The claim that rangers bring more DPS than warriors is still unproven, and will always be, because it’s not true.
World Boss chests, dungeon token rewards, and daily achievements all reset at the same time, 5 PM PDT.
TA has a split where you go up or forward. The forward path then splits again, forward and up. So there’s Up, Forward/Up, Forward/Forward.
Also, you come off as needlessly aggressive in your questioning though you’re the one displaying a massive amount of ignorance. Should probably scale that back a bit.
DR and token reduction aren’t the same thing. To “properly” farm tokens you should have multiple characters to run dungeons with because you can get 60 tokens per character per path per day (provided you run multiple paths and not the same one over and over). With only one character, you need to wait until server reset to run it again and receive 60.
Yes this does not stop me from instakicking all ranger pugs that join. It does mean I can add ranger to my alt rotation for dungeons with an organized group.
you can be kittening ranged for kitten’s sake, just don’t be ranged in a position that the harpies can’t hit you back
if they’re invulnerable it’s because someone attacked them from a position that couldn’t be attacked back
oh no, the guardian had to bring hallowed ground and purging flames, party comp is radically altered….
It’s not a coordinated group, it’s a very specific set of classes. You need a guard or mes. To me, there’s a world of difference in that. If it was a matter of traiting, correct stat allocation, skill and weapon selection, and effective communication, that would be one thing. But none of that matters if you do not have reflections. if a group of 5 different classes does not have the means to deal with the mechanic, something is wrong.
This sense of entitlement to being able to complete anything in the game with any class with any gear and any build is unique to the GW2 community.
You have 5 character slots. Use them.
Stop attacking them from below. Get in and melee. If you must be at range do it from one platform away at most so they have a LoS to attack you.
If you’re trying to melee and getting Invulnerable pop up, it’s because one of your teammates isn’t following the above advice.
The coordination of a team is mandatory for win even path up… but the oddity of path forward/up is the complexity spike of the final boss, which at the moment, don’t have a credible, IMO, reason to be.
It can be rewarding as hell to win this, but again, why is needed to create such an anomaly in kitten level dungeon? Because the rest of the path is doable with level 60 gears and I know because I’ve done it.
The complexity spike of the final boss isn’t the problem, it’s the failure of anet to make the rest of the dungeon like that.
HROUDAOf course when they stepped into explorable that was a different experience, since we built our explorable dungeons to directly challenge a coordinated 5 man group.
The TA F/U Tree meets that standard. The rest of the dungeon does not. The failure is the rest of the dungeon.
ugh don’t necro dev response threads, it makes me think one has actually posted in the dungeon forum in the last 6 months.
Another issue I’m seeing though, just to add it to the pile of “kitten that needs fixed on Rangers” is that my Jaguar doesn’t always crit from Stealth. Isn’t it supposed to?
It used to, but that’s was altered last patch. It’s still a very high Crit rate, even if it’s not 100%.
Well he gets Spotter and Fury too. Annoying, oh well.
Frost Spirit “ICD”
Another issue I’m seeing though, just to add it to the pile of “kitten that needs fixed on Rangers” is that my Jaguar doesn’t always crit from Stealth. Isn’t it supposed to?
1. I’m fairly certain frost spirit has an internal cooldown that causes the damage increase to be more like 3.5% than 7% to the entire party.
2. That ‘3rd’ warrior slot is much better filled with something else than a ranger (LH ele is a good candidate).
Uploading a video right now showing no ICD on Frost Spirit. Will edit this and insert the link in about a half hour. I did it in the Mists so maybe it’s different in PvE party settings. (ed: video link below in new post)
If you don’t need feedback (read: Arah), you can essentially drop the Mesmer now. Guard/Ele/Ranger/War/War.
(edited by Broadicea.8294)
For every Longbow and Brown Bear Ranger, there is at least one PVT Shout Heal Warrior.
I disagree and am prepared to fight you to the death about it.
My DPS as Ranger is really on par with a Warrior. If it weren’t, things would be noticeably slower and there is actually differentiation in clear times. Ranger’s also add 7% damage via Frost Spirit to everyone, as well as 150 Precision from Spotter. Bad players play all classes, it’s not exclusive to Ranger.
1500+ plus hours and I pug dungeons a lot. There are far more bad players on Ranger than any other class.
But you’ve definitely opened my eyes, so thanks for that. I have always said that when Rangers are finally fixed I’ll play the kitten out of mine. There are still major issues with them, but the issues aren’t as bad as I thought.
from my limited and NOT AT ALL experienced ranger play, I’d suggest axe offhand for swap unless you know you’re going to need the evade from SB. Path of Scars is a multi-target (in a line) pull for errant mobs that aren’t in the cleave radius, and you can probably add Whirling to the reflect rotation if you have Guard and Mesmer.
I don’t know how well Whirling Defense works for having people cluster up inside the reflect boundary though.
this is not wow
i will advice you the same way i was advised and it help me to play better
“be the last man on your team that is to die”
if your health is low and there is no support just doge doge away heal and jump back in
that’s horrible advice, if everyone followed that, the entire game will end up with full Cleric’s Guardians camping scepter/staff, and SB/LB/bear/bear rangers.
OH WAIT
It’s true, and I’m a big defender of CoF farms and being picky. PUGs are kitten at running it. It’d be great to survey and see how many groups actually get 4 runs per omnom. I’d doubt any more than 30%.
Color me unsurprised that “Pwnzor” doesn’t read the very thread he’s posting in.
Ok, been trying mine out with a 30/30/10 build and now Brazil’s build. I have to admit that they’re capable of more damage than I thought, BUT.
-sword auto still sucks because of the anti-evasion mechanics and the only way to mitigate that is to turn off auto and slow down, which reduces deeps. somewhat taken care of by flanking with an aggro-magnet anchor, but it’s still an annoyance.
-I really don’t feel like you can take more than one ranger like this in your party and maintain top clear times, since their two main party buffs that warriors can’t bring are Spotter and Frost Spirit, which won’t stack from multiple rangers.
-I think I’m still doing more damage when I pick up an ele’s lightning hammer. That shouldn’t be the case on an aggressive damage class which it seems the ranger is supposed to be. I don’t think that’s the case for warrior, guardian, or thief.
-Pet AI and pathing still sucks kitten . I get pretty sick of seeing my Jaguar not realize an enemy has moved away, then try to catch up to them only to overshoot and waste time repositioning (go go A* pathing). He always picks the time of an enemy being at 25 vuln and QZ+Stealth being active to do this, of course.
Still, even with the caveats, not bad at all. Good enough to add mine to my dungeon alt rotation anyway.
About Husk:
The easiest and fastest tactic is:
Stand as far as possible from golems (between two spawning locations). Gun has huge range so you NEVER have to take aggro. If anyone gets aggro just kill the golem or let it explode (you can also knock it to Husk but bit more dangerous), don’t play with Subvert.
Wait until golem spawns and start Subverting when it has moved closer to Husk (it stops there). I don’t think one Subvert is enough if you start it immediately.
There is no reason to clear bushes unless they destroy golems. 90% of them won’t do anything to golems. If something does then just destroy it (ranged if you want to feel safe). If you doubt me you can always watch this little video: http://youtu.be/WPQu-kztpg0#t=15m44s
It’s not exactly what I said but same principle (also note that Subverted golems won’t get aggroed).Unless something really magical happens, multiple people Subverting same golem should actually be good because it gets more Might.
If someone start zapping your golem while you’ve already got it zapped, it stops and pauses for a couple seconds. If you timed it perfectly so both of you zapped it at the same time, perhaps it wouldn’t do that, but that’d be difficult.
So if you’re designing a recreational facility for your clients and 75% of them only wear sandals, you create a gym that requires sneakers? Or wait, did I miss something and it says at character creation for any non-warrior, non-mesmer class: “NOT ALLOWED IN DUNGEONS”.
Syn Sity’s got it.
The dungeons aren’t the gym, my party is the gym.
I didn’t play very long, but I’m just thinking to wayyyyyyyy back when, and I don’t remember Shadowfang Keep being harder than open world in WoW except that it really helped to use pull tactics. You were pretty much able to go in there as a scrub and do fine. I think that’s why perhaps people are getting smoked in AC, because of the leap in difficulty going from open world with regular mobs and a few vets to silver mobs and having to 5-man champs.
doesn’t smothering not stack with itself?
You use Smothering and Night on Mainhand/Offhand.
Let’s see that with 4 rangers.
I guess the premise is that one Ranger bringing Spotter and Frost Spirit might marginally eek out more party damage than a warrior in that same party spot. But you’d have to perform at max efficiency the whole time, I would think.
Funny that they’re a Frost-Spotter bot though. Kinda like Mesmers.
Oh yeah I remember now too, you guys used Hounds on the Slave Driver so it’s not a repeatable run.
lol this guy and his announcements
soon…soon
They already posted the video of the 5:42 run a month ago. If you’d just posted the guide there instead of making this ridiculous fanfare it wouldn’t have been anything to it.
Congrats on your fast clear time.
-Don’t knock your golem into someone else, mmmkay
no deal
oh well that is assuming you want to get it done quickly, not hilariously
Everything is reportable. Doesn’t mean anything will happen.
Knock yourself out.
Just make sure that all 4 people actually get up on the console when they activate it, and the defender stands close by on the floor. That makes the golems all converge on a small area that the defender can cleave down.
Tips for the husk boss (last pre-alpha fight for path 2):
-One person per corner, meaning one person per golem. DON’T ZAP SOMEONE ELSE’S GOLEM. It locks them in place and will kitten up that pull.
-One person clearing vines.
-Let the golems go out as far towards the boss as they will before zapping. Usually they’ll stop halfway. If you’re standing in between the golem and the boss the golem will advance towards you, that’s a good time to zap em.
-Take condition removal but don’t use it until right before you heal for removing poison. (duh)
-Don’t knock your golem into someone else, mmmkay
Hammer heads need to be larger for the most part and the handles should be like 20% longer. As it stands now they all look like a $20 6-pound sledge you pick up from Home Depot.
I don’t know why they veered more towards realism for hammers while greatswords get to be so ridiculous.
COMING SOON: Guide to getting ectos from salvaging rares!
Can I use that video as signature?
go for it, I was hoping to have that be the end-all answer to these threads.
I laughed out loud in real life when I alt-tabbed back after updating to LF2M and the spots had already been filled XD
ugh it’s sooooo difficult to find a non warr/mes party
[thanks neigeux!]
Also stop being a whiny baby using “elitists” as an insult and don’t join speedrun groups if you don’t want to be held to standards.
Start by using #4 focus skill on the right side by the two turrets to pull the two fanatics close to the right turret and allow everyone to cleave all 3 targets. About halfway through the fanatics dying pop a feedback on them so your team avoids the second turret barrage.
At the slave driver, focus pull (or GS push) him into the wall and pop Signet of Inspiration (once might stacks are up) and Time Warp, if your team is a little slow and the Effigy comes at you, use a feedback to block its attacks.
Do the run, as you come up to the turrets and fanatics you can feedback to protect from the turret barrage but it’s not necessary. Assist as much as you feel like on the acolytes.
Portal for the boulder run is self explanatory. As the gate opens from that hallway, yell at your team for might stacks then signet to double up stacks on the gate killer. Stay alive in the braziers and wait for the gate to be down.
Make sure to change blink out for feedback as you enter the effigy room. Watch for the boss attack where he raises one arm and pounds the ground with his fist, feedback that so your team doesn’t get hit by the knockdown projectiles (preferably during the Time Warp so they don’t have to waste DPS time dodging). Time warp and signet again. You can also drop iWarden and Curtain to help reflect projectiles if Feedback is on CD but they’re not as reliable.
Fin.
ed: oh yeah, when you enter the first gate get yourself some Curtain swiftness and drop a portal near the flame walls leading to the second gate. Head down to Suma and Ferrah, using a blink to go faster, then skip the cutscene and talk to Ferrah while someone is still in the cutscene. Once Suma becomes available to pick the path, talk to him and drop portal exit, then portal back and run up to Magg’s gate so Ferrah doesn’t have to slow walk the whole way. Pick the path when you’re near the gate.

Banish has a couple uses but I can’t think of any in fractals though.
Jump on the other side of Dredge Strazars and knock them into the group if your GS5 is on cooldown. Same with any Ascalonians that stay at range during a non-perfect LoS pull.
Yeah I suppose bringing a LH ele does negate the need for signet. I just like playing mine and don’t want them to be useless in dungeons because I’m not as good on ele to make up for it.
not if the grub actually spawns after he resets
then the grubs go to him and he still eats it ^^
Correct, you need a double reset at that point.
Source: many failed attempts soloing, lots of resetting.
I can run CoF in 4 minutes.
yeah but your method won’t survive patches if it was published and shared on youtube
Not trying to hate on you Harrahou, it’s just…we (meaning the dungeon community) pretty much have CoF down short of some mind-blowing revelation. I mean, unless you have a mixed pug group doing it in like 5 minutes or a warr/mes group doing it in like 3, I don’t see what can be new about this.
GLORIOUS LINK POST
what laharl said basically
bookmarking your post so it can be posted in every other thread about this
I’m going to make a video this afternoon showing how quickly you can get a group using LFG posts that say “all classes welcome”. We can just then post that in response to every single thread like this that comes along (like 2 or 3 times a day it seems)
So I intended to do this yesterday evening but neither FRAPS nor MSI Afterburner will do a complete screen recording for me. I intended to have the video start in GW2, show me alt-tabbing to Chrome to show the LFG post I make, then alt-tabbing back and waiting for the party to fill up. But both those capture programs only capture GW2 and don’t show the alt-tabbing.
Does anyone know of any capture program that would just take an full screen capture including coming back to desktop? I run in fullscreen windowed mode, if that makes any difference.
let’s take bets as to Harrahou’s clear time. I mean, if they were really down with speedclearing I’d assume they’d just link Strife’s video. Sooooo, I’m guessing 7:30 time or worse.
Also betting on the video starting from Magg’s gate with no mention of the Ferrah speedup.
They have their flaws. But I stand by my post. They are a tier 1 class in PvE. I hate seeing people say the devs dont care about mesmer. What about classes like necro and ranger? Those classes are pretty much useless in dungeons and in pvp they have only recently started to be addressed.
I think it comes from the fact that every patch seems to bring new bugs to Mesmer that never get fixed, if they even get acknowledged at all. And they’re constantly being nerfed due to PvPers making crycry posts about how hard they are to fight. Greatsword is a mess right now and confusion is utterly worthless.
I agree that Mesmers are indispensable for speedclear groups but they do seem to get little love as time goes on.
