Death and the Mists

Since the flame-legion almost resurrected their old leader and Magg said something about them getting the spirit from the mists, we can safely assume, that charr-souls also go somewhere into the mists. It wouldn’t surprise me if all souls go somewhere into the mists.

We just don’t know if all souls go through the same sorting-process or end up in the same places in the mists. Since we’ve never seen non-human souls in the underworld, maybe only human souls are sorted in the underworld and other races go somewhere else?

And what’s up with that trapped in your body thing? If the health-bar hits 0 the lore says you’re only defeated, but not dead(http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Death). That’s because the gods don’t interfere with the world directly anymore and resurrection has become almost impossible (the former resurrection shrines stopped working). So if you die in GW2 you die for good.

I believe most souls go into the underworld where Grenth reigns.

But isn’t Grenth only the human god of death and cold? Do all sentient creatures end up in the underworld? At least in GW1 I’ve never seen a non-human ghost there.

Edit: ok, newly dead souls only visit the underworld temporarily before going to their final destinations. What those destinations are I don’t know.

I think people lack faith in ANet, and assume that they’re stupid or something. It’s a company of ~300, who have been developing this for the past year at least (when it was confirmed that they hired their AI designer). You don’t think that one of them would have thought of this prior to announcing the expansion when immediately this was everyone’s first concern with the class? I guarantee you that ArenaNet not only solved this solution in their own way, but you’ll also be impressed when you see it implemented on launch.

Hahaha, how long have you been playing GW2? Looking at the last patches there are still some major screw-ups to be fixed. They’re gonna screw up the expansion BIG time! (and I’m still gonna buy it) The current ps wouldn’t even make sense if the world was pre-Zhaitan’s defeat.
We’ll just get to start our revenant in the same old starter-areas with the same old ps that still has the same old logical errors that were introduced with the NPE.

New leveling experience?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: BunjiKugashira.9754

BunjiKugashira.9754

I came to the conclusion that it makes sense if ANet wants to introduce any new profession.

The old way you would have countless full traited instant 80s running around leveled by tomes or crafting everytime you introduce a new profession. Which again would make the lower level zones dead areas.

With the new trait setup you have two choices. If you are a veteran player, sink tons of gold into your character to avoid the old content, or, if you are too poor or greedy, go back to the old zones.

It is a win/win situation for ANet, as there is either a massive goldsink or a higher population on lower level maps.

Unfortunately it feels like a lose/lose situation for the players, but this might have been a simple oversight by ANet. But it’s not their fault, the Metrix said so.

Yay, now if A-Net brings out a new class or race you have tons of instant 80s running around leveled by tomes or crafting without traits. They’re probably wearing some Full-Exo set from a dungeon and doing stuff in low-lvl areas to get their traits.

The low-lvl maps being filled with low-lvl characters is not going to happen again. Neither mega-servers nor trait-unlocks will change that.

A Data Driven Approach to Dungeon Rewards

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: BunjiKugashira.9754

BunjiKugashira.9754

Other Implementation Possibilities

The suggestion as presented assumes a week-by-week reward adjustment. There are several other ways that the idea could be implemented:

  1. Computed daily, taking into account the past week’s data. This is a smoother adjustment, creating the effect of a rolling average. The downside is that the “reward meta” is less likely to change as players are slow to “catch the wave” of good rewards.
  2. Computed weekly, taking into account the past 2-3 weeks’ data. Bumpier than the first, but gives more time for players to adjust the meta with popularity shifts.
  3. Computed daily or weekly, taking into account all data ever with a weighted average. This is a far more complex (and more demanding) way to run the numbers, but it leverages the full dataset. I think this would be complete overkill, but it’s a possibility.

I’d go for a daily computed adjustment that takes all data ever into account. It isn’t even that hard to implement.
You just take the data from yesterday with a 10% weighting and a saved value that represents all the days before that with a 90% weighting. That way the influence of one day dimishes slowly over time and adjustments are fast enough if fundamental changes happen, but slow enough to not feel bumpy while everything runs normal.

The influence of one day’s data over a course of 10 days (roundet to two digits after comma) would be as follows:
10% 9% 8.1% 7.29% 6.56% 5.90% 5.31% 4.78% 4.30% 3.87%

The code would be:
completionTime = (completionTime * 0.9) + (yesterday.getCompletionTime() * 0.1);
popularity = (popularity * 0.9) + (yesterday.getPopularity() * 0.1);

  • PvE – “Daily Squanderer”: Destroy a stack of 250 account bound items.

Now I want to see the achievement “Legendary squanderer” introduced. The reward for completing it would be a legendary weapon. ANet should refuse to confirm its existence and so it becomes a real measure of courage.

I’ve been destroying stacks of Bloodstone-Dust on a regular basis. It’s anything but a measure of courage.

Corpse camping has to stop

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: BunjiKugashira.9754

BunjiKugashira.9754

Wait, I’m confused. What part of the game is this post about: PvE, PvP or WvWvW?
Players can’t kill other player in PvE, so that’s out.
In PvP there’s a spawn where the enemies can’t enter → killing at spawn is impossible.
In WvWvW you can’t enter the enemie spawn either because of legendary defenders. Also the spawn has multiple exits, so camping them all requires quite the manpower.

And isn’t zerging single players or smaller groups a legitimate tactic? Why would A-Net do anything against that? And what does this have to do with camping corpses? Is there some secret way of standing up again after being defeatet that I don’t know about? Except of Revival-Orbs, which are way too expensive for repeated use.

Dungeon Instance Owner change FTW

BunjiKugashira.9754

Right now it seems like the only check for kicking someone out of the party is : is the number of votes equal to 2.

How hard is it to change that to is the number of votes have to reflect a minimum 50% in favor of kicking another member from the party?

I am assuming that this is “not easy” because the code is working with integers, how ever this is exactly what makes it easy to come up with a quick solution.

A possible solution to require a minimum of 50% in favor of kicking any party member could be based on a simple calculation such as :

members / 2 + members % 2 (modulus which is the left over after division by 2)

The problem is that the check for kicking someone is NOT “is the number of votes equal to 2”.

The current kicking-mechanics should be something like this:
Kick from party → Open votekick-panel and remember who initiated
Accept → Kick member from party

As you can see there is no counting being done. And that’s why changing it to 3 votes is no simple case of replacing a ‘2’ with a ‘3’ in code.

Please ANET fix Detha

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: BunjiKugashira.9754

BunjiKugashira.9754

Interesting stuff is: there are actually 2 bugs that can happen to Detha.
1. If Detha is still infight when starting her monologue she won’t build the traps. This can be debugged by killing Detha. Easyest way is for one player to sacrifice himself. Detha then tries to revive that player and dies in the process. Sometimes you have to kill the grastling that killed Detha afterwards, but that’s not always necessary to remove the bug.
2. If you wp to Kohlers waypoint immediately after killing the Grastling-Breeder then Detha won’t start her dialogue with the Ghost. This bug can’t be debugged once it happens. You can only protect yourself from it by staying at Detha’s side until she says that she collected enough bait.

You can easily tell witch bug you have. Did Detha talk to the ghost? Then it’s 1. If she didn’t then it’s 2.

It’s sad that GW2 is a game where you have to be constantly aware of it’s bugs and behave in a manner that prevents those bugs from happening. Most of the bugs in dungeons happen because the players are too fast. If you leave the npcs behind they will feel useless, go into a corner and eat glue. Be nice to the npcs and they will help you finish the dungeon.

How Do We Report Guild Puzzle Trolling?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: BunjiKugashira.9754

BunjiKugashira.9754

How do they know which guild puzzle you’re doing — or even that you’re doing one at all — if they aren’t in your guild anymore? Is a current member still feeding them this information? Sorry, I know that isn’t the point, but if you can keep them out of the loop on your guild’s activities then wouldn’t it solve your problems?

They know the time of the week we do them. There are only 3 puzzles to check.

If you have someone on your friendlist you can see where he is. So they don’t even have to check the puzzles. They just take a look at their friendlist and follow someone around whom they know of that he’s doing the guild-missions.

Someone in our guild has a stalker who uses this trick… -_-

Megaservers and RP

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: BunjiKugashira.9754

BunjiKugashira.9754

So my issue is as follows:
The Megaservers should prioritise the “home” servers more than anything. Currently, they do not. They sort people by guild and party correctly, but grab “fillers” from all over the place; different servers, different playstyles, different languages.

Since when do Megaservers sort correctly by guild? Are we somehow playing different games? Up to this day I didn’t have a SINGLE guild-mission where all of us ended up on the same map (about 30 people). We were all from the same server, representing the same guild and everyone has some of the other members on his friendlist.

Even when playing in smaller groups the problem is still present: Yesterday we were 6 people running around in 2 groups. Everyone in the same guild, on the same server, having the others on his fl and we still ended up on different maps.

At least the groups don’t get split anymore. If I run a dungeon with random ppl from all over the world we can be sure that everyone is on the same map after leaving the dungeon to start the next path…

Why does the GW2 Playerbase ignore orders?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: BunjiKugashira.9754

BunjiKugashira.9754

Lol, so much hate against commanders…
What sounds like a barked command is often the desperate try to move everyone out of a dangerous situation or finishing a boss before the timer runs out while the commander himself is facetanking the champ in full berser gear. Obviously the messages tend to be short, sometimes contain typos and sound a bit harsh.

When you see someone picking up a keg try to tell him why he shouldn’t pick that up and what pros and cons this decision has for him and the rest of the zerg. And do that in the 0.5 seconds it takes him to ruin the event! And btw dodge that attack and cast your spells at the same time…

I only recently got a commander-tag and started commanding our weekly raid on Balthasar-Temple. Luckily that’s a pretty easy event to lead and even has a chance to succeed without a commander. After all I’m still a commander in training. It usually takes one good wipe of the whole zerk for everyone to wake up and realise that the stuff I write in the chat actually makes sense. Of course we could do the event in one try if everyone follows the suggestions, but that would be too easy.

Now there are a lot of events like Worm or Marionette that you can’t just fail and retry once everyone woke up. It has to work out first try or else you have to wait 2 hours and instruct a new zerk. Whenever I see someone commanding such an event I follow each and every command without question. You can still blame the commander if the event fails even though everyone followed, right?

Up to this day I’ve never seen a commander on my server that tryed to fail an event. They always try their best to make the event succeed, make everyone get their loot and be a good commander. Sometimes it sounds harsh, but who cares?

Contrary to PvE there are some seriously bad commanders in WvW. Running around aimlessly, not finishing anything they start and then being overrun by the enemy zerk. I even had one jumping down a cliff and dying. The whole zerk of 40 people jumped right after him just like the lemmings…

You can find out wether a commander is good or bad simply by following his orders for some time. But you have to give new commanders such a chance or else they will be playing only with their guildmates. All that’s left then are idiots that like to boss people around.

As a finishing touch I’d like to encourage everyone to try commanding once in a while. If you think you know what makes a good commander, then pick an easy event that requires some cooperation and often fails or is difficult without a commander and lead everyone to victory. I can assure you that it’s a good feeling to be thanked for leading and some players might even ask wether you intend to lead them again sometime.
