HoT sparked my already keen interest in a great game. Gliding is awesome. I’ve enjoyed the multi-leveled and varied maps. The story could’ve been longer. Bloodstone Fen is a fun new map, and looking forward to Ember Bay.

I still enjoy the core maps , but not as much. I look forward to Tuesday and metal mayhem!

Just sayin. Dudes are advertisin that the new map is “metal”. The skulls and fire, yes. Karka, no. If you wanted “metal”, should gone for undead, demons, or dragons (dragons are more 80s metal, nowadays).

Someone probably just spelled “meta” wrong.

Nope it is definitely metal , watch the video \m/_ ( ) _\m/

Enter the true debate.

Does one counter the OP and their ridiculously obvious troll attempts, knowing that the thread will most likely be deleted, and their post gone forever?

Or does one not post, and simply enjoy reading the thread and the hilarity that ensues?

Discuss!

Usually sparring with them , seeing what they got is more fun. They usually abandon thread after the burn gets to be too much.

I’m weird and love to just kill mobs I find it therapeutic….weird I know.
Before I know it I’m in some location I’ve never been in and hours have passed, my only gripe is dim returns.
Sucks for people like me but I understand it has to be this way.

So you enjoy it but you don’t enjoy it?

No no, I definitely enjoy it I just dislike the diminished returns so I can’t be rewarded for enjoying it.

That’s when you map hop and do an event, kill other mobs, jump around and you will notice way better drops.

That trash mob you passed up? Had your precursor drop.

This is nonsense.

There are people with over 2000 hours that have killed every mobs, never seen a precursor.

There are people who started last week and found one on a mob they only killed for their daily.

The level of luck involved is so absurd that any advice “like killing them for increased precursor drops!” Is just flat out bad advice.

Like do you tell your friend if you buy 5 lottery tickets you have a good chance of winning? no you are still hundred times more likely to be struck by lightning on a sunny day. If you buy a lottery ticket expecting to win you are a moron.

Clearly you have no sense of humor. Sorry to trigger you.

Got my Dusk off a Level 6 Jungle Raptor Hatchling. I don’t kill every mob I see, but I don’t avoid them all, either. Also, when I’m looking for XP, those yellow mobs are sweet.

You never know what might drop. =)

This seems to be somewhat of a less-known secret. The longer a mob survives on the map, the higher its bonus exp value becomes. Yellow mobs tend to be ignored by most players, so they often rack up huge bonus exp values.

I’ve also gotten some really nice drops (a few exotics, many rares) off the yellow mobs. I also seem to have good luck getting t6 fine mats from them too.

Yellow mobs + boosters = an easy way to level up quickly

It is going to be rough on any one running burn as there main damage.

Hoping for a mastery or something. They can’t realistically proceed against Destroyers w/o solving the burning dps issue

Actually, I think they can. In Guild Wars 1 foes has strengths and weaknesses to various damage types. ArenaNet haven’t dipped too much into that in GW2. Dredge immune to blind, Destroyers to Burning and Husks have high armour against power based damage. Burning builds have been having a whale of a time against the Husks since Living World Season 2. Don’t forget that. Destroyers are the other side of the coin and players should have to think hard about how’s best to combat them, changing builds if necessary.

If Destroyers were immune to Confusion for example no one would care or have any incentives to tweak builds.

Maybe we will see a surge in water and chill based builds, that would be interesting.

So, like spell checker and thesaurus will do more damage?

Ouch. :P

And dangit, I actually got a little excited to see the recommendation of buffing open-world enemies. Turns out the suggestions were more silly than sincere. :|

I’m not thinking of a huge boost, either, just something to make the mobs a bit more engaging and easing the transition from, for example, level 50 to level 80. Tweak up the damage a little, though updating mechanics is really what’s needed. More enemy self-boons, a few more replications of class abilities, that sort of thing. That way, when players run into several pseudo-thief mobs in HoT, it’s less of a shock.

Just having some fun, that’s all.

I could see enemy mechanics being tinkered with , but not for the sake of pushing back other new content.

No, it isn’t worth it for you.

Yeah, seems that way. Shame.

I’m kinda salty that I put so much money into this game when I had a lot more disposable income/less responsibilities, only to be forced to pay for it again at a later date. Hate to sound self-entitled about it – I definitely believe in paying for entertainment but I was under the impression this game was buy to play, which I already did. And tbh I’m just looking for something to do when I’m bored, not an actual gaming investment. The game lost most of its spark for me in the first year, though I did enjoy the clockwork invasion things a while back.

To be clear, I bought HoT and I feel that it’s worth it for me, as I knew that besides the main content, LS and other updates would come along as well. I feel Anet should be paid for their work. The $50 average price tag is debatable. I don’t think it is fair to expect to pay once for a game and then continue to get the updates to it for free until the end of time.

CMM.6712

Hi,

I played this game since beta but got bored of it, and was rather put off (a little bit sour) by the fact I had to pay full price for the game again at the HoT update, after financially supporting the game as best I could with gem purchases over the years/months since release…

Anyway I’m wondering if there is any worthwhile content for me to return to without paying any more than I already have? I didn’t buy the HoT expansion. If I return will it be the same old grinding repetitive events in Orr and tediously dull dragons for trash items? Is running off a cliff for 10 minutes still the PvP meta game?

I tried to play a few months ago, took one look at the guild halls update and logged off after about 20 minutes. I see there is a new update approaching, are we going to have to pay full price for this one as well? Is it only for HoT players?

No, it isn’t worth it for you.

So if there are any devs looking at this thread… I can only speak for myself but I don’t think I’m on only player that would appreciate seeing some of the new tech come to the core game. Along with the stuff at the top I would like to see…

-Spiders that jump on your face and pump poison though your eyeballs
-Jotun that smash the ground so hard a wave of earth knocks you to the ground
-Enemy casters that create physical barriers that can be destroyed or jumped over
- Ettin that beserk
- Imps that use chrono magic
- Cave trolls that can create darkness like the cave in TD
- Krait capable of using reaper shrouds
- Ogre druids!

Haha! Yeah… and skritt that steal your pants.

What? I can’t be the only one who’s thinking it.

Please keep your Skritt fantasies out of the MS Word buffing thread, thank you.

Playability without Heart of Thorns

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: CMM.6712

CMM.6712

There are four big things I would miss without HoT:

  • Gliding — this mastery is so much fun and it changes how I get around (e.g. for map completion).
  • True Auto-looting — this is a game changer for me. The core game allows you to easily loot drops within range, but it requires remembering to press a key repeatedly, in all circumstances. Simplifying this so that loot auto-drops into inventory is also game changing for me.
  • Profession Elite specs — these are also a lot of fun. While they aren’t anything close (in my opinion) to essential for playing the core game, they change how I relate to the game.
  • The new maps and new story — after playing the game since launch, having new distractions was important to my continuing interest.

Now, if you aren’t enjoying the core game, none of this stuff is important; they won’t make the game fun enough. However, if you already like the game, then plunking down US$50 is (again, in my opinion) well worth it for the above elements.

I agree, well said.
