it’s like Lazaar says, the icons ar emost likely placeholders for when the actual items go into effect – or they use that icon for specific actions or events (like ‘dance for queen jennah’ using the mini jennah icon.) for instance, the datamined elementalist sword skills are just the dagger skills carried over for now as placeholders, likely changing as they actually work on it. this is how game developers keep their work organised.
^ shield seems to heal and remove conditions and most likely block cause yea.. shields sorta do that i guess. Im actually really curios about the shield.
Yeah, it seems that one skill has aoe heal+condi removal. But we cant say a kitten about second ability. It might as well be some dps move. Btw dagger seems to have a block with counter ability just like staff
speaking off.. that thing got extremely short range, gotta be a melee weapon (or its still placeholder skills and stats dunno)
that’s what i thought as well, given its auto has a whirl finisher.
I prefer the jars of bees….they actually do damage to fractal bosses like Mai tren when her shields up. No joke give it a shot.
You’re just asking for yet another item to be disabled in dungeons and instanced content…
….not my fault bees are the almighty 50-60 per tick damage dealing gods to all bosses. They’re bees. Bees will bee.
“What’s this?! a steam-punk pirate fight with a dangerously low population of bees? Sounds like a job for…”
most likely we’ll get festival/holiday stuff from days past – perhaps letting out SAB for a bit or allow access to the Crown Pavilion Arena again. and as others have stated, perhaps a wvw tournament or stuff.
personally i think that the skills are placeholders until the team actually gets around to creating unique skills – apparently they’re just getting to the ‘weapon’ phase and are planning out what each special gets. it’s more of those ‘dev notes’, like with how the unfinished revenant stuff has double brackets to state what they want it to do so far.
-snip-
I imagine that the artwork could have been used as a basis on a remodel for mursaat while saving the ‘chronomancy’ for mesmer specials.
i’d rather wait for something concrete, like a demonstration of specializations, than just a ‘this is what we’d like to do’ and i imagine specializations is the harder one to tackle due to testing balance issues – both with self and monsters/other professions and their specializations as well.
the best way for them to introduce a new race or two would be to start a whole new personal story, and it would have to make sense for them to have that story and to be there as well. (say, tengu becomes a playable race if cantha is made available – they would be struggling to reclaim their homeland. makes sense to have a personal story there.)
otherwise they don’t bring much to the table, as stated in several interviews.

Here’s how i see them personally:
Shiro – DPS (painfully obvious)
Glint – mobility (The zephyrite aspects are often attributed to Glint, so i imagine the skills will allow you a wide range of mobility and CC like immobilize or slow – yes slow and not cripple)
Ventari – Boon/support (Ventari is almost painfully a supportive type – even his ascended inscription shows so. As such i can see clerical/support abilities from his stance, possibly even buffs. might pair well with the ultra violent Shiro stance.)
i just noticed something though, that the sword skills don’t specify a number of targets on its chain attack, just number of impacts. this makes me think the sword will be used as a single target multi-hit weapon, whereas the mace is meant for multiple targets. (skill 1 deals normal damage, skill 2 hits and unleashes an impact. skill 3 hits and unleashes 2 impacts. if each impact is a separate hit then that would be 6 hits total in one chain. obviously this would be OP if it could hit 3 enemies normally.)
as placeholders though they could completely change after this to something else.
personally i will be making a human, likely Male.
for me the reason goes back to guild wars 1 – that he’s the descendant of two of my main characters, my warrior and my Elementalist. The one thing i stuck with for my elementalist back in the day was to get him every single ‘magical’ spell/skill in all of the expansions and from all of the professions, which i have succeeded. a favorite elite that i liked to use in PvE was the revamped Master of Magic along with Elemental lord right afterward and a plethora of various magic skills. thus for the descendant of my warrior and ‘master of magic’ character to be able to tap into the mists makes sense – a powerful magical background. (He/she will also be a noble due to the krytan civil war against the white mantle long ago and their part in it, and the family line has proven loyal and reliable since.)
What I’d really like to see are more creative skins for different weapons. We already have things such as the anchor skin for a hammer, the scythe for a staff, and the slingshot for a shortbow. It would be tricky with some animations, but they could totally give us a whole plethora of new weapons just by applying unique skins to a pre-existing type:
Nunchucks (dagger)
Crossbow (rifle, pistol)
Flail (mace, hammer)
-nunchucks i really don’t see working out too well for the same reason flail would work great for a mace skin.
-crossbow skin would need several animation changes to be viable. the slingshot is just the much better alternative.
-and the flail would be such an easy yet interesting skin to pull off for the mace. just look at the silly sword and its wild animation, all of the chain based weapons like Spirit Links. The flail would be such an easy skin to pull off – just put the ball on the end as having weight and apply physics to it and the chain. with how the mace animations work they wouldn’t need to change any attack animations either.

i think you mean ‘boycotting HoT Info/Spoilers’
dueling is not what makes people say no.
it’s the crowd that it draws that do so.
for a moment i thought this thread was going to be about the band ‘Red Hot Chili Peppers’
honestly all i will say is this:
Grind exists in every game possible.
you grind for more levels
you grind for skills
you grind for gear
you grind for anything really.
the difference is in the level of grind. many people associate grind with lots of hard work for days on end. for games like WoW that is required. here we have grind for skins primarily, and skins are completely optional. every person has a different level of grind they can handle, some can only stand a little while others can stand a lot.
the mistake here is in the reward. if they really wanted to make a no-grind philosophy then they shouldn’t have introduced ‘legendaries’ yet they have done so. they should have made those skins fairly accessible but they wanted to appeal to those wanting a high-grind lifestyle.
yet at the same time if they made everything low-grind then the game wouldn’t have any replay value at all would it? a conundrum.
what would then be their solution? make legendaries/good skins easier to acquire? make ascended easier to make? remove them? create an alternative method to acquire them, and if so how would it be balanced?
They dug too deep …
Guild wars 3: main antagonists – demons from MORIA
If they do have it as an activity like keg brawl, it probably be the same mechanic to access. You speak to an NPC and get assigned to an arena.
exactly – it could even be an enclosed space like the queen’s gauntlet in crown pavilion – someplace other players can look and enjoy the show while people duke it out. and a balancing mechanic could simply render all equipment stats and upgrades null, setting both duelers to rely purely on their traits, choice of skills and weapons. this creates a far more even playing field for two people to duke it out 1v1.
i’d totally sit in the stands and just watch random duelers all day.
So if all stats and gears are locked, what’s the difference from SPVP then?
If you want a fair fight, pvp is already the place to go.
ah but not much in a 1v1 option ne? besides, it would be a unique trait, like how LA is the hub for the mystic toilet.

The problem is that it is usually those people that are posting (happy people usually don’t post about being happy after all), and it is those people that are getting heard or seen by the larger internet. Which hurts both the game and ArenaNet as a company.
I guess my point is that there wouldn’t be so many unhappy frustrated people posting on the forums if ANet communicated more clearly. And ANet is completely missing out on a chance for the internet to see them working hard to communicate with their players, which would vastly improve their reputation as a company.
How many unhappy posts are in regards to being upset with being kept in the dark with no communication or information? Now imagine the forums without all those posts because ANet finally decided to communicate.
Now…doesn’t that make the forums a happier place? :-)
no matter how you slice it there is always going to be a group of someones out there who will be unhappy with how the cake was cut. and misery loves company so those people will make it seem like a larger deal than it really is until they get what they want, which in turn makes another group of someones unhappy.
kitten happens. deal with it. it is almost a rule of nature by now that calamity will strike at the most inopportune times.
i say forgo those and add in a pet last seen from GW1 – the hound of balthazar
fudge the fact that they’re part of an elite skill, i loved having the hounds for my warrior.
if that can’t be granted, then at least allow either the phoenix or the Rainbow Phoenix for Gold and Achievement Reward respectively. (buy the regular phoenix from one of those shady black market traders. rainbow phoenix as a home instance tameable pet after getting its respective achievement/collection finished.)
What about the off hands: Focus, Shield, Torch, Warhorn?
1h Focus, but no 2h Focus
1h Shield, but no 2h Tower Shields
1h Torch, but no 2h Flaming Tree
1h Warhorn, but no 2h Didgeridoo/Bavarian HornsNow just imagine a 2h Bavarian Horn bellowing out on the wall of Stone Mist Castle…Riiiiiiicola anyone?
1 – i consider this the ‘dagger’ of magical items. why no 2-handed dagger? ohwaitthatsagreatsword
2 – this honestly has its own argument line and has had several threads about it. take it up there.
3 – honestly this would wind up as just a staff skin rather than an actual torch weapon.
4 – this might give anet an idea for a new gemstore instrument rather than an actual weapon. please abandon this thought train before we’re introduced to gongs and tubas.
Apart from a few new animations: what would 2H axe add to the game that isn’t already there? I mean, do you see a missing mechanic due to 2H axes not being implemented?
given how they inverted some of the mechanics of the hammer with the new profession, i’m sure Anet could find a way to make great-axes unique, such as making it a DPH weapon rather than DPS – a spike weapon. axe is nice but it often feels more like a build-up weapon, even with warrior having Evicerate.
maybe they just feel those legends? anyone can learn about legends and history, but they wont be Revenants… the difference will be what you can’t see, obviously not everything can be learned, you need some natural power to be able to do it…
and if you want to know it too, go check the wiki
for a silly story i just imagine a revenant has legends ‘possess’ him and wear him like a cheap suit of armor at their whim – often at random.
“And so i told the bartender that he can shove-I HAVE RETURNED! >:O”
So a very very cool armor set from the lore of GW2 is added to the game, the armor of one of the gods… and it’s in the gem store AND it’s an outfit.
Thanks for ruining this, ANet.
hey it could be worse. it could be a medium armor only set as a nod to the dervish.
The game has no polearms, crossbows, javelins, throwing stars and tactical nukes either. So?
I do not see we should have all weapons concieved to man unlocked here. We charge at flamethrowers with our swords in hand… people run through meteor showers and stand in the middle fighting daggers vs staff… I see people fighting cannons with arrows… There is quite a big variety already.
Let’s wait for the new and improved cloaked trinity flagship and enter the stealth era..
Primarily i see great-axes as a way to fill in the ‘gap’ in terms of weapons, just as Revenant filled in the ‘gap’ in terms of armor class numbers.
We have 1 handed and 2 handed bullet weapons (pistol and rifle)
we have 1 handed and 2 handed swords (sword and greatsword – not counting daggers)
we have 1 handed and 2 handed blunt weapons (mace and hammer)
we have 1 handed and 2 handed magical weapons (scepter and staff)
We have a 1 handed axe… despite the warrior icon itself showing a great-axe.
so it would be awesome to see them have a great-axe as one of the features for the next xpac. (and no i’m not going into ‘double torches’ or ‘double warhorns’ as that would be utterly silly even for anet. and double shields has its own argument line.)
scarlet was a master engineer – an example of what an engineer could do at their apex.
is this deserving of legend? no. in the end she was the pawn of a dragon. moreover she wouldn’t have any ‘powers’ that could carry though the mists save her intelligence, as most if not all of her combat abilities involved the devices she invented. Moreover, the engineering profession utilizes methods to replicate desired effects via science and technology with little or no investment in magic necessary. as the revenant is a magic using profession, this can cause complications.
the reasons i dont think tomes will be disabled for revenant leveling:
*the same ‘insta-80’ can be achieved in a few hours via crafting
*one can join a borderlands run to gain tons of exp – and karma too. all you need is a hammer.

i’d like to see these 2 get grandmaster as well. perhaps ‘ascended’ foodstuffs could get unique effects – say 33% chance for fury and might on critical hit and +15% boon duration. besides, we have yet to get a use for crystalline ingots and xunlai electrum.
who knows, we might be totally wrong and it turns out grandmaster adds some radical new element to the crafting professions.
i can’t remember where but there was an object in one of the new maguuma areas that, once i interacted with it, used my characters portrait and name during dialogue. it was one of those internal monologues so it was pretty cool
Mine is that they’re making sure the new option of hiding Engineer kit backpacks works as intended
Crazy conspiracy theories and LIES! We all know that would make the Engineer totally OP…
LIES AND SLANDER! we know that they’re buffing necro to the point of being almost OP. True Masters of DEATH!!!!11111
I don’t have this option on my character select screen. Is this only for VIP players?
get 75 CoD achievements on your console then open up GW2 in your console. this class is then unlocked.
is it worth my time to work on the fine infusions with both a stat and agony resistance or would i be better off with just the simple agony infusion? does any of the stats make a difference?
i’d love the outfit – except my engi is a charr. (head should be hilarious though)
regardless i can totally see this as an engi specializtion one day. my engi is already suited like a commando. (grenades, rifle, medpac, etc.)
personally i’m still waiting for rangers to get blindfolds.
for a second i thought the title was ‘Shoop da woop and GW2’
i vote we remove the player character from all future story content. problem solved.
of all things i just want them to be able to dual wield swords (and have it not completely suck.)
though that off-hand axe is tempting.
Am I the only one that couldn’t care less about revenant and instead is very interested about specializations? We couldn’t even get a glimpse about them and this makes me really sad.
i’m also interested. I imagine that revenant was chosen to be shown first due to hype, the fact it’s just one profession instead of 8, and lastly they might also like to show the revenant spec along with the other 8 when the time comes. (doesn’t make sense the show the specialization if you don’t have a basic understanding of the core class.)
my answer to you, OP:
Why not both?
honestly what OP has said i personally disagree with. all living world stories from here on deal with maguuma specifically? Have you learned nothing from the first season? Personally I think each living story arc will be towards each dragon – that after mordy is killed we’ll likely be moving slowly on to the next dragon, likely Crickey – i mean, Kralky. I hope it takes a different turn than another mary-briar storyline.
Will this mean each dragon encounter will be gated behind expansions? it’s a very likely scenario. but that doesn’t mean vanilla tyria will remain exactly as it is from here to the last update. Lions arch has shown that the current world you know right now may not be the same world you know in, say, 1-2 years from now. There are other major forces in the world outside of dragons, and those are the ones that have the easiest path to influence vanilla tyria. And i’m not even mentioning the fallout from the discovery that sylvari are dragon minions (we all know everybody will know eventually anyway.)
TL;DR – quit being so melodramatic. doesn’t mean there won’t be updates to other parts of tyria.
Apples.. apples for sale!
Ask me about an apple!
What part of secret organization don’t you understand?I love tybalt
Lightbringer Tybalt Leftpaw: Burn me, I’m a human girl! Whoa, I’ve got two hands and some lovely…apples.
Lightbringer Tybalt Leftpaw: Oh, wow. How do humans walk without tails?
Captain Conerry: Well, hello there, lovely. Are you here to board my barge? Heh. Heh.
Lightbringer Tybalt Leftpaw: Oh, brother. I fought off Ministry Guards for this?
Captain Conerry: Come aboard miss. Right this way. It’s a pleasure to have such a pretty young thing gracing the Harpy’s Smile.
Lightbringer Tybalt Leftpaw: Tee-hee-hee. What a bold sailor you are. I’m all a-swoon! You really should be shot for making a girl blush so badly. I mean it, buddy. Shot!
Welcome to the ugly side of DR.
This happened before in the past. Whole dungeon runs on all three paths suddenly stopped dropping a single treasure chest.
When this happened before people didn’t resist it they knew what the culprit was and they demanded it be fixed but I think we need to go a step furter.
DR needs to be removed entirely because when have you ever played a tabletop MMO or a console game and had it retroactively take away the loot you just found?
That’s exactly what DR does in this game, it makes it gone.
Oh and to those who keep saying it’s RNG, RNG actually let’s you get something, it might not be what you want but it’s something. DR makes it so that that something doesn’t exist for you and in the case of their account system, doesn’t exist for your account.
Any chance you could sanitize and then give me your tinfoil hat? I need it for a brisket I’m making tonight. Events like Teq and Wurm do NOT have DR unless you specifically farm those events with a single character who remains parked on that map indefinitely. Also, go read the patch notes about the dungeon changes that removed duplicate chests from dungeons (ie the ones you can get BEFORE you select a path).
Furthermore, how many times do you need devs to come on the forums and say absolutely zero information about your account affects your drops, like, imploding the known universe because you divided by it, zero. Seriously.
They came on here for 9 whole months telling us that the loot problem we had was all in our heads then too but it turned out to not be. How many times do you have to be mislead whether intentionally or not before you learn when you’re being mislead? Learn is the key word here. It’s happened before twice now. So tell us all again how it’s our imaginations when it’s the same thing three times? yeah….I thought so.
it’s your imagination.

yes in fact the gliders are tied to the jump button. just press jump when you’ve fallen a certain distance and it will deploy. (right now it’s about when you start screaming, they hope to make it earlier.)
Not new skills but as Electro said, some of their existing skills will be reworked and rebalanced.
Now that is great news! Here’s to hoping that Explosives out side of the use of grenades is reworked! I would love for mines and bombs to be useful again in PVE (without being in a healy spec that is)!
oddly enough i found the bomb kit is a killer underwater melee weapon. since skills work faster underwater, i can just go up to – say rhendak – and spam auto with a hit every half second, like a constant hundred blades. it becomes insane when i have quickness on.

My only wish for the Revenant is that if they insist on coming up on new ways to use awesome heavy weapons (i.e. long range GS for Mesmer, long range Hammer for Revenant) is that they also make some sort of melee staff. Now I have no idea how they’d do it or if it’d be viable, but I think the animations would be really sweet and would definitely match the Revenant; think of how cool it’d be to have lances or polearms.
that was my thought as well – that the revenant specialization will also give them staves, but used as a melee weapon instead of a long range/buff weapon.
I would love if they removed the Guardian Shield skills (and replace them with something useful in PvE)
Also,I wish Warrior sword wasnt a condition damage weapon, such a waste of stats on a Warrior. (imo)
This. I found sword more useful on guardians and shields more useful on warriors. I hope i can consider putting shields back on my guardian again soon. :/ (although i found a pretty good sword build for warrior.)
My money is that “Mursaat” actually means “Exalted” in their language.
very true! they do seem like the ‘high and mighty’ type.
