Why not have certain gear skins that are only purchaseable if you have a certain spread between the 3 traits? I am disappointed with ANet’s inability to think outside the box on this one. There are loads of ways that you could implement some kind of meaningful impact. As it stands currently there is no reason to have it in the game other than to remind the players that some features aren’t worth developing.

Is Mesmer the worst class in the game for Dungeons?

Autoattack everything? Not really. I like the GW1 Mesmer play style more is all and am having trouble with the drastically lower damage output offered by the GW2 Mesmer.

With the amount of hitpoints that almost all dungeon bosses have I see one of the biggest assets a class brings to the table to be their damage output though. If bosses had less hit points then damage would be less of a priority.

I know that many people say that every class is equally viable in dungeons but it seems like I have to work much harder, play much smarter and being basically every weapon set to be successful in a dungeon. Have you all had similar experiences? Are there any situations where you would want a Mesmer over another class in a dungeon?

This is a very good idea. It seems like when they nerf classes like Mesmer for solely PvP reasons then the class becomes worse in ways they did not intend. You barely see any Mesmers in dungeons nowadays because the class under performs in all things PvE when compared to other classes. This is an excellent solution.

I am no expert but you can certainly use it at any level. It makes gear depending upon the type and average level of the gear you put in. For example, if you put in 4 level 20 greatswords you will get a greatsword that is higher quality and slightly higher level. If you put in 4 random pieces of armor / weapons you will get a random of slightly higher level.

It is used for other things like high level weapons however at your level this is the chief use. You can also mix in 4 dyes to get a rarer dye. It is an alternative to selling armor and weapons that you cant use.

A brief summary of how this works and the purpose of representing would be much appreciated. Also is there a way to visually display a guild symbol on your character like in GW1?

Ig you think that mounts will stop you from enjoying the scenery then don’t use them. People play games in different ways. If I had mounts I probably wouldn’t use waypoints as much. I think that teleporting everywhere breaks up the world in an unpleasant way.

I have yet to hear a reason for mounts to not be implemented other than “I hate WoW and don’t want this to be like WoW. WoW is the only MMO i know and the only one that has mounts hur dur”.

That is not a good reason.

I’m not saying to make all servers this way but the one thing I miss from other games is the ability to kill people anywhere and any time. I think that knowing that you could be ambushed at any time adds a certain amount of danger to the game which I personally find enjoyable.

Having a type of server where you can kill anyone in the open world would be a new and fun way to play. Perhaps designate event zones as safe zones to prevent confusion with AoEs and whatnot.

Rather than responses like “this is a bad idea because I’m a PvE carebear” how do others see this working? Would this option add or take away from the game?

Mounts are about getting from point A to point B quicker. People IRL have had this desire for a long time. I’m sure that you use a car to get from point A to point B because it is quicker than walking. This is what people what mounts for in GW2.

Waypoints are fine if you have explored a zone. They are like flightpoints in WoW. If you have not explored a zone and would like to move faster, or if you just want to race around the zones looking cool on horseback then mounts are nice to have.

So I have figured out the bane of Mesmers everywhere; inanimate objects. Graveling burrows in AC EXP for example are immune to condition damage which severely limits the Mesmer’s ability to deal with them. What build would you suggest when going against things that are immune to condition damage? Does this seem unfair to the Mesmer class?

It feels like this portion is very biased against Mesmers. How is a Mesmer supposed to be an asset in this fight? You have to be moving when you melee so our multi-hit skill with the sword doesn’t work and the mounds are immune to condition damage. It seems like the devs didn’t think this part through. Have any Mesmer players cleared this event successfully?

Here is my idea. In GW1 When you completed a mission you would get a shield and 1 or 2 swords depending on the amount of objectives you completed. In GW2 You get 2 swords no matter what you do.

Currently there is no limit to the amount of times you can die on a personal quest. You can keep this (even though it removes all sense of drama and danger from the personal quests) but add a “two sword” style incentive for not dying. Bonus loot or an achievement chain/ title could be fun. Something to allow for players to strive to challenge themselves and be rewarded for it.

Im missing something here…you die 15 times in a row yet complain the missions are too easy..Wait..What ?!

Well they are both too hard and too easy at the same time. They are too hard often because if you play a light armor character often your only option is to die a bunch and eventually win via attrition. They are too easy in that you have infinite lives and there is basically no penalty for dying. Both of these should be remedied.

Being able to die 30 times is silly; it robs the game of any sense of drama or danger. I end up not caring about the big bad guy I’m facing because if he kills me I’ll just respawn.

Here is a fresh idea which I think would be alot of fun. You know how when you complete a story mission a large shield with two swords appears in the middle of the screen? In GW1 this meant you completed the mission and all side objectives. In GW2 this could be reserved for completing a mission without dying. It could be a kind of “super clear” which would award extra rewards and an achievment/title for doing all of your story this way. What do you all think?

Blue. If they made the missions doable to where an average player can complete them without dying, then I would agree that limiting rezzes would be appropriate. I don’t know if you should remove them completely, but I do like the idea of rewarding for not needing them. A certaind number of rezzes should always be available because sometimes you just flat out screw up. There should always be at least one or two do-over chances. In your suggestion, I would say limit rezzes to no more than 3. If the mission has been significantly reduced in difficulty, you shouldn’t need more than that. They should then reward anyone who never uses one.

Also, if they remove the downleveling from personal story missions, then they could remove rezzing completely from all but the highest level missions, because you can always leave difficult mission and come back later when you have some more levels.

Blue, I would again like to apologize for my initial reaction to your idea. I misunderstood your position and overreacted. Now that you have clarified, and offered some interesting ideas to boot, I appreciate your input. I’m sorry I “yelled” at you.

Thanks! I am glad we could come to an agreement :-D

Okay so lets say they nerf the story to the point where the average player can do it without dying or dying once. Would you then agree to removing the infinite rezzing mechanic? How is it possible to enjoy a scenario where you are literally immortal. You can “die” but you just get right back up with no real penalty minus a negligible amount of armor durability. There should be some punishment for dying or some reward for not dying once they figure out the balance.

not nearly fast enough. In the Griffon quest for the Norn personal story for example I could kite him onto the rez point and just instantly rez then damage him, die, rez repeat. I did the same for the human duel in the court room. If you die they should go back to full health just like you do.

I was unaware that de-leveling occurred in your personal story. That doesn’t really make any sense… I hope that they change the storylines in some way. Maybe implement the difficulty levels that they did in Mass Effect 3. There is a level for those who want to breeze through the events and only care about story, an “Average” difficulty and a higher difficulty level for those who do not feel challenged by the current environment. In the higher difficulty they remove the ability to rez in the mission. That would solve everyone’s problem right?

Eh, it doesn’t seem that you understand where I’m coming from. What is the point of playing a game where it is impossible to lose? You don’t have to rush the personal story; you can gain a few more levels if you can’t beat it at the point you are at now. Currently it is too hard in that the mobs kill you way too easily. It is also however too easy in that you can rez an infinite amount of times and gradually whittle down the boss. This feels more like a chore than a game.

The last time I played a game like this was Kirby’s Epic Yarn. My wife loved that game because it was stress free and did not punish you for dying. A game where you are supposed to be a hero battling zombies and pirates and dragons should have at least some element of danger right? Or maybe we should just all throw yarn at each-other.

Eh this is the second time he has insulted my opinion regarding this issue. That aside I agree, you shouldn’t have to. There was an early norn quest involving a gryphon which was waaaaaay too hard. As I see it there are two things that should change. Nerfing the difficulty would be great. Also getting rid of infinite rezzing. Even Mario has a limited amount of lives, and he doesn’t have the “downed” state as a cushion. If you cannot get past a part in your story you probably should get better gear, gain a few levels or find a few friends.

Personally I am beating quests that are 8 levels higher than me. This is not because I am a good player; I am a bad player with very poor reaction time. It is just impossible to lose.

Haha calm down there. Everyone should be able to do the storylines, I’m not saying that they shouldn’t. I am saying that if the only way to beat a mission is through attrition then the storylines are designed poorly. Currently there is no sense of danger or urgency in the storylines. It is literally impossible to lose unless you get bored. You may as well be playing Wii Sports or Farmville.

The solution could be to allow for rezzing but have boss mobs heal to full when you do so. Basically every other MMO is like this. Or only let you rez X amount of times. Or just make it easier and remove rezzing. Having to beat your missions through dying repeatedly not only makes zero sense from an RP perspective but it is also very boring. I don’t feel like a hero in my story; I just feel like a punching bag that keeps bouncing back for more.

I would appreciate it if the option to rez during your personal story was taken away. Currently how I beat many of my personal story quests are just by doing some damage, dying, rezzing and repeating. The cost of repairs is negligible so there is no sense of danger or drama.

An example is that during a certain duel in a courtroom I was able to rez right outside the courtroom without the NPCs’ health meters resetting. At the end I was in my underwear in the middle of the courtroom, victorious after about 15 deaths. While this was very funny it was nearly bug-like.

Please don’t mistake me as an elitist. I understand that the game needs to be easy in order to cater to a wider audience. But allowing for infinite rezzing and no boss resetting completely robs the personal storyline quests of any challenge. Please consider changing this.
