So we’ll again have people on a skill scale from 1 to 10 sitting in the same pip range fighting completely different players and call it “prestigious”. I don’t really understand who you’re catering to with bringing back this unfair system?

How was it fair to have teams with significantly different mmrs playing against each other as in S2 and 3? The current system at least makes it fairer for the average player.

It was fair because players end up where they belong for the most part. A player with 3kMMR should be able to blowout someone with 2kMMR in his pip range and put him where he belongs. (which is probably not in the next 5 tiers currently) When he falls down to the tier that represents his actual skill he will face opponents of similar level. The divisions are meaningless if players are matched only based on their MMR and not tier progression. It is not “fairer for the average player”, it is EASIER. Top players shouldn’t be facing only other top players in Sapphire when someone that tanked his MMR is having an easy way through the whole of ruby for example.

Now you bring back the “lose games on purpose to lower your MMR” formula where you’ll have 100MMR diamond players and 10 000MMR diamond players in the same range and they wont play each other. How the hell does this sound ok? Well back to OW for me it is then.

These kind of posts are always funny to me. They take something completely out of context and immediately assume a defensive position.
Thinking that MMOs in the current year are not losing players each day is very delusional. Noone is talking about the game being completely dead because that’s only possible if the publisher closes down the servers. Even the most niche online games have their tiny dedicated fans still playing. Comparing the current GW2 pvp population to it’s prime numbers however, you’ll in no doubt see a very big difference especially if you actively play and pay attention to the people you get matched with.

A-net made a statement less than a year ago stating that the PvP population was at a high. I didn’t try to take the OP’s title “completely out of context and immediately assume a defensive position.”

You can read it yourself. I took the title as-is, because that is how it is worded. After that, I made reasonable points and asked respectable questions. Just because they go against the OP’s statement doesn’t inherently make them defensive. That would be a mind-set choice.

Statements like that are PR 99.9% of the time. Do you know how Anet counts the server population for WvW? You can literally enter WvW for a minute and never reenter again for months. You’ll still be counted as an active WvW player. That’s why most servers were at Full/High for so long when the playerbase was diminished. What I meant with taking stuff out of context is that “dying =/= dead”.

Just say it. Why lead your players on thinking they can use various builds? Why don’t you just tell them they are meant to use a single type of playstyle per profession?

I guess I now understand why ppl call scrapper OP.

^ A pretty good example of a team that scores many kills but completely fails to control the map. Why should the red team be rewarded with a win if the said game hypothetically ended in a draw?

this rule about more points is common, nothing strange, nothing stupid as you stated.

but you seems to be so smart, why don’t you give us your suggestion?

First off points in gw2 work in a way that the better team can have less points and still dominate. For example, how many points do you earn for just defending a node compared to capping a node? Let’s say team 1 keeps recapping their close point over and over while the other team holds mid and close for the whole duration of the game. Team 1 gets more points for destroying a treb on Khylo that nobody gives a kitten about and gets a few kills offnode while controlling zero of them. It’s pretty mindblowing that some people think that the scoring system in GW2 means something after four years and probably judge by it. Embarassing tbh. Games/Sports that use this ruling have a scoring system directly related to the flow of the match. If such ruling cannot be deemed as fair you get sudden death or overtime like in football, basketball, tennis, NFL, volleyball, chess with a time limit and others.

Alternatively: Take a sip for every condi warr killed by power warr, any type of scrapper (elexir gun and Hammer mandatory though, you know build diversity) boon corrupt nec, condi mes, power druid.

I still do not get why people have such problems to kill those petty condi meta lovers and do not even Start with: but dey hav souw mach invuln, littralllalaly 2 mins.

Why are you surprised by this? There’s no reason to play ranked once you get to legend because there’s a safety net and you can’t drop below a certain division once you reach it.

With a thief or a guardian you will have little chance of beating either one by yourself. For thieves it is just about how you are supposed to play thief, they are not made for 1v1’s. You can however gank squishy targets with thief really fast, but that’s not really 1v1ing, it’s just ganking.

Except thieves beat rev 1v1 easily after the PS nerf.

WoW PvP and GW2 PvP are both terrible right now. I played both for years.

Mechanically, GW2 is way better. * But the balance is inexcusably bad. GW2 balance has fallen to the point where facerolling a meta build lets you compete in skill with almost everyone else.*

WoW PvP has fallen victim to power creep (it usually does once the second raid set of the expansion comes out) and is too dependent on 1.5-3min cooldowns.

This could have been true during S1 or 2, we have one of the best balance ever , 8 out of 9 class are meta, according to everyone. And the power creep is getting tone down patch after patch.

I wouldn’t call specific opinions five days after a season start “meta”. Yes, probably every class fills a certain niche in the game right now, but I still think that at least 3 professions will get dropped at tournament level which will lead to it’s solidifying.

I don’t agree. If players are stuck in the same league all season then its for a reason. Not everyone is good enough to reach Legendary, or even Diamond, league. Its just a fact.

He is talking about the beginning of the season and he has a good point. If people have to wait a month to even have a chance at progressing, they’re very likely to just quit. And no I’m not saying that everyone is entitled to progress, I’m saying that if 90% of your playerbase is stuck in Sapphire for days and probably weeks that means something’s not right.

I also want to emphasize on the fact that the system prioritizes MMR a lot more then it should. In theory there should be plenty of people sitting at mid sapphire but most of my recent matches included multiple rubies and even two pro league players that already hit diamond. Seriously, why the hell is this a thing?

in my modest pov, the pov of a medium-low player what palys as main a condi build(a variant of the old burn guardian) , the problem of the condi is that stacks damage in a linear form and now there is a lot of multiple condis low staking that made the same dmg than a only one(or two) whith a decent high stack, and spaming multiple condis is more easy than building a high stack of one condi(or two) and for the other side eliminating one high stack is more easy than clearing multiple low stacks , in my view to compensate this there is only thre ways: or dificulting the acces to multiple condis to a single class or modifing the condi clears to clear x aplications not x condis(usualy one or two) or finaly modifiin the dmg staking to a clear non linear form where 4 stacks make more damage than 4condisx1 stack or 2condis x 2 stacks

^ This. With most condi cleanses kitten and warriors/mesmers inflicting every type of condition it is complete RNG to cleanse that one condi you want that will help you survive. You can have weakness, blind, confusion, torment, vuln and 20 stacks bleeding. Good luck cleansing those bleeds without praying to the rng gods first. This plus the increased passive play heavily noticable in warrior traits leave little to no room for counter and reactive play.

How is this going to be done the current system doesn’t really support it. First 500 to legendary? That’s not really fair and doesn’t really signify anything but who played the most first. What if someone was out of town the first two weeks of a season or couldnt play much. Someone outline how this would work that would be compelling or meaningful. I guess I could envision something where you could lose divisions and you had to play a mandatory ammount of games per week once obtaining legendary so you could go backwards. Something like that would be more meaningful then a cap.

It wont matter who gets to legendary first if you could drop out of it.

Sadly MMR doesn’t connect to divisions/pips in any way.

Easy solution would have been 20 divisions and not all the bad players enter legend. But would require too much efford to think of names for 14 new devisions i guess.

It’s not that easy at all. Someone that deserves to be in legend has to grind a billion games to get to his spot in the current system.

Leagues are fine as they are. There is already a big difference between a Ruby player and a Legend 14 (or more). If something, only the legendary level should be displayed.
But you can’t make a leaderboard of player skill out of soloQ in a team-based game. It does not make any sense.
What should be done is a proper team ranking with rewards so that skilled players could play against skilled players within skilled teams. Teams should be declared as 6 or 7 players and should remain for the entire duration of the league. Then show a real leaderboard and have automated tournaments for the 16 best teams at the end of the league before balance patch.

You’re way off. A ridiculous amount of players reached legendary in season 2 that can probably fill another 6 divisions in skill variety due to how bad the system is. In every game out there are certain gaps in the ranking that can only be reached when you improve your rating and of course you can fall out if you don’t perform. In GW2 nothing is tied to your rating, only wins/losses matter. It’s one of the most primitive systems in existence and it shows. And I’m not sure if you follow the scene but there are like 5-10 teams per region and that’s a very tiny percentage of the playerbase if you ask me, so excluding individual rating makes no sense. There’s a guild team leaderboard/pro league for teams and they can barely find people to participate.

Are we ever going to witness the proper way of creating a league system as literally every other competitive game/sport? Is it really that hard to tie personal MMR to divisions and pips for you? Do you think that reintroducing MMR tanking is a smart move? High MMR people having a harder time progressing, low MMR people having a hard time improving their MMR simply because the system matches people based on MMR, but divisions themselves only care about wins/losses. Is it fair that Mr. X can get to legendary with 100MMR while Mr. Y has to fight people at 2000MMR? On that matter don’t you think that it’s fair to reset everyone’s MMR at the start of each season instead of the current gimmick of placing people in a higher division which is pointless? What is the point of pips/divisions when they don’t serve a purpose for three leagues straight? Keep in mind this is not a frustration rant just curious what the thought process behind this was.

The top meta builds get discovered and start to appear in games way before that crappy site starts catching up. All they do is basically copy/paste what they see in pro league matches.
