@mercury ranique: If someone should gain access to my computer I have a way bigger problem than a compromised game-account. The only step left then is to completely delete everything, format the hard drive and reinstall the operating system.

The most common cause of compromised accounts is not hackers gaining access to PCs, but people using the same username and passwort that they use for the game on some shady websites. Or the hackers just randomly trying out passwords. Actually hacking a PC is a lot more work than simply stealing or guessing passwords from people. Especially if you have a website that offers gamerelated stuff and requires people to create an account the hackers don’t have to do anything besides using the data people give them.

I’ll just add a little clarification just in case, because I have noticed that some people do not know what SMS is.

SMS is the very basic text message that is a basic function in every mobile phone.

True but apparently not all players want to have a mobile phone.

And, of course, you need no mobile phone to use the SMS option, as you can specify voice for landlines.

Not all landline nets are capable of sending/recieving sms over landlines. Also not all phones for landlines are capable of sending/recieving sms.

So if this is made something that is required of all users, they should add a third option.

An easy and reletive cheap system is where you recieve a phonecall and an automated voice reads your code out loud.

I do agree that two way authentification is needed and important, but it has to be in such a way that everyone can use it

You do know that you can use the Authenticator for two way authentification? And you can use WinAuth for that. WinAuth runs on any Windows-Computer. And now don’t tell me someone who’s playing GW2 might not have a Computer…

BunjiKugashira.9754

What vendor are you talking about? You should have aquired the cultivated seed by turning a mysterious sprout into a mysterious vine. The complete track is:

Mysterious Seed → Myst Seedling → Myst Sprout → Myst Vine + Cultivated Seed
Cultivated Seed → Cult Seedling → Cult Sprout → Cult Shoot → Cult Vine + Pet Seed
Pet Seed → Pet Seedling → Pet Sprout → Pet Shoot → Pet Plantling → Mawdrey + Mawdrey II

Ok, apparently there was a bug where the Cultivated Seed was wrongly turned into a bugged version of the Pet Seed. This bugged Pet Seed can be traded for a Cultivated Seed at a vendor.

What is the reason there is no trade system?

There is a trade system. Just talk to a Black Lion Merchant and you can trade items with other players via the trading post.

If your question is why there is no direct player to player trading, that’s a different question! The reason for that are the scammers that confused players in GW1 with high- and low-price items that share a similar icon and/or name. And suddenly you bought the cheap item for the price of the expensive one.

The Truth About the Berserker Meta

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: BunjiKugashira.9754

BunjiKugashira.9754

There is a person who posted this in relation to his post, which I think sums up pretty well his video. He was answering to people saying the video was about necro vs warrior, or zerker being bad.

That wasn’t the point of the video, it’s about how this meta of 3 classes 5 professions designed to carry ice bows to a boss and four ice bows to kill the boss in 5 seconds 20 seconds renders any most dps and defensive measurement pointless since the ice bows do so much more damage then any player could hope to achieve.

I agree, but here some fix. The under 10 seconds boss kill isn’t a meta or icebow problem. It’s a underlevel dungoen and bad scaling problem.

Fractals 50 certainly isn’t underlevel and still the Molten Duo’s Berserker usually dies before he even touches the ground.

This is bad news to me. I hate the authenticator, it makes me reverify my account every time, even with the remember this network due to me having a dynamic IP. Its really annoying and now there no avoiding it.

Are you not on an always on internet connection? It is highly unusual for isps to have such a short lease on an IP address for their customers for always on internet. Who is your ISP?

No, in Germany and most european countries it’s common that the ip changes every 24 hours. The router will loose it’s connection (mostly around 2 or 3 in the morning) and reconnect with a new IP address. This is to ensure privacy. No person can be identified just by knowing their IP address (except if the police forces the provider to hand out the information).

I’ve always used 3-factor-authentification and can only recommend it. When I had e-mail authentification I once got an e-mail that someone was trying to log in from china. That moment I knew that my password had been hacked (and I changed it immediately). Of course they didn’t know the password for my e-mail account and thus my GW2 account was safe. Nowadays I use the authenticator because it’s easier.

It’s sad that ANet has to force players to use the 3-factor authentification. Everyone who values their account should gladly use the extra security that ANet offers us and recommend to other players to do the same.

kitten , I found an error. Of course the 7% from ferocious winds is added to ferocity and not directly to crit-damage. That reduces it’s effect significantly and shifts the whole balance towards power. The reworked formula is:

max ((5017 – x + 30 * 25) * (1 + ((x – 916) / 21 + 20) * ((1130 + 7 /100 * x) / 15) / 10000))=2054.0

That makes 2054.0 precision and 5017-2054.0=2963.0 power. Ok, pure Bersi is better. ^^

a fix for stacking

Lol, there isn’t even a reason to “stack” ( think you mean LoS ) on bosses anymore ( check the world records from the past year ). That was like close to a year ago. This doesn’t show anything except the fact the OP is way out of touch with dungeons.

Nope, stacking simply means all players standing on each others feet. You don’t need a corner for that. Nowadays you simply stack right where the boss stands.

a fix for stacking

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: BunjiKugashira.9754

BunjiKugashira.9754

First of all let’s look at the different scenarios that you’ve put together in one bag: Stacking in a corner, stacking on a boss and stacking on a safe-spot.

Using safe-spots (spots where the boss can’t hit you) is actually bugusing and therefore forbidden. Still the best course of action would be to remove those safe-spots from the game. Add a boulder or some other kind of obstacle and it’s done.

Stacking in a corner is usually done to lure groups of enemies on one spot. The only reason why this works is because of the horrible AI. Rework the AI, so that melees use their defensive abilities before engaging and ranged mobs walk in an arc around the corner, always keeping their distance, and the problem is solved. It’s really as simple as that.

Stacking on a boss is for boonsharing. Actually there is no reason to directly stack on top of each other as long as everyone is in range for the buffs. Some kind of visual indicator for the range of buffs (be it from combos or other buffs) would be nice, so that players see what’s the range they can move in and get used to it.

Sorry, but that’s false…
i haven’t checked everything but:
max critchance = 100, so max useful precission = 100 * 21 + 916 = 3016
if you take in account, that you will have furry (eles should always have furry) = 80 * 21 + 916 = 2596 (that’s pretty close to full assasin)
then your group has a Warrior with Banner of Discipline 2596-170 = 2426
and a Ranger with Spotter 2426 – 150 = 2276

The 100% mark is something I’ve mentioned. That’s why I said the optimum is going as close to 100% (with buffs) as possible. I’ve very rarely seen a ranger in my groups, let alone one with spotter. And the banner seems to be forgotten, too, so I completely forgot to calculate with those in mind. Thanks for the reminder.

Since spotter is such a rare sight in groups I’d say go for 2426 precision.

Power vs Crit?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: BunjiKugashira.9754

BunjiKugashira.9754

First of all there is no dimishing returns for power, precision or ferocity. Critchance scales linearly with precision and critdamage scales linearly with ferocity. Since the damage is a product (not sum) of these values, you get a curve that has a highest point somewhere with the best dps. I just did the calculations for ele and came to the conclusion that Assassins is better than Bersi.

Where might a person see these calculations and your suggested layout?

Bersi or Assassin? Maths!

in Elementalist

Posted by: BunjiKugashira.9754

BunjiKugashira.9754

Hi, I’ve always wondered how much power and precision you’d need for the highest possible dps. Since there are some rumors floating around I’ve decided to calculate it myself and share my results here.

The builds I’m comparing can be seen here:
Bersi
Assassin

Warning! Contains Maths!

Critchance cc = (precision – 916) / 21 Source
Critdamage cd = ferocity / 15 Source
Power p = base
Multiplyer x = ability specific factor + sigill of night + sigill of force + scholars + …

Average damage per hit:
x * (p + p * cc / 100 * cd / 100)
= x * p * (1 + cc * cd / 10000)

Now let’s add 25 might and fury:
x * (p + 30 * 25) * (1 + (cc + 20) * cd / 10000)

Next add the 7% ferocity gained from ferocious winds:
x * (p + 30 * 25) * (1 + (cc + 20) * (cd + 7 /100 * precision) / 10000)

Replace cc and cd with their respective formulas:
x * (power + 30 * 25) * (1 + ((precision – 916) / 21 + 20) * (ferocity / 15 + 7 /100 * precision) / 10000)

According to the build-calculator the values for power, precision and ferocity (with ferocious winds deselected since we’re calculating that manually here) are:
Bersi:
- 2877 power
- 2140 precision
- 1130 ferocity
- 5017 power + precision
Assassin:
- 2439 power
- 2578 precision
- 1130 ferocity
- 5017 power + precision
For all combinations of Bersi- and Assassin-gear constant:
- 1130 ferocity
- 5017 power + precision

Now calculate the perfect ratio of power to precision with x being precision and 5017 – x being power:
max ((5017 – x + 30 * 25) * (1 + ((x – 916) / 21 + 20) * (1130 / 15 + 7 /100 * x) / 10000))=3540.7
The perfect ratio for maximum dps would be 3540.7 precision to 1476.3 power. Even the full Assassin build can’t reach those numbers and has more power and less precision than desired. Another problem is that this calculation doesn’t stop at 100% critchance. Keeping in mind that GW2 doesn’t have the concept of double crits, the optimal setup would be to get as close as possible to 100% critchance. The Assassin build does exactly that.

But how much more dps does the Assassin build do compared to the Bersi build? Let’s just enter the numbers and find out:
Bersi: x * (2877 + 30 * 25) * (1 + ((2140 – 916) / 21 + 20) * (1130 / 15 + 7 /100 * 2140) / 10000) = x * 10019.5
Assassin: x * (2439 + 30 * 25) * (1 + ((2578 – 916) / 21 + 20) * (1130 / 15 + 7 /100 * 2578) / 10000) = x * 11276.3
Assassin / Bersi = 11276.3 / 10019.5 = 1.125
The Assassin build deals on average 12.5% more damage per hit.

Edit: I found an error in my calculations. Look a few posts below for the updated results.

Outfits vs Armor Skins

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: BunjiKugashira.9754

BunjiKugashira.9754

  1. An armor skin can only be used by 1/3 of all characters because armor is divided into light, medium and heavy. Thus to make armor skins for every class ANet has to make 3 skins, which is 3 times the work.
  2. Armor skins can be mixed with other armor skins for a more unique look. That’s why people love them and want mor armor skins (didn’t get any new in a long time).
  1. Outfits fit every character and thus ANet has to make only one to reach every character.
  2. ANet doesn’t have to pay attention to where to separate pieces into chest- or leg-armor since outfits are one piece (There are also armor skins that are not separated, for example Flame Legion Female, so this argument is kinda bad)
  3. Using outfits doesn’t use transmutation charges, which is the main reason why you’d use an outfit for alts.

Suggestion: Solving the DC problem

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: BunjiKugashira.9754

BunjiKugashira.9754

1)…

  • When you do come back in and the map is full, what que do you want the game to put you into?
If you are at a big boss event, there is a likelyhood that the map will be full. Now if you go into a que for the map that you just left, chances are that when you get back in it will be because the boss is dead and everyone is leaving. I have had this happen with Claw and Teq and there is no chests cause you are not there upon death. Now I guess the game might give you credit for the kill even though you were not there to issue the final blow but then how long does it grant you that? For a certain amount of time after death, or for a certain amount of time after the chest goes away, or for a certain amount of time after the people leave and you get back into the map.
The other option would be to put you back on an active boss map instead, that way at least you have a chance to kill the boss. However it could put you on an active map that has no chance in completing.

Sometimes even the seemingly simple solutions are unfortunately not so simple.

The map being full is one of the problems this is supposed to solve. As long as you’re on the grace-period your spot on the map is not given to anyone else, so you can relog into the same ip even though the map is full for other players.

Not being able to rebuild my old build was never a problem for me. I knew from the beginning, that rebuilding old stuff could only be suboptimal compared to creating a new build from scratch in the new system. So I went for that.

The biggest problem for the new system is opportunity-cost. Adept-, Master- and Grandmaster-Traits cost exactly the same (They require you to pick the traitline). Also all three minor traits cost exactly the same and might as well be called passive effects of picking that traitline. What’s even the point in separating them into three different minor traits at all, except making the arcing line longer?

the new trait system is bad . shame they wont fix it and make it so you can change your skills out and in . to what you want and need to use for what you are going for.

I don’t get this. You can change the traits and skill any time you want to adapt to any situation.

iam not supersized at all you do not get this concept at all . but putting it like that yes and you could even do it if you was out side of a town . and not have to wait to do it. with a skill build loading system . where you safe your skill sets and you can load them when and where ever you need them . and you do not have to be in town to load them . bet that blows your kitten marbles out of the water huh LOL :P

I can change my skills and traits at any point I want even during a dungeon run, in fact when I’m doing dungeons on my Thief I might change my build 5-7 times. I don’t have to wait and I don’t have to be in town. Maybe you are talking about another game?

no you just think you can but you can not do that at all in this game. as it is impossible the way the game is set up now . to use necro or monk skills if your a warrior or thief . it just does not happen . sounds more like your thinking way to hard . you just do not get it . that is plain and clear . go play gw1 and then maybe you just might get it . but i doubt it .

kitten did I read?

You do know that you’re on the GW2-forum and not on the GW1-forum? Because in GW2 it’s impossible for a class to use the skills of another class. Also GW2 doesn’t have Monks (and GW1 doesn’t have Thiefs, which makes your post even more confusing). What game are you talking about?

100% Fury-uptime, perma-fire-field, Great aoe-damage, aoe-blind or vuln – 2xEle

Stealth, portals, reflects and ofc time warp – Mesmer (can replace Thief)
Tons of vuln, Great dps and combo-fields – Engi (can replace 1 Ele)

A pet that most people don’t seem capable of controlling and the tendency to stay out of range for all group-buffs – Ranger
Ok, let’s assume the Ranger knows what he does: 7.5% extra group-dps from fs and some extra precision – Ranger
Some vuln and boon-stripping (which is only useful in some niche-situations) – Necro

Sadly Ranger and Necro don’t really bring anything to the table that another class can’t do better.

BunjiKugashira.9754

I wouldn’t. I liked the system in GW1 where every class had it’s own armor-design. In GW2 this system is more loose. Here the skins are only divided into heavy, medium and light armor. Still, most of the time it gives each class a characteristical look (there are exceptions for example when a mesmer looks like a nekro etc).

I already heavily dislike the non-costume outfits, since they destroy a part of the class’s identity. Still they aren’t too popular and I still have the option to outfit my character in something that clearly categorizes him/her as heavy/med/light.

If the concept of heavy/med/light armor-skins ever gets scrapped I’ll most likely stop playing. At least until it’s reintroduced.

New to the game but feels unfinished

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

While I agree that the game feels unfinished, I see the unfinished parts elsewhere:

  1. Minigames are unfinished. Neither the shooting-booth in DR, nor the Polymock-Arena in Rata Sum are finished.
  2. Underwater content is unfinished. Many skills don’t have an underwater version and the choice in underwater weapons is so small that it often doesn’t exist at all.
  3. Many Hearts don’t work, are severely bugged or lack alternative options for progression when there are no enemies (Remember the heart where you have to catch barrels? How many did you ever catch?)
  4. Crafting once was finished. With the introduction of ascended crafting we’re still waiting for cook and jeweler to raise the cap to 500 and introduce some ascended jewelery and bufffood. No culinary application for bloodstone dust, he says. I'll show him. This bloodstone dust pot pie is already the talk of Tyria! Would you care to try it? (Sous-Chef Seimur Oxbone)

where is my gw2 vanilla code?

You get only one code that activates HoT on an existing account OR creates a new account with GW2 Basegame + HoT.

Please give tempest a damage modifier

in Elementalist

Posted by: BunjiKugashira.9754

BunjiKugashira.9754

In PvE tempest has to compete with fire, air, water and arcane.

  1. Fire gives a 10% dmg boost while attuned to fire and a 10% dmg boost against burning targets
  2. Air gives a huge boost to ferocity and a 20% dmg boost against targets below 50% health resulting in an average 10% boost
  3. Water gives a 10% dmg boost if health is over 90% + a 20% boost while attuned to water and the enemy has vulnerability
  4. Arcane gives a 2% boost for each boon that’s currently active resulting in an average boost of 6%-8%. While this is the lowest boost, arcane gives a lot of utility for a wider range of boons and is more forgiving because of an automatic arcane shield

If tempest aims for a place in the meta it needs to be at least as strong as water. This means that either overcharges and wh skills are 15% stronger than regular elementalist skills or that the tempest traitline gets a dmg modifyer.

[Suggestion] UI Overhaul

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: BunjiKugashira.9754

BunjiKugashira.9754

I know this has been asked before and I won’t be the last one to ask for a ui overhaul.

Customizability:
Make the UI as customizable as it was in GW1. This means make an editor-mode that allows to move all the UI-elements around. The settings should be saved to hard-drive so you don’t have to modify the UI every time you log in.

Auto Hide:
Make currently unused parts of the UI hide until they’re needed or the user moves the mouse over where they should be. For example hide skills as long as all skills are off cooldown and hide the health bar as long as it’s full. Hide the exp bar for all characters over lvl 80 and hide the achievement + personal story panel until the user moves mouse there.

Size:
Make another option (large, medium, small, smaller) because even the small version is still too big. Or even better: Make a slider that can make the UI incredibly big or small. However best would be to make each UI element scalable independently using the editor-mode that was suggested for customizability.

Can we re-fix Wings, please?

On topic of wings, I’d appreciate a checkbox in the options to hide all wing type back items… I’m sure plenty of you like them, but for me, they are an eyesore, floppy or stiff.

Are you kidding? It’s great! In PvP and WvW it’s like having a bunch of players with big white/black targets on their backs.

Let me guess… They’re max size Norn or Charr? And that’s why you’re wasting all your skills on tanks. ;D

Hair physics? Not even hair is that flowy! Those wings must be made of hot air wrapped in silk and just maybe a tiny little bit stuffed with fluffy cotton at some places.

I liked the cardboard version better. Those wings had a sturdy frame that wouldn’t break just from turning around too fast.

So why wasn't Ice Bow nerfed anyway?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: BunjiKugashira.9754

BunjiKugashira.9754

The earth shield is a purely defensive weapon and can pretty much only be used to tank Mai Trin when standing in the electro-field. At least that’s the only place where I use it. Flame axe is even more useless than earth shield since there isn’t a single fight where it brings something useful. Lightning hammer is nice for the extra precision and ferocity, but apart from skill 1 it doesn’t have any decent attack-skills to complement those stats.

Ice bow pretty much is the only conjure worth a utility slot since damage is always useful and the freeze is the best cc you can achieve. Remove the freeze’s usefulnes with upcoming defiance bars (there are other more spammable ccs with less risk to reduce a bar) and the 4 will be the only truly strong skill on ice bow. And it’ll compete with meteor shower, glyph of storms and probably some new tempest skills.

Those are never her fingers. First of all I can clearly see a fist / grabbing hand in the picture (right below the marked part) and secondly her fingers would be as long as her forearm and really weirdly twisted.

Birthdays coming up!

They better not give us another useless level 20 scroll that doesn’t even stack with the previous year one.

I had this problem, of several account-bound items in my bank that wouldn’t stack with each other until someone in my guild FINALLY clued me in on how to fix it.

Some of them should say account-bound, the others should say account-bound on acquire. Put them both in your inventory and change maps. Fixed, they stack now.

While this works for items that were made unstackable by a bug, this doesn’t work for the year 1 and year 2 scrolls. They both have the text “account bound”. In fact they’re completely identical in picture, functionality and text.

Since Anet failed to introduce new dungeons more and more players did dungeonpaths very often, get better and start to be more picky. After having done a dungeon like 100 times many players just want to finish the dungeon quick and are not willing to spend more time then necessary in it.

At that point I always wonder why people even bother still playing at all.
If my mentality in a game ever gets to a point like: “I just want to get this over with as fast as possible”, I’d question whether I was even really enjoying my time with the game. This is supposed to be entertainment, not work.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m just talking about myself specifically. Different people have different tastes.

Anyway, I tend to enjoy joining parties for people doing dungeons for their 1st time. They are the most enjoyable and fun parties, for me.

For most players it’s either “how many dungeons can I finish during the 3 hours I can play” or “I need some gold for the stuff I really want to do”. There are many reasons why you want to complete a dungeon as fast as possible. Disliking dungeons is not one of them.

How about us Tankers and Healers? :(

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

BunjiKugashira.9754

… This isn’t the only issue. Due to everyone being able to do everything, there isn’t a clear understanding of what everyone is capable of in a party and hence it’s almost impossible to coordinate and work together. Hence the full damage meta since killing everything instantly rallies everybody anyways and nobody gives a dime whether or not you’re down. …

Uhm, I think you misunderstood the meta. It’s about using active defenses like reflect, blind, etc to take no damage at all. Since those active defenses are not bound to any gear-stats you might as well gear for full damage. Also the active defenses don’t hold forever, so the foes need to be dead before defenses run out. If I took any damage and went below 90% health I’d deal 20% less dps (traits + scholar runes).

The only fight where I change my gear to something else than full damage is Mai Trin, since dps doesn’t mean anything to her as long as she still has stacks.

Btw: Silverwastes on a full zerker ele is really fun. You need to know each mob, their attack patterns and always keep an eye on your surroundings. Thrashers are the most dangerous since they launch small vines from the ground that instantly hit you no matter how you move. This can be avoided by going melee against the attacking Thrasher. Teragryphs are dangerous because if their charge attack hits you, you’re most likely dead. Still the attack is really obvious and easy to dodge. Also if you bind them they’ll fail their charge and fall over for free dps. Wolves need to be ranged and only get dangerous in groups.
