Not an Anet representative, but I can answer this.
No.
There is data for it in the .dat files already so most likely this year if not within the next few LIVING STORYUUUuuuu~ updates.
16-18k when soloing.
25 might 25 vuln makes it an extra 60% damage right off the bat compared to soloing, right? How much would the strength/crit from Empower Allies, Banners, and 25 Bloodlust add?
Frame by frame I only counted 17 popups for that feedback so it’s not necessarily before the feedback nerf. It’s gotta be just % damage modifiers. I’ve only played mesmer once or twice while meleeing Lupi, does DnT or anyone else have a comparison from Mesmer POV to see what the normal crit numbers are like there?
Guys I’ve been trying some Engineer builds and I might have to reconsider my position.

Still waiting on those speedclear videos.
Here is all the proof you need.
lmao
and
A group of 1 engineer, 3 rangers and 1 mesmer beat DnT’s record kill :

Argh god why can’t you -1 a post
I ran a quick 8 minute CoF p1 yesterday with 2 thieves, 1 warrior, 1 guardian, and a ranger. not quite as wacky a comp as yours, but far from the “meta” setup.
Posts like this thread make me happy. I really don’t understand the whole “zerker all day war/mes only” mentality, when everything else gets the same thing done around 1 minute slower and twice as safely. Meta is just a stupid concept in general.
Boil your run down to the actual time spent killing things versus time spent waiting and running and you’ll see a 50% or worse increase in time over the meta speedclear groups.

Excel Wars 2.
Still waiting on those speedclear videos.
Team Contribution = individual_dps + team_damage_boons + enemy_vuln_stacks
This is why warriors are required for speedclear records and why rangers and engineers can never replace a warrior and still maintain record times.
There’s a difference between having scepter on swap so you can drop out of melee range to duck some pressure because you’re missing dodges or just need to heal up and camping scepter at 900 range because you’re a big dumb babby who doesn’t know how to melee at all.
The first one is a player that hasn’t quite mastered full melee but understands how to play, the second one is asking for a kick.
HB is also backloaded (most of the damage comes from the last hit) so being interrupted also hurts it a lot more than interrupting WW.
“Most” now means 20% I guess.
Guangmath.
Still waiting on those Guardian/Engie/Ranger speedclear videos.
Aaaaaaaaany minute now.
If it’s long enough between completing the same path on a different character you’ll still get 60. If it’s lower than whatever the threshold is, you’ll get the 30. But it should only happen if you’re repeating the same path over and over, as Cookie said. When I farm quick paths like TA Up or SE 1 for tokens I throw in a CoF 1 in between to make sure I don’t hit it. Seems to work so far.
I’ll just hold my breath over here waiting for those Engineer/Guardian/Ranger 30 minute Arah p4 runs. Or any path of any dungeon run as fast as a real speedclear group comp.
Dev response: CoF is pretty tough, and you guys got it done in under 8 minutes! Congrats!
I really can’t give specific timeframes for bug fixes/etc. because if something comes up that delays it, it makes us look deceptive. : (
A fix is currently in testing, once it’s confirmed and cleared it will go into the next available update.
I disagree completely. If something specific delays it, you could just say “well this was scheduled to go into the next patch but it got bumped due to such and such.” and I’m certain there’d be no torches and pitchforks. It’s the not telling us anything that’s way way worse. Transparency goes a long way towards building goodwill.
The last sentence in your post is good enough for me, FYI, and I really do appreciate you guys actually fixing something that needed to be fixed in fractals.
“Let’s use all my elites and burst skills and see how big a number I make!”
Actually the point of that video is a rather small number- 10. Seconds, that is. And I’m not even that good, I’m sure others could do better. But not on a ranger.
If you don’t understand, then again it’s: joking, trolling, or stupid.
(edited by Broadicea.8294)
Well that’s what I don’t get, I mean they obviously understand things about the PvE meta, and will talk about gearing a team towards higher DPS output, but then they come up with ridiculous kitten like Engineer>Guardian>Ranger….
Spreadsheets are fun and all and useful in discussions but when your final conclusion is something so ridiculous as that it’s clear you’re either just joking, trolling, or stupid.
I’ll just hold my breath over here waiting for those Engineer/Guardian/Ranger 30 minute Arah p4 runs. Or any path of any dungeon run as fast as a real speedclear group comp.
If you’re trying to reset a dungeon the best way is for the person who started it to swap characters, that should always destroy the instance.
Guang is one of those people that loves playing Excel Wars 2 but never actually offers any empirical data to back up claims. Engineer being top of the list for group effectiveness? Please.
Also, 10K DPS from a Ranger? Are you kittening kidding me?
This is before the June patch, so this is with the 20-25 build. Can a “10K DPS” Ranger do better?
What Ethics is describing is a way for Anet’s statement to be true as well as having it jive with empirical data.
I’d say guardian, hands down, especially as you get into the higher tiers of 30s and 40s. You start needing the blinds, pulls, reflects, and knockdown walls, and a Mesmer doesn’t bring nearly as much.
2 guardian 3 warrior on fractal 48 and you’re golden.
Exactly right Indigo, those of us pointing out Ranger shortcomings actually want them to do better. I have a level 80 that I’d love to play in dungeons without feeling completely powerless and guilty about my team carrying me.
Sticking your head in the sand and yelling at anyone who tries to display the reality is a good way to ensure that they never get made any better. But then, those people think that 30-90 minutes for a single dungeon path is normal, so there’s really no reaching a lot of them.
People who insist that Rangers are A-OK and do “great” damage and “carry” their team live in an alternate reality.
It’s not even a Jack of all trades, more like a 6 or 7 IMO.
I’m fairly certain you’re in the minority. There’s few redeeming qualities and no need to snare. All you need in dungeons are reflection, group stability, and DPS and the ranger can only do one of those things (reflection). Interesting how guardian does all three. Jon P wasn’t lying when he said guardian would be the cleric profession to end all clerics. Your best bet in any gamemode is always guardian. :p
Why so down on Rangers, Chopps? Where did this ranger-loving fellow from 4 days ago go?
On the last boss fight, if you are doing a speed run, you have to alternate what you attack: Mai or her add. Doing this in the right order (google it) prevents a HUGE aoe from spamming the arena. Speed runs in this dungeon will want to aboid the time consuming aoe but also must be good enough to focus down targets with the right amount of power. You can’t just feedback land aegis while dropping 100b like they do on the kitten Lupicus video.
Now you DON’T have to play this way. If you run it like a pick up group you will just accept that you will be dodging aoe. There’s a chance to lose a pet. Swiftness, careful dodges, well timed swaps, and signet of stone are important.
Rangers must be strong. ANET is challenging us, not hating us. They love us. So they make it hard, forcing us to improve. It’s NOT an unfair fight to rangers.
I hope that helps.
It’s only possible if you enter straight after cut scene and dps the hell out of that tree,
So in short, it’s only possible if you do what you’re supposed to do.
A guildmate once was saying that Lupicus should take 10-15 minutes with a good team and when I pointed out the (at the time) minute-plus record kill from DnT, the response was:
“Well yeah, if all you do is damage.”
I wish I kept a catalogue of all the idiotic thing GW2 players have said.
And there’s also the downside that if you’re on a ranger you’re lumping yourself together with the worst players in the game (period!), just to add insult to injury.
-Fixed a bug that caused the sale value of the exotic shoulders that drop from the Aetherblade jumping puzzle to be higher than intended.
There goes that. Thanks Anet.
edit: wow, 60 silver to 3 silver. GJ!

now just carry that oakheart branch through every fractal and it’ll make up for the crappy DPS

The room erupts in applause, Isaiah Cartwright collapses to his knees, shaking uncontrollably, tears streaming down his face. Robert Hrouda cheers emphatically, ’I’m going to make a new dungeon in honor of this day! A dungeon where rangers are needed! A dungeon where pets are required to progress!’

Strangely enough I play a melee ranger in CoE and my drake pets survive quite well on the alphas without me doing a great deal.
Imagine how much more you’d be contributing on a good class.
Don’t ask people to use their imaginations, it’s why they still think rangers are good in dungeons.
lmao, 10/10
sloppy PUGs
…
plan beforehand
Does not compute.
Seriously, it’s bad enough that it’s SOULBOUND on acquire, but I can’t even salvage this worthless piece of junk for a couple ectos?
Strangely enough I play a melee ranger in CoE and my drake pets survive quite well on the alphas without me doing a great deal.

I mean… At least he’s using appropriate weapon(s) for what he’s wanting to achieve. I feel like there’s far too much hostility towards people who don’t build towards maximum dps efficiency. Like, sure. Go ahead and troll someone who says they’re running full sentinels armour while they claim they do more damage than a zerker. But I don’t really think people should belittle others for running a class how they wish to do it if they aren’t pretending that their build is the best/pro.
What I’m saying is that almost a year into the game, the vast majority of players are still trying to play this game as if party roles should be completely segregated and they’re leeching from dps-oriented players on their team as a result. People want to spec fully into the control/support role and ignore damage because that’s how it’s been done in other game where you can’t just avoid damage with dodges or key utilities on the DPS classes.
Mace main hand, be it on a guardian or warrior, is trash for PVE, for example.
Just to further illustrate why PUGs can no longer do this boss, there was a guardian in map chat the other day (DB), who said he uses Mace/Shield with Staff as swap, and when I told him that Mace will have trash damage output, he said
“Well this Guardian build isn’t meant to do damage.”
TDLR
Don’t be discouraged by negative experiences, you can play your class the way you want, also with casual groups. You will be able to get the results. It may only require more time.
EZ mode (to make a bare minimum contribution) = Guardian, Warrior
Meejum difficulty = Mesmer
Hard mode = LH Elementalist, Thief
A ranger… is agood indication you need to kick him
ftfy
Try melee’ing it with full reflect uptime.
Do you guys have any videos yet of doing this on a second attempt, i.e. once the room is in a state of maximum spider spawns? Not saying it can’t be done, but it is significantly worse if you don’t get it right the first time.
Lower damage at range is to punish poo-butt babbies who can’t play in melee. DWI.
When I was terrible I ran with other terrible people and then learned how to not be terrible before joining up with other groups that would be carrying me the whole way.
“LFG for xxxxx, newcomers welcome, casual run.” will get you precisely the kind of party you want.
Because 9/10 times low achievement points means they are terrible? The effect multiplies tenfold if you’re using a Ranger. A ranger must have at least 4000 achievement points to not get insta-kicked when I’m in a rush, and I consider that to be pretty lenient considering how useless rangers are.
You’re not considerate enough to give them a chance? I find that quite ignorant.
The best ranger is still on a crappy class, but if they’ve stuck with it that long into the game they’re either too ignorant about PvE mechanics to know how badly they suck or they just don’t care and want the team to carry them. Either way, kick.
People don’t do AC anymore.
Agreed, not really that fun or interesting. Luckily I got a monocle the first time through.
