Running without an elite?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: BunjiKugashira.9754

BunjiKugashira.9754

If any of you plan on doing a raid, you can bet you WILL be running the Elite, there is no way Anet is going to spend all this time promoting these new Elite Specs for them to sit idle and unused, they will make content that forces you to use the Elite or you wont get past it,

It may not be in the first few raids, but by this time next year it will be near mandatory to run the Elite.

The only one that I will even look at will be the Mesmer, and that’s only for sPvP, everything else just looks boring to me, I Main was a necro and the Elite spec was horrible I hated it.

And how are they going to do that? Create a mechanic that forces you to activate the elite class mechanic on a platform to open a door? Some of the elite specialisations are so bad at combat that it’s impossible to create an enemy that is easier to defeate while using it.

Apart from one or two elite specialisations that I want to try (read as test different builds and dump it if it doesn’t work out) I’m not going to use the new elite specialisations.

While it is problematic to allow Races to sit on chairs that are scattered in the world (as stated by the devs), there is a different possibility:
Think of the chair as a toy (like the broom or carpet) that can be bought in the gemshop. By double clicking it in the inventory the character takes out a race-specific chair (no problems because of different sizes) and sits down on it.

The same could be made with beds, books and lots of other stuff.

I find it funny how IB being op in PvE didn’t bother ANet for 3 years and now that raids are coming ANet suddenly nerfs it.

My guess is that, thanks to raids being a thing, we’ll see some more balance patches for PvE in the future. How about nerfing wall of reflection next? Or making shadow refuge deal 1 point of damage in it’s area, so that it becomes impossible to stealth while surrounded by enemies? We could also replace the phalanx strength trait with something “more engaging”.

While this may sound exaggerated, those are very possible nerfs to bring those skills and traits in line with other skills and traits to promote build diversity.

DEEP SALVAGE: Underwater Combat

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: BunjiKugashira.9754

BunjiKugashira.9754

I don’t doubt that a single weapon set can be very “active” with the changes you proposed, however depending on the player’s personal style, he wants a weapon that deals direct damage or condition damage, controls enemies or boosts allies, has it’s focus on single target or aoe, is melee or ranged. There are so many possible combinations that you can make a single weapon either a jack of all trades, master of none, or you make the weapon only viable for a very limited amount of playstiles. And that’s why we need more underwater weapons, so that every playstile has a weapon.

From what I saw from your rebalanced skills, most of the weapons are only viable for a single playstile. The player either has to adapt to that playstile, which forces him to also adapt their overwater build, or he has to play with a weapon that he effectively can’t use.

Simply rebalancing the existing skills won’t help underwater combat and reducing the number of weapon choices will make underwater combat even worse.

I still have my doubts about the berserker meta not being the fastest way to clear a raid. We will see once raids are actually released, but seeing as there is literally not a single enemy currently in the game that isn’t fastest killed by a full offense group (husks being the only exception from berserker since they require sinister), I just don’t see what the devs base their assumption on.

Well, just in case I’ll take my celestial armor with me.

DEEP SALVAGE: Underwater Combat

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: BunjiKugashira.9754

BunjiKugashira.9754

*Base movement speed while underwater increased by 25%

Why would you move underwater faster than on land? Underwater-movement is already sufficiently fast. It just doesn’t feel like it because you have no ground immediately under your feet to measure your traveling distance.

*Players can now finish downed opponents while underwater.

This would require to remove the option to move while downed because currently anyone can just swim away from the enemy that’s about to finish him.

*Professions now only have access to a single underwater weapon.

And this makes underwatercombat more engaging for what reason? If anything we need more, not less underwater weapons. Being forced to take specific weapons shoehorns the player into a build that he/she doesn’t want to play or isn’t traited and equipped for.

*The weapon swap button remains on classes that have it solely as a button to trigger sigils (as if that’s not already its main purpose most days anyway).

Nope, it isn’t.

I’m sorry to tell you, but I completely disagree with the changes you proposed.
——————————————————————————————
What would make underwater combat and exploring better from my point of view:

  • More underwater weapons (including 1h weapons) so that we actually have a choice what to play underwater.
  • Traits and equipment independent from the land build. Instead of using traits that don’t support the underwater weapon or even don’t work at all underwater, we need a seperate underwater build.
  • More underwater skills. For starters ANet could make underwater versions of the skills that currently aren’t usable underwater. Most (if not all) classes only have a single underwater usable elite skill. This needs to change.
  • Don’t make underwater areas too crowded with enemies. ANet already reduced the amount of underwater enemies in some areas, but there are still areas that have way more mobs than an average player can handle.
  • Add cosmetic options for underwater. While this may seem unimportant or even useless, GW2 is all about skins. If a player has some nice underwater skins he/she is more likely to go underwater and try the new stuff.

AC bugs - and how to prevent them

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: BunjiKugashira.9754

BunjiKugashira.9754

Since ascalonian catacombs are a bugridden mess, I thought I’d list the dungeon breaking bugs that I know of and how to prevent them. All of these bugs will (if encountered) force you to completely restart the dungeon. There is no way to fix the path after encountering the bug.

I have encountered all of these bugs myself and confirmed the triggers in some duo-runs.

P1 The endboss does not spawn
This bug is triggered if, after collecting the sceptre-pieces, someone crosses the grastling tunnels before the event spawns that tells you to do so. In this case the event “Explore the graveling tunnels” can no longer be completed. The boss spawns only after it is completed.

Fix: Only enter the tunnels after the event spawned.

P2 Detha does not talk to the Ghost and does not build the traps
This bug is triggered if, after killing the grastling breeder in the room with the spike-traps, everyone ports to Kholer’s waypoint before Detha says her sentence.

If all players are too far away from an NPC, the NPC will teleport after them. This mechanic sometimes triggers even though the NPC still has something to do (in this case say a sentence). Forcefully removing an NPC from a location where he/she needs to perform a task will make them unable to complete that task (even if you revisit that place with them). Since the dungeons are linear, the NPC can only start his/her next task (in this case talking to the ghost) after the current task has been completed.

Fix: One person has to stay with Detha in the spike-trap room until she says her sentence.

P3 The path to the endboss does not open
This bug is triggered if, after destroying the 4 big grastling-burrows in the great hall, all players port to the new waypoint and at least one NPC was still at the beginning of the great hall. In this case the NPC is ported before he can start his dialogue, which prevents the dungeon from progressing (s. P2 Detha).

Fix: One person has to stay in the hall (you are free to loot the chest in the meantime) until both NPCs have said something.

P2 Detha does not build the traps after talking to the Ghost
This bug has been fixed. There is no more need to make Detha go out of combat before starting her dialogue with the ghost. I thought I’d include this since making Detha go ooc is still done by many many pugs.

Fix: ANet fixed it.

How Arenanet can stop/decrease gold sellers

Introducing a chat-filter will make goldsellers weary and make it more difficult to identify their spambots.

I’d bet ANet already has some kind of filter in place to identify goldsellers. Due to not blocking their messages the goldsellers are completely in the dark as to what keywords ANet uses, so they can’t write around them.

What part of the game is this about? Since it says new players maybe leveling and open world?

In that case I recently started playing engineer and I find it really easy. You just put down a few towers and wait for the hearts to finish themselves. No skill required.

As for elementalist: Once you have the glyph of elementals, leveling becomes a lot easyer.

I know that you won’t be playing these builds once you hit lvl 80 and get some gear, but for the leveling-phase they provide a both efficient and forgiving playstyle.

With 14% precision to ferocity in Berserker mode
You want to have 1891 precision and 2570 power for max damage.

[Suggestion] Remove first person view

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

BunjiKugashira.9754

Already did that, and in fact I already said that I’m trying to adjust my mouse with each patch – a) it takes a lot of time, b) people are calling me crazy because my way to move in this game seems to be pretty unique, c) I can’t turn the speed up much more because it’s pretty much maxed out already – but now I miss the stuff I want to hit.

I don’t know of any patch which changed the camera in general, might be true, but still my problems started 1-2 weeks after the introduction of 1. person view and yesterday I noticed that on the one hand the camera improved as it would move back slightly after adjusting the character with right mouse click, which it doesn’t anymore, but I can’t get to the angle I want anymore – after some hours of testing I read that changes had been made to 1. person view- so I’m pretty certain that it correlates.

You said you were adjusting your mouse, which indicates the speed that the mouse-cursor moves with. I just told you how to adjust the speed that the camera moves with, without altering the speed of the mouse-cursor.

The patch that completely overhauled the camera system and introduced the camera-sliders was around the same time they introduced first person view. Or was it the same patch? I don’t remember.

I guess the changes you mentioned that make you feel your “movement is restricted” were the changes to the camera in general. The first person view has nothing to do with how fast your camera turns, however in the big camera patch they introduced some new camera sliders. One of those sliders is called Rotationspeed. If you feel your camera rotates too slow just move the slider more to the right.

Gw2 in 3d nvidia surround/eyefinity

BunjiKugashira.9754

havent played in 3d in a while so I dont know if any recent patch broke anything all I can tell you is when I played a while ago it was an amazing experience.

Reason being Anet actually fixed a lot of issue generally games have with stereoscopic.

Things like mob names. In other games they’re generally 2d elements which in 3d would render on top of everything else, in Gw2 these are rendered at characters depth. Even the mouse cursor (which again generally is rendered on a 2d plan) is rendered in 3d at the depth of the terrain thats under it.

3d is really top notch .. would be a bummer if a patch broke it.

The problem is that those features are only available if you activate 3-D-Rendering, which is only available for NVidia users. Why don’t they allow AMD users to use those features too?

And the thing that was actually broken for about half a year was shadows and ground fx. Every ground-targeted effect was out of depth. I’m really glad that they fixed that.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: BunjiKugashira.9754

BunjiKugashira.9754

-Is it really adding to your overall experience?
Yes it is. Choosing the right food for each situation (especially the dungeon tonics) is the first step when preparing for battle. You don’t just rush in heads first, you actually look what kind of obstacles you’ll have to expect and prepare for it.

-Does it make things too easy?
No, there are other things making the game too easy. Food only really matters in speedruns where you want those extra 10% dps to finish a minute faster.

-Do I always use it? Why?
Not always. If the mobs die before I’m halfway through my damage-rotation then food would be wasted.

-Do I usually win 1v1 fights against those who don’t use it?
No, since I don’t play WvW.

-Do I craft my own for fun? Or just buy it off the TP?
I’m not using the best food there is because it’s too expensive. The food I’m using is mostly crafted by people leveling their chef, so I can easily buy it off the tp. The nourishments I buy directly from the dungeon vendor for tokens.

-Do I offer it to other people when I see them without it? Why?
In Arah and Aetherpath always. In other dungeons sometimes. It depends on wether the path takes long enough for the potion to actually show an effect.

On top of that I’d like a right-klick drop-down menue where you can choose under which conditions this ui-element should be visible (always, when something changed for 5 seconds, when weapon drawn, when infight, never). For example I don’t need the health-bar to clutter my screen as long as it’s full. I know how much max-hp I have. Make it auto-hide just like it does in Skyrim.

Dream Build Diversity

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: BunjiKugashira.9754

BunjiKugashira.9754

@ Captain…
the huge impossible balancing came mainly from GW1s Skill System, not really from the amount of Skills. The problem wasn’t the amount of skills, but the terrible skill system that allowed to have a skill bar completely mixed of skills and the silly two class system, which led only always into countless of unwanted chain reactions, whenever Anet changed something on the skill balance, because due to all the lots of possible class and skill combination possibilities that no one at Anet could ever know how it would maybe end up after their changes in an overpowered form.
That’s the reason why they didn’t give GW2 in the first place again that dumb two class system and reduced just simply the chances of unwanted chain reactions.
The next step was just to limit the skill bar with Weapon Skills and fix Utility Skill Slots.
The drastic reducing of the amount of Skills was practically unneccessary.
The Game would also be balanceable, if all Classes would get more Utility Skills, as long as Anet keeps the Weapon Skill System and limits our Skill Bar to 3 Utilities.
As long this is ensured, will increasing the total amount of utilities skills lead then only to an increased Build Diversity.

@ Lord..

Come on..please Mesmer Territory.. thats an invalid argument, when you consider, how much Mesmers already butchered around in THIEF TERRITORY to the point, that they practically already outclass Thieves by now in nearly everything!
By Efficiency in regard of Stuns ect. i meant, that they would last longer.
So a Stun, that for example would last normally 1,5 seconds would last with this Skill in your Bar then instead 2,1 seconds practically

I quite like GW1’s skill system. It’s a build-crafter heaven where you can literally spend days working out new builds that either work by themselves or require everyone in the group to run a certain build.

You forgot another aspect that makes GW1’s skill system a pain to balance: Skills that directly affect the efficiency of another skill. GW2 reduced the interaction between skills strictly to a small number of buffs and conditions. That’s why, coming from GW1, it feels like there is hardly any symbiosis not only between skills within a class, but also between different classes.

It does not matter how many new skills you introduce to GW2. In the end each skill will be self-sufficient and barely bring anything new to the table. Just to prevent the balancing-madness that comes from skills affecting other skills.

- About the measly rewards: Anything in this game can be turned into coin. And that coin barely gets spent on anything because currently there is nothing to spend it on. As long as there are no items that people want to spend gold on, the gold just keeps on piling.

So, about the event.

Just calculate your farm without the first day’s blooms and you’re safe. If you get blooms for the first day just spend them on whatever.

Some sylvari may have stayed strong through the first call, but all sylvari are vulnerable and could still succumb to Mordremoth’s influence.

Traherne? Is that you?

Why do the dragons have minions?

Because they suck at multi tasking.

Pretty much this. Zhaitan specifically had minions responsible for gathering and eating (the Mouth) magical artefacts. The more mouths and minions the more items can be gathered and eaten. The more eyes the more magical artefacts you can find etc.
But other than that, having an army to do your bidding is safer (the ED doesn’t go out and risk themselves), and it seems that every time the EDs wake up there’s a new host of races that they need to conquer / defeat. Last time was the Dwarves, Jotun, Forgotten, Seers etc. and this time it’s the main races.

While that might be true for Zhaitan, why does Mordremoth need minions? He get’s his magic energy by consuming it from the Ley-Lines with his roots. He could’ve just stayed hidden and consumed all of Tyria’s magic from underground, leaving the races wondering why the waypoints don’t work anymore.

Vets make it possible to hit them at all once there are 3 or more players.

You don’t have to finish it.

While HoT plays (storywise) in a time after you finished your personal story + living world season 1+2, none of those are a requirement to play HoT or the story in HoT. So if you are fine with a non-chronological story for your character you can start right away.

Obligatory note that vines don’t work that way.

Mushrooms don’t work that way either. They just make you believe they do.

Ah ok, it’s a yellow rarity booster. Sigh, and another spot on my bank occupied by boosters that I’ll probably never use…

I tried to enchant the experience-booster that I got, but the merchant says I don’t have any experience boosters with me. Even though it’s right there in my second bag.

Mawdrey is the item with the most crafting steps in the game. But if you go step by step, have a look at what kind of Seedling you currently have and what you need to advance that seedling to the next step, then it’s certainly doable.
