Me and my friend are looking for a decent group to progress through the new content at a fast pace. Both of us are multiclassers with 300+ LI and all previous content/achievements done, playing since Forsaken Thicket first launched. We can take any role needed except Mesmer as we don’t really like it’s playstyle. Raiding times have to me GMT as we’re both in EU.

This x10 times.
If I’m let’s say a 1500 rated player, I want to have 1500 rated players as teammates and enemies. I don’t want 1900 and 1000 rated people in my games. Having an equal average on both sides doesn’t make it balanced, games are simply put – kitten. I don’t mind waiting 5 or even 10 minutes for a queue pop if I’ll be able to play on my rating.

Rev’s the only class in HoT that’s been fun for me to play due to the highly active/reactive gameplay. But yeah, let’s push passives more and replace him with the passive king (Warrior) for this season. I’m so glad this game’s forcing people to reroll with every patch, keeps the meta fresh right?

I’ll just say they were fine 2 cycles ago. Now not so much since other classes have been nerfed hard whilst warriors have been immune to any kind of balance change.

Pretty much this. Warrior is fine, it just outshines Revenant which can’t deal with conditions. If only other classes had more than 1 viable spec… oh wait this is GW2.

Ya the placement matches clearly have problems, but that wasn’t the question.

Also it should happen because people can get better. The guys with 2000+ rating didn’t start playing GW with that rating, they gradually improved.

Improvement that can take you through a whole division in the course of a couple weeks? I’m talking about the current season’s rating, not the hidden MMR.

I wouldn’t take this result too literally considering people tend to overestimate their own performance. There is plenty of research on this topic.

I’d argue that this is actually a very positive result for the new system.

I think my placement is below skill level because I keep winning more than losing and my MMR keeps increasing. It’s gone up 400 points and climbing. I may be an outlier, but I highly suspect this is true for a lot of people. Almost everyone on my friends list has increased their MMR substantially over the course of the season.

With proper placements 400+ rating gain should never happen.

When will this bad joke end? You’re forced to queue dodge in order to avoid a guaranteed bad matchup from your previous game every time, excluding maybe the prime evening hours. And don’t make the “small playerbase” excuse because I made sure more than 20 players at my rating were queueing at that time. And of course the players on both teams end up on the same sides every time, shouldn’t it be more random considering we’re all of “equal skill”?

I agree with most points, thought some changes can do more harm than help if not properly implemented. Like the individual scoring system – it needs to be VERY accurate and take many aspects of each match into account. I’m highly doubtful if we’re ever going to see a good implementation of this. A reasonable start would be to encourage players that have “top dmg/top point presence/top resses etc.” with a small bonus to their rating after the match. The win/loss can remain the main factor but still it will be a nice way to compliment people that did exceptionally well with a small boost.
Another thing I’d add is gating the top250 in some way. For example a minimum amount of 50 ranked games is required before a player can appear on the leaderboard. This prevents sniping the top spots on alt accounts and match manipulation in a sense.

I know people playing ranked solely for the ascended rewards. They don’t give two friks about their games as long as they can grind it out. I’m all for rewarding play in PvP but ascended armor (which btw doesn’t help you in any way in sPvP) is just a blatant lazy way to boost numbers in the game mode for a short period of time. The “healthy” way of rewarding dedicated players is through exclusive skins/minis/titles, things that make you stand out for playing PvP and not grinding for a week and not coming back.

Players that got very high MMR during previous installments might not be suited for that rating in the current one and vice versa. We are already burdened with bad matchups due to volatile ratings, placements having too much of an impact and no restriction for the top spots of the leaderboard, so why not have a fresh start without the leftover discrepancies of the mess which is the hidden MMR?

Just because they didn’t tell you at the time didn’t mean it didn’t happen. If you want to call Evan a liar straight to his face after he admitted MMR was hard reset (and that it was a terrible experience) then go right ahead, that’s your prerogative. But a hard reset would take months to correct itself while things are already being corrected.

I know you probably are too fuming to see your MMR be not quite as high as you thought it was but if you record your gameplay and have people you know are better than you review it then you can still improve. :^)

Don’t think you could do a worthy guide involving rotations .. I mean strict super basics sure but really rotations aren’t based on a static set of rules. It’s a matter of quick reaction and team adaptation on how your enemy decides it’s play and comps especially when talking about top teams with good thieves.

Explanation that fighting for a decapped node is a better option than going 1v1 on a capped enemy node is a good start.

Decay works completely different than just “dropping your rating down”. You can recover your old rating in a matter of a few games.

One of the most annoying parts of this new pvp system… Why the hell are we losing our badges if we dont keepplaying pvp? I’ve had a gold badge 3 days ago now it’s silver. No1 has to play pvp to keep that, since they got it with pretty hard work despite this weird matchmaking system. This is just bs… (Sorry for my weak english)

In a solo/duo system, you don’t have enough time to communicate things in pvp. The game is way too dynamic and leaves no time to use the chat unless you’re defending an uncontested node by yourself for a while. You have to rely on your teammate’s ability to judge right in most situations which is actually fine if people are matched with other players of equal skill. That said, the game would benefit a lot from an in-game voicechat similar to Overwatch, but that will probably never happen.

That one or two players that obviously don’t belong in their current rating. Frustrating when they’re on your team and makes you feel bad for their teammates if they’re on the opposite team. It’s also a bit susprising how many players still can’t rotate properly and it’s the main reason they easily throw games rather than mechanical skill. I guess it’s expected when the game doesn’t have a basic tutorial for these things and people treat conquest as a deathmatch mode.

There’s no way a decent player would go 1-9 in the placement matches. If you end up in the very low ranks you can carry easily as a good player. Even more so when you duo Q. If new/low MMR accs are so screwed, why do the top players easily get multiple accs into top 250?

This was just a figurative example. My point still stands. Hidden MMR (that shouldn’t exist now that we have visible rating by the way) promotes unfair placements which results in other problems as I listed above.

So this season brought a lot of changes to the whole league system, most of which are things that the players wanted straight from season 1 and it took you four seasons of experiments to get right. I’m talking about non-progression based ranking with safety nets, being able to see your rating and ranking place, pre-made groups not facing groups of lower size/solo players etc. Now for the bad parts.

Placement matches + hidden MMR not being reset once since the first pvp season started.
It seems like you missed the point where placements play a HUGE role in the current system and it’s actual fact that a lot of players get placed a lot higher/lower than where they truly belong. Now this wont be a big prolem if we had a continuous season in which case eventually people will find their perfect spot and get their perfect matchups. Are two months enough time for that to happen? Not by a long shot. In the current state even a rating decay that kicks ikittenx hours would not be enough to spread the playerpool properly in such a short amount of time. And now when we add up the hidden MMR (that was never reset) that goes hand in hand with your current season rating we get an even bigger mess. Let’s say we have player X and player Y. They are both of exactly equal skill. X placed at the top of the ladder in every previous season. Y didn’t play much pvp during that period or is a new account. X goes 1-9 in placements and gets placed in the top10%. Y goes 9-1 and gets placed in the bottom 10%. Now if we exclude that the placement itself is completely unfair when taking your hidden/previous MMR into account, the common counter-argument here is “but if Y is truly as good as X he will eventually get there!”. But can he? Does Y have the time to play hundreds of games probably consisting of other similarly misplaced competitors when in the end two months might not even be enough? Why does Y have to go through that hassle to get what X achieved instantly? This could’ve all been avoided if you actually did a proper reset (which is common sense for a completely new system) AND put more thought into the placements themselves. Instead you went with the “it will work itself out” mindset which doesn’t work in the season’s time frame.

One last thing I want to point out is the ridiculous way that end of season rewards will be handed out. You are additionally slowing down the placement process by making only the final standings valid. Why would someone even try hard during the first month when his ranking doesn’t matter at all? People can even hold out on playing untill the very last week/day and completely twist the whole ladder just by doing their placement matches. Someone that’s been rank 1 for 99% of the season can be pushed down in a matter of hours and get robbed because of the dumb way rewards are being distributed. The season started on December 13th and ends on February 7th. Every game played during that time frame should be of equal importance, period.

You can carry low rank teams. Matchmaking isn’t bad. Class stacking isn’t an issue. You’ve just got to be good enough to carry an entire team. If you’re not then you belong where you are.

Swapped to guard myself, the other three didn’t know how to swap characters/ didn’t have any ready. But that’s not their fault, it’s a me issue. The also didn’t know how to rotate. But that’s not their fault, it’s a me issue. They couldn’t target called target, but that’s not their fault, it’s a me issue. I just gotta carry harder. Two of the thieves had duo queued together, but that’s not their fault, it’s a me issue. Also, one of them bailed about a minute before the end of the match and I still lost ranking, but that’s not their fault…. it’s a me issue.

It’s in no way an issue with the system; I’m just terrible at the level of these other players.

Sorry, but I couldn’t help it and read “it’s a me” with a Mario voice every time.

Not even that. People will simply play a game every couple days just to not hit decay and really start grinding during the last week because that’s the only week that matters. You could’ve been number 1 for the whole season but if you’re not during that last minute it’s over. Really well thought.

Placements were pretty awful for me, got matched with the same people over and over the last few games in which half the team didn’t understand basic rotations. Some friends of equal skill got placed in top100, the randomness is real. I don’t feel like grinding for a month waiting for the miraculous perfect player spread, will probably play a game every three days just to not hit decay. You implemented placements forgetting how actually important they are, thinking that players will have the time and will to grind 100 games to get to where they belong. I’m done with five seasons of the same and don’t feel like alpha testing again. /peace

1 day till Revs play one game and immediately QQ with a dozen threads saying that they’re now worse than season 1 Warriors.

Yet they’ll still be among the top 5 picked class in tournies; the majority of players in yoloQ simply struggle playing the class efficiently.

Yet people still continue to compare soloQ with tournament play when they’re a completely different beast. In soloQ you have to have some tools to carry not only your own weight but most of the time at least one more teammate. You teammates are not reliable as if you were in a premade team.

Some other classes might be able to focus more on damage with nerf to Rev. Coming from a Druid main, I always put extra defense on when I see a rev or two on other team. It’s that or be a rally bot.

When there is no rev I can safely drop signet of stone and replace it with something more damage oriented. I can also swap out offhand dagger. So, yeah, you might see some of the bunkers changing to deal more damage…

So basically the classes that are already sustaining well will be able to even do more damage as a bonus. You’re making it sound like that’s a good thing.

I don’t think I understood what your point was but players should be able to carry their own weight in matches, period. You shouldn’t be expected to “carry the moon on your shoulders” which is what being paired with players way below your level is. The league is designed with tiers in mind. I don’t care if pro player X is way better than me and gets matched against me. That means I don’t belong in his tier and should fall down the ladder. If you only want 50/50 matches, remove all divisions like in unranked and you’re free to match only based on MMR. Divisions and 50/50 matches are a direct contradiction.
