You’d think an engineer would have invented these items by now.

There was a huge freak-out when ascended gear was introduced. People were predicting that so many players would leave the game it would die. But it didn’t. I assume this too shall pass and the game will go on.

It was changed the day the ad went up in the store, I believe. Sorry, but they knew well before the actual day they started selling that they were going to include the base game for free.

Wonder what we’ll get in return for our dragonite?

I don’t understand. Why do necros need nerfing? They have never been OP, right?

Trahearne becoming corrupted and us getting to kill him would be a very interesting plot twist.

I’m guessing that guilds can’t take over other guilds’ halls? I mean, that would be some interesting GvG action if it were possible.

I like map completions. I’m on my 9th 100% world complete.

I don’t see how they can change it now after so many people have purchased the packages as they are. All those people would have to be compensated somehow.

It’s not the same thing. Legendary stats can be swapped in a second out of combat for free. Ascended stats will be pricey to swap and require the MF. Legendary stat swapping is still superior.

No, I don’t think this will kill the game. Despite all the upset, the opinions we’ve seen don’t constitute the majority of players. It’s possible that the majority are fine with it. Many that don’t like the price will wait till HoT goes on sale in the future and pick it up then. Also, the pricing deal for new players is really good and some of those that leave will be replaced by others.

Do I think their handling of this has lost them money and customers? You betcha.
Do I think it’s enough to kill the game? No, I don’t.

They purchased it because that is what it appeared they were being told needed to happen. They shouldn’t lose their progression, gem purchases, names, and whatever else they have acquired based solely on the fact that Anet is pretty bad at communicating.

Totally agree with this. I just don’t understand the logic of forcing well-deserved refunded accounts to completely start over.

Challenging group content could just as easily refer to guild hall acquiring and new DEs in HoT maps. Since these items are the ones revealed, that’s exactly what I expect challenging group content to mean, not dungeons, fractals, or raids.

Since they view it as a pre-purchase bonus for new players, they don’t consider it content that existing players are paying for or needing. They view it as you paying $50 for HoT alone.

There are way better reasons to play this game than AP score.

The problem with analogies is they rarely match the situation they’re describing. Most of them are comparing apples to oranges rather than apples to apples, thus nullifying their effectiveness.

I really would never join a guild that required 100% rep. It’s just too limiting. Some guilds like to see themselves as one-stop shops, but in reality, very few guilds can do everything well enough to justify it.

The vanilla game is only free if you don’t already have it and you purchase HoT.

lol Unfortunately, the actual majority is silent. We don’t know which way they’re leaning. They might be planning to buy HoT or they might be thinking that the price is too high for the content. Only time will tell which it is.

They could have saved themselves so much trouble just by keeping the 2 purchases separately. They could have just as easily dropped the base game’s price to $10 in order make it easier for new players and left the expac price at $50 or $40 for everyone.

I thought this was a basically good, fair review. I enjoyed it. My main problem all along has been the whole FAQs thing where players were definitely led to believe they needed to buy the base game separately and then finding out they didn’t, so it was essentially a waste of their money.

They feel shafted because the wording of the original FAQs page indicated the base game and HoT would be 2 separate purchases and it isn’t. It’s a one-time purchase for both games that the vast majority would have waited to buy together if they’d had any indication of that possibility at all.

Realistically, they’ve known this for weeks in order to design and execute the ad. Could they have known about this all along? Sure. Could they have changed the plan at some time? Yeah. We don’t know.

But they definitely knew about this before the actual changes were made.

Don’t know how many zones exactly, but I don’t believe there’s all this unknown content coming that hasn’t been mentioned.

I believe that they’ve already revealed what HoT is going to have. There are not vast items they’re adding that they haven’t already mentioned or shown.

Since they already said that they’ve revealed the main items in HoT, I doubt there’s any mysterious raids coming. Challenging group content most likely refers to the guild hall obtaining and the new DEs in the HoT maps.

We’ve basically seen already what the expansion is.

The wording on their FAQs sheet heavily indicated that the base game and HoT would be completely separate. No one had any reason to believe it would be otherwise.
