Since the number one thing our characters are going to be doing in their lifetimes is hunt the elder dragons down and kill them, I think this name is fairly appropriate. I like the way it sounds and I like the focus on the greatest threat to Tyria of our time.

I just got kicked out, too. lol I got to make my Rev, though, and fight at Amber Sandfall in an instance. Then the wall to the left of the fort opened up, but I got kicked before I could see much.

It was cool to make my char, though, and fight with the Rev for a few minutes.

You can’t switch your character’s class; you’d have to make a new one of the class you want. If you want levels without going out and getting them in the usual way, you can amass Tomes of Knowledge and just click your way to level 80.

Crafting materials sell well on the Trading Post. So, don’t just vendor anything that says it can be used for a craft (weaponsmith, chef, etc.). A lot of sigils and runes are really not worth much. Check the TP for the ones you have.

For gear, I have my 80 guardian set up completely in Berserker stat gear (power, precision, ferocity) for both weapons and armor. She kills and survives well in this gear no matter where she is. Exotic level gear is plenty good for 80s unless you want to do high-level fractals.

Ascended gear (armor and weapons) is only very slightly better and must be crafted or gotten from fractals (type of dungeon) and champion bags from bosses. I don’t know of any other way to get ascended, although ascended jewelry items can be purchased with laurels as well.

Yeah, the map completions are per character. If you don’t want to level a character through questing, you can try leveling out in WvW. That can be quick and a lot of fun with a group. Though there’s no real tanking, dungeons are still fun and are profitable.

I guess I’d suggest having a goal or something. Like working towards getting a legendary weapon or ascended gear. PvP has reward tracks now that give you a lot of nice things like leveling tomes that you can read and instantly get a level for your character.

Kessex Hills could be cleaned up and restored without being a problem for the story, same as LA is going to be cleaned up and restored. Also, Fort Salma and Fort Concordia would also realistically at some time be cleaned up and repaired.

Celtic Lady.3729

I have a lot of complaints when it comes to GW2, but leveling isn’t one of them. Honestly, leveling here is so fast and easy compared to other games and there’s so many ways to do it – WvW, map completions, dynamic events, crafting, etc. Then there are Tomes of Knowledge if all else fails. I don’t play any other games where I can just click a scroll all the way to the cap.

You want to know pain? Try leveling a character to 100 in LOTRO. Hurts so bad.

So, all we have to do is make a new account – we’ll get tons of precursors because Arenanet is only giving good, expensive loot in large quantities to new accounts. So…the stories in this thread about how old accounts don’t get good rewards but new accounts do seems kind of depressing. I mean, if the discrepancy is so glaring, why would anyone keep playing their old accounts, knowing all they have to do is make a new one and they’d be rolling in excellent drops and gold?

By playing an old account, aren’t you gimping yourself for the entire life of the game when you could be getting so much more?

I’m really not into “hard, challenging gameplay.” GW2 already has a lot of challenge in it, anyway. For instance, many of the LS2 achievements were plenty challenging, and there’s a lot of challenging jumping puzzles. I’m hoping the new HoT content has some PvE and achievements that are fun and relaxing as opposed to really challenging.

Celtic Lady.3729

What exactly is it about the HoT expansion that you think will improve the game’s culture? Or make it less repetitive? I’m not sure I’m following.

the expansion will also greatly focus on the pvp aspects of the game, allowing a player like myself to branch off the repetitive cycle and possibly add some of my own flavor into my overall experience. you understand? as in, if i want to focus on pvp, i will do so in my own way, with enough variation to take my path my own way. there is no way for me to create my own path in this game.

Well, okay, but HoT is only adding 1 new sPvP map and 1 new WvW map. We have more variety than that right now in those areas. I’m looking forward to these new maps, too, but I don’t see that they’re overall going to really change the face of sPvP or WvW.

To answer all the "why GW2 feel grindy"

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Celtic Lady.3729

Usually when GW2 feels grindy to me, it’s because I get frustrated sometimes at how slowly gold trickles in for me. On other games I play, I make money very easily. GW2 was culture shock for me in this regard. I’ve been told the absolute fastest ways to make money are 1. Buy low/sell high on the TP and 2. Dungeon running. People tell me that if I run every single dungeon path every day and get the daily for it, I’ll have tons of money.

But I really can’t stomach that. I do dungeons once in a while, not every day. And not all the available paths. That would be too much of a time commitment for me. I wish there was a way to make the same amount of money as I would dungeon running doing something that I actually enjoy. But the things I enjoy don’t really pay out well. In the end, I just had to be okay with the fact that this problem isn’t going to be solved and not worry about getting much money.

> Why is everything time gated?

?_?

Does anybody care to make a list of GW2 features that are time-gated… versus those that are not?

I guess we’d have to define" time-gating." If we’re talking about things like recipes that can only be made once a day but you need more than one to craft certain items, then I don’t think there are many recipes in the game like that.

If by “time-gating” you mean something takes time to acquire, then yeah, most things in the game are time-gated since many items like legendaries, ascended gear, dungeon sets, PvP/WvW ranks and achievements, even a lot of mins and skins, etc. will take time to acquire.

the portal for beta

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Celtic Lady.3729

Celtic Lady.3729

the problem here is that this is a completely unfair way to reward players, in the edn only the most dedicated (what i often call addicted) players can have even a small shot on getting a portal stone.

Except that RNG doesn’t work that way. There’s no guarantee that a super dedicated person playing 12 hours a day for a week will get the portal. For others, killing mobs for half an hour nets them their reward. I wouldn’t call 30 minutes much of a dedication or an addiction. Yeah, the overall drop rate is low, but time spent doesn’t necessarily mean reward. If it did, then everyone putting in a certain amount of time would mostly be getting their portals, but that’s not happening.

Celtic Lady.3729

It’s high time that something be brought to the attention of the Puppet Masters playing this game. Though I admit to a certain amount of bitterness in this regard, I still cannot keep silent at the injustice of it all.

You see, I USED to be the Puppet Master’s favorite. Her beloved MAIN. Then she made a (yes, you got it) a WARRIOR. This warrior, this usurper, stole my place in the Puppet Master’s heart. Suddenly, instead of adventuring all over Tyria, slaying dragons, collecting materials, and more or less saving the entire known (alright, fine, the REACHABLE) world, I was cooling my (Masterwork only) heels in Divinity’s Reach.

SHE was suddenly going everywhere, doing everything. SHE got to sun herself in Southsun Cove, (all the while flirting outrageously with Lord Faren, I might add. Disgusting.) bungee jumping in Dry Top, and collecting Mordrem guts in Silverwastes. (Okay, so I’m not really jealous about the gut-collecting, but still.) It’s the principle of the thing. I didn’t get to see ANY of it except for the tiny, little first part of Dry Top because the Puppet Master’s boyfriend needed help out there, and she wanted to get rewards for something she’d already done with HER.

Guess who’s NOT wearing shiny Ascended amulets, rings, and earrings! Guess who IS wearing all the finest in Damask and Deldrimor! And don’t even get me STARTED on makeovers! I haven’t had my hair redone since sob LAUNCH! Can you believe that? How is that even remotely fair? SHE has had HER hair done 4 or 5 times already. Plus, she got a facial!

While I occasionally am let out of town whenever the daily HAPPENS to be something the Puppet Master can easily get in Queensdale or other nearby locations, I don’t get to carry around those fancy Mad Scientist tools when I do. Oh, no. I’m still slaving away with a combination of boring orichalcum ones and those ridiculous frostbitten tools that blow freezing cold snow into my face every time I use them. When I complain about this obviously unfair discomfort, the Puppet Master just smiles and says she really needs to use these frostbitten tools up because she wants more room in the bank for “more important” items. Guess who’s going to get a SECOND legendary!

As you can see by now, my fellow alts, this willful violation of my Kormir-given rights has got to be addressed. If this keeps up, I can kiss hangliding and mushroom-hopping in the jungle good-bye. (And let’s face it, as an engineer, I am the BEST one to go to the jungle and meet all those new poison-producing frog people).

Another thing. I’m not a Sylvari, (I’m a ravishing red-headed human) and even though the Puppet Master’s Sylvari is an alt, too, SHE’S been getting an awful lot of attention lately. The Puppet Master is acting like that sorry excuse for a salad is going to go see the jungle BEFORE me.

The situation is intolerable. I know I am not alone in this forced disrespect, this unfair ignoring of my full potential. How can I be expected to be all that I was created to be if the Puppet Master won’t even spend so much as a transmutation charge on me?

I say it’s time to stop standing in the character log-in screen, moving our heads from side to side, and looking like we can take on the world but never get to do more than the occasional daily or craft yet another piece of Elonian leather before being tossed back out again.

I say we, the Alts, unite! Tell me your stories of shame and pain! Take back your dignity! Together we will wrest our legendaries, ascended armor, makeovers, and right to explore the world from those snooty, spoiled Mains!

WHO’S WITH ME?
