My point is in the few minutes it takes to drum up a topic or a reply crying about this that or the other, or explaining how you don’t have time to do this, that or the other, you could have easily created a topic asking for help, general or specific.

This forum/website provides you with the tools necessary to seek that help or start a conversation about your preferred class and techniques. There are way to many people complaining and not enough asking for help or helping others.

In addition, who said you need all day to sit in front of a game? Since beta I’ve only logged around 220 hours in Guild Wars 2, but I’m not the one complaining. I read forums, take others suggestions into account, and practice with my own play style. And you know what?; you can to!

So again, don’t presume you know me, my life, or my capacity to understand what a busy life is.

The time you spent typing 60 or 70 words could have easily been spent on asking or giving help.

I wish more people felt like this. There’s entirely too much, “OMG ITS IMPOSSIBLE” and not enough, “So we failed, what can we change?”

Did this for the first time the other day and we didn’t even know what we were doing, got it in the first try by just having three on the button and one person running around pulling all the mobs and me just doing the panel unhindered. Just seemed like the easiest and most obvious part of the fractal.

>Bunzy plays a D/D Ele and flails away on his 1-0 keys more than Beethoven trying to learn the sounds of the keyboard for the first time
>Bunzy, the invincible “I never lose a fight” God from OG, dies in about 3 seconds because he literally kills himself before he can “reset” the fight

Get over yourself. The problem isn’t that Confusion got “popular”, it’s that you finally found a Mesmer smart enough to target you in your OG zerg and slap confusion on you while they laugh their kitten off because you’re a free kill.

Honestly, it’s just that we have to hear an hour long speech after every fart. He talks entirely too much. At least that’s my issue. He’s much more useful than Logan in an actual fight (so is a dead armadillo), but that doesn’t redeem him from making a ten minute speech every time he has to urinate.

Ignore this, I figure it out. It must have had something to do with level. I could take the statless book and use a yellow transmutation stone to get the look onto a level 45 backpiece, then transmute that to my level 80 one. thanks.

I’ve read threads about how to transfer the mad memories book over, except that none of it works.

I did what was said to do with the quaggan backpack as per this thread: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/crafting/White-backpiece

I got the white backpiece, transmuted the book onto it, but now that can’t be transmuted to anythign with stats on it. None of my backpieces can take on the appearance of the now account bound book. The transmute button is just unclickable. Did I do something backwards or does this just not work any more? Now I’m stuck with a mad memories that I can equip, but has no stats, and can’t be transmuted onto anything.

Choosing a Profession

Brennus.1435

My main is a warrior and I have literally tried every weapon and gear combo I can in dungeons and in wvw.. I leveled a Guardian to the 30’s, got bored, leveled a ranger to 80 and felt like it was sort of hollow, then I leveled this warrior, and can’t even make myself try anything else. I’ve just stuck with it. If you like melee, you can’t really go wrong with it. You have a choice of so many weapon combinations with the warrior, and all are viable if you use them right with the right traits.

How should I use this, for example sword is in the offensive section for warrior and shield is in the defensive section. Does that mean I shouldn’t put them together or not?

Depends on what you want. Sword gets a boost from conditions, but it doesn’t scale too bad with power either. Not a bad burst skill. Especially in pvp where the burst skill (F1) applies it’s root even if you don’t finish the cast. The shield is amazing with any main hand. A stun, plus a three second block is amazing in pve and pvp. If you want more direct damage and still like the shield, use an axe. It probably has the highest damage on a main hand you can get. The mace is a control weapon. It comes with a block, stun, etc. Not very high damage, but a lot of control.

Notice how only mesmers are trying to argue that confusion is not overpowered and even some unbiased mesmers agree it is overpowered.

Never played a mesmer. I only play warrior and ranger in wvw. Confusion is not OP. There you go. It’s the simplest and weakest condition you can get if you have any idea what you’re doing at all. I’d much rather have 10 stacks of confusion than 10 bleeds, on top of poison or some of the other things that multi-condition proffs can do. Confusion is so easily managed that it makes this entire thread hilarious to me.

During the first few weeks you could find such gems as “Level scaling is horrible, I don’t understand why a max level character can die in Queensdale, this should be fixed !” or “I don’t want to help my friends level in low level zone because the repair fee is hindering me”

I’m fairly certain some players still find those zones hard. But that’s not the problem. You can find them hard, at first. But you honestly can’t expect that the difficulty is too high.

That’s insane, haha. I think the only time I’ve ever found Queensdale hard was when I was level five and accidentally wandered into the swamp where everything is level 15 or so. That wasn’t very pleasant.

I still notice sometimes that people approach this game kind of odd. I ran into someone in Orr who had somehow leveled to 80 and wasn’t aware of dodging and was complaining about how complicated Orr was and that it should be it’s own dungeon and stuff. I can understand if you’re new to MMOs and the game completely, but how do you get to level 80 and not realize you can dodge? Even by accident.

Brennus.1435

Why do they bother putting enemies in groups if they are supposed to be split? How does it logically make sense that enemy group doesn’t care at all that you pick them off one by one?
Standing on funny spots meant going to a spot where you can “afk-ranged” bosses.
Again, why they bother putting any enemies if they are supposed to be skipped (it’s easier and faster than fighting after all…)? How does it logically make sense that enemies simply forget that you ever existed once you pass a magical border?
Using terrain when kiting meant changing elevation with jumping. Because enemies can’t do any vertical movement it is very effective way to kite them.
Abusing line of sight has nothing to do with being smart, all you do is hide behind corner. Smart positioning should be about moving to positions where you can maximize your damage output while minimizing risks. Why do ranged monsters give up their advantage when they voluntarily come to melee-range?
Hitting through walls can be used a lot more when kiting enemies around corners. Why enemy melees don’t do that if we can? Or why we can even do that?
Using reflections hardly takes any skill. Just put it at front of enemy at any moment. Why won’t enemies stop shooting after 1-2 secs when being reflected? Most importantly, why don’t they dodge…

You know, if they actually fixed all these weird design flaws, the amount of rage on the forums would triple. People already can’t get through a storymode CM…

It would be nice to have this option available, though. I’d love to take my normal group through a dungeon where everything you mentioned as a design flaw didn’t exist. That’d be a lot of fun. Sometimes we get bored and try to find ways to stack the dungeon against us, haha.

I heard players complaining that Queensdale was hard when they were on their level 80…should it be fixed ?

As for the rest of the thread. You can’t make dungeons easier, because a lot of people are already bored with how easy they are once you’ve figured them out the first time.

Some people want them even harder. And honestly they’re not that hard if you don’t give up and just adjust your tactics. My group has done every dungeon on level with the gear we had available (greens, few rares from drops, etc. stats all over the place). Some can be extremely difficult, but they’re not impossible and if you decrease that challenge people who do enjoy it will lose out. If you insist on instead of trying to learn better management in the dungeons, that you simply get an easier dungeon, then the only real way to do that so it doesn’t enrage either side is to add more difficulty levels to dungeons in some way. But let’s be honest, a lot of these “dungeons are hard threads”… the posters never ask what they might can do better to finish the dungeon as others stated they have. Instead they just argue they’re too hard no matter what you say or show them it’s possible with what they have. That’s a shame, really.

Some of them are hilarious. Logan brings about as much usefulness in a fight as a dead armadillo would. In Arah in that hallway just before Lupicus, the NPC there once just up and shot a mob that we were skipping by. For no definable reason. We always skip those mobs the same way, and she’s only done that once. It was pretty funny. They don’t really ever annoy me, though. Mostly just kitten AI.

Share your data about perceived strange drop behavior here!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Brennus.1435

This has been an interesting thread. The problem is that it’s mostly all anecdote. There’s no concrete anything in any part of this. I have played a little over 600 hours since release, and I have never gotten an exotic drop from the world until last night. I could very easily say that since the patch I’ve had better luck and it would mean just as diddly as people saying they’ve gotten less.

No one will take you seriously, that’s why the dev responded with such an offensive post, I’d imagine.

There may be a problem, there may not be one, but you won’t get it fixed if the entire argument is:
Person A: I haven’t gotten a rare in a month.
Person B: I got two this week.
Person A: Congratulations, champ, but since I didn’t it’s broken.

That is seriously the theme here. Some of you aren’t getting the same drops, and yet others say they are. That’s why no one can take you seriously. It’s anecdote. Anecdote is not truth. It’s filled with confirmation bias and skewed views.

Some of you keep responding about champions and veterans not dropping anything at all, and that’s obviously a separate matter. It has nothing to do with rates if they’re just broken and giving you nothing when the patch specifically says they should. There’s another thread just for that.

The only people who have any real data are the devs here. Unless you actually spent x hours a day for x weeks recording every action and the resulting reward prior to the patch, and then did the same for comparison after. But I bet nobody did that because why would we think to do that?

Since it involves botting asking the devs to see their data is not going to yield any results either. Maybe try running your own tests and numbers over the course of a few weeks and have something tangible to b ring to the table?

CoF path2 - really hard

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Brennus.1435

Brennus.1435

I don’t get it? I thought they were normal mobs and 1 veteran every 10 secs or so? 5 players really can’t handle that?

QFT. Any group of competent players should be able to handle this.

Classes don’t matter and you can do this event with lvl 80 green gear. If five people can’t kill regular mobs and one low health veteran they should really ask themselves what they’re doing wrong.

This is sort of what I was thinking. I’ve come to realize that so many of these “dungeons are hard” posts in threads like this are more, “wah it hurts I want it easy,” and not so much, “what can I do to get past this?” I don’t get it. Never will, I guess.

Every time you tell someone it’s doable, you hear, “yeah but with x class only.” Then you say, “no I’ve done it with every class combination.” “yeah well 80 exotics make it too easy.” “I was on level in greens.” “Yeah but bawwwwwww”

The difficulty of some of the content isn’t really consistent with it’s level. I mean CoF paths are easier than AC paths, but it requires a higher level. Either way, all these are doable, have been done multiple ways by many people. If you can’t get past them just simplly ask what you can do to figure it out. There are plenty of people here who would rather help you out than listen to the crying about dungeons being impossible all the time.

The story quests are based on the options you chose during character creation. At times they will be the same and at the end you will get a prompt asking if you’d like to also complete the quest along with the party leader. If your story diverges based on different choices at creation, then you’ll both need to do each story for each of you to finish. Even if you have different story quests, toward the end they will merge again and you’ll be able to do the ending together anyway.

Greatsword versus Axe for PvE DPS

I really wasn’t aware that axes did so much damage when compared to greatsword. I just started using the axe because the greatsword just felt way too situational. I’m the type of player that can’t stop moving, and HB was just stupid for me. I kept interrupting it even if the mobs weren’t moving. In pvp it was 60x worse. I never got one off unless the person was rooted or afk. I just don’t see the value in the highest damage the weapon has being so situtional and requiring you to root yourself in a game that basically requires you to keep moving at end game pve content. I’m glad to know my choice to go axes made some mathematical sense as well, haha.

Caudecus Manor Ridiculous for lvl 45 dungeon?

Brennus.1435

My problem is not about that i don’t like a challenging dungeon. My problem is, that in a game with no designated healing and tank class, in a game where Anet so proudly claims “Everyone can tank” the reality is that not everyone can in such level of difficulty dungeons.

Unless you have guardians / mesmer etc to provide a bit amount of shields, protection and projectile reflection the dungeon is really frustrating. Why should i be restrained by team setups ?? Wasn’t your motto Anet that any team setup could do any dungeon with no problems ? Yes some setups maybe are better than others but i didn’t expect it to be at the point of unless you have this and this hero in your team you are most likely to fail.

My first 2 runs i did it with some friends. 2 rangers , 1 necromancer, 1 elementalist and 1 mesmer in group. It was nearly impossible to survive 5 minutes without at least 3 people dying…

I play a ranger and i run with full exotic gear with toughness, vitality, precision (obtained specifically for dungeons like that) and i still get 2 shotted by every boss in there, i still have hard time surviving in there and i have people bashing at me when i pug “omg noob ranger you are a glass cannon, rangers useless anywhere”.

That’s my problem!. I enjoy a challenging dungeon. But a dungeon that offers real challenge, not mindlessly trying to dodge roll through 20+ mobs and find the best spot to use an Ash legion spy kit in order to hope to survive the hordes chasing you just because you have no chance to kill them in fight.

[/quote]

Have you simply tried better pulls? I’m not bragging when I say we’ve three manned it on level. I’m just simply stating that it’s really not that hard if you use certain tactics. Skipping isn’t one of the tactics I mean. There are places, however, in CM where if you don’t use the scaffolding to bypass the group, you will die over and over and over because of the chain pull that the mobs have. You simply can’t fight everything directly. There’s parts in CM where you need everyone to range rifleman so you don’t pull anyone else. There’s a room that’s a killbox, where you need everyone to get underneath a ramp so the rifleman have to walk down to you and can’t shoot you at all while you kill them. There’s a place where you have to use the scaffolding to bypass an nearly impossible group of like 20 mobs.

Don’t try to sound like an elitist kitten. When you boast to 3 man a dungeon post also the time it took you to complete it. Maybe you have 2-3 hours to spend to do a single path just for the challenge. Not everyone has that time. And if you refer to p1 where you jump over the mountains to skip half the dungeon then lol at you.

Why are you so hostile?

I do agree with OP. Reward from trash is a different subject, but just the posts where people say that dungeons are impossible and they’re talking about story modes is sort of sad to see. We three manned CM story on level with a warrior, necro, and mesmer. That people would say it’s impossible with five people is sort of bleh. They hardly ever come and say, “I had trouble with this dungeon, this is what we were doing and what happened, and I’d like some help.” They start and end with, “BAWWW DUNGEON IMPOSSIBLE NERF PLX.” I’d love to try and help people with tactics and stuff, but they don’t want to learn.

I’m on the fence about it tbh, I come from Everquest2, a game tht’s not nearly as easy as WoW, but not nearly as hard as this(at least in dungeon difficulty). I do believe a bit more of a balance would be nice(not everyone is down with the learn every tactic and dodge every detrimental style that this game exclusively has in it’s dungeons). Perhaps an easy-mode and a hard mode for dungeons, an easy-mode in which the mobs are closer to the difficulty that they offer in open world areas, and give the same crappy loot that you currently get while doing dungeon runs, then a hard mode that’s like what the dungeons are like now and give loot worth getting for the difficulty level.
Cuz sometimes ya just get off a long day of work, you’re tired and ya wanna run some quick Gw2 dungeons, group with guildies, have a bit of fun and not have to figure out every trick and tactic of the dungeon and spend most ur night dieing and frustrated before going to sleep and doing the same thing the next day.

Honestly leash pulling is your best friend. My wife and I run a guild with people who are only active a few days a week, yet we’ve three manned CM on level. I know it’s not easy. Sometimes you get with just horrible people and have a bad experience. You really don’t need to spend the night dying and frustrated, seriously. I’m just saying there’s ways to do dungeons without making you hate life. You can message me and we’ll talk about it privately.

The thief and its gameplay - Your feedback [Merged]

I have an opinion as a warrior.

Thieves hurt. They hurt a lot. Especially when you’re alone in w3. Then again, why would you want to be alone there?

I fought my first thief 1v1 today. It was a close fight with me utilizing all I had to survive and trick him into being an easy burst. It was actually a lot of fun.

I lost. But the fight was fun. I really don’t think the thief needs changes. I think everyone else should learn to adapt.

Human and Norn Romance?

in Norn

Brennus.1435

Genetic doesn’t really work that way. Myth aside, the 2 races obviously share some gene pairs. Different species often mate all the time. May take a few thousand years to find a compatible gene pairing, but it they are sharing the same world, its going happen. Especially as close as the races are.

But my Tyria appears to be different than yours. All any game does is provide each of us a framework for each of our interpretation. I don’t give kitten about GW1 or GW2 lore…in my world they are compatible.

If they aren’t in your Tyria…thats okay. Our worlds don’t really mingle anyway.

This is a factual discussion. Fact is Norn and humans can’t have children, because the two species are not related. As I said before, they probably don’t even originate on the same planet. They just look similar because of some cosmic coincidence.

You can dance around and pretend that Norn and humans are long lost siblings as much as you want for all I care, if it makes you happy. But it’s still wrong and it’s ignoring the truth.

They said this once about kitten Sapiens Sapiens and kitten Sapiens Neanderthalensis. But now we have reason to believe that kitten Sapiens and Neanderthal mated. I’m just throwing kittens in the crockpot here to add to discussion.

Edit: They edit Hoe-moh, lol. Use it appropriately.

Norn Thieves- Dude what?

in Norn

Brennus.1435

So imagine this:

You are just sitting peacefully in the living room with your wife enjoying a cup of tea. Then this huge towering norn bashes your door, comes into your house, picks up your television and starts walking away with a grin, whispering ‘and I’m not even using my bear form’. Would you even dare to stop this humongous beast? This is why the norn are the best thieves.

I lol’d at this. Good one.

A Norn can be a great thief, he simply doesn’t have to be sneaky, he takes what he wants from you by using only his (or her sometimes) beard. Then… He does other unthinkable things to you, again, with his beard.

The beard was honestly the reason I rolled Norn first. If they’d fix the feet to match the smaller, less bulky body types, I’d play my Norn more. As it stands he sort of looks like a goofy huge-footy klutz.

Character creation crossfeatures query?

Brennus.1435

This could just be me, but does anyone else ever with there were some cross features in the character selection with norn? I don’t want the body types, but I’d sort of like to have some norn beards, and some of the male faces on my human male warrior. Just would fit the whole angry berserker thing I go for more. I haven’t looked at females, but my wife seems to fancy some of the norn hair, but prefers playing a female. Anyone else have similar wants?

Why do I only make humans?

That seems like a personal problem, but I think there are some clues as to why this is happening, and it’s somewhat the result of a clever direction.

Take for example WoW in which most races….

Everything you just typed out here was extremely interesting and I am now researching gaming psychology, haha. Seriously.

Why do I only make humans?

in Human

Posted by: Brennus.1435

Brennus.1435

I started out as Norn. The part of me that wanted to just be a total hardass warrior thought Norn would be a great choice for that berserker style warrior play. The problem was I felt overly huge. When I used a smaller body, the feet didn’t get smaller to fit, so I felt like I had these large goofy feet. In the end I identified with and felt more comfortable with a human, and that’s what I’ve stuck with sense. I can’t really play a character I can’t identify with personally, and Asura are too short, Norn are too large and bulky, Asura are too small, and Sylvari are plants.

I used it on my warrior in dungeons for the slightly extra damage/cc up until my regular party got a necromancer. It still wasn’t the best, but it added more numbers that made me happy to see, haha. Overall it’s not that great, but it might have it’s uses.

Caudecus Manor Ridiculous for lvl 45 dungeon?

Brennus.1435

Seriously all these comments about it being not that hard?

When was the last time you all ran it as a 45 team…. and passed it?

Why slap a level 40-45 level on it and then make it so you need level 80 geared teams to run them, this whole game does this? every dungeon needs a level 80 geared team to even hope to have minimal issues…

Yet they still add level requirements to these things, then get thread after thread of complaints…if you add a 45 tag to it level 45 should be able to get through it no problems, Ascalonian Catacombs is the same, and TA, CoE…

We three manned it on level with a necromancer, mesmer, and warrior. It’s not impossible, you just have to adjust and use tactics, leash pulls, kites, etc. We have done every dungeon story and explorable on level with warrior, guardian, mesmer, and necromancer. It very much can be done. THis is why you get people saying these things. Because, yes they actually have done them.

In story mode, my party gave up at the part where you encounter a massive group at a watch tower. Snipers were tearing us up, while bombers kept us stunned. Not to mention there was a veteran running around smacking us.

Story mode remember….

Stay back at the tunnel. Have someone run up and shoot the veteran, then run back to the party at the tunnel. Everyone will leash except the silvers and the regular mobs. Kill them like any other trash pack. Then have someone shoot the veteran again, this time pull him back to just the trees so he doesn’t leash. Kill him by himself. Then you only have three snipers left in the trees, you can take them out like any other trash pack. Tactics. You don’t have to rush in swinging. That’s suicide.

I can’t stand posts about how impossible a storymode is. You never have someone just simply say, “this is what we did, it didn’t work, what can we change?” It’s always more like, “BAW DUNGEON TOO HARD NERF.”

I go to a place in Gendarron where there’s a trebuchet that consistently will shoot at you. Stand there, and when the circle pops up around you, count how long it takes to be hit by the stone. Then every time the circle pops, dodge just before that time. You’ll get it every single time if you’re paying attention and counting.

It will say the item is soulbound, but you’ll still be able to bank it and use it on another character. My thief hood I’m using on my ranger did that, but worked fine anyway.

des the rarity of color dye do anything

The rarity is mostly just the demand for the color. It’s why colors like black and abyss are so rare and expensive. More people want those colors than people who want shy lilac.

I agree with the above. On my first character, I didn’t realize what the level 80 karma gear would cost in karma, and I had blown most of my karma leveling on gear from the hearts and crafting mats, haha. The next time around I saved all my karma and it made getting the exotic gear at 80 much easier. You can survive just fine with the drops and the occasional trading post buy.

Edit: however, if you simply like the looks of some of the heart sets, go ahead and buy it. I mean you can’t give up looking cool, lol.
