Need Level 40 Items from Tailor Crafting

CHOAM.7852

I have 8 out of 18 level 40 tailor recipes discovered when I checked at the crafting station, so there’s probably no overall bug with the craft. Which components are you using for discovery? And also check if you already discovered the recipe and maybe hid it through filters.

Need Level 40 Items from Tailor Crafting

CHOAM.7852

There are level 40 items, but they will not be the same stats set as level 35. For the most part, discoverable recipes for tier 2-5 goes something like this for all armor/weapon crafting.

Within each tier are 3 segments: X+(0-24), X+(25-49), X+(50-74)
Segment 1: Refining, 3 fine materials can be used to make different stat sets; fine gear produced is usesable at level Y
Segment 2: The other 4 fine materials can be used to make different stat sets; fine gear produced is useable at level Y+5
Segment 3: All 7 fine materials can be used to make master version of their respective stat set; gear produced is useable at level Y+10.

Segment 1 gear levels: 25, 40, 55, 70
Segment 2 gear levels: 30, 45, 60, 75
Segment 3 gear levels: 35, 50, 65, 80

Because of this patter, you will not be able to craft level 40 and 45 gear with the same stat set.

Why do Jewelers get hosed at 400?

in Crafting

Posted by: CHOAM.7852

CHOAM.7852

As a 400 in all crafts, I did notice that jewel crafting is the only one the requires ecto before hitting 400, but I do not believe this is “unfair”.

JC has been a lot easier to level up from the beginning, and besides cooking is probably one of the cheapest. We can literally get all our materials from 0-375 just from harvesting mining nodes. Further, JC should not be expected to fall in line with the other crafts as even our basic material differs from the other crafts in the first 4 tiers (copper without tin, silver instead of iron, gold instead of steel, platinum without primordium) and we do not use the fine crafting materials.

And, you know, all those other reasons previous posters listed as why JC is really not the same as other crafts.

But yeah it’s fine. I got my 400 JC with little hassle. Crafting a full set of rare jewelry isnt going to happen right away for most people though, and probably isnt worth bothering to do. Leatherworking I made myself multiple sets of rares right away for little cost (relatively).

I agree, crafting a full set of rare jewelry is not worth it, just craft enough to reach 400 and go straight for (or save for) Tier 6.

This is complete and utter crap that I am required to use exotic materials to create a LEVEL 65 rare item to level from 375 to 400, not only that but I can’t even break them down for a CHANCE to get the glob back.

This is not true. Tier 5 rare jewelry are level 80 to equip and can be salvaged for ectoplasm; I got 2 last night from an Emerald Mithril Ring (Rare).

These forums are really buggy when it comes to quotes, had to manually edit the tags a few times

You can also learn Jewelcrafting on your lvl 80 to buy the recipes with karma for your alt. You don’t actually need to do any Jewelry crafting, just learn the craft to purchase recipes.

I believe OP is trying to avoid the 40s retraining fee to go back to his real craft of Weapon/Huntsman that would result from temporarily picking up Jewelcrafting just to buy a recipe for an alt.

Linen: where?

in Crafting

CHOAM.7852

Linen? In 11-15? I don’t believe you.

Part of your loot scales to your level, regardless of the level of the kill (approximately half, from my experience). Some of those may be bags, which would give linens; some of those may be gear, which can salvage to linens.

So, naturally, to maximise tier 4 material drops, farm in maps that are about the same level range as the tier 4 armors (55-65).

Please fix Karma merchant from double selling items I have already purchased.

CHOAM.7852

I expect that most people spread their crafting out over 4 or more characters The problem occurs when one character is buying recipes for other characters mastering disciplines they don’t have. Remembering each and every recipe you’ve ever purchased is beyond most of us and it is cumbersome to have to swap characters to check whether a given recipe has already been learned.

Try pen and paper. Or check the karma merchant with the character that is intended to learn the recipe, even if they cannot afford the karma cost.

I do not think that merchants should be querying characters I am not on just to provide this little convenience, that just seems impractical.

For myself, I’ve gotten a lot more Orichalcum than Gossamer. Probably because I salvage all armors so I get Orichalcum from both nodes and salvaging.

Rare?? As my Grandmother used to say “rare as rocking horse ****” in fact I think that would be more common as I have yet to even see 1 Vanilla bean.
I have never run by a node wether it be mine/tree/herb without gathering it, none from the tons of bags I’ve opened so what is the real chance to get a Vanilla Bean 0.00000000000000000000000000001%?

I’m pretty sure I harvested nodes and opened bags less than 100,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 times.

I don’t get it, why would anyone make extra balls of dough instead of just as many as you need when the recipe calls for it? The only reason would be if someone mass produced them between 0-25, but that’d be poor planning. You can make a Ball of Dough at anytime as long as you can afford the ingredients from the Master Chef and have Eggs (which are collectibles). There is no reason to pre make and store common ingredients like that.

Compile cooking into mat bank...

in Crafting

Posted by: CHOAM.7852

CHOAM.7852

Cooking is already cheaper to level than any other crafts when it comes to acquiring ingredients, there is no need to create unnecessary collectible slots for every account and every craft. If I didn’t take all 8 crafts, I would not want to stare at pages of collections for crafts which I did not take.

When I leveled my Chef, I remember having extra intermediates and checked on TP to see if they are worth selling, they weren’t, that’s why I ate/destroyed them. Instead of taking up valuable vault space, you can just buy most of them back from the TP for a few coppers when you need them again. Chefs will still cost far less to level than crafts requiring fine materials even if you had to do this.

The other side of this would be of the intermediate is actually valuable, then list it on the TP for sale at a price that’s maybe 10%-20% above average. If it sells, then you can use the money to buy it back later at little or no loss. If it doesn’t sell before you want to use it, then you’ve only paid a small listing fee for the temporary storage of the intermediate. If the goal is to level a craft through discovery and not to actually mass produce the food at the end, then the stack size and listing fee should not be high.

Every craft has crafted intermediates that do not store in collectible tabs, there just happens to be more with the Chef. I don’t think there should be dedicated collectible tabs for what I do not really consider as “collectibles”. I just ate/destroyed extra intermediates after leveling past the recipes on the way up, there’s no need to store most things as they can be bought or remade for cheap.

How much vanilla is needed to go from 1-400 with the popular guides that all seem to use it? I found 5 in metrica and am debating farming and doing cooking myself or just having someone else make me food with what I find.

I used less than 10 without following a guide. I would not be surprised if there’s a way to bypass them completely if you don’t mind producing an XP’ing recipe with easier to access materials instead of discovering recipes requiring vanilla.

Newb field/finisher questions

in Elementalist

CHOAM.7852

I tried to Arcane Wave (blast finish) a Lava Font + Static Field, I only got the Might effect, and not the Quickness. The cast order was Lava Font, Static Field, Arcane Wave… given the obvious visual nature of Static Field, I am pretty sure I did not miss the time window.

Right after that, I tried Static Field, Lava Font, Arcane Wave, and got only the Swiftness bonus. So it seems to finish the first field it encounters.

This answers Q1, and may be the case for Q2 as well

I vaguely remember seeing a combo symbol popping up over my ice elemental once while it did that wave/blast move; not sure if it was actually the elemental, though.

CHOAM.7852

Well For me No and Yes, Ive been leveling my ele since the start up to lvl80 and yes i like the class but no they are not on par damage wise at 80 dont care what anyone say

Ive got full exotic crafted gear and exotic staff and i find the cursed shore hell. Im sorry but he person who said you can take 5 mobs there as a staff ele and wack them down quicker than any other class talks total bollocks in my oppinion (until proven otherwise).

I struggle to barely stay alive with one mob. unless you guessed it the mob happens to be a rissen wizard which uses the same skills as a ele. You can basically just stand there and knock em down

My main is a staff ele and I’ve played it for a while; I am still not very good at PvE even though that’s all I play, but here’s a video of me killing 5 Risens in Cursed Shore.

Edit: and another one

I will not claim that this was a fast kill; I wouldn’t call it easy, but it’s not so hard that I had to depend on a rally to finish it. What it does show is that an ele who makes quite a few mistakes can still take on 5 risens at a time; perhaps not continuously, since by the end of the fighting, my arcane shield still had 56 seconds cooldown, but it’s a far cry from struggling to survive one risen.

Here’s a list of the mistakes I made or handicaps I’ve imposed, a better player than me would have made it out of that battle in far better shape

  • 00:00 I decided not to use my elemental (elite), even though this would have been the ideal situation to use an Earth Elemental to tank.
  • 00:00 I decided not to use my undead slaying potion and food that gives me power, since not everyone uses the best consumables all the time.
  • 00:08 A Risen Villager off screen aggro’d on me, so I didn’t pull the original 5 I was sweeping my mouse over. It was intentional that I only started attacking after all 5 aggro’d though.
  • 00:15 Being pulled in by the Putrifier disrupted my flow, you could see my mousing slowly back towards the Static Field skill instead of using my keyboard. You will continue to see my dependency on my mouse to click skills, which some may consider a weakness.
  • 00:23 I stayed stationary after I activated the heal, I should have continued kiting.
  • 00:31 I aimed my Ice Spike too far ahead, but got lucky and still caught 2 out of the 3 surviving risens
  • 00:33 I did not immediately switch back to a higher damage attunement to finish off the final risen after using Geyser. Both Air and Earth attunements were ready for my use, I was probably trying to switch to Fire on my keyboard because I honestly am not a good ele who is equally comfortable in all attunements.

My gears and traits are shown at the end. I am not in full 80 Exotics, I have some 80 exotics, rares, and a 76 exotic I got from map completion. I also don’t have a rune set, instead I just use orbs… and a garnet pebble in my low level quest backbrace

So, that was me, playing the ele wrong, and taking on 5 risens.

Back to the OP: I am happy with my ele. I am excited every time I get an opportunity to pull off meteor shower to good effect (taking out graveling burrows in AC, getting credit on 20 mobs in a dynamic event with one cast, striking the Claw of Jormag on his head and both claws in one cast)

Trying to stop making all these mistakes is what motivates me to keep playing my elementalist, I’ve only PvE’d and still have much to learn before I would consider weighing in on an argument about whether it’s effective or not, but I can say I am enjoying it.

how much vanilla bean do you need to get past that hump? Just curious. Or will you use it till you get to onmonberry level?

Yea, I’ve been wondering the same. I used less than 10 vanilla beans getting from 0 to 400. I was able to bypass most rare harvest by using karma ingredients.

Yes, being new to the game, this is a real problem. Are we not supposed to participate in crafting until we reach level 80 or something? Or is this just a way to force those of us that want to do crafting to exchange gems for gold?

I thought the master chef NPC themselves tell the player they’d have to hunt for ingredients all over the world. Made sense to me that cooking is for higher levels to find the karma ingredient… or buying off trade post.

The other crafts are easier to level concurrently with characters.

Crafting material tooltip "Profession (123)" only for discovery

in Crafting

Posted by: CHOAM.7852

CHOAM.7852

For reference, this is the post I meant. This was before the discover tab also displayed items in the bank, so the context have changed since. Worth re-thinking.

Tooltips only report disciplines that the item can be used to DISCOVER recipes for, it does not report recipes that are unlocked through an item. So for instance, the Godskull recipes are all unlocked through a purchased item, so the skulls don’t report anything to the tooltip because they are only used for those recipes. Basically, just because a crafting material doesn’t list any disciplines in the tooltip, doesn’t mean it’s not used for anything. We did this for a few reasons, many because it allows us to have hidden unlockable recipes and because it actually reduced confusion a lot. We were finding that if we reported all recipes to the tooltip, even the ones that players couldn’t discover, it meant that players were spending a lot of time frustrated that they couldn’t figure out the ingredients for that last recipe or didn’t understand why it wasn’t showing up in the discovery pane.

Gathering tool question

A similar question – does anyone know how the master craft gathering tools work? I got one from a chest or personal quest or something and saved it for the higher tiers as I didn’t want to waste it on carrots and copper. When I used it later, I got ruined materials. Apparently it has an effective level, but it’s not indicated anywhere. It’s really annoying and now I don’t want to use it at all since I don’t want to experiment to find it’s level and ruin potential mats. I know it would probably not be a huge deal, but since I’ve outleveled the zones I would have used it in anyway, it’s kind of useless. Makes me sad, cause I was excited to see the green level gathering tool and thought I got something special.

CHOAM.7852

I don’t know if this observation is worth anything, but I am an obsessive collector who is preparing to begin cooking (after I master the other 7 crafts first, 4 left). I’ve not bought any cooking ingredient from karma vendors at any time (before or after nerf) but somehow have 25 vanilla beans and 15 cloves. I think I can corroborate ShadowbaneX’s message here that Sparkfly is a good place to get these items, since most of my time is spent on my 80 in Sparkfly and other 50+ areas.

Having said that, I don’t mean to say that everything is fine; vanilla is used in novice recipes after all.

I also reported this through the in game interface last Wednesday. In fact, I would say the problem is not just with Quick Glyph. The initial timer should not be 120 or 96 seconds, since the initial timer is supposed to show the duration of the elemental, it should always be 60 seconds. Then the actual recharge timer that comes after should be 120 without Quick Glyph and 96 with it.

That is how the lesser elemental glyph works. 60 seconds duration, variable recharge.
