How to avoid TopTeam-Amber Mix in Ruby

To be honest there is no difference except time between rubies and ambers so who cares. If you lost you lost because they were better not because 1 one diamond and one was Amber. Now if you show that your losses to those teams were -3pips you might get a reaction out of me but that Matchmaking seems appropriate to me.

You realise that 90% of the time this is used by “pro” teams to abuse matchmaking MMR to farm easy pips…?

Okay but the point is that this system is still better than the old system it is just now we can point at a yellow pip to say that is the problem. But a diamond doesn’t equal a professional player, losing is what implies that the opponent team were better than yours nothing to do with the divisions.

So why have divisions at all then? They don’t work in this game obviously.

3. They could make a separate Leagues for SoloQ’ers only, an exact copy except for those ESL stages. Just like before we had Solo and Team Arena (Leaderboard).

Which would result in the game being pure soloQ, because there are not enough teams in existence to population a team queue, which leads to long queue times, which invariably results the teams quitting, and thus alienating players that enjoy social PvP.

Because putting teams against solo queuers is the best way to promote team creation? Are you not aware that most of the better teams were created during the glory days of solo queue where people enjoyed the game? Oh wait you haven’t played the game back then, my mistake.

I think people fail to realize that splitting soloq and teamq would basically make teamq a wasteland. You think queues are long now? People with high mmr would be waiting hours upon hours for a single match.

Don’t get me wrong, I’d love soloq back because that’s predominately how I’ve been going through leagues. But, you have to look at the side-effects.

I thought sPvP was the “fastest growing gamemode”? Let’s see all these hundreds of teams hungry for competition. Right Colin?

Hmmm, i agree with you when talking solo queue, but if you either have a guild or or at least a friend or two to play with, it really makes a huge difference. Also it gets a lot easier once you get out of amber division, and move up in sapphire and emerald, you can really feel that players are more experienced than in amber league, which also makes solo queue easier and basically more fun to play.

Literally everyone has a guaranteed ticket to emerald after one day of games, your post makes zero sense.

What are you even talking about?

The previous leaderboard only had players that could play 24/7.
The current system is an attempt to make it more accessible to highly skilled players that don’t have a lot of time. I don’t think, it’s a successful attempt, but the idea counts, right?

He is comparing it to the old leaderboards which were based on rating and the only ones in gw2 pvp history that somewhat reflected actual skill. (where soloq was separated from teamq)

Opinions. I’ve never had more fun playing a thief in PvE ever before tbh. Constant dodges, amazing staff auto attack chain with overall solid dps, great amount of CC for breaking stun bars etc. Also the dash trait which stacks swiftness and removes movement impairing effects is beast.

I support the idea of an in-game tool that provides in-depth fight statistics, it will help a lot in the upcoming raid content. Being able to analyze each attempt is always a plus.

I understand the need for having timers, as to prevent raid fights from becoming too long due to lack of dps. However I’ve noticed that groups that tried to sway away from the “zerk” meta(say 6 zerk, 2 tanky supports, and 2 healing focus supports) did not beat the raid due to lack of dps. If anet is indeed serious about getting away from zerker only, than maybe they should consider another rage mechanic instead of a timer. Or have two separate raid types, normal mode which would be untimed and Challenge mode, which would be timed.

Thoughts?

As we only know how the first boss works I instantly vote AGAINST your proposal since doing damage AND focusing on survival makes things harder. If you don’t have a timer you can completely gear your raid to be full tanks and do the encounter with a billion mistakes.

I like how people complain about the tutorial mobs being too easy while they haven’t killed the actual boss and also complain about his enrage timer. Seems to me you just want something to complain about. My feedback will be rather short – my group got the boss to the second split but people had to go so we couldn’t finish it. This is the first encounter in GW2 that actually requires skill and is not about brainless zerging and speedrunning easy boring bosses. All the mechanics worked great and we immediately knew the causes of our wipes. The boss can be killed with different kinds of setups so complaining about the timer is a learn to play issue. If you nerf it from how it is now you’ll be doing a slap to the face to all people who want an actual challenge. I was pleasantly surprised and if the rest of the bosses are as good as this one you’ve done an awesome job with the design. Keep it up!

Yep you guessed it. Leaderboards haven’t been active since the last testing season. Dishonor (debuff for punishing leavers) has been inactive for even longer I think.

Of course there are downsides. You make good points, but don’t be so arrogant. I have seen plenty of games where a person who is lowest ranked on a team will be blamed for a loss and cussed out, all over something they had no control over. No one is pretending it won’t be useful, but there are legitimate concerns out there as well.

So I am arrogant because I want player info like in every other competitive game and real sport out there? Care to elaborate what’s arrogant about my post, because I don’t see anything. There will always be certain people that harass players regardless of their “rank”, I’ve seen better players that are simply quiet get harassed by bad players for no reason so what concerns does this raise?

The last thing SPVP needs is map chat spamming “Legendary Rank Only.” Or every player with the highest quality badge logging out every time he gets a match with any team member or members who don’t have same. The constant 5 v 4 is bad enough already.

So the last thing sPvP needs is people finding players on their own level to form groups and teams with? First world problems right there.

I’d be seriously annoyed if you don’t allow badges during matches. Back then we had visible pvp ranks and you removed those for no reason, now we have no way of distinguishing new from experienced players. I don’t care about someone getting offended for being a lower rank than someone else, it’s a competition – deal with it. Data on your teammates is always helpful, if you see someone new you’re more likely to keep an eye on him in case he makes a mistake so you can make up for it quicker etc. On the other hand if you notice a highly skilled player you can use some more bold plays in certain situations. It’s not about bragging rights so stop with that crap nonargument. This way we’ll also have a visible data on how that matchmaking is working and give more feedback. There are 0 downsides and decent benefits.

The current system is making the player base smaller by the minute.

While I’ll let the PvP team respond to the other points here, I do want to take a moment and address this:

PvP has steadily grown in population and play hours going on nearly a year now. It’s sky-rocketed since the game went free, and the two weeks before this have been our best weeks literally since the week the game launched. We anticipate this week will be the best week login/play wise PvP has ever had in the history of Gw2.

I don’t want to trivialize your points – and our competitive team has some great reasons why things operate the way they do they’ll lay out and explain in relation to leagues soon: I do want to call out you’re using false population data to support your point.

From an ArenaNet perspective, PvP is the fastest growing part of Gw2 and had more success for us as a business in the last year than it’s had by far in the history of the Guild Wars franchise. Next year is going to be even bigger because of that success.

I’m really proud of the work the team has done and the work our amazing player community who has helped grow competitive PvP just as much as our dev team has and would hate to see that lost in this discussion.

Whilte I understand your reasoning behind this post, it serves as a double edged sword even if you might not realize it. Pairing players that have been playing this game mode for 3 years together with people who bought the game during one of your recent discount campaigns or are simply “free to players” sounds a bit insulting and at the same time serves as a reality check for both sides. However, keeping things real – how many of of those new players that joined a pvp game in recent months (boosting the numbers to an all time high) do you think will stay for another 3 years and how many will become part of the “esports” scene? I don’t want to sound mean, but the main part about sPvP is the competition and numbers in casual games mean nothing when people have no incentive to compete in your game. Reward tracks are not an incentive to form a team and practice daily, they can be farmed regardless, achievements too. ESL cups can barely get 4 teams to enter with each of the teams playing with replacement players from other known teams.

tl:dr – The new League system will be your last chance to spark some competition into this game mode and if you ride the idea that numbers are the most important thing you will have the same four teams in every future WTS, unless of course some of them give up along the way. Pairing casuals with hardcore players is the worst thing for any competition and you’ve been doing it for quite some time now.

The poll result speaks for itself, but I’ll write something anyway. I read some pointless arguments here that need to be debunked.

I also share the idea that this is a team game and it needs to be played in teams, mostly. HOWEVER, team creation in this game has been an enormous and even impossible task for most people. There is absolutely no stimulus for teams to be made in this game REGARDLESS of solo queue being here or not. I’m 100% positive that with it’s removal, we’re seeing even LESS teams being formed than before and this is a fact. Since there is no “go to” place to find teamless players on your skill level here, solo queue was the perfect opportunity to find that kind of people and I’m speaking from experience. If they don’t want to give us an in-game tool or some kind of feature to promote formation of teams, the least we deserve is a soloq ladder with working matchmaking (current MM is NOT working) where we can play and talk to other players close to our level – period.

The thing is this game is casual friendly.

I dont’ think Anet want people to be kittened that they wiped over and over again.

If Anet want to make dungeon hard they already can do so. Just have horrak shoot cannon the entire fight while people have to try luring mai trin to lightning. Or have molten duo both start at phase two.

I do pug and occasionally people keep wiping at molten duo. Or almost everyone is downed in Mai trin. The average player is not all elite pros. I suppose I’m part of the problem as I’m one of the person dead too sometimes.

That’s why a “hard mode” for each dungeon/raid is a good idea. Players who don’t give a kitten about a challenge can just take the story mode and have it easy, while others who want a challenge can get a more difficult mode (like some of the living story achievement fights) and get bonus rewards for it. They advertise HoT raiding as “challenging content” as a whole, but from their current content there’s nothing that comes even close to challenging so everyone is understandably sceptical. Challenging content = something you need an organized group with voicecom to complete, not something you can manage with pugs even after a few wipes.

I personally havnt played GW2 since launch .. I just got back into playing .. Coming from 5+ yrs of wow and FFxiv I have ABSOLUTELY no issue with 50 bucks for an xpac.

Yeah some people are in denial if they’re saying double ele is THE reason Abjured won, Abjured won because oRNG played badly.

However likewise a lot of people also can’t see how the double eles being able to sustain contestion of a point also helped. Let’s also not discredit Nos’ part either, that plague form did its part too.

Again though, double ele is a reason they won but not the biggest reason which is oRNG turned up and played courtyard and just plain didn’t play for points.

oRNG just had a very bad comp that was very hard to work with (hence the terribad rotations), especially against quadruple bruisers (2 of them being broken eles).

So what was stopping oRNG from playing the same or even better comp? Enlighten us as you obviously know the gameplan of both teams better then they did.

I’m from EU and it’s hilarious how some people discredit The Abjured for using eles in their comp like some mysic ritual forbid the other teams from playing with 5 eles if they wanted to. Face it – oRNG’s rotations were bad in the grand final and TA took maximum advantage of that. Do I need to remind that oRNG were using a BURN guardian throughout most of the games? Stop crying and give these guys some cheers kitten .

The lack of dungeons (and ridiculous pricing) is exactly why I won’t be getting HoT, probably not even when it goes on sale for half price.

But what kind of content would you want?
Are you satisfied by just doing the same raid instance 4327986 times because the item you want has a drop chance of 0.0000001% ?
That’s not how it should be.
And I’m happy that it’s not how they do it.

Its not about gear, its about fun and challenge. Which makes GW2 dungeons stand out, I dont have to run them 4327986 times. I chose too.

When we had MMR based leaderboard people stop playing after reaching a certain level or played fewer matches. Esport doesn’t grow.

They attempted to fix that, but turned into grindy leaderboard. People still played less because there was no point in playing. Esport still won’t grow.

The winner here? Casual or PVE players. Which is fine, fun to troll them. But actually thats only thing left to do .

MMR leaderboard was fine, only thing they had to do was add proper decay. Now we have a lb that is essentially – the more games you have the higher your rank is, which contains 0 consideration of player skill whatsoever.

In the old leaderboards I was getting matched with players on my skill level literally every game and they were all super fun and exciting games. Now I am constantly serving as a balancing mule to equalize the whole team’s MMR which is just stupid. Instead of placing you together and against people on your MMR, the system calculates the total MMR of the team meaning that you can have a player with 100 MMR and one with 2000. How is that fun and fair?

because your party gets desertions if at least 1 of you dc for more than about a minute. even if you reconnect. cuz it wrecks the game. the community doesnt want to deal with 4v5s because some little baby got spiked and ragequit, so you get to find out how harsh the system can be when your behavior mimics a ragers, even unintentional mimicry.

You know there are times when people’s computers and internet connections are not the ones at fault. Times where the client suddenly decides to drop you out of the game. It has happened in ESL cups and other top tournaments. I agree that the person that dropped can be punished if we’re looking from a certain perspective, but people that played the whole game trying to win just because someone dced? Come on now..

Wins and skill are two different matters, if you wanna win based system that’s easy most wins —-- wins But that seems to be be why everyone is complaining, So skill based system, gl on that since there is no measure of skill. So i get the feeling everyone wants a win % system that should be easy, although the already small community will become even smaller as full team will be required to achieve the top ranks,

1. Wins/Losses when you’re getting constantly matched against and with people outside of your skill range are inaccurate.
2. An MMR system works better, because it provides more fair matchups. The current system doesn’t reward players with high MMR at all, quite the opposite. I have a friend that made a new account and is currently at about 50 wins and 10 losses in top600. He can’t pass the 50% win ratio on his main account.
3. Teams will be required, yes – that’s why everyone wants a separate solo queue leaderboard like before.
