Jade Sea status: still frozen?

in Lore

Carlin Sanders.3587

The way I see it is that Shiro’s curse still has lingering after effects – some that just simply can’t be cured even with the removal of the curse. Powerful magic leave lasting marks even long after the magic has faded, so it may be that the jade sea will be more like canyons and ridges with water flowing through them rather than thawing out completely. same with the echovald forest – many trees remain petrified even though new plant life begins to grow.

Home Instance: Becoming a real home.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Carlin Sanders.3587

Carlin Sanders.3587

I think it would be better if, say, a home instance was where you could pick up a single temporary partner. say the order representative who stays in your homestead. to others they’re just ‘(order) partner’ but you see their name. not Op but able to provide ample support.

Another idea is something like unique structures or functions, ranging from cosmetic RP stuff (addressing your Krewe in Rata Sum or drinking at the bar for Divinity’s reach, having a small musuem of artifacts from dungeons you’ve completed, etc.) to more unique functions that have use – personal Pact airship or transport platform that drops you off at unlocked waypoints for free as a reward for finishing your PS.

Just some ideas on how home instances can have function but remain uniquely attractive.

I may not have understood this correctly, so please correct me if I’m wrong.
Regarding the current Personal Story. This will now be locked away and only available for level 80 characters to repeat?
This means characters below level 80 won’t be able to play this, and level up with the XP from it.
It also means an end to key farming, unless you can replay the level 10 story for keys (which I doubt)?

no, the level 80 thing is just being able to choose between having your PS as the active story or the current LS as the active story quest. characters lvl 79 and under just can’t participate in LS quests until they hit 80 – due to difficulty.

PS is unlocked as you progress normally but isn’t replayable at this time (due to the fact it has permanent decisions to make)

Actually I like the recent updates we’ve been getting. I imagine this is basically their way to ‘answer’ a lot of complaints and requests that they’ve been getting. From a business standpoint I can see why they would wait until now to give players what they want without rehashing GW1 instead of doing it in while season one was still live. since season one is over it gives them more time to work on the ‘system’ and relax their ‘two weeks’ schedule a bit to allow for more polishing and whatnot. (Of course they also can’t wait forever exactly hence the festival to keep us game drones entertained while they work.)

Plus adding additional objectives feels sort of like both the bonus objectives from guild wars 1 as well as an achievement system they can put in for missions. (say you’re being shelled by large rockets and some of them don’t explode. you grab it and throw it back at the mortar that shot it before it explodes for the ‘hot potato’ objective. even being able to reward silly titles this way like ‘training dummy’ for managing to be hit with every single mortar shell fired.)

Overall I like the direction they’re going right now. sort of making up for past mistakes-ish.

that can be arranged.

Mini collecting = in-game hobby?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

To me, collecting miniatures sounds a bit like stamp collecting IRL. I think this could be something devs could add in to help us pass time – in-game hobbies we could do. (hunting griffons was a great pastime in tyria after all.) Maybe even have something of a joke with it. (just add tons of collectable environment stuff you can display in your home instance or something. like butterflies. or largos wings… even just turn trophies in-game into an actual trophy item you can put on display.) as odd as it would sound for a charr to have a butterfly collection.

That Isn’t true at all . Although there were Tengu in Cantha their origins were in Tyria .

This is from the Wiki
“When the Great Tsunami of Zhaitan’s rise occurred, the tengu across the world saw it as a sign to return home and traveled to Tyria, a descendant of Talon Silverwing leading a charge through Zhaitan’s risen forces. When they reached Tyria, they built the Dominion of Winds which resides in Kryta over what was once known as Sanctum Cay. "

while true, the fact that, as far as we know, they style themselves similarly to canthan culture leaves something more here.

i will lul if it turns out silverwings descendant is the tengu emperor though. XD who knew the berserker tengu warrior would have a line of thinkers.

I imagine that these races would be tied to world expansion.

Tengu – return to cantha/rebellion against the xenophobic emperor. they would be playable as not only is their home then accessible but they would most likely ask at least one of the greater races/pact in their struggle to return home to cantha. this also means that, since they’ll need to design the tengu homeland, they’ll need to use an architecture style similar to cantha itself.

Largos – a lot of people tied this in to bubbles, and i believe that this will play a part as we expand to elona – that maybe bubbles has finally gotten close to the surface and are driving the majority of largos to said surface. in order to fight this enemy, they need to adapt and to learn from the races who have succeeded in this. and where has bubbles chosen to surface? right on top of istan. which would kitten off joko to no end as he already had to deal with zhaitan and kralkatorrik. so he would probably allow ‘heroes’ to ‘visit’ to deal with this. and then kick them out once they aren’t useful to him or they start problems. (order of whispers would like pact forces to remove palawa i imagine.)

all complete speculation on my part though. that’s it.

you know, i can wear exotic gear all day and steam roll 90% of people in wvw. so, yes. im complaining about a 10% situation. but the thing is, it has nothing to do with the 10% scenario, it’s purely the principal of having such a gear treadmill which kitten es people off.

and once again we refer to the fear of ‘adding more tiers to infinity.’ a fear that people seem to ignore the answer to strangely enough, and make up their own in a frenzied paranoia.

the only additional tier they would add would be ‘legendary.’ so you people finally have your ‘final final final’ tier of equipment – since legendaries will be updated to match top tier gear. speaking of which, it will be very interesting to see how legendary trinkets will turn out. (bloodstone earrings lul. or dreamer unicorn rings. double lulz.)

now stop with this whole gearmill nonsense. keep calm and carry on.

I wish people would stop spreading disinformation about GW1 already. 15k GW1 armor had the SAME stats as 1,5k and the SAME as obsidian or any other max armor.
Legendary had the SAME stats as exotic. Ascended was not needed in any way and goes against everything explained in numerous blog posts and interviews over the course of several years.
And no i wouldnt salvage my exotic weapon if it was max stat. Exotics required enough effort for most people. Especially if you wanted to have a fully geared character or god forbid alts.

Ascended was not brought in to do “a job”. It was brought in to please a subset of players that were complaining or leaving in droves – the same people that wanted GW2 to be more like WoW.

Unfortunately these same players can not be pleased. Ever. Once they have their chars geared out in ascended they will either demand new shinies again or leave.

ANET is doing the same 2 stupid things most companies in the last decade tried to do: trying to cater to everyone and trying to do what WoW does best.

so you’re argument there is basically about quality difference. why not complain about the difference between normal items and ascended then, or fine and exotic? and as for exotics if it was something i didn’t have a use for i would salvage it(whats better than buying ectos? free ectos.) or sell it on TP if it was something like berserkers heavy armor. i only made what i would use and just lived with what i had. ascended i would hold onto instead. that kind of difference.

and as for appealing to WoW players i’d say yea and nay.

I sense much anger in you young one. that is good. you shall need it for the trials ahead of you.

Except Elite Sunspear Armor was statwise no better than level 20 Canthan Armor. It was the truest form of horizontal progression. You farm mats to look pretty. Initially Gw2 did the same thing with dungeon armors. Farm tokens. Look pretty. There was no real stat gain between dungeon and non-dungeon exotics.

So yes, fancy fancy, right. Except all you got from expensive Armor were tighter abs, more cleavage or a longer blade. You didn’t really gain anything else.

elite sunspear. lulz, that armor was horrid on a couple professions. but going on.

As I found – and demonstrated in wvw – that having all ascended doesn’t necessarily mean you win against someone who only has exotics. moreover again is this mentality of ‘not being the best so you’re crap’ persona everyone has. In WoW it may be true but not here.

1 piece of gear will make no difference what so ever. But if you match up 2 players of equal skill…

1 in full exotics

1 in full ascended

The player in full ascended gear will win because they have the most/best stats…I’m talking about a wvw scenario here.

In pve, who cares about the implementation of ascended gear. Noone, it’s a “goal” for pl to shoot for. It’s when you start to look at wvw and ascended vs exotics that things get mis matched.

So in the sense of fighting players of equal skill in wvw. Your are 100% required to have full ascended gear to be able to compete.

statistically yes.

skill wise no.

i’ve met some people who already have ascendeds on an enemy team in wvw. i had nothing but exotics. this guy had full ascended. it was a tough tussle – his build was solid – but i managed to get him to the ground.

end of line.

Have gw1 fans forgotten the name of the fancy versions of armor you got on prophecies? does ‘ascended’ armor ring a bell?

exotic was designed to do a job – make top tier something that required effort so that people can actually appreciate what they have. it failed. so they had to bring in ascended to do that job. (would you salvage an ascended weapon? in comparison, would you salvage an exotic? and why?)

edit: and have we forgotten the point of why skill point scrolls exist? are we going to cry and whine when they introduce new skills into the game that seem better than the current meta? of course we will.

I personally don’t see what all the fuss is about. people seem to be under the impression that they need to get ascended weapons ASAP or they will be crap.

those times stated by OP can be cut up into chunks. you don’t need to get it right now but all these people who are so used to being and staying top tier, who were once mindwashed into geargrind and are now phobic about it are making a lot more drama than it really calls for. My friend in WoW used to spend weeks to get one character geared up with the best possible gear because he had that same mind state – that if you’re not top geared at all times you are crap.

31 hours is a lot better than say four weeks for the same gear. Count your blessings people.

and as an example you can cut that 31 hours into, say 2 hours a day. it’ll take longer but the feeling of grind is reduced. it’s just something you do maybe once a day and move on to something else that entertains you. or if you’re bored and have nothing to do, spend more time getting materials that day. You can’t exactly do this with WoW. (unless you were fine with being top gear when you’re old and balding. or worse.)

You all misread something.

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Magdaer

“It is said that if Magdaer or Sohothin returns to Ascalon City in the hands of an heir okitteng Doric (the only known descendants being Queen Jennah and Commander Samuelsson), then the spirits of the Ascalonian ghosts will be put to rest.”

This makes sense as King Doric was responsible for pretty much any human magic, or magic associated with the bloodstones. And remember that, in guild wars 1, adelburn claimed the throne from another king who went mad. This says that adelburn and rurik are not proper descendants okitteng doric, so thus either Jennah or Samuelsson needs to have sohothin or magdaer in hand. And remember, Samuelsson never said which line of ascalonian kings he descended from.

And before any of you say ’don’t trust wiki’ remember that they used this exact line when they announced the timeline history of guild wars 2 during its development and kept it to today.

(edit: and it edits king because of f and kin in king. -_-")
