Running solo for me never worked.. or 2 man.. same issue time after time.. speak to all of them.. nothing.. not even the icon in the buff bar since todays patch..
I’ve given up on it tbh and it sounds like the new meta are equally as bugged.. so expect patch, then another to patch the bugs the patch made, then a plethora of more bug patches… same thing every patch. In fact I am waiting for the return of the inventory resize bug or the no guild info bug that appears every update at some point during the endless patching.

Well I cant even get the achievement icon on my buff bar anymore.. and still no achievement no matter how many times I actually completed it after that the dreaded patch last time, or since the patch today.. its borked still imo.

You know what, Anet? I’ve changed my mind. I agree with the OP. It’s not fair to force players to find every last coin for the achievement. They should only have to find 30/34. While we’re at it, I think it takes too long to find all the PoIs for the map completion achievement. No fun, not fair. Everyone just looks at the map instead of looking for them. We should only have to find 688/723. Also, level 80 is too hard to reach. Could you lower the level cap to 77? This will prevent people from reading up on the best ways to level a character, which is bad. In addition, it’s unfair to make players collect 5000 AP for the massive achievement chests and titles. After 4423 points it gets boring and un-fun. You need to lower the threshold. Don’t you realize you’re making people look up achievement guides and alienating casual players? By the way, Legendaries take far too long to get. It’s not fun or fair. I’m basically being forced to look up the recipes instead of experimenting. You should definitely add them to a merchant so we don’t look up information on their creation.

It would figure that the hardcore folks (or the very lucky) could prefer the current system. But I believe A-net can better understand my issue from their own perspective.

By insisting on 30 out of 30 (in this case), they’re just pushing a lot of folks to check guides and in doing so, deny them of the sense of self-accomplishment.

Please remember that guides do exist and there isn’t any way to distinguish between those who found it themselves or those who referred to guides. GW2 has been catering to casual players and I think not insisting on 30/30 would go a long way to helping folks enjoy the game and in so doing, contribute to the longevity of GW2.

Why is it luck to of found the coins without a guide.. luck has nothing to do with it, its up to the individual to put the effort in, in order to find them.. add excess coins and the achievement becomes nothing more than a 5min easy win.
Forgive me if I am wrong but I could of sworn there was no time limit on finding all 30 coins so take a break and do something else if it’s frustrating you.. failing that players can choose to take a guided tour. You think that by adding in extra coins to dumb down the achievement will stop players going to places like Dulfy for a guide.. cos I will bet my kids dinner money it will make no difference at all.

I get it, you can’t find the last coin and so you come here to try and put out a smokescreen to hise your whine and frustration.

ANET… no need to water the exploration side of your achievements down in my opinion it works just fine as it is…signed "Lucky Achiever!

TBH the green/purple icons make no difference.. I have done it all ways and all orders and still nothing.. and to be honest if you cant get achievements by using the chapter icons then there is little point in having them imo… simple fact is whatever ANET did to the achievement on Friday has messed it up royally… if it was working as intended they would on be right on the thread to say so.. instead of the usual silence.

Yeah been happening to me a lot as well… I too am an Asura – mayee they have a taste for intelligence and the waypoints allow dem prickly sticks to selectively suck the intelligence out of Tyria.

On a more serious note.. all ya got to do is re-click the WP and you will be released from your slow death.

There a far worse bugs in the game right now that need immediate attention, though we all know that’s not gunna happen (looking at you Mesmer devs)

It seems the bug occurs as soon as the instance starter triggers the lab portion.
The NPCs that you rescue die as soon as the lab is triggered. No idea why it happens.
My guildmates and I have been sweeping the map before going to the lab just to make sure no one has been missed.

The NPC’s are active as soon as you save Lindsay in the cave.. just run out don’t engage any mobs and speak the soldiers.. then go to the Lab and complete the event.. sounds simple and is, except the achievement is most definitely borked and has nothing to do with any NPC’s dieing as they are all still very much alive at this stage not even in downed state.
Note – For those running it in group, it does scale the amount of NPC’s so it takes longer to complete that part anyway.. cos it is still only the instance owner that can order them to retreat.. makes total sense right!

ANET needs to get this fixed or just give everyone the meta/reward then delete it from the achievement lists so no one looses out.

that has been patched Pandaman.. latest patch disabled the ability to complete the event then go back…. but tbh I also followed the Dulfy guide and never attacked anything, got all 7 to retreat and still nothing.. otherway is to rescue Lindsay and then run round speaking to them and not attack anything.. still nothing…. some players just seem to be lucky and get it.. map chat right now is talking about it as quite a few players have run it since the latest patch and never got a sausage… its borked for sure imo and ANET need to stop wasting players time, if they aren’t properly QA’ing these metas don’t bother putting them in I say.

Well for me its bugged… I have run it at least 5 or 6 times, each time rescuing Lindsay, then speaking to all 7 of the Vigil soldiers and getting them to retreat. Each time the buff icon is active detailing the achievement is .. achievable, but every time nothing happens then go finish the story event.. still nowt… done this solo and in alternating group instances… its borked and I wont be wasting anymore time running it till it gets sorted.

Add to that the story often bugs out after clearing Concordia as it wont progress onto to rescuing Lindsay.. imo its a mess.

You can blame Atlantean Army for making Underworld a dead server.

Wow.. you must be new.

One guild doesn’t kill a server its community does that all by itself.

UW used to be a darn fine WvW and PvE server butWizard is correct.. UW was in serious decline even going back a year+ ago and much of it due to infighting amongst aliiances and “guild wars”…. as soon as a host of major WvW guilds left early on the fires of doom began to ignite, fuelled further by ANETS timely addition of Season 1 and free/cheap transfers to other server.. it was inevitable that a further chunk of UW guilds would migrate for – 1 better fights, 2 better population balance, 3 better community and 4 rewards/loot of course.
Me and my small guild have been in game since BWE1 and stayed loyal to the server (or maybe we were just too cheap and lazy) until about 6months ago (months prior to the WvW Tournament and at a cost not free). Unfortunately it wasn’t just WvW now suffering but all aspects of the game across the server – PvE activity began to diminish with many events simply left empty.. we could forget completing LS events, TEQ or 3HW as a community at that point unless we guested to other servers, which goes against the principle of having servers in the first place imo.

So Veeber if your going to place accusations and blame on the situation.. maybe you need to point fingers a little more to the heart of the game rather than an individual guild / guild leader… in fact you might wanna show some gratitude to Wizard for at least attempting to pull things together for UW and trying to make a difference.

Good luck though to those still thrashing the keys on UW.. … RESPECTS!

A tornado has sucked up chickens. How do we deal with this? HIT IT WITH OUR SWORDS!

So… why are we not cleaving chickens in two? Why are we not being sucked in also? Why does everything in this game boil down to HIT IT WITH YOUR SWORD!?

Wouldn’t it have been better to make it an event that required some skill, such as running and catching the chickens as they are thrown from the vortex within a time limit? Every now and then it would spit out other debris such as eggs that temporarily blinded you, or pieces of chicken coop that caused bleeding?

Why not actually add some depth and reason by having different classes deal with it in a different way? By this I am not talking about just this event but all events. Give us reason to use different classes, to perform a task in a way unique to our actual choices when we made our character, rather than boil everything down into one tactic.

But no. As always… HIT IT WITH YOUR SWORD!!!

Basically, all classes in this game are treated merely as warriors, just with different ways of warring!

But.. but what you say must be a lie cos it goes against all that ANET said GW2 was inherently opposed to in other MMO’s.. how dare you say that this is nothing more than a “Swing a sword, swing it again, kill 1, kill 10 more” content inclusions… such baseless accusation

Yeah this looks either bugged or badly designed. The problem is that after you talk to the caravan, these mobs will spawn all over the map (I believe we’re talking about 12 mobs). Where at the first try they went into a “ressurectable” state and allowed me to get them on their feet and tell them to retreat, now they just die when their health reaches zero – resulting in dead mobs.
Now this would be doable, with a group, but the way it is right now it just reminds me of Dropping Like Flies 2.0. Only with the NPCs spread out waaay further.

When the NPCs die they should just go down in the regular NPC-ready-to-be-picked-up state; not dead. That fixes this entire issue and turns it into something doable, other than the group-requiring efforts it would take now (and doing this at 6 in the morning, I can forget about that group.)

With no chance of failure (ie always being able to res them as you want) provides no real challenge though does it…. sure better instructions would help, but not all content is supposed to be soloable and requires groups to form, I mean hasn’t that been the flavour of things since the zerg debacle of season1 finally started to be corrected.

Come to think of it your toon name now becomes familiar.. you were in game yesterday complaining the sand giant wasn’t doable in the time cos of the knockbacks and fears and you can’t do enough DPS because of it, which was laughable at the very least … hmm I see a pattern emerging.

Not everyone enjoys playing the mindless Queensdale #11111 game, actually having to think tactics, gearing, traits and skills before hand makes the challenge that much more fun sometimes.. yes stability is your friend sometimes and what better way to keep it up than to get in an organised group who can share those buffs out so you don’t have to loose your DPS when you go on timers.

From the looks of it the map will stay but the mechanic to obtain the keys for the chests may change. However, the map will be expanded every 2 weeks so there will be more events later to run making it a bit easier to hit higher tier reward shop levels.

Quite possibly.. but with more expansion also comes more things that require the same currencies.. therefore still requiring more grind. Whether its permanent or short term it still a grind to acquire more collectables/currencies.. but its understandable for any MMO to do the same in order to keep players coming back online.. otherwise their cashcow will slump and with that new content will become stifled. Of course its a double edged sword cos players loose interest quickly with this kind of content.. yes its permanent but I would hazard a guess and say its got a very short shelf life of interest.. hence why the LS content turnaround is still pretty quick to support the idea of keeping players engaged and logging in.

To be honest though if they suddenly said were going back to traditional 6-12month content patching I am sure the player base would throw out the same plethora of cries and whines so I guess its something ANET will need to consider longer term rather than simply re-skinning their content and using the same grind mechanics behind it…. hmmm what was that they said prior to launch.. " in GW2 we don’t want the swing a sword once, swing it again, kill 1 of these, kill 10 more…. cos players loose interest in it quickly" …. guess things change as soon as the mad rush for box sales is over :-)

Nah I disagree, its gotten worse this evening again, I’ve tried various instances and its silly season on the jump aspects and lightning pulls, which are bad at the best of times.
Even got the issues popping up in story tonight…
The leap of faith dive point can be hard enuff to get to without this happening, now its just silly season there with dead appearing all over the place cos of the delays in the aspects triggering or jumps taking off.. but tbh its about par for the course these days.

Seems your right.. cant get achievs by replaying on another ALT.. seems every alt has to run the story.

The only Achiev I just don’t seem to be able to get is the Explosive Avoidance gone thro each part of fighting Aerin without getting hit by a bomb or a grenade at least 5 times now and still cant get it to pop the achievement.. I am guessing this one is definitely bugged.

As it says.. been redoing Story today.. already done the “Leave no one behind”, “A shocking development”, “No shocks here” and “No rock left unturned”.

Not a single achievement has been granted and they have definitely been completed, !!!

So how many times we gotta keep replaying this stuff in order for the achievements to actually activate.. infinite!!

Heck I just had a thought as I wrote this.. I was doing this on my Mesmer.. please not another screw up with Mesmers ANET.. bugged skills and bugged achieves.. that would be the end for me, the class is in a sad enough state as it is already!

I don’t see where an argument is popping up here. Why can’t we all just agree that putting a little more information or warning on “unique” ascended trinkets is a good idea?

Instead we have people coming on this thread just to say “you should have known better”. How very constructive.

Mostly because if people fail to read the section in the item description regarding RESTRICTIONS when it simply says “unique,” they are just as likely to fail to read an expanded information line.

You have to know that is BS.

I was a victim of this myself. I saw “unique” but was totally unaware that a character could only equip one, though could buy two. Just because you and others understood it, doesn’t mean everyone does – as this thread shows.

Again having ArenaNet put a more clear warning on these items does not negatively effect you or others. Its not taking anything away from the game. Its just adding clarification to an item. You and others are just finding enjoyment from kittening at people on this thread…. for what?

Unique.. i.e. – “One of a Kind”.. .. if your were wearing two identical unique items then how can they possibly be one of a kind?? … the “Unique” Tag is representative to you not the item across the entire game, otherwise no one else could ever buy, loot, craft or achieve anything you have, which would mean ANET would need to have and endless supply of item type graphic, animation, text, stats etc.. which just isn’t feasible.. therefore Unique is absolutely correct for its use.. i.e. “YOUR” use, however, I do accept ANET need to improve their tag visibility in these areas.

Your friend probably visited sites he shouldn’t have (gold sellers), and/or downloaded things he shouldn’t have (hacks/bots).

In 16 years I’ve never had a single account for anything on the internet hacked, and I don’t even care for account security.

“Hacking accounts” for videogames does not exist.
Giving your secure information away does exist.

A PIN code is a waste of development time, and it won’t solve stupidity.

How incredibly sanctimonious … You of course have total knowledge of this persons browsing and downloading habits etc to make such accusations.. either that or you are completely naïve about the whole issues at hand.
You of course also know that this person was downloading things that he shouldn’t have because that’s the only way “hacks and bots” can bypass one’s protections.. .. please share with us what we should or shouldn’t be downloading.. hmmm I’ll hazard a guess you don’t even know the first thing about what you are talking about and are just copycatting comments from other “expert posters” who make the same assumptions.

I have long complex passwords for any account I hold and all are unique without any kind of pattern to them. I had a unique email that was used for GW2 and nothing more and was none of the widely known providers. My email provider assured me that they had not been hacked and have their own protection inbuilt as an added security to my account.
I utilise as much protection that is available to the average everyday person including 3 sets of virus/malware protection all regularly updated and scanned twice daily as well as firewalls and router protections… I have never visited a goldseller (in fact I don’t think I have ever had more than 200gold ingame and have played since BWE1) and don’t frequent “dodgy site”s or download things I shouldn’t and certainly don’t give out my personal info to anyone.. yet somehow my GW2 account got hacked a few months back.. and like you I had never been hacked in 20yrs of using online material… so please share your oooh so wise wisdom .. I am all eyes and ears.

I agree with the OP thatANET needs to implement better Guild Bank / Personal Bank security feature because it only takes one person to be hacked and a whole guild can suffer the consequences… and please don’t play the " guild leaders need to manage better cos if that person gets hacked it makes no difference how they manage guild bank privileges etc.

Your natural assumption is to call people out for visiting dodgy sites, download seedy stuff etc.. so I will ask a simpler question.. what does a dodgy site or a seedy download look like, so that we can steer clear of such things across the interweeebs????

Not everyone visits such sites, or downloads such stuff or lacks the few brain cells reqd to consider IT / Data security.. some of us do everything we can with what is available to us as well as using common sense to not click on email links that seem to good to be true.. only to be then accused by the likes of you for “obviously” doing something untoward with our viewing/downloading habits.
Actually lets take it one step further shall we.. lets say person X visits Porn site Y.. .. by your definition all such sites and content are the basis for bad things to happen… I don’t go to those kind of sites, but I am pretty sure those companies might have something to say in counter to your baseless theories that their sites are so obviously dodgy.
So what makes such sites the dodgy deal.. and not say… hmmm Guildwars2.com or WoW or Honda, Sony.com, Ebay, Pentagon etc etc
Any site can be classed as dodgy – if cyberskittens want to get hold of as many details as possible they will attack any given site to get such information out of us..

EDIT – Problem solved, I just dug a big hole in the garden, filled it with sand then made another hole next to it.. just waiting for it to rain some more to fill the second hole up and create the perfect beach in my own back garden – they will never notice!

Well I guess this is their way around developing expansions and hiding the criticism of temporary content…

Holy Mudder… is the OP still trying to talk everyone round to stop people undercutting his sales of copper ore.. gees.

OP you keep saying your solution will give players a choice.. I already have a choice.. I either buy at the price I find acceptable or I go farm some, and sell it on the TP for whatever price I want to.. if I decide to sell it for the same price as yours then that’s my choice, if however I want to put my item at the top of the pecking order then that’s my choice to.. it doesn’t matter what price I choose to beat yours by, whether it be 1c or 1gold less – that sir is market choice… you just have to put some big boy pants on and learn to deal with it.
Price undercutting is good for a healthy economy, it helps to keep demand for product healthy, it helps sellers sell products faster and potentially in repeat volumes, it help buyers save coin and it offers choice.

Bottom line is we all like to make sales and we all like to make money.. its up to the individual how they go about it.. undercutting by “X” amount or even risk buying everything up and selling for higher value… its a choice and no matter how much you whine about it , undercutting is a positive market element imo.

Already checked that and my Mailbox has nothing in it.. I never keep any mail after i’ve read it…

If that had been the issue though, the first set of keys purchased would not of come through the mail either, but they did without issue, the second set purchased 5 mins later did not come through.

Purchased 2 sets of 5 BL Keys (5/450gems) .. purchased first set and used them, then purchased a second set using the recent history on the right hand side of the Trading Post window.. it took the 450 gems from my account but never received a mail with the keys attached.. please refund my gems and fix your Trading Post!

Interesting to read about this issue… when checking the TP for the extremely elusive Favour of the Bazaar on many occasions this past week or so, I noticed that the prices being shown were often nothing like the actual prices they were selling for…
Favour of Bazar often showed 1+ gold but when clicking in to buy it , it had changed to like 15gold and the less elusive favour of the Pavilion was showing at like 20silver, but was actually more like 2gold.. .. these are just 2 items I have checked recently, so no telling what else is being listed as one thing but no where near what it’s actually listed for – – be careful out there!

Also to add.. why sooo many “Service Unavailable” HTTP 503 errors since the patch (not just with TP but with these forums as well??

Well the champ the OP is talking about can be a PITA if your build is a shambles and you take no notice of the boss mechanics in the first place.
Sure his healing in his poison/invis cloud is silly but that’s why you have interrupts and DoT’s as well as straight up damage attacks.
Simple thing is avoid his poison and use your interrupts when he does his little crouch and pause… Also you may notice those little blackwater supplies lying around.. maybe try using them if your out of interrupts.

Vets/Elites should not be taking 15-30 mins on any build, perhaps forget champs and elites till you have mastered vets.. some people just aren’t gifted with certain skills and abilities in life…

Agree Drigan.. why launch another CDI .. underneath the rug is already full with the others CDI’s.

The Ready up looked totally unprepared, and almost looked like they were not even interested, repeating the same few lines around rewards, feedback, rewards, feedback, ..
It was 30minutes or so of pretty much nothing but empty words and.. well nothing really.. just one person trying to make a few light jokes the other fidgeting and looking totally not wanting to be there.. ooh but at least someone is getting cupcakes….

I think the players have already given them a barrel full of feedback, none of which seems to be sinking in… so why even bother putting another CDI out which will be filled with the same feedback, same attitudes and same issues as have been previously posted out to them and heavily quoted in countless threads since T2 started.. most of which were locked as soon as the mention of hacking, exploits, or a hint of anything matchup related.. the matchups are where the feedback comes from.. but mention it and the thread is closed, feedback and all! -

Just ask Gunnar’s Hold players how to win. WE HAVE LESS players than AM OR FSP and we have 2nd place in silver league. no skill no reward – easy.

Looking at the “Ready Up” tonight following the closure of WvW Tournament, I could of sworn GH were placed third…. I thought it was gunna be a three way tie for 2nd so they maybe threw a curve ball in to the tournament standings to break the places up ..

As for rewards.. I hear what lower tier servers are saying, and it was said last time as well, but a tournament has winners and loosers, for a whole number of reasons.. server stacking, nighcapping, server populous imbalances, poor skill/tactics etc, etc, etc… fact is someone has to win and someone has to loose. I have played both sides of that coin and tbh the rewards are pretty meeehhh anyway its about having fun in the tournament , which ever way you can otherwise why bother… ok so we get 500 tickets for winning, which means 1 mist weapon and hero weapon or pack the remaining 200 tickets away for a rainy day. The rest of the rewards are all but trash.. a few greens and some coins yippadeedoodah (though the wvw liquid was nice) . Finishing last still gets you like 25o tickets so a hero weapon is still obtainable along with the rest of the trash loot and the chance to save up for something else in the future.

The meta is rewarded in its own way, so if you completed it then you got a whole range of rewards, if you didn’t then that’s too bad, they were made easier to do this time round – last time was much harder if your on a low ebb server believe me, I have tasted those tears :-(

This is funny, because if I was given 1 gold coin for each time I seen a Gandaran pug zerg, with the commander spamming map chat for people to get on TS (because most aren’t) wiping the floor with guild groups I’d have bought myself an eternity by now.

With the numbers put out each week and the amount of decent Commanders that tag to take pug zergs across each map adding weight to the established guild groups, there is little time or desire to double team anyone. Why would Gandara need to??
FSP on the other hand have had to resort to .. well lets just say “a few” rogue tactics in order to bump their placings on occasion. Shame the week you did put a dent in Gandara (using your invisible haxsters and all) it kinda felt we were on a WvW break, I know I was pretty lethargic with my time within the matchup as were many of the normal tags. But that said you won, well done, but where were those double team tactics to save us???

Simple fact is sometimes servers focus on other servers in order to kick off the matchup, raise their PPT and put some distance between them and their perceived main rivals, when that happens other servers might think to take advantage and also steal towers from you.. what’s wrong in that.. at least you get to see who is attacking you and have the opportunity to fight back….

boss blitz dont have “tons and tons of health” unless you’re doing it wrong. In fact a party of 5 can effectively take a boss down.

I quite enjoy boss blitz btw.

This event is once again a proof that the average player is bad. A group of 5 can take any of the boss in 3 minutes . 6 good group of 10 can take all of them down in 2 minutes. Yet every server takes 1 hour to finish it unless it’s a well organized guild like TTS. (I see mesmer using Greatsword auto attack to kill turret at boom boom)

Along with that people don’t listen, it takes forever to organize. Don’t blame the event, blame the players.

I think it’s a great event but it’s not fit for game where we don’t have control over who is joining.

P.S. Actually let me clarify, I don’t think the average player is necessary bad, I think a lot of them just don’t care or are too stubborn to listen to others.

You must be in a really bad megaserver instance then if your not getting gold without being in an organised guild run instance… otherwise your just talking smack for attention.
Pug groups are completing Gold all over the event, especially since the rewards patch… it has never been a difficult event to get done quickly, it just hasn’t been worth bothering to get done at all until the loot patch made it more attractive to the masses.
It certainly doesn’t require TTS or such to set it up for you or even require a TS channel to communicate.. it just requires people to taxi others into an instance to keep it well oiled with people ready to jump in and fill any gaps that appear, doesn’t even need commander tags just a few players to talk in map chat re numbers and percentages.. or maybe you need a Dorito to follow in order to be effective in your own actions. In fact we always ask for commanders to detag as soon as their particular Boss group is adequately manned to help avoid too much overstacking .. last tag showing is where the players late joiners/afk’ers etc will then tend to migrate to.

The hardest part of this event is actually staying interested long enough in order to keep the instance primed and effective.

Too funny. I just logged into the Pavilion to maybe grab a few tokens and give this whole thing a second chance. There’s nobody there.

Anet, you never get a 2nd chance to make a 1st impression.

You must of been in a poor megaserver instance cos honestly since the recent patch today I have seen a marked increase in activity….. I wonder why???

Having grown weary of trying to beat Liadri with dem gambits for an hour I decided to jump downstairs and go give Blitz one run through…. I needed a couple of centaurs anyway so figured I needed to change the scenery for 30mins (about all I cud stomach previously with Blitz and I saw it as a poor use of my time.. .. but something was definitely different….. the instance was continually full, in fact a guildie in my party tried for almost an hour to get into without success.
The instance was finally well organised (credit to those 6 tags for coordinating excellently) and 15 gold bags and a couple of silvers for my time was a much better outcome, more importantly to me was the fact that the bosses were a lot more fun when not being smacked on by 50 people at once…. maybe the reduced amount of particle effects and bright flashing lights normally filling the screen from the 50man zerg were to blame for me actually enjoying it

Loot increase was fine but not the main issue.. finally the event became fun and I am sure the QD lootless ones will once again be able to find some solace in the farming opportunity now out there

I never did make it back to Liadri … not sure I will bother now – dem gambits!!

Coverage combined with server imbalances makes for unbalanced and stagnant WvW …. Outside of the diehard players many others simply tire of its same old same old and for many servers its becoming nothing more than a map completion requirement.

Map stagnation.. so you made a few mods to place the bloodlust points in BL’s.. whoopadeeedoodah….. that made maps sooo much more interesting didn’t it

Outnumbered Buff is nothing more than a joke and does nothing to balance out the game mode during matchups

PPT – became irrelevant pretty much straight away.. many of us simply do not care about it anymore and simply look for fun fights instead … WvW offers no incentive to defend anything so the zerg choo choo train merely runs a rotation… EotM highlights the lack of understanding of how to better the game mode

Build diversity is all but non existent within WvW .. not everyone wants to be a hammer wielding stunlocking maniac who hides within a 30man+ blob protected by the AOE caps and plentiful condi removals.

No point in upgrading anything anymore other than your own keep for WP.. fully upgraded walls and doors are sliced thro like butter with all the OP siege masteries and 20 + golem rushes during your nightcapping exercises.

Hacking and exploiting has been going on since day 1 and recently reached new levels of trolling with our invisible friends, door stealth hacker etc, etc… unless it effects the TP it gets no attention.

Tournaments used as carrots to boost gem sales through server xfers.. only aids in widening server disparity and creation of toxicity surrounding server stacking.. both from opponent servers and your own server ( nothing wrong with server movements imo.. that’s to be expected for many reasons, but I guess gem sales weren’t hitting bean counter targets so natural movement has been fuelled artificially and its killed many servers.

Nah, to me its the most mind numbing content they have put in to game (or should I say put back into the game, instead of actually producing anything new).

Zerg content bores me to tears and this is no different.. just because your 50+ zerg is offered up the chance to split into smaller zergs to try and beat the clock, still makes it zerg content only with even less to show for it at the end.
The same ole beef up boss hp rather than developing something more challenging than #1111 dodge#11111dodge seems beyond this game .. so no, I got some achievs, killed the bosses in the gauntlet for a few greens, now back to .. well, back to the same stuff only in Openworld I guess

The veey core issue is Openworld simply has no way to effectively eliminate the zerg way that it has harvested.
Sure they can place an idea into content that we need to split to achiev things faster to be rewarded better but Openworld by its very nature is just that.. its open and anyone happening past can hotjoin the action and scale the event accordingly.. unless of course they will politely stand far enough away until its over and they can play their own version of it.
The only mechanics they have is increase HP, kill AOE effect (thus killing enjoyment of players own builds in some cases).. high HP yields promote high numbers bashing #1111 with the occasional dodge thrown into the mix every now and then. Where is that making players any better.. its the same thing only with less scaling.

There is a good reason other MMO’s prefer to open up designated content instances and utilise their grouping tools.. you wanna take on the Pavilion then instead of wating for an NPC to rake in some coin from the economy allow the content to be run by organised groups or PUGS and the event scale based on the numbers grouped for it with min/max numbers to control the scale up/down.
Rewards can be as good or bad as they ever are but allow the players better ways to organise and test themselves.

Until ANET wake up to how bad Openworld makes these events, there will never be any anti-zerg content cos a whole map isn’t going to stand idle when events go on, they will hotjoin it no matter how many times we scream split.. cos even the split groups get whacked out of balance soon enough.

Queensdale's Death

Just imagine this. You’re a new player, out exploring Queensdale. You’re told that this game isn’t about farming (thats another debate), and it strives on co-corporation. You see a champion, you and a few other newbies kill it.

Then all of a sudden, you get yelled at by 50 people calling you all sorts of names. You ask why, they answer it’s because you ruined their farm.

Does that sound good to you?

Perhaps your argument might have been better if you didn’t try to inflate it well beyond what was really happening. Getting yelled at by 50 people? I haven’t even seen half that number of players in the train in ages (though i admit i was never doing much of train running, beyond doing occasional dailies and monthlies). And you certainly wouldn’t get flamed by all of them – at best two or three. On a bad day.
But then, i have seen much worse flames in other parts of the game lately due to megaserver. Perhaps we should remove megaserver then? Or Tequatl… have you ever seen how bad that one can get?

The truth is, the “toxicity” was (and is) a completely separate problem, and just got used as an argument by people that didn’t like the train for different reasons. Reasons that for most cases were variations on having their own vision of How This Game Should Be Played, and getting angered by anyone Playing The Wrong Way.

Of course that same argument you put out does in fact play out both ways…
Playing the " Wrong Way" is of course very subjective, who was in fact playing the wrong way will be thrashed out for as long as this game lasts… the train think players that loose them a loot bag are playing the wrong way out of spite and those players think the train is playing the content out wrong .. rinse repeat and soon the toxicity exists across all parts of the community and all facets of the game.
I personally cheer they killed it, but it will be a shortlived party when the same trains descend upon the existing trains across Orr, FG and the boss timer… so in the end nothing will have really happened except starter maps will become a little less zergy (possibly even considered empty again – though with Megaserver I doubt that to be overly true) and champ/boss content, as trivialised as it has already become will be still see its influx of players who zone in/zone out on their rotations.

The train in QD was a bad place to have it positioned.. all those champs in one start map was silly bad… nerfing them down to vets was a brave move on ANETS part, though maybe not all should of been, but what they absolutely should of done, still should do, is pout champs on harder rotations or even loot lock outs for “X” period of time, then trains will be better controlled and the economy (if this really is a justification for the changes) will be less impacted by trains.

However I did for the first time today get hit with pretty extreme SKILL Lag whilst running around in Gendaran Fields.. never ever had skill lag outside of WvW, but its happened several times now today already… the shape of things to come – maybe?

What happen to people should play how they want to? People join zerg train voluntarily. Do we need to implement 10 hours of mandatory tutorial training for newbies to teach them how to play? Open world Pve is EASY MODE, you can kill stuff and get to level 80 by auto attacking things to death.

That play your own way argument works both ways.. with the one difference being you doent find many individuals screaming insults at the train cos they killed the troll out rotation messing up their fun

If you want to derail QD zerg train or pick a verbal fight with them, please go ahead. It isn’t to anyone benefit.

I think you need to go back and read the thread through then come back and comment more… no where did I say I wanted to pick a verbal fight with a train..

The only train I ever pop into for a short length of time is Orr, mainly because I have always liked the map and the challenge the champs and events can often provide when solo or shortmanning… but the trains have grown long and always around so I jump in and jump out because there would be little chance of running them shortman before the trains trounce all over it anyway so in and out before boredom makes me log off completely for the night… I tend to tire of that stuff pretty easily.
As for QD, you only need step into the map to quickly find the chat light/ lit up with argument and discussions on who owns the right, play the way you want, be considerate for the many not the few, don’t tell me what to do etc, etc.. before insults and expletives begin in earnest….. or is this the part where you tell me that kind of kitten is started by some guy upset cos the train just messed up his soloing rotation…. like I said your argument works both ways maybe think about it before you jump in with both muddy feet.

All good arguments tbh.. and some of which I agree on, but for me the issue with the QD train isn’t what amount of or level of loot can be farmed, its the fact that on such a low level starter maps ANET actually felt having soo many champs are needed and on such a ridiculous short timer rotation … not sure how many MMO’s I have played where dropping straight into game gave me the benefit of hiding in a 50man zerg for hours and hours until I had reached max level and a whole host of easy farm shinnies before moving onto other maps.
Surely it would be better to input some better quality small group content dotted around maps for fun loot and challenge… maps filled with a mass zerg chasing bosses over and over that has no real place in the grand scheme of things but especially on starter maps, the way ANET have implemented this hash is just a toxic outburst waiting to happen and yes it likely will happen right at the beginning of a players gaming experience no matter how small a proportion of new players exist these days.

Orr train is at least placed in a higher level zone where players have already had a large chance to learn and adjust to the game, its mechanics, the content and what to expect on each map… having so many champs and thus players herded into one zones is imo ludicrous.. thin the champs out to exist across all maps, even it means raising the loot level on them but take them off a map flip cycle timer by reducing their respawn timers or place a loot lockout for “X” hours.. .. this way players still get a half decent drop on a champ, they move around maps so all maps feel alive at times and there will be less requirement for 50+ zergs running across a single map relentlessly.

This is kinda like the Last Refuge problem. They change a mechanic but something that was overlooked gets left behind and ends up broken by the change but never addressed or fixed. There’s pretty much nothing you can do about it but buy new ones and dump the armor deep into storage in hope that one day or year you can salvage it.

Not overlooked I bet.. more of a kerching kerchin and $$$$$ thought out process.

Some thoughts:

  • Every champion in the game is to some degree trivial once more than three players are attacking. Many of them if more than two, or even one.
  • There is an in-game tool already for harassment.
  • Champ trains are hardly zerging everything in sight
  • Deliberately disrupting others’ play (i.e., sabotaging the train) to “get back” at them is no better than harassing players who kill champs out-of-order. Two wrongs…
  • There is no learning curve for zerging itself. On the continuum of tricycle-bicycle-unicycle, zerging is crawling with a seat belt
  • If ANet agrees to kill trains, it will be because the bad behavior of trainers is generating too many reports, increasing CS work load
  • I’ve yet to see any good suggestions on how to “kill” a train. Lengthening event timers pretty much killed most of the events in CS. Reducing champ loot to the point where killing them is not worth it will put champs back where they were before the bags were added, with only a few people bothering to do them. Likewise replacing champs with Elites. Making low level champs drop only low-level loot would be a tacit admission that, “The whole game is endgame.” is now dead. It’s quite a dilemma.

No it’s not. The developers have outright stated that the Zerging is a problem from both a technical and gameplay standpoint, and are trying to find ways to reduce it without penalizing smaller-scale spontaneous groupings.

Interesting. If you can link a source for that, I’d appreciate it. ANet has advertised GW2 as having a heavy emphasis on large-scale persistent world encounters since the initial information release about the game. If they’re thinking about changing this emphasis I’d like to read the whole post or article.

Maybe you missed probably the best example of what Sartharina is talking about… the Watch Knights in the final LS events were patched for that very reason to try and thin out zergs and move it around. Yes it failed miserably as “they did not perceive” the playerbase would play the content out in a zerg fashion even though pretty much every bit of content brought into the game over the last 12+ months was totally zerg friendly … teach pets to act a certain way then suddenly expect it too change in a flash was asking a bit too much in my opinion

I feel like they could do what they did to the Spider. Downgrade the champions to Elite. Over in Kessex Hills, upgrade a few to Champions. =)

This is a good idea. Remove champions from all 1-15 zones by replacing them with Elites. Just relocate the QD train to Kessex or the like. The train runners can have their mind numbing farm and the starter zones can be free of it.

Why make the 1-15 zones play any differently from the rest of the games, for example take a look at traits, you unlock them at 36 but wait some of them require you to do something many times higher in level.

Or you can pay cash and skill points?

Lucky the train bags drop skill scrolls and coin right?

I do not share your viewpoint on this. You make it sound like Queensdale is the standard for every other map in GW2, that it should be held as the example for new players. Starter zones should be areas for learning the basics of general PvE, gradually learning. Not – Champ Train 101 or bust!

What standards of PVE? You mean auto-attacking mobs that are no longer a threat because everything got a nerf to make up for the fact players have less stats till end game?

Or you mean the stack and auto-attack basics of PVE which you learn in the train anyway and will use in everything from dungeons to the latest living story content?

This unfortunately holds merit, yes the trains can often take an overly aggressive view on players not wanting to conform to their ways.. but at the end of the day ANET have developed the game in such a way that it means this type of zerg auto #11111 gameplay has become the norm, from openworld events to world bosses. dungeons and WvW and yes even in PvP now. Its not just player attitude at fault its also very much a lack of creative development within the content itself and the mechanics surrounding much of it.

Oh, and I love exploring and finding stuff, whether it’s a sarcastic NPC or a beautiful view or a champion event.

And this thread made me realize I just keep map chat turned off. I wonder if that gives me a more positive outlook toward the game and its player base?

I too have found peace in running combat log instead of chat. Though i miss guild chat messages…but that’s a UI problem.

Otherwise, while i have seen vitriol in the QD map chat, more often than not, it’s either quiet or just the occasional “train?” followed by a map location. I see the same amount of “toxicity” in QD as i do in WvW, dungeons, and LS.

Doesn’t that statement in itself tell you something of the toxic nature of trains… those same players take that same self righteous attitude into other facets of the game .. hence the word – Toxoc.

Nope. You have toxic pvp’ers who never/hardly ever train. Not the train’s fault. You have WvW’ers with toxic attitudes as well. Again, not the train’s fault. You have dungeon-runners with toxic attitudes. Not the train’s fault.

Why do some people have toxic attitudes? Because they’re human, thats all there is to it. They’re equally toxic about tv shows or music or sports or any other thing in their life. Its how they are.

You get rid of the QD train, you just relocate the toxicity. Maybe thats a goal, but I promise you it won’t be gone at all. So those new players will see toxic chat in a 25-35 zone, or a 50-60, or wherever. Please rationally explain how toxic behavior in one map is better than toxic behavior on another?

The issue is the attitudes, not the activity. I’m sorry to be insulting but if you think trains cause the behavior, you should try thinking about the issue for more than 5 seconds.

You can be as insulting as you like, I got pretty thick skin.. so go all out and hell for leather if that’s what floats ya boat.

Nowhere did I say that trains were solely responsible for creating toxicity in the game.. but that they themselves create a toxic atmosphere when something happens that effects their own perceived ownership of the rotations.
Of course those players and their attitudes will move if trains are closed or nerfed.. like you say it’s all about the individual and the situation at that very time that has the potential to ignite the spark, which is directly agreeing with something you appear to have an issue not agreeing to, namely PvP and WvW.. again nowhere did I say trains create toxicity in those facets.. .. but if you wanna try to deny those elements aren’t carried over into those areas then from players within many of the trains , well, be my guest play the hypocrisy game all you want. Just to be sure you understand though, some of us who have been around since the start might have different opinions, you just seem to have trouble sticking to one you agree with.

Oh, and I love exploring and finding stuff, whether it’s a sarcastic NPC or a beautiful view or a champion event.

And this thread made me realize I just keep map chat turned off. I wonder if that gives me a more positive outlook toward the game and its player base?

I too have found peace in running combat log instead of chat. Though i miss guild chat messages…but that’s a UI problem.

Otherwise, while i have seen vitriol in the QD map chat, more often than not, it’s either quiet or just the occasional “train?” followed by a map location. I see the same amount of “toxicity” in QD as i do in WvW, dungeons, and LS.

Doesn’t that statement in itself tell you something of the toxic nature of trains… those same players take that same self righteous attitude into other facets of the game .. hence the word – Toxic.

We get it, ANET are playing both sides of the thin red line.. they try to cater for those of us wanting hard challenge, coordinated events (trashed by Megaserver imo, but that’s another story) and on the other the easy loot farm fanatics that prefer to run around in circles hoarding as much as they can, as fast as they can and treading over anyone that doesn’t conform to their precious rotations… then of course ANET screw over those who enjoyed running the harder events by trashing spawn times and megaserver malarkey.. yet leave the toxic trains alone all be it with a minor smidge of coin taken away in the hope it will have such a dramatic effect.. errm it didn’t! in fact they have gotten worse imo cos its even more important for the train to safeguard its rotation more than ever.. ANET needs to take a trip down Queensdale or Orr once in a while, take a deep breath while the maps load and see how many butterflies they can count in an hour.. sorry I meant champ bags.
