Just like on the current professions, you will start at level 1 when you create a new Revenant character. We want it to be easily accessible for anyone with Heart of Thorns which means not putting it behind unnecessary content gates.

So essentially the story-line for guildwars 2 is pointless to pay attention to . Good to know .

as it is right now? yeah. post claw island it makes little sense, and often contradicts itself. until its fixed, whoop de do.

Revenant's starting zone?

Or how about when I create a Revenant of Race X, then I start out as a level 1 character of race X in their starting zone? Awesome.

Some people care about the lore, unlike you i do . So if you wana make everyone happy; Just make an opening instance like you did with waking from the dream, and the other starting points and just have it go through a small instance which just introduces you to the class. Seriously; Its not that big of a thing , its just tells the story of how you got there . Sure other races would be there; But do you honestly think you would remember some random chaar who fought beside you ? Nah. I Think coming from the mists is better than just some generic beginning we have seen a crap ton .

so you’d want a change that also fits lore. in that case, i’d like to start with over 1K gold each time i make a human with a noble background.

2 hours of silverwastes chest farming will give you enough T7 mats to make an entire set.

my main holdback was getting empyrial shards. after about a couple SW farms i now have 15 stars worth, ankitten ow sitting on about 70 dragonite ingots and 40 bloodstone bricks.

I figure if i keep it up eventually i’ll have 250 of each by the time HoT comes out, for lulz.

Maybe you should do the same when WvW ppl go to PVE to do map completion?

i WISH random zergs would just wander into pve maps for completion. just this giant blob of players wandering around each map killing off anything stupid enough to get in their way and harvesting every resource, like a horde of locusts. ot to mention seeing that many people do the same JP for a vista or skill point. that would be a sight to see.

I can only imagine the horror and chaos that would ensue for enemy mobs.

what i’d like to see is something similar to the kurzick/luxon type of GvG, where guilds can ‘own/sponsor’ certain (non-major) towns for unique benefits like banking, trading and crafting stations in places that lack it, free to guild members and available with a fee to non-members. Guilds can either out-bid one another or directly challenge a guild for the town to bypass gold cost. maybe even add unique benefits, like fireworks displays or follower Guild npc’s (henchmen) that can be hired until you leave the map or they die off. etc etc.

something like that.

What Legendaries Are You Hoping For?

Carlin Sanders.3587

i’d like to see serious legendary versions of ‘funny’ legendaries (quip and moot come to mind) though if they did that, i wouldn’t mind a couple more comic legends (hey, make a joke character – or a completely crazy off-his-rocker one sporting such legendaries.)

although i wouldn’t mind seeing something familiar like Magdaer as a legendary made available. (‘But that would interfere with the timeline and its right in the dungeon!’ have you been looking at the game at all recently? what with ruined lions arch existing in PS and post-claw island messup among others?)

I’d also like to see come GW1 skins return as legendaries or precursors. I always liked Draconic Aegis and would love to see it as a precursor or legendary. Also one of the necro ‘gauntlet’ focus skins as a precursor or legendary.

Revenant Starting Area [Possible Spoilers]

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Carlin Sanders.3587

Carlin Sanders.3587

as stated before, my one reason revenant will NOT get a specialized storyline:

look at the personal story post-claw island

contradictions, back and forth runarounds, npc’s ‘just meeting you again’ among other issues. no, revenants will not be treated specially. the PS right now is a shining example of how contradictions WILL exist.

for all of you looking for reasons for your revenant to exist before zhaitan, i use this reason: Your character has a number of ‘unknown abilities’ that allow them to talk with ‘mistwalkers’, legends who have passed long ago, and they in turn have taught you how to focus yourself well enough to fight – one of the most prominent mentors being Glint. Some have even allowed you access to their own powers and abilities – for a time. What you are, you don’t exactly know as everyone has never heard of powers like yours. the closest clue you have is the ‘ritualist’ title, as your powers function on a similar basis. And so your journey isn’t simply to stop the dragons, but also to discover yourself.

later on, long after your defeat of zhaitan, a familiar face returns from the mists to give you the answer you’ve been looking for.

hopefully this means we may get some dialogue from our characters that isn’t entirely text based with HoT story and, hopefully, living story beyond that. I’ve enjoyed making up a voice-over in my head (with additional personal dialogue) but an actual voice is nice all the same.

honestly the one thing that convinces me revenants will start the same way and play the same way as every other profession:

Look at the PS post claw island right now.

It’s not only mixed up, but skips ‘greatest fear’ and often contradicts itself. you talked to most of the others as you cleanse orr but next mission you’re now doing the temple of the forgotten god and Sayah has completely forgotten you or has short term memory loss. This among many other issues.

Will revenant be a similar ‘contradiction’? yes, yes i think it will be. yes i think they’ll go through the same PS as every other profession. it’s the easier path for them to take with this profession rather than ’here’s instant 80 but you get no PS. yet you’re the guy Rox and everyone else follows now.’

if they do implement this i think it will be more of a ‘you can use this here’ kind of mechanic rather than, say, anywhere. Same reason they don’t allow gliding on older maps: it would break certain areas.

Though a neat function for future LS instances would be allowing you ‘professional skills’ parts where, if you’re X profession, you can have an advantage. (each class being allowed roughly once of this in a single season to keep it fair.) like, say, you’re being chased into a tunnel and, as a necromancer, you can raise a bone wall as ‘a trick you learned from the struggle with Zhaitan.’ things like that.

Is it confirmed that crafting is max 500?

Legendary jewelry would be pointless, as Legendaries are only there for cosmetic effect as a trophy of achievement. Legendary stats aren’t better than Ascended, they just match it.
What would be the point of Legendary jewelry if you can’t see it and it only matches existing Ascended jewelry?

Last Halloween did have some experiments in jewels that change character appearance. Whether they ever use this concept for 500 jewelry-making is anyone’s guess, but the tech for special effects jewelry is available, at any rate.

i remember reading a while back on an interview that they plan to make legendary jewelry and armor – jewels adding smaller visual effects meant to compliment weapons and armor being obvious, very neat and flashy looking. Jewelry 500 might allow us to use the crystalline ore ascended material (which has not been released yet) and/or Xunlai Electrum Ingot (also not released) as ingredients for it.

As for food 500, we’d need some pretty spectacular and rare food ingrediants in order to possibly make a 500 recipe. (i think anet may be stretching its limits about now before they would have to delve into obscure food recipes) though i imagine its effects would be spectacular, like say some replicating current utility effects with another effect on top (say superior sharpening stone effect + 33% chance for might [5s] on crit) so that you can have double utilities.

Dueling, where is it?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Carlin Sanders.3587

Carlin Sanders.3587

Dueling has been asked for since the days of GW1, still hasn’t happened. And for good reason.

As this game is also fairly pvp oriented you will always have the buttheads who will want to show off who has the biggest sword (or compensating for a lack of one more rather) by challenging anyone and everyone to a duel, and will harass players who refuse or who lose.

By not adding in duels, they delete this kind of occasional headache and allow the GM’s to attend to more important matters than banning that someone who went too far.

i think this is actually a clue for FAR later (anet likes to do that sometimes) and here’s my reasoning why:

once there were 5 races – dwarves, seers, mursaat, jotun, and forgotten. there were 6 dragons – zhaitan, mordremoth, primordus, jormag, kralkatorrik, and (bubbles).

zhaitan was slain, leaving 5 dragons. if the floating glowy winged creatures in the HoT trailers ARE mursaat and are our new allies, perhaps this will be a trend? We go after kralkatorrik, we find forgotten. We go after Jormag, the jotun decide to join forces. Admittedly this is where i hit a snag, as dwarves are presumed extinct with the exception of ogden and seers are nowhere to be found. (perhaps two other races will be put in? who knows.)

but my point is this may be a little easter egg clue that the next dragon focus is on Kralkatorrik – an especially important goal for The Vigil as well as Destiny’s Edge.

Funny thing is, people aready think to know for 100% what kind of build they run with revenant, as they already have their exotic (partially even ascended) equipment ready.
Let me guess, people, it’s zerker gear?

My Revenant will probably be an Asuran Conditioner (like my necro).
Brain, Brawn, Heavy Armor, Mallyx = awesome

that’s why i haven’t made the ascended insignia yet.everything else is ready (laurels to purchase trinkets, vision crystals and deldrimor armor equipment, enough deldrimor steel to forge 4 two handed weapons, i even have bags and gizmo’s for him.) but it’s just waiting on how i decide revenant should best be played.

If anything it is currently tied to Berserker’s (pure damage), soldier’s (survival with mild damage – on top of best utilizing utility buffs) and celestial (since we can pretty much change functionality at a whim, might as well cover all bases)

You can’t reply the personal story on your existing character.

If you want to replay it and don’t want to level up manually your best bet is probably to use a level 20 scroll (from your characters birthday gift) and Tomes of Knowledge to level. Maybe the XP scrolls from dailies too if you do them.

If you go that route I recommend using the scroll, then doing the story and only using tomes as needed to unlock chapters, because you get XP from doing the story which will give you a couple of ‘free’ levels.

pretty much this. I wish you could replay PS though – particularly the air drop mission in Orr. (why do the priory have all the fun toys?)

Vision crystal – you can get one for logging in every 30 days or so with the new login benefits
Deldrimor steel – just run around maps and mine every ore node, or buy them.
Mithrilium – run around frostgorge or Orr, same as above. buy some, mine some. make it once a day.
Spiritwood – see above (replace ‘ore’ with ‘wood’)

best method: just do total map completion on some characters, preferebly non-80 characters to maximise your trips, and collect everything as you go. salvage anything blue or above with the appropriate kits (unless they’re better stats than what your non-80 has and can use) and once you hit a maximum count and/or new day is here and you have enough, switch to your crafter and make it real quick, then back to map completion.

It’s amazing how quickly you can make ascended this way. (on my third set of ascended gear, and i’m fairly casual about when i play.)

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

1 – no, no need for the boost.
2 – i doubt it, like 99% sure doubt. there’s a lost of immersion breaking in the game already, such as every other class doing PS with a ruined lions arch and being acknowledged as ‘commander’ from the getgo. i doubt they will make a special exemption for revenants.

i myself plan to make a ‘dummy’ revenant to get an idea of how to play it. delete and then make a ‘real’ revenant after i’ve built/acquired his ascended items, tomes, and other necessities. (the armor is built only after i have an idea of how i want him to run.)

Charr are far from spiritual as well, yet Rytlock is the first Revenant.

When I thought about it, I had the shamans from the flame legion in my mind.

Does this mean we can call Rytlock ‘Shaman Brimstone’ now?

anyway, i’d probably make mine a human – a descendant of the very character who met and/or fought those his descendant will be channeling. in a way ‘inheriting’ his ancestors legacy and experiences. with my hall of monuments and all the stuff he gets from there he already has a few skins he can use.

though it was also a close call between Norn and Asura.

kodan are the most likely, as their personal story could be written into the campaign against Jormag. They likely would be restricted from ‘story mode’ dungeons, but could play explorable mode to maintain lore.

I can also see tengu being written, but not in Tyria (continent), i imagine playable tengu as a member of a hidden pocket in Cantha and having a struggle against the emperor and, in order to get help, would work with the pact to defeat bubbles to secure their aid. (canthan campaign commander) [yes a stretch, but better than what we have]

I think it would be the other way around. Palawa would prob like to expand is dominion and has been playing with Kralky.

i’m sure he’d like to, but he had plenty of opportunity to do so since he took over elona. i imagine he just doesn’t care about the northern lands (he’s smart enough to know how large a territory he can control. stretch your land too far and you weaken your own power.)

oddly i can picture a giant army marching north and then kralky lands on top of them with the expression of ‘Oh hai didn’t see you there’ before stomping around and acting all dragon-y with lots of ‘rawr’ and ‘imma use mah lazah!’

Each Expansion = Dragon?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Carlin Sanders.3587

Carlin Sanders.3587

i imagine all of the smaller events mentioned above could also be tied in – e.g. while we’re in cantha chasing, who has been the only dragon in cantha and thus allowed to do as he pleased, we might also be forced to deal with the ministry of purity at one point very soon, as effectively 4/5th’s of the pact army are non-humans (not counting any other races that help.)

a similar situation likely exists for elona, as kralky is now sitting on Palawa’s doorstep and likely making his life very interesting. (could also be why kralky isn’t focused on ascalon and whatnot – he’s having fun playing with palawa)

Things missing from HoT

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Carlin Sanders.3587

Carlin Sanders.3587

This is not a complaint thread but here are some things I feel that are missing from the upcoming expansion and why I feel like it could have been something bigger.

-Cantha and/or Elona
-Unlocking critical areas of the map(Crystal Desert, Ring of Fire, etc)
-Guild capes(Seriously….)
-Guild vs Guild
-New dungeons
-Pet battles
-Underwater combat overhaul
-New additions to currently existing WvW maps.(New structures, new siege weapons, new objectives, new depth to current structures instead of just running up a stairs and kill an npc.)
-Open world dueling
-Mounts,flying mounts
-Raids(20-40 man)
-A new race(Kodan,Tengu,etc)
-Finally activating the Divinities Reach shooting range and other activities talked about during the pre launch PR hype(30+ activities/minigames promised by ArenaNet)

Not that I’m not happy about an expansion but I was kind of hoping they would focus less on all the Sylvari themed lore and take us to places like the Crystal Desert and take us back to the GW1 lore/areas.

*I imagine these will be later. creating an expanded map area is one thing – creating an entire new continent is another.
*Crystal desert will likely be unlocked as we get to killing Kralky, as for ring of fire who knows. it’s likely still erupting for all we know.
*I’d rather have capes that act correctly than capes that act more like scarfs (e.g. flapping everywhere like a panicked pigeon every time a charr gets on all fours). i imagine guild halls were just the easier of the two.
*already included in HoT
*we might get at least one dungeon with HoT, since the new area would be large enough. they might also use it for killing mordy. who knows?
*seriously? =_=" mini pet battles i can see – called polymock. but ranger pet battles? nah.
*this i can agree on but i doubt it will come until we focus on bubbles.
*they did announce new content for WvW, you might get your wish when they clarify
*this has been asked since GW1 – not happening at this point
*no, no and no. about the most would be airship-like WP transportation but that’s it. hang gliders are the closest ‘mounts’ we’ll get.
*already mentioned for open world content
*neither of those races are associated with Mordremoth. Once we face other dragons we might get these races.
*haven’t heard anything about these nor are they related to HoT. it’d be nice if they added it in last minute though.

What will happen to Sylvari PCs?

in Living World

Posted by: Carlin Sanders.3587

Carlin Sanders.3587

I imagine what would happen to Sylvari PC’s is that they would have a branching part in their story -EG: rather than investigate the problem they would be put on lockdown along with canach and Trehearne – but the result would ultimately be the same – from previous example: but during an attack by mordrem they break into where you three are in lockdown to try and assassinate or subvert you three. non-sylvari PC’s would be outside rushing in to defend Trehearne from mordrem instead. – and of course if they did this they might also have a bit of fun and have instances where you occassionally ‘turn’ and attack DE 2.0 or pact members but the pale tree intervenes and frees you for the moment.

this could also be a fun tool for other LS instances that may involve the other races, such as Jormag and Norn. (yes even women icebrood. there’s a piece of concept art floating around showing a female ‘son(daughter?) of svanir/icebrood’) could also be a nice tool to use for Kralkatorrik and the Branded.

(the inspiration for my charr mesmer is that she was experimented on by inquest and was ‘partially branded’, unlocking magical abilities that come from her sire[http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Vallus_Smokemane])

just my two cents.

don’t forget that at least one ‘town’ of Orr survived sinking – in the realm of torment.

I imagine most of the buildings collapsed when Orr sunk beneath the ocean, as the seismic force produced by an entire nation sinking beneath the ground would be equal to a magnitude 30 earthquake, literally turning buildings that had low or mediocre reinforcement to dust. even with magical reinforcement that’s still a fairly large number. (where did i get that number? well imagine if literally everything in a 60 mile radius of you suddenly dropped about 100 feet or more all at once. building weren’t designed to be dropped you know.)

Sohothin, Rytlock Brimstone's sword.

in Lore

Posted by: Carlin Sanders.3587

Carlin Sanders.3587

I think it likely a similar story to the Scepter of Orr, in that due to the magic it possessed the scepter/sword could transport itself away from danger into someplace safer. due to having spent a period of time in their respective regions and with Orr being underwater I believe the scepter and the sword both choose the Maguuma Jungle and Ascalon respectively.

it’s also not that far-fetched, as we have literally seen not only Magdaer effectively freeze an entire human nation in time through their souls but Sohothin also opens a portal and transports itself through, with Rytlock jumping in after it. The Scepter of Orr is seen perfectly safe and sound in the Maguuma by Lydia even though it was at the very heart of a volcano during its eruption when we last saw it before.

Artifacts from Orr are extremely powerful magical items, and such power can also have a semblance of sentience. perhaps Sohothin wanted Rytlock to find it rather than another human. Perhaps the Scepter felt Lydia to be the best candidate to wield it rather than a chosen hero who kept it safe before.

The Pact war machine and Tyrian technology

in Lore

Posted by: Carlin Sanders.3587

Carlin Sanders.3587

Have people forgotten one thing? The Durmand Priory.

The Durmand Priory basically works as a laboratory and engineering hive mind for the pact. Not only did they build a pilotable golem on steroids, giant lasers, sonic cannons and god knows what else but they also create various innovations for the standard army. The design for the airship was likely done by members of the priory (other races) working together, as well as likely most of the pact technology and weapons.

The pact works on a similar concept to the Charr three high legions: Blood Legion (Vigil), Ash Legion (Order of Whispers), and Iron Legion (Durmand Priory). The vigil supplies the manpower and militia to directly confront any threat or obstacle the pact faces, the order of whispers works to subvert, infiltrate, and perform reconaissance, while the priory works in the background on technology and weapons for the pact to utilize. They are still three separate orders but are far stronger united than divided.

and as for why they use lower class technology it would be due to cost efficiency. take the forts in the silverwastes for example versus the camp in frostgorge sound near the CoJ: the camp in frostgorge has been held for a long period of time, long enough for pact engineers to move in and establish better defenses for the camp. The forts in the silverwastes on the other hand are prone to not only extremely high amounts of damage but often are overrun by mordrem, a waste of money and materials to establish more expensive defenses like the pact cannons each time rather than simple trebuchets and mortars. trebuchets and mortars are also far more mobile than the floating defense turrets the main camp utilizes. all in all the pact has a very good budget, but it’s not a limitless budget.

lastly about the charr and their technology: the charr invention for a helicopter came too late for the battle of ebonhawke, as cease-fire talks began before its full invention. another reason is that ebonhawke was literally the last human settlement in ascalon with a MASSIVE wall to protect it, with a good dozen feet of stone between the outside and inside. even with an army of tanks it would take at the very least a few hours to even dent the wall and by then trebuchets and catapults would be raining hell on them, thus the wall eventually became a testing ground for iron legion inventions rather than an actual assault area.

and of course all of the other humans were across the shiverpeaks, which is now norn territory. plus they weren’t bothering ascalon much, so they could be written off.

I always found that i liked stories that have you as the hero being someone larger than life but also, at the end, no one is quite sure who you are. That’s why i like back reference – Revan, whose true identity is unknown, is revered as an almost godlike figure. The Nerevarine is considered to be among the most powerful mortals of his time but whose original name has faded into obscurity. it sets the mood that heroes can be anyone and anything – any background.

That’s perhaps why i both like and hate the guild wars storylines. others gain the credit for your action, but only a select few people know the truth. from them, your legend lives on as the stuff of myths. The group of heroes who escaped ascalon after the searing and become the chosen – who defeated the mursaat and the titans. Others have been known – cynn, mhenlo, devona – and yet you, one of the most capable of the group, has faded into obscurity by all but the heroes themselves. It makes me wonder sometimes if the hero intentionally made this happen – that they wanted this to happen so that perhaps they could return to a normal life. Perhaps it was because they wanted to remain unknown to their enemies in the far future. Maybe even that they simply did not want the limelight for doing what simply came to them naturally – that to them it was about as praise-worthy as taking out the trash. In the end, the people who matter know the truth. the hero could have been a god, a legend without compare, a mighty king or emperor, but in the end all they wanted was peace. In the end, all they wanted was to put all of that hero business behind them and go back to as normal a life as they can.

this is just all my two cents.

well one of my first charr characters is a warrior in the iron legion. who better to build weapons than someone who uses them on the field of battle? (as a point she makes all of her own weapons and armor.)

just as my mesmer is a member of the blood legion. She utilizes all forms of weaponry – as fitting blood legion – via sword, pistol, and staff. while other mesmers are roses, she’s only thorns.

And my third example is an engineer in the ash legion. Sort of a james bond like character for the legion with his gadgets.
