/signed. Scarlet wouldn’t know what hit her after your emote spams
.
On a side note, have humans even developed air defenses yet? The Charr and Asura have their different types of turrets, and the Sylvari might have some if they can grow the plants big enough.
As MQM said all of the turret tech is relatively primitive – ironically I think Scarlet would be the one person who would be able to cobble something together. Given how things typically went down in the living story: Priory will likely know about some artifact, Vigil will acquire it and Whispers will modify it.
Pact turrets fired at Zhantan from over a Kilometer away and killed him just fine. Pact do have turrects. They just choose not to install them and let us players do all the work.
After one big attack of sea creatures, there are no heavy defenses to protect Lion’s Arch’s bay.
After one airship attack on Lion’s Arch, and a member of the council was assassinated, there are no extra air defenses in the city. Nor are there more guards.
Heck, not even the pirate council themselves seems concerned with their own lives, even though one of them recently got killed in an attack on all of them. I can understand lazy politics, but aren’t they even concerned with having some bodyguards for them selves?
I would love to see some forward thinking on behalf of the npc’s. We know she has a drill, we know she has a giant robot and a flying saucer, and we know she wants to attack Lion’s Arch. Put up air defenses!
Or are the npc’s aware that any attack on the city would simply involve a bunch of mobs being dropped on the ground, for the players to fight? Frankly, if someone attacked my city with an airship, I would be afraid that they’d simply napalm the whole city. I would put siege equipment on every tower and rooftop, and shoot the next thing that flies by from the sky.
Support the Mad Queen as your new regent of Lion’s Arch for 2014
This. So much this.
It does seems that the NPCs wants to allow the enemy airships to fly right in, just to give the players something to fight. >_>
I am very sorry, but I can already guess what will happen. Scarlet will use those airships and portals to sent troops into the city. The players will stop them. And then Scarlet will use her UFO robot. The players will defeat that too. Scarlet may or may not die here.
That’s it. 2 weeks later Lion’s Arch is back to normal. It would be as if the invasion never happened.
Maybe some of you don’t understand what is wrong with this picture. But let me tell you a fact. When a city comes under air raid, it isn’t paratroopers that the civilians have to worry about. It is the carpet bombing that’s the problem.
After the carpet bombing, and the whole city is razed to the ground, then maybe the civilians can start worrying about enemy troops.
And this is why I was excited, for the story, when I find out the Aetherblades have airships. I know for a fact that, even if the players wins, the players CANNOT save the city. The city will be razed to the ground by carpet bombing alone, and the players cannot do anything about it. The civilians will suffer and be angry no matter what. That means the story and politics will change to a whole new direction, even if the players win.
The players are powerless to stop the giant wheels of history. And that’s what makes a great story.

In the past GW Halloween has always been a funny event. But a part of me kind of want this next one to be scary. Actually scary.
Would you support the idea of a frightening, survival horror dungeon in the 2014 Halloween?

Here is the sad part: The few characters in the story who formed emotional bounded with the players are already dead.
If you trust the hints, Scarlet is going to attack LA. And the Pact will, against all logic, do absolutely nothing to strengthen LA’s defences. So once again it is up to the players to defend LA, while the Pact sit by and watch. The Living Story so far are predictable like that.
Unless, of course, all those hints were false information left behind by Scarlet to deceit the Pact.
I do hope the true target to be Divinity’s Reach. It will be great for the story if DR is carpet bombed by airships, thousands gets killed by corrupted Watchknights, and the civilians turn on Queen Jennah and vote Caudecus into power. Without world changing dramas like this the living story will never be good.
(edited by CHIPS.6018)
I am too lazy to add more complains. If Anet cares they can read my history.
It is a mistake to attack LA. It is a major hub for all 5 nations. That means it will rapidly get reinforced.
Divinity’s Reach is the city they should attack. There is only one Asura Gate to send in reinforcements. Send a spy/saboteur to blow it up. GG. (Until the heroes come save the day.)
While necros have waited for months for those 100s of bug fixes and justified buffs, that 1 nerf required will happen first.
I think we can all agree that the overflow system needs to be reworked in the near future, whether it be a system akin to GW1’s districts or (as suggested) a private overflow for large groups.
However, locking these events in instances would really hurt the casual players. (For the most part) Casuals just turn up at these events, get carried or maybe are invited into groups, possibly a teamspeak server, and can just play.
By instancing this content they have to specifically seek out large groups/guilds to play which for a lot of people is just a hassle.
And this will mean, a raidfinder and instant group invite systems are not far away.Except that ‘casuals’ (whatever that means) are hurting the players who want to complete this content. The content isn’t tuned for low level stragglers. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard commanders say in map chat “If you are low level or aren’t serious about beating this boss, please consider a map change so that others who want the AP can come in.”
Now, for the record, I loathe this content. I absolutely despise everything about it. So, I say that low level players should swarm to Lornar’s very early and give those Commanders the good ol’ comeuppance they deserve.
Casuals won’t be affected by my suggestion. No one is banned from entering a channel. They won’t be password protected.
I really like how the fight split up the players into 5 paths. It help reduce the graphic lag in these events.
And yes I welcome the removal of time limited events.
I look forward to the final version of the Marionette. I bet it would be a great fight, like this maybe. ^^
(edited by CHIPS.6018)
It was definitely an improvement. ^^
Remember how personal story was done? The world didn’t change. The player run to an area, where the player clicks “Yes I want to enter this instance” to enter his own personal story. No one else in the world is affected.
That’s what they should use in World Event contents.
Take the Twisted Marionette™ fight for example. Instead of having it on the world map, why not ask all the players interested to join into their own instance? The game can offer 50 TM fight channels, and allow the players to pick whichever one they want.
This will greatly reduce the queue times. More importantly, it allows guilds to play together every single time. Channel 1 to 43 are all full? Well I can still ask my whole guild to join channel 44, so my whole guild can still do the event together. This is much better than some of us doing it on SOS, some on TC and some on overflow.
Thoughts?
Haha I would actually play an engineer if I start another class. That was my class in GW2 beta.
I tried a warrior a few months back. Got her to level 23 and stopped playing due to boredom. It is true, super boring. The boring story of the Sylvari didn’t help.
One of the best examples I found of what LS should be is the Walking Dead game. Every choice matters, either deciding someone being dead or alive, or changing someone’s loyalty level toward the main character. And all of this affects the future of the story.
What Anet should do is using the law of averages. Let’s say 30% of the players pick choice A, 50% pick choice B and 20% pick choice C. Then they should carry on the future story as according to choice B. Lore wise, it can be argued that the Pact sent men to try all 3 methods. But the most popular choice ends up succeeding.
As for action choices they are easier. Let’s say the players have to defending town A, town B and town C all at the same time. The game should be designed so that it is literally impossible for the players to defend all 3. The players can almost certainly save one of them, two if they are really really organized. But saving all three towns is impossible. So one of the towns will get burned down and be removed from history. So in this case, the literal successes and failures of the players will determine the future story.
Depending on the player’s choices, factions will get stronger or weaker. This applies to both allies and enemies of the players. There will be other effects, such as survival or death of certain characters. There is also the loyalty factor, which may pay major roles in the future of the story.
Since these stories will affect the whole world, the loyalty levels cannot be for the character personally. Instead, the NPC’s loyalty should be counted toward the Pact and the player’s Order (Vigil, Priority, Whispers, etc).
What this means is that the players’ most selected choice will affect Queen Jennah’s trust toward the Pact, Rox’s trust toward the Priority and Rytlock. etc.

Dhuummmmmm.
When it comes to the Lore Slayer and logic, the less question you ask the better.
But to be fair, Tyria is a large land. There are many places to hide. But the lack of effort from the Pact to find her is indeed puzzling. Building something this huge will require a huge mining operation somewhere. And farms to feed the workers.
I hasn’t played the new update yet. But I heard that they are putting in serious efforts to fix the story up. I doubt everything will be answered. But it doesn’t matter anymore. Just treat the Lore Slayer as a kids’ cartoon villain. Meanwhile, enjoy the loots and have fun. The game play is pretty good I heard.
(edited by CHIPS.6018)
It is GREAT NEWS that Dhuumfire is nerfed to the ground. Now perhaps our whole profession won’t have to balance around Dhuumfire anymore.
I support any kind of nerf against Dhuumfire. In fact this whole trait should be deleted from the game altogether and be forever forgotten alongside the Forgottens.
How is it great news that it is now completly useless? Nerfing does not mean make it so bad no-one would ever want to trait for it.
Because Dhuumfire should never have existed in the first place. It is universally hated by both necro and non-necros alike. Necros hated it because they knew it would cause tons of nerfs to other skills, and those nerfs did come as expected. Non-necros hated it because it was too high damage, and it was.
Lore wise it also made zero sense. Why would Dhuumfire suddenly become a good guy and start helping the good side?
Nevermind the nerfs to Dhuumfire. I will be happier if they just delete this whole trait and replace it with something totally different.
(edited by CHIPS.6018)
As many of you know, I went on exile from the game for 2 months because of the unjust nerfs to the necros, like Mark of Blood, because purely on Dhuumfire.
Now with the new Living Story happening, I am temped to come back.
The balancing of the necros are nowhere in sight. I highly doubt my exile will speed things up. So it is becoming pointless.
So should I come back? Please vote yes.

Watchknights, killing 10000 humans for every 1 human it protects. Great success!
That’s why Queen Jeenah should abdicate her throne. Her “gift to humanity” failed big time. She cannot run this nation.
She may have better luck as a mesmer fighting for the Pact.
That’s like saying YOU should be punished, because a thief stole your car, and then he or she proceeded to try and mow down as many innocent people as they could.
Ok let’s go to an alternative universe on Earth, in Japan 1940. The battleship Yamato has just been completed. The demigod emperor was making a public speech in front of tens of thousands of civilians, about how Yamato will protect their nation.
Suddenly the Yamato turn its 45 calibre guns toward the crowd and open fire. In an hour thousands of civilians were killed.
It turns out the Yamato malfunctioned. Its computers (remember, alternative universe) has an error that identified the crowd as a threat.
Of course by logic the demigod emperor will loss support. His promise of protection was broken as soon as he made that promise, literally less than 5 minutes after he made that promise. The very weapon that was introduced ends up killing thousands of civilians before it ever protected anybody.
The only way the emperor won’t loss support would be that he is viewed as a demigod. And the Japanese subjects have 100% unquestioning loyalty to him.
Here is the problem: Queen Jennah is not a demigod queen.
Yeah, you forgot to mention that Americans hijacked the system and forced it to shoot on the populace.
You are making it sound like the system just malfunctioned, which is not the case. The Watchknights would have been great at their jobs if there hadn’t been a malicious force trying to corrupt their systems.
If Queen Jennah said, “Yay Watchknights!” and they started massacring the populace with no outside influence, then yeah, it would be her fault. But the real situation isn’t that way.
Yes by equivalent it would have been the Americans who “hijacked” the Yamato. However it is a FACT that 5 minutes after the emperior introduced the Yamato, the Yamato started killing civilians.
In GW2, it is a FACT that 5 minutes after the Queen introduced the watchknights, the watchknights started killing civilians.
This is a fact. Many people saw this.
And yes this is a political gold mine for Caudecus. His propaganda machines will have a very fun time.
Once again, the truth rarely matters in politics. And this is especially true during war and chaotic times. Propaganda (by Caudecus) against a mostly uneducated population (e.g. medieval) is easy.
Actually you are a little wrong here. In the opening ceremony we had one watchknight attack and attempt to kill Logan. This was when Queen Jennah introduced them to the populace. If we go off of a real world time-scale (which ArenaNet seems to prefer) we had two weeks of perfectly working Watchknights before they were hijacked, not 5 minutes. Similarly, although there were loads of deaths, I do not remember seeing anywhere that there were 10’s of thousands dead. I think you need to stop exaggerating quite so much. Was there perhaps a lack of foresight and planning? Perhaps so, but how do you plan against a complete unknown? For all we know, Queen Jennah had people working night and day trying to prevent any further tampering with the Watchknights before they were finally hijacked. It is just that, we are not privy to all of the information about what was going on, not even Logan was.
I mean, if you want to state that Caudecus will try to use this against Queen Jennah, you might be right, but I highly doubt it will succeed. If anything, Caudecus’ inclusion in an event like that would mean that we, the players, would be siding with Jennah and avidly fighting against Caudecus’ political schemes. The real question is whether ArenaNet thinks a political scandal would be intriguing enough for players without dungeons/zergs/farming. I know many players who would, but there are thousands that just love zerging.
From what I understand, the Queen’s Jubilee was a private showing. Only the nobles and other important people were invited to see the watchknight.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Queen%27s_Jubilee
It was during the Clockwork Chaos (Queen’s Speech) that the watchknights were introduced to the public. 5 minutes later the watchknights starts killing civilians.
a mostly uneducated population (e.g. medieval) is easy.
The ORPHANS in Salma District are being educated. Such children are often on the lowest end of the stick just shy of completely homeless or incredibly poor for having things like education in any society.
A good amount of Krytans seem capable of reading – and you’d be surprised how many folks out there even today cannot read – and even if there’s no formal education system there’s the Durmand Priory who are known to print out books for commoners to buy and read. Reading, one of the most basic functions for learning, is a wide-scale in Kryta and the other races.
Over the past 220 years, New Krytan has become the standard writing system in Tyria and is used widely throughout the human kingdom, the asura colleges, and by the norn. The Durmand Priory set out to promote literacy and make the use of the new alphabet commonplace, so that all intelligent beings could read and understand the words that were appearing all around them.
Today, every citizen of Tyria, regardless of their origins, is given the opportunity and the education to read and understand the alphabet of New Krytan.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Cultural_Diffusion_in_Contemporary_Kryta
Kryta is far from “uneducated” and is far from medieval in its education system. It is perhaps even better than our own modern education system. Just because we don’t see schools doesn’t mean they don’t exist. And if you want to see at least a miniscule part of Kryta’s education system go to the northern lower part of the Plaza of Kormir where you’ll see scholars teaching others in ancient Greek forum style – I doubt you’d go and say the Greek philosophers were uneducated as it seems that Kryta’s education system is based off of that at least in part. On top of that we can see scholars in Kormir Low Road going out of their way to educate the homeless refugees.
And even to say that the medieval era was full of a “mostly uneducated population” is grotesquely false. In ancient times people specialized in trades, during and long, long before the medieval era – Blacksmithing, tailoring, and the like. They were educated but it was akin to going through a specialized education for their chosen or determined (depending on the culture) trade the individual would learn. While they didn’t have your modern education system of “kids should learn a bit of everything and then specialize” they were far from some sort of “uneducated masses.”
And even then, uneducated is NOT the same as gullible. You can fix uneducated by teaching, but you can’t fix gullibility. (The phrase “you can’t fix stupid” should actually be changed to “you can’t fix gullibility” since that’s really what it means; sadly, stupid sounds better).
So I am sorry but CHIPS, YOU ARE DREADFULLY WRONG in claiming that Krytan has mostly uneducated people. Because most of Tyrians are educated. You would not find a single charr that wasn’t born in LA or from a Gladium that isn’t educated, you’d be hard pressed to find any asura or sylvari that isn’t educated. And the same goes for human and norn though they – especially norn – would be the most likely to have uneducated individuals amongst them but still thanks to the Durmand Priory who focus not just in uncovering lost knowledge but spreading that knowledge as well as the own cultural education systems, uneducated individuals of all intelligent races (playable or otherwise) is rare indeed. Like I said, Tyria is likely far more educated than our own modern world – pick a continent, any continent, and Tyria’s educated/uneducated ratio is likely better than what you picked.
Alright I guess I am a bit wrong on the human education. I never played a human character, so I do not know the humans in deep detail. I just know the general picture.
Being educated doesn’t mean they cannot be manipulated though. One step at a time the propaganda machines might slowly creep their way in.
:(
Unfortunately, Jeff Grubb has confirmed in an interview years ago (in 2007 or ’08) that Abaddon had been killed for good.
If Anet wants to go this route, they can use a “child of Abaddon” or “successor of Abaddon”. With all his powers, he might have an escape plan somewhere.
I’m not coming from the viewpoint of any human within the game. I’m looking at the situation from an external common sense point of view. In no way could Jennah be held responsible for Scarlets actions. Scarlet is the only one who can be held responsible.
The citizens of Divinity’s Reach are most likely extremely aware that the entire thing was caused by Scarlet, what with their city being invaded. The watchknights that ended up killing people hardly even resembled Jennah’s creations, it is pretty obvious that people are not going to associate the clockwork terror’s with Jennah…
If you want to suggest that there may be people in Tyria who will wrongly hold her accountable for the events then go ahead, I won’t argue that Tyria will have it’s fair share of idiots – but that is not what you were initially arguing.
Please don’t bring Germany and Hitler into this, there is a lot of complex stuff surrounding that… His election into power was not a case of people being illogical, there is so much more involved and you would have to look at ALL the facts (e.g. people who opposed him being murdered tortured etc, as well as what the kitten party supposedly offered germany vs. what they ACTUALLY offered germany). Real life history is a lot more complex and I don’t think Germans would appreciate their history being trivialized in comparison to a video game.
With Caudecus’ propaganda machines in the works, you will be surprised how many people start placing blame on Jennah for the watchknight massacre.
Like I said I don’t think Jennah will lose power right away. But this maybe one step in that direction.
This is how the living story should be. History is changing, one step at a time. This is like a chess game.
I mention Mr.H. only to prove a point about politics. In politics, what seems like “madness” and “foolishness” 40 years in the future could very well “make sense” 40 years ago. What seems “impossible” might very well happen.

Chips, you are flat out wrong.
A person cannot be held at fault for the actions of another.
Queen Jennah is not to blame for Scarlet stealing the Watchknights any more than she is to blame for Scarlets actions throughout the storyline. I’m stating a fact here, you may choose to see it otherwise and blame Queen Jennah, but you will be alone in that. The only person I can see thinking in the same way as you is Minister Caudecus, who is evil…
You are coming from the view that every human love Queen Jennah. This is far from the case. For example, a great portion of the human population still hates the Charr. Now we do not know the whole history of Tyria down to every minor detail. But people can hate Queen Jennah for a great number of reasons, some of them maybe unknown to the players right now.
And then the Watchknights killed thousands of civilians, before the players can stop them.
Now of course a person coming from the camp of “I Love Jennah” would not think this way. He will not blame Queen Jennah for this incident because you likes her.
For the other side, the “I hate Jennah” camp, this can escalate really quickly.
Is Queen Jennah actually at fault? Nope. But that doesn’t matter. All that matters is what the mob thinks and believes.
Now obviously Caudecus is evil. Everyone (the players) knows that. But he is also a very smart and cunning man. You see, he do not need to blame Queen Jennah for the watchknights. His agents can do it for him. Caudecus can actually “side” with Queen Jennah in the court, while working behind her back for her demise. All it takes is some rumour spreading and propaganda from the agents of Caudecus, and this whole thing can boil over.
And this is politics. Caudecus doesn’t need to actually revolt. A real cunning politician doesn’t need do that. He will win without a fight.
It should be obvious that people are rarely logical when it comes to politics. Mr. H. was elected as chancellor in Germany.
Will Queen Jennah actually losses power from the watchknight incident alone? Maybe not. But it maybe a step in a series of events, that eventually causes Queen Jennah to abdicate.
And this is why I love political lore. Things are not so simply black and white.
(edited by CHIPS.6018)
Watchknight 1.0 was a total failure. The automatic AI is too vulnerable to reprogramming. It should be cancelled.
Watchknight 2.0 will be a powered exoskeleton armor to be wore by human troops. This weapon must be wore by a human to function, and do not have a mind of its own. The human soldiers will get extra protection and firepower.
Watchknight 3.0 will be giant robots and walkers. Towering 10 stories high and more, these giant warmachines are designed to combat Charr tanks and airships. Each of these will be driven and controlled by 20 humans or more, operating its movement, power and weapon systems.

An evil psycho maniac stealing your creation doesn’t make YOU a bad ruler… You seem to be implying that had someone else been ruling then they would have been able to stop Scarlet, but that isn’t likely to be the case.
Her gift to humanity did not fail, she has created a really effective protector, it’s just unfortunately been hijacked – but that doesn’t mean that once Scarlet has been dealt with the Watchknights can’t be put to their planned use.
And in fact her actions and the actions of those she keeps around her in RESPONSE to Scarlets actions prove that she is a more than capable leader.
The queen is responsible. Ok maybe not total responsibility. But she cannot just wipe her hands clean from this. Whatever it is her fault or not, she will lose popular support over this.
The new weapon, that the queen personally promised will protect the humans, ends up killing thousands of humans. Of course the queen will lose popular support. Maybe not enough to make her abdicate right now. But it is a step in that direction.
What would “make sense” is a deep investigation into the Watchknight’s R&D facility. There is obviously a spy or two inside. Someone have to be hanged for this. The spy need to be hanged. And the director might need to be hanged for allowing this information leak.

I love dark themes. For example Aetherblades should carpet bomb Divinity’s Reach.
They should have a separate 70 men instance for each world boss.
If you fire 10000 bullets at a target, how much bleeding with he get?
Answer: 25 stacks.
For once I’m glad ANet doesn’t take ideas from the players. This is not only revolting, borderline psychopathic, but an utter nonsense of a plot at the same time – even Scarlet’s “let’s play mix ’n matching with xenophobic villains who hate everyone else but themselves” is more coherent.
And your explanation is located at…
Stop hating on the Humans seriously. Why would they blow up Divinities Reach? They already blew up Ascalon and sank Orr!!!
Its got nothing to do with human hate. Scarlet pick humans because its the best choice in breaking the Pact apart.
Hoelbrak – Not really a huge city. Most Norns lives outside of the city. Taking over Hoelbrak will have very little affect on the Norn sociality. They never believed in the “city” life style.
The Grove – The Sylvari is ruled absolutely by the Pale Tree. So the Pale Tree must change to change the Sylvari sociality. Bloodshed alone will not be enough to bring forth such change.
Black Citadel – This is too well defended. Black Citadel is probably the best defended of the 5 capital cities.
Rata Sum – It is already flying in the sky. That reduce the advantage of using airships against it. Dredge tunneling machines are useless against Rata Sum because it is flying. And finally, the Asurans might have some secret technologies to defendin against an invasion.
Divinity’s Reach – A densely populated city that relies on outdated walls for its defence. This city is the hub of economics and politics in the human sociality. Its lay out is ideal for carpet bombing. And there is already internal power struggles.

Like I said when thousands start dying the people’s opinion can change very rapidly. They want some sort of hope, and if Caudacus can convince the people that he is their salvation he will be the new leader. Caudacus doesn’t need to be the better leader, nor does the people have to love him currently. It is what happens after this carpet bombing that counts.
No one in Germany took Mr. H. seriously neither, before the great depression.
As for Caudacus leading a rebellion, yes that’s entirely possible. My prediction is just one of many directions that the story writers can take the story. But story wise I like mine better because I prefer anti-villains (e.g. Caudacus thinks he is doing the best thing for Kryta) instead of pure villains (e.g. Caudacus just wants money and power).

The way I see it Sylvari are like robotic AI. They are like Skynet. They look so perfect and helpful on the outside. But some day they will be the doom of us all. XD
A race that’s born purely good are easily manipulated into a force of pure evil. They do not even understand what it means to be good. They are programmed to be good. So it will be easy to program them into evil.

You know who would have been a much better villain? Ellen Kiel.
Not through being a mastermind who secretly and conveniently ties the previous LS events together, but through being a well-intending person who’s already earned our sympathy, sorely out of their depth and trying to react to these various problems, and failing due to inexperience and bad judgement.
It would have been dug in all that much deeper because we voted for her.
That kind of nuance is hard to find in GW2, though.
THIS, so much this. I’ve said the same thing to my guildmates for a long time. But unfortunately as you said, this level of writing, intrigue and nuance is not present in the writing of GW2. Sadly. It would make an awesome plot twist.
I want to see Logan Thackeray becoming a villain. Who wouldn’t want to see our perfect prince in shining armour fall into darkness?
Scarlet, PhD of mechanical engineering, PhD of biological genetic engineering, PhD of magi-tech, PhD of steam-punk tech, PhD of blacksmithing, PhD of Charr weaponry, PhD of portals and PhD of everyone’s secret past.
I gave her the title of Lore Slayer for good reasons.

I will also add that Living Story reward should be account wide. Right now everyone only takes one character though the Living Story because of the time limit nature on these events. So of course everyone will be using their primary favourite character.
If the reward for Living Story is account wide, it won’t matter which character they take to do the LS.
Fall damage traits are great for several classes, especially in WvW, while others might as well not exist. The muddy terrain for rangers is pretty much useless since jumping down onto an enemy where the enemy has reason to run from a ranger is just not happening that often, not to mention that the rangers pet is usually busy trying to find a safe path down to the ranger, and is of no help. “Why yes! I’ll gladly give up a chunk of dps for the ability to slow down someone who isn’t going to run in the first place!”
Warrior falling damage is awesome for reasons listed above. Thief damage is useful in similar situations. Again, for PvDoor, a ranger jumping down to cause muddy terrain around a mob that isn’t moving in the first place makes it somewhat moot.
If there are situations where this trait for the ranger is a noticeable advantage, I’d love to hear about it. It’s always seemed somewhat pointless to me.
Add Toxic Landing to the useless trait list. This is probably the most useless trait in the whole game.
Basically it comes down to this:
GW1 kept players playing by having multiple alt-characters. It was super easy to level up and max equip a new character. This means newbies zones are rarely empty, because veteran players will be bringing their alts though those newbie zones. Most players have a decent understanding of multiple classes, because they played though them all.
WoW kept players playing by power creep. It takes a lot of time and effort to max equip just one character. And so everyone have to focus on one character, that’s it. The newbie zones are emptied out very quickly, because veteran players do not have time to play an alt. Since most players only ever play though 1 class, they often have great misunderstandings on other classes.
I personally prefer GW1’s method. And so it was disappointing to see GW2 going toward the WoW method.
You’re missing a huge aspect of what kept people playing Guild Wars: the expansions. Every year we got what was essentially a whole new game; complete with a new story, new classes, new areas to explore, new skills, and new features. Don’t underestimate the amount of longevity the expansions added, or the interest they generated among non/potential players.
I don’t know about you, but I personally had 10 characters in GW1. So for me, the ease of leveling and max equipping an alt-character is one of the major reasons for me to kept playing GW1 for 7 years. I finished all 4 campaigns for so many times I don’t remember.
I also think there aren’t enough AoE weapons in this game. This really narrow the player’s weapon choices in WvW, where AoE is the only way to go in a zerg fight.
Take necro for example. Only its staff and scepter does AoE damage. Of the two, the staff is much superior than the scepter. So the necro players literally only have the staff to use for WvW zerg fights.

Carpet bomb Divinity’s Reach like I suggested. That would be enough hardship to be shared by everyone.
Why so much hate for Queen Jennah? She is anything BUT a failure, there’s no way that she would be seen as one given her many successes regardless of the Watchwork situation which undoubtedly could be pointed at somebody other than the Queen, too as it’s not like she’s the one who created them. People aren’t going to just forget the treaty, or the fact that the pact even came to listen about working together partially because of her, or the part where the Order of Whispers is extremely pro-Jennah and part of their job is to ensure the continued success of her reign. Or going back to the treaty, and the fact Ebonhawke would probably be in shambles by now and instead Charr and Humanity are helping each other re-settle the Ascalonian region.
Then you get to Minister Caudacus, who quite obviously is a very vile and evil man and by now many people would be very aware of this, especially following the story in CM and then the Order of Whispers where you find out just how vile and horrible he can be. Queen Jennah on the other hand is egalitarian and extremely popular so while I think your thoughts are interesting, they seem very one sided by disregarding all the successes of Jennah’s relatively short reign (she did, after all accomplish a lot of this in her late teens and early 20s). People just don’t operate that hastily against the very foundation and structure of their society without just cause. Not all that many monarchies have been disbanded because their nation was invaded, especially when the leadership has been quite successful and popular to that point. And you would have to take all of this into account, not just things that are largely out of her hands over the last 6+ months.
What I CAN see happening is Minister Caudacus moving for a coup against the Queen and possibly taking over against everybodies will in a sort of dictatorship, and then we have to fight back and remove him from power, restoring the Queen, or at least somebody of the royal family back to the throne should she die or something.
Also, I’d like to point out that this event is supposed to take place across ALL of the Tyrian region, not Kryta alone.
The popularity of a leader depends on his/her ability to keep her people safe. Once thousands starts dying, their popularity would drop dramatically.
As a real example, we can look at the monarchies in WW1. Kaiser Wilhelm of Germany, Franz Joseph I of Austria, Tsar Nicholas II and Mehmet VI of Turkey were all popular monarchs before the start of WW1. But toward the middle of WW1 as the war puts too much stress on their kingdom, and these countries suffers defeat after defeat, the population turns against them. That’s four monarchies dissolved by the end of WW1, with some on the “winning” side.
Another common misconception is that democratic republics are “awesome” right from the start. They rarely are. During the early years a republic often bring about more problems than it resolves. It was a dangerous time of a mixture of high ideals (traitors to our high ideals must die), nationalism (we are the strongest, so let’s kill the weak) and power struggle (I should be dictator not him). Examples includes France, Germany, Russia and China. USA was in fact an exception to the terrors often seen in other early republics.
And so nope I never said Minister Caudacus will be a good ruler. Neither did I ever said the change into Kryta Republic will lead to peace and prosperity. Its just the wheel of fortune turning and time is up for Queen Jennah.
Why would people want Minister Caudacus more than Queen Jennah? People choose the wrong leader all the time. That’s the same question as why did the people want Lenin and Stalin more than Tsar Nicholas II, and why the German people voted for Mr. H.

With the amount of explosive you’re talking about wouldn’t it be more effective to just use flame legion shamans in conjunction with the airship’s carpet bombing, with that much fire it could easily consume all of the oxygen in the city and those not killed by the explosives would suffocate from lack of oxygen?
They might very well use magic in addition to bombs for even more damage. Let your imagination run wild. XD
Where does she put the 50 airships?
They are currently hidden in north western Maguuma Jungle, north west of the production facility in Twilight Arbor. This area has not been explored by the current players.

clap clap clap.
At first format you chose to use to put your theory forwards with grated on me but about half way in it started to be entertaining and to top it all off allot of the idea’s you put forward are very well thought out, bravo sir, two thumbs up mark of approval.
Thanks man! ^^
I was thinking about where Scarlet will be using her airships. Then it dawn on me that an urban centre is the best place to use them. A compact population guarantees maximum casualty from carpet bombing.
