New AC is easier for good players with organized groups and harder for craptastic pugs with bad classes and builds and lack of teamwork.
I’d say it’s perfect.
When you post a youtube link, post the Share link instead of the URL so it doesn’t put the huge gap in your post (because the forum code is trying to post the video inline).
Just so.
I’d take a ranger over a necro if the ranger class didn’t attract the worst players in the game.
There has been no appreciable inflation since January.
Monocle only comes from the chest though, right? Of course you should be gearchecking and kicking MFers anyway…
The dredge will pick up the bombs now. So you can’t just leave them there and stealth/run away.
Just have every class at 80 in a decent set of gear. Then you can play whatever as every class gets buffed/nerfed.
Anyway, the devs should do more for the old dungeon first before adding anything new.
Why not both? They have multiple teams. A Living Story team, and people working on other content. I’m looking forward to them improving the existing dungeons, while also delivering new dungeons.
Number of serious dungeon/fractal updates since January: 0
Number of Living Story updates since January: 9
Doesn’t that just mean that the whole process will be delayed until the Living World rolls around to it? I don’t see how or why the Living World has to interface with the existing dungeons at all: I don’t think you’ll get many people complaining if they are updated as if by magic because they’re part of another story/content that’s outside of the “story” altogether.
Yeah I mean for me personally I give zero kittens if the changes to dungeons have in game explanations or not. Immersion is pointless in an MMO, I know I’m playing a video game. Hell, trait changes come from the sky and no one complains about that. So do updates to the gem store, and bugfixes to events and personal story.
If Colin and team are all of a sudden worried about immersion in the game, how about making it so that NPCs recognize me as Warmaster of the Vigil and Slayer of Zhaitan?
Just fix the dungeons, make the dungeons better, and make the rewards better, preferably in that order. Who cares “why” it happens?
Thanks for at least posting Colin, sorry you’re getting roasted but it’s only because we enjoy playing GW2 and see the potential of how good it could be.
I know I speak for a lot of other people when I say we would rather not have to wait for living story aspects of dungeon revamps to get dungeons that address our concerns- primarily being that they’re not rewarding enough and that there are lot of unaddressed bugs and glitches. I don’t think we need a living story update to have a dungeon bugfix patch.
I thought that your guild was dying. DnT has had a flood of members that all came from your guild.
I heard it was the other way around, but who cares, I’m glad both guilds exist. GW2 needs more good dungeon-running guilds.
Ok I’m not gonna watch for the full hour because it’s painful, but the twitch tv channel has a dev going through it as a preview. Based on their performance, yeah I’m callin 25 minutes or so.
No it’s true it’s actually a copy of Emerald Weapon from FF7 except he has 80 stacks of all boons and if you get killed by him it destroys all your gear. My uncle works for Anet and he showed me how to get to him, but made me not tell anyone.
Yes, just make sure Frost aggroes before all the turrets are dead.
They’re seriously the worst bunch of players I’ve ever seen, with the exception of a few DnTers and likeminded folks that for some crazy reason insist on trying to explain to them that the sky is blue.
It’s probably why the devs feel so comfortable posting there.
You had me at zerker monocle.
Oh the wailing and gnashing of teeth will be legendary. Suck it, scrubblets.
Not seriously taking bets, but how about some guesses.
http://dulfy.net/2013/06/23/gw2-aetherblade-retreat-dungeon-guide/
The devs think that the difficulty/length warrants a full 1 gold reward plus regular dungeon completion silver for every run. I’m guessing the groups that frequent here can get it down much faster than they think. It’s not apparent how much time gating there is going to be, but MF was down on 30 minutes easy, so I expect the same for this.
Why u do dis to me T_T
srs question, do you still find the LH/FGS ele as useful in lower level dungeons with how harshly the game downscales crit damage? though I suppose warriors have the same problem so eh.
The GW2 subreddit is the biggest gathering of care bears outside of Care-a-lot. It’s truly a fantastic reflection of the GW2 community at large, because they salivate over every single offering from the gem store and ready their torches and pitchforks at anyone who is critical of the devs or general direction of the game.
edit: kitten I thought this was only on page 2 I missed this entire argument about skill and melee lol.
(edited by Broadicea.8294)
“we’ll be working on dungeons”
“we will be working,” not “we have been working”
Also, tomorrow tomorrow tomorrow always tomorrow.
Still there’s no hardcore PvE oriented guild on my EU server ( Far Shiverpeaks) so I would hate to join some WvW guild that’s big or some kitten like that just to get my accesories. Such a pain.
I don’t know about EU, but on NA servers guilds offer public missions all the time. You just join the day of the missions and they purge all Guests after the missions are over. Easy.

Agreed basically, redoing the path is a pretty small penalty compared to even stuff like GW1, losing the money it took to go to UW or FOW.
Well, it’s not like that was such a big punishment either…
“Oh noes, I lost anywhere from 100g to 1k depending on whether or not we split the cost or if I used a scroll.”
True, true.
I think pugs will just have to suck it up and learn this stuff eventually. It’s been months and months and players are finally learning that berserker gear should be the end goal for PvE. Eventually the idea that they’re going to have to utilize reflects, group coordination, and god forbid, voice chat, it just gonna have to sink in. The AC changes that kitten ed off all the whiny babies have not been reverted. That’s a good sign. It might take forever, but maybe dungeons are being made harder.
(still need to up the rewards, but it’s nice to have things that people can’t sleepwalk through)

I don’t know about you guys, but I really liked Ca
edited to match the length of the Canach’s exp mode fight
Frankly I find class loyalty in gw2’s broken pve to be dumb and borderline stubbornness.
“Play the Way You Want to Play Even Though it Means Having an Entirely Underpowered Character, Oh and Don’t Forget to Get Mad at People Who Point Out Your Class’s Shortcomings.”
I was in the group Nikaido was describing. The problem that pugs are having is that they’r not fast or coordinated enough to do it right the first time, so they wipe to the enrage mechanic (whether intention by the devs or not), then the room is in a state that’s probably undefeatable by 95% of groups if not more. I have no problem with engrage mechanics disfavoring parties that don’t coordinate and bring enough DPS/utilities, but the only thing that bugs me the way the setup is now is that the dozens and dozens of spiders left over from the first attempt are still there, leaving the room in that horrible state. I think it’d be fine if the spiders just despawned when you wipe, but then would come right back if you fail the DPS check again. That way it at least gives a semi-uncoordinated team a chance to consider their mistakes and correct it at the boss, rather than having to reset and redo the entire dungeon. Especially since that’s the path with Vevina, the most annoying fight in all 3 paths IMO.
I guess it’s just a difference of degrees, whether you think a failed group should have to redo the boss fight or redo the entire dungeon.
I was one of the 48 nubs in obal’s run, and yes, it was easier and cleaner killing our way up to the door at 48 than suicide runs are at lower levels. Definitely recommend that method above suicide.
It is interesting to see how some people in this thread are ranting about how easy the boss is to kill if you just do A, bring utility skill B, use weapon C, have trait D, have enough dps and melee the boss etc etc.
Its all very well and good if you are doing this as a coordinated guild run, but to expect a pug to meet all these requirements is simply unrealistic. This is especially true after a change in the boss mechanics when the new knowledge on how to effectively do the boss hasn’t filter down to the average player yet.
So why should people feel entitled to sleepwalk their way through any encounter without a bare minimum of coordination and group effort? All you have to do is pick a decent weapon and use a couple key utility skills. That’s it. If you can’t be bothered to do that, maybe you don’t deserve to complete the dungeon?
with some kitten stat combination, and no tokens?
Depends… are we talking about +Vitality/Prec/Tough? If so then count me in.
I’m so tired of the most common combos ALWAYS being +Power, or +Condition.
+Power never should have been an option to begin with b/c it’s lead to this Zerker crud
And ++Condition is a joke in Dungeons that Anet STILL hasn’t fixed even though this ENTIRE BALANCE UPDATE claimed they were focusing on fixing conditions/traits!It doesn’t take an entire YEAR to fix such an obvious oversight, good lawrd…
Sentinel’s gear is trash and if you wear it you are not invited to my birthday party.
We don’t really need new dungeons, we need changes to the existing ones. There are many bugs and problems already, and new dungeons, temporary or not, are only there to make you not worried about how the existing ones are
But those are also being worked on. You have to realize that they put different teams on those things. We’re getting a new temporary dungeon AND they are working on the other dungeons.
As yes, “working on it.” That’s why we’ve had all these awesome dungeon updates since January.
You know, even if they pull out some massive update with a complete dungeon revamp and everyone’s totally surprised by it, it’s still a huge failure from a PR standpoint because that’s the sort of thing they should be talking with the community about. Transparency goes a long way towards creating goodwill between the devs and players. Colin is always very careful to talk about release dates because they’re afraid of getting burned by missed deadlines and pushbacks, but you don’t have to pin down a date to simply tell us “we’re working on x and y, these are the milestones we’ve met, here’s a little preview of some changes we’ve made,” etc etc.
And it’s obvious that they could, if they wanted to, revamp and address dungeon issues in a piecemeal fashion since that’s how they released living story content. The fact that all of the updates this year have focused on Living Story and Gem Shop updates shows where their priorities lie, and it’s not high level PvE content like dungeons and fractals. If you want to buy the “we’re working on it” line, feel free to drink that Kool Aid, but it’s incredible naive.
Banners don’t stack except for the might from Warbanner.
If two warriors already have Strength and Discipline covered, you should just bring For Great Justice, On My Mark, and Frenzy (or Shake it Off if you’re having trouble due to conditions but this is a slow group and L2Dodge issue).
sometimes I wonder best way to do a dungeon. now I know.
NOTE: This thread isn’t for arguing the efficacy of the “God Tier” dungeon groups, aka Guardian/Warrior/Mesmer. That debate has already been settled.
So some leaked, possibly legitimate patch notes are floating around, not sure if we could be infracted for posting them here so I’ll refrain. Mesmer and Guardian are seeming to make it out unscathed, but Heightened Focus and Berserker’s Power are both being made into Grandmaster traits. So our ever popular 20/25 and 30/25 builds will need some retooling. It will depend on which traits replace those in the Adept tier I suppose, but I think the 25 in Arms is too nice to give up.
Thoughts? If you’ve seen all the changes, any plans on trying to roll other classes into your power dungeon groups?
so if you get bored by the current dungeons – why don’t you run the event dungeon as often then?
And next month… run the other dungeon
Because as evidenced by the Molten Facility, they have kitten rewards compared to the current dungeons. Also, only one path. Also, with MF at least, they’re adding time gating in because they get their feelings hurt by speedclear teams steamrolling over the entire dungeon in 5 minutes.
So, would you enjoy running SE Path 2 over and over and over again for a month if it gave max 15 silver, a crappy chance at rares/exotics with some kitten stat combination, and no tokens?

I usually do just bounce when I catch the whiff of an awful group that is unsalvageable. Most dungeons thankfully have a tell pretty early that will clue you in. The first run/vine room in TA, spider queen for AC, icebrood hallway and first Alpha in COE, etc etc. Usually if I’m in a pug that struggles early I do try to suggest how to fix what they’re doing wrong, and if I get resistance I just dip out cause of course it’s easier to just find another group or start my own so I can kick idiots out. Sometimes though, the true colors of the pug don’t come through until we’re already halfway through the run and by then I would just rather get it over with than spend the extra 10-15 minutes to assemble another group (especially with the less popular dungeons like TA) and do it again with potentially the same results.
Basically I think the lack of dungeon popularity holds a lot of us hostage, forcing us to play with crappier pugs than we’d like if we want to get things done in any reasonable time (time spent grouping up as well as doing the run). That’s less the case for stuff like CoE, CoF, or even AC. But if I’m doing one of the others, especially at off-peak hours, I sometimes have to take what I can get.
I thought it’s pretty accepted that the Axe auto chain is used to replace the crappy GS auto, but GS is still there for HB/WW when off cooldown. Is that not settled yet or something?
What happened to Robert Hrouda?
He got put on the Living Story team as far as I know.
Fun fact: from what I’ve gathered, there currently is no active dungeon team at Anet. This might have changed in the last few weeks, or my information might have been not completely accurate, but that’s what I heard.
Well someone keeps making tiny little annoying tweaks to dungeons and fractals. I think a programmer throws a dart at a big wall of dungeons with a sign that says “What Can I Make More Annoying Today?”
Anet devs don’t play dungeons.
Welcome to dungeons. Enjoy!
Yea don’t expect any thoughtful design when it comes to dungeons.
Just gonna quote all 3 of these for truth. Peace out.
It’s your responsibility to tell them what to do if they don’t already know. Some players lack the curiosity and need to be told. If the one who knows doesn’t tell them, who’s going to? To get this run to go decently all you had to do is tell them to equip smoke screen and get some order as to who uses absorb first. If as a guardian you couldn’t get it to go decently it’s also a fail on your part here.
Here’s how it went the first time I tried to explain to a PUG how to properly do the Malrona fight:
Me: blah blah lengthy explanation of the poison damage multiplier and how we need to not clear the conditions and then cycle feedback from me (on my mesmer) and walls from guardian if we don’t get her down in one time warp
Captain Pugtastic: “we don’t need to do any of what you just said. just range and we’ll kill her eventually”
So yeah, dragging a PUG along doesn’t always go so smoothly as it seems to do for you.
You can do the story dungeons as you’re levelling up, but honestly I’d just wait until you’re 80 to do the explorable modes. Hitting 80 is really easy, so you wouldn’t be waiting long.
Other than that, I’d suggest finding a good core group of friends/guildies who you can reliably group up with for dungeons.
I’ve never, ever been able to convince a PUG to melee the tree, not even the easy as kitten turret or oakheart versions.
Vanquishing would be nice to have available, as long as the crappy AI pathing and glitching doesn’t screw it up. There would have to be some sort of mechanic to make sure any jacked up enemies get popped back into the open unless they’re meant to be hidden. A “X of Y enemies killed” counter in the event status would be nice too.
Of course Anet won’t do any of this so who cares
Divinity runes and allstat trinkets on Izzy’s warrior oh my god XD
We want fractals fixed and the precursor scav hunt… but since this is a thread about gem store… I want to be able to change my race. What I would give to turn my norn thief into an asuran…
GOD, plus 1 FOREVER. I so want to get rid of my charr an switch to something that doesn’t feel like it runs through molasses.
A new dungeon.

The recent story content and the gameplay/guide videos put out by a couple devs recently basically killed any hope I had of them improving anything related to challenging/teamwork based content outside of the very light, casual friendly stuff related to the living story.
never in my life have I cringed so hard as when I was watching those streams.
Got a link to those? It’s been a rough week, I could use a nice session of pointing and laughing.
Running with a perfect team does not take skill. It just takes knowing when to do X. Running with a imperfect team of strangers takes far more.
But what makes a “perfect team” is everyone being skilled :psyduck:
If the devs have taught me anything since launch it’s “get while the gettin’s good”.
yeah that too, now that they’re nerfing Pets for PvP, they better the hell give our melee attacks some stuff that synergizes a lot better right next to our pets like our builds in GW1. …“Oh, is that unkillable Rit boss permadazed now b/c i got a combo chain that’s broken in a GOOD way?? … yeah I think SO!” …man I miss the old bars…
My DPS and CC is Kiiiiitttten in this game… There’s no way in heck I’m bringing this overnerfed veterinarian into a COE or Arah unless it was on a Bet.
Go read jubskies guide and learn. My ranger does tons of damage so you’re doing it wrong.
How much is “tons”?
