Unranked doesn’t have matchmaking.
Unranked does have matchmaking and AFAIK it’s the same that was used before leagues on ranked. Perhaps with a few modifications they made to make queue time lower.
Matches have literally nothing in common, people are being randomly thrown around. That’s why almost nobody even bothers playing during offseason.
So let’s remove Marauder since it’s the go to amulet for power builds. Solid logic right there.
I’d rather they get rid of Merc.
Warrior, Mes, Rev, Druid, Guard, Ele, Thief…… Pretty much all my builds currently have merc + Intelligence sigils.
So you play merc on all characters even though half of them don’t even make any use of it and that’s supposed to be an argument?
Yes, leave only Berserker and let’s have 3 thief/2 revenant “what hit me?” meta. Sustain is OP let’s go back to no counterplay backstabs.
Abysmal.
Here are some of the reasons. Relying on a third party organiser (ESL) to do all your tournament work since day one has been the worst choice for the game’s competitive scene. Competition should be accessible in-game without the need to follow third party rules and regulations, broken intrusive clients like ESL Wire etc.
These are some of the reasons why the scene has been so small throughout the four years of it’s existence. There were never more than five decent teams per region in GW2 PvP because forming and competing with a team was never promoted well and has been looked at as a hassle. The ranking system has been changing drastically every year. We started with the qualification points system and then had multiple leaderboards ending up with a pseudo-league with very questionable matchmaking and progression plus we lost our separate solo queue ladder with the excuse of the playerbase being too small. “Esports” always looked forced in GW2 ever since the beta days. Anet focused more resources on financing and promoting a non-existant competitive scene instead of making the game fun and balanced most of the time. And here comes that part. I can’t remember another game with a lower amount of skills/traits to work with being constantly rebalanced over and over and over again which always leads to a bigger mess then before. Now with HoT they’ve pretty much invalidated every build that excludes the elite specs which sinks the diversity even deeper. There is no theorycrafting, there is no high level mechanical play. There are only passive plays with over the top meta builds. You either play what the developer decided you must play or you’re stuck ten miles behind which leads to mind – the balancing has almost always involved all three gamemodes at once. And last but not least – the game is very hard to follow as a stream spectator. A lot of games received intuitive camera improvements for easier casting while GW2 did not. Even as an experienced player I have hard times following what is going on while watching and now imagine someone who has never played the game and/or pvp before.
Good change. There was a reason (before HoT) there weren’t any condi amulets with tough + vitality. A step back toward having to choose a weakness .
And what has already been said, this will increase amulet use, instead of every single condi build using mercs.
There was also a reason why nobody played condi before HoT.
I guess it’s easier to just remove stats (amulets) to render multiple builds useless instead of balancing certain overpowered parts of a class. Just leave berserker only and let the meta fix itself. lmao
A close score doesn’t equal a fun and competitive match.
If a close score doesn’t equal a competitive match what does?
Fighting with and against players close to your skill level. And no that doesn’t always result in a close score.
Maybe you’re just way too good?! lol….sorry but a close score shows the “teams” were equally matched in skill and strategy. It may not be “fun” per your original statement but common sense would dictate that it is in fact competitive.
True, equally skilled players matched together doesn’t always result in a close score but that’s mostly due to costly mistakes.
Alright, I will do a quick example. Let’s say we have two teams. Each team has two Pro League players of equal skill, the other 6 players in the game are first timers. Will the score be close? Probably. Will the people playing enjoy that “competitive” match? I’m not sure we are using that word in the same meaning.

This is still the only game mode that will cost you an arm and a leg if you want to play with friends that are on another server. Especially now when some servers are “merged” you have 1/3 being completely “Full” and another third set at “Very High” (1800 Gems). Will this ever be looked at or will WvW players remain the only ones that have to bring out their wallet or farm hundreds of gold for a single transfer? I am fully aware that free transfers will potentially cause harm, but surely there can be other ways to control population other than a hefty paywall?
All I see from ppl disliking the ABL so far boil down to “it’s not new so we don’t like it”. Which is a pretty lame and weak argument. Are there real and factual reasons as to why ppl dislike it?
It’s not more blobby or zerg oriented than what I’ve seen from the DBL. That argument is pure unadulterated BS. So, really, what is it?
Casual players that never played the game last year throwing a tantrum.
A close score doesn’t equal a fun and competitive match.
So I decided to check the “official” WvW forums after a year since I stopped playing this game mode and the first thread I read is a person complaining about people fighting other people. I guess most people that cared moved on for a good reason.
I don’t understand why they made this change in the first place.
Broken, what can I say?
You’re dead wrong on that, as any long term Mesmer can tell you. I remember when a warrior could take me out with two button presses. ( a pommel bash stun > 100 blades = dead Mesmer 98% of the time. ) Not only that, there healing signet would face tank any dps I could output. Necro was a similar matchup. Thieves long considered a Mesmer free lunch. It was quite literally a near certain kill for the thief.
Mesmer was UP for years, so much so that it was acknowledged even here on forum.
I’m guessing you are relatively new to the game?
Mesmers have been meta for the entirety of the game’s lifespan. I guess you were/are far away from a competitive skill level to even judge the balance state properly considering your previous posts in this forum.
Generally, I’d say that If you’re talking about mechanical complexity, Ele and Engi are probably the highest, with Mesmer a bit behind.
There’s no mechanical complexity in those classes in their current meta state. If we were talking core engie, shatter mes and s/f burst ele from long ago then I’d agree.
Lock progression after every season, keep everyone on their current rating untill the next season. It’s simple.
Since the revamp of fractal dailies and buff to dungeon rewards we’re looking for a stable party to do that content with on a daily basis without relying on the luck of the draw through LFG. Both of us play the game since the beta and we are multiclassers able to bring almost any class fully geared at a top level. If anyone is interested in running that content with us send me a mail/whisper in-game. We’ll also take propositions from decent PvE guilds if any. (all raiding content plus achievements cleared for info)
You can’t just grind your way to legendary.
Yes you can. Even more than before.
I think it’s been a very long time since we got Temple of the Silent Storm and that it’s about time we got a fresh new and competitive pvp map for conquest.
That’s what you get for rewarding wins and not punishing losses. (winstreaks and division safe nets)
One month should be plenty, anything more than that becomes a grind and divisions get devalued to oblivion. I see more and more “legendaries” that were stuck in the mid tiers for more than a month now. The length is a complete joke compared to the number of games you need to prove your skill level.
You really don’t get the point of seasons. They are not to prove anything. It’s easy to get to legendary using one of the broken specs.
The reason that seasons are in place is to get people to play more. That’s the only measure of success.
Opinions. I’ve seen plenty of “meta broken” specced players that couldn’t get out of emerald for weeks. The point is that many people want the league TO BE a measure of success.
Divisions are meant to be grinded, in my opnion the seasons don’t last long enough and i’ve been legendary for over a month now. All it comes down to is who cares enough \ is able to play more then others when a season comes out, it doesn’t get that much easier over time.
Completely disagree. It gets easier over time because the better players stop playing and the opposition goes down.

Fivedawgs.4267, I fail to understand your reasoning. My complaint is that the league is too short taking the way it works now into account. The way it works is that you are being rewarded for lucky streaks and NOT being punished for loss streaks. Simple math will show you that you need below 50% win ratio to progress and combined with the number of pips you need to reach the final division that does not equal many games to even the least active players. That results in people from ALL kinds of skill ranges progressing where they don’t belong which means more and more awful games. And no prestige doesn’t work either, because the system doesn’t even take it into account when matching players. (eg. a prestige 1 person can get matches with/versus a prestige 100 person)
Raek.8504, that’s somewhat the idea. What’s the point of legendary if anyone and his mother can reach it and the skill range of that division is enormous? It becomes devalued and better players are forced to play with worse players – vice versa. I want to be able to see a player’s badge and say “hmm this guy is X division, he must be pretty good”. That’s not the case sadly.
(edited by Burn.5401)
the longer the season (and the bigger the amount of games played), the more accurate the system gets.
That would be true if there were more divisions, 6 divisions with safety nets is WAY to easy to grind through. You might belong to ruby and grind two months playing 10 games a day. Someone’s bound to get a lucky streak and reach the next safety net.
To the people not wanting to return to unranked the solution is simple. Make more divisions or more frequent seasons. (or remove the safety nets but then casuals will complain forever)

Tbh you did get proper feedback on forums, someone badmouthing you in-game doesn’t mean anything. It didn’t even seem related at all but as always you felt the urge to make a new thread about it.
Once mid-season hits, division 6 becomes as horrible as any other since more bad players managed to grind their way there. The amount of pips required is suitable for 4 weeks at best per season, people that get to legend after that are way worse since the better ones already stopped playing.
I like the idea of a title track of sorts, that increments when you continue to achieve legend, season after season. I have a couple ideas for the titles:
(1) Primordial Legend
(2) Exalted Legend
+
(3) Ascended Legend
(4) Fabled Legend
(5) Mythical Legend
These all sound pretty good to me.
This is what happens when you have no competition. The MMO market has been dead since the release of GW2 with no real good games coming out so far. This results in the already established names like gw2 taking it easy with not real pressure of losing players to other titles. Sure, people might take a break but they can always go back. Besides this, the resource management in the company has been one of the worst I’ve seen. I honestly believe that the devs are not the ones at fault, they just do what they are told to do, and when you change the teams and reassign them all time you simply can’t have a working structure. Seriously, for 5 people working on raids these guys are doing incredible. Now imagine if they had 10 more devs to work with. We would probably get one whole raid every 3 months instead of a wing. The constant shifting and change in direction results in nothing being done. Make a plan and try to stick to it for once and make sure you consult with the community about it, because most of the times you don’t.
I was talking objectively when I included warrior, never specified a post. I’ve never played with “zoose” since I don’t care about the NA scene outside of Abjured, but I can assure you – if revenant somehow becomes useless tier, there’s a class that will instantly replace it in the meta and it’s not DH by a mile. You can ask the pro players which class that is. In fact, you can ask everyone with a brain in division 6 about the viability of DH and you’ll probably get the same response.
Well when ones can’t debate facts they resort to silly sayings, lol. The level of illiteracy on this thread is insane, did anyone praise warrior?
You certainly did praise DH with nonsense presented as fact.
The easiest moment to spot a bad/clueless player is when they praise DH or warrior. Can’t miss that.
I can’t belive the guy above me just called DH the 8th worst class; just to show you how ignorant some of the so called good players are.
Easily. And it’s not even close.
Revenant, Scrapper, Chrono, Tempest, Reaper, Druid, DD, DH, Warrior. The bottom two are not arguable. Any of the others you could make a case for slight variations.
Being unable to recognize these kinds of things show why you belong at the bottom.
see how many games you can win with 3 dd or 3 wars on your team, than see how many you can win with 3 dh on your team. last match i had with 2 dh on one team and 2 wars on the other ended 500-43 in favor of the dh team.
That sounds like division 4 and below.
the only good suggestion for esports is banning esports alltogether
Sad but true. The money they pour into espurtz can be used to better the game and bring in more players.
You don’t need to obtain something of such big value by playing a game mode that you can’t even use it in. WvW on the other hand can use something like that. (if anyone still plays it)
League progression is not a reward track.
Alright, let me rephrase – “I deserve to have a higher placement on the ladder and I can’t progress because I always get matched with trash teammates that make me lose.”
Better?
OP has a point though. I’ve stated this during the previous season and there is still no change to this – there is no urge for legendary players to try hard. The prestige rewards are abyssmal and most people just stop playing once they hit division 6 or they goof around as they were playing hotjoin because they have no incentive. This is most obvious during weekends, had to play with and against s/d thief, flamethrower engie, obscure warrior build and other nonsense simply because noone gives a kitten . I would actually reclimb the ladder if I had a second account to get better games.
Footage showing the “I deserv legent but mmr hell kitten da systm!” people.
Even when you take their account and get legend in a day with it, MMR conspiracy theorists will continue to blame their losses on the system, it’s quite hilarious at this point.
I love these screenshots at the end of a game that are supposed to prove something. Bring a recording of the match if you want a proper explanation. Hell, you might’ve had an AFK player and we’ll never know that, no? Steamrolls never happen without a reason. Yes, they also exist in division 6.
I usually queue only in the afternoon and the games I get are generally good with most of the players being in the same skill/pip range. Today I played a few in prime-time and witnessed lower div trio/4man queues over and over. I get that the party system takes only the rating of the highest rated play in your group, but the people who are forced to play with those crippled half-teams are not having a good time. The only solution I can think of as of now is for the system to try and match similar “multi-division” teams together. Yes it will probably take them longer to get a game, but they’re multiple guys to begin with. I’d rather have a complete soloQ team consisting of div6 players then a guy playing with his amber friends.
Use those resources to create a new map based off of skyhammer’s assets which will be viable for competitive play. Out of bounds falls was never a great idea. (see Edge of the Mists map also)
Was busy not beeing banned on main account and forgot to brag about this seasons legend.
So ye same as first season 100% necro 100% solo que, only now on free to play account, time +/- 2 weeks. Diamond was kinda strugle cause its full with revenants but otherwise much easier than first season.
Dont let your dreams be dreams .?(ò_ó?)?Nice, it shows you got more time to play than work and care for your relative…
Show me a Skill based system, base on winning versus GOOD team plz.
Showing that you can grind wins with time, well… duh.
Yet there are people stuck in sapphire that play every day and complain about mmr hell.
Don’t know why ppl are saying ruby and higher.
S1 Sapphire (T1 T2 Crossing Division achievements)
S2 Sapphire (T3 Crossing Division Achievements)
S3 Ruby (T4 Crossing Division Achievements)(I am in T4 achievements atm, but crossing division for T4 unlikely as I need to get to Legendary)
This is inaccurate. You’re missing 2 division crosses.
How many viable (outside of hotjoin/low tier pvp) zerk builds do you see beside revs?
And what are the rev’s secondary specs? Oh wait, there are none, because the ventari healing is a complete joke compared to tempest, scrapper and druid healing.
It’s not so much that the rev is too strong, it’s that it completely dominates the bruiser role
Awesome contradiction. It exactly means that rev is too strong.
It simply makes dragonhunter + thief suboptimal and it makes shatter mesmer + dps warrior + any other dps build non viable.
But ye we have 5 different classes in the meta team comp, so everything is balanced and we have diversification, right?
What I meant is that those other classes need reworks to be competitive regardless of the revenant’s strength. So my suggestion was to “buff” them so that they can bring their own game and not be overshadowed by rev. If all you do is kitten revenant you’ll just see more scrappers/reapers/druids to replace his spot. So if the only solution that comes to your mind is “nerf rev” then come up with some nerfs/reworks that will actually make sense.
