I like playing guys but also girls. plus playing as a girl lets me stare at her butt the entire time – not quite as enjoyable when playing my guy toons.

Other players who try and hit on you then rag on you for playing a girl:
A) – honestly should have expected this since they play an MMO, and should have gotten to know who is behind the toon first

and B ) – seriously need a girlfriend, but first a self image check.

We already have Gliders, no need for a mount that flies. If you want to ride an animal in the sky that badly i’m sure Anet can come up with a griffon mount skin or something for gliders – they’ve already shown they can manipulate the players actions during glide – so you can ride your griffons and eagles and cows and stuff.

I played a ton of GW1, but the argument that Abaddon can’t come back if the writers want it strikes me as weak. All plot twists are possible, and he would have survived as a powerless shadow of himself.

technically, anything is possible with enough writing and setup, including the fact that this was all a dream your character had, or it’s actually purgatory because you died during your first mission.

honestly i’m a fairly big fanboy of abaddon being included myself (my main from GW1 – an elementalist – coming from a family of abaddon archivists and using some of his secrets to stay alive all these years) but i’d rather we ‘discover’ things about abaddon rather than actually have him come back. (maybe he knew about the dragons and made some preparations and the gods didn’t want to upset their mortal flock so they had to silence him, etc.)

for people who actively hunt equipment to throw in i can see this being a problem. My problem may be that i just salvage exotics i get unless they sell for a decent amount regardless, so to me having to identify is pretty much pointless and just saves me inventory space when i mass salvage. not quite sure why people freak out over ID’ing gear. we’ll likely get ID kits at some point soon anyway, similar to how we got salvage-o-matics and such.

personally with how auto-loot works it’ll save a lot of space in my inventory and also eliminate that ungodly amount of minor runes/sigils when salvaging a bunch of equipment all at once.

people cry about mounts being in the game, people cried about gliding ruining everything, now people cry about unidentified equipment.

Not sure if genuinely concerned or just cynically lashing out.

I think the boat actually suggests something different.

if next xpac is rumored to head where we think it’s going, and Orr is on the edge of Elona, we may actually be dealing with pirates in this area – corsairs specifically. The same boat was used in artwork for both (old) lions arch as well as bloodtide coast, and both had pirates as a common element.

Plus it would make sense that if pirates heard Zhaitan was dead and the risen are being culled back by the pact then Orr would be an ideal place to plunder for lost treasure or rare artifacts. The waters near and above orr were used by pirates before zhaitans rise, after all, so who knows what one could find now.

GW1 Player Character Vs. GW2 Player Character

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Carlin Sanders.3587

Carlin Sanders.3587

I thought about this a lot myself, and i would say they may be equal in terms of comparison – that it’s simply due to the fact one is stronger and the other is more adaptable\versatile.

back in guild wars 1 magic was still much lower than it is in gw2. Moreover magic was also a lot more strict, which is one of the reasons warriors had far more skills based on technique and skills than any actual ‘magical’ abilities, such as shooting fire from their swords. as such the player character of GW1 had to learn new ways of using their magic to compensate for the lack of raw ‘power’ that is prevalent later in the world. As such they know how to extend their magic and skills in many more ways than our GW2 characters. Moreover due to this they could actually do things GW2 characters cannot, such as stand against a god. had kasmeer possessed a GW1 mesmers repertoire of skills she may have been able to easily save marjory during the assault on scartlet’s airship. this is what allowed our GW1 characters to remain reasonably weak when, say, facing an army but still able to kill off gods. Their number of abilities made them excellent duelists when it comes to 1 on 1 scenarios. (one example is how an elementalist who has traveled all over tyria could wield all four elemental attributes and more at once.) Another example of this was their versatility in being able to learn skills and abilities from another profession without negative effects – a warrior could, with diligent effort, learn the healing skills of a monk or an elementalist could learn energy manipulating spells that mesmers did.

I believe the rising of the dragons is what changed magic and its function in tyria, allowing spells to be far more powerful and thus more volatile and require more concentration to keep under control. On top of how magics of different professions can clash badly with one another – one example being the elder dragons and their polarity to one another – likely resulted in the ‘dual profession’ practice dying out. Elite specializations try to compensate by allowing a profession to replicate the effects of another through their own magical mediums. This makes those who are experts\masters of their professions extremely powerful, easily gaining an edge over many ‘normal’ inhabitants which is how our character is able to do so much – they have their professions techniques and abilities practically coded into subconscious memory at this point.

all in all if our gw1 character came to GW2 they might blow themselves up due to being unused to how powerful magic has become, and in turn our GW2 character brought into the past would be significantly weaker and far less versatile than our GW1 characters. all in all it comes down to power vs technique really.

but that’s just my interpretation.

Profession themed legendary armor?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Carlin Sanders.3587

I know it didn’t take overnight or a weekend. however, i imagine why it might have taken so long was due to the fact they were also developing the capability and technology for it. since they’ve finished at least 3 sets now i imagine it will go a lot smoother than when they first started – enough that they can make such armors for the expansion after this next one, or even a little before. i’m not expecting it to be done quickly or even by the end of next year.

besides, no one answered the question. if it were up to you, how would you make legendary armor aesthetically?

(Edit: And i really don’t consider DW new looks to be ‘profession armor’ as it’s tailored to each member specifically. Not every guardian runs around in wolfblood outfits.)

Profession themed legendary armor?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Carlin Sanders.3587

Carlin Sanders.3587

A lot of people didn’t like how the legendary armor actually looks – trenchcoats among them – so I thought to myself ‘why not make a set of armor based on your profession?’

-The skins themselves could be an added collection unlocked after you complete a full set of legendary armor of a particular type (EG heavy, medium or light) which would require delving into what made you truly a master of your profession

I even thought of a skin type that might work.

Engineer legendary armor:

Out of combat: Outside of combat the armor looks more like a sci-fi spandex jumpsuit with small humble plates of electronic armor covering the basic areas of ones body, sans the head which would have a neat set of Deus Ex style sunglasses or a scouter type headwear

In combat: in a flash of smoke, electricity and holographic projection the engineers body is now covered in a sci-fi style Power Armor, evoking images of Master Chief, Samus Aran or even Iron Man including a visor with an effect of glowing in the dark and having a tiny animated hud visible or a target reticule, with small (dyeable) lights softly pulsing on the engineers armor throughout. (I imagine the GW2 development team could really go nuts and have fun with this now that they have the basic concept down.) Once combat was finished another flash of charged plasma and the engineer is once more in less menacing choice of wear.

With the armor i had the idea of the engineer advancing their skills to the point that they have exceeded the current limitations of technology – even by asuran standards – and applied their craft to creating a truly unique set of armor that shows their technological genius. The armor can even work well if separated into chunks as it would likely look like how Tony Stark sometimes has just part of his suit on.

This is, of course, just an idea I had. Do you have an idea of where to go with legendary armors? How would you design a legendary armor? Would you go with professions, elite specializations, something truly different?

What happened?

What you are experiencing is something afflicting not just guild wars but the gaming community as a whole.

people who play MMO’s right now want all the very best new features that work together seamlessly and allows them to do practically anything they wanted in an exciting and dynamic world. – in short, people are looking for the new WoW and they won’t settle for an inch less. The problem is that games actually being able to match WoW are few and far between. Moreover the ‘free-to-play DLC’ Cash Cow became such a profitable venture that nearly every online MMO has it in one form or another, with many gating all of their best items services and other desirables behind these cash gates. With the economy being the way that it is the majority of players actually go to these games to spend as little as possible, yet most inevitably fall prey to this sooner or later. This leaves MMO Players rather bitter, leading them away from the MMO playground and back into consoles.
On top of this, GW2 players have recently been getting sick and tired of repeated sales tactics that do nothing for people who don’t want to pay any more than they have to for the game – mainly the gem store and all the items therein. the bait and switch of HoT and overhype it generated didn’t help much either, as did living story. things are starting to improve but this has left a lot of players so full of salt for this game and Anet that the dead sea is jealous, so it will be a long time before this game can come close to how it was when it first launched – if Anet doesn’t screw up again.

It’s also that the gaming community has had so much experience in game play styles and that game developers are practically repeating themselves at this point that gamers are setting the bar of ‘great’ higher and higher with more details of what they want in a game just to get that ‘new’ and ‘innovative’ feel again – in short, they are trying to tell developers what they’re looking for and developers at this point are just out to make cash.
This has led to the rise of indie game developers taking the scene and leading more and more players away from major developers, as indie gamers often ‘experiment’ with new ideas and innovations – with several being huge successes, such as Undertale and FNAF. (Despite how games like these are usually plagued by a majority of toxic overzealous die-hard fans that pretty much ruin it for everyone else – normal fans included.)

TL;DR – Everyone’s just become very salty for different reasons, it’s not you.

The logical staff (blows my mind)

You’re forgetting the Druids main functionality – celestial avatar – changes the way glyphs work to become party support skills, such as how Glyph of Rejuvenation makes healing your party a bigger emphasis than healing yourself. The Druid was built in two parts for both party support as well as providing heal support. moreover, by the time you play druid you always have the option of becoming melee which – if you go full glyph – means you won’t be too much of a burden if you join your melee fighters. Ancestral grace allows you to either zip back to the backlines for healing and support or zips you forward to join your knuckle-dragging, magic-spewing comrades on the front lines.

Revenant on the other hand needed a close-range two handed weapon and since the hammer was flipped upside down for being a long range weapon the staff felt like with ventari using a staff, this made the staff weapon an ideal candidate. (Plus, we already had a lot of professions wielding greatswords including the new Reaper spec, so greatsword was out for now) While Ventari’s tablet was built to be similarly a party support object as well as a summonable object for the class no matter where you stood on the field. (I personally found the tablet better at shielding NPC’s in the open field rather than fellow players – since players tend to move around a lot – but, eh…)

and that’s your two cents for today.

[Suggestions] Future Elite Specializations

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Carlin Sanders.3587

For the Revenant >

Vizier Khilbron

Weapon: Scepter (Scepter of Orr, duh) or a Focus (Lost Scrolls, duh)

Legendary Lich Stance gives you access to the Eye of Janthir which allows you to see and target stealthy enemies (e.g., Nuhoch Stealth Detection). Life steal and condition duration is increased.

Trait(s): Hunger of the Lich [10 cooldown]
Your attacks steal 1 enchantment; steal 1000 health; gain 10 energy.

Heal: Life Vortex
Heal for XXXX. Steal 1 enchantment then steal 2000 health from target foe.

Elite: Soul Vortex [10 cost/.25 cast/10 recharge]
Shadowstep your target to your location and steal 4000 health. If successful, target is immobilized for 3 seconds. This skill is unblockable. Range 1500.

Don’t get caught up in the numbers. It is just a generalization that helps spark ideas for the devs.

Rodgort would be nice too and obviously the weapon is a torch and lots of burning.

I could see Vizier Khilbron working as a revenant spirit (Legendary Lich) but not as much emphasis on life steal, as Vizier Khilbron was also known to raise and control mass amounts of undead – something the Revenant can certainly benefit from as their only summon is in the form of Ventari’s Tablet. Obviously to be fair to necromancers they won’t have the multiple permanents minions necromancers can, but rather short lived minions focused on inflicting conditions or even as a heal skill for allies – sacrificing a minion you summon to heal yourself and allies near them while inflicting poison or something to enemies near it.

On another note perhaps for those professions who will quickly run out of ‘feasible’ weapons to wield (warrior) or those who need certain weapon skills improved (shield for guardian anyone?) Perhaps some elite specs can instead ‘empower’ certain weapon skills to make them better or give them a different functionality if they can be so versatile.

yes, I could see Caudecus trying to convince any Mursaat over there that Lazarus betrayed them and that this is their chance to retake kryta. It would make for a more believable and tangible reason for Lazarus working with The Commander. (Lazarus is strong but it’s doubtful he can take on multiple Mursaat and Jade Constructs at once. The commander can call upon pretty much any of the races for help – with Kryta being interested in not being under winged gold armored bird-footed alien suppression again.)

- permanent sex change contract as far as i know there isnt one in the game why ? there is every other kind of permanent thing.

- my third idea is more of a service then an item basically allow us to upload out own music that would be used as the default music in guild halls you could charge lets say 2k gems gor 500 mb space on your server you make money we get some cool songs

remember that – for anyone who picked getting the shadowstone in the other current event might run into dialogue wise – that a bloodstone only contains a fraction of what a dragon can consume. We’ve seen what a bloodstones magic is capable of in bloodstone fen when released all at once. one can only imagine how much magic the death of a dragon would create, and we killed two thus far. This flood of magic may be responsible for making local space-time unstable and thus we have the rifts.

what they can also do is make maps a choice when you unlock a certain achievement. Say, they put in a new achievement for completing the story and beating Zhaitan. So long as that achievement is unlocked, one can choose to go to ‘old’ Orr or go to ‘new’ Orr when they use a zone portal/waypoint into one of those 3 zones. with the old Orr, it’s basically the maps we know now. with the new one instead it’s with little risen but perhaps the Pact is now dealing with corsairs/pirates raiding Orr for treasure, greater inquest movement as well as possible delegations from the various race nations wanting to ‘claim’ a piece for themselves.

it only requires half the resources to do this too, as one would just adjust some of the flora and fauna to reflect ‘new plant growth’ and get rid of the corruption. The map is already built. With how much detail each of the new LS episodes are getting this can be done as a sort of ‘side project.’

TLDR: S will be Steve for me until someone with reasonable authority give me a good reason why it should be named any other way.

In this case it’s likely due to either the dragons themselves or their minions saying the names.
