The choice of god blessing you is mostly inconsequential; it affects a few lines of dialogue, but that’s it.

Racial skills are unlocked as soon as you get access to utility skills. They’re generally sub-par compared to your profession skills, but sometimes they can fill a niche while you wait to unlock other skills that would fill but are locked.

Season 2 is meant to be always accessible by design; don’t feel rushed to buy it when you won’t be able to play it for now (unless you think gold>gem prices are going to spike).

Just Completed Personal Story... WHAT???

in Living World

Bob F It.5701

Anet really must focus on S1 before anything else, its a big turn off for new and returning players who missed it…at least I think so, specially now with a new expansion is coming out it only gets more and more confusing. It Just makes sense that S1 comes before S2 and specifically before all expansions.

I don’t think it is that hard, I have read community thoughts and ideas regarding the same, It can be done easier than they making it appear to be. I guess they are just delaying a really important matter.

I think it should be the focus after HoT releases, along with hunting down any bugs that arise from the release; there should be enough content to keep most players busy while it’s happening.

Just Completed Personal Story... WHAT???

in Living World

Posted by: Bob F It.5701

Bob F It.5701

As a possible bug note. I did buy this story line early this week and the same thing happened to me. I finished Zman and then the first episode that it gave me for LS2 was the last episode. I completed it wondering why I was attacking these enemies with no context and then went into my achievements to find that it was in fact the last story, but it put me on it first. I now have my last episode completed first and with all mastery done for it as well.

I’d like to have QA repro this, but I need to know exactly what happened. Let me know if my understanding of your situation is accurate here.

  • You hadn’t yet completed Personal Story (e.g. did every story step except Zhaitan)
  • You bought LW Season 2 in the gem store
  • You then finished your Personal Story by defeating Zhaitan
  • The content guide then pointed you at LW S2 Episode 8 instead of Episode 1

Is this correct?

I’ve experienced similar results when doing alts while Season 2 was rolling out. Whenever Personal Story was finished, the most recent LS chapter would activate, regardless of any earlier chapters also being unlocked.

I miss healbombs too, but Mortar and Medical kits have been made practical for healing allies.
Soothing Detonation is pitiful, though. 545 healed from 1025 healing power. How useful that is depends on how many blasts you can get out.

The idea behind the Living World was that if you weren’t online in Tyria while it was happening, then you just weren’t a part of it.

Except that your role in it is assumed whenever material refers to previous events.

Crafting. There was the list of items you could make on the left, but it was quite invisible as to what you could do in the discoveries panel (not so much with cooking – just rub up to 4 things together). Ended up with a skrittpile of dowels and not aware how a grey-xp inscription would progress my crafting level.

That and how to handle more advanced enemy tactics. I wasn’t really experienced when Southsun Cove came out, and the breeze riders kept stealing the regeneration from my healing turret (I know the better way to use the turret now).

Also PSA to those for whom English may not be your main language:

A “tome” is a large book, pages bound between covers. Pronounced toe-m.

A “tomb” is a large vault, usually underground, used to bury the dead. Pronounced toom, perhaps with a slight extra lip press to suggest the b on the end.

Thank you. That would be me not proof reading my post.

Living Story, success or failure?

Failure. After playing 4 chapters of season 2, I just felt alienated and insulted at how the presentation of the continuity straight up assumed you had the chance to play every piece of removed content. I have much more fun ignoring Living Story and just playing the base game’s content.

if you didnt play it, you could always read about it, lots of blogs… and there’s always youtube.

they can’t just magically add season1, but last I heard they were working on it.

LS1 wasn’t “removed” it was never meant to permanent in the first place.

Oh, sure I could read about LS1.
I could also read about LS2, and HoT, and PS. Hell, how about I just don’t play the game’s story whatsoever, because reading it is perfect substitute!

I’ll use about 65 tomes and pickup the rest of the levels from Personal Story. I find the NPE a drag, and I’m capable of learning what the profession can do by reading the tooltips and experimenting. In fact, presentation of information and the player taking it in are probably the best ways for a player to learn (I blame NPE for the increase in Bearbows, and those guardians I see in dungeons who use “Save Yourselves” and then die all the bleeding they just absorbed).

You know, they keep everyone updated about what is being released on social media, their website, and right on the client, when you go to log in.

If someone cannot be bothered to simply read the information provided to them in a multitude of places, I cannot see why they would have the right to complain they did not know what was happening.

The only excuse I think is fair is when someone was unable to log in during season 1. But, as they have said they would like to revisit season 1 and make it available for people at some time in the future, they have already addressed this issue, and all we can do is wait for it to happen. It may be years, but if they want to do it, they will get to it.

“But the plans were on display . . .”
“On display? I eventually had to go down to the cellar to find them.”
“That’s the display department.”
“With a torch.”
“Ah, well the lights had probably gone.”
“So had the stairs.”
“But look, you found the notice, didn’t you?”
“Yes,” said Arthur, “yes I did. It was on display in the bottom of a locked filing cabinet stuck in a disused lavatory with a sign on the door saying Beware of the Leopard.”

Returning Player Questions

The most recent chapter in Living Story will be available to you permanently when you log in, but any previous chapters in Season 2 will be locked if you didn’t log in when they were the most recent; it will cost 200 gems to unlock each chapter. Any chapter can be played and replayed if it’s unlocked.
That aside, you’ll still be able to access any open world content in Dry Top and Silverwastes regardless of whether you’ve got the Story chapters unlocked.

If you have any characters that you created before the April 2014 patch, please resist the urge to delete them, for your own sake. Any new characters you create will have all their major traits locked until that character performs a task specific to a trait, or the character pays to unlock it for a number of skillpoints and some money. The trade-off of this is that you can freely relocate trait points, so any “grandfathered” characters (pre-April 2012) get the best of both worlds.

The songs I got to play had up to 3-5 notes at the same time on the screen going very fast, which was way too hard for a beginner. You don’t even have time to get used to which of the 4 buttons plays which note, and than they send all 4-5 notes or more to press at once. It’s borderline stupid. This is equal to hardest difficulties in any music game, right from the start. First songs were far from easy for me, and many other players as well as you can read from the forums. ….

I’ll take your exaggeration and raise you this:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_zkz-ff_bKg
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8BHI_wDk55E
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9hVzKg3Hg5U
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t8aDpAOmcUI

The set of songs is fine; it starts off with a breeze, and escalates to something with a challenge but perfectly manageable. Just park your fingers over 1-4 & 6-9, and your wrists have to do nothing.
Also, it’s a music mini-game. You don’t just sight read it; you press the keys with the rhythm and identify the note patterns that come.

Point blank shot is a lifesaver when youre on your own. Used with care, it can be a lifesaver elsewhere too. Mostly for the interrupt.
Its a common belief that rangers are able to predict the future, as a ranger should be aware that someone with a leap attack is running up from behind you, and just as you use your point blank shot to stop the mob youre fighting from rushing you, you ruin the other players impressive leap. On purpose, no doubt about it.
Still, seeing the impressive leaper later, on the ground with a mob gnawing off his right leg and only use autoattack to try to save him, oh Im so sorry, didnt manage to kill it fast enough to save you. Could of course used my knockback, but I thought you didnt like that. WP please, youre scaling

We’re not talking about screwing up leap attacks. It’s more a case of players are already in melee range, until point blank shot comes out, whereupon the group’s damage output drops by at least 50% in trade for the ranger doing 25% more damage. Gloryhunter much?

However, name core content that was removed and that is ACTUALLY missed.
Core content that was changed during the NPE update, this core content wasn’t removed, only changed, which as previously stated they are allowed to do.

The “My greatest Fear” section was removed from the core content, and it is missed. It may be that it’s written in the T&Cs that AreanNet can change content in the game (and it’s pretty important that they do), but just because they do, it doesn’t make them immune from critique to what they do. By equal measure, just because content is added with no additional fee in a majority of circumstances, that doesn’t absolve it from scrutiny either.

The “buy to play” argument is also highly flawed. That model applies when you buy a game, and you run that game; with GW2, you buy to get into the game, and then someone has to keep the lights on. This does need people to put more money into the system, but if you think that means that you can just ignore everybody else that doesn’t put money in, I can’t explain why that’s wrong better than these guys did. I’m linking this video now, because I keep seeing people trivialising the cost for past episodes as “only 200 gems”. It’s “only” 200 gems per episode, which is currently 600 gems (or $7.50, or 95 gold as of the time of this post), and that cost will only increase with time. If season 1 was charged at “only 200 gems” per each of the 25 episodes, that costs “only 5000 gems” or $62.50 plus tax, or 790 gold and likely more as the cost will inflate. You’d have to really, really want to play that content to justify putting up the cost.

Everyone is saying that the My Biggest Fear plotline is missing, but I completed it on my Thief last week and started one on my elementalist today. it’s still there.

Word on the street is that if you were already in the middle of the arc, you can still play it. I’ve done PS from 40 to 80 the past two weeks and went straight from Forging the Pact to The Battle of Fort Trinity.

There are two ways the fight with the High Wizard can occur. the first is to go through the Gates of Arah event chain; the last event is fight the guy himself. Otherwise, if the gates are already captured, the earliest convenience (on the same server shard) is when the defence event for the gate runs (this could be up to an hour). While the Wizard shows up again, you only need to successfully run down the defence clock to unlock the trait.

Posts like these are why we can’t have nice things

What do you mean?
I cant find any good reason to have no instance owners. Its a griefers and kickers paradise to have it like this. And yes I count people who ignore the lfg descriptions as griefers. If you try to kick them you run the risk of getting kicked yourself if there is someone in the group who is on that persons side.
Not to mention your instance will get deleted immediatly now if everyone left it. Very bad if there is server lag and everyone gets a network error.

I don’t see how this works. It only took one key person to lose connection to lose progress in a dungeon. Everyone losing connection is strictly a subset of that scenario. If your idea of being punitive is to leave the dungeon to kill the instance, then how are you personally any different for not being in the non-owner instance, either kicked or voluntarily?

I’ve just hit level 80 with a character and just found the order of events crazy. The issue with the eyes has already been stated. Sayeh’s appearances are also backwards.

From what I can tell, someone decided the design was to have a handful of missions per chapter, strictly at 10 levels per chapter, shoehorn the Orr missions into what felt like a theme, then eject everything that exceeded the 5 missions average per chapter. “Chapter 7” is now pretty underwhelming, as you just repeatedly hop on an airship taxi to all of the missions, and don’t get to see the scenery and situation of Orr.

Coil Event Fail Toxicity

It should never be more profitable to fail an event than complete it, period.

I agree, but that isnt the case and I need muh farm. if someone asks nicely for living story me and my guild find them an instance and help him complete. period. we realize that other people want different things out of the game and we’re not trying to hinder them. but for all the time we spend trying to help those that need LS it is infuriating for me to have to read these posts about how all farmers are toxic and exploiters. I’ve spent more time helping people finish for LS this week than ive spent actually farming it. courtesy begets courtesy and from a majority of the posts i read on this subject i can tell that no courtesy was given on their end, so why should they expect courtesy in return?

If I parked a van in front of your garage, should I expect some courtesy when I move it out of the way when you ask me?

Is the word “toxicity” gonna be the new “troll”? I’m already sick of it.

No, I think the sentiment of “kitten you, just let the event fail” is quite genuine.

No Skill Points at Level Up and No Loot

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Skill points are awarded at intervals. I got 8 skillpoints for hitting… level 31 or 32.

… why did they dOO this? :/

Why do you think it’s bad that they did this?

Experienced players tend to have enough skill points they can consume to buy whatever they want. New players tend to get what’s given to them and don’t look for a new skill point every level.

By the time you’re level 40, you generally have bought all the 1 point skills you need anyway, so 1 skill point isn’t very helpful.

That’s why they did it.

I’m an experienced player, and I don’t have a crap-ton of scrolls lying about. I’m really having to grind out for levels to hit the milestones on my ranger. And one skill point is very helpful; it’s 33% progress to getting a 2nd tier skill, or 16% to a 3rd tier. Previously, I knew that when I leveled, chances are that I’ve maybe hit the threshold to try out a new utility. Now, I’m stuck on the same build until I’ve put a lot of time in running around for skill challenges or crossing that 8 level gulf.

I found the actual missing POI

What would be great if map icons weren’t stacked on top of each other to hide each other, and that players aren’t looking for kitten -brown squares on a background of kitten -brown coloured terrain.

I’ve checked all other 27 POIs, and I’ve walked around the whole camp, so unless by “‘underneath’ the waypoint” you mean there’s a tunnel for the camp (I’m standing on the WP in the first screenshot), I think it’s safe to say the POI got deleted.

Well this is annoying. I’m trying to do some map completion on one of my characters, but it appears that Jofast’s Camp is no longer a point of interest, but the number of POIs on the map remains the same.

Just for comparison, I searched for the POI the character I’m doing the map on, and with someone who’s actually done a world completion.

Recommendations for keybinds?

in Engineer

Changes I made to keybinds were:

R – Healing
Z/X/C/V – Utility/Elite
Mouse 4 – Dodge (turn off double-tap dodging)

I found F1-4 close enough to WASD to keep it.
An extra tip is that ` will stow your current kit (or do nothing if you have no kit), so that can be handy for swapping back to your normal weapon.

Event Scaling is Harming the Game

how is that harming the game? so a few people get stacks of bloodstone dust and some Masterwork fodder, I can’t see how that impacts on your game

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Dynamic_Event#Anti-griefing_design

It creates player conflict.
Case in point, I was doing map completion in Cursed Shore (after not being in the map for about 6 weeks) and it seemed like a good opportunity to tag the Shelter’s Gate WP and POI when there was a zerg of players running through Penitent Path with the event chain.
Blix makes it through the tunnel; cue capture event. I run over the WP and POI, and then promptly get splattered by 4 elites, because the zerg doesn’t want to walk into the capture circle. No points for guessing why they didn’t revive me.

Aside from players in the zerg being foul mouthed and angry to anyone unaware of how they’re trying to screw the system, this is not how the game should be working as it’s now putting different players’ interests at odds with each other.

Well I don’t think it creates player conflict though it does present an opportunity for one.

But if you had waited a few minutes for the capture event to finish you could’ve got the wp and poi safely without any player conflict and then left with a few extra champ bags.

I had been in the map for 3 minutes and the commander wasn’t giving any instructions. Now I know better and I’ll stay away from non-temple zergs in Orr.

The centre of the problem is the champ bags and their respective carriers, and how farmers have now found a way to game the system into giving them more champs.
The reason why champs appear in any case is because their difficultly scales better than vets and elites thanks to Unshakable/Defiance, making sure there’s still some challenge when many players are fighting.

With the choice of plans A & B presented by OP, B wouldn’t be the best option, as you’re breaking some conventional rules of the world (you helped take down a champ, and you can pick up some loot). My opinion is that you could work plan A through just lowering the (maximum) scaling of the event for each failure to complete it; this makes an anti-frustration mechanic for players who struggle to complete the event, and after enough purposeful failures, the scaling become too low for the champs to show up.
