in WvW these past weeks since S1 completed but with the kids busy on their XBox1 and PS4’s I decided to spend a day inside the matchup and to be honest I was pleasantly surprised at how much fun it was.
Cant remember the last time UW had decent, able and willing commanders pulling a rag tag band of fugitves together and make inroads across maps.. yes all our own BL and 3/4 of EB was a wash of blue with FoW and AR maps also seing patches of the blue stuff as well. We even managed to grab ourselves a WP and hold it for half a day….. until that coverage began to dwindle once more.
Needless to say we had a good day, good commanding, some decent fights with some old school style tactics in the filed which made a pleasant change to the zerg up and faceplant against doors.. well done all, I agree with Nat UW skills are picking up once more I think, perhaps this drop down the tiers will be a blessing as new guilds and comms take the reins and roll the server onwards again.
However Nat, as for your our opponents I disagree a wee bit… I had a good dozen really decent fights 1v1 yesterday against FoW especially, but both Arb and FoW have significantly less overwhelming numbers to that which we faced all through S1 and they both should be commended for playing this matchup well. Arb engage tactically and use the tools given to them, though that said the only golems I saw for once were our own, which made for a much more entertaining field day for all. FoW are a good matchup for us for sure, decent action when they to have numbers and coverage, which is the main reason I think UW has been able to up the anty a bit this week.
Like RF said in his post.. as long as we are enjoying the matchup then that’s about all we can ask for right now and all 3 servers need a hand clap for making it so.
BTW all – -HAPPY NEW YARRR’S
Of course they are a competition. Every single game is a competitor. But they are not a DIRECT competitor, due to the difference in payment model.
People tend to stay with one of the P2P MMOs at a time, due to not having money enough to pay for more than one.
With a B2P however you don’t need to pay a single $ after you bought it, and thus you can play a P2P on top of that, without having to worry about it.
Really… You of course know about everyone’s spending habits and preferences of course.
Most MMO’s nowadays have integrated a F2P business model, even the older more established MMO’s that have been around before the Guild Wars B2P idea came about.
I personally prefer subbing for my MMO fixes even though I have nothing against F2P just that’s how I roll and to that end I sub for 3 games currently. Bottom line is if I think it offers decent value then I don’t mind paying for it… in fact I find GW2 to be pretty poor value when considering the F2P options that I could take with the MMO’s I currently sub to.
Add to that most F2P options offer the opportunity to earn as you play so if your prepared to put the time and effort in and have some degree of patience then you don’t necessarily have to pay out anything other than the off-shelf cost (and even that isn’t always required as many offer free downloads)
Except any decent game design will have placed an enormous amount of time and effort into placing the carrots in front of players and play on their lack of patience and desire to have better stats, better shinnies, better appearances and more content, no matter what business model they promote and ANET do that better than most imo – but being a business I see nothing wrong with it… so every MMO is in fact a direct competitor to GW2 whether you pay up front or pay through a cash shop in game – I would actually hazard a guess though (yes a guess as unlike your ability to know what others do, want, have etc) that the vast majority of players currently playing GW2 or who have played it at some point since launch, have spent at least the same amount if not more again on top of the original box sale cost. B2P sounds great but at some point very soon after launch the game has to make money to progress and continue to be supported so it in turn becomes a direct competitor to all those other MMO’s out there.
Interesting post RF.. though the only one I have seen complaining across the discussion/matchup forums about server balance, numbers etc is …. well youactually
We all know the situation, we all know we are easy prey 90% of the time but for me I have never indulged in the zergwars way of life as I run with small guild / group or solo roaming for fun fights.. see the thing is fun is open to everyone’s interpretation – some like hiding in a pack of 40+, others prefer small to solo and yeah some like to look at PPT for their challenges, I only used PPT as a way to get a point across in answer to players complaining about other servers usage of siege etc.
Personally I have never cared for PPT as I believe its was one of the main reasons that karma trains and zergwars began to appear in WvW in the first place… ala pre reset Friday choo choo’s.
As for skill levels.. I never said we lacked skills just we lack players willing to step outside of the zergtrain comfort zone.. look at how well other servers run their maps.. its not just zone in hit garrison then map flip, they work us down bit by bit, but yes for a few hours a week when we do actually have numbers we can do much better but mainly focusing all on a single target en mass .. rendering Kesoria’s notion that other servers are at fault cos of the same tactic pretty much mute
Shoutout to Arbor Stone, run away from each and every fight (unless they pulled their massive blob from all other maps). Hide into towers each and every time we see them, and building kittening superior ac’s IN EACH fight we’re in. GG much skill such wowe.
Not sure if serious…..
Every server tries its own zerg and blob tactics.. even Underworld in the rare few hours we have enough numbers so not sure why your trying to call out Arbor for it.
As for sieges.. well if only UW did more of it in an attempt to defend what we have, at least to slow them down and up our own tick rate that little bit – not that PPT is in anyway useful anymore.
As a commander its sound tactic to consider field chokes and draw outs a lot of the time, shame though we have forgotten the old tactics so quickly that helped to make UW a decent WvW server – all we have left is empty maps and a lacklustre attempt at zergwars even though we all know our numbers wont hold out that long outside prime or even during it..
Season 1 highlight how well other servers communicate even in PUG’s and they showed us that sending out small roaming groups to continually flip camps and starve supplies can have a long lasting effect on our ability to upgrade/siege/repair and defend anything. We are continually being out manoeuvred as we try to react, but instead of learning from othr servers we simply call it unfair use of sieges or accuse others of out zerging us – bottom line is tactically we don’t have what it takes anymore and we don’t have numbers or coverage to compete at zergwars.
Players that do tag up and try something outside of zerg grouping are crucified and lambasted in map chat leading them to log and not bother anyway.. cos unless their is a Karma choo choo running players prefer not to bother trying something different.
